What time is it? It's Thursday Thursday. Tom Thayer. Thayer. 1985 Super Bowl Champion and Football Analyst for the Chicago Bears. Heat to win the division. Win the division, get into a playoffs. Former offensive lineman. Do they need to get better? Do they need to give up less sacks? Yes. Of course. Tom Thayer. Tom Thayer. It's Thayer Thursday on Captain J. Hood, ESPN Chicago. Good morning, Chicago, and welcome into the Captain J. Hood Morning Show. On ESPN 1000, and we are streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you, we've got Kevin, and we've got Jay Moore. We've got you. Here on this Thayer Thursday, it's time to go to the hotline. That'd be the car ex-tire, not a hotline, Johnny. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. Gross! Don't worry about the car ex-tire. Let's go to London, England. A man who would be calling the game with Jeff. Johnny Act, the Bears and the Jaguars, 8.30 kick. Sunday morning right here on the home of the Bears, ESPN 1000. The great Tom Thayer joins us here on Captain J. Hood. Tom, good morning, how are you? Johnny, good morning to you. Good afternoon to me. How are you doing? You're long distance, but you sound good, Tommy. You sound good, long distance. Well, I feel good. It's been an interesting week here. And this is my fourth time in London. I've played games in Sweden and Germany and Ireland. But I think this is the first week that it's really felt like a training camp week. The Bears are staying out in the middle of the country. Their practice fields are attached to their hotel. And it's more of the development of the camaraderie. It's only the team. It's only the staff. And so I think these guys have a chance to kind of regroup mid-season and rekindle some of the friendships that they miss out at when they're at home and they have their family and other requirements right on top of them. So in all of my time coming here, it's probably really benefited them to be ready for play on Sunday that they're not going to be kind of the jet laggy type feeling that you do when you come out here for three days. So my guy, as you watch this team go through things and we talked about the Caleb second touchdown right before the half where he did a great job looking the safety over to the right. And bam, gotcha. And he went down the middle. As you watch the development of the quarterback and you watch practice, where are you on Caleb today? You know, I really like what Caleb has been doing at the line of scrimmage and whether it's the up tempo pace of the offense where they could take advantage of what the bear's personnel against the opponent's personnel and they feel that they have an advantage. I like the variation of the at home snap count that Caleb will use. He'll go to the line of scrimmage and kind of give you some of those experienced quarterbacks where he'll start his cadence and he'll hard try to hard count you, get someone to jump, knowing that he's not really calling to play. He's just trying to make his opponents show them what what they're what they're doing, what type of defense they're going to try to show during the plate. And then backs off regroup sets the information and then goes through the cadence. And when you look at it, there's never been hurrying against the play clock. He's using that play clock to his advantage to make sure that he can read the defense, see if they're giving any of those poker tells and then calling the play accordingly. So and then kind of what DeAndre Swift has been able to do and how active he's been in the offense the last couple weeks. Now when the opponent gets ready for the bear, they say, okay, we kind of got to focus on taking DeAndre Swift out of the offense from the running game line of scrimmage to the passing game line of scrimmage and then how it affects the downfield game of the other receivers. So those building blocks for this football team, I think are going to pay dividends in the future. But I do think that it's going to be a really bear supportive crowd here and taunting him on Sunday. So he may be able to use the snap count again that you can see another week of line of scrimmage disciplined by the young quarterback. Tom, is there a certain play or set of plays that you saw from the offensive line against the Panthers in which you thought, okay, they got it. They've got a nice rhythm going for them. You know, there was a nice outside zone play that they ran to DeAndre Swift. And I think he had an 18 yard game because Cole committed a really good job of setting the edge, blocking the end man on the line of scrimmage. And then Gerald Everett and the left tackle, I keep forgetting, I forget his name all the time. Joe Braxton, they can't Braxton, Braxton Jones, for some reason, the name gets tough. Frankly, he and Braxton Jones and Gerald Everett turn the corner and let up field. And then if you look farther, a field, Coleman Shelton