- One holder? You got a phone holder? - Yeah, you got a phone holder. - Now you can tell us about it. - It was $10 and it hooks to the event so I can switch it between my wife's car and my car. 'Cause we're trying to figure cars out now with three drivers and we're trying to figure it out. So I'm in my wife's car right now and then it's an event and I don't like that it's not close up to my face but you should check and here we are. - Nice. - Well, I love all that. I definitely feel like it's so many new things in your life, new drivers, new phone holders, new step challenge. I mean, my goodness, life is good. - We're just cooking. All that's all we can do is just keep cooking. - They haven't seen Blaze's face in so long. - This year, I know it's your day. You're at a pool, you're, what was the best part of your trip? - Oh man, thanks for asking. - You know, the trip was definitely, it was good. There's just so much that goes on. I feel like transitioning into like a campsite and all that kind of stuff too. I think Lauren planned an excellent trip and I think like seeing, I think knowing that we can kind of get some of these like West Coast kind of like camping vibes on the East Coast made me really happy. And like it kind of like rivaled some things in like Oregon and I've always loved the Oregon coast. So that's how I really felt, so it was cool. And then I really enjoyed our stuff actually over. We kind of broke up the trip yesterday on the way home or we broke up the trip on the way home. We stayed overnight in a spot over in Maine, like Southern Maine and it was like incredible. So it was good to see like Northern Maine and then Southern Maine. And if anyone's kind of done any of that traveling in Maine, but I'll be now 'cause I'd love to talk more about it. And memory's made. - And see you good morning. John, how are you doing? - I'm doing all right, man. Woke up was a sore throat today. So actually in the middle of the night. So it wasn't as good of a sleep. So yeah, definitely getting sick and a stop at the drugstore and just slowed myself up with everything I can. And then drink heavy amounts of alcohol tonight and hope that tomorrow's better. - Is anyone else in your family sick? - Yeah, my son, he was sick this weekend. And as much as I tried to like keep my distance, like, you know, his main thing is hanging out and playing Roblox with me. And he likes to be like right next to me and like constantly talking to me. And like every time he wants to say something, he like literally like turns his head and just like speaks right. And I'm just like, dude, you're sick and you're just speaking into my space, like back up. And like, you know, every time I'd move to a different share, he'd follow me and it's just like, you know, it is what it is, man. Like I'll push through it. It wasn't that bad of a sickness for him. - Yeah. - So far it doesn't feel like it's gonna be that much for me. The sore throat through the night is never fun, but yeah. - I think there's a lot to hear that. - Around again. And then a lot of people are getting pneumonia right now. - Ooh. - That doesn't sound like fun. - Is there anything you guys do and like I guess the nurse in the house? Is there anything particularly that you guys do to get ready for kind of this sickness season? - I think it's always good to just load your medicine cabinet up. Like, there's nothing more annoying when you have like children's alcohol covered. So I grabbed some add though. I think it's always good to have the air horn. I just, I think vitamin C is really important. I don't have the like evidence. So like this article it says, but I think vitamin C is really important than just making sure you're moving. Especially if you get sick. Like I loved him and he was talking about how he was like getting outside, moving around. 'Cause the last thing you wanna do is stay just like in your bed for 24 hours 'cause if you have all that fluid sitting in your lungs, you're gonna feel like aren't expanding and that's a harder recovery when you start to you know, not be sick anymore, but then trying to build your lung capacity back up. - Yeah, I hear that. With, can I ask you a question about expired medications? Like expired cough medicine? Is that like it? Like I went through and I found that a lot of our stuff was expired and I tossed it. Is that something we should be worried about from a nurse's standpoint? - I was looking up online. I know that like, I mean, from textbook nurse that I am, you know, never get fired, but I know that I think there's some websites where you can see like, 'cause it's all about like, I don't know, I'm saying like, denaturing and like the effect. So I think that's like the big reason why, I mean, especially if like a medication bottle is like sitting in your medicine cabinet for like four or five years, not touched. Like things from one perspective can still go bad, but they can also lose their efficiency. - Got it, yeah. That's what I would definitely think too. I know I tossed them just because I'm like, I just, it's like the one thing I'm gonna follow. You know what there is a lot of evidence on is ginger, ginger shots in particular, in terms of helping not get sick. And then also just like, I guess like, reducing the likelihood that you're going to get the rhinobirus, but then also shorting cults when you're