It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. Happy Friday to you. I hope you're good. I hope you're safe. I hope you had a good week. I hope you're getting ready for the weekend. I'm gonna be hanging out with you for the next three hours. This is a four hour show. I get started every weekday, 6 p.m. Eastern, three Pacific. I'm being joined by super producer and host, Ryan Hickey. He's in New York City. Me, I'm in Georgia. Nice. Anyway, we talked about a lot already. As soon as versus the Longhorns tomorrow, we took a look back at last night's action. Man, we had some good games last night. New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx. New York Yankees beating the Royals. I guess it's not good if you're George Brett. We talked about Bob Costas and his boring ass calls. Hey, we got into the NFL. The 49ers with a victory over the Seahawks. And it looks like we have more of a time frame on the return of Christian McCaffrey. Christian McCaffrey, it looks like they're trying to get him back onto the field by week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And so the world continues to spin. The world goes on and we have more sports ahead of us joining us in about 20 minutes. We'll have Bobby Carpenter used to play linebacker at the Ohio State University. We know that's another big game as well. It's the Ohio State. It's going to be up in Oregon to take on those ducks in Eugene. And so we'll talk to Bobby not just about that matchup, but some of the other games that we need to pay attention to this weekend. If you want to contact me in the meanwhile, you sure can. The phone number here is 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. You can find me online. I'm on the internet. I am at JR Sportbrief. Every place that humans and robots and trolls exist. Hickey, did you see the robots, by the way, that Elon, this guy's name, Elon Musk, Elon, did you see no robots he made? - No. - Okay, I'll send it to you. - Oh boy, that's concerning. - You can, I don't know if it's a human inside the, well not inside the robot. The robot is a robot bomb, so you can have a conversation with the robot. - That's for, no. - Yep, no. And the robot can, it can make you coffee. It can take the trash out. It can play blocks with your kids. - What psychopath would say, you know what? Kids go play with the robot. That seems like you are wishing death upon your kids. You don't think one day that's not gonna happen? You don't think one day that's not gonna be a common practice? That one day the robot helps you with the children? Come on. - I hope not. That seems like humanity is just on a true downfall at that point. - We might be there already. - Well, you're right about that. But if that is, let's just say you are correct. And one day that is normal parenting behavior. Hey kids, go play with the robot. Uncle robots here to to watch you. - Well, no, the robot is in the house with you at all times. He just comes off the wall off his charger, I guess. He comes out of the garage in the morning and he makes breakfast and he throws, he's like a modern day rosy from the Jetsons except for he's scary looking. - Maybe that is the path we're going down. But I would not wanna be one of the first test parents to say, all right, bring the robot in because you know nothing is perfect. How many iterations of robots we have to get before they finally perfect the art of, I guess, babysitting? - 10. - We got driverless cars, okay? - Yeah, would you wanna get in one of the first driverless cars? - No, same. - No. - I think I, did I get one? - You've been in one? - No, I did it. No, I did it. Were you in Phoenix for the Super Bowl? You didn't go, right? - I was partly in Phoenix. I had food poisoning at the beginning. So I was literally getting out there but I was there for the last two or three days. - I was like, damn, I don't think I saw you at all, did I? - Well, I was down pretty bad for most of that week. I will say. - Oh, that's, thanks. That's, hickey, that's, my brain is so much mush. When was that? That was last year, right? - That was last two years ago. - No. - Last year was Vegas. - No, no, no, no, no. Last year, calendar 2023. Last year. Forget the stupid Super Bowl years. - Okay, yes, technically yes. It was last February. - Yeah, last year, right, yeah. - Yes. - No, I'm not. - Two football seasons ago, but calendar wise, yes. - Man, I talk years. I can't keep up with the stupid NFL. What Super Bowl are we coming up on, 50 what now? - Oh, I have no idea. - See, my point exactly. - No idea. - Man, I do years, man, I do years. Can't keep up with the numbers, 50, something. Anyway, I was standing on a quarter in Phoenix, right outside of downtown, trying to go downtown to that convention center and a driverless car, a Waymo. It pulled up to the light, you know, Phoenix has those, downtown, it's wide. Like the street in one direction was like maybe