[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Yes, it's the FYP podcast mid-week special Question Time. We'll be taking your questions on Ishmael Assah, Hiberi Eze, Dychey Kamada and more and previewing a big weekend against top 16 for the Palace men and women's team. On this week's FYP podcast, part two, Question Time. [Music] Hello, welcome to the five-year plan podcast. A weekly part two questions special that we're now releasing later in the week. We're going to be going through your questions in a bit and then previewing Saturday's late afternoon clash with Manchester United at Cellhurst Park. Obviously, we've had the QPR game this week as well, so a lot of these questions are QPR fresh. Sounds like a sort of weird to you, you're only getting west London. Joining me to chat through those is, Jack Pierce, Jack, how are you? Yep, fine. Yep, in and out job last night, wasn't it for all of us? What about QPR? Oh, here he is. Okay, come on mate, you put 18 plus for that type of content. Come on, come on, come on. Okay, that's two of his tapping. And Jo Walker is also here as well. Jo, how was your trip to west London? Well, you know, it's been a while, some of it changed, some of it was very much the same. I was disappointed to find that the spring block was now the Queen's Tavern and, but I did try Taco Bell by Shepherd's Bush. And yeah, wouldn't recommend, but glad I did it. And I should have really known by the lack of Q compared to all the other food establishments on the parade. No, but there we go. That kind of review is more like when you've gone on a roller coaster at a theme park. Glad I did it, but wouldn't recommend less good for food, I think, but there you go. It's all part of the matchday experience. We've got questions as before we get to questions, Jack, I'm just going to put a couple of comments because we've got often listeners sort of leave their thoughts in their comments. So Gareth Richards, aka Gareth from California, has said good win. Bring on the weekend. I hope you can replicate the outcome. So he's looking positive to one victory. He's been clever with his comment there, though. He's right. The outcome was what we all wanted, but we'll get into the performance. Okay. Whereas Rob Dias, Rob Dias, who can also tell you a great deal and a grill, says Daha perform. And so much more. And so much more. It's actually my favorite shop now of turn 40. It's like a sort of candy shop, but oh, good. So good. So much good. So anyway, Rob, if you're out there, sorts of deal. Yeah, again, Will Hughes is our best player when he come on. How did we get out of this rut? Look, not looking forward to Saturday. So the form and the results are kind of splitting the fan base at the moment. Daniel J. Edward says, didn't it look like we've got out of second gear. Was this a Palestine taking it easy on the United game, whereas Gary Neat, much like Garris, says fruit the next round, close the door on that one. Where do you stand when it comes to the last two games, but specifically QPR? Sorry, what was the name of the last gentleman who commented? Gary Neat. Yeah, I'm with Gary. I'm with Gary. We need to kind of shut the door on that one, got through. Could have been a tricky game. But yeah, not one to write home about what it was. Pretty turgid stuff. We're just not clicking. If you compare it to the end of last season, which I'm thinking we really should stop doing, it's like a different sport, the speed of which we're building up. The instinctive combination plays, just not there. Daniel Munoz looks knackered, Tari Mitchell is not playing with the level of instinct. He was playing towards the end of last season. Abs will be, he's called the winner last night. It still looks a little bit hesitant. JP still getting up to pace, and then you've got question marks about the defence. And I wonder if I had some questions about the defence because I've got a couple myself. But got through last night, he said earlier in the week, got to make the most of such a tie, such a draw, a way to a second tier team. Now through to the last 16. Performance wasn't great, but the result was what we wanted. We'll talk about the United game a bit later, but yeah, that there are improvements needed across the pitch. Let me put a couple more comments to you then, Gio, because David Stuckey has written slightly lengthy one, which I don't normally read out, but I'm going to do it quite quick question. 222 on the season, two wins, two defeats, two draws. Thank goodness those two wins are both from the cup. If one of them had been in the Premier League, it would still be a fairly lackluster beginning, and we'd be out of the cup. Palace that uncoordinated impotent, calm down, David, and disinterested in attack today. Glasgow has to find a spark, where it's been egged by money. It's really interesting seeing the divide and people coming at the issues right now simply says, are we a work in progress? I think we're a work in progress, even though, you know, even if we are kicking on, and I still think we are trying to progress and kick on, it's not immediate because of just the personnel changes, we've all collectively accepted that we've chosen to, well, you can see the club has not tried to replace the outstanding winger that went in the summer. We've rather assembled a number of players with that money and tried to have a more, a little bit more depth in that area, let's say. And, you know, some of the issues that we raised in the Leicester game, the idea of it's another 11, it's another defensive line. It applies again on Tuesday, you know. We did want some players rested, but, you know, it's La Croix, Gay, and Richards this time instead of La Croix, Gay, and Klein. It's, you know, it's Dicaichemada in midfield, which was probably the one that, probably to me, the most surprising selection in that starting line up in that position. And then, of course, you've got the front three who are still getting familiar with each other, certainly with Eddie Dinkettio, who, although I've been enjoying his performances, it's a position he's not really played, but I had to, this time at Palace. So, there's lots of stuff to get familiar with in terms of, as a fan, in terms of the playing person as well. I don't think it's going to click for a little while. I