[Music] Hello and welcome to the ice skies. This is the soul that takes you into the world of the national hockey league. Every game, every day, from a betting perspective. With pro sports handicappers, Ian Cameron, Alex B. Smith, and various guests from the world of hockey and sports heaven. And now, here's your host, Ian Cameron. [Music] Welcome to the ice skies. Friday, October 11th, Ian Cameron, Alex B. Smith with you, and joining us for the first of many times this year. It's going to be Calder Brooks with us. He's going to be on weekends moving forward, but had an extra day available through the week. So he's joining us today, and he'll be back with us tomorrow as well on the Saturday show. Saturday's is probably the most likely day he'll be joining us moving forward. But he's on with us for a bonus episode today. Calder, welcome in. Glad to have you officially a part of the ice guys family, just recently retired, of course, from playing hockey himself. Welcome to the show, man. How are you? Yeah, thanks for having me here, and it should be good to get things going here on more of a regular basis. And I'm excited it's going to be a good year of getting to watch a little bit more hockey and be more involved with that being back home here on Canadian soil. So things are looking good. Yeah, a little bit easier to watch NHL hockey in Saskatchewan compared to Denmark. Just a hunch that that's probably the case. And clearly you're right. Now that you're back home, you'll get the chance to watch a lot more hockey. And I've said it a million times. I'll say it one more time. I'll try not to say it too many more times. He's got one of the best names for someone involved with hockey. Calder doesn't get much better than that. There's no doubt about it. Great night last night again on the betting board as far as results go overall. How about another three and oh best bet sweep? Now, I know Matt Robinson couldn't be on the show today, but he did pass along the best bet for me, which did get posted on the Patreon page, patreon.com/iceguys. So again, make sure you're signed up there. We did get the Matt Robinson's best bet. He went Homer, but who cares if he goes Homer with his Dallas Stars? If it's a winner, it's a winner. That's all that matters. I couldn't give a shit that he picks his favorite team, the Dallas Stars team total over. If it wins, it's all I care about. And he got there easily with the Dallas Stars team total over. Alex, you had Boston Montreal over one and a half first period, a best bet winner on the show. And I had San Jose team total over two and a half as my best bet. So nice to have another three. That's two, three and oh best bet sweeps so far this week, Tuesday and Thursday. So hoping we continue this nice little run that we've had. As we always do, we'll recap last night a busy Thursday night in the NHL at nine games. Obviously, we saw the Boston Bruins bounce back and beat Montreal six to four. Hayden Primo, not quite up to the task like Samuel Montembeau was the other night when he shut out the Toronto Maple Leafs. But a nice win there for Boston bouncing back from just a terrible performance against the Florida Panthers. A lot of their best players showed up last night. The Buffalo Sabres can't get out of their own way. That's a crushing loss you guys because I thought they played a hell of a game. I thought they outplayed the LA Kings, but they couldn't finish. Darcy Kemper to his credit played excellent, you know, and that's a good sign for the LA Kings. You need Darcy Kemper of the Colorado year, not the Darcy Kemper of last year with Washington. And then they got into just ridiculous penalty trouble. Lack of discipline, lack of composure last night, especially from Samuelson at the end of that game. You just can't take that penalty and put your team down five on three. And sure enough, Copitar scores the game winner on that five on three. And the Kings end up, that was the two-one goal. They had an empty net. Natural Hadi, by the way, for Anjay Copitar in the third period. All three goals scored by him for that three-one Kings win. Great job by the Leafs. Tough loss, obviously against Montreal. But they bounced back. They held the beast. Dennis Hildeby with a win and his NHL debut. Leafs get a 4-2 win against the Devils last night as they beat Sheldon Keefe, their former head coach. And it was a great win for the Toronto Maple Leafs. And we saw a little Craig Barubay. And if the Leafs are going to do big things this year, they should be able to do what they did in the third period last night. Lock it down when you have a two-goal lead. You know, that is what Barubay is looking for. A nice clean, sweat-free, play strong defense. A play good in front of your net. Support your goalie. Close out games on the road when you have a lead. We know the Leafs have blown many a game the last several years in the third period, especially on the road. But to see them, hold on, play a good sound. Strong road third period to close that game out. It's a good side moving forward that they're heating the new system that Craig Barubay is looking for. How about those Senators? Amazing what a good goaltender can do for you. Linus Almark was excellent. First start with the Ottawa Senators. And they beat the defending Stanley Cup Champion. Florida Panthers 3-1. We also did lean to the under in that game. And you saw it. They're going to try to be a little bit better defensive team this year. It's what Travis Green has been harping on throughout training camp. And Almark was solid in that big injury concern for Florida. Alexander Barkov left that game, needed to be helped off the ice. We'll have to see what his status is moving forward. Almeries didn't offer any updates in the post game. But obviously that would be a huge massive loss to the Florida Panthers if Barkov has to miss significant time long term. So this is definitely something we're going to have to monitor moving forward. The Utah Hockey Club, what a job by them. A very entertaining back and forth game against the New York Islanders. Last night they pulled it out 5-4 in overtime. Through three nights of the season, the best player in the NHL has been Dylan Gunther. Honestly. He's been absolutely spectacular. And I hate to say I saw this coming and I told you so. But going back and watching him in junior, watching him in the World Junior Hockey Championship as well for Canada. You knew this guy was going to be maybe something special. But wow, it's beyond our wildest dreams what we're seeing from him right now. He's been absolutely spectacular. He's been all over the puck. The speed, the hands, the finishing ability, the shot, the release, the deception in his game. That's what makes him special, the deception. He's able to deceive the defenseman, deceive someone trying to back check him from a forward position. And just that extra little second of hesitation. He's just very, very gifted as a skilled talented player up front. And we're seeing it on full display. What has he got? Six goals already for the, or four goals already I should say in two games for the Utah Hockey Club. Just an incredible performance by him. And look, they were down a couple times in that game and they kept responding. So 2-0 start. We swept there with the first period over, the full game over. And we're back. The Tylinders draw season. You thought it went away, right? It was just a little flute that last year we cast all these draw bets. No. We're back for more draws this year. And we hit that one at plus 350, the draw in that Utah, New York Islanders game. The Islanders were the kings of the draw last year. And I think we fully expect them to be that way this year. Call it sounded like you wanted to jump in and say something to Jeff. What did you think? I was just going to comment on that. Yeah. The, I didn't even know that was a possibility to bet the, to bet the ties on, on a team and. There you go. I think you're going to learn quick here. If you are going to like, yeah, the Islanders, the way they play and they're kind of boring, defensive style, typical. Not as boring, but they still play close games these days. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean, that's, that's a great bet. I might have to start kind of looking into. Well, yeah. We will, we will quickly get you caught up with the ways of draw season. If you stick around. Oh, that's, that's one of our. Yeah. One of our special teams here. Yeah. Exactly. The prices too cold are with those bets. I mean, you're talking always from plus 340 plus 350 minimum with the majority of those bets. A lot of some games you're even able to get plus 400 or better, depending on the matchup. So they are good, but they can't bet them all. Obviously you got to pick your spots. But if you do wisely, you're certainly able to cash some tickets in that regard. Well, I, we got the over with Pittsburgh Detroit. We just didn't expect Pittsburgh to do most of the scoring, but credit to the Penguins. They get up off the mat after an embarrassing loss to the New York Rangers. They beat Detroit six to three. We had concerns about this Detroit defense and goaltending boy. Not a good grade in the first night of the season and Billy who so was excellent in the preseason. Not so much last night and that came against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now that the game's count and look at Billy who so stumbles. Alex Lyon and cam Talbot are your other options. So this is like Alex said it all off season. This goal tending is a concern here for Detroit. We know they can score goals, but and that blue line's not great after you get past your rot and most cider. You know, there's some holes there on that back end as well for the Detroit Red Wings. And we saw that last night, but credit to Pittsburgh. They responded six to three after the debacle against the New York Rangers. Game of the night or certainly one of them Dallas Nashville. It lived up to the hype. It was a great hockey game. Two contenders in the West Dallas with the 4-3 win. I thought Nashville played well enough to win, but Dallas got one more goal. One more save from Mottinger. Stamp Coast rings it off the iron. Smoke the pipe in the final what 20 seconds of that game when they were trying to tie it. But it was a great hockey game. Dallas hangs on for three. We cashed the over there. Columbus gave it a good go. I took a shot with them what plus 240 last night, but they fall short against the Minnesota Wild 3-2. In that one. And then St. Louis San Jose. Macklin