Welcome to another episode of Ryan's method, passive income podcast. Here's your host, Ryan Hogue. In this video, I want to talk about trending niches and why it's so important to get out ahead of them as early as possible. I want to draw from my experience back at the very beginning when I first started selling on Amazon because those principles and back then I was selling Amazon FBA. I didn't even know what Pernan demand was, but those same principles that applied then apply just as equally to getting out ahead of trending niches, ideally before they trend with Pernan demand. So I want to talk you through some examples in this video. Let's get to it. All right, let's dive straight into it. We're going to be using merch, Dominator for our research. I just want to show you how I've been getting out ahead of trending niches. But also not just show you like what could possibly be emerging niches. Like I sometimes do with these videos, I will be doing that. But then I want to look at the current best sellers that we could have spotted using this method that I'm going to show you. So first things first, the way that I make this a part of my daily routine, OK, the way that I start my research process is I go to MBA and KDP and then I click best sellers in merch, Dominator, OK, and I'll link to it in the description. If you want to follow along, I will also zoom in. So it's easier to see now. What I'm going to do here, it's got the best sellers right here behind me. And it tries to filter out. It's a manual process. It tries to filter out anything that is a protected brand. Like sometimes you see, you know, professional sports or even college sports. You got to skip past those. If any slipped through the cracks, always do your research. And then right here where it says sorting, switch that to newest, OK, and hit search again. This is my single, like biggest, like most favorite way of doing niche research of 2024. I wasn't doing it before 2024, but now that I know about it, yeah, I do it all the time. All right. Um, and I mean, what do you know, this wasn't planned. All right, I'm recording this on Monday, October 7th, but it looks like there could be any merging trend. I see a Trump shirt that says, as I was saying, all right, with a picture of Trump, then what do I see again? Three down to the right. Another one that says, as I was saying, then I'm looking over a couple more, like maybe two more and it says, as I was saying, Trump 2024, when I start seeing repetition like that, that is a signal to me that this could be a potential emerging trend. I might not have done a great job explaining this, but essentially what you're seeing behind me are shirts that were posted in the last 24 to 48 hours on average that have sold Amazon actually makes both those data points available to us. So it's extremely valuable that we can let, you know, however, merch nominators doing this, I assume they're using scrapers. They're using bots that automate the process of finding and indexing these products. You look at the first date, the date first available that Amazon shows us. And then you look at best sellers rank or BSR for short. If a product has not sold, it will not have a BSR. If it has sold, it has a BSR, the lower, the better. So when I see multiple products, they don't have best seller BSRs, but they have a BSR and they've been posted in the last 24 hours, in this case, the Trump shirt that says, as I was saying, to me, that says, okay, something is here. I, and this is, I mean, I've been talking about this for a while now, but with the political niche, especially, you don't know how big these are going to get. We have seen the biggest niche I've ever seen as an Amazon merch seller was let's go branded, right? And that was a political themed niche. People get really charged over the political stuff. You know better than I do most likely because it's an election year. I'm completely unplugged other than through t-shirt niches, but I'm just saying, man, like if people get emotional about it, you can sell a t-shirt. Just keep it simple. Let's say that. So that could be a potential new niche and I will be selling it. All right. I might already be selling it. Who knows? Right? I don't exactly have to tell you what my niches are, but just because I see it here, I'm most likely going to sell it on more than just a t-shirt, right? I'm going to sell it on, you know, a hat. I'm going to sell it on a mug. I'm going to sell it on a tank top. You know what I mean? Like, I mean, ideally what I'm saying there is I don't want to compete directly with Amazon merch products if I can avoid it when I sell on Amazon through seller central, but I'm also going to be listing products on Etsy. And there I want to, you know, post it on as many products as I think might sell. Now coming back to kind of the theme for the video, and by the way, you can just scroll and scroll and scroll, guys, and you can see even more products that were recently posted that have sold. But I wanted to make a point of showing you in this video, something we don't normally do, that we can go back from sorting to BSR, okay? Or you can just click bestsellers and that'll be the default view right here. A lot of these shirts that you see behind me, okay, we did not sort by newest, okay? So we're looking at the default view. It's looking at BSR lowest to highest, okay? And we can scroll