Our last show of the week. It is great to have your company on SCN 1170 am in Sydney. And of course on the SCN at Partley Cloudy is the forecast. Although the sun's out right now and 24 degrees. 1-300-01-1170 is the Allstate open line number. You can build great customer experiences with Allstate Contact Center outsourcing. We've got a fair bit on our plate this morning including a very special guest coming up in about an hour's time. Peter Cummins who is the big chief of the Western Bears will be on the program. Has agreed to join us this morning. So obviously a lot to try and work through here. And probably the biggest question is, is the bid dead or is it on life support? Is it done? They've been informed by the NRL that their bid proposal has not been accepted. So that's where it officially stands. But what about behind the scenes or in the view of the bid chief Peter Cummins? Why did they not put up a license fee? Now Peter has explained some of those reasons over the last 24 hours. But we'll get to hear it firsthand this morning. Why no license fee when from our information they were asked to put a license fee in that bid? What's next? And where did the North Sydney Bears now stand? Did it also come down to the fact that there was no real face-to-face meetings with Peter Villandes? As Andrew Webster said yesterday, we'll be on this program. And in his article in the Sydney Morning Herald said, "It feels more like those involved in the bid didn't know how to negotiate with the most powerful man in Australian sport." They were so far down the track they were having meetings in Sydney on Monday with executives as to when to start and how to start and who would be in what role. The official date of the announcement was meant to be today. So on the day that they were hoping to be announced as the next team in the NRL, we will speak to the Western Bears' bid chief with that bid in absolute limbo, if not dead for now. That's coming up this morning in Racing News. Recognition for Australia's richest race, the Everest, which will be held Saturday week. So October 19 and also the All-Star Mile will get Group 1 status. So that's recognition for what the Everest has been doing in such a short history. The money came, then all the pizzazz came with it, and the wow factor came with it. But behind the scenes, there was a big divide between Racing and New South Wales racing in Victoria. It's been going for a while and it's reached fever pitch. Now there's a little bit of let's all gather around folks and drink out of the same cup here. And the net result is that racing Australia and ratified by the world bodies have attached Group 1 status to the Everest. It's the classification given to the highest level of thoroughbred races. What does it mean to you and me? Not much, really. As in punters, it doesn't change the way that the race is run. It doesn't change much, but it changes the way that it is held and the status that it is given in world racing and makes everybody look at it with sharper eyes around the world. We'll chat with Miles Fittsner about that this morning. Doesn't make any difference to you. Do you think that the Everest is the best race in the country at the moment? And of course we are counting down to the Melbourne Cup amongst others. Sheffield Shield continues today. New South Wales v South Australia out there at Cricket Central. So South Australia resume at 7 for 227 this morning. That means there are 139 runs behind our first innings or New South Wales' first innings total of 366, so we'll keep our eyes on that one. And the Bathurst 1000 countdown continues. We will catch up with a former winner of the race. I think there's 10. What did I work at? Yes, there's 10 Bathurst 1000 winners in this year's race. And we will catch up with one of them this morning, regular on this programme. He won at his very first crack back in 2011. For Bendix breaks, we will catch up with Nick Percat this morning. Now the weather forecast for Sunday for race day. I got to ask this yesterday when I was asked by the Supercars website to do my race tips and smokey. And then they also asked me about the weather. And how do you play the weather? And I was on SCN in Melbourne last night. And I said, I actually don't know what the forecast is at the moment. I used to get my forecast from one Neil Crompton sitting right next to me. Not only is it a genius and one of the greatest commentators that we've ever seen, a good mate, but he's also a weather geek down to the minute. But the official forecast is mostly sunny morning on Sunday. Medium chance of showers most likely in the evening. Right, so it looks as though it's going to be okay. And then it says chance of rain 50%. At Bathurst, that chance of rain could be anywhere around the 6.213 kilometers of the circuit. In fact, it can be raining up the top sunny down the bottom. It can be hailing down the bottom sunny up the top. You never know what you're going to get at Bathurst. New format yesterday for the Supercars series in 2025 as I brought to you on this program. They have divided it into three main segments. Sprint cup, Enduro cup, and then the finals. Now the first two fine, they work their way through the season. We've had Enduro cups before. They're basically in competition competitions, if you want to put it that way. The finals is interesting. And what it'll mean is it'll come down to the final event. There will be four drivers left standing in the race. And they will all start that final event in Adelaide on scratch. So a full-blown reset. It's a massive change. It's a huge shakeup. And I like it. I like what they're doing here, especially with the finals. It's going to be complicated. But I think by the time we get to this time next year for Supercars fans, I reckon you'll like it. It generates storylines. It generates emotions. And hopefully it generates a really good weekend. Where no matter what happens, there will be four drivers left in that race for the title at the last event. Now for our combos today on 0457736736. In the spirit of Bathurst, we're going to go down the road part in the pun of driver pairings. So here's what you do for your combos today. I know you like to dive into this. You get two people you can go on a road trip with. You're driving. You get to pick two other people that is going to go on a road trip. Let's say you're heading from Sydney out to Bathurst. So three, four hours, depending on what you're going to do. You're on a road trip. What's your best driver combo? Or your pairing combo that goes out there with you? And why? Not talking motorsport. You can throw in motorsport drivers if you want. But who do you want in the car? And why? Who do you want to chat to? Who's got the best playlist? Who's going to keep you occupied? Who's playing spotter? Who's the pest? Who gets to sit in the backseat? Let me know. Oh, four, five, seven, seven, three, six, seven, three, six. So kind of like who would you have dinner with? You know that old chestnut? But this is the driver pairing in the spirit of Bathurst combo. You're driving out to Mount Panorama. I can deliver two people. You tell me who they are. Now, last listeners standing quiz is also on the list this morning. Thanks to GolfBox, the Australia's greatest golf superstar. You can shop at golfbox.com.au today. Five questions, they're Bathurst questions. Right? $150 voucher. I've got five Bathurst 1000 related questions. Don't Google. Just come and join the fun. We will do that a little bit earlier than normal. So here's your warning for that one. 930 is going to be our time just after the 930 news. Because Peter Cummins from the Western Bears is going to join us just after our 10 o'clock news, which is also when Queensland will join us. This morning. So 930 folks, 1-300-01-1170 is that number. If you want to be part of that quiz, let me test your knowledge around the Bathurst 1000. As I mentioned, Miles Pitsner will also be on the show. Jared Daffy will have all the latest odds. We've got the Chronicle on the list on this Thursday morning as well. So we'll go in search of some headlines and looking forward to catching up with Nick Percat from Bendix Racing up there in Bathurst. 1-300-01-1170 is that open line number. Let's get to a few things that some of the main players in the world have sport have been talking about over the last 24 hours. So the Panthers, of course, well, it's a no-brainer. You're looking at Ivan. You're looking at Nathan and you're looking at re-signing and you're looking at making sure that they're their long term. Here's what Panthers Group CEO Brian Fletcher had to say about that. When do you sit down with Ivan and Nathan and go, "Hang on. We want this to be a lifelong deal. You're never going anywhere." I hope they're knocking on my door next week so we can get them out to 2030 at least or while ever they're walking will sign them till. It's not a bad way to put it. While ever they're walking, Coach K and I had this discussion this morning. You find your winners and you sign them up for life if you can. So it's a package deal and probably one of the most valuable package deals at the moment in Australian sport, certainly in the world of rugby league. Speaking of rugby league on the run home last night, Brad Fittler spoke with the boys about the possibility of him filling that gap again at the New South Wales State of Origin job. Here's the answer from Freddie. Would you put your hand up, Fred? No, Brian. No, Brian. Really? No. But you love coaching. Every time I speak to you and we talk about coaching, like a little glint in your eye and you get a lot of energy coming through you. So how do you see the glint when we're on radio? No, I'm not talking. Can you hear the glint? No, when I speak, when I see you, I can see your eyes are light up. Freddie won Fletch Nill, I reckon there. And Fletch was trying his hardest, wasn't he? To put Freddie back in that blue tracksuit. That was good fun on the run home last night. But let's count Brad Fittler out of the running on that one. And let's see where that leads us. Of course, the Pacific Championships we've had the naming of the Kangaroos squad, Tom Treboivich, in full flight back in the green and gold, despite injury troubles again, but representing Australia is what it's all about. And he was always fine. The shoulder I actually thought that I was going to need surgery. So the doc was kind of giving me that indication, but he wasn't 100% sure, but got that vibe off him. But we went and saw the surgeon after we finished up. And he said that we don't even need it. So moved on from there. Straightaway wanted to play for Australia. Obviously means a lot to you. Yeah, definitely. I'd always consider the highest representative on it that you can wear as a proud Australian. So I'm really looking forward to wearing the jersey again. I'm one for six or so years. So we're starting to get back out there. Yeah, well done, Turbo. Thanks to nine for that last night. Oh, four, five, seven, seven, three, six, seven, three, six. As I mentioned, the Western Bears, big chief Peter Cummins, will be joining me in about 45 minutes time. However, North Sydney Bears fans, you are safe. And ARL Commission, boss Peter Velandis, has said you will not be killed off over the standoff that is happening at the moment between headquarters and WA. PVL contacted Daniel Dixon, the Bears chairman. We've had him quite often on this program to assure him the Bears are still part of their expansion plans. And Webby confirmed this yesterday from all of the digging and talking that he had done ahead of his article in the Sydney Morning Herald. So the Bears are safe. However, the ARL Commission, after formally rejecting the WA government back to bid, now is thinking about perhaps the NRL can set themselves up there. The NRL hierarchy will step up those talks with the WA government to try and resuscitate that team. And according to Peter Velandis, the Bears will be there. They're not affected by this. There's a fallacy that's going around the Bears are dead. No, they're not. It's far from it. And he's explained that to Daniel Dixon. If we do a deal directly with the government, it will include the Bears. There's a lot of complications around that. A lot of complications around the NRL having its own team. And mostly because the game doesn't trust itself. I think that's probably the best way to put it. 1-300-01-1170 is our open line number this morning. Thanks to Alltell. What about this for a duo that would be part of your combo in the car? You're on a road trip. Dave says, "Good to Steiner." And Gordon Ramsay would make for a colorful road trip conversation. It would. Well, he showed us in Drive to Survive that... Not in Drive to Survive, but it probably have to. If we put a GoPro in there or a microphone in there, it'd be Beep Central and Gordon Ramsay wouldn't be too far off. Walnut says, "I'm taking Alfie Langer and Shane Warren with me on the road trip." That would be fun. That would be loud and fuller stories as well. And you'd have to be prepared for anything with SK Warren, in particular, for the ride on that one. So we're going to have a bit of fun with that with combos this morning. Really looking forward to