actually taking these ginger shots too. I'm never, I'm never huge on like these, these more like holistic kind of things, just because sometimes they end in not the best evidence, but like ginger shots have been an incredibly interesting thing to be reading about. So I've been, I see these ginger shots now sold all the time, like next to like the energy shots in like the fridge in a lot of convenience stores now. And I think I'm gonna maybe try it this season and see if it ends up helping. - Oh, I've tried, I've had them a couple of times. I'd love to do a health dad's episode one day talking about more like holistic remedies, like and talking about honey right now, ginger root. And then some of like the far-fetched one, I think I have a family member somewhere who's like told me what's the cure for warts is, you have to get a potato and rub it all over the wort, very in the backyard, I don't know. But I think there's some interesting things to do. - I think they'll be, that would be fun. I'd be, you know what, Dom, I want, I want you to go get some ginger shots and see if it ends up helping. - Blaze, I have a question for you. You mentioned you have this wonderful new phone holder and you mentioned it attaches to your vent. Is your air possibly going out of the vent that your phone is attached to? - It was, but I just turned it off. - Okay, I think it's probably gonna be a little better in terms of noise is kind of going in and out. But awesome, so let's get sick a lot less. Plus, you know what it is too, I always feel, what's up Dylan, I see Dylan popping in here. I always, like whenever it's cold outside, especially as it kind of gets into like this season here and like the winter, I'm always like, I'm always surprised by people who are always kind of saying, it's like, well, if you go outside, you're gonna catch a cold 'cause it's cold outside. But like a lot of the viruses can't survive when it's cold outside. So it's better to be outside and you really catch it when it's inside, right? And then, you know, you're on people more when it's inside too. So I love the step challenge, right? 'Cause it's gonna keep us outside, I think a lot more. So we're promoting health, we're promoting people just not getting as sick right now. - Love it. Bad news, 'cause my goal's gonna get above 10,000 steps every day, but I had a pretty sedentary day yesterday and I only got like 9,300 and I didn't check it on my phone until like, you know, I checked it on my watch when I was going to bed last night and I'm just like, there's no way I can do another step in this step, like if I'm not getting out of bed. But, no, you gotta look to see why I failed yesterday, my personal goal and do better. - John, how are your steps gone? - Going good, man. I mean, I'm maxing out every single day. Yesterday I came close, I did two walks and then as I was driving home, like I'd done two walks and then I'd sent the whole rest of the day in the office and I was driving to my in-laws and I'm on the phone with my kids and I had said, oh, I need like 800 more steps to get to max and my wife just goes, we'll just park further away. And I'm like, yeah, I probably have to park farther away 'cause when I come back this late, there's no parking. And just like the one time where there was like all the spots were open, like right next to my in-laws house, which never happens. So I was like, well, that's just a sign that I have to park close. And I usually have to carry a bunch of stuff into their house anyways. So I parked close, carried a bunch of stuff. And then I looked at my steps and I'm like, crap, still like short. So I grabbed a beer and I just talked to my daughter walking around the block, which was fun. That's like part of my gratitude actually. So I'll switch this into that. But it was a good time like getting a little walk-in, essentially at the end of the day, while having a nice relaxing beer and talking to my middle daughter all about her day and her homework and some real block stuff. But yeah, it was a good time. And I got, and the other thing is I didn't hit the mark. I think I hit like 14,900. And I was like, oh, I'll cover those steps, just moving around the rest of the night. And I didn't even like check or anything. I just woke up this morning and I'm like, huh, I wonder if I did or do not. I did, but it was kind of funny. I didn't. - Thanks. - But yeah, all good, man. What's your guys' gratitude since I started it? - I have a lot of gratitude. Just thank you all for today. Louisa took Brody to school for the first time today. And I'm just so thankful. I'm actually like in a weird, I'm not mentally as happy as I thought it would be, just 'cause like it's usually my thing to do. So I think just like breaking away from like, it's okay to share your responsibilities. We all need help and be okay with it. So I'm just, that's my gratitude. - That's good. I like the, it's like introspective a little bit. You're still kind of figuring out why you threw that way. I think that's cool. I'm sitting here, I think with, I think routine, didn't jumping into routine, having built a routine that I'm comfortable with kind of being back at home right now. And I think it's just like, you know, now there's no more vacations planned for the next couple of weeks at least, or months almost. So I'm really happy about that. And we're going