and scroll and scroll and keep finding more shirts. What I wanted to show you, though, is many of these shirts, not all, right? This, this view right here behind me is not prioritizing anything to do with the date posted, okay? So when it comes to trends, it's not exactly assisting us in getting out ahead of a new trend, it's just showing us what is trending, but a lot of what is trending are shirts like this first one right here, okay? In the top left, it says in October, we wear pink. Got it, okay, we know why that's trending. We've talked about that was going to be a trend for a month now, but it was posted in 2021, you know, and it was posted three years ago. So is it that helpful? Not in terms of new trends and front running them. The shirt next to it also posted in 2021, the shirt next to that posted in 2019 shirt next to that posted in 2020, not exactly as helpful, but here's one. It says Harris walls, but it has a Y and a B inserted. All right, it was uploaded a month ago. It has a current BSR of 7,700. That is insanely low. If you have a BSR that is four digits, you are making some money, some serious money, all right. That is the number five best seller, you know, when we exclude the big brands. That's huge. All right, and I mean, the average BSR of the last 30 days, you can see merch dominator gives us to us right here. And by the way, you can click the little info icon and get a more detailed view that you see here behind me. Uh, but what you really are looking at is the date published September 7th, 2024. Okay. And the BSR currently, you also have this graph right here showing the BSR history, uh, that this is in demand. All right. The orange line also estimated sales kind of as an inverse function of BSR. But one thing this is helping me illustrate is that this shirt was posted a month ago. It was not a best seller when they first posted it. It wasn't even a best seller two weeks after they posted it, right? But here we are about four weeks after they posted it. And what do you know, it's in the number five spot. Like sometimes you got to give it times other times it can take off immediately. And those are the best times, but I mean, remember, every upload starts with zero sales and it's a complete unknown whether or not it's going to be successful. Uh, the political niche though, especially I like because not because I like politics, but because you can't advertise political niches. I mean, you can sometimes slip through the cracks, but like Amazon doesn't want to allow us a sellers to run ads on politically charged products. And I get why, you know what I mean? Uh, even though, you know, that means less money for Amazon and they are greedy. But when you, so when you see a potentially emerging political trend, you want to jump on it. It's in your best interest. You've heard me talking about this and you've seen my sales this year. I'm absolutely crushing it. All right. And I'm busy. I mean, I'm a busy guy normally, but we're also like moving into a new home. It's crazy these days, but I'm still prioritizing getting out ahead of these politically charged niches. And this could be one it wasn't necessarily planned. Um, the best place to find them, of course, is to change the drop down to newest. But I want to just kind of show you that when we actually look at some of these current best sellers, like I'm voting for the outlaw in the hillbilly, that niche. When that emerged, you better believe we found it under the newest feature first. And then anybody that acted on it is now hopefully making regular sales. And you can see this is a top 10 best seller. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. All right. I lied, I lied. Not a top 10. It is a top 11 best seller in the 11th spot. All right. Either way, though, BSR just under 10,000. They are doing so well with that design. And they posted it what two weeks ago or so, a little bit over two weeks ago. So guys, that's really what I wanted to illustrate in this video. It's just a little bit of another perspective. Oh yeah. I said I wanted to touch on the fact that like it's important to get out early because the earliest products that are uploaded tend to soak up those initial sales in my experience as a seller across any niche. I think most sales come like a day later or even two days later, like the masses tend to be a little bit slow in my experience. I've caught quite a few trends. Like I've published income reports for my first five years selling print on demand. They're on my website, RyanHook.com/incomereports. Like if you look at those, like I've, I've definitely caught some trends, but I didn't know initially that I caught them. It usually took a day or two days, right? Sometimes the new cycle slower, I don't know, but just don't give up hope. You want to be early either way. You want to soak up those early sales because when it actually takes off as a trend and all the other POD sellers jump on it, you've already made a bunch of sales, you've trained the Amazon algorithm that, Hey, when they type this into the search bar, show this product because people are clicking it and buying it. And the competition only makes that harder on you. You know what I mean? Especially if like it's a design where all things are kind of created equal, like some designs don't leave a lot of room for originality. So anyways, that's what I wanted to share guys.