just, I can see there being more changes, which I don't really know the solution to that, because the fitness is going to be tested the more we keep trying to assume that certain players will be fine while we work out the rest, but I just don't think the football doesn't work like that. So, I am expecting a lot more little itty-bitty changes, and we'll start to get more familiar with what this team should look like. What I would say is, you know, we are through, and that's important. Compare the sort of lackluster performance of Tuesday to what we were annoyed with in forward areas on Saturday, it is still, you could, we played better the Leicester going forward, and that was seemed to be because of intent and intensity, and that's because of the type of game we played. I think it wasn't a cut tie, I don't think you'd have seen Palace play like that. Having gone one up against lower league opposition, you felt the team settle, and there was an extra touch in a lot of the build-up, there was a reluctance to hurry things along, generally, until we then went, until we were level again. And, you know, even as fortuitous as the winner is, it comes from a really nice passage of passing, actually, that is quite quick, is as they turn in on the halfway line, which when we were good last night, I thought him and Anand Kettia did very well actually back to goal, but rather than just passing in their direction, turn around with the ball and running at QPR players, which they didn't seem to enjoy on those occasions. But yeah, I think both of those things can be true. It is a work in progress, I do think that it could look better in the meantime. You know, QPR, a Palace on Song could, that 11 on Song could see that QPR side off 4.5, Neil, but it just never seemed to be any intent or interest in doing that, won't you? You think at one, Neil, Joe, do you think, and Jim, I'll open up to you as well, mate, do you think QPR was so poor in that first 40 minutes that it almost lulled us into a worse tempo? I used the word tempo there. We really were so slow at points, but it's because we were playing against, you know, quite possibly one of the worst oppositions we played for for a good number of seasons. I think the Harley pool game a few years ago, they gave us a better game in the first half and they were turning it down, then QPR did yesterday, but I just felt we were really drawn down to their level, and it was only the Japanese winger on the left-hand side who really seemed to be any degree of threat, and he beat Daniel Munoz a couple of times down the flank, but could we argue and could we defend out a lot by saying caliber of opposition was so far off what they're typically used to? Actually, that could be a negative in terms of the output that we hope to have seen from our team. Yeah, I think it's a fair argument. Firstly, by the way, it's a shame we don't name these episodes because itty-bitty changes, or I'm with Gary, are two fantastic titles. I might just do it anyway. They're so good. Can't be avoided. I don't want to check divert you from what you're about to say, JD, but Jack very well pointed out that the title of the last episode that you named, I thought Will who's did okay, was coincidentally, very accidentally followed by the Salty supplement where he said verbatim, I thought Will who's did okay. So we're all in the same place here. We're all like-minded. The good ship FYP sailing in one direction. Absolutely, absolutely. Now, I think it's a fair point, and I did think the same last night at times that we've sort of been brought down to their level. I guess where that kind of not falls down, but I think it does happen. I think it's fair, and I think it probably does happen to teams at slightly out of confidence, which we are. The Palace needed a big performance there, I think, really. Or maybe not just even that needed a big score line, I think purely to lift them out of this little. I don't even want to call it a lugs. We're only five games into the season, and there's a long way to go, but it does feel like something's not quite right, and that was an opportunity against a very middling championship team to really kick on. Kind of what we thought was going to happen after the Norwich game in the previous round, but I do think that's a fair point. Obviously, away, and when they scored their goal, Rob made a really good point on the post-match pod because of the boxy nature of Loftus Road. Even though it was only 13,000-14,000 fans there, there was a proper noise, that was a proper old-school noise, and it did lift the fans and the players for a bit, and I think that's from Palace suddenly realized, oh, we could potentially be in a banana skin here because actually, this isn't going to be a rollover, but I do think given the gap in ability and the gap in quality, Palace needed to really flex their muscles a bit more than they did. No, your thoughts on QPR, to not turn this into a QPR podcast, but what do you think? I mean, the first thought, we weren't really paying against anyone, we were pretty desperate stuff from them. Yeah, I think you're right to name the Japanese wing Asserto, Sato. He seems to cause the most problems, and I was in the circumstances quite surprised, they were relieved to see him subbed when he was, but yeah, they didn't lay glove on us in the first half, and I think to control a game in possession as much as we did, I didn't see any stats or anything, but it was a game that Palace Bar sort of 15 minutes controlled, and maybe when you're that team and it's so obviously the stark difference, you're quite happy to have it as a training ground tie when you're a bit worried about fitness, some of you are trying to play your way into match practice and stuff, and you don't want to puff yourself out for a Saturday game against Manchester United, particularly when we are playing a lot of the, you know, glass and I went fairly strong again in the cups, which we want, but that does come from consequences at this time of the season, which is probably now I think about it, why most men just don't do it. Palace, we've always cried for the caribou to be taken seriously, but I can see why at this point, the caribou, I will be dowsing myself in a crate of it if we actually get to get to it. In Thailand. But yeah, no, they