Celebrini doesn't even wait 10 minutes into his career to score his first NHL goal. He had a two point first period. Beautiful assist on Tyler to Foley's goal in that first period as well. What a debut for Macklin Celebrini. The young kids showed up. Fabian Zetterlin got a goal as well. San Jose is going to be able to score goals. And of course, cashed my team total best bet over with San Jose last night. But their defense and their goal tending looked hideous last night. And you look at that blue line. And like I said, we said it yesterday, Alex. We like Jake Wallman. We like Cody CC. That's not a number one defensive pair though in the NHL. That's just not. That's not a number one pairing. Those are two guys that can play maybe second pair, third pair. They can't play first pair. You can't play them that many minutes. And every night against the best players on the other team. And we saw that. They're going to be able to score goals. That defense and that blue line is a major issue. And Blackwood, Blackwood actually in the early. He made some big saves too. But my issue and I thought he played good at times. But it's the tying goal that made it 4-4 from Falk. And the game winner from Shen where he's off the angle a little bit. And it's just a one-on-one with the shooter. And you and you don't make that stop. I wanted to save in both of those instances. They're not horrible goals. They were goals that are saves that I think are goaliest capable of having. And those were obviously the deciding goals. The game. The goal that tied it for St. Louis. And then the goal that won it in overtime. So even though Blackwood has moments of playing well at the end of the day. Those critical moments where you got to finish it off. You know, when you're up 4-3. Couldn't make that save at the end in the third. Couldn't make that save on Brad and Shen in overtime. You know, and that's why Mackenzie Blackwood is what he is. And Joe Cargoli is whole career for the most part. But San Jose's got issues defensively. They may not have issues offensively though. I was very impressed with them up front as far as ability to score goals. They could be in some track meets this season if last night is any indication. Alex, your thoughts on the Thursday slate? Yeah, we start right at that game. Like I said, you know, you had a great call there on betting the team total over a little bit more than that money line side. But at the same time, a 4-0 lead, a 4-1 lead, you're supposed to hold that. I don't care how young you're a team you are, how inept you are defensively a goalton. Like I said, you know, get some decent goalton early from Blackwood. If you're a Blackwood, you have to play your A-plus game moving forward, having that lead. Knowing how bad this team is, knowing how you guys are going to struggle at some point during the year. And to get the confidence under these young kids' belts, these forwards, you know, the same thing we said last year with the Hawks, what kind of a dart? Don't spoil kind of a dart games, and they did that often. You can't spoil games with Celaborini and the veteran and Smith and all these guys score. You can't spoil those efforts. You have those guys tripping in offensively, showing off what they can do. The defense has a tighten up even more. And like I said, that's something that's going to have to pick up moving forward. But great offense about put by San Jose would definitely put a pin in this team where now that we know they can score, he said, a lot of overs. A lot of first period overs, a lot of full game overs. And if they can't get the defense rolling in that direction, then that's fine. We can stay away from the running line to just keep rolling with the totals. Looking at that another couple of games last night, Pittsburgh and Detroit. That watched the third period of that. Like I said, Pittsburgh looked much faster, but then like City, Detroit looked completely out of sync on their back end. I had somebody trying to chart me on Twitter talking about, oh, yeah, the mobility is back now. And it's like, okay, he got two goals against the defense that, you know, didn't do shit from 45 minutes. So I'm not ready to say anything, but the mobility is back as a goal scoring threat. But it's a good win for Pittsburgh after coming off of a tough loss. And, you know, that's what's going to determine that wild card race, right? All those teams that we've lumped into that, we talked about the Tupperware that shakes out in the middle. The Detroit to the Pittsburgh's, the Ottawa's, the Buffalo's. It's these little games you have to win that'll add up, that'll come back to bite you in April when you're at two points short, three points short, five points short of a wild card spot. So you have to beat those teams all year long. Those middle teams have to keep beating each other all year long to sort out what's really going to determine those final playoff spots in the East for sure. And then looking at Utah and New York, love to see draw season back with the challengers. Got a little dicey at one point because they'll take a four, three lead, but I said, you end up getting that tying goal and then dump there with the game winner. I mean, once again, they said, great spot for Utah too, in a way, because you have that big win at home. Now get the hell away from Salt Lake City, get on the road, get back to business, and that was a business like when coming from behind late and then getting that winner over time. So that's something really good to see for them. And Columbus and Minnesota here, I mean, you know, the blue jacket, turn up a value and effort. I mean, this is a bad team and obviously with the situations that arise, well, it's going to be tough for them. We like the spot because of the price. Clearly it went three to final. There was no reason why the wild should have been a 270 favorite in that contest, but they did get the win. They got the two points and they played some tough, you know, gritty hockey late when they needed to, you know, shutting things down defensively. That's what they're going to have to do. They can't be involved in a lot of track meets. When they have a three to lead a four to lead, they have to find a way to sell them as well. And you can't let those late, you know, late period momentum swings get you down because that's really what kind of took the wild out of a lot of games last year. Yeah, there's no question and they hang on for that three to win against Columbus. Columbus plays in Colorado tomorrow night. So definitely not going to get any easier for the blue jackets and that's why we said it was San Jose, you know, put more of your bet on the team total. Then the money line, because I said it. Wouldn't shock me if their defense and their goal tending lets them down, but I think they can score three goals. That's exactly how it played out. They score four and they end up, of course, losing that game five four. Calder, what did you think of last night? What are your thoughts? Just overall thoughts at any of the games that stuck out to you. Yeah, well, and I wanted to talk about that. But Alex was mentioning about him because I saw he was on Crosby's line, at least for one of the shifts where he scored that rebound goal. So he could be a guy where like we were talking in last week about kind of sneaky guys that are on, you know, first line or top six now with a new look that could maybe put in like he could score 30 goals potentially. He's playing with Crosby all year on. Well, look at the other guy on his line on Crosby's line with paviliate Drew O'Connor. I had Drew O'Connor prop last night. He scores for Pittsburgh. Keep an eye on that guys that are up on the top line and they're not priced like it. Yeah, I guess all Crosby does too is he takes these kind of mid tier guys that, you know, he did his whole career. He has kind of average winners and he turns them in the 40 goals scores. You know, they go sign big tickets everywhere. Another thing I was going to say is, yeah, feeling Gunther's making that big deal he signed looking pretty good after two games. Not a bad. Someone get paid and actually play like it after instead of sloughing off and, you know, yeah, I got the point now. Yeah, I'm comfortable. Yeah, I don't have to play. But no, I did kind of, you know, a classic, you know, not professional sports better bet and I had a six game parlay in the NHL and I hit five, a six classic. And the team that lost was Florida for me and I thought that was like my one almost, I was like certain that they were going to be Ottawa. That was a tough one to see. But always that one that ruins it. I'm telling. Yeah, that's why they, that's why I guess that the smart people don't typically do those parlays but I like to sprinkle them in every once in a while and. Yeah, I always say if you keep them small, much smaller than your straight bets. There's nothing wrong with them. You know, you know, treating them as equals to single or straight bets are betting more on parlays than single and straight bets. That's to me what I try to tell people don't do that shit. I don't even come close to that. I just sprinkle a little bit on and just makes it a little bit interesting for me but, no, I thought, you know, the Leafs kind of after they got shut out their first game, which is their first shut time being shut out in like three years I saw, you know, they kind of came back and scored some goals and against the Devils and I think yeah, I really love the Leafs this year. I think they're, yeah, they're one of my favorite teams that I think that are, they're going to finally change the mold a little bit of not only just like, yeah, just their overall how they play and what they represent and, you know, Tavares may be taking a little bit lesser of a role. I'm not having the captain see him. So yeah, it was good. I think the other thing too, I thought was interesting is Utah's rink is a little bit different. It's like the seating of it and I don't know if it's maybe it's a basketball Yeah, it is. It's the Delta Center has been used primarily for basketball. Unique is a good way to characterize it. Unique and in some instances not great because apparently there's a portion of the upper deck of that arena where you can't see the ones, the one at the end of the ice. You can't see the net Yeah, like are those, they got to be highly discounted tickets there if you can't see a quarter of the ice. Oh yeah, that's like the crush can back in the day in Moostja here in the WHL. They, the roof went so far down that if you were