four or five lanes. And I'm standing at the curb, getting ready to cross the street. And one of these things pulled up because it was loaded up with cameras, cameras on the top, cameras on the sides, cameras everywhere. And I see a passenger in the back and I look in the front and I go, oh crap, there's nobody in the front. And I'm like, this car was driving itself and the light short changed. And the car went straight ahead. It drove like every other car was going in traffic. And for a minute, another day, I was getting ready to do it. And I was like, I got better things to do. I don't got time to play with a driverless car. So I never did it. - Yeah, that's gonna take a while for me to get used to slash be willing to get in. Just never, you can never be too safe and I'm sure I don't be in the car that defects. And all of a sudden, I'm toast. - It's okay, bro. I'll get you one out. Well, maybe not. I don't know the cost on a robot, okay. - Oh, we can't afford a robot, no chance. - A robot may cost, take a roll, a 250 maybe? I don't know. There's no price in not selling it yet. They're just practicing with it in Elon Musk's dungeon. I don't know. - Oh God. Yeah, that makes me, if the robot was free, I'd say no, thank you. - Oh man, we've seen these movies before. It's all good until the robot wakes up and says to the human, no. - I'm the captain now. - Oh my God. Oh man. It's like, hey, can you unlock the, no. The robots are gonna just be, oh no, we're just gonna lock all the humans in the house because they're a danger to themselves. I've seen this before, I've read it for years. Isaac Asimov, this story's 150 years old about the robots. Anyway, not talking about a bad thing, but something also bad. The Sunday night football is gonna be bad. If you thought Sunday night football this past Sunday, lots of Sundays, if you were as disappointed as I was, that mother nature decided to have a thunderstorm in Pittsburgh. Wait until you actually have to watch this game between the Cincinnati Bengals in the New York Giants. Why is this game on TV? The Giants are on television because it's New York. There's no other reason. There can't be another reason because I haven't found an NFL. Hickey, do people have Daniel Jones jerseys? - Uh, two. - Two Giants fans? - Two Giants fans. I have Daniel Jones eight jerseys that are ugly. - It is New Yorkers all over the place, but nobody wants to see the Giants. And I guess if you're NBC and the NFL, you thought the Bengals would be better. They are one and four. Their defense is pathetic. Maybe that's the saving grace for the New York Giants because by the way, Malik neighbors, they're superstar rookie wide receiver from LSU. Shout outs to LSU, Louisiana, Baton Rouge. This man is still in concussion protocol. We're gonna have to see one day of Robinson go out there and try to help the team win and then go on Instagram live after the game. I'm gonna tune in and I'm gonna hope it's a blowout so I can turn the game off. I'm rooting for the Bengals to smash the New York Giants to save us all time because let's be real. These are two teams going nowhere. The New York Giants are a ticking time bomb waiting to get rid of Daniel Jones because they already got rid of Sequon Barkley. And the Cincinnati Bengals are not turning their season around, they're one and four. I'm supposed to believe that all of a sudden they're gonna go on a winning streak and be competitive and get a wild card spot. Hardly, I don't think so. But Joe Burrow, no one that they stink. And also, by the way, telling everybody earlier in the week the Cincinnati Bengals are obviously not playing at a championship level. He says he's not letting a one and four record deter or slow them down from anything. Listen, I don't know if you balance that. You know, your record is a record. Doesn't matter how you lost them. Mm, you know, the goal of this week is to go one and O for the week and then move on. Oh boy, that's really pretty much all you can do, right? You can't do nothing else. Daniel Jones on the opposite end of the spectrum. He's happy to be at home in New Jersey, playing in front of the giant fans and the two guys who will be wearing his jersey. Listen, yeah, I feel like it's, you know, I'm excited to play at home. I'm excited to get in front of the fans and looking forward to opportunity. How exciting. New York Giants are two and three. I guess they're feeling real high after beating Seattle with that blocked, blocked field goal for a touchdown. Seattle, man, Seattle just losing all the games now. Lost last night, lost against the Giants. Pathetic. Come on, Bengals, you got to win a game here. Go two and four. It's the Giants. Offense thinks, Bengals defense thinks too. So maybe the game will be interesting. I have the bangles beating the New York Giants at home. Go ahead, put money on it. You want to make some money? You lose blame me. You know who cares, not me. I don't care. