Today is National Gumbo Day. Gumbo, it is a West African word for okra. Traditionally, Gumbo is a strongly flavored stock that has made chicken and selfish vegetables and all that kind of stuff added to it. Vegetables are usually celery, bell peppers and onions. Then you thicken it up with okra or sassafras to make sure it is good and mixed together and then you serve it over rice. Really good stuff. It came to be in the 1700s down in Louisiana. You'll find deals down there today. I have no idea not so much. But you can try and make it yourself today. Yeah, have some fun and enjoy some gumbo today. Alright, let's see what happened to entertainment in October 12th. Let's back to 1967. Number 1 album, Massage and Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club banned by the Beatles. Next stop is at the number 1 song with the letter. The number 1 book was "Toe Paz" by Leon Uris. Top movie was Bonnie Clyde. It's all about the violent crime spree of killing cops and robbing banks by Bonnie and Clyde. Star is Warren Beatty and fate done away. Alright, what happened on October 12th, 1609 in London. The children's nursery rhyme "Three Blind Mice" was published for the first time. Now although it's set as a children's nursery rhyme, it actually was written with hidden and subliminal message to it. It's actually about three Protestant loyalists who were accused of plotting against Queen and Mary. Yeah, she had them burned at the stake. Yeah, not so cool, but now you know. 1810, the first October fest was held in Munich, Germany. Now it was held to celebrate their future King Ludwig. He was a prince of Bavaria at the time. Yeah, he was getting married. He married, what, three. Now the party went on for a week and they had lots and lots of drinking and lots and lots of food. Everybody had so much fun, they decided just to do it every year. But they decided to move it up until September when it was a little bit warmer and the days were a little longer. So what do you think the groundbreaking inventions that Charles McIntosh invented today in 1823? He called it the Max. No, it wasn't computers, it was 1823. He created the first, the world's first raincoats. 1900, the first modern submarine went into service, it was an American, the US Navy submarine, the USS Holland. Was named that after John Holland, he's the guy who designed it. 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt, he officially renamed the executive mansion, the White House. Over office it won't be built until 1909. Now I have never been to Brazil, so I've only seen pictures of the Christ the Redeemer statue. It's the one that stands on the top of that mountain, overlooking the city of Rio, Janeiro. It opened today in 1931, it's almost 100 feet tall in its arms that are outstretched, they're almost 92 feet long. Catholic missionaries, they paid for it. 1960, over in Japan, in a hero, Asunuma, he was the leader of Japanese Socialist Party, he was a big supporter of the Chinese Communist Party. In fact, he wanted Japan to be modeled after the Chinese Communist Party. Now during a live debate on Japanese TV while he was speaking, 17-year-old Otoya Yamaguchi, he killed him with the traditional samurai sword, the kid ran him through, said he was a nationalist and he wasn't going to put up with any of that commie talk. Now, although nobody liked Asunuma, they still had to arrest the kid, he did it on live TV. Then he hung himself in jail three weeks later. Alright, let's check out who was born in October the 12th. I know, of course, that was Dala Caruso sung by Luciana Pavarotti. Pavarotti was born in Medina, Italy in 1935. The most famous tenor of all time, as a kid, he wanted to be a soccer player, but he wasn't good, he sucked. So his parents enrolled him in a school for seven years for our vocal training. Well, it worked. He got famous for his opera performances and then went mainstream when he formed the three tenors. Pavarotti and sold 100 million records. Now, he's married his first wife, almost 40 years when they divorced. They had three kids, married his second wife in 2003, and they had one child. Pavarotti died from pancreatic cancer in 2007 and 71 years old. The Sam in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame duo, Sam and Dave. Sam Moore, he's 89 today, born in Miami, Florida in 1935. Sam, he got together with Dave Prater, 1961, Sam saying the high notes, Dave saying the low notes. They had to hit Soul Man, hold on, I'm coming, when something is wrong with my baby, I thank you. And they called their quits in 1981, Sam, he did ask success during Soul, I'm playing with other artists. He hasn't retired though, no, even 89, he says he'll come sing if you want him to, he doesn't care, he's married Joyce back in 1982. That was Pat Dinesia, singing lead for the band of smithereens, is born in Plainville, New Jersey in 1955. They'll fall in the smithereens in 1980, now they got the name of the smithereens from the Yosemite Sam cartoons, yeah, where Yosemite Sam will go around and say maybe he's going to blast them in the smithereens, yeah, I probably wouldn't have told that story. Now some of their hits are only a meaning, girl like you, blues before and after. Pat, he was in the band until he died in 2017 and 62 years old, he had all kinds of health issues. He divorced once and had a son from it, that was actor Hugh Jackman performing on Broadway in Boy from Odds, Hugh is 56, he's born in Sydney, Australia in 1968, he's won a prime time Emmy, he's won a Grammy and two Tony Awards, that means he's an Oscar away from achieving the grand slam that he got. Now he was nominated for an Oscar for Les Misérables, but he lost to Daniel de Louis for Lincoln. Jackman, I think he's best known though for playing Wolverine, he's played him in nine different movies, got married in 1996 and they have two children, but they are separated right now, I've been separated for about a year now, BJ Thomas and Dusty Springfield sang that theme song for the TV show Growing Pains, now one of his stars is Kirk Cameron, he's 54, he's born in Panorama City, California in 1970, it's a suburb of LA. Now Kirk, he's best known as an actor anyway for playing Mike Siever on the Growing Pains, I grew up atheist and when he was 17 he became a born again Christian, so after Growing Pains left, he left mainstream Hollywood all behind and went and did his own stuff, he has his own ministry, there's a whole bunch of Christian movies and TV shows, he's really popular on Christian TV, his younger sister, his actress Candace Cameron Burr, Kirk, he married actress Chelsea Noble in 1991, they have six kids, actor Josh Hutcherson, he was born in Union Kentucky in 1992, he started out in the movie, he started in Journey to the Center of the Earth and then Journey to Mysterious Island, then he hit huge playing PETA in the Hunger Game movies, you know what, let's go back to Brazil, now that statue of the Christ of the Redeemer I talked about earlier, it gets struck by lightning three to six times every year, never does any damage to it, well thank you for listening today, don't forget to follow us on whoever you're listening to us on, come see us at coolmedia.com, that's cool three of us, let's end the day with Confederate General Robert E. Lee, he died today in 1870 and 63 years old, Robert says, never do a wrong thing to try and make a friend or to keep one, you guys have an awesome day and we'll talk tomorrow.