were really poor, the goal definitely lifted them, and suddenly we got shaky as a result, but after that sort of 10 minutes or whatever, but until we got the goal, that seemed to knock the wind out of their sails. And they have one big chance where I didn't actually appreciate how close it was, where I think their keeper clears it long. It sails over Chris Richard who again didn't have a great game on the turn on Tuesday. And then, I mean, the striker very, very close to bringing it level. And then who knows if we'd have gone out on penalties yesterday, that I would have been infuriated. Obviously, it'd have been annoying to go out. But to be in, if not exciting, but actually, I still felt we were in total control for massive amounts of that game, it would have been our own creation to have thrown that away. And I just, yeah, getting through, I suppose you start just taking whatever positive you can and go, right, let's just write that one off with through and bring on Saturday. Could very easily have had the night the Fulham had last night, which I think is still having actually that position now at 104, 103. Let's just talk about, let's flip it and talk about the defending and the goal now, and then we'll end maybe on something a bit more positive. Because it was, I mean, it was almost all of our own undoing. A come Jack, though, from a very good save from Henderson for the, I mean, superb tip over the bar. And then literally from the resulting corner, he elects to punch when it really, and again, no goalkeeping expert, but it looked like it was a fairly straightforward catch, not under, under much pressure. And that punch seemed to throw the whole defense off, because suddenly they're really struggling to find their whereabouts and clear it, and then Sam Field, I think was the PPOP player who I couldn't name on the post-transport, prodded it home. And that really come from nothing. And I think that's where the frustration comes at the moment with this policy, and that even when we are dominating, we can't seem to see the game out, and then we do something silly like that. And we've got a question from Patrick Stevens. He says, "Do we need to talk about Dean, because a goal of game last three?" And I'm guessing what he means by that is a goal of game where he's at least, at least, partly, if not all culpable. Yeah. Yeah. Well, no, we can't really talk about him anymore, because the options are thin on the ground. So the conversation is still dead for me. You know, as soon as Sam Johnson left the club, Dean Henderson very much becomes the number one. And he's so unfortunate at the timing of that, because you're seeing one of the best saves he makes in a palis shirt so far. As Joe says, probably the first threat they pose at all, and he makes a great save. And when you're away from home and you keep him, makes that type of save, and the whole away end goes up in one. That noise is a great one. That's one of my favorite noises in a way fan when you're keeping makes a great save to keep the home fans quiet. But then to make that mistake that he makes within the next 30, 40 seconds is very, very frustrating, and no one will be more frustrated than Dean Henderson. We've talked previously about he strikes everybody as a and sells his provider at this insight. He likes to be confident in himself. When he's when he's feeling good, he's feeling good. That type of mistake worries me on top of the mistake that I think he made on Saturday. You know, you could have portion blame to about half the team for that first goal on Saturday, but you do want more from your goalkeeping in that situation as far as I'm concerned. And then the mistake yesterday, fortunately, the end result wasn't impacted by that mistake, but in a league match, we're less likely to be able to overcome such mistakes being made. So you hope he learns from it, but no, I think the goalkeeping discussion at Crystal Palace's season is stamped out as far as I'm concerned. I don't consider Matt Turner to be a viable number one for us, and please he's in in the if Dean Henderson was unavailable. We have an at least an experience Premier League goalkeeper. We're not chucking Remy Matthews in for what would be his second Premier League appearance. So another mistake will be noted. And we have to just hope that he he bounces back and and is more consistent as the season progresses. But a great say, a great save. You know, it is a mistake to acknowledge and talk about, but the save was outstanding. He has shown though, Joe, isn't he? I mean, it's not like he's a new keeper to us. He has shown since being here that he does have the ability to pull off great saves and have full 90 minute consistent performances. You know, the man city away sort of jumps out every time that was a super performance. So I guess it's the team, you know, going back to Ben's question, the team is kind of working progress. And I guess it almost feels like the players, some of the players are a little bit now. And as you said earlier, ironing out some of these creases. The worry is in the Premier League, you don't get time to iron out your creases. You have to hit the ground running and already we're a few games in it. It does feel like with this, this is all stuff that was should have been done in pre season pre seasons for ironing and the season is for wearing terrible, terrible energy. But I think it got your point across. So I was asked for it. Yeah, no. Henderson did come back pretty swiftly after the euros as did water, if I remember correctly. So with him, I feel it would be generous to kind of put that on the pre season preparations maybe. Yeah, just really frustrating having done that save, having, I think I might have even said to the person next to me, that's what a £20 million, not £20 million gold. No, that's what a £20 goalkeeper does a minute later. Yes. There was a chance in earshot on the upper tier last night of Super Sam Johnson in gold as that went in. And I hope it was sarcastic, someone taking a piss. Yeah, come on. Yeah, as you say, it's over. He's gone. There's not going to be this like tearful reunion, either. I imagine he's quite happy to be back up in the Midlands. So let it go. So you could see, yeah, he's very hot and sleeved from what I gather with Dean Henderson. When he