Tom Brady is like his $100,000 hurricane relief efforts. The man is making, well, like $35 million a year. Hickey, why didn't he just donate his whole salary? He needs it to buy the Raiders or something. Well, I guess he's got to save up, right? That's why he's working in the first place. All right. Well, he did get divorced. Well, his wife has more money than him probably, right? She does. So, I mean, unless they signed some paperwork, he may have won out on that one. Ironically enough? I didn't know you can make that much money being pretty. Right? A lot of money being pretty. A lot of money. I got to be careful with my words here. You ready for this? I'm going to say this. I hope so. Oh, for the last words we hear. No, this won't be the last. I'm going to say this in a very diplomatic way. Don't worry, guys. I'm not going to say anything bad. Hickey, they're a lot of pretty people on Earth. They're pretty people everywhere. There are? All over the place. So, what did she do? Just hit the jackpot to be a half a billionaire for being pretty? Like, what? Come on. I could find somebody pretty downstairs right now. You definitely could. I would agree with that. I mean, maybe it's just the height, maybe it's just who you know. It's a lot of tall, pretty people walking. But how did she get half a billion dollars? I will try an answer for you. I have no idea. Right? Right place, right time. That's it. I guess. You know the right people? You know, I don't have the physical capabilities to be Tom Brady. I don't. Never. It was never going to happen for me. But pretty people, they are all over the place. Tall, pretty people, short, pretty people. Just all types of pretty people everywhere. This lady is pretty, makes more money than Tom Brady. What a world. What a world. Hickey, I'm just trying to understand, but just say whatever. Imagine being a sucker and putting your body on the line every week to make a few million dollars. When you can just wake up, look pretty and get paid like triple that? Maybe that's why the relationship didn't work. It's like, lady, did you see my Achilles? They need to cut it open tomorrow. He slept in a weighted pajamas and didn't eat tomatoes. So he could play till 45 and just woke up in the morning. Had a smoothie and said, all right, let's do this. It took pictures. Yeah. It's 25. Yeah. It's 25 mil. This guy's getting sat on by guys who ate 300 pounds. My God. I didn't know Tom Brady wore weighted pajamas. Oh, yeah. That's part of the TB-12 method. Weighted pajamas. Avocado ice cream. Oh my God. The no tomatoes. I've heard of heated, not heated. I've heard of weighted blankets. I don't weighted blanket. Grew up. You live in a northeast. You live somewhere where it's cold. Weighted blanket will do the trick when it's freezing outside. Okay. Weighted pajamas. Weighted pajamas. So you work out when you sleep? Maybe that's a hack? Well, when you roll over your arm, your arm is doing more. Oh my God. Doing a bicep curl. Is this part of the TB-12 type of hustle-ass mess? Is he still selling that TB-12 garbage? It's fun. I was talking to my friend yesterday about it. We were having the same conversation. We had the other day. I don't get it. I mean, I guess something's working, but they're not doing it if it wouldn't work. But Strauss, I mean, hey, look, when the check clear is what are you going to say? Major League Baseball screwed us? No, you're right about that. Anyway. Hey, good for them. And speaking of Tom Brady. This man is making $35 million to call football games and nobody cares. Nobody cares to listen to him. Nobody's tuning in. So I need to listen to Tom Brady and he gave $100,000 to hurricane relief efforts. Thank you so much. Tom Brady. But we also got news as the NFL is in London again, the Jacksonville Jaguars are in their second home. They're getting ready to take on the Chicago Bears. And so the Bears, their owner spoke George McCasky spoke to the media in London. And there was a rumor, not even a rumor. Tom Brady said it a couple of weeks ago, he's like, hey, listen, by the way, when I was a free agent and I was leaving, Bill Belichick in the past because they suck or I hated him before I went to Tampa. He said the Bears were trying to bring him on. He said they did it in a very stealth way. What that means, I don't know, they sent a pigeon with a note. I have no idea. But it was confirmed via George McCasky. Come to the Bears owner, listen. George Tom Brady mentioned on the broadcast, I guess it was the bucks game that he was doing a couple of weeks ago, the Bears were quietly one of the more aggressive teams in pursuing him during his free agency in 2020. That's the first time we had ever heard of that. Can you take us through kind of what those conversations were like and trying to get Tom Brady to come to Chicago before he ultimately went to Tampa? That seems like ancient history at this point. But I do remember we were interested in pursuing him and didn't work out for us, worked out there for him. Oh, he's correct. It did not work out for the Chicago Bears. If you remember, things worked out very well for Tom Brady. The man won a Super Bowl in his very first year with the bucks. People was saying that Tom Brady was washed up. People said that he was done, that he was out there throwing ducks that he didn't have any more. But when they went to World Series, excuse me, it's too much baseball on. They went to the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl World Series Championship, Larry O'Brien. You