For three hour ride here on this Deal Breakers Thursday. We open full lines for you at 312-332-3776. That is our telephone number. And cap, we are counting the hours, the minutes, the days to the bears taking on, the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Our coverage is all day on Sunday. The kick is at 8.30 in the morning on Sunday, right here on the home of the Bears, ESPN 1000. And I love that the bears are in the UK. I like some of the video and the audio I've heard so far from the Bears in London because, okay, it's a pressure cooker here in Chicago. As you well know, the press is there in Lake Forest, talking to the Bears, but I've seen various interviews on different platforms, NFL network, podcast, ESPN Chicago, where the Bears, it's not like they're 100% comfortable, but they're just more at ease because they're in a different land. They're just out there and they're just comfortable. And I'm glad that some of the stuff internally is starting to reveal itself as far as the working of the Bears and some of the personalities that we're watching every day with this Bears team. - I feel like they are on the precipice of taking a very big step. Does that mean they're beating Jacksonville? No, I'm not talking about short-term. I'm talking about a more macro look that Caleb Williams has taken significant steps. Anybody that watches the Bears, if you don't see growth and improvement from what we saw the past several years between Jay, to Mitch, to Justin, and see this guy and think, that's our future? I can't help you then. And that is not a personal shot at anybody that's no longer here. Period, it's just not. Justin was a good guy, great athlete. He'll be fine in the league. I want more than fine. I want to chase greatness. And this kid has a chance to achieve what we've never, ever seen here. And it just feels like the vibe around this team is really, really good. - The first five games that we've seen from Caleb Williams has been very, very important because it's just all about growth. That's the only thing that you look at for any rookie, not just the rookie quarterback, but for any rookie, you're looking to be able to have growth. No one steps onto the field and is great in the first game or the first season because what you want is for the player like Caleb Williams or any other rookie, just to be comfortable out there, growing from the first game to where we are right now. No matter the opponent, the offense looks better. Caleb talks about those first five games and why that's such an important factor for him and his growth. - Yeah, I think it's been great. I think it's, you know, these five games have been really important for me. The amount of ball that I've been learning and I think the progress that I've had so far only amounts to everybody else, meaning the other 10 guys and the coaches that are out there calling it, us running it. I think it starts in practice and how we've handled ourselves from that indie loss. From there, we've made jumps in practice. I'm not speaking about the game or anything like that. We've made huge jumps in practice about focus, about details. And I think that starts with our leaders that we have. - And cap, the growth is not about necessarily the numbers and the touchdowns and all that. It's about the leadership in the room as a quarterback. - In the room and on the field. And I described the play after talking with Waddle at the play the other day right before the half when he threw a dime to DJ Moore for a touchdown and that I think made it 27-7. And you went, all right, we're good. We're gonna win this game. The way he looked to safety and drew him over and then bam. Down the seam, there's no safety help. See you later, touchdown Chicago ball game. We're gonna win. - Yeah. - That is huge growth, man. Huge. Everybody there has to continue to grow. Are they as good as the Lions? I don't think they are right now. Can they get there, maybe? I just really, really love that we have a quarterback. Love it. - So along with the numbers and all of the success that we've seen, especially the last two games with the Bears and Feeding the Rams and Carolina, you've gotta be able to connect to your weapons. And one of those weapons is DJ Moore, why receiver for the Bears? He's noticed a difference in Caleb Williams from game one to now. He says that this guy right now, Caleb Williams, he's bossy. - That's amazing. - He's taking those strides that he needs to. He's been bossy lately, telling us that we need to be on the details. We really do for him to be the best player he needs to be. So, but yeah, I think that's it. He's been a leader. So, what I mean by bossy is, we don't hit something in practice. He's gonna tell us how we need to run it, this, that, and we just look at him and be like, okay. And then when we get out there on the game, you just better make sure it works 'cause he's gonna have some words for you if you don't. So, that's him being a leader. He's a little bossy. No, he's still a little bro, so. - That's what you want. (mumbling) - Yeah, you do want to see that. Like I said, he's like little bro. So, he's like looking at him like, dude, don't be talking to me like that. But it's like, but I understand, 'cause we need to really connect on that. And that's what we did this past week. So, I took his advice. Now listen, you know what I'm saying? Older bro had to take a back seat for a second. - Hit little bro, call him, he's bossy. - I loved it. I loved hearing that he's bossy. Because that's what we need. 