does make a great save, as he did there, you can see the kind of, he's pumped. He's elation. He'll do a Chelsea away as well. He'll do a fist bump if, you know, pump if he's like the old, he'll do the endowie after if he's in a great save. So, and I like that. I mean, it's endearing. But yeah, if it means on the other side, that a little flap like that suddenly is wobbly again. Hopefully that's not the case. The defense in front of him last night could have prevented him from being very busy at all, really. But I was quite concerned by it, even with very little coming up against them, how jittery and lax they were. I'm always trying to be quite generous. I know it's on this part, especially. I've always got a bone to throw the palletine, the club, and everybody. I do think they were just taking, it was almost just like disrespectful. They weren't taking QPR seriously a lot last night. And it led to some really sort of daft, non-adventurous passing. Yeah. I wouldn't even call it training ground game. It was just, let's not even try that pass. Okay. Oh, all right. Let's try it. And the players aren't even looking anymore. Yeah. Just very unimaginative league-controlled performance last night. That's exactly the vibe I had, Jack, as well, that they hadn't almost felt like a pre-season friendly at times, but they hadn't really come into it fully expecting that they could get knocked out of the cup by QPR. And that actually would have been, it is fine margins. We're through, and the headlines are that Eze, who we're talking about after the break, scored the winner back a loathless road. But actually, if Palis had lost that game, people would be some serious questions, I think, about the start of the season. And rightly so, if we'd lost that last night, as Joe said, and my question earlier, I referred to QPR was so off it for such a large part of that game to have not come away from last night where the win would have been ridiculous. It really would have gone down as one of the most stupid defeats in recent Palis history. So, yeah, ultimately very pleased that we won. But yeah, I mean, there were facets of last night's game, which were just ridiculous. I mean, I think in the earlier episode this week, I talked about one of the things I hated was when something stupid happens twice in very quick session. And on Saturday was Daniel Munoz being caught offside in the same part of the pitch twice in 30 seconds. Last night was Chris Richards playing the same ball twice into midfield, and they're both being picked off. And again, it's a better opposition than Premier League. We're going to probably concede a very good chance, if not a goal in that situation. QPR weren't good enough to really make the most of those situations. But yeah, kind of echoing Joe's point, they were just facets of the game, which didn't seem like a Premier League side last night. And I do think that was the the lethargy that the actual match led lent itself to. I mean, the reference to a preseason friendly, I think is probably right. That first half, QPR's performed so poor, that meant there was no home atmosphere. And Palace's lethargy meant the away end was somewhat lethargic in parts as well. So, yeah, it was very much early pre-season as well, not even your quarantine coming to sell first the weekend before the season starts, the pre-season. It was pretty drab stuff at parts. But we probably should try and be a little bit more positive because, yes, we listen, we know, we did win. We do it. Do you think as a result of how that played out and that performance and the general vibe, do you think it's fair to assess certain players and their potential for Palace and where their future on the pitch may lie for Palace in those circumstances? Because I feel personally, the player in my head, I'm thinking about his Dutch commander who may well end up playing elsewhere in for Palace in terms of the position. I felt that on the pace of the game and the way everyone was doing. He was playing the same level of kind of lack of adventure. Yeah, knock it off. I have five yards, knock it off again. So, he was doing that just as Jovalik Matetto was just as Chris Richards and Ebbs and Jefferson Lermar. So, although Lermar I would say probably was a better performer of those midfielders. And of course, I thought, well, he used it, okay, he came on. But it just works on every occasion. It does, though. It was okay when he did really get on. So, I feel like there was, I was seeing some, maybe of course, online is a terrible measure. I did see some people deciding that that was that on the Dutch commander, Crystal Palace. And I thought, you're not saying that about any other players who've played exactly the same on that pitch. And Max Meyer played like that for two years and people calling him the... I think he might make it. I think he might be the difference, Max. Camarassa, Camarassa played like that for a couple of games. Some people say he's the reason that we're struggling. It is interesting. As an aside, sorry, I've got real potential to keep going off-piste here. I had a look at the... So, Androft Townsend's finally signed for that Turkish team. Oh, this is great. Yeah, go on. Yeah, I had a look at their squad, just to check it be played over the weekend, because he's made his debut. In Central midfield, for Antalya Sport, is Erdall Rackett. Yeah. The Dougie signing that never was, that kind of... No, was there... Was there ever... See, I don't think he's got on the pitch, did he? No, don't think he played for us. No, that was the ultimate Roy January, wasn't it? Do you think Androft recognized him? That's the great question, because they must have crossed paths. They were there at the same time. Yeah, for now. The rumor was that he was signed for training. He wasn't actually signed to play, that he was just signed. So Androft was like, "Oh, you're the guy that put the cones out." Very couple of minutes when I was at Pathist. Good seeing him, well. You can't really well. He probably gasped when he actually saw him on the pitch. No, I thought it wasn't allowed. I thought you were interested. Your guns on there. In answer to Kamala question, I presume Jim, we've got a couple of Kamala questions, because he was... We got nothing. We actually don't, we actually don't. Any Kamala