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Jay is calling from Virginia. You're on the JR Sport brief show. - Long time listeners of the show. Thank you for taking my call. I just wanted to ask you, if the bingles show a really good defensive and offers some performance on Sunday against the Giants, how do you feel the rest of their season is going to go? - I think their season is cooked, man. Like, when I think about, you play for one thing. When you're the Cincinnati bangles and you've gone to a Super Bowl and you've gone to an AFC Championship game, there's an expectation for the Cincinnati bangles to be in the same space of, not as good as, but of in the periphery of the Kansas City Chiefs, of the Buffalo Bills, of the Baltimore Ravens. The bangles are not there. And so even if they were to go on some type of run, run to a wildcard spot to get smacked up, that's the best-case scenario. I don't see them turning the season around. They can't stop anybody. They were routed by Baltimore last week back and forth to shoot out. The week before that, their only victory of the season, they still gave up 24 points to the Panthers. Like, I got no confidence in them. Sorry. - Understandable. Thank you for taking my call, I appreciate it. - No doubt about it, Jay. Thank you for calling from Virginia. I wish I could be more optimistic, but I can just tell them the truth. Bangles, you can put money on it. Put money on it today. Or maybe not. Bangles are not winning the Super Bowl. That's what I care about. I care about champs. Like, being good enough is not good enough. Like, who cares about being okay? If you're a B student, you're a B student. Whatever, what the freakin' do? Right now, the bangles are a D student. You know, this is not a graduation. You know, you're the one to championship where you don't. You don't graduate from the class. Everybody doesn't move ahead. We get one champion. Bob is calling from Wisconsin. You're on the JR Sportbree Show. What's up, Bob? - Hey, JR. Hey, how old you and yours are doin' well? I'm Bob from Wisconsin, and I'm retired to livin' the dream, maybe. - God bless you. - Well, I wanna tell you about that thing back there. With the, um. - What? - Robots, I mean, just think. I mean, okay, now they're playin' games with your kid. And then eventually, it won't be that hard for 'em to teach 'em, to make you like breakfast, maybe lunch, and then the next thing, what? Oh, can you watch 'em while I'm at work? Just for a couple of hours. - Oh, crap. The robot to watch the kids? - Oh my God. - And when they go on and on it, can I get away for a weekend? - Oh my God. - Next thing you know, they're raisin' our kids. What kind of kids are we gonna have? - Hey, excuse me, Bob, I gotta tell you this. It may not be a walking talking robot, but robots are already raising our kids. - Yes, I can, in a way, I guess you can say that we may work and watch everything we do. - No, no, I'm talkin' 'bout the phones, and the computers, and the apps, and the algorithms. They're already programming the kids' brains, all type of funky things, uh-huh. - Oh, come on, Jay, are you not out on that limb? Are you really? You're not getting programmed by something we still think? - Wait, hold on a second. - I'm not gonna go out and have a beer. We can go have a beer. They're not comin' up. No, you can't. You gotta go to bed. - Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob. Let me tell you something. - Okay. - For someone who works in media, the art of programming, isn't necessarily programming it's scheduling things out, so people program their behaviors. It's no different than advertising, or signaling. Hey, Bob, you don't have, you got Facebook? - I do, and I don't like lookin' at it 'cause they got all the bull out there. - Yeah, well, yeah, Facebook will think about Instagram and TikTok and what the younger people are lookin' at. They're being programmed, they are. What do you like? What don't you like? I need you to come back and watch this. Watch me instead of the television. It exists, Bob. - It does, I understand it does, but I'll still go sit out on the lake and fish before I'll, and I'd lose my phone over it. Do I want my phone, or do I wanna go fishing? - Well. - The freaking phone, I'm goin' fishing. - Well, good on you. I think the majority of younger people growing up don't wanna go fishing. I think they wanna be-- - They wouldn't go fishing without their phone, if not two of 'em. - Yeah, well, Bob. - HDR, it's been a life, I'll tell ya. - Thank you so much, Bob. Take it easy. - You. - Yeah, that's called programming, Bob. Not putting your phone down, programming. It's the JR Sportbree Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network, 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. We're gonna take a break. Due to our programming, on the other side of the break, we're gonna have a conversation