sitting up top, you couldn't see like the other side almost at the rink like it was just So you had a big similar way further down on the bad side of things. But yeah, it was kind of weird seeing that rink. I didn't know their rink situation at all. I was curious. So when I did see that, I thought it was and just like behind the one net, you know, not having seats for seven or eight rows or whatever it is. I thought kind of weird too. And, yeah, just to tell a chime in on that Ray Ferrar was mentioning that during the, the Hawks Utah broadcast and you're saying how that could be an issue for goalies and even certain defenseman kind of trying to play and read the puck on bounces or dump ends that those those kind of drapes in that that backdrop kind of slanted slope with just a straight black black that could be could pose some difficulty. So that could be something that either opponents catch on the first or Utah catches on the first. I'm sure practicing in there. They might notice that a bit more and that could be, you know, pose an advantage. We don't usually talk about arena advantages like that anymore. Like, you know, in the old days where you had Chicago Stadium and Boston Garden being shorter or Joe Louis Arena having those fast, fast dashboards, you know, usually everything's kind of balanced off in an average, but that could be something that just like we talked about the fast ice and in Arizona last year. Maybe that's something that we could be kind of noticing in on dump ends and entries in that arena. Yeah. Yeah, good call about that. And again, it's not like baseball where there's different dimensions and every ballpark is different. We don't have that in hockey, really, but there are some intricacies. I guess you could say about Delta Center there in Utah that you're right. Maybe the hockey club, the Utah hockey club will catch on too quicker than the opponent. All right, let's turn the page and let's get to Friday night where we have four games tonight in the NHL. We will begin with the Tampa Bay Lightning taking on the Carolina Hurricanes, Carolina minus 145 home favorites, six being the total here in this game. Obviously, the Carolina Hurricanes, a different looking roster, a little bit, especially on the blue line. And one of the points I really tried to hammer home with the Carolina season preview video that we did was the fact that this team on the blue line. I think it's got way more defensive liability in it. Just on paper. I really truly think so. When you look at it, we like Jacob Slavin as a great defender, great defender, great puck mover too. He's great in all areas and great defensively though. Brent Burns, not so much. Brent Burns is a puck mover. Brent Burns is a guy that can shoot the puck play on the power play. Brent Burns is not the greatest player in his own end, especially later in his career. Sean Walker and Shane Goss despair on the second pair. Those are guys more known for puck moving skating, chipping in on the offense. They are not the greatest in their own end, especially Shane Goss despair, which we've seen for years. He is not Mr. shutdown in his own end. Then you have Dimitri Orlov and Jalen Chatfield. Jalen Chatfield is a bit of a rover. He's got some now, of course, with ESPN, some PK Suban in him, where he's able to roam around the offensive zone. You know, have that ability to basically freelance, if you will, and take some chances, pinch in to keep the puck alive in the offensive zone. He's got that kind of game in him. Dimitri Orlov is for years been a really good defender. Hasn't nearly been that way the last couple years. You know, with the end of this run with Washington, Boston, it was kind of up and down for him as well. So to me, Carolina's foundation for years has been their ability to shut you down and play lockdown defense. I don't know if this blue line's got the capability as much to do that this year. I see a lot more, like I said, liability as far as being able to defend in your own zone with this Carolina blue line. Up front, you know, a lot of the same familiar names and faces Seth Jarvis Sebastian Ajo, Marty Naches, who they were worried may not resign. These backs, Betchnikov, Jack Ross Levick, I think is going to be a nice addition for Carolina, and it looks like he might be starting on the top line with Ajo and Jarvis. You have Jordan Martin, who's a guy that can certainly jump up and trip in offensively for you. The captain, Jordan Stahl, they get William Carrier in here from Vegas, which was a nice addition. They have Jackson Blake, Jack Drury, Eric Robinson on a fourth line. There's some speed and some skill on that fourth line. Jack Drury's got skilled. Jackson Blake is a guy that they expect, I think, is going to be able to produce offensively at this level. And those guys are starting on a fourth line. Goal tending, I wish I could still give you an accurate assessment of what Rod Brindomor is going to do. For me, it would be not even an issue. We give it to Piotr Kochakov. It's time for him to be the number one goalie, but we don't know if he's won the job. We don't even know if he's going to start here tonight in this first game. It's unknown. No goalie has been confirmed yet for either side, but we do expect it to be Vasilevsky, of course, for Tampa Bay. We just are a little bit wondering what it's going to be for Carolina here, Freddie Anderson. It's not like Freddie Anderson's bad, but he's not Kochakov to me at this point of his career. And the injuries are always not what, you know, there's going to be an injury happening at some point this year with Freddie Anderson. We just know it's a question of when, and he can't like the way that last game went for him in the Rangers series. You know, he just led in some goals that you got to stop, especially with your season on the line. So there are, I think they're a weaker defensive team. They're a capable offensive team. So my premise coming into the year, I said this on the Kane's preview, they're going to play some overs this year is tonight going to be one of those nights. I certainly lean that way over six, but I'm waiting for the goalie confirmations. One thing I'll say about Tampa is up front. They're going to have one of the best could have one of the best top lines in the NHL with Jake Genssel now their former hurricane, of course, former Penguin. And now, of course, with the lightning, Genssel point and Kucharov can't do much better than that. Hegel, Sirelli, Nick Paul now, Nick Paul getting elevated to a top six role after years on the third line for this team. I agree. Nick Paul's got some offense to him. He's shown it consistently here with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Cam Atkinson, they're going to hope, you know, change a scenery, hit the reset button. Didn't go well for him last year with Philadelphia. You just hope that Cam Atkinson can refine, find his game again here with Tampa playing with Connor geeky, Connor Sheerie, Gergensen Glendenning and Mitchell Chafee on the fourth line. On the blue line, Victor Hedman becomes the captain. JJ Moser comes in from Arizona. He's a promising defense. It's a nice addition that they got back. I believe in the circuit chef deal. Ryan McDonough is back with the lightning, a little veteran shutdown, defensive presence, blocks a ton of shots. Eric Chernak, same thing. They like a mill Lilla Bergen. We saw a lot of him down the stretch last year, Nick Perbix. So this blue line, like I say, it's not what it's been in the past, but Perbix is not bad. He played better than I thought. They like Lilla Berge, Chernak, McDonough, Moser. It's a solid blue line. I don't have as many concerns about it as I did last year. Vasolavsky can he regain his form as the big question, right? That was probably the worst year he's had in his career. Not that it was a brutal year, but it was definitely a blow average year for Andre Vasolavsky. I'm leaning Tampa. I'm leaning over right now. I have not bet either as of now, but I am leaning in both direction. I think there's value on Tampa Bay and they're over their point total this year. I thought there was some value in the futures market with Tampa, and especially if Freddie Anderson's in net, there might be value in Tampa tonight here in the very first game of the year. So leaning into the lightning, plus 125, leaning into the over. I probably will bet the over, regardless of the goalie for Carolina, but prefer it more if it's Anderson. I just really think Carolina's a lot weaker defensively this year. Losing Pashy, losing the changes that they've had in some other blue line, the situation with, again, Gostus Bear Walker, all these new faces on the blue line for Carolina, they're better moving the puck than they are shutting you down and playing stringent, strong shutdown D in their own end. And that's a concern for me with the hurricanes a little bit moving forward, unless they prove me wrong, which they could, but on paper to me, this looks like a weaker blue line as far as keeping the opponent off the score sheet. Alex, what do you think here, Tampa Bay Carolina? Yeah, like I'm kind of waiting and seeing with a few plays as well, but we want to get goalie confirmation on both ends, but I do have the first period over one and a half. I got minus 128 available at FanDulis 130 is available. That's the only thing I do have in pocket right now. Regarding some gold tender, if it is Anderson and it's a basil, that's more likely we'll be adding lightning money line a little bit smaller on that's about it said I'm high on Tampa Bay. And, you know, you know, talk about Florida with the injury of the bar call in Florida, starts off slow, has some injuries, we've seen Boston kind of up and down. Tampa Bay get off to a hot run that'll look pretty good for that plus 525 ticket I have with them when the Atlantic, they need to get a hot start. They need to play well whenever the rest of the division is playing poorly. That's going to be their ticket toward getting to that path sustaining their win streaks and other teams are kind of skidding or skiding at any point during the season. But I think this would be a good thought for Tampa Bay. Someone mentioned about the chat. Yeah, because of the storm hitting Tampa, this will only be one game. This was supposed to be a home and home. And I'm actually kind of shocked that the NHL didn't just go and make this a two game set in Raleigh and flip the game in March to be in the game in Tampa since they only have three meetings this year. That'd be interesting