finding out what's next with the Western Bears. Give me your thoughts on Group 1 status for the Everest. We'll keep you updated with the Sheffield Shield cricket and all of the news there. And the countdown to the Bathurst 1000 continues. The great race of 2024. It is 18 minutes after 9. Welcome back, 23 minutes after 9 o'clock. Don't forget, after the 9.30 news, our last listener standing quiz this morning. BJC from Blacktown says, "Maddy, surely this consortium was well aware of the requirements to enter the NRL and to say they thought they didn't want to pay a license for you's really poor management in place of the consortium." Sadly, they don't deserve entry in my view. And I think they are entitled to favours. I think they think they're entitled to favours and privileges. Just shows how out of touch this consortium is and needs a reality check. So from what we understand and from what I understand and what we discussed yesterday with Webby is the requirement was as part of the bid process to put in a licence fee. Now, under the terms of any bid, you can put in what you want to put in, I would say. And they made a business decision not to put in a licence fee bid. They have said at the moment that they shouldn't put in a licence fee because nobody else has. Regcliffe didn't. And they're also pointing to the fact that there was a $16 million startup burn before you even kick off a football. So the Dolphins had guarantee behind them because of their financial situation, which is part of the reasoning behind the NRL wanting a licence fee bid in there. However, on the WA side of things, they're saying, well, hang on a second. We're starting in an AFL state. We've got huge startup costs. There's a big, big burn to the tune of $16 million. We're bringing new eyeballs to the table for negotiating a broadcast rights sponsorship dollars and it didn't make commercial sense to offer a substantial licence fee. So they elected not to do so. I don't know if that means, BJC, that they think that they're entitled to favours and privileges. It was by looking at all that a business decision to say, well, hang on a second. We don't think that we should. So we're not going to. I guess the other part of all that is, as Webby and I discussed, how then do you go about doing that with somebody in the negotiating room, such as Peter Villandis? There is the other part to this too, where PVL was, according to Webby in his article, blindsided by the bid allowing Sydney King's owners Paul Smith and Paul Kine into this bid as 15% investors just before the document had been lodged. Villandis was unhappy that new investors have been included so late in the process and possibly disrespected by that. Now, the collapse of the bid isn't the fault of the two Pauls in this one. They were prepared to pay $4 million if the licence was granted. So it comes down to a business decision when you're putting in a bid to say, we're not electing or we're electing to not put a licence fee on the table. Now, in any negotiation, you can put what you want in a bid. It doesn't have to be accepted. But if it's in there in black and white, the NRL are expecting it. Perhaps it might have been either a tactical error or perhaps it was a tactical error to not speak directly to those involved. And it was a call from Andrew Abdo has been reported this morning on Monday morning that they would not be accepted as the NRL's 18th team in 2027. So we'll get more information from that side, but there are two other sides to this now. If the Western Bears bid is dead, who then comes in in 2027? Papa New Guinea, of course, we know is there and has been sitting there. So who comes in in 2027? Do they have enough time to renegotiate the NRL? This is. Do they have enough time to then renegotiate with the WA Government and try and get this thing up and running on their own bat? And owner team over there from scratch. And if not, where does that leave WA in the pecking order? Because this pecking order continues to change. The game wants to get to 18 teams quickly and it wants to get to 20 teams not too long after that. The Bears are still in the pitch no matter what. But now they might have to wait. How far would this put the bid back? Interesting, interesting. Tony from Liverpool says, "Maddy, every year at this time I find myself jumping onto YouTube and searching for the lap of the gods." Yes, that time has since been eclipsed. But the way Mirth threw that hold him around the mountain was flawless. The reaction from the pits is something that has never happened again. And the commentary from yourself and Crompton made the hairs on the back of your next stand up. That shouldn't deserve its place in Bathurst Folklore. Happy Bathurst, mate, says Tony from Liverpool. Thank you, Tony. It was an extraordinary day. That won an extraordinary couple of minutes. The lap of the gods back in 2003. And the emotion that you speak to of the reaction from the pits is something that really blew everything apart off the back of that lap. The lap itself was amazing. The time was incredible. I'll tell you something, Tony, when Mirth crossed the line at that moment, we knew what he was doing. We knew what he'd done. But the actual number hadn't sunk in yet. You've got to go through a very super quick process of making sure that the number in front of you is right. And for a bit there in all of that emotion, I don't remember exactly what the number was straight off the top of my head. I remember that Crompton went to it and he said, "Holy smokes." And then you're right. It hit you very quickly, but it also hit you with the emotion that Mirth had coming his way when he went back down Pit Lane. Opened up the door. We were on board with him at the time. He was screaming his lungs out. And the whole of Pit Lane came out and stood and clapped. And these are the people that are there to beat him every day to beat that car. They want to see that car fail, not go fast, but they all realized what they had seen. So thank you, Tony. I appreciate that. You might want to keep that in the back of your mind for the old Quizaroo. $150 golf box voucher is coming your way. We will do that straight after the 930 years, which is about to happen. So hit up the phones now. 1-300-01-1170 be part of our last listener standing quiz this morning. 1-300-01-1170 is our open line number. If you'd like to be part of the last listener standing quiz, join in the conversation and give Coach Kay a call. Lines are available. Coach Kay is ready to take them and we will hit the ground running with five questions. We'll get to that in just a sec. The Melbourne rebels, as you may have heard in the news there, have issued proceedings in the federal court against Rugby Australia after being axed from the Super Rugby Pacific competition from next year. So the rebels have accumulated a debt of almost $23 million before they went into voluntary administration. That was back in January. The consortium, A consortium, was established to try and save them. But Rugby Australia rejected that saying it didn't demonstrate sufficient financial viability. Now, yesterday, the rebels filed a statement of claim in the federal court. But the number is eye-watering. Rebels directors are seeking $13 million in damages from Rugby Australia. They claim that figure includes a debt of $12 million owed to the Australian Tax Office, as well as a sum of $12.5 million based on contributions made by directors to keep it going. So there's $24.5 million of the $30 million that they're seeking from damages. The directors yesterday released a statement saying they wanted a declaration that they're entitled to resume control of the rebels so they can continue to play in the Super Rugby competition. The rebels are a member of Rugby Australia. They had a legal expectation that they'd not only be treated fairly but equally. And they said they were seeking an urgent order granting them the right to inspect the Rugby Australia books. The statement said there's no trust and confidence in the board and management of Rugby Australia. Their conduct needs to be both exposed and explained according to the statement that was put out. So the RA Rugby Australia announced also last week the rebels would not compete in the Super Rugby Women's Competition and the statement goes further saying the conduct of Rugby Australia in destroying the rebels demonstrates an appalling lack of judgment by the national body. So they have lodged a claim in the courts and it's seeking $30 million in damage is where does that leave Rugby Australia at the moment between a rock and a hard place, obviously, in the middle of a legal fight and possibly looking at some very, very heavy damages in a sport that needs every dollar it can get. I mean they all do but Rugby Australia has had its dramas. Oh boy, let's see how that one goes. Olivia Kernick has opened up about the moment that she has found out that she was dumped from the Gillaroos where an investigation essentially is now underway on this. One the Dalian medal on Wednesday scored the opening and game-winning tries in the grand final victory for the Roosters over Crannuller but was left out at the 21 woman squad as it was named as we know on Monday and an investigation is now forthcoming. She's spoken on a podcast alongside some Roosters teammates and said they're out enjoying the post premiership party until said Millie Elliot the Gillaroos squad came out and Liv Kernick said it was a bittersweet day. So where does this one go after all of that? Into investigation time, you think, and it shows you how much of a storm this has started because it's now reached the point where they're thinking about it to discuss possible changes on that one. 1-300-01-1170 is my open line number and that last listeners standing quiz just on hold just for a moment. Don't forget Peter Cummins from the Western Bears beard is going to join me. Hey, I'll just do some of these because I've asked for you combos on a road trip. You get to pick two people. You're heading out to Bathurst for instance and away you go. 720 says, "Maddy, I'd like to see a car trip with cane corns and Joel Kane. Kane and sugar out there. We'll just let him go." Peter Brock and Alan Moffatt, absolute champion says Guilford Mick. Wouldn't that be some kind of road trip out to Bathurst? Morning, Maddy. Happy Bathurst Week says the Port Stevens Panther regarding the NRL expansion. There surely needs to be a second New Zealand team with the weight that broadcasters have the time difference suits for our broadcast slot. It also mitigates rugby having a free pick of all the best young players offering a pathway to NRL. South Island creates an immediate cross-country rivalry less travel than Perth for visiting sides. How are we not talking about this and playing with PNG or the Perth Code? We've definitely spoken about this at length and there are hands going up over the ditch left-right and centre to be part of the NRL expansion and I think that that's a logical part to go to. I understand the realities of pop-pop when you're getting because we live in a grown-up world that's operating on money and we all know that, right? There's no secrets left behind that. We all understand why. I'll constantly come back to the question, is it good for the competition? It might be good for the game, it might be good for the country, is it good for the competition? What outweighs what in that argument? And I would think better for the competition for me would be Perth. This is in order of appearance for the competition, Perth, then another New Zealand team and then you'd start to look at pop on New Guinea. However, the reality is of what's good for the game, the bank balance and everything else flips all that on its head. Let's go to the all-tail open line. Tony wants to have a chat about the lap of the gods, Tony. You want to bring that back up? 2003, mate. Yeah, Matty, I just read out my FMN. Oh, that was yours. Thank you, mate. Yep, go for it. Sorry, it's 21 years. We're still talking about that 21 years later. That's the impact of the path. And I don't think I've ever seen, like you said, everyone run out from the pits and applaud. What just what happened that day? It's unbelievable the way through that car around the track. It was just amazing, amazing. Do you remember, I did a podcast recently with Aaron Noonan, and we spent a lot of time talking about that that day, that moment. Do you remember just how fast that Kmart Commodore was that weekend? I mean, that was just under two minutes and seven seconds that I live in Bathurst folklore. But right across the course of that weekend, mate, Murph and Enrico had a super fast car. I think it was fastest in every, pretty much every session, say bar one or two. So it was no surprise that it was going to be fast, but we'd never seen a lap under 207. And the interesting, the other interesting part, which we found out later, was that Murph admitted to making a mistake along the way. He missed a gear, grabbed the wrong gear along the way there. So it could have been even quicker. And you're absolutely right. And I think Konta did mention that when he speaks about the throttle. But even if you watch the YouTube video, right