to, I think be full steam ahead on so many cool projects at the moment. So I'm really excited about it. I just want to say is I want to put something positive out in the world. I have a potential really cool opportunity to work with a really cool company part time within the dietitian sports, dietitian space in particular. So I will leave the finer details absent for the moment, but if it comes up, I want to share with you guys because I think it would be an amazing bit of gratitude, but I want to make sure that it's something that is out there because there's no reason to hide those things. So happy about it. - That's awesome. - Madison, with what Greg was saying, he's grateful to just be back at work and staying busy. Anybody else having gratitude, drop in the chat. Graham's talking about the cooler mornings, man. I love the cooler, I hate more than going outside and just getting hit by all the heat. So I'm so happy that that is something that I got to do. Or there's a copy on me. - You're all good, I feel like you're all safe, you're all good right now. (laughing) - You probably just... - You probably know the show every day, just trying to get up the show. - You can invite them, just speed for that reason. And then be like, I was just speeding so you could be a guest. What are you talking about? - Okay, you left, bro. Okay, everybody, Blaze is not getting pulled over. We are up. - If you got any other gratitude right now, I'm definitely grateful. I love hoodie weather. I think hoodie weather is good. Hoodie weather in the gym is always a special time of the year. So I know MP is really dialing in some of his training right now. And I think that's gonna be a good thing. We got Brofit, Brofit just jumped in. Brofit gratitude early AM, works before Sun comes up with listening to Hillsong United, had given me such peace. What is Hillsong United? Do you guys know? - I think Hillsong is a choir. I think I've listened to it a couple of times. - Oh, nice, cool. - And I went to shout out to Brofit, about this like picture yesterday. And just looking fit bro, you're looking good. I'm just wanting to say like we need to do Vdad's calendar with, you know, we're getting all these steps in. You know, we got to do a calendar. - What would be the overwhelming, what would be the overlapping type of image that would be greatest for the calendar? Is it a shirtless calendar? Or is it a family calendar? Like what is it that we would have to do to make it happen? - I mean, we need a bunch of V-friends tattoos to put on our bodies and then, you know, like. - Black. - I just see a like massive picture of like. We're all, I don't know. I was gonna say we're all shirtless around Gary, but then now it sounds weird. (laughing) So maybe, or I don't know. Tabby's in the chat. Where's the calendar? Oh yeah, we need a calendar. David, you can be in the calendar too. We need you in the calendar. Yesterday, Ella told Savvy that God chose her for me, but they knew I needed her. I love that. - Please let Ryan read the chat, dude. You're driving. - No, I'm not, I'm hard. - He's hard cooking. - He's good. - I didn't think about it. - I've been, I've been loving how much Blaze can now see the chat and be involved with a streamer. I think it's, I think it's been amazing. It's like a whole other dimension, Blaze reading and making it a thing. - Now this time the chat thought he was ignoring them. (laughing) - But before we get into the reading, just, I wanted to take two minutes, 'cause you guys are some Sage ads. One of the children we had a argument today, they wanted to wear a particular outfit that I didn't think was appropriate. So that started the vibes. A little frustrating this morning. And I was not the favorite dad on the block today. So have you guys ever been in that situation? - Now all the time. - How do you approach those conversations? - Yeah, literally just had a talk with my wife the other day because she was, she started that vibe off on Friday, like as soon as my, our middle child came down, or as soon as my wife came down the stairs, she looked at our middle child and she was like, you're not gonna wear that today, are you? And I'm just like, she's like, no good morning, no nothing, like not the greatest way to start in. And it turned out it was just 'cause she had, she's kind of like getting into a different phase and she just wants to wear this one item of clothing because everything else she wants is like loose and baggy. And we were, I don't think we were ready to like kind of put her in those clothes yet. So she was just wearing these like little like almost like tennis skirts, but she only had three of them. And I'm like, honey, if she only has three of them, like she has to repeat. Like there's five, you know, six, seven days in the week. And I'm like, and then I just told, I looked at her, and I'm like, what's your issue with her going to school in the same skirt? Like the kids at school and the teachers at school are gonna think whatever they're gonna think, but as long as like our daughter's comfortable and she's doing what she wants to do, like she's fine. If there's a stain on it and she gets embarrassed, that's just gonna be her own learning lesson. Like if someone points out like you wore that yesterday, same thing, like it could be embarrassing. She could just easily say, well, I have two of