questions, no. Well, I'm with Joe. I mean, let's make up a question. Listen at A, he says that Dashi Kamala had the worst game anyone's ever seen in the Palisher, because that was the opinion of two rather inebriated blokes near me last night, which I thought was incredibly over the top. And I think the attitude people have towards Dashi Kamala so far has been a bit over the top to repeat the phrase. I don't know what people are expecting of Dashi Kamala. I thought he was tidy last night. I thought he... In terms of that position, I don't know how regularly he's played in the two. I thought he did his... I thought defensively, he got caught... He got caught... He got a booking midway through the first half, didn't he? But actually defensively, he made him quite vital interceptions in the penalty area towards the end of the first half. And I actually thought he did look quite robing at that point as well. I thought he was technically very decent. He wasn't playing at any great pace, but the game didn't allow anyone to play any great pace last night. So I think we're seeing a player bind himself and yeah, I'm okay with him. I'm not particularly excited by him yet. I'm not particularly loving him yet, but I'm okay by it. I haven't seen anything that scares the living daylights out of me that he's going to be a monumental waste of money and time. I think he complements this manager's system and can play in a range of positions, but he is not the person who used to wear the number seven for Crystal Palace. Yeah, true. He's not that. And I think that is one of the cool reasons why people are, or a portion of the Palace fan base are currently quite anti-dicy commodity, because I think there is this... But what is the assumption that he's somewhat Michael or Lisa's replaced? Why is this better so? I'm not getting the same treatment. He's literally wearing the numbers. Barely played, because he's barely played. That's probably the reason. Jack, you took my expectations, and perhaps this is where J.D. and I kind of hold our hands up, because I think I said 3-2-1 player of the year and J.D. prediction was player of the year. So yeah, maybe that factors into it a little bit. We thought, "Oh, this is a glass-and-type player, so he's going to come in and hit the ground running and be the best player in the system." It hasn't quite worked out like that, but he has played somewhere different every time. Every time he's come in the playoffs, yeah. I think he looks like a player's lacking confidence, and I think the performance last night, and as Jack said, it was constantly getting the ball player five yards, player safe, player safe. He never played. He wasn't one of the players breaking through the lines. He wasn't one of the players passing forward. He looked like a player that's lacking confidence, so keeping it safe. And if so, that's the shame, because let's hope he can find a bit of confidence, because clearly there is a player there, but I think he's also a slight victim of the fact that Blasner is clearly desperate for him to do well, which is why he's played him in four different positions so far. It's a little bit like the manager's son under 11s who you know is going to play, and imagine he's just got to try and find a way to fit him into the team, because he's going to play each week. And I think as a result, the player loses out, because actually he needs to run in a position. I don't know what his strongest position is. If anyone's watched Frankfurt over the last couple of years, not let Ciosi struggled, tell us where he played and did well, because that might not work in this system. He might be playing a different system that might not work in Premier League football, but I feel like Camada, yes, he's not performed well, but he hasn't really had a proper chance yet to bed in as just what he can do. I agree with everything about Jim, but I'll just add, he hasn't played anywhere near the poor level of performance that some people have accused him of. He's nowhere near as poor as some have suggested he's playing at. Just your point about the manager's son, basically. The atmosphere was as flat at point as well, but you can actually hear instructions from the dugout. And the one person who I noted getting more instruction, direct instruction from Glaznet and the coaching staff and taking notes of it was Dashi Camada. While that does lend itself to that notion that he is the teacher's pet, it also does indicate to me that he's wanting to learn. He's wanting to take all the feedback on, and he wants this move to work. He wants to be a success in the English Premier League. No doubt about it. Does it speak to the run that we've had of signings generally that most of them have hit the ground running when they have finally got onto the pitch? Obviously, you have a francer like that where we're writing it off, maybe, because it took him a while to get that look. But most players, what we've had once they've got onto the pitch in the last three, four years, tend to have been someone we've pretty happy and vital to have almost straight away. The difference between that is, and this is probably maybe a wider conversation for another pod, but nearly all the players have done well. In fact, nearly all the players recently are club signings. They are Dougie Friedman signings. Camada is the first of a manager signing. It's actually not a model that a lot of clubs do. Most clubs now, because managerial stints are so short of football clubs, it's the clubs that buy the players and the manager is told, this is who you're getting and work it into a system. I think that is where there might, if there's going to be any potential clash, it might because this is clearly a manager signing, not a club. But that is a wider conversation for another podcaster of the ins and outs of football. It is Jim, but it does lend itself to other comments. I heard last night, including one from myself about Maxine LaQuar, about he's the manager signing, and maybe he's not the sign in the club would have made. So yes, I agree we should probably pick that up at another point after we've had maybe another three, four games up until the next international break. But both Dashi Camada and Maxine LaQuar are going to suffer, because there is this notion that as highly rated