kind of dynamic to see that. Yeah, there's just the one game and then they have to fly back home and deal with all those different things. So you wonder, yeah, if they come off a little slow Carolina gets to get to lead, maybe Carolina just runs away with this game. So that's why I'm a little hesitant and waiting on confirmation for a side and money line side. That's the first period over at you think we see some goals both ways. Also Jake Genssel, a guy who have a lot of props on. I'm looking for him. It doesn't count as a bargain material, but I'm looking for him two or more points plus 220 over a fan. All right, there you go. Jake Genssel over one and a half points. Alex like in that at plus 220. Like I said, and by the way, the thing to keep in mind about Bassaleski is down here. Don't forget the back surgery, which kept him out of action the first two months of last year as well. He's got a late start the last year. Never found his game. He's had a full training camp and he's had extra rest because they got bounced in the first round by Florida last year. So that should help Bassaleski. There's no question. Like I said, people in the chat bring it up the obviously look, and by the way to the people in the Tampa area and in Central Florida, especially. I mean, our thoughts are with you. I mean, that was just, it's horrifying to seeing the damage that's been done by Hurricane Milton. But it's, I try not to factor in the psyche of the players regarding what's going on back home in Tampa for the lightning. I look at it though as look, you're on the road. You try to get away from it just to, you know, for a bit focus on playing a hockey game your first game of the season. I actually think it's a good thing they're on the road here Tampa Bay start the year and by the way, I also want to point out they've actually won in Carolina two straight times last two times they played in Carolina Tampa Bay has emerged the victor. Like that theory lean with that theory a bit more if they had done like I was saying, had the two games set in Raleigh. Then you really kind of hone in a focus where, okay, hey, it's like, you know, like for those guys who played in college, like a weekend series. And if we don't play well in game one, we play, you know, we can recoup and do what we need to do in game two, but like I said, taking their mind off of things. Having that one game in the turn around, we talk about this all the time, but just one game looks on the road and then going back to a home series or one game at home. Before going back on the road, that can just always be a bit different of a dynamic. So considering this and handling said, you know, usually factor that into a handicap, but it could make more of a difference here as opposed to where they had two games on the road to completely forget about it, or, you know, put it out of mind for a minute before having. Right. Yeah, that's definitely a part that's definitely very conceivable. That could be the thought process. No doubt, Jimmy Murphy will be along in just a moment. He's joined us on screen. He'll be, we'll get to him in a moment. The first call there. What do you think you're Tampa Bay Carolina? Yeah, my only thoughts is I see Carolina minus one 50 against Tampa. There's no chance I would ever touch that. I think Tampa is still a really, really good team. I like them just money line and plus one 25. I think that's an awesome bet in itself. I think Tampa is going to be pretty good this year. I like that. I mean, their top line is outstanding. I think that's going to drive a lot of their success. And yeah, my, my one little bet here is with Genssel the score goal of plus one 55. I think that's, I think he's going to have a year. You know, him scoring 40 is very, very attainable. He's replacing stammer. He's going to get all the power play looks point in couch. I mean, couch just puts up points. He he's going to feed. Genssel can score and couch can do everything, but he's an excellent excellent playmaker and passer. And I think. Jake Genssel is going to get a lot of looks this year and put up a lot of goals. So I have him at. For a goal in the game and I would just take Tampa straight up. I like them more than Carolina. Sure. All right, like in Tampa Bay Moneyline as well as Jake Genssel to get on the board again plus one 55 sounds like you might have watched the Tampa Bay Lightning season preview that we did because I'm all over Jake Genssel's everything as well go over goals over points. Yeah, 40 or more goals. And I grabbed some art Ross at 100 to one and heart trophy 200. Yeah, long long shots for sure. But hey, I mean, this guy, I think now rejuvenated. I think maybe in Tampa will see how it goes for him. We welcome in Jimmy Murphy. Jimmy, what's going on? You guys hear me? Okay. We gotcha. All right. I'm in the car is always on a Friday. I was going to say some new season, but some things never changed. Jimmy in the car with us. Yeah. All right, before we get a long time listener first time caller. Yeah, exactly. Of course, make sure you check out Jimmy with Pierre McGuire Monday to Friday, 4 p.m. Eastern with the eye test as well. But Jimmy, before we get your thoughts on this game, Boston Bruins last night bouncing back, beating Montreal. What do you see from the Bruins here through these first two games? I see a disjointed unfamiliar team so far. I know they got the win and I'll give them credit for that. They definitely played better than they played in Florida for sure. But they're still getting used to each other. There's a lot of new faces there. And those new faces did really well last night. But, you know, it's going to take a while, I think, for them to get on board, just like it does a lot of teams at this time of year, right? But I just think right now they're, they're not nearly close to where Jim Montgomery would like them to be. And that's understandable, as I said. The one thing I look at, though, guys, from the other side of that game, you know, and I had the pleasure of sitting with my co-host Pierre McGuire who, you know, you watch a game with him, you see a lot of things you don't necessarily see. This is a fan or recorder because you're looking at it through a management guy or through a scout or a coach. And, you know, we're looking at Montreal and that was a winnable game for Montreal. That game was there for the taking. If they wanted it bad, and I think the players wanted bad enough. What I was kind of stunned. I did not agree with a lot of the coaching decisions by Marty St. Louis. Mainly just basically riding Mike Mathison into the ground and overplaying him and not giving Lane Hudson enough time on the power play, despite the fact he was wheeling and dealing had two helpers and was all over the place and really playing keep away with the Bruins penalty killers. And yet, you know, there were two power plays where Mathison stayed out there the whole time. I don't get that. And over Hudson. That's good. That's. Yeah. Yeah. I, you know, I don't know if it's because he's young. He's new that he has to earn the play. The coach's trust. I don't know if it's his size. I don't know what it is. But they were obsessed with Mathison staying out there, not just on a park on a PK too. And, you know, that's a veteran guy. I think he's still a good solid middle pairing, you know, second pairing or third pairing guy. But, you know, if you continue to do that early on here, he's going to be worn down by things by American Thanksgiving. So that's something to keep an eye on with the Canadians. And hopefully he gives Hudson more times more time guys because he is a point. He's got that puck on a string. He showed that against Toronto as well. He's going to be great for props guys. Just keep riding him on assist. Just keep riding him on assist. That's all. Power play points. Power play points. Yeah, I would say that. Yes. Exactly. But he can't get in many power play points if he's not out there. Yeah, he's got to get the time. Yep. Yep. Yep. So that's just my take from that game. But I, you know, I think the Bruins will come into form as it goes on. I didn't think Swamin was that great, which was to be expected. Training. Yeah. So, you know, I take everything with a grain of salt now, but it was, it was a fun game to watch as a fan. But if you're looking at it from details and all that, there was, there's a lot of things to be fixed on both sides. Yeah, there's no doubt. Absolutely. No, for me, it did cash Curtis Curtis, Melter, but it's a great point. That's why I, that's why I do a lot of my betting on bet three, six, five. You're right. My shark's money line actually cashed when I placed it there because their rule is when you're up by three at caches. So it did cash for me, but I know it for the majority of people that maybe aren't able to use bet three, six, five. Unfortunately may not, may have lost with the sharks last night, but yeah, that's a great perk of bet three, six, five, three goal lead auto cash right there. At any point. So that's definitely great. Jimmy, what do you think of this one? We're talking about here lightning her up. We lost him. We'll see if we can get Jimmy back in a moment. Yeah, that's what happens in the car reception. A 50 50 proposition, just like our bets, 50 50 proposition, you know, the leader win or leader lose. By the way, for props just quickly. I'm on board with the boys here. Alex and Calder with Genssel Nick, you know, I'm going to Nick Paul. Come on, of course. He's been my guy for props with Tampa Bay for years. We're going to the Nick Paul. Well, once again, and he's playing with Hegel and Sirelli. And I'm taking a shot with Cam Atkinson. Just, you know, flip change of scenery. You know, we know there's an offensive talent there in that guy. It didn't go well in Philly, but I think that'll help him. And then for Carolina, natures on the second line. I like Martin Nuke again. He's a guy that can step up and score for you. And Roslavik. Roslavik undervalued to be on that top line with Ajo and with Jarvis. There's definitely a little bit more value on Jack Roslavik there, far as a gold proc in that one. Yeah, Jackson Blake, if you want to take a shot, he's only on the fourth line Robert, but he's got offensive upside. So that plus 400. If you want to take a shot with Jackson Blake, no big argument for me. We got Jimmy back. Jimmy, what do you think you're lightning and hurricanes tonight. Yeah, I heard you guys talking about just obviously a kind of a peculiar position for the for the lightning obviously with everything