Coming up at 735, we've got five burning questions regarding the Bears as the Bears get ready to take on. The Jacksonville Jaguars coverage all day on Sunday right here. On the home of the Bears, ESPN 1000 is the Bears play in London against the Jags. But, Cap, last night, we got to talk about something personal. You know it was personal. Even though our Cubs and Sox are not involved in the postseason, there's nothing like October baseball. It's a long slog of 162 games plus the spring training games. But, man, when the bell rings in October, it's just a whole different level of sport when you're watching baseball and we watched it last night. The Mets ended the San Diego Padres getting it done. I love baseball. It's my favorite sport. Look, it's a great time of year. The NFL is king. I would never tell you that it isn't. Watching that game last night in San Diego was simply spectacular. Mookie Betts gets the early home run. Then here come the pods. It's six to one. And I said to my wife, my guy hoodie is going to be over the moon because he is a Padres guy while his socks are in the throes of a massive rebuild. That's right. And then I watched Tatisse Jr. go deep. And the yellow towels, I'm sure that's the radio station not in San Diego. Yeah, the fan. Super, super cool. Whatever it costs, that was a great piece of marketing. And I hope there's a point in time where whether it's the Bears clinching a division or the White Sox clinching a division and getting to the postseason and you see ESPN 1000 towels. Everybody's waving orange towels at the Bears game or black towels at the White Sox game. Dude, let me just tell you something. And then Tae Oscar Hernandez goes, "Hey, on a second." Yeah. Grant Slam, six to five. Mm-hmm. And it was spectacular theater. Spectacular. And I couldn't stop thinking about where James Shields might be. Exactly. White Sox traded a 16 year old Fernando Tatisse Jr. Yeah. To San Diego because they had to have James Shields. Yeah. We're trying to win now, kid. We're going to take the veteran arm. He wasn't very good. They paid a bunch of money. But more importantly, they gave up a 20-some year old kid now. He's 20-some. Mm-hmm. And he's a beast. He's an all-star. And I watched it. So these playoffs, I said to you when I walked in, these playoffs have been other than our heart being involved. White Sox 0-5. Cubs for me, 16. These have been the best playoffs I've seen in a long, long time. I mean, amazing. A lot of that cap stems from parody. I like parody in sports, you know, until we get to the NCAA, you know, as far as the NCAA tournament or the college football playoff. Like, I know a little TCU that you're not going to be able to beat a number one, a number two team. You're in the mix, but you're not good enough to be on top. Here's the thing about baseball. I think the reason why that you enjoyed, and I enjoyed so much is because we have a bunch of series that are tied at one. So there's parody there. First time ever. Yes. All four were tied one to one. It's never happened. I think that says a lot for the sport, too, that there is that one favorite. Maybe there's a gambling favorite that I did not see coming into the playoffs. But the point is, though, is that it seems like a lot of this is even. A lot of it is even. You know, for my Padres, my Padres, as I come in, strident. I told my wife that. She's like, "I thought he was a Sox fan." I was proud. He's angry with the Sox. So he adopted the Padres when they got Dylan Seast this spring. She's like, "Wow. Good for him. Nice pick." Exactly right. Because as we well know, Cap, you want to watch baseball, and there's got to be a must-see. Like, "Uh-oh. Let's see this tattoo set bad here. I'm not going to move. Let's go see." Because you want to see what happens, right? We know this is Cubs and White Sox fans. There's always one or two guys in line. I'm like, "All right. Let's just see what happens here. Before I order the next beer or that hot dog, let's take a look and see what happens." And they're bad. Tati's is that guy. Machado's that guy. Bogards is that guy. You have four or five of those in the line. And the same thing on the Dodger side too. Those Dodgers and their thug fans. You saw what happened at Dodger Stadium. Pro-Farge's mining his own business out in the outfield and they're throwing baseballs at him. Dodger fans. That was the last game. Yeah. And then security had to come out there. Those Dodger fans. My God. Have you ever been to a game there? Dodger Stadium, no. I have. I was there in '08 to broadcast. Yeah. Because the Cubs played the Dodgers. All right. Said to my wife, "Hey, I'm going to buy you a plane ticket. I'm going to buy you tickets." Well, the only tickets we could get, we were in the upper deck. So I do the pre-game show, come meet her and our friends up there, "Dude, I was fearing for my life. I had a Cubs jacket on and it was brutal." My wife said, "Never again. Never again." This thought, "I don't really care out there in LA. It's laid back." Dude, it was horrific experience. I would not go back to a game there unless I was way down low. Did Rick Monday save you? Yeah. Rick Monday came in and scooped Mindy and I out. Like the American flag. Like he did. Like the American flag that was burning. Correct. For the young audience, there was some idiot burning a flag out on the field. Remember, he ran into the outfield, laid a flag out, tried to set it on fire. Here came the Dodger center field. To me, the Cubs center fielder. Wasn't he a club at the time? Yes. Yeah. Rick Monday, he came running in. He grabbed the flag. The place went crazy and the Dodgers went, "We got to have him." And they traded for him and he ended up his whole career. He was a broadcast right there. Still there. Doin' color. Get your gut done. He's still alive and still going. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Great guy. I was just so happy, man, because, you know, big time hits. Great drama and then-- My career's a strike away from taking control of this series. The payoff hits. Game, Patrick's taking game three. And take command in this best of five, leading a two-game storm. Dodger broadcast to Joe. What's his name, Cap? The young broadcast for Fox? Joe Davis. Joe Davis having to tighten this finger as a Dodger broadcast, you're doing the national broadcast. That is correct. That is correct. One strike away from taking control of this series. It was awesome. And look, we'll get back into football. The Bears landed in London. They had all day off yesterday. So good. Today's only-- Excuse me. A walk-through. Oh, God. But then tomorrow they'll go back. There's six hours later there. So it is, well, one o'clock in the afternoon, so they're probably on a practice field right now. We'll get an update shortly. What about the Met? The Met? The Met beat the Philly. How about that? Seven, two. Beat the crap out of them. How about that? They pounded him. And of course, our guy, Shay Norling, is not here. He's going to be out. I think it's super, super cool. And I said to Shay, you need to take pictures. My dad's gone. He died in 2000. My mom loved sports and loved baseball. She would go to the games with either me. She went with my brother. My wife and her would go to the playoff games, the Cubs. And my mom is gone. She died in 2020. Let me tell you something. I said to Shay, dude, that's why you get vacation days. Go to Detroit. He's from Detroit. His dad is the biggest Tiger fan. And his dad said, can you come up here? I'll get tickets. They got tickets. They're going to be at Comerica Park, watching the Tigers and the Guardians. And I just think it's spectacular. And that's where you take a picture. You don't know what tomorrow has for any of us. Good or bad. Very good. But to have that moment with your father who raised you as a sports fan and how you work in this industry and you can go back and be a fan and a little boy with your dad, that to me is as cool as it gets. Dad, sit your ass down and let's watch the Tigers lose. Son, we're here to watch the Tigers. They're not very good. No school will know victory. But son, this is our moment. I hate this. We're together. I don't like this. Why did a day game? Why in the hell is it a day game? And why is it on True TV? Yes. Son, we're at the game. We won't be watching. Well, I just think it's ridiculous if it's going to be on HBO Max. Why would it be on HBO Max, Dad? Son, we got tickets. It doesn't matter. Words. Doesn't matter. I think this sucks. Okay. I've got the Guardians on the money line won't be able to enjoy it, Cap. You say that it's super cool, but you know he can't be comfortable in enjoying it. You understand that, right? Because there's always some negative angle that he'll take to sour the moment. I hope he doesn't. What do you mean? Do you not know who he is, Cap? I do. But I had a long talk with him. I did. Oh, did you? Oh, okay. I'm sure that resonated from one ear throughout the other. Damn. It's a Che. Take it from a guy who doesn't have his parents anymore. You've got this momentous opportunity. You're going to be in the stadium with your dad. Yeah, but the traffic starts to try to get in here. That's the problem. You know how much it was for a beer, Cap? You almost said it was 10 bucks for a beer. Who paid for it? My dad did, of course. Of course, my dad paid for it. Then don't sweat it. But still too expensive. Remember when hot dogs were 50 cents and a beer was a dollar? You don't remember that. What do you complain about? 29. What do you? So, Cap, even though what you just laid out is beautiful, you think that guy can be able to enjoy? Probably not. Probably not. I had a guardian's Mets parlay and now it's broke. But your tigers are winning. Doesn't matter. Oh, the traffic stuff will blow it in the end. We'll find a way to lose. We 191. Whoa, they're lucky. That's what he'll say. That's a thing. So no, my analytics told me that wasn't going to go that way. Stick your analytics. Just enjoy the moment, man. I kind of like them both ways. Exactly. That's the whole thing. By the way, back to what we talked about for a second, I looked it up. Rick Monday, he was in the cup uniform. Yeah. It was 1976. The two jackaloons are on the field. How they got in the middle of the outfield, the no security, they're in the middle of the center field at Dodger Stadium and they're laying the flag out there. With the time. Yeah. So just be able to lay it out. All right. Here we go. The other guy comes running up with him now. The two of them are there. The one came first. He's pouring obviously gasoline or lighter fluid on it, out of nowhere. Here comes Rick Monday and it comes uniform, scoops it up. The two guys are like, what? Right. And the Dodger Stadium plays, they go crazy. The scoreboard flashes. Rick Monday, you made a great play. That's right. He was a cub. That's right. And the Dodgers had to have him. And shortly thereafter, they traded with the Cubs. We got to have that guy. Yeah. And he's been there ever since. Brother, it's in the middle there. It's American hero. Almost 50 years later. He's still there. He's still doing color. Yes. On the radio side. I mean, that's a great story though. He's got to be what? How old? I didn't look at it. It's got to be in the 70s. It's got a late 70s. He's 78. Yeah. After mine in November, he'll turn 79. Yeah. How cool is that? Well, we got four games for you to bet on today, by the way, unbelievable. And we will be carrying the Dodgers and the Padres tonight after the black and $1 show. So my point is those that kept something like the pattern tree and again, October baseball is to me, it is postseason baseball, Little League, and the world baseball classic all wrapped into one because of because one, there's a base hit for an RBI. If there's a home run, guys, good pouring out of the dugout. You don't get that in June. You don't get that. Guys are pouring out of the dugout. They're celebrating. I mean, it's something and by the way, if I'm the Cubs, I pick up the phone and get Jesse Winkler on the team. Every team needs a Jesse Winkler. Yeah. He is a rocking your shoe and probably a jag. But the point is though, that's the kind of guy you need on your team that doesn't care. Get yourself a Jesse Wink. Every team should have one, just a bad guy, but but comes through in the clutch and a team guy. Give him a call, Cap. Get Jesse Winkler on your team. Yeah, that's what you need. You got to have those glue guys. He's just that guy. I was texting with Jesse yesterday. I'm not sure what series Jesse's is at. I don't know if he's at home. He was at Milwaukee. And then when they gagged their way out of the playoffs, they don't know where they sent him next. No, I was just texting him yesterday. Danny would know. I don't know where he is, but just I just think that's fun. So if you get a chance, check it out because if you haven't been watching the whole season, post-season baseball is absolutely awesome. It's incredible. Coming up next, here's something that Jeff, it's something that Cap has not talked about. The entire station has talked about this topic, except Cap. We'll talk about it next on the Cap and Jhood Morning Show. Cap and Jhood are packed. Get ready. We are doored and we're doing it better than anybody else alive. Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. It's the Cap and Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. So I looked up the Rick Monday trade and here's my tie to the whole thing. So I went to a car dealer years and years ago to buy a Chevy Blazer. Sure. I've always been a big Chevy guy and I wasn't even in the business yet. I was just starting to make my way and the guy who's the sales guy. We start talking and I said, "How long have you been here?" He goes, "Well, I was a baseball player and I look at his name." And I said, "I know who you are." He said, "There's no way you know who I am from baseball." I said, "I can tell you who you were traded for." And I was haggling on the price because I couldn't afford. Of course. And I said, "I'll tell you, everybody in that trade," he goes, "If you get all the names right in the trade, I'll knock another $500 off this deal right off the bottom line." Wow. Done, Mike Gorman and Rick Munday went from the Cubs and you can see him start to squirm to the Dodgers. Yvonne de Jesus Bill Buckner and you, Jeff Albert, came back to the Cubs. He's like, "You got $500." True story in the car dealer was on Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard in Skokie, right by Old Orchard. Yeah. True story. So that was the deal. That was the trade. Yvonne de Jesus, former Philly, former Cub. 76, he scoops the flag up and gets all the praise from the Dodgers fans and 77, they traded him there. We got to have that guy. All right. We'll take Buckner de Jesus and throw in that minor league pitcher, Jeff Albert. How I remembered it, I'm just freaky with that and that was true. Locked in Cub fan, it was in the transactions, correct, and you read it like, "Oh, okay." And the news pager back in the day. In small type. Right. It's right there. Of course, you remember that. Correct. You're still a young man. You're just watching like, "Oh, that was the deal. Okay. That's what happened." That's it. 500 off the deal. That was a big deal. 500 bucks, like 40 years ago? Oh, yeah. We got five burning questions regarding the Bears coming up at 735 right here on Cap and J-hood. Cap is, because he left the show yesterday, I don't know if people know or not, Cap and I was just doing two hour shows, so because he toward the end, as he sunsets his career at some point, he is starting to do now just two hour shows. So he was off at 9 o'clock yesterday. And so... I had to interview Laura Ricketts for the Chicago Sports Summit. Yes. We were 350 people at this breakfast interview. Yes. And so it was the two of us in front of the entire audience. Uh-huh. Just two of you. Just me and Laura Ricketts in front of 350 people, and I got a chance to talk to her. I brought her to tears. That was super cool, because I brought up November 2nd, 2016, and her whole demeanor changed. She's like, "You're going to make me cry." And talking about the home run by Raje Davis and her young nephew sitting with her at the game, and freaked out, and tears, and she got all emotional about what it meant. She said, "And that's what I want fans to understand. We want to win again here." Yes. We're just trying to build it the right way. Kathy Walters with us here on Cap and J-hood. So the whole thing that is interesting, you're the only one on the station to have not commented on this openly. You know, Cap, there's been seven new NFL head coaches, seven new NFL head coaches were hired in 2021. Five of them have now been fired. One of them, Robert Sala, with the New York Jets. This happened as I was talking about the Bears in this first quarter hour, in the nine o'clock hour. I'm talking about the Bears building a topic, caps not with me, so I'm all alone building a topic, and all of a sudden, breaking news, Robert Sala, out of nowhere, fired by the Jets. When you're a jet, you're a jet. Okay. Think about it, Sala out as the head coach of the Jets only Dan Campbell and Nick Siriani are still on the job from the coaching class of 2021. So I'm sure Shay texted you to let you know why you were talking to Miss Ricketts, that Sala from the Jets is fired. How did that strike you when that came across your phone? I saw that cross, and I thought, wait a second, Aaron's got to have a role in this. It's not like they're 0 and 5, they're 2 and 3. They're not playing great football, but they got a lot of talent over there, a lot of talent. I'm not a huge Robert Sala fan. I think he's a great defensive mind, I just, I hadn't, the team didn't look right to me. And then a couple of weeks ago, we saw Rogers come off the field, Sala went to hug him after a touchdown, and Aaron put his arms up like and set, barked something at him and then kept going. I'm like, it's something's not right over there. And Woody Johnson, the owner, said this was 100% my call. This is the best. We just saw the quote on TV on ESPN. This is the best team I've had, he said, in 25 years being with the Jets. The best team. Okay. They got a ton of talent. Defense is underachieved, and Sala is a defensive guy. And so they call them in. What didn't make sense to me, but it's awfully early to pull the plug, that's one. Yes. Two, Joe Beningo from WFAN in New York, said he believes the fact that Robert Sala, who is Lebanese, and you're allowed to put the flag of your choice on your arm of your team issued gear, he put a Lebanese flag on show support for his country. Yes. Super cool. Yep. Well, with what's going on in the Middle East, Joe Beningo is reporting on the fan that wearing that flag on his coaching outfit played a part in his firing. I'm not sure that that's true, but that he's pretty well sourced. That's what he's saying. But Woody Johnson said this was my call, not the GM, nobody else. This was my call. I'm