as the coaches, a lot of the fan base have trust in Dougie and his team's ability to pick a player. Anyone else who's contributing towards the signing of a player, I think, is even if it is Glazna himself, is treated with, whoa, whoa, Dougie does that here. But quite rightly, because as Joseph said, the track record is very good for the improvement team. Let's take a quick break. We're going to come back. We've avoided the the eb stop it. Welcome back to the five-year podcast. Question special. We've got quite a question about Iberi Eze. Eze, as it is. I've thought it was Eze for ages, but in that lovely video, he did for QPR fans. And in fact, his whole conduct towards QPR was a fantastic, including staying behind and taking photos. He did say Eze. So that's put that one to bed. I don't know where the Eze thing came from, but there we go. Adam Monk, and in fact, Steven Nash, both have similar questions. The question is, what is the best system for Eze? Not left-sided. So do we play in behind the top two in a 3-4-1-2? Steven Nash says, is the 3-5-2 system still right with the Lease A gone? I'd argue it's not a 3-5-2. And there's a few other questions going on there. Jack, I'll throw that to you, because I would, in response to both questions, it's no offense to either listener. We appreciate your questions then for listening. I'd say it's not a 3-5-2 response to Steven's. And in response to Adam, I'd say he's not really left-sided. He has played narrow, yet he's left the two narrow tens. But it's not like he's encouraged to drift wide. I think he's actually does his most damage when he is more central and able to run out players. I think out wide, Eze is often easier to defend against. But that may be a symptom of who come up against the system they're playing and how they try and manage it. Yeah, and we saw that on Saturday when James Justin managed him quite easily in terms of the threat down the line for Fallback's going to do him for pace, then Eze knows that and he's clever enough to kind of change his game. But that did impact Eze on Saturday. Yeah, I think if you gave Eze the choice of where he was going to play, it would be bang in the middle of the pitch as a number 10 with two defensive midfielders or more defensively minded midfielders doing a lot of the hard yards and Eze gets the ball every time he's in space and does what he does best and scores a hat trick every game and lays it on a plate for anyone who wants it. That's ideally where he would be, but we don't have the system or the personnel to allow him to do that right now. I mean, the point, I think it's the second question there. Steve, was it, I think? Steve and Stephen. Stephen. It was at Stephen who says about, "Is the system right without Eze?" Yeah, I think that's probably a fair or a question to ask right now, where rather than, you know, where's Eze's right position. I do think the formation and the way we're asking Daniel Munoz to still play or what the way we're asking does she come out or is she willing to start to come in and still be, whether or not they're being asked to do the same thing as Michael Eze, they're being asked to be in the same part of the pitch as Michael Eze and therefore as fans and maybe even as teammates, there's an expectation you'll be able to deliver some degree of the same as Michael Eze was. Well, we all know how highly we rate Michael Eze and we don't need to talk about that any further, but yeah, I think it will be a case and much of this first half of the season is probably going to be answered by what breaks first, the coaches desire to stick to the system or the players getting used to the system and being able to kind of provide the output that we were providing at the end of last season. And it's not even required to be at the degree that we were at the end of last season. We just need to be a little bit further along compared to where we are right now. So I'm interested to see whether we'll see any flexibility from the manager, but in answer to Ebbs, the more you can get him into that central number 10 position, the better we're going to be. His best moments that he's had for Palace so far this season, the Chelsea goal last night as another example. I think he's been most influential when he's got players moving either side of him and he's got a bit of space in front of him. That's where I think Ebbs is at his best. I agree. I think, I mean, we all want Ebbs to do well. Such a nice guy, I think. There's rarely been a player there. Everyone's so desperate to do well. But I do think there's a difference between him and Alyssa and it's why Alyssa will go to the very top. I mean, Alyssa will probably win the Champions League this season, which is, which is mad. That's a big cool offs of one game week, Jim, mind me. They did score nine goal. I mean, yeah, they were playing against QPR reserves. There was there was a guy at center half for Dynamos, the grab. And I recognize that name. His name is Faye O'Fill-Kaffrin, who I think played for Cardiff City the year we first came up in the Premier League. I thought, Bloody hell, you can get in the Champions League. I've got OK, right. So yeah, it was different levels. There was some context to that. He's overrated, Michael Alyssa. He's played against Cardiff Tetris. Come back. Alyssa's decision making, I think, is more elite than Alyssa's. I think, as a, as a, and we've seen it last few games, often makes a wrong decision. And that's often influenced by his own performance when it's not going well. Alyssa's decision making, I think, is nearly always the right one. And that's why his output last season was so high in terms of goals and assists. And Adam Monk, Joe, has got a really interesting question. He said, I think Ebbs is suffering from Wolf's syndrome, watching people move on around him, and now he's doing too much to prove a point. He is pretty much the only mercurial talent that we have that, I think we are looking for him to do things. And I think last few games, yeah, he does feel like he's playing a little bit, and I don't know how to prove a point, but almost trying to do it all himself. And there are moments where it works. A Chelsea goal, even last night, it was him spinning and, yes, there were players dragging defenders away, but it was, he was really at