[MUSIC] Good morning and welcome in to the Captain J. Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. People here from Tommy with Waddle Wednesday coming your way at 835, but now it's time for Shot or No Shot. Here's Sean. Good morning, Sean. Good morning, boys on a Waddle Wednesday. How are you doing? We're doing awesome, man. Good to have you here in Shea's stead. He's up cheering on his beloved Tigers. Well, cheering is maybe not the word. Hating on the Tigers, of course. That dude was sweating the other day. It was like, wow, nervous. He wants this tires. Sean, you got any intel on Chris Collins in Northwestern? You being a cat? No, you I see he's got a play Northwestern in November. Can you give me some intel? It's Boobooie back for this year. Do you have that intel? Honestly, I wish, but I mean, the guards, the back court's looking pretty solid. I mean, I'm liking the Fairfield guy. I think he's going to be really solid. I think the front court is going to be really big. I think Marnel is going to have a breakout year. Oh, no. Let's go. I'm a Chris Collins guy. I'm all in at Chris Collins. Let's go cats. Go cats. Rob Esan over at UIC. I was at practice yesterday. I didn't go back in there. Would you say Nissan? You heard what you heard when I said Nissan. That's a car. Rob Esan don't know the man. Yes. Yeah, he's got he's got him cooking over there. I wouldn't know if he assaulted me out in front of the studio. And that's the hope. Here's Sean. Wow. All right, guys, let's start on the Bears offensive line. So, Office of Guard Bill Murray was the fifth highest graded guard in week five, according to pro football focus highlighted with zero pressures, hurries, or sacks allowed and zero penalties. Fun fact, Bill Murray came into the NFL as a defensive tackle before making the change to the offensive line. So, shot or no shot, Bill Murray should be your starting left guard for the remainder of the season. Opposite, Kevin Jenkins, if he can get back on the field at right guard. That's the fact. Jack. I'd be. Well, wait a minute. What's happening to Matt Pryor? Well, I mean, could he be, say, like a rotational guy? I mean, obviously, Kevin's out now. I mean, you could plug him in at right guard now. Bill Murray was impressive for the time that he was out there. He was. He was. He hasn't earned the starting spot yet for me. He played well. Yeah. I like Matt Pryor. He's big, six, seven, three, 30. I like him. I would like to see Kevin at right guard next to Darnell, right? And then Big Matt Pryor to help with Braxton Jones, and then get Ryan Bates off IR. Let's go. Did you get a breakdown of the of why that wouldn't work? We got why it would work, because you all got all that beef on one side. Right. But didn't you get an opposite viewpoint of that? Did someone talk to you? Was it waddle? Someone talked to you about about the opposite view of that. Well, Olin was is a big proponent of moving Kevin to the right side. Yeah, I get it. So when they get back, I'll make my calls up to Lake Forest and see what type of intel I can get. I would say it's a no shot, Sean, only because I first of all, the positive is is that you have some guys that are special teamers that could step in there and be able to be a backup and be pressing the service and do the job, Sean. Last night, Connor Baddard became the second player in Black Hawk's history to record a point in two season opening games as a teenager. The other, you might know him, Eddie Ocek in 1984 and 1986. And so shot or no shot. When it's all said and done, Connor Baddard will be a more polarizing athlete over over Caleb Williams in Chicago. But why are you say polarizing? What does that mean? Well, well, just in terms of, you know, just, you know, his image as a Chicago athlete, will he have a better or let's say more, I guess, famous image than Caleb Williams when it's all said done. That's no shot. It's the NFL. Sorry, Connor Baddard, who's a great player. If Caleb Williams is who we believe that he's going to be, he will be again, he has to achieve that level of success. But if 20 years from now, Caleb Williams is retiring at 40 years old or whatever he is, 42 at that point. And he's what we all thought he was. He will be the second most famous athlete in the history of the city. No one's ever going to surpass MJ. Caleb Williams will be number two, but that's 20 years from now. Yes. Multiple championships would help that more than one cap. No question. Because 85 Bears won their one championship, should have been more. Yep. So I'm looking like multiple championships because that's when you're really walking with legends, we could do it several times. Yeah, if there's multiple Superballs airing here on the home of the Bears, ESPN 1000, by the way, yes, yes, super cool. Caleb Williams will be the second most famous athlete in the history of this great city. And you know who's going to help Baddard is the Blackhawks pushing their chips in the middle of the table, delving into free agency. Having Bertuzzi having terra vine on the team, they both signed his free agents on July 1st. I mean, they could be on the