with former Ohio State linebacker, Bobby Carpenter. Getting ready for a full slate of college football action. On Saturday, we've already talked about the Red River rivalry. We have another big matchup going down in Eugene, Oregon to talk about those two games and more and everything going on. It's time to have a conversation with a man who played in the NFL, a man who knocked people out, knocked skulls around at the Ohio State University. You can now catch them all over the place on radio and television. Joining us right now, it's Bobby Carpenter. Bobby, thank you for the time. - Chair, I think you've had me on. - Excited to be on with you guys and, you know, the more you start talking about knocking skulls around, I mean, at 41 years old, that seems almost like a distant memory as I watched these young fellows run around and see the speed and violence of the collisions. - Oh, no doubt about it. Well, I'm sure how many more hits you got left out? You can get a call, right? - You know, it's funny. The Bill Parcells, you always say, "I have one good fight left in me. Don't let it be you." I told somebody, "Well, you got one game left in me." They'll go run and do stuff with the guys in Ohio State still and train with them. They go, "It's not the game, that's the problem. It's the waking up the next day and trying to go train and prepare for another game. It's never the activity, it's always the recovery." - No, Bobby, let's talk about those guys at every now and then. You're still sure up without in Columbus, the Ohio State University. What are your thoughts on what you've seen so far this season? Oh, we know this is pretty much the first big game going out to Oregon. - The season obviously didn't have the big non-conference game this year, and you have Commerce Realignment, Washington was supposed to be on. They got pulled off because obviously the scheduling and the big 10 merging was a lot of the top tier teams in the Pac-12. And they've kind of had this slow build, this methodical build. And when you look at this offense, with what they've been able to do, there were some questions on the offensive line to start the season. Chip Kelly comes in at the offensive coordinator, does a fantastic job. They've been able to run the ball extremely well with Brady on Harrison, Quenchon-Juckins. Both of those guys have been highly impressive. They've got a top five offense in scoring. They've rushed the ball well. They've been passing the ball very well. Everyone's seen the Jeremiah Smith highlights. And Mecha Buka is the senior leader at three touchdowns receiving last week. But really that offensive line has been spectacular. So when you can run the football, that travels, when you have a veteran quarterback, fifth year senior, that travels, who can use his legs. She's used them a little bit. They put someone on film last week. You know, and we've watched him be able to throw the ball very well and very effectively. And so it's been pretty impressive was what they've been able to do. And defensively, you know, they haven't had crazy cuts. Michigan State, that's a good wide out, a good quarterback. But they've, the secondary is really good. Caleb Downs coming in, the defensive line's been pretty good and the linebackers have been developing. And so they've got this really, really talented team. Now they're going to have to see if they can take this talented show on the road and take it out to Eugene, Oregon, and play in a very hostile environment at night. Former champion with the Ohio State Buckeyes Bobby Carpenters. Here with us on the J.R. Sport Breeze Show. All things considered. This is, this is a welcome to the Big Ten when you take a look at Oregon. Do you expect them? It'll be a good game. But don't you think Ohio State is going to beat them? Especially, you mentioned Chip Kelly returning to Eugene. I know it's been a while, but Ryan Day and Chip Kelly going out up there, I would, I would take Ohio State. Yeah, you know, I think there's three, three and a half point favorites. Like we've been waiting for this. We got a dance with the USC and Michigan play, which was a great iconic matchup. Like these used to be Rose Bowl matchups. So now we get to see them in the regular season. Penn State heading out to USC this weekend. Now Ohio State heading out to Eugene. So I know everybody's really excited about it. I am for sure. And you know, having Chip Kelly out there, he, you know, I, I, I built with Chip the other day. But you decided to go back, you know, what was the last time? He said, well, we went there a couple of times to UCLA. And I'm excited to go back with this squad of players because the talent that Ohio State has helps a lot. And talent ultimately wins games. I think this Ohio State team is as talented as anybody in the country. They've been playing really, really well. So it's going to be a hostile environment. It's going to be tough. But