Listen to this message from Ted Delacath, former army infantrymen and Ranger qualified platoon leader active in the army reserves. When I enlisted in the army, I swore an oath to this country, not any political party. That's why I'm interested in citizens ballot measures around the country to reduce the power of political parties. Colorado votes on one too. Right now, election rules allow political insiders to hand pick party nominees. It's the reason we're usually stuck voting for the lesser of two evils. Colorado's plan creates an open primary where all candidates appear on one primary ballot. Every voter has the freedom to vote for any candidate, no matter which party. The Colorado plan advances four candidates to the general election, not two. That means more choices for voters in the primary and general election. Get the facts. Elections belong to the voters, not political parties. Paid for by veterans for all voters, Anthony Haas registered agent. The use of military rank and job titles is not in plan endorsement by the Department of the Army or the Department of Defense of this ballot measure. (upbeat music) - What's going on everybody? As always, I am one of the hosts of this show, Michael Ritter. You can find me on X at Michael5Ritter. - Sup, Mike. - Or on Instagram at MichaelRitter5. What's up, Terry? - I think you're up there. - Joining me on this episode, my humble co-host, student of the game. Hey, young Terrence Minnefield, how are we doing? - Dude, I'm doing good, better than a couple of other days, these past couple of days. But it's just been really tired but rejuvenated, ready for another preview show. Funky sinking for tuning in for another one. Yeah, ready to get into this Thursday night preview show, man. - The digital match up. - Yeah. - I was a little bit thrown off. - You were confused a little bit. - I thought that my computer was lying to me. I thought that it was the Jets and Bills, but that's the Monday night game. So I got the Monday night and the Thursday night game confused this week. So it's going to be the Seattle Seahawks hosting. - Yes, the San Francisco 49ers. That's going to be the game we're previewing on this episode. I mean, I'm going to be honest, I was kind of looking forward to talking about that other game just because of the juicy aspects. But hey, I'm happy for the Jets. They got a little bit more time to figure their ish out. - Yeah, they got the big ish too. - Jeff Ulbrich, though, we can go ahead and talk this really quickly about it. I will say, you know, this is some of them. - Interim head coach. - He was the linebacker's coach for the Dan Quinn era Falcons. - Oh, yeah. - So a lot of people think whenever inevitably he gets fired at the end of the season and the Jets bring in a new coach. Is he going to go to Washington, you know, join Dan Quinn's staff? Could he possibly go to San Francisco? Do you want Kyle Shanahan? Maybe come back to Atlanta because Reheem Morris is here who they were also on the same staff with. So there is a lot of familiarity amongst, you know, other coaches in the league. You know, whenever you're talking about, obviously these guys getting fired like Robert Salah, kind of the same thing you could expect. Tim, you could go back to San Francisco, maybe go to Miami since Mike McDaniel's there. - Yeah, I don't think he's out of a job. I don't think it was, you know, him coaching his way out of, you know, New Jersey. - Yeah, Salah is going to land on his feet. He's just not going to get a head coaching gig. - Right. - Not yet. - Yeah, he coaches way back up. - I could see it being similar to like an Arthur Smith type of situation where you know he gets an offensive coordinator job in Pittsburgh. People think maybe if he can do something good, he'll get another opportunity to be a head coach. - Be able to his resume back up. - Some people are just better being a coordinator, you know. - Nothing wrong with that. - Robert Salah might be that guy. He might be a perfect defensive coordinator, one of the most elite defensive coordinators. And he could take the Jim Schwartz route, you know, just go back to being a defensive coordinator. - He's nothing wrong with that. - You know, you can have one of the better defenses in Philadelphia and then you end up going to Cleveland, just in, you know, referencing Jim Schwartz and kind of what he's done. - So Robert Salah, I think he will end on his feet, but it's just going to be a matter of time before he gets a job. I don't know if he's going to coach again in 2024. - Yeah, he'll be out of, here we got a job this year. - You're going to be getting paid for a couple years, probably by the Jets, you know. So, and I don't know for sure what his contract situation was set up like, but either way, you know, I think that. - He'd be living good for a minute. - He's good for this, for sure. So take advantage of that. But we're going to talk about an NFC match up, you know, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers. - Yeah. - From a point in time, if you saw this match up on the schedule on a Thursday night, you were clearing your plans. - You were licking your chops. - You knew that you wanted to be in front of that television just watching, you know, when it had the likes of the Legion of Boom, Marshawn Lynch, a young Russell Wilson. You got Colin Kaepernick with Vernon Davis and Frank Gore. - Yeah, that offense was crazy. - And that phenomenal defense with Willis and Bowman and the safeties with Sean Goldstein, Dante Whitner, Alden Smith, Russian, the passer man. That was a phenomenal defense back then. But now you fast forward to 2024, instead of 2014, and it's a little bit different. Now you brought Purdy in at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers and Geno Smith, who currently leads the NFL in passing yard, going head to head in prime time. And I'm kind of curious here, right? The 49ers have lost, I believe they're 0 and 2 now, to the NFC West. - I believe so. - So this is another, 'cause the Rams beat 'em and the Cardinals beat 'em. - And the Cardinals came back. - Well, but then they split with the Cardinals for, I'm trying to think. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I feel like they've already played each other twice. - I'm on it. - The 49ers and the Cardinals. So, clearly the 49ers are not perfect or they're not unbeatable, especially by their division rivals. I mean, Kyle and Murray had a nice performance last week. Luckily, Geno Smith isn't really a mobile quarterback, so you don't have to worry about a 45-yard touchdown run being put on you. - So they beat the Jets, they beat the, they're lost at Vikings, beat the Rams, or loss of the Rams, beat us, loss of the 49ers, or loss of the Cardinals. - Okay, so they are 0 and 2 in the division. - Yeah, 0 and 2 in the division. - It's not good. - Yeah. - You clearly don't want to be 0 and 2, you definitely don't want to be 0 and 3, especially going on the road to face a team that's gonna take care. - Pretty much do what the Indiana Pacers do. They're just gonna hit you with offense. Just throw up shots like crazy, very fast paced. You know, Smith's gonna throw the ball like crazy. That's why he leads the league in passing right now, is 'cause they have a very high volume of it. They throw the ball a lot. So you don't expect a lot of that for sure. - And what got them in the hole last week really, was when they let Collar started opening up downfield, letting him throw and letting him, big chunks at play after play after play. So if they sit back at let Geno, just sit back there in the pocket, no pressure like they got on Collar, they're gonna have a hard time to fucking defend the Seahawks offense. - Yeah, and I just have a feeling that the 49ers defense is gonna be, I guess focus would be a way to describe it. In terms of stopping DK Metcalfe's gonna have a lot of attention pointed directly in that way. So that tells me somebody like Jackson, Smith and J-Book could have a pretty big game in this one. Maybe even Kenneth Walker just looking at, you know what James Conner was able to do in the second half against the 49ers last week. Maybe the Seattle Seahawks can kind of pick up on that, now that he's starting to get more and more healthy. And you can kind of just poke holes, but you do expect to see the 49ers run the ball as well. Talked about it, Tre Mason, having a phenomenal start to his season, the most rushing yards to five games in 49er history. So you think that probably he's gonna start inching his way into other records like that, like six games and seven games and eight games starts to roll on until we see a 1500 yard season from the kid and we wonder, hmm, are the 49ers making a mistake paying all this money to Christian McCaffrey? The conversations and those types of topics just present themselves. It's something you see coming from a mile away though, you know, I just personally feel like, you know Kyle Shanahan is this type of player or this type of coach, I should say, where he develops players. We saw Alfred Morris come from San Francisco. - Here after year, after year, after year. - Fourth round pick, I believe it was in Atlanta. He just, I mean, it is what it is. This is a guy that gets a lot from a little. And that's why you can see this 49ers team be so good is because they're able to pay a lot of money to a lot of really good players. And get production from people who are on rookie contracts. It's a formula that does not go out of style, it doesn't expire. - He always finds the tellbacks. - That's going to stand the test of time. So if you can thrive in those aspects and those areas of the game, then I really think you're going to be on the way to some success. - For sure, you get those, you get rookie deals. You get a lot of rookie deals that actually pan out, like they do at quarterback here too, you know, it saves you time. It saves you a lot of effort into having the negotiations for your big players and stuff like that. But yeah, I really do like, I don't think we've picked any of the teams to win. So I'm going to go with the 49ers dusting off last week, learning from a lot of their mistakes. I think the defense really slowed them down and opened up the pathway for them to rally back and to win the Cardinals to win last week. So when you have Fred Warner on your defense, I really have faith in correcting a lot of mistakes and really showing how you can make up for what ill performance you did last week. So I have faith in the 49er games, reconstructing what they did last week and coming in to Seattle and coming away with a victory. - I am going to be in lockstep with you there. - Nice. - I just have faith in the 49ers and I kind of got a little bit salty on the Seahawks whenever they played the Detroit Lions and they just had, in my personal opinion, an awful game plan, which is go out there and just throw the ball 90% of the time. I hate unbalanced football. - Me too, Doug. - It's ugly. I'm like, I'm never going to compare myself to Peyton Manning by any means, but if you watch the Manning cast, he just gets disgusted with bad football period. That's kind of how I feel whenever I'm watching an offense like that. It's so air raid and pass heavy. It's fun, it's exciting, but a balanced offense is really the recipe that I'm looking for and I'm hoping that we can get that from Brock Purdy and the 49ers, get your first division win of the season. Why not on the road in Seattle against a former rival? I mean, current rival, even the division, you know. - Still, still route, yeah. - It's not as heated. It's not as, you know, intense as it once was, but. - The big names. - It's still got some juice. You know, the fans, they're still going to get up for it. - Oh yeah, no doubt. - So that gives you reason as players to show up and just-- - 12 men will show up. - And just because your season isn't on the line per se, but it's an important week six game. Like you mentioned it, we're already here in week six. We're almost at the halfway point, only a few more weeks. - Yeah, it's so crazy. So crazy. - And we're there. So these wins are starting to matter. You can't lose these games, especially divisional matchups. - Oh no, the 49ers are win or go home mode right now. They have to win out and they have to really show that the division that they're still top dog. - Yeah, because when you get beat by all three division opponents, that's just not a good look going forward.