was leading another block along with DJ Moore. So those types of plays are super beneficial to the exterior of the offense. And even on that outside screen path, I know it's not a run, Jay Hood, but another one that the patience and the timing of the running back, the patience and the timing of the quarterback, the patience and the discipline of the offensive line, making sure they're not getting downfield. And then DeAndre Swift being able to follow behind Coleman Shelton for a 40 plus yard game. And then I guess, you know, going back and revisiting the goal line offense that they failed on in Indianapolis, and they've been able to kind of reinvent themselves by using both Doug Kramer and Karama Magaji as bigger blockers at the point of attack and with even a little bit of motion. And, you know, one thing about it is when you get into that red zone, when you get into the short yardage goal line offense, you have to have production. You got to be able to convert those types of short yardage play. So you either get touchdowns or first downs. So that has encouraged me. And I will tell you this, after Kevin Jenkins left the game, they put in Bill Murray. And I do think that Bill Murray and Matt Pryor give the Bears more of a physical presence on the inside than they had with Nate Davis and with Kevin Jenkins. And I don't know what Kevin's status is going to be going into this weekend. But I wasn't disappointed by what I saw out of Bill Murray. In terms of looking at the Jaguars and you watch a lot of tape, look, I like Trevor Lawrence. He hasn't performed at the level I thought he would when he was the top pick. But I feel like that team can make some plays in the passing game like Stafford did down the middle of the field. What concerns you about Jacksonville? You're right, Cap. You know, the middle of the field does concern me because it was your quant brisker not being here. Kevin Bayard making one of the greatest interceptions I've seen in a long time by a bear safety last week. It seems like that middle area of the Bears defense is more attackable, more inviting because there's a lot of respect for Jalen and Terique on the corner position. And if they get sturdy of enough protection and they got Mitch Morrison, Shref, the other offensive guard there that have a lot of experience and they got decent tackles and then Trevor Lawrence is six six plus, but he's turned over the balls, I think 62 times in the last few years. So he's the type of guy that he's going to take a chance and he's going to try to fit it into a tight window. Sometimes it results in an intersection. So if they can kind of formulate a plan to secure that middle area of the field a little bit better, I think Doug Peterson being a former quarterback, being with the Green Bay Packers, being with the Miami Dolphins, he understands exactly what you're seeing, Cap. That there's vulnerability in this defense. If you can hold up that interior offensive line protection, keep the quarterback some security in his spot in the backfield and take advantage of some crossing routes. And they got legit receivers. There's, you know, Evan Ingram is going to come back and play. He's only played one game this year, but he's a tight end that kind of gives him that middle area of the field opportunities. Now he's hung up the running game before and I was talking to Cap about Roshan Johnson. I mean, it starts with DeAndre Swift and he last couple of weeks, Tom, he's been playing really good football, the holes open for him and he's going through them. I wonder your overall thoughts about Roshan Johnson as a second running back. We're used to thunder and lightning in the running back room. How about Roshan Johnson, his development? Yeah, I love, I love Roshan Jhood and I don't know what you do, but I do as well. I think he gives him a real physical presence at a committed point of attack runner. I think he's a good outlet receiver. If you need to throw him an underneath pass and try to get him to convert it for a first down and I do think he's the most reliable running back blocker on a blitz pickup responsibility. So to me, I love Roshan since he's got here. You know, he stays healthy, gets more experience and he's kind of an in-between. You know, he's not as versatile as Khalil Herbert and he doesn't have the experience of the Andre Swift, but he is trending in the right direction and I do think that he can offer this offense anything on first, second or third down. And I think it was two weeks ago when he threw an under Khalil or Caleb threw an underneath pass to Roshan and he was able to convert it for significant yards beyond the first out marker and keep the drive alive. So I'm with you, Jhood. I like everything Roshan offers and offense. In terms of, we're talking with Tom Thayer, our guy here and he'll be on the call with Jeff Joniak at Tottenham Stadium in London. A trip like this, the Bears