'Cause the famous story is that Jim McMahon, when he went into the huddle for the first time as the Bears quarterback in a regular season game, member Avelini was starting. - Yes, good number seven. - Yes. - That Jim got in the huddle and guys are all talking of bargaining, he goes, shut the F up from this moment on, it's my huddle. Nobody speaks in here. Me, he's got it. - Whoa. And Jim McCollum, okay. - That's crazy. But I love that. And he's pretty much saying that yes, he is bossy. - Actually, I think it might have been Noah Jackson. - One of them. ♪ I'm bossy ♪ - That's it. - Wow. - Yeah. - If any guy take control like that, that's what Caleb's doing. - Imagine if he was just a wallflower and the quarterback overwhelmed by the amount of veterans on the team. - Excuse me, could we maybe run this? - What? - Oh God. - No. - You can't do that, you cannot have that position without balls. You gotta have balls. - Correct. - You've gotta have the to stick your fortitude, to stick your beak in there and tell a player when he's wrong. It's just, it's just about sports, it's business, it's just about being a good teammate. You just have to say it, Cap. As a good teammate. - I love that, we'll play it again today. I love that, Cap. - I thought it was awesome. - But then D.J. Moore says, "Little bro is talking to me, I'm big brother." And he's like, - Don't be talking to me like that. - I'm positive. - You can't, that's what he's saying. - And then he said, "Big bro, I had to take back seat for a second." - Dean, this is the position. This is what you have to do. You gotta be, how else can you grow, Cap? Now about your fantasy football numbers, it's not about, it's about how the team can get better. - Right. - He can't be less than. He's a rookie, yes, but he can't be less than. Everyone's gotta be on the same page, on the same level and respect it. - We're great. - Gotta be respected. - That's our leader right there. And I remember, I told you this, I ran into Major Wright, remember him? - Major Wright. - Safety. - 21. - I ran into him at the East Bank, he was with Jerry Zuma. - Zuma. - And I said something about Cutler, he goes, "You guys just in the media, you just don't get it." He goes, "J's not a horrible person." He goes, "We just look at him and go, ain't following that dude." He's like, "He's not a leader." He goes, "Till we get a guy where we go. I'm following that guy. That's the problem. We haven't had one. Guys liked Mitch, nice guy. He wasn't good enough. So are they going, "I'm following that dude?" No. - Yeah. - They liked Justin, he wasn't good enough. It's okay. So, we might have our guy now. You know, Bears fans cap can be really picky. Sometimes leveling on pessimism, being pessimistic versus being optimistic. I think that you and I are optimistic about the bears, only just based on the depth charts, how things are going in the right direction, momentum is going their way, a couple of wins in a row. But you know, I know that there's, I don't know if you feel it like I feel it on the show every morning, but just based on our listeners, people on our social media, there's this level of wait and see. Wait and see. And so, I don't know how you can have this level of wait and see, and make your big bold opinion in January. Cap, it's about now. You have to make a decision now, if there's a Bears fan, do you feel like this team can be a team that can be a playoff team, or go further than they did last year? I think that they can, just based on the roster composition. I just think that when we look at, if we had a yellow pad, like this one in front of me, and we drew a line in the middle of it, and I'd say, what are the positives, and what are the negatives, or the question marks about the Bears? The positives would outweigh the negatives. You just don't want the negatives to overwhelm this team. Like we talk all the time about how the offensive lines get up on the same page, or Matt Eber Flus and some of his picadillos when it comes to not being able to understand time and score. Little things like that. Taking a time out before a two point conversion. Little things like that. All I'm saying is, is that if you draw a line down the middle, you would say this team's got more momentum on the positive side than the negative side. Would you agree? Oh, a hundred percent. Hundred percent. Hundred percent. Now you've got three picks in the top two rounds next year. Currently. Got to add more to the offensive line. That has got to be paramount. Paramount. But again, he's going to, and he's told us a billion times. I sat with him, Paul's, this summer. And I said, you have three really good picks next year. He said, and I'm going to take the best guy on the board, whatever he plays. I hope to God, that's an offensive line. Don't smart the room. I mean, everyone, how many people here were calling us his first draft? They wanted George Pickens. They wanted an old lineman. They wanted whoever. Chase Claypool at the time. They took, they ended up taking, they took Brisker and Gordon. I'm glad we had them. It was odd because