know what the hell I mean. And so the Buccaneers won the championship. And what the hell did the Chicago Bears get as a consolation? Not Tom Brady, but a guy who beat him. They got Nick Foles. They got Nick Foles from the Jaguars. And no, if you don't remember, if you want some continuity yesterday during our top six list, we took a look at some of the worst contracts ever handed out in NFL history. You might remember Nick Foles contract was on that list. And what a shock, what a surprise. The Jacksonville Jaguars are the team that gave Nick Foles that contract for years, 88 million dollars and the Chicago Bears with Mitch Trabisky, that's who they had. They bring on Nick Foles. Nick Foles couldn't even take the job for Mitch Trabisky, basically hurt and busted up. Hickey, you know about Nick Foles. He was a young guy. My guy. Yeah. You didn't miss him with the Colts? No, I did not. That was a low point in the franchise. So when he played for like those few games, it was one of those where I tried to black out of my memory. Ouch. That stinks. Let me ask you. I've never asked you this. When Andrew Lux said, I'm tired of peeing blood. I'm leaving. How did you feel? Shocked. I, it took me a truly a long time to process it and actually like understand it was really happening. I was in the state of shock for hours, but I didn't blame him. Colts. Nothing to protect him. He was getting knocked around like a pinata. And what is he doing? He's teaching school and coaching middle school kids or something. Now, right? Living a good life. He's living a good life and got himself a degrees teaching kids. He's, he's helping out the future and he's not getting beat around yet. If they actually protected him, there's no reason why the Indianapolis Colts wouldn't be in the same position as let's say the Green Bay Packers and the Green Bay Packers have just hit the jackpot going from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers, at least on a football field and then moving on to Jordan Love. It seemed that even though there was a gap to think that you can go from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck for the guy for the next, I don't know, 10, 15 years. It stinks. And now you got Anthony Richardson. Can he even play? Have you, you still believe in that guy? I do. I do. I think he can play. Why? Because he's barely played. So how can I judge him off of like five starts? That's the point. He'll never play. He's never going to stay healthy and when he plays, he gives the ball over. I am holding out hope. Now it's maybe Fool's gold, but hopefully he plays this week. He can learn how to, I mean, this is a broken record, learn how to slide. Maybe it'll never work, but I am an optimist by nature, usually dry. That leads to a lot of disappointment. I will stick down that road for now and still believe at this moment, he'll stay healthy going forward and play well. I was going to say, I was trying to think of who's an Indianapolis that could teach him to slide. And then I remembered, there ain't no baseball team out there, there's nobody. If they had a baseball team, maybe you can learn how to slide. He's doomed and good luck to the Colts though. They got the Tennessee Titans. Can it be any worse than that? But at least not well, for them, it's good. For you, it's good. We don't know the status of Mr. Mayonnaise. So I know he got that sprained shoulder. If Mason Rudolph is going to be out there starting, I think the Colts forget having a chance. Let's also be honest, would you rather see Flocko out there or Richardson? Richardson for sure. Oh, no. Joe brings nothing. And not saying he's yards. A lot of yards. But like nothing in the sense of like, where's he going to, he's 40 years old. Right. What are the Colts going to do for the future here? Okay. I would at least like if they are going to just be an average team or go nowhere this year. I'd at least rather have Richardson play. And if he sucks, you know what, at least I can get an answer. Maybe you're right. But at least I'd rather know at the end of the year, Richardson can play or he can instead of, well, I don't know because Joe Flocko started 12 times this year. That's a disaster. Joe Flocko is only 39 years old. My apologies to Joe. He's only 30. Do not mean it. Is he turning 40 this year? Do you know? January. Oh, oh. So maybe if the Colts are in the AFC title game, maybe he'll turn 40 in the season, but Wow. Wow. That's what that for. I'll tell you this much. I don't think I'm going out on the limb. There's a good possibility and maybe not because Joe Flocko is one step away from being back on his couch. That's the reality. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a starter next year. He could play. I mean, yeah, yeah, I bet you the Browns would rather have him right now over to Sean Watson. That's for sure. Oh, man. Yeah. You write about that. You're right about that. And stupid Browns are stuck with that guy. Hey, good. Good on Joe Flocko. This man is 39 years old about to be 40. Help the Browns go to the postseason last year. Now they stuck with that Deshawn Watson guy or what a shame, Cleveland Browns always doing something stupid. It means just World Series. Forget the baseball. Go right to the World Series. As a team in New York who's already taken a step to get there, New York Mets advanced last night to the nationally championship series by getting rid of the Phillies. People are loving Lindor Mendoza. Nobody complains about the manager. Nobody is mentioning Stevie