that's going on back home and, you know, I think it's definitely on their mind but hockey can be in a state and situations like that. As far as Carolina. I'm looking big picture guys. I like, I think Carolina goes backwards a bit this year to be honest. They suffered a lot of losses in the off season. There's still a playoff team probably but I don't think they're the, you know, bonafide cup contender that a lot of people think and I think the light can sneak up on them tonight. Give me them on the money line. Yeah, I think the value is there. I'm just waiting to see who's in that. That's the only thing I'm waiting on here with moving on this game Tampa Bay, Carolina. All right, Chicago and Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Jets minus 260 home favorites. The total here sitting at six pretty much across the board in this one. Obviously a great opener for the Jets. I mean, what can you say? They absolutely piss pound the Edmonton Oilers six to nothing the other night. And very impressed. I was no doubt played a great game played a very solid defensive game. And even though I've got the concerns outside of Josh Morrissey with the entirety of that Jets blue line. Played a solid defensive game. Connor hella Buck despite the struggles down the stretch last year in the playoffs and the tough preseason. He gets a shout out and he played much better. So lots to like with Winnipeg. No question about that. But we've seen this now from Edmonton two years in a row where they've just absolutely been a disaster in the first game or two of the season happened last year it happened again this year. So I don't want to go overboard with praise and shower the Jets with too much credit. You know, for that win the other night. Let's see if they can back it up here. I think it's a Winnipeg team to me that coming off that win. They're a little bit overvalued tonight. And I think Chicago off the loss to Utah. It'll be a little bit undervalued going into tonight. You look at Chicago look after the first period which didn't go their way and predictably it didn't go their way right Utah is feeding off the energy of their first game inside Delta Center first NHL game. They played a great first period. They jumped on Chicago early and I thought the Blackhawks played really well at five on five in the second and in the third period. They just couldn't finish enough and the power play let them down which we talked about when we recap that game power play was a disaster. You know, we got to do something better with the second unit than Pat Maroon the big rig and Craig Smith second power play unit. That's crazy. That's nuts. That's absurd. And you know, I like Luke, but come on Luke. You got to do a little better with that second unit. We'll see if they make some adjustments here tonight in this game. I think there's some value with the Blackhawks here now playing in Winnipeg tonight. I think was way overvalued price here with Winnipeg, but my enthusiasm has been tempered by the announcement of Arvid solder bloom being the starter tonight. We know and I think Alex through the numbers out to me before we started the show. It's like seven and thirty four or something. The record with him and net. So this is like San Jose the sequel for me because I think Chicago's got a chance to hang around and compete in this game. I like the team total more. I'm going to go with this over two and a half with Chicago team total plus money. It's plus one twenty with the Blackhawks over their team total. I got five on five. They played well enough against Utah shore up the power play. Hopefully it'll be better tonight. And it's I think this is even going to be not just seventy five percent twenty five percent split with Chicago team total to money line. I might even go ninety percent ten percent not ninety percent on the team total over with Chicago two and a half and only ten percent on the money line because I am petrified about solder bloom and net. And that could mean Winnipeg's got the door open big time tonight for them to chip in offensively and we saw them obviously put a six spot on the board against Edmonton. I also have smaller bets here over by FACTA first period over full game over here in this game as well. Alex. What do you think your Blackhawks jets. So one of the first games I've met the beginning of the year was this spot. I got Blackhawks plus one ninety. And that was at a time where I thought this would be Laurent with Swaz debut against his old club. And now of course he gets hurt. And here we are stuck with arbiter Blum who yes it's seven thirty four and four and fifty career games played in the National Hockey League. Everybody was saying we don't know you know the sample size is enough to see if Jeremy Swamans worth his money. But yet this is enough of a sample size to say that arbiter Blum does not belong in the NHL even as a backup even as a third stringer to replace somebody who's in. I find that fascinating because I think I've seen more than enough of arbiter Blum in every Hawks fan. I think I speak for every Hawks fan and saying that we've seen enough of this guy. We have to deal with it until Swaz back and healthy and unfortunately I have a plus one ninety ticket riding with it. So I will also be grabbing that over two and a half. I've seen over two and a half plus one eighteen. I'll take a shot with that too because you have to help like have to shut out but Edmonton didn't show up. We know hell of luck's been going through some things kind of struggling at times he can give up three goals. This could easily be a six three seven three jet win. And we cash our over two and a half. So I will be adding that as well. I also like the first period over more than the full game over. I have both but I'm kind of going like sixty forty on that. So first period over because I found the minus one twenty two that fan duel along with that over at six. You know we're hoping that the Hawks can just out score and you know and out out play the defense. You know the offense has to do all the work. You can't rely on your goal tender. You can't rely on about three of your or your defensemen. Four of them except don'ts of the show up. So you just have to keep the puck on the offensive end and try and score as many goals as possible. Give me the Hawks and if you're the Jets just keep doing what you did in the first sixty minutes of play to start the season. Get that offense rolling get the cycle game going. They always play the Hawks physical and heavy. And I definitely see what the Jets get a win here. There's also a bargaining play on the Jets that I like that I'll talk about a little bit later. No doubt. Yeah I mean Winnipeg can absolutely win this game but you're not still late minus two sixty in my opinion with the Jets tonight. I mean we had one goal games three times last year between these two teams two one two one three two. It was never easy for Winnipeg to beat Chicago last year. They were always pretty close competitive games. Now Chicago's got some more offensive punch to them. Taylor Hall's healthy. You bring in Tyler Bertuzzi which obviously helps them offensively big time as well. You've got more options. You've got obviously table terra vine and back in the fold. He ended up scoring of course the other night playing with the dart. And I like that he put tricky Nikki Felino. That's actually nice that Felino's on that top line. It gives them a big body. Open up the ice right. Open up the ice for number ninety eight. And that's what Nick Felino's on that line to do Alex. Yeah go ahead. I was gonna say a couple of things that changed the line. I mean you guys were talking about that with having Pat Maruna powerfully. He's still on the second powerfully but now he's working net front. He's not the bumper for whatever reason why he was the bumper in that game. I'm not sure but he's the net front presence. Nick Felino moved to the top power play line as a net front presence. The table hall moves down to that second power play line. So I like that split up. I like that diversification of offense and having those two big bodies in front. You know like if you're gonna have them one powerfully unit have them there for that reason to screen the goaltender. And also just to finish see you coming back in Craig Smith goes out. I think that'll be a huge boost offensively as well. So they said the honks just need them to get goals and then maybe they can find a way to win. Give Arvin Soderblum the eighth win of his NHL career. But like I said probably want to look more toward team total than anything else. Yeah to me for sure even though I think Chicago's in this game and live. Team totals the better route because I don't trust them as far as keeping the puck out of the net with Soderblum and net and by the way do you think Craig do you think Luke Richardson maybe didn't like that give away that turnover at the blue line that led to a Utah goal by Craig Smith. That was brutal the other night and that could also explain why Craig Smith's out of the lineup here. I was just like that can't make that turnover just and ready for our set it on the broadcast. The brutal turnover. If that's the case that Philip Kershaw should be wearing a suit today too but he's not. Yeah he had a horrible turnover as well. That's because you know you can get some offense from him unlike Craig Smith but still he's got a little better. We're expected to have offense or we don't get offense or we just expect you to have offense. Yeah mostly cardio from Phil Kershaw. Yeah exactly. He goes out there for a free skate right exactly that's about it. Calder what do you think here with this one Chicago win a pig. Yeah my first thoughts was I like the Jets to win I'm not going to take them at minus 270 though. But I think they are going to beat the Hawks I like the over. The over of six total in this game I think this is a game where Badard is probably going to get one or two. I have him on an any time goal at plus 180. That's kind of my guy I also like Timo Tarovainen. For an any time goal it's plus 260 it's great value I think those guys are going to have big seasons there. Tarovainen is a heck of a player. He's going to set up Badard I think quite a bit this year and help him you know hopefully get to that 40 goal mark as well. I think there's a lot of potential there. So yeah I like the over I think the Jets are going to win. But I think the Hawks could put up some goals and I like Badard and and Tarovainen score. All right I wouldn't agree I would agree with that I should