Mike Moore media. I'm checking in with our friends in reeds will and on our media line now I have Montana Brown who is director of marketing and economic development for the city of read so hey Montana how you doing I'm doing great Mike how are you doing this beautiful morning oh it is a beautiful morning indeed a beautiful fall morning and all the fall decorations are up just coming through downtown reads for the other day absolutely wonderful everything does look so nice great photo ops for sure without a doubt it's it's been a huge success I got to give all the credit to miss a summer our city manager misses summer more as it was really through her vision and you know public works in our public works director Josh back really helped make it a reality yeah you're exactly right and I was gonna take some getting used to saying summer more instead of wouldard now isn't it but you handle it quite well okay I'd like to pause every time I go to stay and it's like wait yeah process it sure yeah congratulations to her on her recent marriage okay so bring us up to date what's going on around around the city yes sir so I appreciate you having me on this morning you know as we mentioned in this ball so that is our busiest time of the year as far as events that are happening throughout the city yeah as many people know we have our fab fest which stands for food art in brew happening on Saturday October 19th so we think this is gonna be our biggest year yet we have over 65 artists and vendors registered over 15 food trucks and just events that are gonna be happening all throughout the day there's gonna be a DJ in the morning live music in the afternoon and it's gonna be capped off by the band of odds from 5 to 7 p.m. at Market Square so if you're looking for something to do October 19th from 11 to 7 or 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. we would love to see you out there it's gonna be a great time again food art breweries I don't know if I mentioned there's gonna be four breweries out there so it's gonna be Lucky City Brewery pig pounder as well as Reynolds Brewing I believe they're out of eating and the chamber will be hosting their beer kit Wow what a day that's going to be so the fab festival and that is a couple of Saturdays away the 19th in in downtown regional that's gonna be a great event yes or it is coming up quick but we are super excited for it next actually coming up this Friday our parks and rec are hosting a movie at Lake Readsville and that's gonna start at 8 p.m. they are showing the new Disney movie inside out too so you know families are welcome bring blankets bring chairs bring snacks we'll love to see you there I will say that it is a phenomenal movie I've seen it several times already and I give it a 10 out of 10 yeah okay very good review yeah yes sir moving on we have our downtown trick or treat event from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday October 25th followed by a showing of Hotel Transylvania 2 at 6 45 p.m. at market square again we encourage you to bring blankets and chairs dress up in costume all the merchants downtown well I will tell you all for many of the merchants downtown and many of the city departments are gonna be down on scale street we're gonna have the streets blocked off we're gonna be handing out quite literally a turn of Canada yeah always fun you know these movies I like the one at Lake Readsville the one that you just mentioned there during a trick or treat time those are always fun those outdoor movies aren't they all without a doubt I mean and it brings back just kind of for any of our listeners that have ever been into a drop in movie it kind of gives that same feel you know there's nothing like being able to watch a movie with the crisp fall air and the stars overhead to me it beats the movie theaters 10 out of 10 that's it you're exactly right about that yeah wonderful okay yes sir just keep it pushing I know your time is valuable another Halloween event this is hosted by our parks and recs team is Camp Scary Woods at Lake Readsville this is going to be on October 26th from 6 p.m. to 930 p.m. this is a Halloween themed haunted trail it actually may not be suitable for children under 10 but this has been a huge success in years past our parks and rec team takes a lot of pride in this event and I'm excited to be able to see it for my first time so all the events I mentioned are free except for Camp Scary Woods is gonna be $5 per car so essentially you'll pay when you're parking additionally that might they're also going to be showing another movie I like Readsville I'm gonna start at 7 45 p.m. and that's going to be the new Ghostbusters Frozen Empire movie oh wow okay yes sir funny stuff going on yeah there really is and you know Camp Scary Woods you mentioned just $5 so it's kind of like the July 4th Independence Day celebration there so $5 pack the car full and bring them in oh yeah the more the merrier we would love to see out there we encourage people to wear costumes as well it's gonna be a ton of fun okay very good thanks yes sir and something I'm sure you've heard about Mike is the Readsville Chambers everything Expo that's taking place on Thursday October 24th from 2 to 7 p.m. this year the city of Readsville is going to be the where the event venue sponsors essentially as this will be taking place at the pin house this is a health fair business Expo is career fair all-in-one it's the 15th year in the road of the Readsville Chambers host of this event you know it should be a pretty huge turnout should be a great place for people to come and learn things all about Readsville what businesses are here who's hiring I believe there's also going to be a place for people to get flu vaccinations there as well so a little bit of a one-stop shot from October 24th 2 to 7 p.m. at the pin house and it will be nice to have that in that new venue there too want it so that's gonna be good oh without a doubt so this year realistically