right at the beginning, when you're on the warm-up lap, is coming down Kontrad, why he's throwing those gears out, and all the way that V8 is responding, unbearly. Murph and I have spoken about it at length, Tony. I love Murph. And I was very lucky to be there at that moment in time. And he said to me about where did release the shackles come from. So I said at the very end of that lap, he's released the shackles on car 51. And he's going straight to the top of the Bob J and team arts 1000. And he said to me, where did that come from? And I said, honestly, mate, I don't know. It's not something that I'd ever used. It's not something that I thought about. I never write down things when I'm commentating. And I certainly never used it again. But probably on reflection, for me, to your point of about the way that he was throwing that car around, to me, it looked like a car like a thoroughbred horse that just wanted to be released and let go and just run at its full steam. Now, he has to have control of it. Otherwise, the thing ends up in a wall. But that's to me what it looked like by the end of that lap. He'd let that car do what it wanted to do and what he guided it to do. And that's where that quote came from. Oh, mate, it was brilliant. And just the way that car looked, it was just grip and rip. So it was brilliant, mate. Brilliant. Good on you, mate. Thanks, Tony. I appreciate your text and your memories as well. And I'm glad you enjoyed it. We had a great day. Thank you for that. And to be able to do it standing alongside Cromley was probably as good as it gets, to be fair. The other part about that is lap of the gods, I don't know who came up with a turn. I actually don't know. We certainly didn't. And we didn't sit around as far as my memory goes, we didn't sit around that night talking about a lap of the gods lap. We were talking about how fast the car was. We were also talking about how on earth were they going to beat it on race day Sunday. But we weren't talking about lap of the gods. We were definitely talking about the emotion down pit lane, but you also move on very quickly. So that two minutes, 6.8, 5, 9, 4 seconds goes into the history books, goes into the memory, and becomes part of folklore. But you get up early the next morning, you get to the track, they do a warm up. And before you know it, they're racing. And that 2.0. 6.8, 5.9, 4 goes into essential irrelevance very quickly, because now focuses on the 161 laps. Appreciate it, Tony. Oh, we need to take a break. 1.300.01. 11.70 is our open line number. Pat from Peter, we're good to hear from you this morning. Mate says, Matty loved the show. The lap of the gods was one for the ages, never be forgotten. But for me, being there in '95 to witness King Larry go from last to first was one of the best drives ever from him and Russell. They also both signed my kubera that year. I'm 55. I've been a huge Perkins Ingle fan my whole life. It'd be great to see Larry have a car or two on the grid. Well, young Jack's going to be there, isn't he? Thank you, Pat. Appreciate that. So many great memories. So many people get so fired up about this and we'll be calling it right here on SCN. Former champion Paul Dunbrill is going to be in as part of the commentary. Jimmy will be with me. So full coverage on race day Sunday. You can just leave us switched on whether you're going in or out and we'll give you all the details looking forward to it. Make sure you stay with us. We're going to do our, we are going to do our last listener standing quiz in our next hour now. SCN Q is going to join us. But after the break, after the news, Peter Cummins, the Western Bears bid chief wears all that out. Well, he'll be on the program. Okay, fakes. There's been a change in the order coach K. You've come over the top, you've wielded the official producers big stick over there. And you've said postponing last listener standing quiz because this is in the interest of fairness because our SCN Q 693 station in Brisbane will be joining us at the 10 o'clock spot, which will be nine o'clock their time, right? So we did, we jumped the gun mate. That's what we did. We got our times mixed up. We fell for the oldest trick in the book. So that means we're going to put the last listener standing quiz. So everybody gets a fair crack at it. I would hate to jump on on a Thursday and our SCN Q mates go, hang on a second, hang on a second. So we'll do that in the 10 o'clock our time. And don't forget Peter Cummins from the Western Bears is going to join me straight after the 10 o'clock news there. So now's your time to brush up on a bit of Bathurst action. And you can be in the running for a $150 voucher. Thanks to Golf Box Australia's greatest golf superstar. 1-300-01-1170 is our open line number. And we do that thanks to all tell your business outsourcing partner. There is a great announcement that's just been made from New South Wales sport or sport New South Wales about Paul Kelly, Swan's AFL grade. He will be officially recognised as a legend of New South Wales sport at the champions of sports ceremony, which will be held late next month. One of the best players in the mid 90s, he will become the 25th athlete in New South Wales and the first AFL player to go up to legend status. Who does that put him next to amongst others? Dawn Fraser, Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Donald Bradman, Marjorie Jackson Nelson, Ken Rosewell, Louise Savage and others. So Paul Kelly, hailing from the Riverina District, a member of the Sydney Swans, first up in 1990 played 234 games, kicked 200 goals until he retired in 2002 and was appointed captain in 1993 as well. In fact, remains the club's longest serving captain. Captain Carages will be elevated to legend status thanks to sports sport New South Wales. And also we'll have five new inductees into the Hall of Champions. Susie Batkovich from basketball, Alex Blackwell, whose international cricket career lasted 251 matches for Australia 15 years. That's across test one day as in T20s as well. Congratulations, Alex Murray Braun from Surf Live Saving, Patty Dench, sports pistol, who dominated pistol shooting in Australia throughout the 70s and 80s. And Tim Gavin as well, one of the best number rates in world rugby during his tenure at the Wallabies, which lasted eight years and 76 caps for Wales, 76 times for the Wallabies 47 test matches between 88 and 96. So congratulations to all who will be officially inducted in November as Hall of Champions members and a special congratulations to Paul Kelly, elevated to Hall of Champions legend status. And our thanks to sport New South Wales and Greg Campbell for that one. Appreciate it. Greg, thank you, mate, for sending that through 0457736736. There is also the Chronicle Day. This is kind of Thursday, isn't it? Trying to catch a fly in a bottle. What are you looking for, Coach Kay, when we go for our headline searches today? Yeah, Maddie, I'm thinking we're going to go all headlines across the weekend in terms of sport, but in particular, Bathurst. So if you have a Bathurst one, a headline that you think might be at the end of the weekend, definitely shoot it through. Obviously, we like predictions too, but whatever you think, put it down, also mix and match that with any single sporting event happening across the weekend, too. Okay, so my Bathurst picks. After much deliberation, I'm going to stick with the man James Moffatt and Cam Waters, right? I'm going to find it very hard to... I would not be surprised at both of the Red Bulls are there on the last lap, going for it. That would not surprise me at all. And I'm going to stick with a top four, fighting it out of the two Red Bulls, plus Chaz and Lee, plus Cam Waters and James Moffatt. Now, everything needs to go their way. And of course, Moff's our co-commentator here at SCN, so I've just leaned into a bit of favoritism there because God knows how. I tell you what I am confident I want to dark horse, the Bathurst is Matt Payne and Garth Tander. So, you've got Garth Tander who knows that place like, quite literally like the back of his hand. He's a five-time champion and a recent champion as well, one in 2022. In fact, last Australian winner, one in 2020, covers from 2000 all the way up until two years ago. He knows how to win around there. And Matt Payne, while he's only young, has already had a race win this season, been on the podium a couple of times, and he's got the temperament. So, when I was asked about this yesterday, which is in the Supercars website, they said to me, "Who's your winner? Who's your dark horse? And what about best rookie?" And I went, "Let me start with dark horse." So, I'm going to have a good solid look. They finished top five at Sandown as well. So, the temperament of Matt Payne, the experience of Garth Tander and the closeness of the driver's times, is taking me there. And then, I'll stick with Cooper Murray for the rookie to watch. Good young kid knows what he's doing and he's got Craig Lance there. So, he doesn't need to look or ask too far any questions to get some pretty good answers on how to be successful around Mount Panorama. Welcome back to The Morning Show, right here on SCN 11.70 am in Sydney. And a big welcome to those joining us for the next two hours on SCN Q 693 in Brizzy 1301.11.70 is our all-tail open line number. And, of course, our text line is running hot this morning, 04.57.736.736. We are going to dig right into the Big Rugby League issue of the moment because the last few days have been full of surprises in the game from East Coast to West. The Western Bears were informed their bid for an expansion team would not be accepted. The sticking point, it seems, the main one is a license fee. Well, the Western Bears bid chief Peter Cummins now joins me on The Morning Show. Good day, Peter. Thanks for your time this morning. Good day, mate. Is the Western Bears bid dead? Or do you see it on life support? Unfortunately, I see it on life support, disappointing as it is. And where does that leave you with a glimmer? I believe so. I'm hopeful that we can have further negotiations with the NRL and come to some compromise on this license fee. Did you think, Peter, that at the stage that you'd got to, and we'll get to the license fee in just a sec, but did you think, because today, from my understanding, October 10, was meant to be the day of your official announcement, did this blindside you? Absolutely. We were in Sydney having a meeting with our team and prospective CEO and chief operating officer and developing plans for the next 100 days and setting interviews with coaches and players, and it really did come from left field. So, yeah, definitely blindsided. How did it unfold for you, personally? Was it Andrew Abdo who gave you the call? It was. Yep. And how did that call go down? Oh, it was a very polite and civil conversation, and he just advised us that our bid was unsuccessful. And I just said to him, look, wherever this goes, if whatever your next model is and it doesn't pan out, then we're still here and keen to support. From my perspective, I don't want to put any obstacles in the way of getting a team into Perth. That's the only reason I'm involved in this. Certainly not to make money when you look at the investment case for rugby league. The average NRL club makes just over $900,000 after tax. So, if you're putting up, you know, $30 or $50 million, it's not a good investment. OK, let's talk about the numbers, Peter, because it appears as though the big sticking point here is the licence fee. It's my understanding that you were advised to put a licence fee in your bid. You elected not to do that. Is that how it panned out? And why didn't you include a licence fee? Firstly, in the bid document or the bid request document, there was no stipulation of a licence fee, and it wasn't a condition of having a licence granted. So, although we had had the informal discussions with Peter Beatty about a licence fee, and a lovely man is, we, for a number of reasons, and if I've got time just to articulate that, decided against volunteering a licence fee. Firstly, no other clubs paid one, including the dolphins, the most recent, and who are in a much better position to be able to afford one. The other is that our view was that we bought a significant commercial and whole of gain benefit to the NRL through this Western Bears licence. It was, you know, new eyeballs, new members, new spectators, new sponsors. The other element to it obviously was the reintroduction of a foundation club back into the NRL. And to load us up at a start-up stage with a very significant licence fee, we thought was completely unreasonable, particularly when you consider the establishment of a new club in, you know, an AFL state adds considerable cost both, you know, on an ongoing op-ex basis, as well as capex. So, we just felt that it was completely unreasonable. And so, our view was with all of those commercial and, you know, whole of gain benefits that far outweighed any benefit that a licence fee was going to bring to the game. So, the informal discussions were with Peter Beatty. The advice around that licence fee was not a stipulation, not a condition, but an informal advisory. Can I ask you