chose to go in super early. The Jags are not coming in until tonight, your thoughts. You know, I've done both and from my experiences here of being here for a week or being here for a short amount of time. So this, they're here for a week and they're out in the middle of the country and it's only the Bears. It's not a bunch of distraction of, okay, this high profile shop in the middle of London or we got to get to this restaurant or we got to try this wine bar or whatever. I like the fact that it's more of a training camp type of atmosphere and, you know, like I said, these players get to rekindle a lot of relationships because they only have each other. So what the Bears have done this year, I think it's super beneficial to be prepared on Sunday in terms of getting your body clock right, getting ready to play a game and then get right on that plane and go home after and fly right into a bye week because when you do do those three-day trips, you don't get over the jet lag and you're still a little fatigued on Sunday. And then if you want to stay overnight, I think it even creates more exhaustion because you play the game, you have kind of a get-together party night after the game is over and then everybody's coming in late and you're trying to get on a plane at 8.30 in the morning. You know, here it's man, get in the Tottenham, beat Jacksonville, get on the buses, go to the airport, get on the plane, sleep on the way home your home Sunday night and you're rolling into that bye week and I'm super encouraged by this experience differently than some of the other ones I've had in the past. What's the best meal you can have in London, Tom? Wow, that's pretty interesting. So the first night I had really good salmon that had this kind of a lemongrass pasta with it and it had brussel sprouts, which was really good. Right up by you. It's fun. Yeah. And then last night at the Bears, they had fish and chips, you know, authentic fish and chips from over here and I can't deny that that was pretty darn good itself with a salad bar that includes a couple different kinds of salad, a lot of avocado, black olives, you know, just all of it, an assortment, I'm a salad bar guy too, Jay Hood. I am so I can get like a good salad protein offered and then some vegetables and then I threw in they had cooked broccoli. So I threw in a bunch of cooked broccoli on top of my salad bar salad. Yeah, the fish and chips, not the healthiest thing. But when you're over there, no, you got to crush it. It's so good. I got, yeah, you know, that was the thing about it as I went up there and they had different offerings. They had a full taco bar and everything. I figured we're almost 8,000 miles away from Mexico. So I'm going to go with the locally bred and born cod fish and chips. Yep. I am tacos and I can have plenty of those at home that that I crave and places I love to go to. So I'm clear. So I'm clear about the chips. So are we talking? Are we talking Jay's? Is it lays? What is it? The barbecue Jay? I mean, what's that? No, it's the big old potatoes cut into pieces that are are the authentic chips and yeah, not the Jay's laser, or Doritos or anything like that. No, no, it's it's the real like potato skin type like potatoes. They cut into pieces. Dude, they're great. I'm just a kid from the south side. I'm on culture as you all know, Tom. I'm just a kid from the south side. Oh, dude, I'm a listen, come to Joliet. We're there. There's not too much between the differences of us growing up and I've been in the same house for 63 years. So you can't play that. You can't play that car. Hey, man, have a great trip. Please bring a victory home for and to and then do you have any plans for the bi week or are you around? No, I'm around. I'm around. You know, um, uh, no, I'm I'm around. So I'm here to talk to you guys. You're the best man. It's one of the highlights of our week when we get to chat with you and then you and I are going to watch some film one day. Might as well. Look forward to a cap. All right. God bless you. Cheers, Tom. Hottios. See you guys. That guy's the best man. I love that dude. I just think he's such a quality person. And I think it's a great representative for the car ex-tirant on a hotline. Rattle, rattle, thunder, bladder, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Thank you, Joan. Tom Thayer, crushing the salad bar. How about that? There you go. Yeah, the fish and chips, fish and chips. When I was going over there, I remember I was going and I bumped into Theo Epstein, they go, he's like, where are you headed to? He said, airport, I'm going to London. He's like, Oh, my favorite city. I'm like, it's the greatest. And he, I said, any tips on restaurants? He goes, let's go to a pub and crush fish and chips. It's the best. That's that, huh? It's the best. Is that the best chip or do you have a chip that's better? No, those authentic where they cut the pieces