same line with Baddard moving forward. Now, they lost yesterday to the Utah Hockey Club. But the point is, Cap, is that you have good chemistry, Khrushchev is on the team as well as a right winger. And so terra vine and I was reading this the other day, a guy that said, you know what? I'm glad to be here, even though it's a rebuild situation, terra vine's, I'm just happy to be here. And also Bertuzzi says, I could just play hockey nice and free now, easy and free. And so although 53 points for terra vine and last year with Carolina, it's only going to help Chicago's production offensively. A team that only scored like 2.2 goals a game last year. He never wanted to leave here. But remember the Hawks had all the salary cap issues? Terra vine and they said, you take Brian Pickle's money, we'll give you terra vine. That's how that went down. And here we are now, Connor Baddard and a group trying to resurrect the franchise. That's good, but at least he's not there by himself, Baddard. Scat some veterans, right? That's good. He does. That means that they're building the right way. Haven't heard David to say it the way that polls said, but they're trying to build it the right way. That is correct. Sean, can you squeeze in one more, sir? All right, let's get into a little Caleb against the blitz. I know it's been a heavily heavy conversation over the past few weeks. Caleb has been dazzling as of late against the rush. In his last two games, Williams is 17 for 19 for 200 yards, two TDs, and maybe the key stat zero turnover worthy plays. So shot or no shot, Caleb's ability to identify and conquer the blitz this early in his career has been the biggest difference between Williams and Fields at this point through week five in his career. Yeah, that's a shot. That's a shot. To identify that the pressure is coming, absolutely. We've seen the numbers just like Sean just laid out. We've seen the week after week against the blitz, how quickly Williams gets the ball out, gets his targets, and is able to help the offense move. He just laid it out for you, absolutely. Compare. Now, here's the difference. Again, even today with Justin Fields, sometimes he doesn't get the ball out quick enough. And so with Caleb Williams, here's a guy here that's learning already. Hey, man, if you don't get that ball out in two and a half seconds, you're going to get sacked or you're going to be pressured. So I think that that is a shot. Absolutely. Compared to Fields? Yeah, I absolutely a shot. That's not even everything that dude just said to my left, my partner. A shot. There's no doubt about that. All right, coming up, we go around the NFL. We're going to hear from Tom Waddle as well for Waddle Wednesday at 835. And we may hear more from London. Bears are going to send a couple others up to the podium. It might be people of importance. Like Ryan Poles potentially or Kevin Warren expected at the podium. George? I don't believe so. Okay, well, I'm not interested. Why would I hear from George if he's up there? All right, around the NFL on Captain Jay Hood. Welcome back to Captain Jay Hood. I'm Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Hit both sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football evaluator. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is front, but there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I love the winner. He starts to come any more. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? We're going around the NFL right here on the Captain Jay Hood morning show on ESPN 1000. And streaming on ESPN Chicago Apple with you till 10 o'clock. And my Greenberg comes in at 10. Followed by Carmen Iyorco at 12. Wadland Sylvia 3, Tyler and Abdullah 638 into exciting San Diego Padres baseball, as they take on the Dodgers and the playoffs. I was texting with Black. He's in Spain. Sounds like having a hell of a time, man. Super cool. Around the NFL. Here's Sean. All right. And a power rankings edition of around the NFL today on this Wednesday edition of the Captain Jay Hood show. So we'll start at number 10. The Chicago Bears enter as they were unranked. Hello there as the offensive efficiency metrics are still a mess. Unless you kind of squint your eyes and look at the last two weeks. Caleb Williams is definitely starting to spin the ball. And this defense is obviously top five. And this entire NFC North is just in and just overall in the top 10. So can we agree the Bears are a top 10 football team? Because a lot of teams better take care of business Sunday. That's a team you should beat. You should absolutely be able to put Trevor Lawrence on his back four times. That's a game you've got to win. Again, I don't go with the month. I told you when I thought it was a must win. This one, you have got to get it done. Find a way. Get on to playing home four and two and enjoy your bye week. But yeah, if you're four and two, I would absolutely concur a top 10 team. Number nine, Sean. All right, sliding on to the top five from last week, the Buffalo Bills down four spots. They're kind of in a danger zone here. The talent is there. The team is good. But the late