what that number was? I mean, the figures put around was about somewhere between 15 and 20 million. And you've said publicly already that your start-up costs are, what, at $16 million. Was that around the figure that was, you would have been considering if you had to put something on the table? So, that was the number that was sort of informally advised to us. And when we considered all of that against these other issues, you know, there's a cash boom before you'd get an opportunity to kick a football of around $16 million. We've also got an issue with Western Australia not being a rugby league state, but we don't just have facilities that we can walk into on day one. So, the government's going to provide those scores, but that's sort of three to five years away. So, we had to make arrangements to build a suitable but tempering accommodation that costs around $10 to $16 million. Now, that is a significant cost that, you know, clubs on the East Coast don't have. So, if you add to that a $20 million licence fee, on top of the $30 million that we've already raised, we're talking about $50 million investment to generate a $900,000 profit. I mean, it doesn't commercially add up. Now, you've got the top clubs like the Brisbane Broncos, their last year public accounts made $4.2 million after tax profit. So, you know, that's at the very top end, but if you take out those top clubs, that $900,000 average drops even further. So, we have to be really conscious that we just, I made the mistake with the Western Reds of acceding to a number of requests to get that licence, in which we had to pay, for example, to fly a first and reserve grade team to Perth for every game, as well as our own cost to fly to the East Coast. And that was a crippling legacy for that club. Now, I'm not prepared to do the same at this time, and that was our reasoning. Peter, I understand the commercial realities around why you made that decision, and I understand that in negotiations there are intermediaries, there are people that you deal with in negotiations. And in this case, it was Peter Beatty, he had the dealings with some of the reporting out here on this side of the country saying, should there have been a more face-to-face relationship, essentially, with Peter Verlandis in this and more of a negotiation with Peter Verlandis? Do you think that was part of this, or does that not come into play for you? No, I think that's true. I mean, I've been in business for 40 years, and with every transaction, there's generally a negotiation. You know, you start at one place and finish up somewhere else. We never got that opportunity, and I'm hoping that at some stage, we do get the chance to sit back down with Mr Verlandis and have those negotiations. But from our point of view, we're absolutely committed and we'd hate to see the opportunity lost. If the sticking point now is a licence fee, and let's call it 20 million, if that's a sticking point, would you consider going back to the league right now and saying we're prepared to discuss a figure and that figure and have those negotiations? Would you be prepared to put a licence fee on the table? Yes, we would. And we will be going back to the NIRL to make an offer. OK. All right, have you spoken to the North Sydney Bears in all of this? We have, and they're gutted because we started to develop a really respectful and harmonious relationship with the board, and we were working towards all sorts of fantastic opportunities to promote the bears, and they're disappointed, but they're on have faith that Mr Verlandis' phone call in which he indicated that there will still be a bear's opportunity, is what they're hanging onto at the moment that they said to us that they'd love to still have that opportunity to do something with the Western Bears. And what about the partnership with the WA Government? Because the NIRL has now said it would even consider going solo on this and doing a direct deal with the WA Government. Have you had any feedback from them? No, I don't. But I wish them luck, because I don't believe that State Government's role is to partner up on operating rugby league clubs or sports in general. So I don't know where that will go, and we'll wait to see. But no, will we definitely make an approach back to the NIRL? All right, just a final one. Then when do you think that approach would be? Because as you say, it's on life support, so there's still breath in this yet, but obviously the phone call's got to be made. Is it sooner rather than later? Are you still aiming towards quick negotiations and possibly a 2027 entry into the NIRL? Certainly, that sounds our hope still, but we've got to be very conscious of the fact that if there is a fee to be paid and it's significant, we've got to make sure that we can honour a commitment that we make. So that's what we're working on at the moment. Peter, thanks for your time this morning. You've been very generous with it. We wish you the best of luck. And let's see where the next step goes in this one. Thanks for the opportunity, Maddie. Good on you, Peter. Peter Cummins there in charge of the Western Bears bid, which still remains a glimmer of hope. So out of all of that, the numbers have been put on the table as far as what they consider is reasonable. What they consider is not reasonable. Interesting that there was no official stipulation on a licence fee in the bid nor a condition. And in formal discussions with Peter Beatty, who played a critical part in all of this, advised that way. So where does it leave it? It sounds to me as though it leaves it back and now in the hands of the Western Bears. Come back to the table. Has the bread been broken? Or could you get back to that table in the first place? It appears as though they've still got some outreach to the NIRL and the ARL Commission chief there in Peter Verlandis. And then it becomes a question of how much. 0457736, 736 is our text line. Our thanks to Peter Cummins for that right here on the morning show. A big program for the next couple of hours coming up. For those of you who have just joined us on SCNQ 693, as I mentioned, a huge welcome to you. We're doing a couple of things this morning. In the spirit of Bathurst, we're looking for some combos around driver pairings, so to speak. Not the driver pairings on race day, but you're on a road trip. Who are the two people that you want in the car with you from the land of sport? Boy, have we got some great shout outs. But you've got to give me the reason why. Now you can go ying and yang. You can just have two pollucas in there, whoever you want. 0457736736. And we'll also fit in our last listener standing quiz. Thanks to golf box. So I've got a $150 voucher on the line for the winner of our last listener standing quiz. Five questions. We're going to angle them around the Bathurst 1000, which you'll hear right here here on SCNQ this Sunday. So we'll be doing that. I'll give you an alert, but 13000117, have your say now on what you've heard. We've got more information around that bid. And where does it go next? Plenty of reaction there to my interview with Peter Cummins. Keep your thoughts coming 045773673601 says, what confuses me, Matty? Why are the bears not more heavily involved? Being effectively a silent partner in the process makes me question why you'd let a group into the NRL if they're not prepared to do any of the heavy lifting. Well, the bears were remember they'd already done essentially a bit of a deal with the Newtown jets. However, the NRL wanted to make sure that the bears were there. Another says sounds like very poor communication between both NRL and Perth, both sides fault. You know what it sounds like to me? It sounds like to me there's that was stage one of the negotiations. And here comes stage two. And it's back in the ballroom of the Western bears bid. That's what it sounds like to me. 13000117, the sporting capital tonight in the form lounge. Tomorrow is where you will find miles. Fits know we find him on the end of the phone with some race tips. Morning, mate. Hey, before we get some tips, I just want your thoughts on the Everest and the All-Star Mile, both getting group one status. It speaks to recognition, but it also speaks to New South Wales and Victoria doing the unthinkable, actually getting on. Yeah, morning, Matty, morning for the listeners. It is an interesting one. We're on here yesterday, and look, these races were brought in and weren't really well taken up. A lot of people put their money where their mouth was and bought these slots or tried to sort of promote these races and being the Everest and the All-Star Mile. And look, I'm probably leaning towards being against it, a fraction. I mean, it's not open to everyone. You have to negotiate to get a slot. Look, I know that they're trying to do it. So it's for a breeding purpose. You know, the breeders have bought a lot of these slots, and they don't want to run horses. I know we mentioned black type to people, and for the laymen, black type means any race that's listed group three, group two or group one. Now, that then shows up in your breeding book as actual black, bold black lettering. So listed group two, group three, group one. And that's why, on a pedigree sheet, the black type stands out in bold. It's been set like that for years. And that's why they need the Everest to have a status like group one, so that when you're reading down through the pedigrees, it'll have the Everest written, but it'll have their G1 bold in black. And it's sort of the old adage that unless you had the black type running through the pedigree. Now, it's a sensory group one. Anyway, I mean, we saw horses like yes, yes, yes, and whatnot, go through the Everest. I don't know whether or not it was almost needed. But look, we're adding more group ones. As long as we're sort of, we're trying to still sort of filter out some money to the country and some other races and elevate some other races and try and make them better. We don't just really want one ride at the top that's the be all and end all and then everything else doesn't get the attention. If that makes any sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that absolutely does. Yeah. All right, so that's been happening off the track on the track this weekend. Here we go. Let's start at Corfield. Mate, the Herbert Power is race six over 2,400. What do you got here? Well, I was hoping that we could start at that first. Can we run for a 50 Christmas week for you, isn't it? This is your, this week you go to bed and you've got your sort of like holding your old holding racing. No, I hate to burst the bubble, but here's the thing, mate, is it's a work weekend for me. It's always been essentially a work weekend for me for more than a bigger part of my life than not. So I love it. I love the spectacle of it, but I did said I spend most of my week in stats land and making sure that I'm across the whole stack of stuff. So I've done my form guide, just for what it's worth. I've done my form guide, right? And I've gone, I was asked winner and I'm going to sit with car number six of Cam Waters and James Moffatt. I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of the AAA cars wins, but hey, so would everyone. And my smokey is Matt, Payne and Garth Tander. And my best rookie will be the guy who's going to share the car with none other than Craig Lounds and his name is Cooper Murray. So there you go. There's my form guide. We'll see if over the weekend you can convince Paul Dumbrell to get back in the car because that would be one of the old time comebacks. One of the great closure of his old time that I know it's a big how many years just out of interest. How many years are now I'm flipping it back on you? How many years have you been doing? Have you penciled this week ending and you have been there? How many? How many I've been there? Well, I started going there. I went early, early days before my professional career life. And then throughout the early sports tonight days, mate, we were there all the time. And then of course, when the when the split happened with super cars and the two leaders around 97 that was, that's when we were there. So pretty much every year since then and I called my first Bathus on Channel 10. I called it. I was all part of the coverage, but I called it in 2001. So what's that? 23 years since since the first call back there. And then, you know, another five, six, seven years before that. Too many, too many laps. Well, I was in the, I was in the year eight. I was sitting there with my little Ford flag back in 2001 hoping for the absolute best. Hey, let's get stuck into the road. The Herbert Power, mate. Ray six. Let's go. Corfield Herbert Power. Look, interesting middle affair. This as a core field, we've got a host of horses just straight off the top. We've got a host of horses that are dual nominated. So I'm unable to sort of probably lean into a couple of best today because you don't know whether or not they're going to Sydney or Melbourne. We sort of should find out today. The Herbert Power over 2,400 look really interesting race. Post-impressionist is your favorite. Probably expected to kind of bounce back. Gear up's not the worst for Annabelle Neesham. I'm