of potatoes. Yeah, that's the best. That's the best. That's the best. That's not Jay's lays. Why are we wrong with J's? Those are those are processed potato chips. This is like the real deal. Do you say that the J's and is not the real deal? That's not. That's garbage. It's garbage, really. Like compared to this? Oh, it's not. I grew up on barbecue J's cap. So God bless you. How's it garbage? Garbage, really? Yeah, it's not not not good. I don't know. Why is it not good? Was this not that healthy? It's a lot of processed crap. You don't need. We don't need no. Okay. No one needs J's potato chips. No. No one needs lays potato. Is that what it is? No one needs it. You don't need to eat that stuff. It's not good for you. Jay Moore, are you saying that that chips is chips good for you? Chips are good in a pinch? No. No, they're not good for you. Oh, really? I'll be watching you. If I see if I see you pick up a chip, I'm going to knock it out of your hands and say, "Hey, man, that's not good for you. Have you ever seen me have a chip in here?" Yes. No. I have. No shot. Poker chips. Oh, okay. Yeah. I've seen that. Those chips. Yes. I've seen it. I'd say, "I think that we should let people live how they want to live." Now you're going to tell people how to chip. And you chip how you want to chip. I'm just not going to do that. But when I was in London, I got the offense. It's not like crunchy potato chips. It's, think of a potato skin cut into pieces. It's like, and the fish, I mean, it was something I had to do. We went, it was me, Mindy, and our son Garrett. And we went to a pub and we did the whole deal and it was super freaking cool. Europe's amazing, man. Who? Oh, Europe is. Yeah. I see. So could you make chips at home if you wanted to? Oh, you could. Have you? I have not. Okay. Because. Well, I just don't. I don't need a lot of potatoes. I just don't. I have a baked potato here and there. Very good. Yeah. Is that good for you, the baked potato? I have the pens how you cook it and what do you put on it? Like, I'm not loading it up with a bunch of ingredients. I see. So just a plain baked potato. Just pull the skin back and just start. Yeah, I use a little sea salt, little pepper. Yeah, it's good. A little bit of butter. Is that a diet sea salt that you have there? What do you, how do you do that? No, it's a regular sea salt, but it's not the iodized garbage-y salt that's not healthy for you. I'm going to have to give you give me a list of things that are just garbage. Could you do that for me? 100%. Apparently, it must be a long list. I've got a stream of texts from Danny over the years. I'll just pull them all up. Just everything that's garbage. And then there's stuff that's not garbage. Correct. I need that list. I will give it to you. Is my water safe? Is that good? Yes. Very good. That garbage water? Very good. That's very good. How about a cup of coffee? That's good. Okay. Oh, that's sugar to it. No sugar. It's just coffee. Yeah. Okay. There you go. Please help me with that list of everything's garbage. All right. Is that G-more with the chips? You sold me. You lied. He said he wasn't never lied. 312-332-ESP-A-332-3776 is our phone number. Oh, Bronco's fan. You're not even relevant this week. What's he doing? Who are the Broncos play this week? The Chargers. The Broncos are going to beat the Chargers. Hey, they turn things around though, the Broncos. Seriously, they actually have turned it around. The last couple of games. All right. More of your thoughts on the Bears coming up. And also, Cap, there's some tips that Bears players need to watch out for being in the UK. We don't want any arrests. We don't want any problems. Sounds like they're way out in the country. They're not going to be any issues. Just telling you, man, there's some things that you got to look out for if you're going to be in London. We'll get to that list coming up. Let's do it. On Cap and J-hood. You're listening to Cap and J-hood. Follow the show on Instagram @thecatman and @igjhood. This is ESPN Chicago. Chicago's home for sports. Glad to have you aboard here on this Deal Breakers Thursday. 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our telephone number. Talking to you about the Bears and to the phone lines we go in Ric J's in Boise, Idaho, listening on the ESPN Chicago app. Ric, good morning. How's it going, boys? What's going on, man? How you doing? Good, good. Just another day. Yes, it is. Thursday in particular. Yes, it's Thursday. But to answer your question, Jay, that earlier, I'm optimistic about this team. Just the overall structure, you know, with the infrastructure we're building for Caleb, all the depth that we have now. I mean, it's not deep, deep, but we're slowly working and I'm thumbs up. I'm optimistic about where this team's going. Yeah, and I hope they can find a way to get a victory, get on that plane four and two. That would be