Bring Your Own Blockbuster

BYOB: Good Will Hunting

Hey Squad welcome back to BYOB. Real nostalgia injection this week as we talk about two people in particular (and without going too OTT) that have moved Jack and Ben an enormous amount over the course of their lives.

Neither of the lads have been to the cinema this week, naughty naughty, so instead we make time to pause and reflect on the life of Mathew Perry who sadly passed away. He was an enormous talent but also clearly someone who cared deeply about the wellbeing of people with addiction. The boys discuss the nature of reflecting on loss and how those who we never knew can affect us all in different ways.

Our film this week is Good Will Hunting. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver and of course, the GOAT, Robin Williams giving wonderful performances. So many lovely themes to get into as well: We talk through the idea of the head versus the heart, the way in which we have meaningful conversations, the idea of trust and safety with those around us. There's a delicate beauty in the idea of brotherhood but also in the way Robin Williams' Sean tries to reach Will. There is of course a big MVP battle and some important discussions on fine wine or war crime.

Bring Your Own Blockbuster isn’t just a film review podcast, we try our best each week to dive deep into the themes and discussions that make cinema so special - and we’d love to hear your feedback on the film. What did meet it mean to you? What did we miss? Get involved and tell us what you think on social media, you can find us everywhere at @byobpod