game play calling, you got to murder the Jets to kind of get this right here. Okay. Number nine, the Bills is going to tell a great story with the Bills as they take on the Jets this week. You would think that'd be a motivated Jets crew. I would think they're what, two and three? Yeah. This is their seat. You win this game and get the three and three and the offense shows some life. You would say, okay, now let's see if they got something to build. You go to two and four, you've gotten the juice from the coaching change and it didn't help you. That's a problem. Number eight, Sean. All right, our second new team of the week, the Atlanta Falcons, they finally looked like they were supposed to Kirk Cousins in code through the ball all around the yard to the tune of 500 yards at the head of or against a division opponent. I should say welcome to the party, Atlanta. Yeah. So Atlanta now will take on the Panthers. That's going to be in Carolina, Captain. Atlanta Falcons are a six point favorite. So Atlanta, I've always thought that there would be a playoff team because of Kirk Cousins. He's got a lot of weapons around him now again. Once they get to the playoffs, I can't help you on what they're going to do. But it's a team that's got plenty of offense. And we saw it on display last time out with over 500 yards passing. Five on a crazy, crazy. So Falcons eight, number seven. A riser this week, the Green Bay Packers up three spots. Um, just this NFC North, Green Bay makes up one of three teams in the top seven. This division is just simply elite hoodie. Green Bay Packers at number seven. Yeah, I don't know if I would again. Yes, they're good football team. Maybe. Yeah. I mean, they got it. The highest paid quarterback in the late. Well, second now because Dak signed. Oh, we have to seven. Not sure I'd have that high, but. Like, I think Buffalo's a better team than Green Bay. I do. That is correct. But we have them behind them in the power ring because Buffalo's lost too straight. Fair enough. Listen, don't, I'm not a dream killer. But I will just tell you that Jordan Love has just got to be able to get over that injury and play better football. The Packer fans that I know at ESPN Milwaukee and in Madison are not happy about Jordan Love's numbers against the Rams. And so, you know, to have the Bears 10 and Green Bay seven. I mean, that's, that says something. I don't know if Green Bay is that far, far along and over the Bears. I don't know if they're that up the track. So Green Bay at seven. All right. Number six, Sean. All right. Another riser this week up two spots. The Washington commanders, it's CJ Stroud all over again. They just refuse to lose. The defense is not good. But at some point that will catch up to them. Shane came back to Earth kind of this week. And they kind of hit off Deshawn Watson's dinner plate. You know, obviously not a great situation in Cleveland. But life's about to get real. Can they survive? Sean, I think that the ultimate question is, would you eat off of Deshawn Watson's dinner plate? Mm, no, definitely. I think there's a reason why the food would slip right off the plate. Wow. Wow. That would be the Sarge oil. It would be greasy. That's the whole joke. Yeah. Washington commanders at six. Well, you know what? Listen, I'm not trying to fast forward through the season, but I am looking forward to seeing the Bears against the commanders. Bears get past the jags, you have your bye week, and then right here, a big spot. You get Kennel Williams going back home to the district. You take it on, and Jane Daniels, as I was talking about this yesterday, Cap, you have three quarterbacks that are 22 years of age right now. It's Caleb. It's Jane Daniels as Anthony Richardson. Correct. Those are the young bucks of the quarterback position in the NFL. And I think that for years, we'll look at those three in this quarterback class. You know, Richardson was hurt last year, but the point is they're all 22. Let's see where they're going to be in five years. See where they're all going to be together. So Washington at six. All right, number five, sir. All right, a slight rise from last week's rankings. The Houston Texans up one. It wasn't pretty. But Shroud has been quietly building an MVP resume while everyone else has been touching themselves to his rookie year, tape, and Jane Daniels. He's an MVP dark horse here. Back to the Watson talk. So just one loss for the Houston Texans, Cap, and they'll play the Patriots coming up. So we got Houston at five. You know, it's funny. I asked you earlier, like how many teams are better than the Bears? The Bears at 10 on this list is very interesting. So we go with Houston at five, number four. Sean, go ahead. All right. Same mainstay here at number four. The Baltimore Ravens, your mission survived. Baltimore got through the Joe Burrow onslaught and survived the late game buffoonery, and they won. Baltimore Ravens, the best team in the NFL, some say. Well, according to Shea, last year, they were the best team, or one of the best teams ever. They didn't even get to the title game. And the AFC title. And speaking of the