Recruiting Latest: Major Texas Targets Show Out at Under Armour Next Camp
Welcome to the Inside Texas football YouTube channel powered by inside Texas.com. I'm Joe Cook joined by Justin Wells and Charlie Williams. Make sure you like the video. Subscribe to the channel so we can bring you a bunch of great updates on Texas Longhorns football and even some other sports as we get going through the long off season. Today, we are going to talk about some of the news notes and pieces of information that we received at Sunday's Under Armour Camp in DFW, a number of top Texas targets were there, some scheduled visits, some talked about their relationship. With the Longhorns and some just had a good day playing ball. So Justin, we saw a few different guys, not as loaded of a camp as we typically see for the Dallas region, but still some guys Texas has extreme interest in. What were some of your big takeaways from not just seeing guys play, but also talking to a few of them. Yeah, my first impression was the offensive line in DFW is strong. There's some really good 2025 and 2026 offensive lineman. Obviously, Michael for Susie, Ty Haywood, Connor Cardi, you know, those guys get the praise. Most of the time, Lamont Rogers, man, they're good. I actually talked to Rogers about playing goalie and in playing soccer. And he said, man, he didn't realize how much fun he was going to have playing goalie. I thought that was impressive for a ginormous guy, but it feels like the offensive line, recruiting in DFW is just huge. There's just so many guys to choose from. And then, of course, I thought the wide receiver group was decent. I thought it was Decorian Moore, you know, he wasn't even going to work out guys. He was just going to show up and get his, get his future 50 invite. And take some pictures, but then he got competitive and then guys started talking to him. So he had to go out there and put in some work. I love that about a guy, especially the number one receiver in the country. And so top to bottom, I just, I'm with you. It's not as stocked as it used to be. I think Houston next week is going to be really good, especially on the DB side. But what it shows you is that DFW is loaded with offensive lineman for the next few classes with sprinkled in with a handful of talented guys. Charlie, who do you see? I know you talked to some of the stars from North Crowley and they made some good impressions on the field on Sunday. Yeah, yeah. So I got to talk to Harry Finnequot, John Tonton, and Jonathan Cunningham, right? They had a few more guys. They're supposed to show up, but those guys are out there trying to compete and show that North Crowley has a lot of talent. The players who can compete with anybody in the DFW area, they were really trying to put a stamp on yesterday's camp. So we'll go through some of the big guys who Texas fans definitely need to know about. And of course, we got to start with Decorian Moore, top five player, number one player in Texas. And Justin though he's committed to LSU, Texas is one of a few schools that continues to swing and continues to make progress in trying to flip the LSU commit. Yeah, everybody wants to know, what's Decorian Moore going to do? You know, what's going to happen there? And we're not going to really know that answer for another eight or nine months. You know, I got to catch up with Decorian and his mother, who was Marjan Moore, who was absolutely fantastic. Wonderful family. Decorian, you know, he's basically told every school that's offered him, I'm down to four schools. I'm going to take four official visits, LSU, obviously, they're solid. He's going to, he'll be down there for the spring game. Oregon, he's going to try to make it up there for an official visit in June. Ohio State is also going to get an official visit in June. And then Texas, he's going to see Texas twice in the next three to four months. He'll be at Texas for the spring game on April 20th. And he'll also be in Texas on an official visit in June. He said probably the last weekend of June. The big thing here is guys fans, this recruitment's not really going to really take off till probably November. Right now, everyone else is just treading water. You're trying to stay above the float right now. And so with Decorian, he's having fun. I think he's at a point where it's starting to get a little overwhelming, maybe a little stressful. That's why his mom is helping him out a lot. She takes a lot of pressure off of him. You know, when coaches and people call all the time, she takes that call a lot. She's very helpful in that regard. And she stays in touch with a lot of recruits, moms, a lot of other ones like Colin Simmons, Monica McCarley, they talk on a regular basis. And that's one guy that's recruiting Decorian. He told me as hard as any coach in the nation is Texas Edge Colin Simmons. And so for Decorian, he looked good in limited action, but he wasn't even supposed to work out. He wound up working out. He wound up looking great. He won the MVP of the award. There's a reason he's the nation's