Mike asked the question and said about the about the bridge makes it you know makes a point here talking about the skyway bridge. And we started talking about the cause way is skyway bridge if y'all didn't catch it earlier. So and I saw this Erica said something I saw JB Piano and talked about that big bridge if you driven across it in Tampa that one is closed and I think they're closing a bunch of other bridges actually in Tampa as they're just and because already they're starting to get effects from Milton. But Mike had said you know what happens when we have a 213 foot high bridge and for the I-10 Mobile River bridge project and I got to shut it down. What about what are we going to do with the causeway was just reminded me of what Spanish Fort Mayor McMillan had talked about before. What work need to be done to the causeway not because an emergency just like that but when they start working on the Bayway project or people trying to go a free route can the causeway handle the traffic. Well Mike he's going to join us here coming up at about 135. Mayor McMillan joins us so we'll talk with him then. Ron DeSantis said she didn't call me and then Biden comes out at the same time and says oh I talked to him he's got my number I've been talking to him and he talks to FEMA and talks to the talks to the president which is your job by the way I don't care what party you're in if your job is to your state and no matter what parties in power if there's need for federal assistance then you then you make the call. with somebody say earlier and I think Jeff was talking about they said why why has this happened during election season well because election season and hurricane season run concurrently Adam this is are they staging people here to move them down to Florida or they Adam I'm interested any more info there that's that's something gene why do you think it's okay for DeSantis to disrespect Kamala it's not like you what will he do when she's a president I don't know if she can be the president or not Jean but once again go back to us said just a second ago he's not just he didn't get the call I mean texture here Sean your question about governor IV is justified we only have to look back at how she managed covid to see the difference in leadership between her and DeSantis she was closer in line to scratching my head but she does and you know and I said at the beginning and not just taking a like a sucker punch and saying she should be like DeSantis it's not it's it's not a not making that Inlet where you have a place where the water gets stacked up and she says she's fine because her boyfriend said she's fine and this dad my buddy is going hey listen to me but no we're not gonna listen she's on the view yesterday and she said she wouldn't have done anything differently than Biden did okay which is it but at the same time Biden yesterday saying well no the Santas I've talked to him talk to me and talk to FEMA so be that means to me that kind of takes away the idea that it's political and he's not going to talk to the administration we talked to the president I do feel on the Thomas from 1819 news the beginning of it we're talking about her friends that are on the way from Florida like so many Florida people have evacuated over here I guess because the damage done in the path of Helene like in Georgia but she was describing all the animals that they're bringing to her house where she already has animals and several of y'all have said hey that's like Dave and Ron at Mobile Bay Coins talking that our commercials are coming to life Ron it happened you wait long enough and everything will happen right that well said well said all right let's talk about what's happening in the world of precious metals here midweek prices on gold and silver dropped a little bit there was some profit taken by investors that's a good thing we talk about it all the time Sean you don't want metal just running up running up without a profit taking our correction because it'll just usually crash in short order so it's been a healthy climb silver is just over $30 an ounce and gold is just over $2,600 now so the people that were waiting for a correction have been coming in today and picking it up off a little bit down nothing wrong with doing that I mean get a bargain right because I don't I think 30 and 2,600 are going to be the basement of those numbers for a while so plenty of room to increase that is something to think about when I first got to buy in silver with y'all and you know 15 16 back then and now to know that you're saying 30 is probably the basement on that yeah probably for now I mean it's gonna be a long long road to Hawaii but it's been on F uh Kamala winds of Kamala winds all bets are off I mean it could be another four years of all inflation price is going up and everybody I'm sure is tired of that so hopefully that won't happen hopefully text earlier this started off of somebody making the comment oh it was Erica it talked about them shutting down the skyway bridge and Tampa if you've ever been down there very high bridge pretty bridge because the winds and then suggestion is well what if we have a you know we got this big high bridge here eventually with the Mobile River Bridge project what if they shut that down and what about the causeway and I said hey this