Cohen's name. The New York Mets are in a surprising spot to talk about the run that they've been on, where they can go. And the fans sentiment now surrounding the team joining us is the Mets beat writer for News Day, it's Tim Healy, Tim, thank you for joining us. Thank you very much for having me. Absolutely. You know, I looked at the New York Mets all throughout the course of the season before the season and I figured that at best they would fall right at or around 500, where they have gone, I think, has really exceeded expectations. What are your thoughts on what they've been able to do coming back from a 10 below? And what do you think about this Mets season so far? It's been pretty unbelievable. I was thinking a long similar line to you. I thought the Mets maybe were a team that would finish a couple of games over 500, maybe had a shot at winning a wild card spot. I absolutely did not expect them to do this, which was sneaking to the playoffs and then basically rampaged through the first couple of rounds and now end up in the NLCS, baseball's final four. So it's been really a ridiculous couple of weeks for the Mets and they've earned it. Well they've certainly been one of the hotter teams in baseball as the summer ran into July into August into September. Is it just the pitching that's been the turnaround? How did they get to this point? Really it's been a little bit of everything. The pitching, the starting pitching in particular, has been bizarrely good. They have a bunch of guys who are not sexy, brand names starting pitchers, but have been one of the best rotations in baseball over the course of the second half and now into the playoffs. They've really held up in a way that I don't think even the Mets expected. But then the offense does it too. They have Francisco and Doris, top of the lineup. Peter Longzo, one of the best sluggers in baseball, Brendan Nimmo, a very good player. JD Martinez has had moments, Mark Vientos, their third baseman, who started the season in the minor. He lost his job on the Major League roster at the very end of spring training because the Mets signed JD Martinez. Quarter of the way through the year, Vientos comes up, grabs that third base job and emerged as without exaggeration, perhaps their best hitter in the lineup. So it's of all of the many, many things that have gone right for the Mets over the last few months. Mark Vientos is right near the top of that list. Tim Healy is joining us from Newsday. I like how you say it's a mix and it certainly has been. It's mind-boggling. The New York Mets have been able to do this without someone who is supposed to be their number one. And Kodai Senga, I was a little shocked that he went out as an opener last week as well. How much more can we expect from him as this postseason rolls on? Well, he pitched two innings last time, so that means he's probably good for approximately three innings next time, which would be probably game one of the NLCS on Sunday. The Mets have not locked that in, but Kodai Senga was scheduled to pitch the last game of the Division Series if the Mets needed it. It turns out they didn't need it. They took care of the Phillies in four. So until the Mets say otherwise, I do have Senga penciled in for game one. So three innings next time, four innings later in the NLCS, maybe five innings in the World Series if they get there. They're building him up as they go as if it's his own spring training. So it's another very weird thing for the Mets. You almost never see a starting pitcher do that in October. Never. Got pitched five innings in the regular season, boom, helping out here in the postseason. It's a wild stuff for the New York Mets. Tim Healy joining us covers the New York Mets on the beat for a news day. You mentioned Francisco Lindor. I remember the years and Saturdays on WFAN telling Mets fans to just chill out, relax. Why are you beating down on this guy? And New York Mets fans are like, Hey, we're going to suffer for 10 years with this man. Has he gotten past a grace period? Is he now going to be beloved? They're leaving him alone now, right? They have to leave him alone for now. Yeah, he is probably going to finish second in MVP voting. So when you have that kind of season and sort of embrace that leader role the way he has this year is become a, if not a, or at least a face, perhaps the face of the team, certainly the tone setter and heart and soul of the team. Yeah, a lot of fans really like Francisco Lindor now, it's kind of funny how it works. When he was new to New York and really wasn't playing very well, to be honest, people ragged on him and they pointed to the contract, $341 million and thought, What is going on with this guy? And I was playing great. So people love him. So it's a lot of times in New York, especially it tends to be a pretty simple equation. But these days, Francisco Lindor is very much on the right side of that line. Well, somebody else, the New York Mets fans, they loved, I think, and they didn't like his production, I think, and then I know with some home runs it changed. Peter Lonzo, this man stayed the entire year as a Met was not traded, is looking for a big deal, is playing first base. We know he's good for 30 home runs and 100 RBIs, whatever he's at. What are your thoughts on maybe the contract he has played himself into? Will the Mets stick with him? Will he go elsewhere? Does it depend on World Series? What do you think about his current situation? Well, his current situation is fascinating because he