say Tarovainen's been pretty solid so far. Great chemistry it looked like right away with number 98 Connor Badard. Jimmy what do you think here Chicago Winnipeg? I'm going to give it to your straight just give me the over in this. Yeah pie guy it's a great point about the Unders. But last year's Unders was a absolutely horrific offensive team for Chicago horrific. You know and I think a lot of those games were when Badard was injured and I think several of those Chicago win out big games he didn't play. So and I know usually series history I pay big attention to that and I don't like going against it. But I'm making an exception tonight because of all the circumstance. And I think and I think those a couple of those were as it starts too. Yeah yeah no doubt so like I said very Jimmy how much time do you have just so I know. I get about another five minutes guys. All right you know what we'll do Jimmy we'll run through the last two games with you and then get a bargain bin and a best bet from you. And then we'll let you run St. Louis Vegas Jimmy Vegas minus 220 total six. What do you think there? I mean it's a lot on Vegas there. I'm going to have to just give the money line I can't touch but I'm going to give you a Jimmy puck line in the first of the year here. Vegas called the Knights minus one and a half not the best value but St. Louis playing last night getting in late. It's not a good look for them. One thing I would look at maybe to you know what you know I'll make this my bargain bin I'll just give it to you now. Vegas first period that'll be my bargain bin. There you go. All right Vegas first period there for Jimmy with that to get the job done. All right Philadelphia Vancouver Vancouver minus 180 total six Jimmy. What do you think there? I'm like in Vancouver and it's a lot guys just because I want I look at them. I would imagine Rick talk it was pretty pissed off at how Lucy Lucy they were the other night and how they gave up that lead. And yeah I know they fought back and forced overtime but that was not a Rick talk it style game. I'm going to go with another puck line here but I'm going to take it even a step further. Give me them minus two and a half over the flowers. Vancouver minus two and a half for the alternative puck line here for Jimmy and you can get that at a pretty good price. And you're right Rick talk it not amused with the defensive play of his team the other night probably looking for a lot better from them tonight in that game. You're right I'm fearful of that as far as Philly is concerned. We'll see if Vancouver can bring it for 60 and obviously want to short things. Plus 250 by the way is the price with the minus two and a half on the Vancouver Canucks. All right Jimmy best bet before we let you run. What do you like here? You know what boys I'm going to I'm going to go right with that one. I know it's a crazy one to have the best bet but give me that minus two and a half is the best bet. I think Vancouver comes out and just takes it to him. All right spoiling the first game of the season for the Flyers. Matt Vamishkov and John Torter-Rallis. So there you go Vancouver minus two and a half plus two fifty for them. And by the way let's get a take from Jimmy before we let him run here with LA and Boston. Early start one PM Eastern on Saturday. How do you think that game plays out? Well it's going to be interesting. I haven't seen if they named the starter yet guys I wasn't in practice today. Um but I'm interested because if they did a Give Corporal shot at his old team to bounce back from the first game. But either way I'm liking an under here. I really am. I like the way that LA is playing right now in terms of structure. Um I really like the you know the fact that I don't know if you guys know I took them yesterday is my best bet on our podcast. And the reason I did it was they ever since they went to over the year they came back. We went to Quebec City to play the Bruins in an exhibition game and they didn't go back to LA. They stayed on the East Coast and you know when you do that so they've been here for about almost like ten days now. It brings a team together and you're also not having to deal with the time change and going back and forth across the country. I think it was a brilliant move by Luke Robitai. I guess it was his idea for the team to do it. And I like them right now to actually go into Boston. I like the under and I like the LA Kings to pull off the upset in Boston. Wow. How about that? Yeah. Good piece of information to note too because we talked about that on the Kings preview that long road trip. That now even makes a couple of spots late in that road trip really juicy knowing that they've been that they've been going for that long. Yeah. Yeah. And I think that last that last game. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That last game. Think about what Buffalo had to go to, right? Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. To them, you know. So I thought that's why I had them last night. That was my best bet and I got a nice, nice hundred dollars on that. So I'll take that. Very good. No doubt. And LA by the way, that last game of this road trip, that might be, they can't wait to get home. They might be feed material. Where is that Montreal? The last game of the trip. Let me check on that. I will. After they play the after this, they play three, the three Atlantic Division, Canadian. Yeah. Yeah. Looks like after this, they've got at Boston, at Ottawa, at Toronto, at Montreal, at Anaheim, at Vegas, and then they finally get home and play San Jose. And that at Vegas, that at Vegas is a, that is a nine o'clock local store, eight o'clock local start because it's frozen frenzy. It's the last game of that frozen frenzy. So not only will they be doing all that traveling and then going back west, but then they're playing a later than usual start because it's the last game of the night. That's a brutal spot. That's like Vegas. Got to be a big, big circle. Yeah. Yeah. Big time. All right, Jimmy. Great stop. We appreciate it. We'll have Jimmy Murphy on Fridays once again this season and make sure you check out the eye test in an hour from now. Jimmy, good to see here for me again and we'll see you next week. All right. Great seeing you guys. All right. There he is. Jimmy Murphy with us. All right. St. Louis Vegas. As I mentioned, Vegas minus 220 home favorite six the total. You know what? I said coming into the year, I'm not going to always be the guy to be the first one to talk about every game. So I'm going to throw it to Alex. What do you think here? Blue is golden nights. I mean, the blues blowing your nine lives already a little early, right? You know, you want to see those cardiac winds kind of happen lately here, not necessarily games one and two, but hey, you want to come back and win the game? They got to come back and win the game. So I'm kind of like all singing. Do we wait and let Vegas get out to a two go lead and then jump on St. Louis live. But no, I actually think this is going to kind of be a complete up and down game. And we, I know I have. I've been always looking at totals whenever St. Louis and Vegas meet. So this is one that I'll probably have them over by fact, and I think you can see both here early and often. I know we saw a hole for last night. So it's going to be more likely at Bennington. Expecting St. Louis. Aiden Hill has been confirmed. That's on the last five minutes for Vegas. I still think this could be a game where we see goals going back and forth. You know, St. Louis, they're playing with the pace. They just aren't finishing. You know, we saw where the times where they just get really sloppy with their passing. Not not having putting up enough quality shots. I think Vegas is going to, if we don't, they're trying to work and be more defensive minded. But I think they'll be able to find some loopholes, find some open opportunities to score against a little. So at six, and they're looking more toward under to Vegas this year. But I think this is a game where we go over first period and over. All right. Over by Fekta. Yeah, I'm kind of leaning that way. Don't have a strong opinion really on this game. I mean, I'm certainly not interested in St. Louis. I think there's a tricky spot after coming back, beating San Jose. You're playing Vegas, Vegas rested back to back. And I was impressed with Vegas. You know, and that's another reason why, you know, let's see how this one plays out was was it was it was gorgia of that bad for Colorado because I thought this was going to be a good defensive team and not an offensive team that would be lagging behind a little bit. But to see them put up a seven spot. Was that just Colorado playing a bad defensive game and gorgia of shit and net? Or are they got as this team got more offense than I think this year. Because, you know, you have Aiko. You have Stone. Those two are going to be fine for you as far as generating chances and scoring. You've got hurdle. But I've been impressed with what, you know, cloche barbership was phenomenal against Colorado, scored a couple goals, holds as a talented young kid. You know, you got some offense from Victor Olafson who showed chemistry with Aiko. Howdy and walk and score from the bottom six. Maybe they are going to have more offense than we think. I do think they'll play better defensively though than they did against Colorado because four goals. I think they're a better defensive team than that. Aiden Hill and net will see how it goes. Like I said, I think there's a Vegas spot could only look at the Vegas side in this game. But I'm just debating them if I want to take it. I would probably maybe look more at a first period puck line given St. Louis's propensity to start slow and come back strong. That if I were to take Vegas, I'd probably prefer the first period team total or the first period puck line in this game. Calder, what do you like here? St. Louis Vegas. Yeah, I was going to mention Olafson through my goal score or anytime goal score in this game. He had a pretty nifty little shot there. Short side shelf last game, I believe it was. And I think he's going to get a lot more attention or his name is going to be heard a lot more being in just being in Vegas. He's coming from Buffalo. He's got an unbelievable shot. I think he has a lot of potential there to score some goals and he could play with some talented guys and bags and just overall on a better team. I think it could be a good change of pace for him in a winning culture. So I like Olafson to