commanders, there's going to be commanders, Ravens. That's the next game. That, again, tells a great story. Yes. I will be surprised if Washington wins. I will be. Ooh, making an early call for your picks. Yes. Like the Ravens. I do. Okay. Ravens have been really solid offensively though as of late. Beat the Bills, 35 to 10, beat the Bengals, 41 to 38, in a classic game there between the two. But the Ravens survived, as you just mentioned, Sean. Surviving advance. All right, number three. All right, another mainstay this week. The Minnesota Vikings, look, five and those five and oh, you know, they are so good that they're getting opposing coaches fired. Is Kevin O'Connell actually, God is Sam Darnold, his resurrected son? Who knows? I don't think that cap is a believer, based on our conversation last hour. You like the start, obviously, because five and oh, five and oh, but you're not sure if they're paper tigers or not. You feel like they could come back to earth based on the last game that they played. I do. I think there are good football teams. One of the best? No, I do not. I do think there'll be some regression coming. That's my opinion. So the Lions are the next game and that is on October. That can't be right. October 20th, that can't be right. I know that's the next game for them is the Lions, followed by at the Rams against the Colts at the Jags. There's a winning in there too though, Cap, with those teams. So look, the Vikings have a good team. They love their defensive coordinator. Very aggressive. I just, are they this? What if they are? Oh, God. Yeah. I mean, are they built long-term to be this? I'm not sure they are. I'm not. We'll see. Number two. All right. Will there be a mover from the top two? Last week we had Kansas City and Detroit top two and there will not be a mover. And Detroit stays at the top two in my world in this league. You cannot lose to the bi-week Detroit stays right here. Detroit at number two. Yeah, Detroit's great. And if you told me you had him at one, I would not complain. I think they're a great football team. I do. I love their coach. I love the depth on their offensive line. I think they're a hell of a football team. And number one, as we all will know, the Raiders. So that's always good to know Raiders at one in this top ten right here on cap and J-hood. Well, that's how to be the chief. But what do you mean? He never said it. So I'm just open the slot, Tommy. That's how you do it, right? You open the slot. Did Sean say everybody's touching themselves? He did say that. They are. I mean, I don't blame me. I think, well, I think we should blame you. I mean, you're the one who brought it on. I usually save that for a good afternoon of watching the 49ers on the all 22. But you know what? You could talk me into that for sure. He's playing lights out. Very interesting. Very interesting. I mean, he talks about the Sean Watson and then he talks about... Yeah, very odd. What's going on with you, Sean? It was late night, White Sox games, man. You start coming up with stuff. Hey, they just completely messed with his mind. I needed that. What is that, Tommy? That was good. What is that? I tell you, that was pure entertainment. I can't cheat. Just very just slyly put that in there. What does he mean? Oh, I forgot his face. He said, like, no one was going to catch it. Well, everyone is touching themselves. He just stood in there like it was just normal. Man, just like, what? My God. I'm going to stand if I do it. I don't know. Listen, for the young fellow, that was a professional move, right? That's exactly right. Well done, young man. I mean, I have no governor as you well know. Yes, Tommy, but my God, this guy. Everyone's touching themselves on CJ Strah. Wow. My God. Boy, I will tell you this. Weeknd shows. He made some throws last week that did have your pants down, for sure. There's no question about it. And again, Tommy, I start my parlay with Kansas City. Just like you start your day with a cup of coffee. I mean, it's just, they're never lose again. And if they do lose, you don't want it, they'll find a way. They find a way to make it back. Going back to last year and through the postseason, I heard Carmen and Yerko are talking about it. They've won 11 straight. And in the process this year, I think Mahomes is like six touchdowns, six interceptions. It's, that thing is rolling, sure. My God, man. Find a way, man. Yeah, that's the team. Absolutely. Okay, now already time to get the cigarette going for Patrick Mahomes. He's got, he's already lit himself a nice ball ball. There it is. Thinking about the quarterback play of Patrick Mahomes. There it is. Well, that's what it inspires. If you go back to the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback play of a Len Dawson, he had a heater at halftime. You know, that's what they inspired. On the sideline. It's one of my favorite pictures. This one cap was, he was in the, it was in the locker room. I think it was at halftime. He's smoking a heater and I think he's got a bottle of Pepsi or Coke next to him. Like, it's a breakfast of champions. That's when men were men, the NFL. So let's go. So this is why I think some of us love Joe Burrow, because he did that picture after winning the LSU National Championship. It's a picture of him the same way. Smoking a cigarette bent over on a stool and smoking after winning the championship. It's unbelievable. It's great. So Waddle Wednesday, we'll talk to Tommy next right here on Cap and Jay Hood. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. Cap and Jay Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Tom Waddle. Tom Waddle. Former wide receiver for the Chicago Bears. Guys, amazing. 1989 all Madden team and afternoon co-host on ESPN Chicago. I think he's going to start at least eight games in the National Football League next year for a team that's going to give him a chance. It's Waddle Wednesday with Tom Waddle. Listen, I got a pedicure in an hour. When I get back here, the wheels better be spinning, all right. On Cap and Jay Hood, ESPN Chicago. [MUSIC] It's Cap and Jay Hood morning show on ESPN 1000 and we are streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. And now it's time to go to the hotline. That would be the car ex-tire and on a hotline, John. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. [MUSIC] Good morning, Tommy. How are you? I'm good, I'm good. I know so long, fired, okay. [APPLAUSE] This is the best, Tommy. This guy right here, the best. How about that? I mean, and this guy here to my right, the Aaron Rodgers apologists, who wants to spoon with him at any given time. This guy here is defending Rodgers. He got Salah fired. Yeah, like, I never thought Salah was a great head coach. I thought he did some really good things when he was with San Francisco. I think he came from Seattle too, right? But I just, I don't know, there was a disconnect there. But I mean, the reason why this team is, defensively, they look pretty damn good. It's their offense. Why are you asking Aaron Rodgers to throw the ball 50 plus times when the game's not out of hand? And he didn't play well. So, I think the culpability is more in the offensive side of the building than the defensive side of the building. But there's got to be more, Tommy and Jonathan, too, what went down. First of all, he gets fired by Woody Johnson. Five minutes after people in the building, I think he's demoting Nathaniel Hackett. Not firing him, demoting him from play calling. And Woody Johnson, get him up to my office right now. You're done. And wishes him well. And that has security, escort him from the building. Won't even let him say goodbye to people. Yeah, I mean, the team, I don't know how. Look, the head of security is always very close to the head coach. You see you see John Tarpy wherever Mattie Berflu says. That's correct. You know, the ball headed gentleman with a great deal. Known him for decades. But, you know, the head coach in the head of security, it's not like that's a very friendly relationship wherever you're at. Like, that's your right-hand man if you're a head coach. He follows you everywhere for obvious reasons. So, I don't think it's as nefarious as it sounds or it's as, you know, high tension as it may sound. But, you know, Woody Johnson, I guess there was a rumor that he was also very, you know, he was very locked in on them winning in London because he wasn't. He did. Wasn't he the, what do you call it? My brain's not working today. Rich. No, he is rich. Yeah, absolutely. He ran his rich muckety mucks and he was embarrassing for him to lose against his former quarterback, Sam Darnell. Yeah. Wasn't he the ambassador to, to, to, to learn something like whatever it was? No, you're right. That's right. That's so. Losing in London carried a little extra, a little extra juice, I guess. Anyway, I mean, you could tell from Hard Knocks the year before. Like, I, I still thought, you know, and I still do believe that Aaron Rodgers can play. But you could just tell, like, there was a vibe with that team. And it's probably in large part because Aaron Rodgers is in the building, but there's a vibe in the team that just seems, you know, uneasy. Yeah, he was the ambassador to the United Kingdom from 17 to 21. Right. So he had a bunch of friends and important people, I think, at the game. And like, there was this ultimatum, you're not going to lose here and embarrass me. They did. Exactly. So now, as you look at our bears and they go off to jolly old London, England, to get the Jaguars, you and I were together last night. Give me your thoughts on what is the key to getting a victory over there? Because Trevor Lawrence can throw for 350 yards, there's no doubt. Yeah, I'm just started watching the jags and Colts film this morning. I don't think that, you know, I heard some people say, well, I'm glad that the jags got that, you know, the proverbial monkey off their back by getting the win last week. I, I'm on the other side of that conversation. I think it actually gives them a little bit of confidence. Remember, they took the Texans to the brink the week before in Houston. So they started to play a little bit better two weeks ago. And offensively, you know, I like their group. The