We're going to see the latest on the two most recent elections in Europe, and what it all means, what appears to be a very real political paradigm, Chef, happening right before our very eyes. After eight years of socialist rule, the nation of Portugal has officially turned to the political right. The winner of yesterday's national elections was the center-right Democrat Alliance, which came in first with about 30% of the vote, but the real winner of the night was the astonishing rise of the nationalist populist party known as Chega. It's an astonishing surge. This once obscure party that's barely five years old, came in at a strong third with 20% of the vote just behind the socialist. All told, the center-right has garnered the majority vote needed for Portugal to take its place among the rising nationalist right nations that are beginning to dominate European politics. But that said, we really need to appreciate just how stunning yesterday's results were in Portugal. The nationalist populist party known as Chega, which means enough in Portuguese, is a very, very new party. And it's only about five years old, who's founded back in 2019, and it's founding itself with significant in that it marked the end of Portugal's drought of so-called far-right politics, right? As you know, especially if you've been a follower of this channel for some time, a new right wing has been surging throughout Europe over the last 10 years, a nationalist populist right wing that's seen a 300% increase in popularity and presence during that time. But the one exception to that rule was Portugal. Portugal, over the previous decade, simply never had any political movements considered to be far-right or radical, right? That is until 2019. That's when the popular former sports commentator by the name of Andre Ventura founded the populist political party Chega, and it quickly began to garner the attention to Portuguese, who had thus far felt left out of the growing backlash against liberal globalism, otherwise taking place all over Europe. Now, Chega's support began small clocking, and it's just 1% that founding year, but they quickly began to surge in popularity, garnering 5% of the vote in 2020 elections and then winning 7.4% of the vote the following year. But now to the astonishment of pundit and politician alike, Chega's now officially the third largest party in the whole of Portugal, garnering 19% of the vote a near 300% increase. Now, we saw it coming back in May of last year. They were hitting 15% support in the polls, but now they're clocking in around 20%. I mean, it's a total game-changer gang. They're literally just five or six points away from being the number one party in Portugal. They now control upwards of 50 to 230 seats in the Portuguese parliament, again, an absolutely stunning surge in support. Now, the critical question in all of this is whether the center-right party, the Democratic Alliance, is going to form a coalition with Chega, all right? Because Chega took voters from both the center-right and center-left parties. In many respects, they have all the political power right now. They're basically in the position of kingmaker, no other party in the Portuguese parliament could do anything without Chega's backing. The problem here, like we've seen in a number of other parliaments across Europe, is that no other party, no centrist party, is willing to coalition with Chega because they're supposedly too far-right, radical-right. You can coalition with the far left all you want, but never, ever, ever, ever the far-right, right? So very similar to what we've been seeing in the Netherlands. Ever since Geert Wilders and the Dutch Freedom Party's astonishing win there, back in November, they have yet to form a coalition government because all the centrist-right parties are refusing to work with them because you have far-right there. And so far in Portugal, the leadership and the center-right Democratic Alliance is saying that they will continue to refuse to coalition with Chega. But as analysts are noting, it's most likely a very thin refusal to simply put, because of the surge in support for the so-called far-right in Portugal, there's nothing that the center-right Democratic Alliance can do without them. They only secure at 30% of the total vote in parliament. The center-less socialists have already said they're not going to work with the Democratic Alliance, the center-right party. They're not going to form a coalition with them. So the only choice they have is to align themselves with Chega. I mean, there's just no way around that. Chega's 20% of seats is the key to a governing majority. Without it, the Democratic Alliance basically cannot do anything. So I think we're safe in assuming that the same thing that we've seen in Sweden and Austria and other nations where the centrist parties originally refused to align themselves with the growing so-called far-right. They eventually did so. And I think you're going to see the same thing in Portugal as well, which means that we're now seeing yet another nationalist-right coalition in the making, which are now governing nations like Sweden and Finland and Italy and Switzerland, of course, Viktor Orban's Hungary. But we had yet another massive political earthquake that rocked Europe over the weekend. And this one involves a major conservative backlash in a nation that's been going woke over the last few years. You're going to absolutely love this. In a stunning blow to their ruling establishment, voters in the nation of Ireland took to the polls in a dual referendum on Friday and overwhelmingly rejected their government's attempts to change their constitution to a radically woke far-left document. The liberal Irish government proposed two amendments that would change the meaning of the words women and family to be far more inclusive of alternative lifestyles and transgender identities. A massive conservative backlash flooded the polling stations, serving the liberal establishment a humiliating loss. With all the votes tallied, the proposals rejected by 70% of the vote. It was a stunning repudiation. With a far-left establishment that sees the leadership position of all three major parties in Irish politics. The leaders of every single party supported these woke changes as well as all the prominent members of Irish cultural institutions in entertainment. The fact that this dual referendum went down in flames in such a dramatic fashion exemplifies the theme that we talk about often on this channel. The significant and growing cultural gap or chasm between the people and their political cultural elite. British scholar Matthew Goodwin found out recently that upwards of 70% of Europeans overall believe that their government and their politicians rule in accordance with their own values, interest, and concerns at the expense of the values, interests, and concerns of the people. For example, while surveys consistently show that the vast majority of Brits believe that immigration is often detrimental to society, less than 20% of British politicians thought the same way. There is, in survey after survey, a clear, increasingly unbridgeable gulf between the values, interests, and concerns of the political and cultural elite versus the values, interests, and concerns of the people. And that gap is beginning to reveal itself more and more throughout the continent of Europe. Take a look at this. More and more headlines are recognizing that the populist riot is actually poised to win a majority of seats in the European parliamentary elections coming up this summer. Now, if you don't know 2024 is the year of elections across Europe for the EU Parliament. Already the legacy meet is freaking out at all the polls that show that not only are populist anti-EU forces surging, but they may indeed end up winning the single biggest block of all the coalitions in the European Parliament. I mean, it's that serious if you're pro-davos, pro-buzzles, Brussels globalists. The situation is at dire. And what we just witnessed over the weekend is a further indication that the populist riot uprising throughout Europe may just be getting started.