score and I don't really, I think Vegas is going to win but I can't touch them on the money line. Yeah, it's kind of a tough say on going with one team or another on the money line there but I think St. Louis is probably going to wake up after their first two games of slow starts. That's typically when teams, you know, maybe it's very early in the season but maybe just have a little meeting or the coach will say something or like there's definitely something being said where we can't have these sort of get behind in games. It's just, it's not a recipe for success. So I actually think they're going to come out a lot stronger than they have and try and make a point, make it a point of emphasis on, we need to have a much better first 10 minutes and get off to a better start and not let this become a habit going forward so as far as a bet goes, you know, I might, I might take, I might take St. Louis just because like the, the money line is it's good value, but I know I just it sounds like you prefer them first period maybe, you know, to not have that slow start for a change. And some, and I will say this, and you know this you played, I'm sure you played some back to back. Do you played some back to back in your career? I'm sure you did. Yeah. Oh, and in the coast and the East Coast, you play three and three is all the time. So you play four and five and three and three is every week. So, so here's my theory. I'll throw it to you, the guy that's played professionally. I think when teams on the second night of a back to back, their legs are there early, right? First period, they're fine. And then maybe later as the game goes on, especially three and four, which this is for St. Louis. Later in the game, we'll start to see them maybe gas out maybe fatigue a little bit. Do I, is that kind of, do I have that right that it seems like when they're on the back to back teams that maybe early in the game will be fine and then later in the game will start to peter out. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, that's definitely a thing. I think both physically and mentally they're just there can be some mental errors if you know you start not getting enough oxygen to the brain there in the second and third period and you get caught out on a long shift and that's just a recipe for something bad to happen. So, I would definitely, yeah, look at sort of, if I had to predict anything, I would say St. Louis comes out hot and they change what they have been doing and getting off to slow starts. But ultimately, I think Vegas will win as they're catching them on a back to back and St. Louis will probably just tire out quicker. Yeah, this is going to be a props game for me. I think I feel just better with, you know, like I say, I lean a little bit, you know, to a over by factor here with Alex, because we have seen some games go high scoring with these two, but I like props more. Like props more. I like close shave bar Bechev against his old team, which is a great angle. We talk about that on this show as well called her about the team, the player playing his old team. It's uncanny. How many times they score a goal against the former team and bar Bechev against his former team, the St. Louis Blues wouldn't shot and he had a great first game, Dorothea and Holtz to me still have value as well. And I would go with Oliveson too. I'm with you on Victor Oliveson there, Calder. I think he's got a good chance and he's got that chemistry again with Eiko. It's going to be stubborn on Dylan Hall the way and bet him again. He's had chances every game. I'm going to stick with it. You're still getting over plus 500 him on the top line with Robert Thomas and Jake neighbors. I think that's worth a look. Looks like Zach Bulldoak has moved up to the second line with Pooch neighbors and Kyrieu. So Zach Bulldoak for the St. Louis Blues might have some good value for him to find the back of the net here tonight as well in this game. All right, final game of this Friday, NHL slate, Philadelphia and Vancouver, Canucks minus 180 home favorites, sixth of total in this game. Now Jimmy made the case for Vancouver to lay a ass kicking on the Philadelphia Flyers. He likes minus two and a half on them alternative puck line. And I do think they're going to try to obviously correct their issues defensively. That was a pond hockey, shinny type of game the other night against Calgary. They could not hold that 4-1 lead and they end up losing to the flames there. But minus one, I've said the part of the reason why I like Calgary the other night is I think early in the season, Vancouver is going to be a little overpriced, a little overvalued. I'm not saying they're a bad hockey team all of a sudden, but I think they're going to have some bumps in the road early in the year and no damp go matters. And we saw that with She-Lobs. We liked She-Lobs last year down the stretch and the effort he showed in the playoffs in net, but he kind of had a bad night for his standards the other night too against Calgary, not just the defense in front of them. So to me, like I said, I think Vancouver is vulnerable to a bit of a sluggish slow start. And I'm not a big Kevin Lincoln guy and it's been announced that Kevin Lincoln is going to get the start here in net for the Vancouver Canucks. He started his career in Chicago, played in Nashville the last two years. The same percentage just never been higher than 9/16. Last year at dip to 9/08, his goals against went up as well. He's also had two seasons where his goals against average was above three. Not that he's not capable, but I still think if there's going to be some issues as far as the team in front of the goalie, which we saw against Calgary early in the year, is Kevin Lincoln going to bail them out like a Thatcher Demko can. You know, that's going to be the question. Not to mention the fliers have played Vancouver very tough. You know, this has actually been one of these weird head-to-head recent series where series history where the fliers have actually played well against this Vancouver team. They've won four of the last five meetings against the Vancouver Canucks. And they've actually won two of the last three here in Vancouver, including last year, came into Vancouver and beat the Canucks four to one. They've taken a small shot. I'm against Jimmy here. I believe it or not. I'm taking a small shot with the fliers here. Now, I am worried about that Rick Talkett getting that team's attention after the bad game defensively against Calgary. They come out much better and stronger here. I think again, at this price, Vancouver is just a touch overvalued like they were the other nights. A shot with Philly here, plus one fifty, maybe sprinkle a little as energized says in the chat with that team total over two and a half. That's something I'm going to be doing a lot more, especially with underdogs moving forward. Talked about it with Chicago. Don't put all the bet on the money line. Put a little bit of it on the team total as well. I think I'll be doing that in this game as well. So that's the leads for me is we'll sprinkle probably those two bets. Little fliers team total over and a little fliers money line here in this game against the Vancouver Canucks. What do you think here, Alex, Philly Vancouver? Well, it's sound like a broken record today because I like all four. This play in all four games. First period over one and a half. I grabbed one thirty. This is the smallest of the four. But it's predicated. Like I said, Kevin Lincoln and starting not the biggest fan of him either. And the flyers with Erickson, you know, we've seen good games from him, but he's not a goalie that I just fully trust to give you just, you know, a shut down effort and quality stuff. He can give up a goal early. He's not. He's not susceptible to to give it up the odd, soft goal here or this. So at minus one thirty. And I think I think Vancouver comes out with a lot more energy, a lot more pace after how things went that last game. So I'm expecting them to score early and I have a player in mind the score early as well. I'm going to talk about the bargain. All right. So the bargain bin for Alex for this Friday will come from this game here. The flyers and the Canucks. Yeah, Dejarnay out Noah Jules and drawing in says a rich H on the blue line. I'm just seeing if they've got. Yes, you're right. We hope play with Forber tonight. Dejarnay will be out for the Vancouver Canucks. As far as props go, I don't want to overreact to preseason, but Matt Vaymeshkov looked the part in the preseason. He looked awesome. So I'm going to go goal assist, maybe even a sprinkle on over one and a half points for Matt Vaymeshkov tonight. Now, again, this is the regular season and you're playing the best roster on the other side, unlike the preseason, when there's a bunch of a gel guys trying to make the team. But still, I think Matt Vaymeshkov looked very confident in the preseason. I think he might be able to chip in for Vancouver. There's value on Heinen and Nebraska, but I'm going to go to a guy that did score the other night for Vancouver as one of my favorite props for them. That's Bronx is bronze bronze bronze bronze Daniel sprawn for them. I think he is going to be a guy that's going to give them a little more punch. He scored against Calgary the other night. And I got to go consider Connor Garland as well. He got on the board against Calgary. He was good for them in the playoffs. Connor Garland continues to be an underrated player for this Canucks team just he's a small player. You know, small stature big heart. That's what Connor Garland is. And he has been, and he's always played well for Rick Talkett going back to when he was with Talkett in Arizona. What do you think here called her final game of the night fliers Canucks? Yeah, I like the Canucks 100%. I don't really, I'm not going to really touch anything as far as betting on them. The only thing I like, I do a little. I'm big on JT Miller. I think he's a stud. He puts up points every year. I like the way he plays. He had a big night the other night there slap shot. Stevie, Stevie, why come Paul Korea actually kind of remind me of them more of the lefty there coming down the window and shelf. So I got Miller at one point and over two and a half shots for plus 165. I kind of like that. I think, yeah, that their power play and just, you know, his ability to just put up points consistently and going into Philly. I don't think they're a great team. And yeah, I, I'm not going to touch touch anything else in this game, but