the centre of that. But what do you think about Adam's coin? Do you agree about him potentially being Wolf's syndrome? He certainly benefits from having an equally or similarly talented player of that skill set in the team, whether that was Wolf in the Hodgson day's first era, or whether that is Michael last season, for example. Because while he is getting a lot of the ball, I feel like most of his best work tends, for me, tends to be edge of the box and further back from there. Whereas last night was another great example of having the ball in forward areas, but maybe on the edge of the QPR penalty area, and there's two banks of QPR players. There's not much room to play with, so you either tries to get a shot off, which is blocked and granted in the second half, there's a directed one. But in terms of the stuff that he does really well into the shifting past players and leaving players for dust, even at walking pace, tends to be on the turn when there's a bit of space in front of him to run into after. And yeah, just kind of hooting, blocking his own blessings, let's say, I feel like a player that's capable of so much, but is increasingly when he's trying to do more in positions where he's quite limited by what he's able to do, other than to help it along to Tyric, or to just send it back where it came from, which, yeah, as a fan in the stadium, you can be, when you know what's in his locker, you can maybe be a bit harsh and think, come on, do something. I mean, it is something like six goals and four assists in his last 14 games, I think I saw today, that number may be slightly wrong. He is still making enough happen over the course of a game, but there are sort of long gaps, we think, blooming hell, almost, you know, this is a seven, eight out of 10 performance that is so close to being a 10 out of 10 performance, if that there was less of that. And it's really strange. I think he would love to have the kind of relationship with Nketia grow, that will give him that space that will allow him to be a bit more adventurous. Whereas yesterday, I felt that any Nketia more of a free role than ever it is, I thought, particularly in the first half, Nketia was trying to make, everything happened from quite deep, was popping up on the left, popping up on the right. And to be fair to Kamada, for all the things we said about, well, I said sorry, about the Brentford game, I said one of the big issues with Kamada on the right of that free was that Kamada was going right over to the left side, following the ball, trying to combine with ebbs, and leaving Daniel Munoz to be trying to do the whole right side attack, which is totally incongruous with what worked back end of last season. Ed Keshia did the same yesterday. I thought he was nowhere near that right hand side, but he's a goal. So Daniel Munoz was expected once again to be the start of the move on the right hand side, be the overlap and be the second overlap for the cross. It's just complete nonsense and it didn't work as we saw. And we asked why he's starting to look tired. Yeah, exactly. Something there needs to change and I hope will change because it felt so obvious. Ebbs for all the thoughts that I've outlined will still be quite close proximity to a Tyric. So even if it doesn't really work with what Mitchell's trying to do, he's normally the option to receive the ball backwards. Munoz very isolated in long spells in that first half in particular. So yeah, that relates, one of a few relationships in the team, this coming season that has room to grow, but needs to hurry up and get on with it. Hurry up and grow. Definitely. And I think Jack actually, there's a mark sort of difference between those two number 10s. And I think it is looking like it will be in Kettering as the two number 10s behind Mateta, barring loss of form or whatever. And Keshia played like a man and in the last two games, really trying to impress. And I think that's why actually that positional what I'm looking for diligence actually waned a bit and he was all over the place. Whereas there's a looks like playing like a man who's frustrated and knows he can do better. And I think there's a sort of a real difference between those performances. But I'm encouraged by the fact that they are two players in those 10s who can drive forward, which is exactly what we need from those players and can carry the ball. And we've seen in Kettering you do that. And when EBS does do it, and he is able to break through the lines and beat his man, he's untouchable. And you see it in actually, you see it in little moments and he has that little burst and you think, ah, that's what we want. That's the as a that we need. But it's just at the moment too few and far between. Yeah, but you did see that with the winner last night, his ability to kind of cut back inside of the ease of which he does is his masterfuls, very few players in the English football at the moment, they could do that with the ease. Yes, he gets his luck with the deflection. But my word, he's had bad luck in terms of goals up to this point. You know, even as Joseph done the pot in the early in the week, even the Ishmael Asah, goal as it is now has been taken away from him against Norwich after he's beaten 16 players and you know, dance around the corner flag and gone down the tunnel and puts it in the net and is still, you know, deflected off Ishmael Asah's big toe. So he deserves that luck last night. Um, got to be hopeful because I think I said before the season, if we're going to have a good season, Ebene has to have a great one. And I think we just need, give him some time. I do wonder whether the twists that Glaznum might have available to him, it does somewhat depend on Tretik or his availability in time is Eddie and Kettia playing upside up top alongside JP with ebbs in the middle. But then as you've both just kind of articulated, the issue then is the protection for Daniel Moon or down the left hand side, sorry, down the right hand side. And I think Will Hughes could do that job. I think in terms of the characteristics of the midfielders, we have available to us. He's probably checked to Correa. You want in that team, but as we saw on Saturday, check does look like he's a little bit brittle at the moment and might not be as resilient as he was in his first