this is the conference realignment while it ripped apart some rivalries and, you know, there's some issues. And I'm not in favor of everything that's happened. It does give it some gems like this. And this is going to be exciting to watch. Well, you talk about rivalries, Bobby. We see that even heading over to a new conference hasn't stopped Texas and the Sooners. I'm looking at Texas to beat Oklahoma. I don't think Oklahoma has the offense to keep up with them. What do you think about that rivalry? And what do you think about this new alignment at least? We've kept this rivalry even though they're in the SEC now. That's the SEC version of the Red River rivalry. Now, Texas State Fair being in Dallas, the Cowboys for a number of years, they're getting to be around that. It was pretty sweet and getting a chance to see just how different and unique it was because it's that neutral site. You see the stadium split at the fairgrounds and it's at the old Cotton Bowl. And, you know, as much as we try to modernize everything, it's in the stadium that's super old and doesn't have all the frills. You know, I like Texas in this. You know, even if Quinn Ewers is 90%, I think Texas is good enough to win it unless Hawkins, you know, he would have to do what Bill and Gabriel did last year. Ironically, like we're talking about him with Ohio State and Oregon. You know, he was the Oklahoma quarterback for a couple of years. You know, you looked at what he did last season and they won that gaming. It's like a hundred on the ground and 300 through the air. I mean, that's basically what Hawkins would have to be able to do. I think to give them a shot. The reality is too, like Texas is so deep. And even if Ewers is nicked up, he's not 100%. I still think they have enough. And if he's so bad that he got issues, they ought to pull him out. I mean, Arshmani is proven that he's more than an adequate backup and he gives you a little bit of juice with his legs as well. So I like Texas in this one. I hope it's close just for my viewing pleasure. I wouldn't, I don't want to see this thing getting stressed by more than 10, heading into the fourth quarter. But I should be an exciting game, but the Longhorns, I think they're one of the best teams in the country. - Do you trust Quinn Ewers to be healthy? I know you don't have a crystal ball neither do I, but it seems that every time he gets on a roll, there's a small injury. I think one of the reasons he's still at Texas and not in the NFL is because of the injuries. Do you trust his durability through the rest of the season? - I think he'll be okay. He's not the biggest guy in the world. He doesn't have a huge frame, but he throws the ball well. He moves pretty, he's not an amazing athlete, but he's a good athlete. He moves well for a quarterback. He's just gonna have to continue to add math to his body. And that's the reality. Even though he's a fourth-year player, he reclassified, came to Ohio State early. And so this is literally a third year in college. I think by the time he gets in the league, he's finished his system stuff up. I think he'll add another 10 pounds to his frame. I like Quinn, he's a hardworking kid. He's got a great arm. I think he'll be okay. It's just some of these guys, the maturation process, physically take a little bit of time. - Bobby Carpenter is here with us, played for the Buckeyes. You might remember from the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the Lions. When you look at some of these other matchups over the weekend, I'll take a look at USC. They've taken on Penn State. They've already lost to Michigan. They just lost to Minnesota. Can I kinda like wipe USC off of the map here for the rest of the year? - Well, the playing Penn State, they find a way to win this game. They are at home and the big 10 record when you're crossing two time zones this season has been one in seven. The one outlier is the Indiana, the Smack UCLA. And it was persignetty that Indiana team is pretty darn good. But I don't think they're gonna win it. I'm holding some reservations back. The reality is Michigan went and they could not throw a ball on USC at all. And they still won that game. They just pounded them. Minnesota is the nearest talented as Michigan. And they just went in and bumped their well. And they ran a quarterback sneak on fourth and goal from the half-foot line. When it's a tie game, a field goal wins it. There's 53 second class and they do that. And so that's them saying we're tougher than you. As good as USC is, they always got big boy by Utah. That's the most of the big 10. Like that's the team you're gonna play. So if they can find a way to stop Allen and Singleton, kudos to them. And you know what, they'll, Indiana Tomlin I think has done a better job there. As their coordinator, they've still got some more to do. 