them. Like, I mean, I know if there was a while where, you know, I was working for a company and I just wore the same shirt every single day, but it wasn't the same shirt. I just had five of those same shirts. Like Ryan has 67 black Phoenix. Like we know that. We know that Ryan loves that shirt. Like some people like, some people, it's easier to find an outfit and just wear it, right? Like, and that's what she was doing. I think it calmed my wife down a little bit, but like, yeah, it really set off the middle child in the morning. Like I took her to school myself and she was, I'm like, what's wrong? And she's like, mom made me mad today. I'm like, it's like they like went upstairs and did this like whole thing and yeah, really crushed the vibe in the morning. I don't know if that helps, but like, just let them do that, man. Like, even if it's like mismatch and inside out, like, I mean, inside out's kind of a little strange, but like, you got younger kids. They're just goofballs. Like everybody's, you know, like, just let them be weird for a little bit. - It's interesting, Blakey. Do you think, I guess I don't know which kid you're talking about, but I think my, what I would impart here is that, like I'm so interested in watching my kids like, develop their personality through clothing. And it was something I did when I knew that when I was, when I was growing up, I used to wear silk shirts every day to school and then it was either silk shirts or quarterways. - Do you own silk shirts right now? - No, definitely not. But I love silk shirts. They were like the best, but you know what? I think, I think back now and I was like, no one, no one ever like made fun of me for it. And you know what? I still think to this day they look pretty good. But it was like, it was the feeling, I remember that I really enjoyed and I don't know. Like it was like my, somebody could have easily spoken up and been like, don't wear silk shirts. That's really weird Ryan. And I think I was just happy to make sure that I had the personality that I could have. I also, the one, the one thing I do remember is, I wanted, and I think I talked about this before, I wanted like really baggy jeans at the bottom, but I didn't care about like, I didn't need them like, I don't want them hanging off my butt. But I remember I grabbed a pair of my older brothers jeans, Jason's jeans, and I put them on. And my mom was like, so against wearing big jeans. And I remember I put them on and I like cinched the belt so tight so they wouldn't like fall down and my butt wouldn't be out. But she saw that and then she like, she shanked me. And she was like, see, they're way too big. And I was like, but wait a second. I wish, I wish my mom had asked like why I wanted them. She's like, yeah, you're not gonna have your butt hanging out. I remember being like, but I didn't want my butt hanging out. That wasn't, that wasn't, that wasn't my point. Like I wanted the big like, you know, like Jengo jeans? Was that everything for you guys, the Jengos? So I just wanted those big, like those wide leg jeans. That was the reason I did it. And so I remember it was part of my personality. And then like to this day, I'm just like, I guess, like I still remember that moment. And so I try to be really careful around my kids and say like what they can't wear, but again, like, I don't know what the situation was for you. So, but I'm just, I'm so interested right now with my younger kids watching a personality come out through clothing. Oh man. I have like so many other things to say, but we have seven minutes left and we haven't touched yet. I'm gonna pivot a little bit. So if you guys don't know, right in the daily dad this month, it's all about reading. And so it's trying to plant the seed of reading in your kids. And I know we're all talking about reading for ourselves, but also for our children. And what I got from today is you have to have books available for your kids. And so I don't remember all the details, but what today's meditation had me thinking about is my daughter has a shelf in her room with probably like a hundred books in it. And neither of my sons have a bookshelf in their room. So I feel that something that I want to try and work on for them. And I always have books piled up all over the house that I'm like halfway through. But that's where like my mind went this morning. What did you guys take away from the meditation today? - Well, I love Theodore Roosevelt. He is definitely like one of my, you know, people I look up to and I love his biography and everything I just really connect with it. And I love the idea here where really it's, this was the message, tell me if I'm wrong about if you think I'm missing something. But the idea that like the Roosevelt's, or at least how he was bringing up his children, he's like, we're not gonna allow the name to be the thing that's going to be giving you your prestige or your spot in the world, but your reading is. And so I think the fact, and I love the fact here that they really did highlight that he read to his kids a lot. But I think that the other part here was that like what, on a, it was a trip with the, how many kids were there? He had, I think a daughter who died. It's one of his first daughters that died. But three or four of his kids here, they devoured 50 novels on like a family trip somewhere, a family