kid, you know, Jonathan, you're the college football guy. The kid Brian Thomas Jr. From LSU, liked him coming out. He's really established himself early. I'm a big fan of Christian Kirk and what he does in the role they ask him. I think they're getting Evan Ingram back. Trevor Lawrence will throw it to you every now and again. But I think their offense, it's finding their way and they're running the ball well. Now would Big be taken over. I think that's his name. Big's be whatever his name is. He's running the football better than ETN was defensively though, guys. Not good. Not as bad as the Panthers. Oh my goodness. I think I was telling anyone who would listen to the three bad defenses they have faced. The Colts, the Rams and the Panthers, the Panthers were the least impressive on film. And they were missing like three or four starters as well. So, you know, that doesn't minimize what I saw from the Bears last week. I think that that's what you do. You know, it's the old TCD taking care of business. And when you find an opponent that is ripe like that, and that you should put a, you know, a beating on, that's what you have to go out and do. And offensively, I thought by far it was their best game. I heard you guys talking about their line. Thought their line played their best game. Wasn't much resistance from the Panthers, but that's okay. But the interior of their line too, which was the most encouraging part of it, was the best of the bunch. I still think Braxton Jones is shows you that he can be a liability. And Darnell is still working through, you know, whatever sophomore issues he's got every now and again. So I thought that the Caleb played great. Thought he, you know, he combined taking care of the football with pushing it down field and getting something out of the vertical game, getting a lot out of the vertical game. So in this game against the Jags, I think the Jags are going to score some points. So you're going to have to score with them. I don't think it's a great Jags D, as I said, but I want to see another step forward. I know statistically they're at the bottom of the pile. I think they rank 32nd overall, but I do believe it's a stiffer challenge than the Panthers. This isn't the Texans and this isn't the Titans, but I think this will be a little bit bigger challenge for the Bears offense than what we saw last week. So you got to take another step forward and look, you got to take advantage. You guys know when the getting is good, you're going to come out of the buy and you're going to get a Washington defense that's not great and a Cardinals defense that isn't great, but you're going to have to score against them. So, and then you're going to get into the meat of your schedule. So you got to make hay when it's haymaking time. So offensively, I'd love to see them take another step. Tommy, we don't have any audio, but we've been reading quotes from the UK as you were flu spoke, also Kevin Warren spoke and Ryan Pol spoke. But as far as the stadium will circle back to our stadium conversation, Kevin Warren continues to be steadfast on trying to build a stadium with a lake front. And just like, it's just baffling to me. I am bum-fuzzled that he continues to think about trying to build a lake front. When you've got this property in on tonight, it's right there. Don't you want Bear Town? Bear Town? Well said, his quote, Tommy, was that the benefits of being in the city of Chicago and he hopes to break ground in 2025 outweigh the 326 acres in Northern Fin Heights. In what way? They just have access to the downtown area. I mean, I guess being on the lake front, the museum campus. Yeah, I still expect to break ground next year. I've always felt like you guys that the best option was Arlington Heights, but I've also told you guys all the time that there is an obsession with getting this done on the lake front. And I don't know that they're, as you can tell, I don't think that they're willing to let go of that dream. I'm with you guys. I can envision a Bearadise in Arlington Heights. I drive by that property every now and again, and it is vast. Obviously, it's huge and just the potential that it holds. And look, I just, I don't think that unless they come in and decide that they want to take on a significantly larger portion of the cost, the Bears, that is, I don't think the deal ever gets done downtown. I just think it's too big of an ask at this time with all of the other issues going on in the city and the state that I don't know that Kevin Warren's dream is going to come true downtown unless they adjust what they're willing to take on in terms of the financial responsibility. See, Cap, as a politician in this spot, I know that he's not a politician Warren, but the whole thing is it's got to, you have to middle it. I mean, if you want to appease Mayor Johnson and you want to appease Arlington Heights, you can't say definitively, you know what? We're going to try to get this done on the lake front because when it doesn't happen and it blows up in your face, then what's up with you and your status? You know what I'm saying? Like, because he's only one