massive, massive. But we'll see. I think they will. I mean, they went and knocked the Panthers in the mouth, which they need to do, you know, if they stick with that again and we'll see what happens. Meeting potatoes like you always say, Jay Hood. It is. It's just, you just, when I say meeting potatoes in Ric J, you know, what I mean by that is just do the simple things, the little things. And I know that it sounds small for us as fans, but just running the football to make the quarterback comfortable Caleb Williams, because the running game will open up the passing game, the offensive line, just two little things. And then it'll end up being what we saw this past Sunday, just the little things open up to big things. It means a lot of offense. And so that's how I'm looking for. I don't, I don't need the bears to throw it 50 times a game. I don't need that. I just need them to do the little things well first. That's it. Run the football, establish it, take your shots. Let's go and check it down when you have to. Yeah. All right, and regain the phone call, my friends. All right, kid. Have a great day out there. Boise, Idaho. You're been Idaho. I have not me either. Oh, would you like to take a road trip or would you like to go? Oh, Idaho's not at the top of the bucket. You were just talking about how much you love potatoes. That's, that's the home of potatoes. That's right. I get them here at the store. I don't have to go to Idaho to get them right to the source cap. Get them fresh off the vine. I don't stick, you have to stick my head up a butcher's. You know what? Well, that's a very good point there. Right. I never thought of it that way by the steak at the butcher shop. But, but, but I think what Kevin is saying is if you want the freshest potatoes, you go to the place that they manufactured or manufactured in Boise, you see, they're grown. Yes, manufactured. Wow. What do you mean? They're grown? Yes. Well, how do they ground cap these days? You never know. Let's be honest. Right. AI potato. I'm just saying, if you got an AI Rogers, Robert Sella was getting in my way, you know, that you might have AI potato soup. Crazy. Just just saying. Ryan Polls is a general manager for the Chicago Bears. Talked about, here's the thing. See how Polls are going to circle back. He said in the pregame show a few weeks ago, like, it's just about execution. The offensive line just has to work together. We have had no complaints about the offensive line as a whole last couple of weeks. Polls comes in there, straightened in the UK says, yeah, it's been a little up and down there. But I think, you know, I think it was Brad that asking the question in the beginning of the season was about the old line. And I said, I was really happy with the depth that we've had. And that's shown up. And there's guys like prior who are looking for opportunities and they stepped in there and done a really good job. And again, with Caleb, really making sure he's got depth to the pocket. He's been able to set the pocket and create some movement in the run game. So we've been happy there. And that's part of building a roster. It's my job and our front office's job is to create competition. And I think Matt has done a really good job there. And they have some things he can continue to work on. And so there you go. He comes in and is like, yeah, it's been up and down. But look at my offensive line now. Look at my depth. Huh. That's it. See that? I'll bet you he takes an offensive lineman with one of those first three picks of the two in the second round and the first round pick. No question. At least one. Because I know that he's not a dope. Correct. He's not when these guys got a lot of your face and just like, no, we're fine. It's fine. He knows it's not fine. He knows it. The reason why I know that without hyperbole is look at how you've been able to fill these holes on the depth chart last couple of years. He knows, Cap. 100%. But he looks at us like, you know, and I think this offensive line will be good enough as I keep trying to build this thing. I think it's good enough. And it was not good early. Wasn't and he still got to work on it. He got hired less than three years ago. And he's turned this thing around magnificently. It was January of 2022 when he got hired. Yes. A mess. Yes. And so he tells George McCasky, he's like, look, I like your team. But I don't love your team. I need to get rid of some of these high price guys. Yeah. We're going to tear it down. That's exactly right. That's it. So Cap, some of the bears and the bears personnel have to watch out for some of the rules and regulations in the UK. We are going to discuss that coming up next Tracy Butler with the weekend weather. Also, Cap and I go ahead hurricane update, right? Yes. We are very concerned about what's happening with the hurricane and the weather activity in Florida. Correct. So we have, I have family, my brother and them that have homes down there. And I have other family that live there full time. So it's a scary time. Very worried. It's scary time. So we'll talk to Tracy about that this half hour coming up as well on the Cap and J Good morning show. Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitch at ESPN 1000 Chicago. Captain Jay Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. It's a Cap and Jay Hood morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Glad to have you in today here on this deal breakers Thursday. Okay. Cap, while the bears are playing in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars, you know, Jeff Miller's his fantasy football show starts at 5 a.m. on Sunday. 5 a.m. Wow, holy smokes. When he was with us, he couldn't get here that early. He was always a struggle with his West Coast. Anyway, I always be like, Mallor, let's go. His West Coast baseball habits. Yes. But so it starts at five. And then the pregame cover starts at six. It's an 830 kick Sunday morning right here on ESPN 1000. Yeah, I'm excited. Absolutely excited going to make a good big breakfast and watch football. Can't wait. While the bears are in the UK, there's some things they need to be aware of because we don't want any incidents. For instance, did you know that's an offense in the UK? You know, you can't beat or shake your carpet in the UK that they have some something going on where they have a loose carpet in the hotel. It's illegal to beat or shake your carpet. It's an offense to beat or shake your carpet or rug in the street in London, according to the police. I did not know that. I wonder why that would be. Not saying that the bears would go over to Scotland. It is part of the UK. But for some reason, under Scott's law, it was rumored that it was illegal in Scotland for a boy under the age of 10 to see a naked mannequin. Yeah, in Scotland. Yeah. That's not that's not the that's not the key part of this. I know that you and me as kids went to the department store. Yeah. What was the name of that place? Goldblatt. Yes. And you I mean, it's your it's your mom taking you. You're just there to give jeans or whatever. And you you know, you saunter over to the women's section and there might be a naked mannequin there. Because I haven't put the clothes on the figure yet. Yeah, but it's not like you've got the body parts like you have a cup of fill as a kid. It's sick bastard. Of course we did. Of course. Yes, it's a so a kid is not supposed to see a naked mannequin or that parent gets arrested. Please go to the department store. You know, there's still setting up stuff. How's a kid supposed to know? You know, also the bears have to be worried of this. Walk cows down the street. It is illegal to walk cows down the street in daylight in the UK. So who has a pet cow that you'd take on a walk? Is that a thing? I guess if you're way out in the country, maybe where the bears are staying. You can't be in that area. Yeah, possibly. Also, you have cannot be drunk. Now, this is something. It says you cannot be drunk in the pub. It's actually illegal to be found drunk in the pub as mentioned to section 12 of the licensing act. I mean, that's all they do. Soccer hooligans, football fans? Correct. They obviously don't enforce that part of the code. Of course, you're going to be drunk in the pub. Not everybody, but some are going to get, you know, their beer. Their beer is not like I like a cold beer. Yeah, their beer is much warmer. Did they not have ice? That's the way they drink their pints. Yeah. Warm beer? It's warm. Yeah, not saying it's hot. Is it like room temperature then? That sucks too. Yeah, I'm not a huge beer guy. But when you're over there, yeah, they they have stouts, they have porters, they have a bitter, mild brown ale, old ale. That's the way they do it there. It's not like it is here. Warm beer. Kevin, how would that work? Well, I think it depends on the type of beer. I think if it's a stout, it may be room temperature or a little warmer. But I think if you're getting like an ale, I think that would be chilled. Hmm. Well, I'm sure like you as a red-blooded America, you like to have it chilled, correct? Yeah, yeah, a little, not too cold, but chilled. Yes. Yeah. Warm beer though, like right out of the can, that stinks. Unacceptable. Yeah, you can't have that. Levels of alcohol consumption amongst young people in England today, significantly lower than previous generations, leading to the rise in popularity of lower alcohol and even alcohol-free beers. So they've switched to weed? I don't think weed's legal there. I'm just saying like if it's not, it's not drinking beer, then what is it? What's the vice? You know, there are some, like I'll give you an example, Cap. I'll just use me as an example. My, my dad was a heavy drinker. I have to, we talked about this before. Yeah. Like on Saturdays and Sundays, you knew where the party was