happy to take on horses like the map Herman Hest. They're way too short in the market. Even Mr Wolfgang for the MacCives. I'm going to figure at the top of the market here, you can have a bit post-impressionist and a saver gear up. Okay. Post-impressionist. That's the three and the four. Right. Yeah, three. We're looking at the three and four there. Okay. Need to move on here. The mountain powers. Next, of course, named in honour of one of my favourite ever horses. I'd put mite and power up with sub-zero for me. It's about the hour. Mate, I can tell you it was when we did the Melbourne Cup deal at 10, I was down there and I was with Neil Wilson, who's the chairman out of the VRC. He said, "I want to come over and let's feed mite and power." I grabbed a carrot and was feeding mite and power. I did say it got giddy. I was like, "Oh, I'm in the presence of a champion here." I feel coming onto your show, Maddie. Right. I don't know what's weirder. Well, we're racing the mite and power. I'm going to take on Mr. Brideside after that scene. $1.55 ridiculous. Group one races, anything can happen. Getting really good prices about the six to nine knowledge at 850 and the five are tissue at $5. If you're pro-plumbing, you're backing them. Don't worry about the $1.55. He probably wins. Bad luck gets him beating me. Draws inside, which probably alludes to the fact that there may be another variable, but yeah, we're just backing tissue at $5.6 and the nine knowledge. All right. The guineas, we've got another very short price favorite here in broad-siding. Yeah, look, you get a lot of people to declare this source, but not for me, especially at those odds. I want to be with the four angel capital for Ben Mellon and the McDonald camp. The sources airborne should be shorter than $9.50. I think it's a really good chance. If the track is leader-byes, the blink is going one aruer for the first time, number six at $19. I wouldn't talk you out of it. And if you are having quaddings, make sure you include the other waterhouse bot runner in Mayfair. Those waterhouse horses would be rock-card fit. So five and six small nibbles. Main play is going to be the four angel capital. And again, we just take on the $1.55 because you don't make any money. Okay. I've got to get to the news, mate. So what's your best out of Rose Hill? Rose Hill, we'll go to race four at number two, Henline. And just quickly, the Roman console, Switzerland and perspiration. And then my value of the day in the tap craig, race six, number four, Stolly Bully. Race six, number four. I'm frantically taking these down. Right. Thanks, buddy. We'll speak next week. Enjoy Bathurst. Yeah, no worries, Matty. I certainly will. Miles Fitzner joining us there. I'll run through those race tips, but we've got to get to the news right now. Thank you, Vanessa. Now, don't forget the last listener standing quiz is on and ready to rumble this morning. Coach K, when are we going to do this? Let's say sort of quarter two. Quarter two? Let's do that about then. So quarter to 11 for our Sydney listeners. Quarter to 10 on SCN Q693. Give us a call. 1,301, 170. Five questions. $150 worth of golf gear coming your way, which you can get at golfbox.com.au, Australia's greatest golf superstore. So we'll do that in about 10 or 12 minutes time. 1,301, 170, as I said. Now, just quickly recapping for your core field for Miles Fitzner there, core field race six. Have a look at the three and four, race seven, the six and five, race eight, number four, and race 10, five and six, and probably the best out of Rose Hill, race four, number two, hemline, and race six, number four. We'll put those out on our socials this morning. Now, some of the feedback, both from our combos that we've thrown out there, who do you reckon is your driver combo? If you were in the car, you were on a road trip, you hadn't had to bat this, for instance, you get two sports stars that you want to throw in to anyone's. Really? Who would you like to have in there? Fletcher and Hindi is quite a few shouts on. That's not surprising. Raffa says, "I would have Chasmaster James Court in Cameron Waters and the song 'Dribers Seat' playing as well." Righto, so you've just added someone to the mix. No worries. The sci-fi nerd in me says, Christopher Lee and George Lucas. The comedy nerd says Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais. The sports nut says Tom Brady and Michael Schumacher, and the Aussie sports fans says, "Worn and Richie Beno or Keith Miller." So, "Worny and Richie or warning and Keith." Not bad. Dan, "I'm taking singer on Fletch," says Steve. "Nothing more needs to be said as to why." Correct. Bozah and Dua Lipa. Bozah for the laugh and Lipa to distract us. Davey Reynolds and Chasmaster, because those two loose units, anything could happen. Yeah, Western Sydney Eagle. You're right about that. I hope Davey goes well again. He's an out-and-out champion, both as a driver and as a fella as well. And I hope that he can partner up there. They'll be one of the most experienced pairings. Davey will be at his 17th Bathurst and Warren Luff at his 24th. Now, Luffy's been on the podium a couple of times. He's been second a few times and Davey Reynolds, of course, is a previous winner back in 2017 and could well have won it the year after. There are two driver pairings that have had a combined 39 Bathurst starts. Reynolds and Luff, winner bottom, and Caruso. And Frosty is back again. Of course, he's still in search of a full-time drive for next season. We'll be catching up with Nick Percat a little bit later on the program as well. Another former winner, the key to winning Bathurst. Where does it come from? How do you beat that mountain? Oh, four, five, seven, seven, three, six, seven, three, six. John says, "Okay, this is typical pit of a land he's trying to squeeze more juice out of the grape so his books look good." Perhaps, but isn't that his job? I would say, yes. And this is a negotiation. Now, everybody thought that it was going to be done and dusted because October 10 today was meant to be a day of official announcement. But really interesting here. Now, it's back on the table. So, the biggest takeaway from me out of all of that is now we have the numbers, we have the background, we have the stipulation that wasn't in the official bid document. According to Peter Cummins, the advice was there about a license fee. So, that's the sticking point. The biggest part for me, which I wanted to ask Peter and he, I did, he answered, "Are you prepared to now go back and discuss a license fee?" And the answer to that is yes. So, that means these negotiations are still ongoing from their side. How much? What number can they get to, if any, is the NRL interested in that conversation again? That's now all the rest of it. Matty, listening to that interview with Peter, it sounds like an old school Mexican standoff. Unfortunately, for the Western Bears, PVL won't be the first one to blink. No, let's not forget too that, sure, we know how Peter Villainty's operates, absolutely. You don't have that kind of success in what he's done without being able to operate like that. Don't underestimate Peter Cummins either. Matty's money through the cash converters empire, essentially, been in business a long time. So, perhaps this is just a stage. Tony says, "Make great chat with Peter, every question I had, you asked. I must say it's been a bad week for PVL for the New South Wales rugby league NRLW presentation with only blokes on stage and now this bears debacle. 0457736. Now, right, let's do our last listener standing quiz. We will take a break. Give you time to call. You've got to be in it to win at 1 300 01 1170. Hit the phones now and join our quiz right after this. It's time for Mat's last listener standing quiz. It is. Let's hook straight in. Thanks to GolfBox. You can shop at golfbox.com.au. Today, I'm going to test your Bathurst 1000 knowledge on this one. Anthony, we're going to begin with you. You're out and about. Good morning, mate. You ready to rumble? Yeah, ready to go, matey. Okay, Craig Lowndes won his first Bathurst 1000 back in 1996, Anthony. Who was Lowndes's co-driver that year? Greg Murphy. Yes. One out of one. One out of one. Here's one. Who's the last Australian-born driver to win the Bathurst 1000? We had plenty of Kiwis. We have Jamie Winkup. No, no, no, no. There's been plenty of Aussies since they hold on there. Adam, let's go to you. Good morning. I want to know the last Australian as well? No, no. It wasn't lousy. Hang on, hang on. Jeff is there. Morning, Jeff. Do you know this one? The last Australian-born driver. With the guard candor. It was, mate. G2. Yeah. So last year, Shane Van Gisberg and Richie Stanaway won it. The two Kiwis. And in 2022, SPG again. But guard candor was there as the co-driver, born in Perth and the other two born in New Zealand. Okay, mate. Here we go with question number three. From which starting position did Chas Mossett and Paul Morris come from to win the Great Race back in 2014? Where did they start? No idea. Have a guess. No, it wasn't night. It wasn't night. Hang on there. Anthony. Anthony, we're back to you. Where did Chas and Paul Morris come from to win it in 2014? Wow. Last. That's right. Yeah. Last to first. They started 25th on the grid that year and they ended up winning it. And that was the first of Chasie Boys and he'll be in with a shot this time. Okay, a bit of an audio question for you. And I reckon you'll get this one. What did this, this shootout lap back in 2003 become known as this lap? He holds it together through the chase. And Greg Murphy listened to the crowd roar. The hold and supporters love it. He has released the shackles on car 51 and he is going straight to Paul position for the five JT by 2000 Murphy. And please, come on. Nice. That was record. That's nuts. What idiot said that? What did that become known as? Lap of the gods. Lap of the gods made it was. It was. Did you get goosebumps like I did? Yeah, no, it was great to watch it even for a 14. Unfortunately that year, mate, you're never going to stop that thing. Okay, last question for you here, Anthony, and I reckon you are on the road to success. How many laps is the Bathurst 1000? 161. That famous number. Good on you, mate. I'm going to send you back to coach K and we will get you a voucher. Anthony, our winner today thanks to Golf Box Australia's greatest golf superstar. So the Bathurst quiz went like this. Loudsy won his first. There's a chance this week that he could become an eight time winner of this race. Just stop and think about that for a sec. Now, Brock's on nine. He could become an eight time winner and a very fair chance too. Because they had a good run at Sandown. He won his first back in 1996 with Greg Murphy, who was the co-driver. The last Aussie-born driver, well, he was born in Perth GT. Garth Tanda was the last Australian-born driver to win the Bathurst 1000. That was in 2022, sharing it with Shane van Gisberg and Garth and Matt Payne are my smokies for this weekend. Garth, because it's Garth and Matt Payne's got the temperament to handle the kind of stuff that a weekend like that is going to throw at you and never underestimate the power of having somebody who knows all about that with you. Honestly, from the moment they drive into town, it's very, very different, the whole setup. Where did Chaz and Paul Morris come from to win it back in 2014 from last? For the Ford Pepsi Max crew that year in the Falcon, the shootout lap in '03 became known as the lap of the gods and how many laps is the Bathurst 1000, 161, around that 6.213 kilometer circuit. Ironically, of course, the Sanddown 500 is running over the same amount of laps. Form guide, for me, you always look for, obviously, fast car and where do you get that where you get that throughout the season, that form line. You look for great team and good teams that know what to do at Bathurst. Where do you get that throughout the season, plus recent history, if not long history? But then you start to go towards drivers that are critically close to each other when it comes to lap times plus experience. So you've got your main driver and then you've got your B driver. And the main driver will do the heavy lifting. We'll do 107 laps out of the 161. So the B driver minimum laps is 54. And so I always look towards driver pairings that have them as close as possible in terms of, okay, how much am I going to lose here by putting a co-driver in the car per lap? What's the difference between me and you? And if I'm the main driver? So that's part of it is well, throwing luck and obviously throwing experience. So when I look at that form guide, I think at the very top of the tree, you've got to keep your Red Bull and pole races there of Will Brown and Scott Pi one sand down in the right team. Two pretty experienced Scotty with now 12 starts at Bathurst and Will just knows how to go fast there and one earlier there this year in the Bathurst 500 start to the season championship. The other Red Bull car, Brock Feeney and Jamie Winkup knows a thing or two about winning and is also the team boss. So there's two that go straight to the top of my list. Chaz Mossett and Lee Holzworth go straight to the top of my list. The only car in the race that will have two drivers driving together that have both won the race and they've won it before together back in 2021. And then I look at Cam Waters and James Moffat, very experienced both have been on the podium twice, know each other inside out and that car's fast. I reckon if everything goes their way, I'm tipping them to win the great race. And I would love to see obviously Moff and Cam but Moff calling throughout the season here with us on SCN. So there's a bit of a form line form guide for you. That's how I go about it. How do you go about it? You can let me know. 0457736 Welcome back. Okay, quick check of Sheffield Shield cricket going on at the moment. We'll start a cricket central in New South Wales and South Australia have been bowled out for 260. Alex Carey posted 90 yesterday so ended up the top scorer there, 55 to Nathan McSweeney. Nathan Lyon claimed five foot 47 off 24.3 overs, two wickets to Tan vs Sanger and the other wickets to Liam Hatcher and Jack Edwards. So innings break there with South Australia trailing New South Wales by 106 runs. The Victorian the or Victoria of the Tasmania at the moment, well Tasmania trail by 210 with six wickets remaining. So Victoria declared nine for 428 on their first innings and we went through that the other day with some pretty big scores along the way 143 to Marcus Harris, Peter Hampson, Hanskin with 129 and 58 knot for Mitchell Perry. And at the moment the Tassie Tigers are four for 218. Jordan Silk not out 57, bow Webster not out 39 there in that one. So they're the two matches that are underway at the moment and we'll continue to keep you updated with those and don't forget too that we will bring you some odds with Jared Daffey as well. Western Australia the Queensland and Queensland will resume today at three for 185 so trailing by 280 with those seven wickets remaining once all that gets underway. 