vacation that says. And so like that's just crazy to me. But it's also like that's, that define them. It define them almost more than them being like a Roosevelt, which I thought was pretty good. So, you know, what Blaze said here too is, you know, and what Ryan Holiday says is bring them up in a house that if it lacks rich heritage or fame, like I think most of us in some sort of way, right? Because we're not a Roosevelt, although, you know, I think that the Ruzos are probably gonna take over the world, starting in Southern California. But if there's no lineage like that, like at least like give them this, this love, this richness in this love for reading. So I'm, I liked it. I liked it. - A couple of months ago, we were talking about nepotism. And I almost feel like Roosevelt's theology here was, I'm not gonna, I'm gonna fight nepotism with reading. And that's how you're gonna grow, not by just carrying my name behind your name, maybe. - No, I think you're right. I like that. I think it's hard. I always, it has, I don't know, I, you know, you know who came on one of our first streams ever is, what's his name? Who was, who was one of the big holders in the B friends world? - I'm just because it's part of the story. But I know he's, he's Indian. He's out in, I think Vancouver, on the west side of Canada. What's his name? - Oh. - Big holder. - Moses? - Yeah. He came into one of our first streams and he asked a question. And I think he was like really curious and wanted to know like a good takeaway from it all. But he was saying like, what do we do with our kids that, you know, they're growing up with, you know, a well-off family, you know, they have a lot of money. And like, how can we make sure that we are helping them grow up and make sure that they are setting their own goals instead of us doing it? And so whether it's nepotism on the side of like the Roosevelt or, you know, Mohit mentioning what he did, I think it's, I think it's a good conversation. I wish he would come back. - No, I remember the exact conversation I'm talking about. And because it's like how you expose your kids to like different people, being around different people, different cultures. But his example was like in an airplane, like sitting coach versus business class versus first class is that an opportunity to just move around a little bit and look at things from a different perspective. So yeah, that's a good point. I like you brought that up. You think about bringing more people in sometimes and doing those round tables at some point. Done, anything from the readings today that hit home for you? - Oh, no, feel them. - Yeah, my takeaway was similar to Blaze is like kind of thinking about what I have around my house. You know, like you said, like I think each one of my kids has a shelf. I know the two younger ones definitely have books in their rooms. I can't picture the teenager having many books, but I know she gets her reading done in school. So they're around it. I just, I don't think we put enough emphasis on it, but it is kind of like changing a little bit. Like I've said, like especially with this month. So I've had a couple of good solid week mornings where the three of us, me and the two younger ones wake up early and we kind of sit and read quietly before their iPads turn on. It's kind of like my thing that I've mentioned a couple of times just like staying out of my phone for the first two or three hours every morning other than this stream. It's probably the only thing I do. And then I'm trying to get them to do the same thing. So when my little man comes downstairs, first thing he says is let's play Roblox and like, no, dad's reading right now. Why don't you grab a book? And try to read it, or I'll read one or two, two and take a break from mine. So I'm trying. Definitely got to get some new books in. He brought two new books home from the Book Fair. He went unassisted to a Book Fair and just cracks me up 'cause he of course brings homes like books on Minecraft. - I don't love it. - And they're really hard to read, in my opinion, because we play Minecraft and we haven't played in a couple of months. And then like, I think the monsters are really interesting, but it goes into pretty detail about like, this is how you build up pyramid or something like that. - Yeah, so this cracked me up. It's just like a one track mine with that kid right now. - Oh man, we're at time. That piles of books for your kids taking the library. - You can just read, that's how I got anybody else's last words. - My last words are I'm still working on my reading and showing my girls that I'm doing it more often. I'm making sure they're walking in and seeing me not on my phone, but definitely a book in my hand. And it's been really good for me. I would love to kind of talk about what the reading has done for me, which then has affected a few more things. And I've been talking to my oldest about it a little more so topic for another day. - Yeah, I love what you're saying about reading books each night. And yeah, parents had no drip in the '90s, I agree. It was all pillows. That's a conversation. We had a little bit about the other day is public school versus private school and all that stuff. But regardless, everybody have a great day. They're hard to stay filled with gratitude and your cups of coffee. - Love you guys. - Love you guys.