did have an underwhelming contract year in the regular season. It was 34 home runs, almost 90 RBIs, I believe. And those are, that's a solid year, but it's not Peter Lonzo's typical year. He would not admit it publicly, but I do think the pressure of playing his last month going into free agency, weighed on him. In the postseason though, he's been great, he saved their season with a series winning home run in Milwaukee last week, he had a couple home runs against the Phillies in the division series. So, as far as what sort of contract he's looking at, I don't really know, it's kind of hard to predict these things. But if he keeps playing well this month, he's going to keep making more money. Well, Tim, what are your thoughts, is the New York Mets await the winner between the Dodgers and the Padres, who are they best equipped to go up against and have success? They're best equipped to go up against the pod, excuse me, the Dodgers because the Dodgers are the worst team right now. They are, they don't really have any starting pitching besides Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who did not pitch very well in the division series against the Padres. They have Shohei Otani, who's the best baseball player in the universe and Gookie Betts and an injured Freddy Freeman. So, they can score some runs to Dodgers, but honestly, if I'm the Mets, the Dodgers don't really scare me. If I'm the Mets, the Padres do scare me because they have better starting pitching, they have a very deep lineup, they have Fernando Tatias Jr., who was injured when the teams matched up in August. They were very even that weekend in San Diego, but now Tatias is back, he's very good, and their bullpen is completely nasty. So, the Mets, if they had their drawers, I think they'd rather play the Dodgers. Tim Healy joining us from Newsday, you know, one thing that you haven't heard a lot about a one person is the manager of the New York Mets. Typically, the manager is the first person that the fans want to go after. I feel like Carlos Mendoza's kind of just been under the radar in comparison to its former managers in New York with the Mets and/or the Yankees. What makes Carlos Mendoza different where he's kind of been spared a little? I don't think he's been under the radar at all. I think he's been very highly regarded, really from the moment he was hired by the Mets and all the way through his rookie season as Mets manager. So, he's had a great year, he seems to, you know, when he got hired, what a lot of people said about him was Mendoza knows the numbers, he knows the analytics, but he is not beholden to them. He is able to read the situation, trust his gut, and we've seen that a lot this year, particularly with his decisions with pitchers, especially in the rotation, when to leave a guy in, when to leave a guy out. More times than not, those decisions have worked out for the Mets, it's a big reason why they are where they are. Just the other day, he left in Sean Minaya to face Bryce Harper in a spot where maybe Sean Minaya should not have been facing Bryce Harper and then it worked out for the Mets because right now everything worked out for the Mets, apparently. So, Carlos Mendoza has been great. I think he, right from the very beginning of spring training, helped that a better, more productive tone in the clubhouse and with the players, players seem to have responded to that. And, you know, it's been a great first year for not only Carlos Mendoza, but David Stern as well in his first year. His first year, we know who hired him. We know the Mr. Uncle Stevie, Mr. Uncle Stevie, Uncle Stevie are bringing him in. He has been criticized pretty much from day one. People were worried about trading for Lindor, but then not giving him the extension. People were concerned about the contracts, giving out to Scherzer in Verlander and then having to trade them off and pay for it. There are a lot of fans who said that Steve Cohen wasn't, was lying to the fans that he wasn't being honest about what he was doing. Did he kind of back into this result with the New York Mets now? What's the deal? I don't, listen, nobody expected the message this year that includes Steve Cohen, that includes David Stern, so did they back into it? Did they luck out a little bit? Yeah, probably. But as far as Steve Cohen, several years of ownership, you know, it's been fine, really. They acquired Lindor, they gave him the contract, okay, fine, maybe he overpaid. The Scherzer contract was a great deal, Verlander left so, a couple, if a year's, what changed, what most changed things for the Steve Cohen Mets was when he was able to hire the guy he wanted to hire from the beginning, which was David Stern's. When Cohen first bought the Mets four years ago this month, he tried to hire Stern's. The brewer said, "Nope, can't talk to him." A year after that, he went back to the brewers, they said, "Nope, can't talk to him." So in the interim, Steve Cohen had a couple of other GMs who, for various reasons, did not work out. Oh, boy. Okay. Yeah. Don't send photos, people, don't send photos from your phone, don't do it. And then he finally got his guy, David Stern became a free agent, Steve Cohen paid him a boatload of money the way he does, and here they are, one year later in the NLCS. So if you believe, if you ask Steve Cohen, there will be more where this came from in the year at the time. A 10 final question for you. Do you feel the Mets can go all the way and win the first one since '86? You know, I did not