it's gonna start in the greenhouse people are gonna work their week away through the historic pin house so you know at the same time it's a great way to be able to see the venue itself and then from there we'll be directing people through the garden out to the new Carriage House building where there will be more vendors there too yeah gonna be a ton of goodies people are gonna be given out flag left and right and you really that's that's part of your job description you oversee all of those things that are happening there the pin house as well yes sir I do along with our penthouse manager mrs. Emerald Stone you know day she really does today the day today operations and she is magnificent at what she does if you know shameless plug here if you're looking for a place to host a birthday party a baby shower or a place to get married or even an engagement party the pin houses the place to be it's you're going to be pressed to find such a beautiful venue at such a fair price yeah yeah and that that is just a wonderful event destination there for sure the pin house yeah yes sir okay staying on topic with the pin house we are already in the process of planning a holiday market there which are going to be taken place on December 7th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this event has been a huge hit in years past and we just started reaching out to vendors and we already have 55 plus that have signed up over the last week so this is going to be the ultimate place for people to come see all the Christmas decorations in the pin house as well to buy all your new Christmas gifts for your friends and family so the more the merrier we would love you guys to come out this is another free event for people to come and enjoy yeah yeah I love that event I've been and a wife and I've been it and that's yeah that that'll that'll get you in the holiday spirit for sure if that doesn't I don't know what you're right yeah okay what's next yes sir so I want to speak on this briefly this city is in the process of collecting donations through Thursday October 10th in partnership with Rockingham County on behalf of victims from Hurricane Huiin that that passed through this last week and a half just want to say that you know again we're collecting donations through October 10th being swinged by City Hall drop off you know canned goods suits plows clean supplies clothes pet supplies things of that nature you can find a supply list listed on our Facebook page as well as on the market square sign you know the community's done a tremendous job we've already received several truckloads and it's just you know it's gonna take the region really to help put these areas back together and to take care of our own saying on topic with that as well one to plug that the regional reefers are hosting a hurricane relief benefit game on Saturday November 2nd at Rockingham Community College tickets are $10 at 50% of those ticket sales will be donated to the Red Cross for Hurricane relief as well children 11 and under are admitted for free so the city is also partnering with the regional reefers for this event we would love to see the community come out and support them as well as support our neighbors out there out west as well that's exactly right wow it's it's just weeks and months and years to recover from that it's an awful situation but you've learned quickly I'm sure Montana in your time here in Rockingham County that people in this county care and they step up and City of Reed's role and county wide to help whenever they can that's for sure all without a doubt I've learned very quickly and I would say regional really embodies that the team reads Phil branding I've not met a stranger yet people have been very warm and welcoming to me people are always willing to lend the hand and it shows through through events like this as well just blessed to be a part of this community and you know to be able to work with so many caring people sure well we're glad to have you here that's for sure anything else a couple other things I just wanted to shout out so the farmers market is still taking place at Market Square that's Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this will be going on through October 26th which will be the last day for the season so please come out support the local farmers support your local artisans stop in and get your produce for the week it is a great time they're great people and it's a beautiful venue we're planning on doing some revamps next year so this will be the end of the farmers market as people currently know it but there's going to be some improvements new and improved and we're going to go all out for it next year and last but certainly not least I wanted to talk briefly about the depot district more specifically Los Amdell Avenue School so the city will soon be releasing an RFQ to replace the roof at Los Amdell Avenue School to follow North Carolina procurement guidelines this will be posted online as well as in the newspaper so we can try to give as many fair quotes as we can that way we can potentially have it allocated by the end of the year and see some progress on that building yeah what a great project that is though that the depot district isn't it yes sir I think there's unlimited potential and you know developers and people that I brought around town they're really buying into the vision and we've you know actually luckily already got that first domino the fall as we do have a developer currently working on some residential units there believe it's going to be a 16-year department complex and it's going to be a essentially a business incubator co-working space as well so that'll be the first step once we get this this RFQ out we hope to you know stay blogs out Los Amdell Avenue School building and take some take some more steps forward okay always always great to check in with you thanks Montana for the good update and about good things happening in the reads fall I appreciate that best way