'Cause they can find a way to get some stops and let's know I'm off to the heck of a quarterback. They've got a good offense. But you can't just be big brain offensive guy. Lincoln Rally is a head coach. Like you've got to coach the entirety of your team. And he can coach offense, but they have to find a way to get stopped. They've got to get tough up. They beat Penn State, they've got a shot. But if not, like this year, I think is a loss cause. - You mentioned Texas being, you know, one of the top teams, obviously, it's number one in the AP poll right now. What are the teams that you think can elevate to legitimately win the championship? We got Ohio State, we got Georgia. What are you thinking? - So like there's teams that I say are playoff contenders. And then there's teams in my mind that are like national championship content. - Right. - And so I look at that like in two kind of different scopes that can you make the playoffs? Like could you get there? Yes, but once you get there, could you win it? And so I kind of try to segregate that out. Like Texas, I think, can have a chance to win it. I think Ohio State can win it. Oregon, I think, can. We'll find out a lot tomorrow. Cause even if they lose Ohio State, you got a tight game. You're getting in. You're going to probably be lost. Maybe they play again in the Big Ten Championship. So I think they have a shot. I think Penn State has a shot. I think Georgia has a shot. Bama has been obviously hot and cold, but they have the talent to do when they're really good. I think Tennessee has a chance to do it. I think Ole Miss, they're a little hot and cold like Bama. They have a shot and they're playing LSU, so we'll find a lot out about them. Like I think Clemson can get in, but I don't think Clemson can win it. Like I think they're a really good team. We wrote them off too soon. I don't think they have the staying power to get it. Miami, I got to find out more from. Like Kim Ward's been great, but have you beaten anybody that I really feel good about? And so that's kind of my list right now. Like Hanful of SEC, Hanful of Big Ten, maybe Miami. I don't think Clemson, I think Notre Dame can get in. I don't think they can win it, and that's kind of where I'm living right now. Bobby Carpenter is joining us here on the JR Sport Re-show Coast to Coast. Let's switch over to the NFL right quick. Who are the teams that you played for? The Dallas Cowboys and the Lions are going to go against each other, down in Dallas or up in Arlington. What are your thoughts on what the Lions have been able to do and how you expect them to compete in the NFC this year? Oh, Dan Campbell. I never got chance to play with Dan. He had left Dallas the year I got there. He's a college station guy, you know, grew up. You know, in Texas, played at A&M, and him and his wife, Holly, they stayed in Dallas in the off season. You got a chance to know him or Whitmore, good buddies, played against him in Detroit. Like Dan Campbell's the guy you want to play for. I mean, he is tough. He is physical. He might smoke a pack of Marlboro Reds with a chew-in at the same time, and people are going to like pass that off with him being like this tough meathead guy, but Dan, if he's a small football guy, he gets it. He knows it. His players love him. And they're going into Dallas and making him think about it. Like, players hold judges. Like, no matter whether or not you're done, so maybe you have a better option. When you leave somewhere, you always hold it against them. And Dan, going back to Dallas, his home state, he's got a really darn good squad. I think Dallas is dangerous, but I don't think they're going to be able to come in. Listen, as well, Aaron Glenn AG, their defensive coordinator, if he was with me in Dallas in his last season, he was a guy who grew up watching. He's done a great job revamping that defense, but really that line's offense. And he would give their top, their physical golf, when he is locked on. He may not have the best crazy physical skill set, but he's been really thinking good. I like to all lions to win that thing. And honestly, guys, I think they're the best in the NFC. Yeah, well, you look at the injuries to the 49ers and McCaffrey, I would put the lions right there up at the top. When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, you know about the intensity and the expectations of the fan base. Correct me if I'm wrong. Honestly, the Cowboys, it seems that they're just running in place at this point in time. What are your thoughts on where the franchise is in regards to trying to get to a championship? So you look at them, like they had to divest some of their older players, some of their more expensive players, and they paid Dak. You know, Parsons is hurt right now. I'm not sure if he'll be back this week. You know, Dak, I think, I don't think Dak's a top five guy, but I think he's probably top 10. And what he gives you, like, somewhere between six and four, they're really good. The