causeway issue bigger than just that it's what's going to happen when construction starts and people try to find a alternate route and it's something that the mayor of Spanish Fort Mike McMillan's been talking about for a while thanks for your time thanks for hopping on with us thank you Sean happy to be here now this I mean it's somebody brought this up about you know shutting down bridges but this is not that's not even started your concern I mean this is more every day than that well certainly when construction starts on the Bayway and you and then long-term when the Bayway becomes a total drought people in Baldwin County Mobile County that are locals we're gonna drive on the free routes and which is the causeway it's exactly what's gonna happen but I mean we just got you know through those bull tides in September you know we have them in April and September not even any kind of tropical activity and it puts water on the causeway get a south wind of the bull tide and low pressure and I mean it's already questionable as a travel route with the traffic that's on there now you know we all have lived here on this causeway for a long time and growing up on it and hunt it and fish and all those things and yeah you get a south wind you got a bull tide it's gonna flood in some areas on the causeway to click the midway bridge area and it's gonna have to be addressed the whole causeway to have to be addressed for the whole project and after the project how we're gonna handle all the traffic that's coming that way and I had assurances from director Cooper and just this morning it had conversations without dot concerning this and they are in the process and we should have some plans for some improvements on the causeway top of the hill the bottom of the bluff coming to us in the next two to three months for us to review and look at and fine-tune until we can do to take care of the issue what you got to recognize is the limitations of the causeway I mean we got stuff in it we got something at sea level and then you can't build it up you got all the rivers coming down so you have all the bridges so you have some natural barriers there where you just can't add lanes things like that so it's gonna be a challenge there's no doubt I mean to me mayor this is up I mean a project that we've and you pointed it out what you're not new to this that we should have been working on a while ago I mean this has to happen and be completed before that work starts on the on the I-10 mobile river bridge and Bayway project and I know they're talking about it and you're talking about it but call me cynical here we sit in 2024 and they're talking about starting on the bridge in 2025 at some level how are we gonna get this done well what you got to recognize is the new footprint of the new bridge will be between the existing bayway structures so the bayway will stay open nothing will change there when they're doing the construction on the new bayway so it's not going to affect the flow on the bayways other than people watching the workers okay I mean so nothing on the air yeah so the okay and I knew that they'll be separate and they keep the bayway open but I thought maybe on the east side on the west side on the approaches there'd be issue but there's not there's not okay from the plans we've seen yeah okay you point out something right that you can't it's not like you can cut down some some trees and take some additional room on the side like you're expanded the road that's not the car you know that's on uplands so you talked about those what do you do I mean is there a question of elevating somebody was on the text line asking you know what they consider like an elevated bridge sections of the causeway to expand it that way that would be another 20 to 25 year environmental delayed project if you tried to take that route at this point you know the plans that I have spoken with without thought is improvements to the top of the hill because we've got improved the traffic flow up there at the bottom of the hill where the people from the Daphne fair hope areas are merging onto the causeway talking about adding another lane there and there's enough room to extend it across that personal bridge area so that would help a little bit and then you're gonna look at safety factors up and down the causeway and long term there are plans to put some traffic lights on the causeway specific areas particularly at mid-bait area in places like that so you know why I haven't seen a finalized plan because it's not one yet I do expect to see one in the next two to three months you know I don't you know traffic lights are always my favorite thing but it was Monday I was going down for judging the Alabama Wildlife Federation wild game cook-off and I was came off the bayway and got on the causeway and I had to take that turn to get on eastbound causeway off it was white it was a white knuckle thing and I waited I'm old enough now at 52 I'm not rushing anything but I mean like three minutes it seemed like went by I'm like I gotta go when I can go it was so yes I'd like a traffic light there yeah there there are some safety issues there that will be addressed during this whole process so opportunities abound what does it look like because I mean this might be a what you'll be facing when people