0457736736. So we do have the Chronicle headlines now to get through as well. 045773676. I just said sending your headlines coach Kay will give us his, we'll run the rule over those and see where that gets. Maddy funny story about the mustard Morris win says Western Sydney Eagle. When it was announced that Paul Morris was partnering Chas I commented online that Morris was past it. Morris saw the comment gave it to me which I deserved. Then on race weekend I put 10 bucks on them as a smoky or paying 80. They don't lead any lap apart from the last one and they win and so do I. Uh-huh so you cop your medicine from your online comment but then you're back to them anyway. In regards to the NRL expansion situation a couple of texts here. Maddy the big smoky I'm hearing is the second New Zealand team out of the South Island Christchurch based had a new $650 million stadium due to be finished 2026 will be ready to go for 2027. I think the only thing that we can really say about this expansion issue is that the pecking order is the one thing. Weirdly enough it's been the only constant in all of this and the constant is that it keeps changing. One minute it seems as I pop a New Guinea enemy next. The next minute it seems as though the western bears are going to be next and now you can pick up the rumor mill and get the Christchurch could be coming in and leapfrogged a lot of them. So there's just a lot of confusion around this one but a lot of moving parts as well. We're heading off to the SCN Newsroom. Nick Percat will be my guest in our next hour as well. Earlier this morning on the program I had the western bears bid chief Peter Cummins join us. I will play you some of what Peter told me this morning around the license fee situation where this whole thing is at. The conversations that he had with the NRL when all of this came about. On Monday the western bears bid consortium members were in Sydney speaking with executives that they hadn't lined up to essentially run their entire show and were deep in the detail which is when the call came. So this is all around the license fee and that's the big sticking point. I will play that in just a second. Also coming up this hour Nick Percat from Bendix Racing. So a lot to get through over the course of the next hour on the program and you can be part of it. Thanks to All-Tell 13011170 All-Tell is your business outsourcing partner. Tab we're on. Chances are you're about to lose. Jared Daffy's on the line this morning. Hi Daff. How are you mate? You ready to rumble? Yeah good things Matt. Yeah I'm ready to rumble. I mean we've got football out of the way to some degree. There's still a little bit to come but there's plenty of sport coming on isn't there? Yeah and tonight at the Adelaide Oval it's crunch time isn't it? Gee there's some interest in this for the Socceroos. Not just for their opponents in this one and what it means but the Tony Popovitch era starts. You're right about that and I mean we look at prices you think well that's a foregone conclusion but we've seen that of recent times with the Socceroos and it didn't pan out that way but there's the shortest they've been tonight a dollar and 12. So we're talking winks out there a draw at eight dollars in China the rank outside is a $21 plenty of markets open on that but you would hope that the Socceroos can get the job done. Yeah okay so we'll follow that one tonight now I've been doing a fair deep dive and I ran through my form guide for the Bathurst 1000. What are your numbers saying for how it plays out on Sunday? Well I figured you'd be all over this. We've got equal favourites and it's such a tough race to predict isn't it? Green and wind cup and brown and pie are the equal favourites at 450 ahead of Moss dirt and holdsworth of course they've won it before. They're at 550 waters and Moffatt at 650 Castelli Hosewood 7 pain and tandruff 9 and the rest of 15 or better just on that by the way there's live bedding throughout the race on Sunday but be curious to get your thoughts. It's good to know that there's live bedding daff I'll tell you that much because it's a bloody long day right and yeah but you're right but but also just on that I mean we bet right up until probably the last lap or two because haven't we seen some rather bizarre finishes in years gone by? Because bizarre things happen there that that's one of the key points of difference about about Bathurst you know what might not happen at a at a Tasmania or a street race in Adelaide will happen at Bathurst you know it's just the there are too many variables. My thoughts on that is I'm not surprised that the the top contenders that you read out because they're exactly the top contenders that I've got to be there at the end of the day. I'm leaning towards Cam Waters and James Moffatt for a number of reasons mostly because of emotional Moff calls with us here on SEM but I also think that that car's been very fast they know what they're doing around there it's an absolute race to try and beat the Red Bulls and I like the look of pain and tander as a nine dollar smoky they will be if things go their way they should be there at the end because the 50 odd laps that Garth tander does as opposed to the 107 laps that Matt Payne will have to do shouldn't be too far away relatively speaking with time so okay that's the kind of way that I let's as forensic as I'm going to get on your death um but I like those numbers. I can live with that six dollars fifty and nine dollars that'll do me yeah I thought you'd be happy with those right two twenty uh women's cricket uh Australia just continue to roll on their house the market's there they do uh the girls are in action again on Saturday morning our time one a.m. dollar and five to eat Pakistan at nine dollars been a few little changes to win it one thing that hasn't changed is Australia red light favorites a dollar sixty five England and now the second picks at four dollars India had a good win overnight but there's still seven dollars in South Africa 13 but it's ours to lose we've been odds on since the market first went up and that has not changed okay and just one from the world of racing we've done our tips with miles um just short to a short time ago the mite and power at corefield I love this race it's a million dollar race group one it's over the two thousand meters mr bright side so so tight at the moment looking at around the dollar fifty five dollar fifty mark that's right uh pride of Jenny didn't accept for that race and didn't except for the tour IKEA so we'll see you next week probably so it's left up the mr bright side obviously with some of these big races coming up uh like the cox plate it's imperative that uh they perform well on Saturday and he's priced up as though he should win mr bright side a dollar fifty five as you mentioned the Sydney side at jay mac and see while a good combination five dollars to nine dollars there's been a bit of interest there eleven into eight and the rest of fourteen or better but uh there's not too many really want to be on anything to beat the champ mr bright side yeah just eight in the field and out of that eight three into single figures at the moment good on your mate have a great weekend coming up we'll speak again next week thanks matt tab we're on chances are you're about to lose for free and confidential support visit gambling help online dot org dot au jerry daffy joining us there as you might have heard in the news corry oats has called time on his career family and injuries the main reasons there so that's popped up on the Brisbane Broncos website and he will finish his career as a one club player which is an extraordinary feat for the 29 year old so 216 games made his taboo back in 2013 and along the way played nine games for Queensland so corry was off contract at the end of the season anyway and last month had confirmed that he had no offer for next season from the Bronx and of course michael maguire now in charge there 15 games in 2024 this season obviously after only nine in the year before so instead of trying to go to the UK or test himself he's decided to call it quits and spend time with these kids with these families so congratulations to your corry that's a stellar achievement a stellar career and we wish you all the best in retirement right let's go back to bathers mount panorama the focus nik percat from bendix racing getting ready yet again you can put your foot down with confidence with bendix breaks good morning nik how you feeling mate couple of days away from the big one but here we go i'm good just enjoying the beautiful weather at mount panorama at the moment waiting for practice one yeah what's the scenario i was doing a bit of weather forecasting and as you and i both know you can look at the forecast and then you can get to the top of the mountain and stiff from what the forecast tells you and it's different sometimes what your team will tell you in pit lane yeah 100 percent you need um some people at the top and you need some people in a town about this and some people in orange give you the info so um yeah so far looks good but uh it's just be nice to yeah hit the track into nice sunny conditions and get a feel for it for today and um yeah ramp it up as i obviously tomorrow heading into quality and um in the race this will be your 14th crack at bathers mate and obviously there's so much focus on that 2011 race and the win i don't know if i've ever spoken to you about what happened before the win because that's the talking point of that weekend but but what do you remember about your that first bathist you know before you before it became so damn good at the end were you were you scared were you nervous were you what was that what was the thought process for that young nick percat who went up there for the first time as a super car driver oh probably shooting myself yeah it's um obviously pretty daunting um you know it's your first one with that team in the situation so yeah tried to work my way into it slowly and then i was too polite with loundy and ran myself up into the marbles when i probably could have just driven around ahead of him but um yeah it's um that was all a massive learning and a lot of info coming in that day of how to run that race because you know i found myself racing against um great lounge at one point mucks gave at one point um and obviously and wink up so um it's not like i was just out there with some other curry drivers that have never done it before or some you know guys that weren't in those types of positions i just went up straight up against the best which was pretty crazy upon reflection um and yeah decided to do it one little slip up you know held my own and kept us in the race all day and then it had a great great time hey mate what is it like when when you're that young and you're that green and you are in the cut and thrust of trying to keep the thing on the track and making sure that you do your job and then you come up alongside or near a lounge or a wind cup or another legend of the sport how do you get your mind back onto the job of what you've got to do because it's not like driving around you know in the streets and and you see somebody famous next to you can't sort of have a gork and and take your time you got to get back to business otherwise you're in the