on the block because go to the hood's household because they're playing Stevie Wonder Records. You can hear through the speakers, through the house, you can hear all the way down the block. You know where the party was, it was the hood's house. Cousins, uncles, everyone's coming in to the basement and you know, after you've worked five days a week, it's time to unwind. And you got family coming over there and yeah, it wasn't, it wasn't him behind the wheel, it was just him on the couch or at the bar that he made in the basement, just drinking. And so, but it was always cold. That's, that's one thing. It's always cold, but here's the thing. I could never reach how he could drink. My dad, absolutely not. I know you look at me as like, wow, this guy can drink like, compared to him, no shot. Absolutely not. Him, old manhood, there's no, like, it's night and day. Right. You couldn't keep up. No, like I, I do, you know me, I can drink. There's no question, but not like him. And I watched him for years. I'm like, no, I'll drink, but I can't be at that level. Yeah, I, I was having this discussion, I think, with Danny. I just, what's that? If you told me I could never have another drink again, it would not, I would not go crazy. Yeah, that's fair. Same. But, I mean, you're watching sports or you with family, whatever, having a little celebration, I didn't run with that. There were two rules to remember if you want to have a good time. Rule number one, never run out of Colt 45. Rule number two, never forget. Rule number one. I love Billy, man. Thank you very much. Cheer in the United States has served roughly between 38 and 55 degrees. Darker beers are served warmer as our stronger beers, but most beers are served around 38 to 40 degrees. In the UK, temperature of beer, typical British cast beer is served at 55 degrees. So it's much warmer. Yeah, I don't know if marijuana is legal in the UK. I don't know. A couple of things that the beers have to watch out for while they're in the UK. And it's something I haven't seen in years. You tell me if it's been in your area cap. In the UK, you are not allowed to fly a kite in public, according to the police act. You can't fly a kite. Really? It's right here. Can I fly a kite in public? Well, can I ask you a question? If you don't, if you fly a kite, isn't always in public? It's in the sky. Like somebody could see it always. So but you can't fly a kite in public or you get arrested. We used to buy like you put the little kit together when your kids all the time to the park and run and try and get it up in the sky. Yeah, I've not seen that in years, but the box kites and you had a regular kite. Yeah. Anyone in your neighborhood doing that anymore? No, I haven't seen one in years. That's why the good Lord made drones. I guess exactly. I guess that's the case. By the way, cannabis is widely used, but it's an illegal drug in the UK. So there you go. And lastly, Cap, one thing that the bears have to look out for, the plank of wood, according to the police district, it's illegal to carry a plank of wood along a pavement unless it is being loaded to or unloaded from a vehicle. You just can't walk along with a two by four. So you can't go to the lumberyard by a two by four and go, I'm gonna carry it home. Yeah, can't do it. Silver? So ridiculous, right? The ridiculous rules and regulations of the UK. Are you careful bears? All right, we will find out what's happening with the not only weather here in the Chicago area, but also in Florida with Tracy Butler. That is next on Cap and Jay Hood. Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN1000. Cap and Jay Hood are back on ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. Now time for the Cap and Jay Hood cut of the day. We're off to my Chicago cuts. Take house. Do more. Yes, it's boring, but it's a sport. Whatever. It's not boring. Okay, then you're boring. All right. Do you instruct the bartenders to not serve your in-laws alcohol at the wedding or is that on the line? How about a limit? You can't do that. You can have a talk with them and say, hey, you know, we go out a lot with you guys. We love you dearly. We're gonna be family here. I can't have you getting drunk at the wedding. I'm asking you nicely, please, can we keep the behavior under control? You can't go to the bartender and go, I'm gonna put a limit on them. You're not their parent. What did you try to say? When you meet, I can't get drunk at the wedding. You can't get drunk at the wedding. Why? Because you make a scene. What kind of scene? I'm here to support the family. Or you're just having a good time. I don't know that. You've embarrassed us at times in restaurants. I've embarrassed you. You embarrassed me. Take that. How about that? You know, good son of a bitch. I do not embarrass the family. Where's my north face? Has anyone seen my jacket right in the north face? Has anyone had my jacket? Take