number one receiver. He's down to four schools, LSU's looking solid. But look, Texas is going to get him on campus twice in the next few months. And again, this recruitment probably doesn't really start till November, December, Charlie, you have some experience, obviously working in a personnel department at the college level. Maybe not with with five star receivers, but still a lot of what you did at that at UNLV applies. So when you're working on a flip, what are some things that you try to emphasize when you might bring in a prospect to is already committed to a different school? Yeah, like, kind of like Justin said, you want to stay afloat, right? You're just trying to stay in constant communication with that kid, right? It can be about anything. Don't make it all for far related, right? Find out his favorite things, right? If he's a gamer, find a way to get on the game with him. We can be talking about current movies, just trying to make sure you got constant communication, but make sure everybody in the building touches that kid and talks to that kid, right? Having the right engagements with that kid and just talking to, like I said, find out when grandma's birthday is, find out when the up birthday is and say, hey, tell you how happy birthday, whatever it may be. Anything you can do that's, you know, in the realm of being legal, do it, right? And just try to make sure that you can have, make sure that kid is, I mean, he's really thinking about me. This school is thinking about me. This coach is thinking about me, you know, I think it really, really goes a long way. And if you know, mom's no best. And like I said, he got to talk to the core of his mom. I got to talk to Raleigh, Pettigee's mom. And it goes a long way when coaches make an impact and meet and talk to moms. So speaking up, Pettigee, I think that's a good place to go next. One of the top linebackers in the country from McKinney High School. You kind of revealed some information. I'm not sure was out about where some of his family is from, but you also got to talk to, I talked to Riley. You talked to his mother. You got to hear some of the perspective on what's going to be important in this recruitment and some of the schools contending for his services. Yeah, yeah. Well, speaking to his mom, she's from the state of Ohio. Just know that doesn't have any bearing on him, going to Ohio state whatsoever. But she's really sitting back and letting him make the decision. But they're really paying attention to what these coaches say and do, right? Are they walking and walking and talking to talk? But when he goes to visit these schools, he wants to sit in the room. He wants to see what it looks like, how they're being coached, how they're being developed, right? Send him live in practice. He had the guys are competing and just looking at the team and the totality as the vibe in the culture. And I think one thing that stood out to me was her talking about Coach D Sarcagion is just he's really dialed in in the recruiting. Most time position coaches in the recruiting staff do the recruiting, but he's out doing the coaches, right? He's really involved. And she loves that because he's in doubt, he's in tune with this program and everything that's going on with it. And that speaks volumes to her as a mother when she, hey, you have my kid now for the next four or five years. Here you go. It's somebody she trusts. And that's very, very important. Justin, when looking at Petty John, obviously, he's got some influence at Texas from Xavier Filsome. There's also some need at linebacker after Texas just took one in the 2024 cycle and then, of course, have one in Kendrick Blackshire should be there for a year. So where do you see Texas standing with Petty John right now as he's starting to really take some visits? Yeah, I think Texas, it's Texas versus the field at this stage. Now, Riley may not tell you that. But I think under the surface, that's what we're looking at. I think Texas is like, like Coach Williams said, Texas has done a great job there. I think they would love the idea of proximity of him staying closer to home where they can see, you know, most of his games. They still want to go through the visit process to make sure. I think that's kind of where they're at right now. You know, go see all of them in that final turn to make sure you know where you want to go. And I think Riley's going to have a decision in July or August. Like, I don't think he goes into his senior season uncommitted. And Texas is, they've just, they've been really, they've done really well on that recruitment. They have two priority linebackers in the DFW area in Petty John and Elijah Barnes. And I think they have set the, the right now, they're the, they're the pace car on both of those recruitment. They're both those guys like each other. They like the idea of potentially playing together. Petty John is one that he's just, he's got some of that tie Anthony Smith in him. He's six three. He's ranging. He runs on the four by one relay. There's so much to like about