they built the outside of the home. They, well, they built the secondary before the offensive line. Because he said, I'm taking the two best guys on my board, and that's who they are. And it worked out. Those were the right picks. So unfortunately, Brisker out this week. It's all right. This is one you build infrastructure. It's Hicks, right? That's going to be the starter in this place. Looks like Elijah Hicks will get the start. You'll see a large dose of Jonathan Owens. Okay, that's fine. Others on that secondary can make big time plays. Splash plays. Yep. If it's not, if it's not going to be Brisker, okay, there's Gordon, and there's Johnson, and there's Tyrek Stevenson and so many others that can really make a difference in that secondary. So it's all good. Yep, correct. So again, you got to get pressure on the quarterback. You've got to. You've got to get pressure. And if they can, Billings and Dexter, Demarcus Walker, at some point, they're going to have to help on those guys if they're getting beat all the time, and that will free sweat up to do more because he's taking on double teams right now. So let's ask this question. I like to let's take the pulse of the Bear fan this morning. Kevin, let's open the phone lines at 312-332-ESPN-332-3776 as our phone number, Bears fans. As you drive to work, as you listen to the show wherever you are right now, I want to ask this question. Cap and I want to find out from you how you feel about the Bears this morning. That might change tomorrow, might change after Sunday's game, but how you feel right now currently about the Bears. Is it wait and see? Is it more pessimism or is it optimism for this Bears team? Because some, Cap, the reason why we ask the question is, some are taking the last couple of wins away from the Bears. Yeah, only Rams are banged up, the Panthers are good. I don't care. I watch the game with my eyes, and I see what my quarterback's doing. Again, they might lose to Jacksonville. It wouldn't be stunning. I hope they win. They should win, they're better, but it could happen. Yes. But I look at my quarterback, I go, you got our guy. We're good. Yeah, it's okay to be positive about a Chicago sports team. Yes. I just want to make sure I understand who I should major league baseball playoffs last couple of nights, and there's no doubt at those levels. There's no Cubs or Sox there. We understand that the NHL has started, and we also understand that there's no chance for the Blackhawks to be a playoff team this year. Bulls clinging to maybe eighth or ninth spot. But the point is, Cap, is that with the Bears, it's okay to be optimistic. It's okay to feel, because you don't want to be left behind on the bandwagon. Yeah, because the other four teams are, the Cubs are okay. Sox are horrible, Bulls are in rebuild, and the Blackhawks are in a rebuild. It is what it is, man. It's pathetic that this is the state of Chicago sports. Pathetic. It is, it is. We got two New York teams in the playoffs in baseball. Can John Middleton, the Phillies owner, who's now going to go out spending more money to try and fix what they missed on? Yeah. At least they get in. Yeah, so, so let's just get the pulse of the Bears fan this morning. 3-1-2-3-3-2, ESPN is our phone number. As we talk to you about the Bears' optimism, pessimism. How do you feel right now? And by the way, listen, if you are still waiting to see, we want to talk to you about that as well. It's early in the season, yes. You got to take a one-game at a time. However, there's momentum with this Bears team. And we're talking to you about it here on the home of the Bears, Cap and Jay Hood. This is Cap and Jay Hood. They beat the traffic commute, so you don't have to. [MUSIC] It's a Cap and Jay Hood morning show on ESPN 1,000, and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. You're hoping that you're going to have a great Thursday. It's a Deal Breakers Thursday here on Cap and Jay Hood. We will have Deal Breakers coming away at 835. Ultimately, Cap, we're just bringing our on-the-street conversation on the air that we talk to Bears fans. They stop us all the time. It's a grocery store in the streets, whenever asking the question, so what do you think of the Bears? I get that you get this all the time. UPS driver comes to the house, and of course, you know what happens at my house all the time, because the doorbell rings. At least I know the doorbell rings. I know it works at least three times a day, because of the amount of boxes that come in to the house. Amazon UPS guy knows who we are. He sees the package, Jonathan Hood. Jay Hood, right? Yeah, that's me. Yeah. What do you think of the Bears? Well, I think that we're going to win. I'm going to close the door because the flies are coming in. But thanks. Yeah, have a good day. It's funny that you interact with your UPS driver, because I was walking our new puppy Maverick, and we had a UPS driver for years. Huge socks, man. And he once said to me, he's like, yeah, love you guys on the air. I'm more of a hood guy. I'm a socks guy. I'm like, OK, I'll tell him that. I think I told you. We got a new guy. He's coming through. He stops. Hey, that was great this morning. He listens while he's not driving. And he's like, can I give the puppy a treat? He carries dog treats in the UPS truck. That's