track minded when it comes to the stadium deal. I think Jonathan, and again, this is repetitive for me because I know I've told this to you guys a bunch. I think he is absolutely shocked with the lack of continuity that exists and willingness to work together that exists between the city and the state politicians because I think if you ask and going back to when Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota got together to put that beautiful stadium together, they were on the same page. You guys know this better than I. I didn't get here till 89. You guys have lived here your entire life. When was the last time the city and the state actually worked together? Way before that. Yeah. So. Big Jim Thompson. I don't think that. Maybe. I think he's more than surprised that there isn't this willingness to kind of get this project done. And guys, like, even if you got the state involved, then, you know, again, you guys would know this better than me. You got friends of the park and all kinds of other things and hoops to jump through. And he's always talked, Kevin's always talked about. And I appreciate his dream. He's always talked about sooner rather than later because the longer you put this off, the cost goes up dramatically. And I just, I mean, you think they're going to put shovels in the ground in 2025? Boy, that seems like a huge long shot. If you look into downtown. I do not. I'll be surprised. Here's your choices. Here's Baradise, something that you own. You do whatever you want to do with your property. Say at the lakefront, don't touch that column. You a hole. I mean, seriously, seriously, that's what you want. You can't dig there, but why not? It's not well, it's not your property. So you rather have that. I'm a friend of the parks. Well, in the concept of it, it's going to create jobs. Like Arlington Heights is in Cook County last time I checked. That's correct. So like, if you could create jobs downtown, that's great. If you create jobs in Arlington Heights, that's also great. So it's not like, well, we either build it downtown or no jobs are going to be created. No, if you go to Arlington Heights, there's going to be thousands of job opportunities there as well. So yeah, it's the good thing is, is I don't think that he's, you know, I think he's been very transparent about this. You know, he hasn't hidden in any way, shape, or form. This has been his desire to do this. And he has been steadfast with wanting to find a way to make it work. It just doesn't feel like they're getting any cooperation with their vision versus what the state wants to do. If they come back and say, hey, listen, okay, this is really important to us. We've got a partner will take on 80% of the cost, then maybe it gets done. But currently, even with their offer of taking on what is it, two, two and a half billion. I don't think I don't think that at this day and age, you think that, you know, Pritzker wants to take on giving a, you know, a billionaire entity of two and a half billion dollar loan. I just, I do not see it. All right, we'll have more with Tommy. Hey, Tommy, we want to talk Caleb Williams after this quick time out. Truth of the matter is you're listening to Captain Jay Hood on ESPN 1000 weekdays, seven to 10 a.m., but it'll last a lifetime. It may only be three hours a day, but it'll last you a lifetime. It is a waddle Wednesday on the Captain Jay Hood morning show on the ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Have you had a question about Caleb Williams? I'll tell you what, getting better and better each week. I did, Tom. As I watched the film and I watched the different angles that we're privy to when we get that NFL game pass subscription, the second touchdown to DJ Moore, when he drops back, you see the man in motion, you see Caleb's eyes lock on the right side of the field and at the top, if you freeze it and then run it again, you see the safety bite and he goes hustling over there to try and think I got to get Keenan Allen right there on a deep, I think that was a deep slant. And then Caleb quickly turns his head back. And from one of the angles, you can almost see him smile and then you hear him screaming, yes, because gotcha, there goes the safety throw over the top. Perfect ball, great catch. Yeah, I mean, that's one of those plays where everyone deserves credit for because it's obviously good scouting because you're looking for them to, well, you're looking for them to acknowledge the tendency that you're expecting. So, yeah, I mean, I don't thought it was an excellent play call. They had trips to the right or at least you send Cole Comette over in, I don't know if it was motion, but you shift before the ball snap. So, now you got everyone over to the right side. I do believe they had, they had swift, you know, kind of in the backfield, but on the left of Caleb Williams, but what you wanted to do is you wanted to flood the right side of the field and see what they would do. And they came out and they, you couldn't tell if it was cover three zone or it was cover, you know, one with man with a single high safety. But what you wanted to