AP News, I'm Jackie Quinn, House Republicans are already blasting President Biden's new budget blueprint for next year, which aims to lower costs for American families. Our Sagar Megani reports. Among other things, he's pitching lower healthcare and prescription drug costs higher taxes on the rich and corporations. A fair tax code is how we invest things that make this country great. The Republican House Speaker criticized the bill as taking a reckless approach to government spending. A fiery bus crash has killed five people in Illinois. Three of the victims are school children. Their school bus crossed the center line on Illinois's Route 24 near Springfield and collided with a tractor trailer. Both of the drivers also died. A school counselors testified in the trial of James Crumbly, the father who's charged with his son opening fire at a Michigan High School in 2021. Counselor Sean Hopkins thought the parents would bring the boy home after a meeting about sketches of guns that he drew. And hours later, four students were shot and killed. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's meeting with Caribbean leaders on the violence in Haiti. State Department spokesman Matt Miller says some Americans were evacuated this past weekend. A number of embassy personnel that left over the weekend, we had additional security forces that deployed to the mission because of the security situation there. The holy month of Ramadan is underway. There are renewed calls for a ceasefire from UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. I call on political, religious and community leaders everywhere to do everything in their power to make this holy period of time for empathy, action and peace. This is AP News. That came ahead of a report on inflation Tuesday that could show how realistic the markets hopes for easier interest rates are. The S&P 500 slipped one-tenth of a percent Monday. The benchmark index is coming off just its third losing week in the last 19. The S&P is still near the all-time high it's set on Thursday. The Dow edged up 46 points, that's about one-tenth of a percent. The NASA composite fell four-tenths of a percent. The government issues its latest report on consumer prices on Tuesday. Economists expect that prices rose 3.1 percent last month. Treasury yields edged higher in the bond market. Seth Zutel in New York.