problem is if he's somewhere around, like, 10, 11, 12, I don't know if he's good enough when he's not at his best for them to win, and it will beat good teams. So I think, yeah, they're going to make the playoffs. They'll probably go 10 and seven. Maybe they win the division. Maybe they go 11 and six. I don't see a playoff win in their future. I definitely don't see them making an NFC championship. But if that's the case, like, I don't think Jerry Jones stands pat with the current coaching structure with what they have. Oh, yeah. Jerry Jones, he's itching to get to the end of the season to push that button. Hey, Bobby, I appreciate the time and your expertise. Where can people follow? You keep up with your radio work. You too, I'm going. No doubt about it. That Bobby Carpenter, former champion with the Ohio State Buckeyes, former linebacker as well for the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions. It's the JR Sport Re-Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Yeah, I agree with what Bobby just said. Dallas Cowboys, what are they running to? Not a championship. You're not as good as the Lions. I got the Lions beating them down in Dallas. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, we're going to talk about two teams that are going to be competing for a chance to get closer to a championship. And they're going to do that in about 30 minutes. We're going to talk about the Padres and the Dodgers. This is going to be a good one tonight. The winner advances to the National League Championship Series. You are listening to the JR Sport Brief. It's the JR Sport Re-Show here with you our coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much in our last break. We were joined by someone who used to knock people out for the Ohio State Buckeyes, for the Lions, for the Cowboys. Thank you so much to Bobby Carpenter for joining us in the last break to take a look at everything going on in the world of college football, including his Buckeyes, as well as two of his former teams as well, the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions. If you missed any part of that conversation, go ahead and hit Rewind on the free Odyssey app, A-U-D-A-C-Y. You said the Lions are probably the best team in the NFC. Dallas Cowboys not equipped to compete for a championship. He thinks that by the time the season is over, that Mr. Mike McCarthy might be out of work. Maybe you might want to consult with head coach or former head coach of the New York Jets Rob Salah. But that's for the end of the season. I want to tell you about something that is going to take place tonight. This is going to be pretty cool. Because in about 30 minutes from now, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Diego Padres are going to go at it in Los Angeles. This is game five of the division around. This is winner, take all. At one point in time, it looked like the San Diego Padres were in control until Wednesday when the Dodgers just battered them, ate to nothing out in San Diego. And so now they return to Los Angeles. The Dodgers are trying to go to face the Mets. Padres are trying to face the Mets whoever wins is going to get home field because the New York Mets are the wild card team in this situation. And this matchup might as well be a blood sport. The fans in San Diego, they hate the Dodgers. The Dodgers hate the Padres. We had people throwing baseballs at the play. This was just nuts. We had players throwing baseballs at managers. This was a wild situation. And we got a matchup between Yamamoto, the man who got a 12 year contract, $325 million. He never threw a pitch in Major League Baseball they gave him this money versus you Darvish. But what gives you Darvish has been up and down. Did have a solid game to seven innings, one earned run. Yamamoto only pitched three innings, gave up five runs and his only appearance here in the series. And so something has to give because somebody's season is going to end tonight. If you take a look at the Dodgers, you can say, oh man, they're pitching all year at stock. I mean, now you got Walker Bueller coming back from injury. The guys, ERA is like five and six terrible. All this money, the Dodgers have spent, you expect the World Series. And then the Padres, they've gone for broke. Bringing in guys before the trade deadline, Luis Arayas, and it's just bringing in everybody. Early end season, right before the season, Dylan Cease, AJ Preller, all these relievers, he is going for it. He's going for the championship. And so tonight, we'll see if the Dodgers bats can do the job. And while the Yamamoto can even show up and pitch more than, I don't know, four innings. I'm not going to count on it. This is going to be a good one. One of the big villains in this series, I think he's a villain everywhere he goes. Fernando Tati, Jr., he says, it's win or go home. - I mean, go out there. And like you said, when it's like all, there's still a lot of baseball to play in front of us. So it's going to be a fun game five. - Let's see how fun it is. Hickey, name some of the words the Dodger fans are going to yell at him when he gets to the plate. - Oh, geez, the clean ones. - Oh, clean. - Clean, right? I don't want to get fired on Friday. I'm sure they will use some sort of version of cheater. - Oh, yeah. - Maybe like juice head. - Oh, juice boy. - Juice boy. - Fraud. - Fraud, wow. - These are the clean ones? - These are the clean ones here, yeah. 