that. And that's all, folks. The Captain J who cut of the day. It's Chicago Cut Steakhouse. Cut of the day, bro. To you by our guys, David Flamm, Matt Moore, Chicago Cut Steakhouse, on the south north side of Chicago River. We turn now to Tracy Butler from ABC 7 Eyewitness News. She's with us here with the latest on Chicago weather and also what's happening with Milton. Good morning, Tracy. There you go. Oh, oh. Did I jump the cue? Is that what happened? No. That's on me. All right. If I do in the show at Afghanistan with him being at Afghanistan, of course, the eight take it away. Boy, we have a lot to talk about. I mean, whether temperature's in London, the game time's probably going to be around 50 degrees. But here at home, of course, we have the Chicago Marathon this week. Yeah. Have you guys watched? There's a lot of folks coming past the windows here. Yeah, I've been taking pictures out in this middle of the street. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, today in the 70s, tomorrow we get the 80s. But for any of those marathoners, they're not going to want temperatures in the 80s and they will not get them on Sunday. I think Sunday's going to be rather windy. I think when they're getting ready and on your mark, get set go, it's probably going to be about 58, 60 degrees to start the marathon. So, at least it's not, you know, 80s for that. Is it how it starts, Tracy? I don't know. The marks get set. Is that swimming? I don't know what that is. Yes. Exactly. Get set. Go runners ready. Is that what it is? You can tell I've never done a marathon. Is that what it is? Is there a get set there, Cap, as well? Come on. Get set. Go. Ready. Set. Go. Tracy is brought to you by ComEd Solar. Go to ComEd.com/solar. Yeah. Okay. So then, Hurricane Milton's still a hurricane. It is in the Atlantic right now, pulling away from Florida. It ripped the roof off the Tampa Bay race stadium. That's amazing. Amazing. You think of the power of that and what is seems to be in unprecedented with this one is the number of tornadoes it's spawned. I mean, we typically will get some spin up tornadoes from a hurricane once it makes landfall. But right now, the weather service combined there, the office is there. This may be the biggest tornado outbreak Florida has ever had. And we're not just talking some small spin up EF1s, EF0s. There may be some EF3s and higher with yesterday with these tornadoes. So far, I believe they've confirmed at least 30 actual tornadoes. They're going to be evaluating for who knows how long. But that's part of the reason you're seeing such extensive damage with this. It's, again, unprecedented. And Milton has ended up being the strongest. If you look at the millibars, and if you look at the pressure and all of that, probably the second most powerful hurricane since 2005 Wilma. When you talk about multiple tornadoes, the tornado activity, it's all at the same time, different ones at the same time. Yes. Yes. So multiple twisters everywhere. Yes. Yes. I mean, the number of tornado warnings that kept coming out consecutively, some in the same in some counties. And you usually don't see these giant wedge tornadoes in a situation like that. And we were seeing that yesterday. So on top of the storm surge, on top of the hurricane force winds, on top of the flash flooding, you and around Tampa, some areas had almost 20 inches of rain. On top of all that, then you have all these tornadoes and most places in Florida don't have basements. Yeah. Correct. You know. So I got a question. I was doing some reading. We have seeded clouds at times to explain that to me. Yes. Yes. Cause rain, right? To cause rain. And they certainly, you know, they, they do that in the deserts. They will do that in the deserts. So there's nothing you could do to intercept it, to intercept a hurricane. I'm not saying stop it, but to slow it. We certainly haven't seen anything that's helped it yet. And my concern is the water in the Gulf is so warm. Look how many Gulf hurricanes we have had this year. Five. Great. That's, that's a lot. And they've been pretty powerful. Look at Helene, look at Milton, just nice. Oh, your ice cubes in here with Berlin, Debbie. Yeah. Ice cubes. There you go. Sure. It's going to take a lot of ice. Cool. Look down. All right. You're taking a prayer for everybody. Yeah. My brother is a home down there. I got that. My wife's uncle lives down there. He's in Tampa. I was actually supposed to go to Fort Myers Beach this week. Oh, wow. A number of reasons stopped that, but yeah. I think they need coverage. I need to get you down there. Get down there, which are seven mike. That's okay. Show them what's going on. I'd love to hear you toss to me there. I don't know if the tornadoes are coming to Chicago, Tracey. We thank you so much for being with us here at Captain Jay Hood, a football Friday tomorrow. So long, everybody. Take that from Chicago.