wall yeah hundred percent it was um probably lucky obviously we did film island is the warm-up um to bath this and you know normally it's sand now but that year it was film island and um i was really quick there and i passed gay fee in the right in the co-driver race and stuff like that so it wasn't um two-dooring thing but i was remembering to myself you know i kind of know these guys um from watching them and i know their tactics and their driving styles from watching them um so yeah i kind of felt like i was pretty well educated on that side i was more just the speed of the race um when you're saving for your wind saving tires when you're having a crack and stuff like that all right it's been a good season so far for you you've featured heavily in the top tens you've had a couple of race wins along the way didn't work your way in sand down what's the focus from a team perspective and and what do you and Dylan sit around talking about and what's the strategy here um oh it's no different to any other weekend we're here to try and win it um and yeah give put our best foot forward and have a big crack and um yeah Dylan's been good he's obviously got cup car this weekend as well so he's getting plenty of track time um and then when he jumps in my car he you know the job he needs to do and he's he's looking for a bit of redemption from sand down so yeah he's worked really hard between events and with the with the team and with our um our engineer jack so it's um i think we're in a we're in a good spot and looking forward to you know thing how we all we both roll out i'm obviously was here at the start of the year and we're at we're at the front then so yeah i'm hoping it's pretty similar to the start of the year we can drive around you know in that top five um comfortably would be would be you know just a nice weekend keep it simple yeah keep it nice and easy and just roll out 160 old laps on sunday and away you go just how much of a benefit is having the season this year start at mount panorama so we had the two races the bath is 500 there what it means in in pure you know geeky terms is what it means mate is that you've got relative and fresh data from the track and your performance at the track in this car this year as opposed to turning up this time around and going okay what did we do 12 months ago is there is that a benefit um it definitely would be benefits obviously in the off season you know the car's got aero testers and um the parity change so you know when we roll it up this year the cars were that little bit different um compared to how we raced them 12 months ago here so um yeah i think the main thing is we've probably got more relative fuel numbers um probably no a bit more about the tyre deck um and then from the driver side it's just another race around bathurst where you get you get to have a go around here because the more laps do the the better um so yeah i think it's good for my side obviously the last time i drove here was in my MSR car not not in the previous car so it's just all kind of novel and um yeah it'll be a little bit different obviously the fuel loads will run this weekend versus what we ran at that sprint kind of format um will be a little bit different but other than it's um pretty straight away all right so practice today there's two sessions there's one coming up at 20 past one daylight saving time that's for all drivers and then the one later on in the afternoon is for co drivers only so there's basically what two hours worth of practice out there what do you go in search of today what answers are you looking for today and how much track time will you get today um so for my side it's probably more just uh go through the procedures make sure everything is good make sure the car feels right um the track can be obviously very green in comparison to um what we would have come friday afternoon for quality so yeah it's probably more just get your eye in make sure the car is fine give Dylan plenty of laps i think we're going to practice start at the end of practice one um yeah it's more just ticking the boxes make sure we're ready to go come friday are they quality um so yeah it's uh it's for a procedures day i think um it's less risk taken it's but you're not really looking at the timesheet so much more thinking about the race car balance and and where you're stuck up yeah all right and just a final one so we'll have qualifying as you as you say on what's that friday afternoon then saturday by then we'll know the full grid with the shootout how do you sleep on saturday night yeah is it i remember speaking escape he made it and and he said to me like seriously you wouldn't imagine the amount of laps i do in my head over and over and over or even when i'm trying to get to sleep or i'm sound asleep so do you park it all right on saturday night or are you a bit of a toss and turn wreck um anytime i have a nearly alarm it's a disaster so it doesn't matter if i'm flying somewhere or what if there's a nearly alarm you kind of feel like you've forgotten to set it so um yeah there's been in in bathers where i feel like i rocked up with three hours sleep and then there's some there are very slept good eight nine but it's um probably like at the draw to be honest and yeah yeah if you're at the front you're probably pretty comfortable because your car's behaving um but if you're probably in the 20s or outside the top 15 you're probably not comfortable with the car um so you probably have a little bit of a a nervous sleep because you know what's the end of your following day all right mate well listen drive safe go well have a great weekend and we'll catch up next week awesome sounds good nick perk out there for bendix racing bendix breaks proud sponsor of matt stone racing and of course nick just one of those drivers that like i've said time and time again gets it he's pretty pretty chilled as you can hear but it's it's a very unique week too so you think about it today they've got their first practice session in let's call it a couple hours they'll have one practice session there and they'll have another practice session where it's co-drivers only so think of that up from a from a driver's perspective there's a lot of stopping and starting that goes around from thursday into friday they'll have a little testing session in the morning tomorrow then um you've got a bit of qualifying going on a bit more practice it's broken up over a very long schedule then saturday's a super long day because you've got to get all the way to the afternoon if you're in the top 10 to be part of that shootout that's on it five past five local times so five past four queensland time so think of that and then on sunday morning another long day they don't sleep they rarely sleep and they up very very early in at the track when it's pitch black warm up is from 815 and it's 20 minutes and it's probably one of the nastiest sessions because it's so weird you want to roll the car out there and just get a handle on it so to speak you don't want any dramas you're not really going to learn too much you just got to go through the process as nick said that's from 815 local time till 835 and then the race doesn't start for another three hours well there are abouts it's an 1130 start for our city listeners 1030 start for queensland so it gives you an idea of just how checkerboarded this whole process is from the bathurst 1000 great to catch up with young Nicholas percat it's 20 minutes after the hour now some news out of the pacific championship squads from both the Australian and New Zealand side well the biggest news is probably out of the New Zealand side because it's just dropped that the deli and middle winner girome hues has been ruled out of the campaign for this month he was named in that 21 man squad just after their grand final loss to penrith girome however under after a further medical assessment has been told he won't be fit to play understandably shattered says stacey jones and we really feel for him he had an outstanding year and he was going to play a key role he was desperate to play they thought with some time that he would come right with treatment but he's since received medical advice advice that he won't play because of that troublesome neck injury so there's a huge loss for the keyways girome hues has been ruled out and they will name their replacement soon meanwhile the replacement for the injured leon martin so leon martin out of the kangaroos squad hudson young has been added to that squad and tyron wish art comes in for that first match against the png prime ministers 13 so that's the rather the prime ministers 13 squad their nat butcher has also been withdrawn from the pms 13 squad due to illness so as expected simmons and outs for our representative teams at the moment but that's a big out for the kiwi's pacific championships campaign with girome hues unfortunately ruled out that neck injury uh 1-300-01-11-70 is our open line number we'll be going to the news shortly after the news headlines from the sn newsroom we'll get coach k to come on in with his chronicle headlines now i think he's gone again around bathurst um and he's limbering up for them he's not a full motorsport head so this is going to be interesting to see how he goes with his headlines for the bathurst 1000 on the nrl expansion front some of your thoughts on the text line once again says 825 here on the text i feel it would be very disrespectful to get a team to pay so much to join and then expect them to spend tens of millions of dollars on training facilities and then slowly give them the money back through dividends um i'll play a little bit more of peter comans on my program a bit earlier this morning if you've missed it maddie says i wholeheartedly believe that south new zealand should be the 18th team i'm a bears fan and want them back wherever fits but once at 18 teams the game needs to look at relocation before teams 19 and 20 come in too many teams in Sydney yeah thanks maddie like i said if you followed the bouncing ball on this one you get a sore neck because it's bouncing in all directions um 18 19 20 and it didn't seem too long ago that we were thinking as in very very recently we're thinking 18 perth 19 png 20 possibly um west of Brizzy or the other way and over to New Zealand but that's just been turned on its head the NRL supports each club to the tunes of millions why would you buy into the comp and give the NRL money that should be invested into the club to ensure it could and should be successful when eventually that money will be given back to you says 825 so it's obviously the right of the NRL as the league itself to put in whatever they decide into a bid application and according to Peter Cummins there was no official stipulation in those bid documents to say you should pay a license fee it was a bit of of advice some strong advice give them from Peter Beatty so they've got the right to ask for it doesn't mean that you have to put it there but now it's a sticking point because it's not there and they did ask for it verbally but it's not there so back to the table they go how big is the check and are the Western Bears willing to write one now it's probably the biggest question let's go to the newsroom stay tuned the coach K Chronicle the headlines coming up take me into what you see live at Bathurst in your commentary role are you in a studio with standard by tv's or are you seeing it live can you take us into what your commentary yep look like for you sure can i'll take you into the into the tv commentary booth in particular it's both live and exactly what you described there tv monitors timing monitors some expert analysis going on along the side as well plus some predictors if you if you like so the way that it's positioned at each track panther pita's position differently just like pretty much you know race tracks aren't football fields so you don't have a commentary box up in the grandstand you have it wherever you can get it in in Bathurst it is halfway up pit lane and it leans out over pit lane so what do you see from a commentary position away from the tv you see the front straight and a bit of it but you also do have pit lane directly underneath you so unless the tv cameras are on it or you're being told or you can see on the timing monitors then your reference point of view of who's coming into pit lane or who's exiting pit lane for that matter is a visual one the rest is is pretty much off the screens and you call most sport when you're calling it for tv in particular you're calling what you see is what i see um and then obviously there's a whole stack of other information that we garner from being there speaking to the people the resources that we've got the analysis that we've got and the people on the ground in in the garage that's kind of it is a snapshot mate thanks Matt have a great weekend and look forward to your call all best good on you thank you Pete yeah really appreciate it yeah it's it's a different one there's no doubt about it um the commentary box i'll i'll tell you this on a on an emotional level when i'm calling at Bathurst when i've been calling at Bathurst over the years it's a like i just said for you for the drivers it's a really long