trying to save our season, and I don't like what I'm watching. Well, two things with this, and people are wondering, so why is this a topic? Why are we talking about this? The reason why we're talking about this is twofold. One, Bears fans, you see how things are, other places. You have the owner that stepped over the general manager, and everybody else in the organization says, no, I'm firing Robert Sala. The owner decides to do that. That's one. So think about this Bears fans. Wherever you think of the Chicago Bears, think about an owner in a UK trip saying, yeah, you know what? I've seen enough. I'm firing him. So now you're cutting the balls off the general manager, not allowing him to generally manage the team. The owner's doing that. Number two, cap has the Jets winning the AFC. I did. So that's so not only underachieving Aaron Rodgers, not only underachieving defense, but now they fired their head coach. Damn. Call for your Jets bit. That'll be all. The Jets are going to win Monday night. I said the AFC. No, I'm talking about Monday night. We can only be want to know this week, John. Who's we? The Jets. Oh, oh, we're. Oh, you're a Jets fan now. How about this, Jay Moore? I worked that. No, no, no. I'm trying to speak is if I worked for the Jets, you said I have them winning the AFC. So I'm taking the role of the Jets. Oh. And mass. Oh, and you're a Jets, you're a Jets. And so if I was running things in there, I would say, guys, I'm not worried about two weeks from now. I'm not worried about that goof David Kaplan picking us to go to the Super Bowl. I'm worried about this week. We can get to one and all this week. That's all we can do. So coach Salah is gone. He's out. Now what didn't make sense to me is why did you have to escort him out with security? Like, was he going to punch somebody? Jets security. You got to go. Let's go. And he's like, can I talk to my team? No. The owner said, no, you cannot meet with your team or your staff. See? Get out. We'll send your money. So why does I know the Bears have never done that? As a matter of fact, I know. They never fired anyone in season. Never fired anyone in season, but never escorted someone out before they could talk to people. You remember when did. Did you run? Did you run the same way? He spoke. Right. Dica, this too shall pass. Yeah. And then there was video, I remember, I think on channel five, I think it was Gene Greco, way back in the day on channel five NBC. There's Dittcup in his office at the old Hallis Hall. Yes. And he's looking down and talking to the fans that had gathered below like it was a, you know, a mass. Yes. It was like him is seeking his beak outside of the Vatican window. Right. He was like the Pope. Yes. And he thank you, you know. This too shall pass. So ridiculous. Crazy. Yeah. I heard it. I'm like, well, that's awfully quick. Five games, but the owner said, I believe that coach Obrick, who has the respect of the coaches and players on the team, along with the coaches on this staff, he get the most out of our talented team and attain the goals we established this off season. And this is the first time I've ever fired a coach in season. He purchased the Jets in 2000. And I want to make ESPN 1000 morning show co-host David Kaplan look smart. Let's go jets to the Super Bowl. Yeah, that is. That's not what it says there. That's an ad lib there is it's not said on your screen. Let me tell you what, no, that last part is not part of it. He's thinking that he's thinking that by the way, just as a matter of fact, the Jets are playing the bills next. Good luck. Um, so here's the thing, cap. It only go one and all what you're taking on the bill. So long, everybody. We'll have a loss. The bill on beaten? No, it just got smoked will be okay. Bills have lost too straight, buddy. You need to burn that ticket. And I'm sure that you have some kind of backdoor ticket on the Jets winning the AFC away in the Super Bowl because you have this man crush for Aaron Rodgers, which it makes no sense because Aaron Rodgers is a coach killer. Aaron Rodgers is a coach killer. You know why Robert Sala is out of a job is because of Aaron Rodgers. That's why Aaron Rodgers wants things his way. Here's the thing that's so ridiculous about it. Aaron Rodgers may not be with the Jets after this season. So Woody Johnson is putting all his chips in the middle of the table for a guy that's not playing well. That's that's in the autumn of his career. That's the other thing. It has very few magical moments left at the quarterback position at his age. That's not LeBron James up there, cap. That's Aaron Rodgers. So, so, okay. So you couldn't work with Matt LaFlore. So, okay. So you had to go someplace else. Then don't forget also, we remember in the summer, this dude just goes to Egypt and doesn't tell the staff until the head coach, yeah, I'm just gone, unexcused absence cap, unexcused absence. He's a jag. But anyway. And that cap, he's a coach killer. Any time there's someone's a coach killer, that's a bad guy. You want to shine that up and tell me that's not a bad guy. Something that gets coaches fired. And the other thing, I'll tell you something else about what happened out there in the UK. Long trip, right? Woody Johnson with all his muckity mucks and all his rich friends. Hey, Woody, tough loss. You lost to a quarterback you used to have on your team, Sam Darnold. That was embarrassing to him and his mucking and muck friends in the UK. You lost to Sam Darnold. Hmm. Vikings must be a pretty good kid and that had to stick to his craw. He had to be like, oh, God, I lost to Sam Darnold. We're in the UK. My friends at the dinner is telling us, hey, man, you need to make some changes here. And then of course, Aaron Rodgers on the phone. Woody, if you want me to stay with this ball club, you got to get rid of, tell us the ball is here. Get rid of Baldi. And that's what he did. Aaron Rodgers killed him. And reportedly he was going to fire or not fire, demote Nathaniel Hackett, the offensive coordinator, and give play calling to another member of the staff. He'd still have his job, but he wouldn't be calling the plays. And as soon as they heard that before he had a chance to tell Hackett, five minutes after Woody Johnson got word of it, get Robert Salah up here, Robert, we're making a change. I wish the best to your family. Good