expect them to get this far, so at this point I'm having trouble betting against them in a short series. They keep proving people wrong, they keep doing the unexpected, so why not? Sure. They can win it all. What series it is. Yeah. That'd be fun. Sign me up. Yeah, you wouldn't have to travel far. If they win this game, the Detroit Tigers advance to the American League Championship series. They will await the winner between the New York Yankees and the Royals and the Yankees. They have an opportunity to go ahead and get the Royals ahead of the hell up on out of here. So by the time we get to tonight, we very well might know who's going to play in the American League Championship Series. We also have some Thursday night football going on at the top of the hour. We're going to spend some time talking about the 49ers in the Seattle Seahawks. We got two teams here competing in the NFC West. One is expected to compete for a championship. Not happening right now for the 49ers, especially with no Christian McCaffrey. And the other team, I got to be honest, I feel like the Seahawks are just treading water. You know, we're going to, we're going to get into some action in the Pacific Northwest or at least the Seahawks are going to be in action in the 49ers. I do want to talk to you about this, this matchup this weekend. A lot of people are excited to see Texas and the Sooners, me, not so much. Don't care. Well, I do care, but not as much as I want to see this other game. I'm talking about this matchup that's going to take place between the Ducks and the Ohio State University. We got two teams who are 5 and 0. It's about time that they both face off against some real competition. We have the Ducks. This is their first go-around in the big 10 and they just been smacking teams around. They beat up on Idaho. They barely beat Ohio State or excuse me, Boise State. I'll give them credit for that, only got by with a field goal. They smashed Oregon State. They beat up on UCLA. They just beat Michigan State. Ohio State is going to be their biggest challenge. And so Ryan Day is coming back in an hilarious fashion. He's bringing the former coach, Chip Kelly, who used to coach these Ducks. And so I want to know who's going to end up on top. I'm sick of these powder puff games, two teams playing each other, doesn't amount to a damn thing. I'm going with the Ohio State University. Welcome to the big 10. Oregon. I'll tell you this much. You think about the participants that are involved, Dan Lanning, just from this week. He talked about his goals for his career. And I guess one of his goals now that he's in the big 10 is to win it big. Listen to what he told NBC, number one goal is help my people reach and dream, you know, reach their dreams and goals and aspirations. I feel like I'm living my dream every day. So the number one goal in there is, you know, that to help the other people in the organization, the players that come play for me get to live their dream because I'm living mine. Number two, when I win a national championship here at Oregon. Number three is Mike Pilates, the winningest coach in Oregon football history. He's won 116 games, right? I'm a long ways away. So I'm chasing that. Well, is Dylan Gabriel going to help you get there? He's going to have to go out there and light it up with Tesh Johnson. If they're going to beat Ohio State, Dylan Gabriel says, oh hell yeah, I'm ready to take on the Ohio State University. It's fun. You know, that's why you play the game. That's why we all, you know, want to be a part of teams that, you know, win and go do, you know, the, to the last game of the season, but you know, it's, it's taking it one step at a time. You know, if there's anything I've realized through, you know, my five now six year plan is like, you got to take it one week at a time, you know, and this is the next step. And of course, the, the atmosphere, the, you know, college football in general, this is what you, you dream of, but, you know, you got a job to do. You got to execute. You got to play hard and find a way to win. So of course, we live for it. And I think you just have to go back to, you know, the, the basis, basics of the process and preparing the right way. What the hell that God doesn't sound excited. Thank you. Who, somebody puts something in his coffee. He's measured. Right. Don't you want a guy that's not too high, not too low, just right in the middle for a game like this? No, I need my ducks quarterback to say we're going to beat the living hell out of Ohio State. That's what I need. We're going to beat the bucks off them. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What is a buck guy? It's a nut. Right. I've seen it. Right. It is a nut. Indeed. I think a poisonous one. I guess we can name it after like a edible nut, right? What do you mean? Like a, a cashew? Yeah. You can't be the Ohio State cashews, how I would say peanuts. You got to be a buck, a buck guy. Well, at least it's, I mean, there's some sort of teeth there with it being venomous or poisonous, I should say, not venomous. At least the mascot walks that, that band, oh, hickey, the band. I heard and saw the band practice before I did. Amazing. Banders. Excuse me. Yeah. They're fine. In comparison to what in general, there's plenty of good bands out there. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Ohio, the scriptl Ohio State does the, they got the best band in the country, they do the Michael Jackson, they do the lean in everything. Self proclaimed, but sure.