weekend now when we were doing the tv broadcast it's 22 hours i think we're on air from friday all the way through to sunday and think of that think of a 22-hour grand final right and then narrow it down to the race which is six-in-a-bit hours think of a six-hour grand final that's kind of what it's like i used to take a moment on sunday morning because we'd already been on air on friday we'd already been on air on saturday and i used to take a moment on sunday morning which is a long long long day in just commentary let alone hosting the thing where it was pitch black and i'd work from the tv compound which is behind the grandstand behind pit lane or behind the pit lane complex i should say not grandstand and i used to walk across to the con box i don't know what time it was five five 30 or something like that and i used to take a moment just to stop and soak it in normally it's a beautiful sunrise that you see far off in the distance and i used to just take a moment there to soak it in because you've done all your work you've done all your research you've you're ready to rumble you're ready to go but it is a very important day to a lot of people and it's an important sort of social day and cultural day to australia so i used to take a moment just to soak it up and understand what was going to happen on that day because normally something special would happen and it was only just a beat or two 30 seconds maybe where i just stopped have a look around because the rest of the day is make up on and let's start talking and then the biggest part of that rest of the day is full-blown commentary where your head spins and i'll take you one further pan for Pete and i'm sure a lot of commentators in the world will say this but after bathurst i was saying this to somebody last night it feels like you're jet lagged that's what i used to feel it used to dead set take me until about wednesday to start to feel any sort of sense of normality because you're wrung out to dry you are completely stuffed one more on bathurst driving into the track one day with mark mark larkam and laka and i were telling tales and he spoke to me i said to him just as a mate i said mate what is he said tell me what is it the former pole sitter there what is it and he told me about it's the only place you come out of pit lane and you pull the seat belt down you get both hands and you pull the thing down the harness and then he said to me you know what you do maddy you do it again when you come up over the hill you pull it down again and you know why because you don't get another opportunity unlike any other circuit you do not get another opportunity so you come out of pit lane you pump your brakes pull down on that harness just when you come it over the first rise pull down again and then it's hold on folks hold on 045773736 now let's do the chronicle now coach k we want your headlines it's now time for coach k's chronicle oh yes yes yes yes all right mate i'm looking forward to these i'm glad you are because i'm a little bit nervous as i always am out of each week so when you say that there's heaps of pressure on me so we'll start off first and foremost with the bathist i hope i said that right listen it's bathist bathist headline here we go now because he's our very own we love him here perfect percat pushes himself to bath his glory yeah yeah yeah okay good i'm glad that's not controversial because i believe it's one more word that we were allowed oh that's right i forgot about the word economy yeah but you've already cleared it so that's fine so in that case i'm going to give it a tick yeah gee you moved on quickly tick it is um now maddy the other one here we go now i've got i've got a few more are they all bathist not not at all okay only one of them was only one of them was uh gunners shoot down bournemouth in four one romp so not only am i predicting arsenal wind but i'm also predicting the score gunners shoot down bournemouth i say in four one romp no you're not sure i'm on the fence here between which stinger i click judging by because you're on the fence i'm going to give you my son okay i'll clear that because you're too nice you didn't want to say it but i'll say it for you now next one save cooks up storm in typan's demolition yeah see that's in your wheelhouse very much so i was thinking about it all night here we go soccer who's silky display chokes china so at the moment i'm about uh let's go three from four so i like it yeah that's good that's good so soccer is silky choking china so you've gone the double alliteration double that's what i'm looking for wow that's that's new territory right i so that that was it the four that the four is it i like it we'll put out a list and there's normally ones that go but if you put in three like the pearl wall accepted so so just for the parameters for today are we preparing then to relax the boundaries around the four um four words only rule i think we have to because we have to now we've allowed you an extra word or two but just be prepared though yes that you're not necessarily going to be right even if it sounds good if you put one extra word because you're flirting with danger like i was yeah yeah yeah but but our listeners are savvy yeah they are very very savvy and we come up with some absolute clangers along the way here all right so there's the challenge for coach k's chronicle um batheist yeah we can go any which way soccer ruse tonight pacific championships i mean can anyone come up with something around the expansion hmm that'd be good one a bit of a topical topical headline political maybe but topical nonetheless and of course batheist would be the focus oh four five seven seven three six seven three six is our text line fire them in we will pass judgment on them soon we want your headlines it's now time for coach k's chronicle well this is where you get to judge us coach k i'm not buying into this one by the way i i'm just going to leave it up to our listeners and the headlines have come in are you ready i'm ready let's do it okay from pg lounge laps up legend status yeah good yeah bungee titan says uh the headline Reynolds rejects ridiculous race ruling hmm i'm sure javie Reynolds rejects ridiculous race ruling well no okay no nrl bid to go west goes south yeah nice for some logic that was five two fives statsie how much can a western bear perth to flinch first in game of chicken with pvl perth to flinch first in game of chicken with pvl so if there's a subheading there yeah which we don't normally allow no but if you just do the heading ticket oh by the way nick maddison out for eight in new south Wales second innings consters and jilks out there uh sam consters uh not out 11 that's not out uh 17 so one for 38 for new south wiles okay so stats he got a thumbs up um four four four on the text line says western bears up in the air see i would have said i would have said western bears up in the years yeah this is why the professional man just silly play on words yeah no i'm just a goose um my headline is the play on a song mustang chazee after moster wins bathurst yeah i like it as it from do i what song was that mustang sally okay i don't think i've heard it but i'll take your word for it okay yeah mustang sally and he's gone mustang chazee okay nice yeah it's why it mustang right yeah pvl sends bears into hibernation oh yeah see i like that one yeah technically not correct because pvl has said the bears part is safe yes their hibernation will will be over so he's saying wa bid at the moment no yeah bears you're okay jeez you're critical matty no so technically i like i said i like it so i'm happy with the thumbs up i just want to point out the technical point perth bids perth's bid cupboard is bear uh two wordy yeah it is covered his bear yeah you know the rules sorry kayama kiwi just not too wordy just too hard to say china poos on sokaroos just because it made me laugh i'm gonna dig it yeah that's from yeah that's from uh six six eight west's bid goes south is another one from tony um i've already had that one oh i was just about to say that next one from dave thank you for that dave around the kangaroos but if i say that i'll be the one who's kangaro you know what it uh bring on bathers will be interesting uh okay the rule that supercars are bringing with the last five races the final formats that nazcar use is just a quite there from bundy time mountain roars is mustard sores yeah big fan you're all right yep tazie devil says perth dirth bears bard so this isn't nah okay well there's only a few words there which is that you can give that a tick bit nah i don't think i followed that one too too careful either way matt says three words is all that's needed so he he reckons that the headline should be narrowed down even further see that's tough i'm maddie i love it but no i don't think we can do that i don't think so but however he has given us three words for his headline okay which is a good headline franchise in demise yeah well done that's very well done yeah that's that's pretty good uh lounge eight in car triple eight yes that's good do you want me to explain that one yeah please do for the people that don't know please explain okay so lounge is going for bathers win number eight and they are driving in car eight eight eight car triple eight super cheap auto entry water okay so he's he's put that together there that was from brendon on that one um that's it for the headlines that that's that's a pretty good little solid effort in there um out of those i'm liking the ones around the western bears i think they were sort of a little bit uh how much can a western bear was good yeah starts you all done yeah western bears up in the years i would have gone with as i said but so i'm going to add an s to that one i do like franchising demise yes yeah matt's matt's go oh couple of last ones this is what always this is exactly what happens okay um matt from woolen gong has said we have to excuse the word limit violation so he he knows that he's violating the rules here okay here we go you're ready yes mary's clearly quite sorry see they're clearly thing mary's clearly quite contrary panther's gun garden grows in stunning super league sojourn i would love to know how long that has taken to figure that out and think about it before it was actually text it in yeah but i will give that a tick for the creativity fantastic i'll give myself yeah um yeah for how i read it out i just wasn't i just wasn't at the top of my game there i need to lift 10 15 20 percent now seven five six is no name on this one but i do like this bears unpurfed well played well played aussie's give india curry oh come on that's that's old school yeah um bears unpurth yeah i want to know your name on that one seven five six that's a good little session um we're done we're done we're done oh i want to give a shout out two three seven one of the first to text into i actually don't we don't have a name there but two three seven police text in mountain roars as mustard sores yes i like it we did have that one do we have the name do we just two three seven i thought that was bren anyway that we did we definitely had that one there and we and we liked it um and could well happen may well still how tight do you race do you think the race will be then there's gonna be a blowout or anything will be tight no i think there'll be i think there'll be yeah quite a few contenders at the back end of this one yeah i don't think anyone's going to race away with it yeah too hard up there too many too many variables at what lap do you tend to see the massive change so so the last 20 laps is where it's where it all goes down yeah yeah that's where you you've got to make sure that you're there you're in the hunt you're ready to go you've got all your ducks lined up and your car's still going to bruise yeah bruise nicely so the first 139 odd laps or whatever so first 140 just waiting for an instant barber that's it yeah right let's take our final break here then we'll come back and wrap it up hey you know what coach k here's a couple of very late contenders a chronicle for jimmy this week after all his days off jim's in the bin that's not bad well jim's back jimmy's back his first day since the grand final so we'll get to here his take on how it all played out on sunday and what it all means but jimmy smith is coming up and here's a couple of absolute doozy's coach k not even goldilocks can save the bears that's not bad but why didn't we think of this perth drop bears sis that one from 903 on the tech slide there so i reckon there's your winner as always the late one one for 42 new south whales in their second innings against south australia of course uh queens and bulls and w a still to get under way so uh jimmy will keep you across all of that plenty of news in and around the world of football the prime minister's 13 squad a few changes their geroem hues hues rather has been ruled out of the kiwi specific championship squad so plenty to dig through there uh jimmy's back folks have a great week that's it for me hope you can join us on sunday james and myself and paul dumbrill will be here for the bathurst race day so we'll touch base then if not do it all again on monday morning bye for now
