AP News. I'm Ed Donahue. President Biden released a budget proposal that would offer tax breaks for families, lower health care costs, smaller deficits, and higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations. It's a glimpse of what would happen if the President wins and Democrats have the majority in Congress after November. This is Deputy White House Press Secretary Olivia Dalton. While President Biden is fighting for the middle class and working families, Congressional Republicans are fighting for the rich and special interests. Their records reflect that and so do their plans for the future. Meantime Congress is still working on a budget for the current fiscal year. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is meeting with Caribbean leaders in Jamaica about growing gang violence in Haiti. Here's the AP's Charles de la Desma. Young men have burned police stations, closed the main international airports, and raided the country's two biggest prisons, releasing more than 4,000 inmates, scores of people have been killed, and more than 15,000 made homeless. After fleeing neighborhoods raided by gangs, food and water are dwindling, as stands and stores selling to impoverished Haitians run out of goods. The main port in Port-au-Prince remains closed. Senators of former President Donald Trump are submitting petitions to force a recall election, targeting Wisconsin's top elected Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Voss, who angered them when he refused to impeach the official who oversaw the battleground state's elections. New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez and his wife pleaded not guilty to a new obstruction of justice charges in a New York court. The couple is charged with conspiring with three businessmen to accept bribes of gold bars, cash and a luxury car in return for the senator's help in projects pursued by the businessman. A sperm whale that became famous after beaching itself on a sandbar along Florida's Gulf Coast has died. Police and wildlife officials began trying to free the white male from the shallow sandbar off the beach in Venice yesterday morning. This is AP News. After a four-year pause, the state of Georgia will resume executions next week. Georgia halted executions in April 2021, when the state attorney general's office entered an agreement with attorneys who represent people on death row. The break was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but court proceedings still continued during this time, so people on death row continue to become eligible for executions as they exhausted their appeals. On March 20, Willie James Pie, a 59-year-old man, will be put to death in the state's first execution in four years. He was convicted of killing his former girlfriend and other crimes in 1993. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government announced rules to implement a 2019 citizenship law that excludes Muslims weeks before the Hindu nationalist leader seeks a third term in office.