that's kind of the one one that I might sprinkle a little bit on. Yeah, I agree. I think it's one of those deals where totally could see Vancouver, you know, playing a full 60 tonight answering the bell defensively because that just, that was, that just got away from them against Calgary. The team as a whole won't like it. And we know Rick talk it won't like it the way they defend it or didn't defend the other night against Calgary. So that's my fear with being on the fliers here, but they have played Vancouver. Well, you're getting a nice price with them. And like I said, to me, there's just part of the reason I was on Calgary. A lot of it was just I thought Vancouver a little overpriced. I feel that way again here about them tonight. So it should be interesting. I said all those props I mentioned, I think worth a look here in this game as well. And yes, not confirmed that it's Samuel Erickson, but I do expect it will be Samuel Erickson in that here tonight for the Philadelphia fliers in this game. Great stop. Great debut for Calder Brooks's first appearance on the ice guys show. Alex is always bringing the heat. Everyone in the chat, bringing the heat, even bringing the heat at each other. I've seen some arguments here back and forth with some people in the chat. It's just cats been placing the week cat cat came in hot and heavy all week long. So shout out to the chat. Who would have thought first three nights dry nights as far as the bargain bin special. We're still waiting on that first winter of the season. So that's all right. It'll come patience everybody. It'll come. We've been close with some of these. I mean, a couple of the players I've used as bargain bin the first few nights. They've had chances just have not had any finish on those chances. But like I say, we got lots ahead of us with this bargain bin special of the night segment. Alex, we'll go to you first for this Friday. What do you like in the bargain bin? Well, a tease to and I got to I couldn't make a decision. So we're going to ride with them both. I'm going to go first with the Hawks in Winnipeg game. I like Cole prophetic to get a goal anytime. You can find anywhere between plus 320 to plus 350 at Caesar. So shop around, but all within the range of bargain bin special. Cole prophetic to get a goal. And then with that late game. Philly and Vancouver. I like JT Miller. First goal plus 1200. This cash for us a few times last year. I said Vancouver needs to get off to a fast start after the game yet. The other night. And I think they'll be able to do that. JT Miller's usually got to get things rocking and rolling offensively. So Cole prophetic anytime goal for Winnipeg plus 350. JT Miller for school to game for Vancouver at 12 to 1. Those are my bargain bin specials for this Friday night. You know what that JT Miller first goal I might even jump in on that because it makes sense right? They got to start good through the what happened against Calgary's the captain. He's the emotional leader. I think he's become the emotional leader of the team. He is part of the league is better. So I think when you look at it, definitely. A situation where you know he's definitely going to step up. No doubt. And I think he could be live to score that first goal of that game. So two nice choices there for Alex B Smith with the bargain bin special tonight. Here it is. Calder Brooks. First time on the show and his first bargain bin special tonight. What do you got? Yeah, I got Kuchar off for three points in the Tampa Bay Kings game. It's plus 375. The reason I did is because there's a few guys in the league that are just like realistically capable and they do it semi consistently of putting up three or four or five points in a game like Matthews would be a guy would look at sporadically to kind of bet on him scoring two or more goals in the game because you go through stretches where he scores two, three, three, two in a four game stretch, you know, he has 11 goals or something. I think Kuchar off the same way, just more so with assists over the goal sort of thing. And I think that line is just going to shred the lead this year. So I like, I like Kuchar three points, three more points plus 375. It's pretty good value. And I think it's easily doable for him. There you go. Nikita Kucharov, Tampa Bay Lightning over two and a half points or three or more points. However, you want to say it plus 375 for Calder Brooks with his very first bargain bin special of the night here on the ice. I misspoke. Of course, I said JT Miller's the captain is alternate captain. Of course, which uses the captain. But you know what I mean? He's the emotional leader of the hockey team. I think JT, not the Quinn can't speak up. But I just think as far as really riling up everybody when things are going down. So that's JT. I think that probably does that for the Vancouver Canucks. All right. My bargain bin special of the night for this first night of the, or actually not the first night of the season one of my thinking. But my bargain bin special for tonight is going to be Friday. I guess last night, Wednesday and Tuesday never happened. We didn't do shows the last three days. Apparently, Nick Paul, Tampa Bay Lightning plus 390 at bed MGM. Great price playing on the second line in my opinion. So I look, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what Nick Paul can do, especially look last year. Underrated offensive player and John Cooper looks like he's going to start him on the second line. A top six role this year with Sirelli and Hegel on that second line. So Nick Paul, Tampa Bay Lightning plus 390 for my bargain bin special of the night for this Friday NHL slate. All right, best bets to wrap things up. Boy, it's been a red hot start. We have not had a loss yet collectively on the ice guys show with the best bets. We had one push. And that was my Winnipeg Edmonton over six on Wednesday night. But everything else is hit with the best bets so far this season. 3-0 on Tuesday. Alex's winner on Wednesday and then a 3-0 sweep yesterday as well with me, Alex and Matt Robinson. See if we can keep the good vibes and the profits rolling with best bets here tonight. Alex, what do you like for best bet? Let's roll out to Raleigh and we'll go with the first period over with Tampa Bay, Carolina. Over one and a half, I got minus 128 that's still available at FanDuel, minus 130s, 135s are fine. Anything up above 135, I would advise to grab that in game at a lower price. We're keeping this going with the first period over is Tampa Bay, Carolina. That's my best bet for Friday. All right, Tampa Bay, Carolina. Over one and a half, first period, best bet for Alex B Smith. And now the first best bet of his ice guys show career, I guess you could say, for Calder Brooks. What do you like here, Calder, your first best bet for this Friday? Yeah, I got Vancouver four plus goals or four or more goals at minus 110. I like that they're going into, I think they're just going to play the boots to Philly. This is kind of the bottom line, so I could see them scoring six or seven goals. I got, you know, Miller having a good night and I think they're going to kind of continue scoring a lot of goals and probably tighten up a little defensively. But yeah, Vancouver four more goals, minus 110 is my best bet. All right, there you go. That's a Vancouver team total over three and a half, minus 110 for Calder Brooks's first ice guys show best bet, Calder will be back with us tomorrow on the massive Saturday show at noon Eastern 11 a.m. Central. So definitely looking forward to that. All right, my best bet here for this Friday slate. Look, the team total route treated me well last night with the San Jose team total over two and a half. Let's do another team total over two and a half tonight. Chicago Blackhawks over two and a half team total plus 115 at Pinnacle can even find upwards of plus 120 in some other spots. And the great thing about this bet is we don't have to worry about our vid solder bloom. He can do whatever the fuck he wants to in net. Look like Marty Broder for a change, which would be nice, but we don't expect him to, or just do what he always does and give up four or five. Regardless, all I need is Chicago to score three, and I think offensively they can get there tonight. I thought they had a lot of chances against Utah, even though they only scored two. I think and fix the power play a little bit tonight. I think they're going to have a chance to get to three goals here tonight against look a Winnipeg team that could be feeling themselves a little bit after shellacking Edmonton. And now you're playing a little old Chicago here tonight after beating up on Edmonton, who you have a rivalry and a history with. And look, it's never been an easy game for Winnipeg against Chicago the last couple of years. So Chicago Blackhawks team total over two and a half plus 115 or actually plus 120 up there in some of the books as well. That is my best bet here for this Friday NHL card. So let's go Hawks. All right, that's a wrap for this edition of the ice guys. Thanks to everyone for joining us. Just actually before we wrap up Calder, just some final thoughts from you, your first time on the show. Hope you enjoyed it. Yeah, it's been good. I think, you know, I'm obviously not, not the expert like you guys are on the betting side of things and sports and knowing all the different kind of maybe niche bets or more smart things. But I love it. I think it's a fun time to kind of be invested in this with you guys and I enjoy, you know, coming on here for an hour, hour and a half, you know, probably once a week and look forward to maybe we'll see you to see what my record ends up being. And yeah, I enjoy it. It's going to be a good year. Watch a little more hockey than I have in the last year or so. I mean, playing in Denmark. You just don't get that chance to watch the NHL. You don't say. Yeah, I'm just being kind of hockey myself. A lot of those nights, you know, we're playing. So now I'm knocked and these schedules a little different. So yeah, it should be a good year. Just want to throw it out in the chat before we end Robert Oliver Carlson. I assume that he has. He does some handicapping with college hockey. He likes UMass Lowell plus one 50 and St. Cloud State. Yeah, no, I can't back him up whether he's on the mark with those or not because I don't follow it too much. But good luck. And I appreciate that. And anyone wanted to bet college hockey? There you go. A couple of recommendations there in the chat from Robert. Great stuff.