luck to you. Security. Get him out of here. That's brutal. That's dirty pool right there, Cap. It is because of Aaron Rodgers. You don't even know he's going to be with you next year, let alone be able to lead you where you need to go. Like the magic's gone. He's not the same guy, Cap. He's not. And you allow him to run the organization, Aaron Rodgers, who just gets up and does ayahuasca and just goes up and just takes a trip whenever he wants to. Tune in. Not right. So stick with your jets. Stick with him. Beat the bills Monday night in the Meadowlands. With you being a mush, we know that's not going to happen now. Now that you made that declarative statement, that'll be all. Jets lose again. Jets win. Okay. How about that, Jay Moore? He says that your guy Josh Allen's going to go down to Aaron Rodgers in the jet. How about that? Why do you think I ain't saying nothing, man? It's not happening. He's not going to lose three in a row. Sorry. Wow. That's all. It's not going to happen. I love it. All right. Can't wait months. Hopefully Sunday morning, I wake up, Brett and I cook some omelets with Mindy. We watch the bear beat the jag. Watch the rest of the day and night of football. Come in here, do a victory Monday with you and then Monday night. Let's go, Jets. I think I may put on a green shirt just to be ready for Monday night. You want to put something on there? Oh. What's the line? You tell me? I'll look it up. I will look it up for you, Jay Moore. He's always going to side with the jag. Not a surprise. Aaron Rodgers, that's where you're going to put your money on. That guy. Yeah. It's ridiculous. He's pretty good kid. I know that you want to spoon with him, but the point is, though, is that that has nothing to do with the football. I want to sit down and have dinner with you. Why? Jets are getting two and a half. Yeah. So, Jay Moore, are you getting down or what are we doing here? Sandwich bat waddle, right? I mean, let's do it, man. Sandwich bat. All right. Sandwich bat. Okay. You got it. Your choice of where you get it from. Sounds good. All right. We have that there. Siding with a guy as a coach killer, that's a switch. Siding with him. Aaron Rodgers. Killing coaches. Huh? Pretty good. Who is he killed? Other than, he's a lot. Do you know? One coach. Oh, McCarthy. Oh, McCarthy. Just the guy he's been with for all these years. Oh, just McCarthy. The beat cop. Oh, not a second. He won a Super Bowl with McCarthy, too. Can you never make a change? The point is, though, is that Rodgers is seedy. He is. I'm going to dinner with that dude. You watch. That's fine. Well, that says a lot. It says a lot. Sit down. Have cocktails. If you have dinner and cocktails with an empty chair, it would be the same. Coming up. Rodgers is a sniper, or is he the poison in your drink guy? Definitely poison your drink guy. He's definitely smooth and just dropping pills in. Hey, what's that over there? Blue? Oh, God. I'm wasting. Darman. That's a good day home. Of course. He's definitely that guy. Absolutely. Tune in. Not what I hear. I hear he's a good dude, man. Oh, really? Oh, yeah. I'm sure. Okay. How about the football side? Any good? Okay. He's one of the five greatest quarterbacks ever. I'm talking about now, cap. Don't give me the LinkedIn resume. I'm talking about right now. He got it. Coach fired. It all starts brutal. It's brutal. We're on Monday. It's brutal. Let's go. J.E.T.S. Let's go, Aaron. I hope the audience is hearing this guy. Now he's a Jets fan. No. Just. It's amazing. I'm not a Jets fan. Whichever way the wind blows. It's amazing. I'm not a Jets fan. But I've always liked Aaron. My opinion, because he was a packer. But there's something about that dude I like. Whichever way the wind blows. My team is the Bears. Uh-huh. But I'm Aaron Rodgers fan. That's what you're saying. But I like Aaron. Yeah. I do. All right. We will have five burning questions with the Bears. That is next. He's vaccinated. We go to the dinner. Well, that might not be the case. But I love him though. Got a needle? No. Okay. You sit over there. 20 yards away. All right. Coming up. Pass. On the Bears. And then we got no shot at eight o'clock. It's a waddle Wednesday on Captain Jay Hood. The Chicago Bears are trash. Checkmate one six, Lanny of suppression on target. That's why I see him in my shirt. Shot or no shot with Captain Jay Hood on ESPN 1000 and ESPN Chicago at. That's why I see him in my shirt. Good morning and welcome in to the Captain Jay Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, John other hood with you. We'll hear from Tommy with Waddle Wednesday coming your way at 835. But now it's time for shot or no shot. Here's Sean. Good morning, Sean. Good morning, boys on a waddle Wednesday. How are we doing? We're doing awesome, man. Good to have you here in Shea's stead. He's up cheering on his beloved tigers. Well, cheering is maybe not the word. Hating on the tigers. Of course. That dude was sweating the other day. It was like, wow, nervous. He wants this tiger. Sean, you got any intel on Chris Collins in Northwestern? You being a cat? You know, UIC has got to play Northwestern in November. Can you give me some intel? It's Boobooie back for this year. Do you have that intel? Honestly, I wish, but I mean, the guards, the back court's looking pretty solid. I mean, I'm liking the Fairfield guy. I think he's going to be really solid. I think the front court's going to be really big. I think Marnelle is going to have a breakout year. Oh, no. Let's go. I'm a Chris Collins guy. I'm all in on Chris Collins. Let's go cats. Go cats. Rob Esan over at UIC. It was at practice yesterday. I didn't really go back in there to have a shot. Would you say Nissan? You heard what you heard when I said Nissan. That's a car. Rob Esan. Don't know the man. Yes. Yes, he's got he's got him cooking over there. You wouldn't know if he assaulted me out in front of the studio. And that's the hope. Here's Sean. Wow. All right, guys. Let's start on the Bears offensive line. So, offensive guard Bill Murray was the fifth highest graded guard in week five, according to Pro Football Focus, highlighted with zero pressures, hurries, or sacks allowed, and zero penalties. Fun fact, Bill Murray came into the NFL as a defensive tackle before making the change to the offensive line. So, shot or no shot. Bill