cool. Like dog cookies? Yes. And I see the box. I'm like, those things are OK for him. He's like, oh, yeah. He goes, you got it. Bam. He's like, my buddy now. Yes. Smart guy. Yes, so you and I vibe with the UPS driver. Well, just because they're they take care of us. So we take care of them. Yeah, I feel like I married Jeff Bezos's wife. Oh, my God. So at least I know the doorbell works because it rings a lot. And the guy is like asking me what about the bears. And so ultimately, we're asking you what about the bears as a bears fan? It's not kept like every year we come in here marching in saying, yep, this is going to be the year. Yep, this is going to be the year. Because if they were terrible, we would tell you that they're terrible. We would tell you there's no reason for optimism. But it is different. It is different. If you just flew into Chicago, you became a bears fan this year, you think, oh, well, maybe it's maybe they're going to win. Maybe they won't know. If you're armed with the knowledge of knowing what bears football has been for years and how bereft it has been as far as getting quality talent and a front office appeal, all this stuff. I mean, it's been like this for a long time. But things have changed over there. Now, here's the thing. They have not won the, been in the playoffs. They have not won the playoffs in this regime. So that's the next step. You won games, but can you get to the postseason? That's a big question. It is. This is a huge, huge question. And this is a game you got to win. Now again, it's not a must win. This is a game you need though. If you're going to be taking seriously, as we were talking with Kevin before the show, if you're going to be taken seriously, this is a game you got to find a way to win. Find a way? And just keep being what I know every year, every day, right? Every time they play, you can only be one to know this week. Yes. And I had, oh God, would you just clear it out? Sorry. Harry, I've been busy. Hello, my baby, hello, my honey, hello, my raccoon. So have you been drinking again? No, not a drop. Because usually that gurgle cups from a little wine. Yeah, I have not had any wine. I haven't had any booze. Nothing. All right. In several days, that's true. That's it's Monday, but go right ahead. Here's the fact that the matter is you can only get to want to know each week. That's it. And I was talking with my neighbor again the other day, and he gets all panicky. Oh, right. Just awful. I mean, people listen to with headphones. You understand that, right? I do. Oh, my-- The allergies have been kicking in. I understand. Oh, God bless you. I know. So my neighbor's gone. We don't win this game, and then we get the break, and then you're usually a little flat after the break, and then we get Washington, and then he's like, this could spiral. I'm like, would you stop? Yeah, I can't live life like that, man. Dude, they're three and two. They've won a couple in a row. They've won eight in a row at home. Just stop. Yes. Please. The trend is in the right direction. Just one play at a time. Let's go out. Let's see if we can beat Jackson, Bill. We're just taking your pulse as a Bears fan of how you feel about the team. 3-1-2-3-3-2, ESPN as our phone number. Logan Square, here's Terrell on ESPN 1,000. Tea, good morning. Top team. Yo, what's up, guys? It's been a while. I spoke to you guys. I hope you guys have a good Friday morning. I don't understand what you've been. I don't understand. It's Thursday, kid. It's Thursday. I've been editing. I'm a video editor, so I've been kind of in the dungeon. Yeah, I'm feeling real good about the Bears. Super good. And I'll go as far as to say, I'm thinking Caleb's going to have another 300 yard game. Peanututs, Dallas, and one of them is going to be Keenan Allen. They're going to get their first one. So you feel good about the Bears where they are right now? Very good. Yeah. Play-off good? Or just wait and see good? Oh, I'm 100% playoff good. Okay. I hope you're right. I have said, I thought they would go to the playoffs this year. But this is a game. If you're going to be taken seriously, go to playoffs, this is a game you've got to get. Yes. Yeah. No, I'm not taking the game lightly. I just feel like, you know, Caleb, he's getting it right at the right time. They'll have a nice little get right by week, you know, heal up and then come back strong against Washington. Get that dub there. Tea, we appreciate the telephone call. Now you see, he leaves line open. 3 1 2 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 is our phone number. Look at the phone lines. That's what you've done. Every line lit. Oh, yes. Lovely Glenview. Here is Matt on Captain Jay Hood. Matt. Good morning. Hey, good morning, guys. So my take is not necessarily optimistic as of right now. I'm more optimistic for the future. I kind of go back and think about the 2021, like Philadelphia Eagles or Kaitlyn Hertz is young and he didn't have the weapon, didn't necessarily have everything he needed. I'm more optimistic that we're going to fix some stuff in the off season and kind of have that boom that those Eagles did where they went 3rd, 10 3 and went to the Super Bowl. And that take that second step in Caleb's second year. I think we're going to probably go around 8 and 8, maybe 8 