this guy. And Nansen and Sark and PK understand you might be the best linebacker on our board. We have to make you the priority. Right. So we'll go from some skill players, I guess, to some of the big uglies, the offensive linemen. We got to start with Michael Fesussi from Lewisville. We, I was able to speak to him before he got going in the camp. Obviously someone who looks like a five star offensive lineman. And he said that Kyle Flood was on the phone with him on Saturday talking with him. And that was something that a lot of different recruits had mentioned that either Flood or Nansen or even Sark had been in contact on Saturday before that camp got going. Justin with Fesussi, obviously Texas is in on this one, Texas A&M, Oklahoma. They are involved as well. Missouri is making a big push, but Fesussi is going to have two opportunities to see Texas in the coming weeks and months. And he's looking forward to what he, the opportunity on the 40 acres in, I think, about a month. So like Dickorian Moore, Fesussi is the top priority on that offensive line playing offensive tackle. And he's going to be in Austin twice over the next few months. Like you said, he'll be there in April for a practice. He'll be there in June 21st of the 23rd for the official visit. My stance hasn't changed with Fesussi. I think this is a Texas OU Red River shootout. I think it's going to come down to either one of those schools. When, when you talk to Michael, he, his, he's just different when he's talking about Kyle Flood and Bill Beatenball. He just looks at, he just talks about those guys in a different light. He really, really has found a connection with those two guys. Now, the thing to understand with Fesussi, he really enjoys the recruiting process. And that's not a negative. Some kids, he gets to their head. They become little stinkers. It's not always cool. Fesussi hasn't. He just enjoys the attention. He enjoys the opportunity to go see these places and to meet these people. He's such a good, well-rounded kid to begin with. His family's done a tremendous job. Missouri, Texas A&M has some, some, some ties and connections that I think they're going to be relevant down the stretch. Missouri made an impression on him. LSU keeps pushing. But at the end of the day, this is going to come down to Texas and Oklahoma. I would be shocked if he's not in the, in the stadium for Texas, so you again, in October, um, I, I, you know, I like Texas by an edge over Oklahoma right now. I think Oklahoma's doing a lot better in one of these next guys that we talk about, maybe even two of the next guys we talk about. But I think tech, I think Fesussi, I think Texas has got a little bit of an edge over the rest of the teams when it comes to Michael. Oh, you is the main competition though. Before we keep on going, got to get a quick word in for our friend, Andre the lawyer. Andre the lawyer is a long time inside Texas user, never takes more than their clients. No win, no pay, no upfront costs. Principal offices in Dallas, Texas, and he's been representing injured Longhorns throughout Texas. Every client gets a personalized text message number so they can contact the team and get direct access through the lawyer all day and all night. Call Andre the lawyer at 214-444-8808, whether you're in a car wreck, an 18-wheeler accident, slip and fall and on the job injury or anything else, 214-444-8808. Got two more guys to talk about. They both happen to be offensive linemen. One is Ty Haywood. We were able to break over on inside Texas that the Longhorns are going to host the on three industry ranking five star again this upcoming spring. He plans to be at the spring game, which is a new development. Charlie, when looking at the Denton Ryan five star and looking at the board, how do you compare Haywood? I think you were able to look at his film a couple weeks ago. What are your impressions of Haywood and what is it like when you're an assistant coach and recruiting three high profile guys at one in the same position? Yeah, so it's kind of hard to separate. You can kind of look for who can really separate themselves and find the small details, right? They're all tall. They're all big. They're all physical. They like to get out there and opponent, right? So I think you really go to see who has more of a mental makeup to be the offense line. Who can grasp things quicker? Maybe that separates the kid. And so looking at Ty, I mean, Ty is another big human like a cowflip loves and he can look at his frame. He can ask so much weight to him. He has a big lower body, strong lower body. So, you know, he can hold weight 315 plus easy and still be able to move like he does. So, looking at Ty, he's a big aggressive kid. Somebody like fits in the boat in the boat. Maybe kelvin banks, not saying he's kelvin banks and just saying he has that same low. You put weight on him. He's going to get bigger and stronger. Probably not have much body fat and be able to do all the things you want him to do. Pull. He put him in a left tackle. He put him in a right tackle. It