Murray should be your starting left guard for the remainder of the season. Opposite, Kevin Jenkins, if he can get back on the field at right guard. That's the fact, Jack. I'd be, well, wait a minute. What's happening to Matt Pryor? Well, I mean, could he be, say, like a rotational guy? I mean, obviously, Kevin's out now. I mean, you could plug him in at right guard now. Bill Murray was impressive for the time that he was out there. He was. He was. He hasn't earned the starting spot yet for me. Played well. Yeah. I like Matt Pryor. He's big, six, seven, three, 30. I like him. I would like to see Kevin at right guard next to Darnell right. And then Big Matt Pryor to help with Braxton Jones. And then get Ryan Bates off IR. Let's go. Did you get a breakdown of why that wouldn't work? We got why it would work because you all got all that beef on one side. But didn't you get an opposite viewpoint of that? Did someone talk to you, was it waddle? Someone talked to you about the opposite view of that. Well, Olin is a big proponent of moving Kevin to the right side. Yeah, I get it. So when they get back, I'll make my calls up to Lake Forest and see what kind of intel I can get. I would say it's a no shot, Sean, only because first of all, the positive is is that you have some guys that are special teamers that could step in there and be able to be a backup and be pressed in the service and do the job, Sean. Last night, Connor Boudard became the second player in Blackhawks history to record a point in two season opening games as a teenager to the other. You might know him, Eddie Olcek in 1984 and 1986. And so, shot or no shot. When it's all said and done, Connor Boudard will be a more polarizing athlete over Caleb Williams in Chicago. Why are you say polarizing? What do you mean by that? Well, just in terms of his image as a Chicago athlete, will he have a better or, let's say, more, I guess, famous image than Caleb Williams when it's all said and done. That's no shot. It's the NFL. Sorry, Connor Boudard, who's a great player. If Caleb Williams is who we believe that he's going to be, again, he has to achieve that level of success. But if 20 years from now, Caleb Williams is retiring at 40 years old or whatever he is, 42 at that point. And he's what we all thought he was. He will be the second most famous athlete in the history of the city. No one's ever going to surpass MJ. Caleb Williams will be number two. But that's 20 years from now. Yes. Multiple championships would help that. More than one, Cap. No question. Because 85 Bears won their one championship. It should have been more. So I'm looking like multiple championships. Because that's when you're really walking with legends. We could do it several times. Yeah, if there's multiple Super Bowls airing here on the home of the Bears ESPN, 1,000 by the way. Yes, yes, yes. To be super cool. Caleb Williams will be the second most famous athlete in the history of this great city. And you know who's going to help Boudard is the Blackhawks pushing their chips in the middle of the table, delving in the free agency. Having Bertuzzi, having terra vine on the team, they both signed his free agency on July 1st. I mean, they could be on the same line with Boudard moving forward. Now, they lost yesterday to the Utah Hockey Club. But the point is, Cap, is that you have good chemistry. Curry Shev is on the team as well as a right winger. And so terra vine in-- and I was reading this the other day-- a guy that said, you know what? I'm glad to be here. Even though it's a rebuild situation, terra vine's-- I'm just happy to be here. And also Bertuzzi says, I could just play hockey nice and free now, easy and free. And so although 53 points for terra vine in last year with Carolina, it's only going to help Chicago's production offensively, a team that only scored like 2.2 goals a game last year. He never wanted to leave here. But remember the Hawks had all the salary cap issues? Terra vine in. They said, you take Brian Pickle's money, we'll give you terra vine in. That's how that went down. And here we are now, Connor Boudard and a group trying to resurrect the franchise. That's good, but at least he's not there by himself Boudard. He's got some veterans, right? That's good. He does. That means that they're building the right way. Haven't heard Davidson say it the way that polls said, but they're trying to build it the right way. That is correct. Sean, can you squeeze in one more, sir? All right, let's get into a little Caleb against the blitz. I know it's been a heavily heavy conversation over the past few weeks. Caleb has been dazzling as of late against the rush. In his last two games, Williams is 17 for 19 for 200 yards, two TDs, and maybe the key stat, zero turnover worthy plays. So shot or no shot, Caleb's ability to identify and conquer the blitz this early in his career has been the biggest difference between Williams and Fields at this point through week five in his career. Yeah, that's a shot. That's a shot to identify that the pressure is coming. Absolutely. We've seen the numbers just like Sean just laid out. We've seen the week after week against the blitz, how quickly Williams gets the ball out, gets his targets, and is able to help the offense move. He just laid out for you, absolutely. Compare. Now, here's the difference. Again, even today with Justin Fields, sometimes he doesn't get the ball out quick enough. And so with Caleb Williams, here's the guy here that's learning already. Hey, man, if you don't get that ball out in two and a half seconds, you're going to get sacked or you're going to be pressured. So I think that that is a shot, absolutely. Compared to Fields? Yeah, absolutely a shot. It's not even everything that dude just said to my laugh, my partner. Shot. 100%. There's no doubt about that. All right, coming up, we go around the NFL. We're going to hear from Tom Waddle as well for Waddle Wednesday at 835. And we may hear more from London. And Bears are going to send a couple others up to the podium. It might be people of importance. Like-- Ryan Poles, potentially, or Kevin Warren. Expect it at the podium. George? I don't believe so. OK, well, I'm not interested. Why would I not hear from George if he's up there? All right, around the NFL, on Captain Jay Hood. Welcome back. Welcome back to Captain Jay Hood on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN, Chicago. It both sucks. These sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football evaluator. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is front, but there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I love winning. He starts the comedy call. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? Whoa, Billy! We're going around the NFL right here on the Captain Jay Hood morning show on ESPN 1,000. And streaming on the ESPN in Chicago Apple with you till 10 o'clock. Then Mike Greenberg comes in at 10. Followed by Carmen Eorco at 12. Waddle and Sylvia 3. Tyler and Abdullah, 6.30 to 8 into exciting San Diego Padres baseball as they take on the Dodgers and the playoffs. I was texting with Black. He's in Spain. Sounds like having a hell of a time, man. Super cool. Around the NFL. Here's Sean. All right. And a power rankings edition of Around the NFL today on this Wednesday edition of the Captain Jay Hood show. So we'll start at number 10. The Chicago Bears enter as they were unranked. Hello there, as the offensive efficiency metrics are still a mess unless you kind of squint your eyes and look at the last two weeks. Caleb Williams is definitely starting to spin the ball. And this defense is obviously top five. And this entire NFC North is just overall in the top 10. So can we agree the Bears are a top 10 football team? Because a lot of teams better take care of business Sunday. That's a team you should beat. You should absolutely be able to put Trevor Lawrence on his back four times. That's a game you've got to win. Again, I don't go with the-- I told you when I thought it was a must win. This one, you have got to get it done. Find a way, get on to playing home four and two, and enjoy your bye week. But yeah, if you're a four and two, I would absolutely concur a top 10 team. Number nine, Sean. All right, sliding onto the top five from last week. The Buffalo Bills down four spots. They're kind of in a danger zone here. The talent is there. The team is good, but the late game play calling. You've got to murder the Jets to kind of get this right here. OK. Number nine, the Bills is going to tell a great story with the Bills as they take on the Jets this week. You would think that'd be a motivated Jets crew. I would think. They were what, two and three? Yeah. This is their-- you win this game and get the three and three. And the offense shows some life. You would say, OK, now let's see if they got something to build. You go to two and four. You've gotten the juice from the coaching change, and it didn't help you. That's a problem. Number eight, Sean. All right, our second new team of the week, the Atlanta Falcons. They finally look like they were supposed to. Kirk Cousins then go through the ball all around the yard to the tune of 500 yards at the head or against a division opponent. I should say, welcome to the party, Atlanta. Yeah, so Atlanta now will take on the Panthers. That's going to be in Carolina cap. And Atlanta Falcons are a six-point favorite. So Atlanta, I've always thought that there would be a playoff team because of Kirk Cousins. He's got a lot of weapons around him now again. Once they get to the playoffs, I can't help you on what they're going to do. But it's a team that's got plenty of offense. And we saw it on display last time out. Over 500 yards passing. Five on that. Crazy. Crazy. So Falcons eight, number seven. A riser this week, the Green Bay Packers up three spot, some justice NFC North. Green Bay makes up one of three teams in the top seven. This division is just simply elite hoodie. Green Bay Packers at number seven. Yeah, I don't know if I would again. Yes, they're a good football team. Maybe. Yeah, I mean, they got it. The highest paid quarterback in the late. Well, second now because Dak signed. Only up to seven. Not sure I'd have that high, but I think Buffalo is a better team than Green Bay. I do. That is correct. But we have them behind them in the power ring because Buffalo's lost too straight. Fair enough. Listen, I'm not a dream killer, but I will just tell you that Jordan Love has just got to be able to get over that injury and play better football. The packer fans that I know at ESPN Milwaukee and in Madison are not happy about Jordan Love's numbers against the Rams. And so to have the Bears 10 and Green Bay 7. I mean, that says something. I don't know if Green Bay is that far along and over the Bears. I don't know if they're that up the track. So Green Bay at seven. All right, number six, Sean. All right, another riser this week up two spots. The Washington commanders, it's CJ Stroud all over again. They just refuse to lose. The defense is not good, but at some point that will catch up to them. Chain came back to Earth kind of this week, and they kind of hit off Deshawn Watson's dinner plate. You know, obviously not a great situation in Cleveland. But life's about to get real. Can they survive? Sean, I think that the ultimate question is would you eat off of Deshawn Watson's dinner plate? No, no, definitely. I think there's a reason why the food would slip right off the plate. Wow. Wow, that would be the Deshawn's oil. It would be greasy. That's the whole joke. Yeah. Washington commanders at six. Well, you know what? Listen, I'm not trying to fast forward through the season, but I am looking forward to seeing the Bears against the commanders. Bears get past the jags, you have your bye week, and then right here, a big spot. You get kilograms going back home to the district. You take it on, and Jayden Daniels, as I was talking about this yesterday, Cap, you have three quarterbacks that are 22 years of age right now. It's Caleb. It's Jane Daniels as Anthony Richardson. Correct. Those are the-- that's the young bucks of the quarterback position in the NFL. And I think that for years, we'll look at those three in this quarterback class. And no, Richardson was hurt last year, but the point is, they're all 22. Let's see where they're going to be in five years. See where they're all going to be together. So Washington at six. All right, number five, sir. All right, a slight rise from last week's rankings. The Houston Texans up won. It wasn't pretty, but Shroud has been quietly building an MVP resume while everyone else has been touching themselves to his rookie year