and 9 this year. I mean, 8, 9 or 9 and 8 this year and hopefully make the playoffs and I'm not going to be like pessimistic about the season. I still love the bears. I'm trying to teach my kids not to be the delusional Chicago fan, but I think optimism for next year is definitely higher for me than this season currently. You know what Matt, I'm glad you brought up your kids because a lot of kids and Cap and I've talked about this before, they see the angst from us, the adults as Bears fans or Chicago sports fans and they go off and they find themselves in my homes jersey or Steph Curry jersey, because they know they're in my neighborhood. They know the angst, right? Because they don't want to be like dad and granddad pissed off about Chicago sports all the time. So they just go for the stars. You got to make sure that you arm them from that Matt. They got to be locked into Chicago sports fans. Right? No, I'm trying so hard. You want to be Steph Curry for Halloween because he doesn't know what to root for for the bowl. See? Yeah. Matt, you have, that's a long sit down don't you like, I mean, but if you're a kid, you have a choice. Steph Curry, the greatest shooter we've ever seen or Zach Levine. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely pick himself. I mean, seriously. Or see if he knows who Mathis Bosellis is and that's the kid we drafted. And that might be the new cool flavor too now. Right. Like he develops like, oh yeah, Bosellis cool, he's got a chip on his shoulder, like, okay. But then those other teams are in the playoffs all the time. Right? They're on all. They're on all the commercials. Yeah. My grandson, who's three. The bottom of my home's jersey. Oh, what? And that was when we were in KC a couple of years ago. Yeah. And I said, maybe let's get that for Ben. Buy it. He doesn't want to wear anything else but that. See, that's tough, man. He sees your recaps and gets and gets sees that dad's upset when you're recording them. And then he's like, I don't want to be that mad about sports. Nope. I want the easy route. Correct. He wears Patrick Mahomeshirt, so I told you, I see Silvie's kids, now they're getting a little older and I think they are more locked in on Chicago teams. But I have Braxton hanging on my car last year. He's giving me a hard time. Yeah, he jumped up holding on the door for, yeah, he's talking trash to me. Did he say he's a Packer fan? Did one of those kids say that to you? I think it was Braxton says, Silvie's probably up listening. I think that's what Braxton said to me. But I think it was just giving me a hard time. It's like, who says that? Who says that? The troll. But his kids are hilarious. It's crazy, man. They're hilarious. 3-1-2-3-3-2-E-S-P-A-3-3-2-3-7-7-6-R-4 number. We're just measuring your pulse this morning, like how you feel. Kit, and the reason why we bring this up, there's a number of reasons. But one of the big reasons is, is that at this point in time, as Kat mentioned earlier, in Chicago sports, the Bears are our only hope. That's it. That's all we got. We're campaigning on hope. And the hope is, Kat, is that the Bears are the next team that will be a perennial playoff team. You like for all to be a playoff teams, Kat, but if it's not the Bears, whoo. This is it. Completely agree. So we're talking to you about that. If you're on hold, you will be on the air on the Captain Jacob Morning Show. Don't be talking to me like that. The Bears are playing in London. Our full coverage is Sunday. Monday morning, right here on ESPN 1000, the kick is at 8.30. Make sure you tune in to hear Jeff and Tom. We're with you until 10 o'clock, then my green bird comes in at 10, followed by Carmen Yerko at 12, Wadland Sylvie to 30 to 6.30 into Bears Weekly with Jeff and Tom. And we will join the Yankees in Royals in progress. Black Nubdala, the podcast will be available on their YouTube, youtube.com. Look for Black Nubdala. Glad to have you in today. We're talking about the Bears and just measuring your pulse on Bears football. Optimistic, pessimistic, somewhere in the middle. Let's talk about it. 3, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our phone number. We'll hear from Matt Iberfluze as well this hour right here on Captain Jay Hood. But first, we've got a beautiful Country Club Hills. Here's Earl on Captain Jay Hood. Earl, good morning. Earl, what's up, kid? Good morning, guys. Good morning. What's up? Hey, real high on the Bears, man. Real optimistic. They're kind of exactly where I expect them to be at this point in the season. Great defense. Defense is playing good. The offense, man. It's going to be crazy to expect them to come out the gates, firing all cylinders. We got a rookie quarterback, we got new receivers, takes time to jail. I see improvement each week by mid-season towards the end of the season. They're going to improve it even more. They're going to be ready for a long playoff run. I left you cap one game at a time, but I would not be surprised to see 10, 11 wins in that board in the season. I hope you're right, man. I hope you are right. Let's go. If it's not that, Earl, I don't know where the next championship is coming from or the next winning team. It's going to be a minute. Hey, you got that right. One thing I would ask you, your opinion on this, what do you, I would