start avoiding the toll on what does it look like when something happens that slows the bayway down or shuts the bayway down what's it look like in spanish fort with that traffic coming off the causeway I mean it is something that y'all probably get to see weekly or at least a couple times a month you know any time between Memorial Day Labor Day all the way in between those two holidays every weekend every Friday every Sunday is uh somewhat a traffic jam over here uh and we've been experiencing it for quite a while and waiting for relief but yeah I mean if you have an issue in the bayway we're gonna always have a problem on the causeway and so I mean I'm just reading Texas or coming in there's so there's this work is going on on the hill there's no widening you already said it but there's no widening projected on this no not on the tallest way no there'll be some traffic changes atop the hill but yes you have to be determined what that's going to be the only lane addition that I am aware of that they're talking about is that merge lane off the bottom of the bluff uh this uh text it Jesus says is there going to be on and off ramps from the causeway to the new toll bridge or bayway that is the existing plan as it's growing up at this point yes well so that I mean those places will be and do you know if that's going to be at the mid bay point or somewhere else along the route mid yeah it's going to be the same foot tramp right there so I'm not sure how they're designing it to be honest with you but there will be exits at mid bay both directions yeah I wonder you're talking about elevating and you can't have that 25 year project but just everybody knows you know the first place going to water they're the footage of a lot of the eastbound lane the southern most uh when you get that is there any way I know I sound silly here I'm not a road builder but to come in and tear up a section and put some more dirt fill and then pave over to elevate it when I say elevate it I'm just talking about you know picking up three feet or something like that or two feet is that anything that could fix that would yeah that's yeah I'm not an engineer either Sean so we'd have to let them tell us if that's possible but that's not what's been indicated to me do they give you so they you talk as of this morning so the timeline is this is going to be done well ahead of of the work or during the work on on the bayway project well they planning on doing work on the causeway here wild the bridge is being built over the river you know that's going to be the first step start the process there and as I mentioned with the new bayway being between the existing bayway spans it's not going to affect anything as far as traffic flows so it's not going to put any more traffic on the causeway than what is already there okay that yeah my gosh the question is coming in now uh will there be a way to avoid the toll from the causeway from the on-ramps to the new bridge i'm not sure i'm following the question yeah i'm at mid bay yeah i think they are they will there be a way to avoid the toll from the cause like if you i guess they're asking i'm guessing here the texture can clarify but like say i was i took the causeway to mid bay and then went to hop up on the new bridge would i be paying a toll i think you would pay a toll right yeah you yeah you would pay a toll they'll have those tag readers at those points and they'll do it that way right before we you know they won't be they won't be any toll booths or anything like that there'll be tag readers and everything else uh to do it so you don't slow down go through any toes like you used to bite at orange beach going over the totally beach express now you just check your mailbox like a you know uh back in August i took my daughter up to new york to school and uh went through all these toll and my mailbox once i got back i was like hey here's here's your plate here's your toll here's your plate here's your toll and here's another state here's your plate here i'm like how many they keep coming in so uh that's what we'll deal with here i want it before we wrap up here i do want to ask about uh set that talk to congressman carl about and i was played the audio from him uh looking uh talking to the postmaster general there uh did you wait about the uh post office in spanish fort i thought it was uh he made a great case uh to the postmaster about you know hey if you say you can't have money for this post office here i'll go find you small boys it got some property to lease and we can get the post office in there have you heard anything since then from the post office i actually uh have a meeting next week with congressman carl to discuss that very subject i've had conversations with uh congressman moor and of course our senators uh we have offered in the past over a year ago we offered old city hall we've offered to build a facility and then lease it out we've got land we've got places so i think the secretary is a little bit misled or uninformed uh those offers have been made but we will make more and we will continue to strive to get a post office mayor this is this is great information so everybody here what i just heard from the mayor that this not like there's been no work from spanish fort leadership y'all have specifically offered space to