tape and Jayden Daniels. He's an MVP dark horse here. Back to the Watson talk. So just one loss for the Houston Texans, Cap, and they'll play the Patriots coming up. So we got Houston at five. You know, it's funny, I asked you earlier, like, how many teams are better than the Bears? The Bears at 10 on this list is very interesting. So we go with Houston at five. Number four, Sean, go ahead. All right, same mainstay here at number four. The Baltimore Ravens, your mission survive. Baltimore got through the Joe Burrell onslaught and survived the late game buffoonery, and they won. Baltimore Ravens, the best team in the NFL, some say. Well, according to Shay, last year they were the best team or one of the best teams ever. They didn't even get to the title game, the AFC title. And speaking of the commanders, there's going to be commanders, Ravens. That's the next game. That, again, tells a great story. Yes. I will be surprised if Washington wins. I will be. Mm. Making an early call for your picks. Yes. Like the Ravens. I do. OK. Ravens have been really solid offensively, though, as of late. Beat the Bills, 35 to 10, beat the Bengals, 41 to 38, in a classic game there between the two. But the Ravens survived, as you just mentioned, Sean. Surviving in advance. All right, number three. All right, another mainstay this week. The Minnesota Vikings, look, 5 and 0's 5 and 0. You know, they are so good that they're getting opposing coaches fired. Is Kevin O'Connell actually god? Is Sam Darnold his resurrected son? Who knows? I don't think that cap is a believer, based on our conversation last hour. You like the start, obviously, because 5 and 0's 5 and 0. But you're not sure if there are paper tigers or not. You feel like they can come back to Earth, based on the last game that they played. I do. I think there are good football team. One of the best? No, I do not. I do think there'll be some regression coming. That's my opinion. So the Lions are the next game. And that is on October, I can't be right. October 20th, that can't be right. I know that's the next game for them is the Lions, followed by at the Rams against the Colts at the Jags. There's a winning in there too, though, cap, with those teams. So look, the Vikings have a good team. I love their defensive coordinator. Very aggressive. I just-- are they this? What if they are? Oh, god. Yeah. I mean, are they built long-term to be this? I'm not sure they are. I'm not. We'll see. Number two. All right, will there be a mover from the top two? Last week, we had Kansas City and Detroit top two, and there will not be a mover. And Detroit stays at the top two in my world in this league. You cannot lose to the bi-week Detroit stays right here. Detroit at number two. Yeah, Detroit's great. And if you told me you had him at one, I would not complain. I think they're a great football team. I do. I love their coach. I love the depth on their offensive line. I think they're a hell of a football team. And number one, as we all will know, the Raiders. So that's always good to know Raiders at one in this top 10 right here on cap and J-hood. Well, that's how to be the chief. But what do you mean? He never said it. So I'm just going to open the slot, Tommy. That's how you do it, right? You open the slot. Did Sean say everyone is touching themselves? The CJs. He did say that. They are. I mean, I don't blame me. I think-- Well, I think we should blame you. I mean, you're the one who brought it on. I usually say that for a good afternoon of watching the 49ers on the all 22. But you know what? You could talk me into that. For sure. He's playing lights out. Very interesting. Very interesting. I mean, he talks about the Sean Watson and then-- He's an officer. Yeah, very odd. What's going on with you, Sean? That was late night. White Sox games, man. You start coming up with stuff. Yeah, they just completely messed with his mind. I needed that. I needed that. What is that, Tommy? That was good. What is that? I tell you, that was pure entertainment. I can't keep just-- very just slyly put that in there. What does he mean? Oh, I forgot his face. He said, like, no one was going to catch it. But he's like, well, everyone is touching themselves to see this travel video. He's just sitting in there like it was just normal. Man, just like, what? My god. I'm going to stand if I do it. I don't know. Listen, for the young fellow, that was a professional move, right? That's exactly right. Well done, young man. I mean, it's not-- I mean, I have no governor, as you well know. Yes. Tommy, but my god, this guy, everyone's touching themselves on CJ Strah. Wow. My god. Boy, I will tell you this, though. Weekend shows. He makes throws last week that did have your pants down, for sure. Mm-hmm. There's no question about it. And again, Tommy, I start my parlay with Kansas City. Just like you start your day with a cup of coffee. I mean, it's just-- they're never lose again. And if they do lose, you don't want it, they'll find a way. They find a way to make it back. Going back to last year and through the postseason, Hurt Carmen and Yurko are talking about it. They've won 11 straight, and in the process this year, I think Mahomes is like six touchdown, six interceptions. That thing is rolling, sure. My god, man. Find a way, man. That's the team, absolutely. OK, now, already time to get the cigarette going for Patrick Mahomes. He's already lit himself a nice ball ball. There it is. Thinking about the quarterback play of Patrick Mahomes. There it is. Well, that's what it inspires. If you go back to the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback play of a Len Dawson, he had a heater at halftime. That's what they inspired. Right on the sideline. It's one of my favorite pictures. This one cap was-- he was in the locker room. I think it was at halftime. He's smoking a heater, and I think he's got a bottle of Pepsi or Coke next to him. It's a breakfast of champions. That's when men were men in the NFL. So let's go. So this is why I think some of us love Joe Burrow because he did that picture after winning the LSU National Championship is a picture of him the same way. Smoking a cigarette bent over on a stool and smoking after winning the championship. It's unbelievable. It's great. So Waddle Wednesday, we'll talk to Tommy next, right here on cap in J-hood.