love to see the Bears go up to 27 year old Max Crosby, one of these picks, sure up that defense all together. Next year, all we got to do is worry about the line, every other position on team is covered. What do you think about that? If Max Crosby is available and we could get him, count me in. That guy's a monster. Sure. Can he play off? Can he play offensive line two or? Yeah, he'll play both ways. Okay. That's it. I'll definitely take that. That is for sure. As you get better, Cap, year in year in year, you know, through Ryan polls, you have to be able to look at your roster and say, I like the roster, but there's always a way to make it better. If you feel like your secondary, your defensive line and your linebackers are set, if you feel like your wide receiver room is great, if you feel like you get enough production out of your running back room, the next step is to make sure you have solidified your offensive line. Agreed. There's a half step on that because you have to protect your golden goose. And that golden goose is... I'm bossy. Is bossy. That is for sure. Justin and Dallas, Texas, listening on the ESP at Chicago app, Justin, good morning. Good morning, gentlemen, I hope all as well, I'm going to make this quick. I'm very, I'm very happy about the bed and this is coming from, as you guys know, somebody that's been hard on them in years past. And I feel like we've got a golden opportunity right now to strike while the iron is high. Essentially playing Jacksonville, they're a weak team, they've been a weak team. The only difference now is this, you know, we're going to be on across the pond. So I think Caleb is doing a phenomenal, phenomenal job. Hey, hoodie, I appreciate the restaurant recommendations. My wife and I, we brought the head to the airport a couple hours. We were supposed to go, we were supposed to go to the DR, but Hurricane Milton had other plans. So we're going to have to say Diego for my birthday tomorrow. Happy birthday. I appreciate the recommendation and it's all up. Thank you. Hey, man. Thank me later. That spot right there, where you're going to go to is romantic is cool. Is it in San Diego? Oh, yeah. So you make sure that you enjoy. Thank you. Appreciate it. All right, man. Have fun. Happy birthday. Justin and Dallas checking in leaves line open 3 1 2 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 is our telephone number. Let's go to Joey G and Melrose Park on cap and J hood as we talk bears. Joey. Good morning, Joseph. Good morning. Good morning, gentlemen. How are you? Good. What's up, kid? Um, can't put it doesn't seem like it's going to be like a greatness for next year doesn't it seem like every I'm very happy everything's coming together, but you still got the old man and he still got heber close. So I'm very optimistic when I see everything next year breaking ground in a stadium and then we're going to win the Super Bowl. You got any land in Melrose Park to put that bear stadium? Oh, yeah, you're kidding. So prequel put them right in. Would that be like where kitty land used to be or what's there now? Can't move that I remember my parents would take care of you and recognize the area anymore. It's all market now. Wow. Because I remember I said kid going to kitty land. It was the best. Mm hmm. I sent you the pictures. Yes. You did. Listen, can't you got a pen? Yeah. Tefitz, T-A-P-I-T, Trice, T-R-I-C-E. Yeah, that's a good horse. He's laying them off for the breeders' cup. All right. You brought them back. You brought them back in the summer when the classic was off a year, one by six legs. All right. I'll be right. I'll be right. Make sure you don't want it on them, Cap. All right. You got it. I'll play it. You're the man. So he's there with a cup of coffee. He's got the radio on, the actual radio. The box radio. Yep. And he's got it on AM-1000. Yep. And he's looking through the racing form. Correct. Helping. Correct. That's what he's doing, Cap. Tappet Trice is a good horse. Yes. Your coat would probably like that horse. See? He's helping you by looking through the, and says, "I got a horse for you." Trying to get you some money. That's people helping people right there. 100%. You see that? 100%. Helping with the horses. Would you see the speed people go by our window with on these scooters? With more, here's Kevin Z-Pack. Kevin? Wait, wait, wait, wait, hold on. Why? What? What are you going to be for? Well, your face is all banged up. What happened? It's just how I look. No, I... That's true. You're a handsome man. Thank you. That's a little bit of an incident on Saturday. So I had a couple of the fellas over, hoodie. We were watching the Bad Blood pay-per-view on Peacock. It was a great show. What is that? The WWE. Had their show in Atlanta. Got it. Yeah. So we decided to go out for a couple of pops after the show's over. And one of my friends that came to the house, he's got one of these scooters, right? You know, you see him all over the city, the line, the Uber scooters, or whatever. Oh, yeah. And I've been on those plenty of times. It's leisurely about 10, 15 mile per hour ride. But my buddy, I don't know where he got this thing. I got on it thinking that it would be a nice quaint journey. And this thing cranked up to 25 about faster than I ever expected. Long story short, I'm warbling