do is you wanted to create the opportunity if they gave you the coverage that you wanted to hit DJ on the backside skinny post. And they got the coverage they wanted. I thought the play call was good. I love motion. I love shifting because it helps young quarterbacks. It helps all quarterbacks to define what coverage is that you're going to get. And it gives you just a little, you know, insight into what's going to happen before the ball snap or when the ball snap. And as soon as it is snapped, you see the safety Caleb looks in to the right. Safety is already drifting over to the side of the multiple receivers and he turns his hips. And once you, Caleb is still looking to the side, that side. Once he turns his hips, you know, you got him and you just hold it for an extra half a click. DJ does a really nice job not getting pushed in on his route. He runs a tight stem straight up, leans on his corner, it creates some space and then Caleb threw a beautiful ball. That's what it's supposed to look like. Like when you sit in the meetings on Wednesday and you go, you're doing install and you're like, okay, these are the tendencies we see inside the 50 yard line. These are the coverages that they like to play when we send motion. This is how it's going to look. We're going to try to run this play and it doesn't always happen like that on Sundays. Sometimes it does. That's an example of you scouted them correctly. You called the play correctly and then you executed the play correctly. And when you do that, it's a thing of beauty. Uh, you can do right now, uh, have this bet with, uh, with cap regarding the, uh, cubs and the Reds now that Terry Francona is in place. Oh, I owe him a hundred bucks as Reds manager. You do. You could do double or nothing with Terry Francona in the mix. But here's a guy here that was not, well, feels better now. Marty Brennan of all people talked him into the job. They, he brought him together cap. He brought the Reds ownership and Terry together. So here's a guy here that can manage the ball club and he stuck his beak in there. And now Terry Francona is the manager of the Red. That's going to be a better ball club. Yes. I hope Marty continues to talk to them and tells the owner to spend some money and add some free agents. I know they've got some talent. Yes. And I know that Terry Francona will help develop that talent, but they don't spend a dime. So if Marty's, you know, still out there willing to have a conversation with Reds, ownership, tell them to spend some money. Don't do what the small market teams are doing. It makes me sick to my stomach. Watching the pirates do what they did to rowdy teles. And that was horrific. And for people that don't know, he was four at bats short of getting his bonus of 250 grand. And they said, how many at bat four? That's one game. Release them. And he's been in the league for a long time, right? Yeah. It's shameful. Shameful. It's absolutely shameful. So I'm thinking Cubs 83 wins last year or this past season since 90, 77. So you're going to give me six and a half runs or six and a half games? You only gave me one game this year. Oh, we play it even. It's Terry Francona. That's an 80 plus win ball club now. Yeah, really? 100 percent. Terry Francona? Oh, come on. People were trying to sell us that the Craig Council was going to do the same thing with the Cubs and what happened. The manager can only do so much, Jonathan. You know that. But you, but he tightens the screws on the Reds, though. That's the thing. That's what he is in there for. He's good. All right. Yeah, but if you're tightening screws into balls of wood, the wood just cracks. It's no way to talk about Dilla Cruz that way. What? That's that way. You can't play every position. So I was surprised, though, Cap. I was too, but he took it. Yeah. So my question for you, Tommy, are we betting another 100? Yeah, sure. Why not? Okay. And then just bring me the 100 next time I go. I should have given it to you last night. I had it too. I never have cash and I had cash on me. I completely forgot. We'll get it done. Double or nothing. I like it. Hey, have a great day, man. You guys as well. We appreciate you. Don't forget about the Reds, okay? Because that runner slowed in the second base. It has red foot and red baseball. Can you guys keep showing our trouble the rest of the day, too? Yeah, I don't know what happened there. Just like, I don't know where just doing like sly comedy. It is like, I'm still laughing. It was good. It was good, man. I had a day teach dad in Northwestern. I mean, I got it. I got it. I don't thunder, clatter, boom, boom, boom. My God. I love rubbing and touching my meat. What would Dave have it say? He would not like that. David, what did he say? Dave, and it would say, and there's a field goal, and the Wildcats are down 28 to three. Back at it. Mm. Keep listening. And we're back at it. Dad, we've got a chance. Mm. Turn it up. Looks like they're driving. It's going up. We talk about the Chicago Bears. Interesting numbers on Caleb Williams. Does it give you optimism? Two minutes. Captain Jay Hood. Love the brother next to you.