wouldn't matter. So, I think that's what I see when I look at Ty. Justin, Texas obviously has some ties to Denton Ryan between Jitavian Sanders, Anthony Hill, Austin Jordan. But this one may be kind of difficult for the Longhorns to maneuver, especially when you have these three competing entities pulling for three offensive tackles. There's three main ones in Dallas right now with Fessusi with Haywood and with Le Mans Rogers. And I feel like it's going to be a split all the way through all three of them. You know, Texas loves Haywood and for good reason. He's one of the best in the country. I just think he connects with Oklahoma a little bit better. I think Texas A&M is also going to be in the mix. I wouldn't be surprised if LSU gets a visit. But right now, even Alabama, but right now, you know, Oklahoma to me has a mile long lead. Like, they have, they've really connected with him and his family. He's been up there multiple times. When I got to see him at a track meet a couple weeks ago, all he talked about was Oklahoma. I think Ty would tell you off the record that there is leader. I don't think he would say it on the record. But I also feel like they're the lead team in this regard. I think it's Oklahoma by a mile right now. Not to say some other schools can't jump in the mix. We thought, you know, a year before Neto Romeo Zulu signed with Texas, we thought there was no way he was going to Texas. So you don't always know and you do have to recruit through the whistle. And when you walk through the doors of the football facility at Billy Ryan High School, you got a giant picture of Anthony Hill. You see that every day. So I'm not going to close the book there. But Texas has a mountain to climb to jump back into this recruitment. And I think Oklahoma's got the lead right now. We got one more to talk about. That is Lamont Rogers kind of a recruitment. We've been, I don't want to say in the dark on, but not a lot of information has come out. I got the chance to catch up to Lamont Rogers who I remember seeing a spring practice. I think this time last year, maybe even before that just kind of thinking, Oh, what's a 2025 guy doing here. But from a skeet horn. He was on hand at Texas at the junior day. He plans to be at Texas on March 29 something we broke or an inside Texas and Justin I know I keep bringing this topic up but this is, hey, another school, another offensive tackle. And just the three way dance continues for all these DFW guys. Yeah, and Lamont's the one that plays soccer. So he's the one I like, I know for real, I like all of them. But no, Lamont, he just, man, they're just so Charlie said, they're just so big. It's like to just duplicates and triple kit of just ginormous kids. I think the area is loaded. Lamont Rogers is another one that's going to be, it's going to come down to three schools Texas A&M Oklahoma and Texas and I think in that order. I think this is one of the ones the Aggies are in a really good position for right now. They've done a great job building the relationship elko has done a good job getting in, getting in and building, you know, getting in early and really solidifying their stance with him. I believe he's already been there once or twice this year and he'll return another couple times. Texas is going to have to catch up a little bit. I think Texas has a better shot at Rogers than they do. Hey, would, but that's not saying much. This is another one that, you know, he's been on campus actually in Austin a handful of times. I think he attended a game last year too. He's got a great, great program. They've got some 2025 and 2026 that are really talented. Safety Mark L Ford is another one that Texas is on. But for Rogers, I like A&M right now. I'm telling you, I think all three of these guys are going to go in three different directions. I think they all know it right now. I love that, you know, Texas and Oklahoma are still going to be battling out. I know the Sooners are trying to score and with Beatenball, they're doing a good job there as well. After talking to him yesterday for a little bit, I get the vibe that A&M is the leader and so we'll see how that thing plays out during the summer. Charlie, I'll give you the final word. If you had to have your pick from those three for guys playing tackle, if you could ignore kind of circumstances recruitment, who leads, who doesn't, who would you pick? I'm a big one, my Rogers fan, man, watching this film, right? You can see him move, but then he's playing goalie, right? I mean, look, having former kid who played goalie in hockey, you know, he, he moves. You got to be athletic and move, man. I'm sorry, right? You got to be able to move to play goalie. And then you sit on a basketball court. I know Justin loves that. He can move on the court. So, he's a total project and just think about what you can do, having that guy at a left tackle, man. I think you just missed a moment with the Ben Texas has been recruiting and has on the team now. Good call. Love it. Thank you for watching this video. Make sure you like it.