out of control here. I try pulling some kind of Tony Hawk move out and trying to maintain myself and pull a stunt. I go down face first on the pavement, hit a couple of times, ripped up my shirt, arms all scarred up. It looks like the Mike Tyson thing going on the side of my face right here. Rough week. And this is about the fourth time I've had to tell the story on the air as well. So reliving my trauma has been very nice as well. Wow. You are not the **** out, man. Possibly lost consciousness. Oh my God. I've never been on one of those scooters. One of my kids has one. You bought one, but they'll have to follow up for Kevin though, don't you feel bad for Kevin? No, he made the choice to get on the scooter. That's his fault. You don't have to feel bad for me. I'm a grown man made a decision, a bad decision. I got to live with it. Are you going to ride a scooter again? Probably not that one. Not the supercharged George Jetson scooter, but I'll take one of these little lines around. It's like I said, that's a nice slow paced, easy going ride. I don't know where he got this thing. Yeah. see these people going like down State Street here lawyers yes they're like dressed up yeah they're going looks like 30 miles an hour like you like what no is too cool for that three one two three three three two ESV at three three two three seven seven six is our telephone number let's go to Manuel is on the west side he joins us here on Captain Jay Hood manny good morning hey good morning Captain Jay Hood how you guys doing this morning good brother how you doing I'm great man I'm for the best man I'm feeling I'm in a good place only thing that I see that will hold us back is the line we got it got everything got everything else and like I said before come to the key to this season was like I said it was a line for me did we get better on the defensive line is you know it's getting there we can use one more piece but like I said my concerns the offensive line we can continue have a running game balance a I think the best to make the playoffs and here's my formula for you could defend home turf go undefeated at home and go three three three in the division and they got what 11 wins right there the right there I think we can make the playoffs is all depends on though like I say it's that offensive line they can hold up and I'm glad Shane Roald and you know trying to turn around a little bit instead of running the ball east and west running off the south get up the middle let them guys our foul foul but that's the only thing that I see that will hold the bears up it's the our offensive our offensive line plate because you know Caleb he's getting better anybody with I see that he getting better you can't see it you know some role with you yeah well said buddy and you're you're talking about that offensive line and as you well know it's all it's all together the running game the offensive line the time for Caleb Williams all has to work together for in order for this office to work it has to it's got to be on a regular basis though Manning it has to happen my main thing you have to have you have to be every week you can't run the ball good for two weeks in the road and go back going about four to ten you can't do that you got to be bound I was telling them to get off the phone I told my guys of the day why do y'all think they don't have no Super Bowl they never had a run again I don't care how good the quarterback you in if you can't run the ball you're not gonna win you're exactly right the run game sets up the past game it's exactly right Shane Raleigh as the offensive coordinators got to find a way he was good when he pitched for the Astros to what he said give us a Shane Raleigh I love that remember him right Cap yeah durable Shane Raleigh Shane Raleigh was a good solid pitcher cap it is just Chicago we just grew up on just screwing up names it's all it's Harry Perry's fault it really is we did it just it's just like this what we do this is you know it's not the jewels the jewels the soldiers field it's just what we do Kaminsky Park just that street up there on the north side of the city oh God go go ok go see it's not Caleb it's cleave exactly just what we do yeah the street is actually called Gurda we don't know that it's not what we call it it's what it is Cap it's not even making fun it's just like this is who we are in Chicago is a hundred percent it's all because of Harry screwed up names for years forever three one two three three two ESPN is our phone number if you're on hold you will be on the air we're just getting your pulse of the Chicago Bears again wait and see is it pessimistic is it optimistic just getting your pulse also gonna hear from Maddie but lose the head coach for the Bears coming up next on the cap and jayhood morning show welcome back to Captain Jayhood you're officially locked it on Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago Captain Jayhood on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app talking Bears with you we've got shot a no-shot coming away to 8 o'clock deal breakers at 835 the great Tom Thayer at 9 right here on Chicago's home for sports as promised some thoughts on Maddie refluse from the UK head coach for the Bears put on the old cheaters here cap let's take a look at see what we got here all right