'Cause I think they're going to say, I think that's, if you're for an energetic, so that's all you're hearing, that's probably a win. - And what about jerks and profile? What are they going to chant at him? - Oh boy. - They're going to throw stuff at him again? Like baseballs. - The chants will start with peace. - They don't go of? And you can fill the third word there. - Oh, oh, I bet that's, yes. - Peace cake. - Peace cake. - Everybody loves cake. - Yeah, a piece of cake. It's going to be fun. - Oh. - You know, this is, if you're a Padres fan, do you dare show up? Do you want that abuse? Do you show up? - Now, do you think the abuse is equal towards the players or towards the fans, I should say, as it is the players? - Oh my God. Well, the players are protected. - Right, I mean more like, obviously the Padres fans, or the Padres players, right? Like the Dodger fans have a lot of vitriol towards the players. I guess it's the same for the fans too, I'm guessing? I guess my question is like, I've not seen many videos of fights at these games, thankfully. Are you having, you have? - I don't listen, the Padres and the Dodgers, just 'cause we haven't seen the video, doesn't mean there's no fights. - True. Would you wear a Padres hat to the game tonight, to sit in the outfield, to sit in the left field at Dodger Stadium? Would you wear a Padres hat? - If I was going to the game, I would. I don't believe it. - What? - I don't believe in going scared. Like if I'm gonna go to the game and I'm a Padres fan, I'm not going to try to be incognito, sit there quiet anytime the Padres score. And it's like, that's not enjoyable to me. Like if you're gonna go, be a fan, wear the hat, share on this score. - And get cursed out the whole time. Get cursed out for four hours. - I mean, you kind of know what you're getting into, right? Like anytime you go into enemy territory, you have some sort of idea. - Have you gone, have you gone to a game and been cursed out? - Oh yeah, well, I've gotten spit on in previous times. - Excuse me? - Yes. - Who spit a Phillies fan? - It was actually, I'm not a Phillies fan. It was a Rutgers University student back in the day. - A Rutgers University student spit, where were you? Were you at Rutgers or a happy val? - I was at Rutgers. First and only time I'll ever go there. - What do you call somebody from New Jersey? - New Jersey, and I think New Jersey, right? - I don't know. - Well, there's some other words we could use that. - What, people from New Jersey? - Are not applicable here. - Oh my God. - Would you get spat on for, what did you do? - Well, it was the first ever big 10 game for Rutgers. So they were juiced up. And of course, you could imagine the Sandusky jokes were flying. - Oh my God. - I'm not gonna pretend to be innocent here. I will say, this was around the same time. The whole Ray Rice thing did happen. - Oh my God. - So there was just a lot of barbs being traded back between Rutgers fans and Penn State fans. Not the classiest tailgate scene, we'll say. - You had a tailgate, not inside. - Yes, this was, yes, in the tailgate fields, well before we got in the stadium. Some guys said something, so I said, you know, I had enough, I'm gonna say something back. I say something back. He walks up, spits on me. I'm like, all right, I'm ready to go. I turn around, all my friends left. It was like five dudes. And I'm like, all right, I'm like, I've never gotten to fight my life, but right there I was ready to go. And I look, I see him alone. And it was one of the most defeating moments ever. I had to just walk away. - Oh my God. - What am I gonna do with that point? - Karma got him, Hickey, don't worry about it. Karma. - I hope so. But that was time. - At this point in time, somebody spit on him, his wife left him, took his money. Kids don't like him, robots are gonna raise his kids in a few years. - Yeah, who's laughing now? Who's laughing now? - Yeah, Karma got him. That, you know what, Hickey, I was about to curse him out. On your behalf is a long time ago. - Don't get fired over that clown. - No, I'm not, I'm angry now, Hickey, I'm angry. Now you got me mad. I need to take a break, I'm so angry. The JR speed, you spit on Hickey, it's disrespectful. Now I'm hyped up, Hickey. Now I gotta go play football. - Now you wanna go to LA and wear a podra's hat and ready to mix it up? - No. (laughing) Not quite.