put the post office in or build the space to put the post office in and we we did that over two years ago john and i have made numerous trips to washington to meet with them uh and we just we're finally getting somewhere with it i believe so hopefully next week when i meet with congressman carl we will lay out another blueprint for where we can put things and see if they actually listen this time it shouldn't have to take y'all two years or more for the i know it's not you're doing as they're doing but i mean i can only imagine your frustration and folks there in spanish fort i mean this is silly it's silly there's my good but political word silly yeah and i'm with you you know we've been fighting this for a while it makes absolutely no sense to me the city of our size yep uh ten thousand plus and then you take the surrounding areas you can double that easily you take all the post office that we had in spanish fort which was a contract post office they had to put it in union shop by the collective bargaining agreement with the postal union and and don't give me start on the postal service because they lose eight and a half billion dollars a year so they're not doing something right right all right so i mean it is so obvious to me the daphne post office which now services spanish fort is over crowded and busting seems there's no room for growth why wouldn't you go ahead and put another one in spanish fort take pressure off of daphne you solve two problems at one time there you go and this yeah this texture i was about to say you know there's how many whistle stops in our state have got their post office and backstrap stackers says the fact that cambo alabama population 10 has a post office in spanish fort doesn't is mind boggling we on the same pewson deer rack on their on the back of their truck in a cooler strap down 365 days a year to get across that bridge and avoid the toll you know i thought about that too because i almost when i took the bevelie hillbillies loaded stuff up to my daughter's dorm we were gonna it was so much i almost put the deer rack on the back of the of the pickup and put more stuff back there and i could have avoided some tolls in addition to watch people get their tags stolen talk to a person who their friend and their tags stolen here in mobile okay and they i don't know year went by whatever uh period of time went by they got a new tag and and they started getting in the mail uh from i think brood island or somewhere up there they started getting those things like i got you know from that last ride where it's told by mail right you get the things that they hear here you are here you are pay pay pay and the person's living in mobile going i've never even been to road island but somebody stole the tag here use the tag up there so they're driving through you know whatever toll readers they have and it's the tag from alabama that's not theirs that's pinging back to the toll thing so listen that'll be when that starts happening that'll be a whole whole conversation for us on the show right it'll be a will be uh be good marty said ask the mayor uh well he's gone now mayor mcmillan if there's a fee to have your ashes spread on the causeway even in death i feel that i would rather take the causeway instead of taking the new or old bayway marty i'm with you i do take a lot of times when i'm like rushed to get somewhere which right it's sometimes kind of productive i'll stay up on the bayway but any y'all know me for a long time i grew up on that causeway and the causeway is a special place to me uh but it's uh it's going to get a lot more crowded isn't it marty what about just your ashes what about this what about we set this up and i need you to die marty like on a independence day weekend labor day memorial day when we got big traffic coming back like on a monday right uh people and they're getting off through the bayways lockdown people are getting off on the causeway and we set up a funeral pyre right there alongside the causeway right and then you're burned there in the funeral pyre on the causeway you don't you're not stuck in traffic because you've already moved on but everybody then you have the funeral pyre to morbid what looking at me what no i'm just a funeral pyre right there on the causeway gets your the belongings you're going to take to the next world they're up there on the pyre with you we can make it down home so not just we'll put some pecan wood in there too so it smokes you good i have some i mean have smoke logs make it hot but then you know put some conships on there so it smells good uh and and we'll have your funeral pyre right there on the causeway just a thought just thought a new business idea that we can burn you alongside the causeway i couldn't wait if cane is listening in our traffic department i can't imagine would it be like to have cane go now traffic slowed down right now on the causeway because somebody is being burned as they've entered into the next world with their belongings and you can stop and see them mid bay as the smoke is rising and i've been entertaining report yes i will oh and then the pat says it won't be long to alabama will make us have a front tag why don't you smear mud on that one right right paul fine balm on the way next and i will do it all again tomorrow for mid