cap the defense is playing great yeah the guys on defense that performed well you know it's a it's a really good group that we have every group is different every single year they're very close they communicate well and they've been executing well and but there's always things that we can get better at every single game and we're trying to do that that's what we're trying to do just like the rest of our football team we're just trying to get better offense defense and kicking as we go but we got a lot of guys that pay attention to detail and we have a lot of good players I mean there's some good players on that defense and that they can make some big-time plays and so the guys are doing that and playing well together cap the only thing that's keeping even flus out of the hot seat conversation is the offense here's the take offensively defensively speaking here flus has always been solid this is more than just montes what being on the team you were flus knows what he's doing as far as trying to design a defense that's aggressive we read the stat from last week about how many pressures they put on Andy Dalton the most since in a few years since the Giants each next-gen stats started the category of pressures in all night you would think that that would be Minnesota and florists but no that's ira flus in that game that we saw on Sunday against Carolina correct so so cap he knows what he's doing the offense is holding him out of the hot seat conversation the offense and as we speak right now if the offense keeps doing what they're doing then either flus you know being fired or him being a hot seat will not be a conversation because it's kind of like the solid situation with the with the Jets Sala knew what he was doing defensively with the Jets the offense sucked and Aaron Rodgers said that's enough of this we're not going in the right direction we're we're done with this and then he got fired in this situation if the offense was lagging behind there's no question we'd be going chapter in verse looking for the next coach for the Bears as much as I know may not like it Caleb Williams in the offense is holding eber flus in his job in tow would you agree with that I mean it is I mean the defense is fine he's that you lose not gonna be fired because of his defense now if he's his defense will always be solid yeah or outstanding I think the only thing that Matt he's not super involved in the offense he is to a degree but the thing that is going to bite him if he does not succeed if this team wins seven games eight games will be the in-game coaching mistakes timeout before a two-point conversion to blown challenges one that was egregious things like that last year not kicking the field goal against Denver those are the things that I think are going to add up and they go all right that we got the talent here to a really good level can we upgrade the guy making all the decisions that will be where he has to be better going forward has to be but while the offense is doing well the Bears are doing well everyone can eat everyone's doing but the defense is fine offense is getting better on the fly and eber flus we've already seen the mistakes cap this is where I was with you last year at the end of the sand say man he can't come back because of these situations we talked about last year time score egregious mistakes not understanding what's going on in a certain play not throwing the flag for a challenge and stuff like that and we've already seen a little of that this year too but the talent's gonna hold him up yeah the offense is all you have to do is look and go Caleb's working out he's gonna be fine they don't need to make a coaching change to take Caleb to the next level I don't believe at this point no but they do need to have eber flus be much better in the game management situations yeah I in year three I don't want to keep hearing him talk about how we get a clean stuff up as a coaching staff that's just that's a cop out you should be better than that you should take accountability of the team that can't happen and there will be mistakes every coach makes a mistake they're human yes but I'm talking about there's been a lot of them yes great thing like stuff that's it's like you said your son's watching the game it says dad this should happen and he refused and see it the whole coaching staff didn't see it correct come on man like you got one set coach putting up one finger I'm like what are we doing here yeah one finger you're 11 down if you score a touchdown you got to get it to eight it's eight minutes to go in a game or eight and a half the team is busting her ass you can't afford to screw up you've got to get it to a field goal there what are we doing I know I know but ultimately my point is is that things keep going in this direction and I think you you and I are on the same page as far as how optimistic we are about where the team's going you were flus is not even the conversation of coaches they're going to be looking for a job at the end of the season he's not even gonna be in the conversation agreed so you just hope that they would for him to be in that discussion yeah things would have to really get that team harmony right now with this various team keep it going all right we got shot or no shot that's in two minutes on cap and J-hood