season with us and might need some time to get back to to raw fitness. But we'll see. I'd, I liked in Kettia last night and we haven't even talked about his goal. I thought, you know, that link up that Joe talks about between ebbs and Eddie and Kettia, that was there in that goal. We saw a very quickly for it, taking free kick and sometimes you'll see them roll out of play with other players looking at the set, please take a bit like what you're doing. There's nothing there. But it was clearly kind of something they talked about and keep is going to desperately want more from that situation. He was that 10 times over. But in Kettia, my word, can he strike a ball cleanly and hit it hard? That's certainly something he's got on his locker. So please for him to get his first goal and please to see him actually be hooked with 60 to go because I think we need to be careful with managing his minutes. That's something that I'm very conscious of. Just something in terms of minutes as well. All the negatives about last night, although again, listener, we are reminded that we did actually win. We did win. We did win. Adam Walton gets a full night off and I think we talked early and I did Chuck Chris Richards under the bus, rather, unfortunately, without mentioning anyone else because he was not the only culprit for this. But we have to kind of acknowledge that we did not have our kind of water carrier in chief last night and the player that can move us up the pitch quicker than anyone else available last night. He did quite an intense warm up a half time. So I was actually expecting to see him, quite possibly Ford Dieshi Kamada, who was on that yellow card, but the managers decided to keep him off the pitch and therefore he's got a full week off, which is no bad thing by my estimation. I do think, to Joe's point, the number 10s, we talk about them being narrow and they are narrow in attack. I think actually they are wider in defense and at the moment, they're not doing that. And that's why our wing backs looks so exposed. And again, it goes back to the number seven who hasn't been named, who actually improved that side of his game so much that he was able, I mean, he actually was very, very good at that and really quickly actually learned that side of his game, which is why Munoz did have so much support. And at the moment, that's just not happening. But in Ketis, two games in, let's hope he can learn that side of his game as well because actually, I think the potential for the link up there is actually very exciting. And I think so far what we've seen from in Ketia is very, very promising indeed. So another good doggy. When he who hasn't been named wins his third ballon door, I really hope he does name check Ray Lewington for the diligence that he built into. He'll be up on stage in Zurich in just shorts as a just as a little home. But in a tucked in a jacket. Yeah, it'll be like the old Brian Robson photo shoot with a jacket, palace training shorts with a little nod to Ray Lew. Sorry, just before we move on though, I often bemoan my farewell to my youth on this podcast listener. I'm sorry to indulge myself here. But I have not felt that like to the degree last night when they talked about whatever the term they gave him, but kind of old boy who hands out shirts on the side of the pitch was Andy Simpson. And their head of player development, Andy Impey, who I think still an up and coming bright young thing. Terrible. Yeah, keep your eyes there. They're a club that's a real reminder of a certain time. And I know they've been in the Premier League as recently as 2011, I think, they go down. No, 20 things. It's like them earlier in the week. But they feel like a club in the 90s. In fact, everything about going to that ground, the boxy nature of it, everything just feels classic. And he's sitting on the side like that. Everything feels very 90s about that car. And that's not compact compact. Yeah, it'll be great. Guinness shirts sponsor. Oh, in the 80s. Yes, I did. Anyway, let's move on. Let's talk about Ishmael Asar, Joe, because Stu Lini has said, "When will Saar get a start? Looks lively every time he came on." And that is another good cameo from Ishmael Asar, played two positions, sort of number 10, were on the right, and then up front. Second time he's been put up front by Glaznar. Again, he does look bright. And again, it said it in the last point. It might be a case of that actually that works perfectly as a sub coming on. But you have to say that he's knocking on the door for a first-team star. He's doing everything that's asked of him, and he's looking pretty promising. Yeah, perhaps the inverse of the commander dilemma that we were pondering, which is he's coming on in multiple positions and staking a claim, or at least performing well in each of them, perhaps to the point where he won't be preferred in any of them. He might have played himself into being the utility man in the second half. I think he won't be short of minutes this season. I can see that very much. So at worst, as long as he's fit, we'll be off that bench every game by the looks of it. However, I really enjoy it. If he was to get a start this weekend or pretty soon after, I think it would already be warranted. I think he's really encouraging. I thought last night more so than the sort of attacking wingback hybrid of the Leicester game when we were chasing it, really, really good hold-up play as a centre forward. Perhaps as a contrast to Mateta's performance, which I didn't think was great on Tuesday night, I think he could be forgiven for that for a number of reasons. But it really did highlight the difference when Sar came on and was on his own, keeping the ball for long enough periods to invite the other players to come in on the attack. Fed Munoz a couple of times for some moves that could have come off for something a little bit more positive and some nice work with Ebbs as well. It was a sort of performance of everyone that was on the pitch on Tuesday. He was essentially leading by example with that late performance. I suppose if you are watching from the side of the pitch and you know you're going to come on, I think you think this could be an easy win for me here if I just run, if I just actually play some football like it is an important game. Yeah, I will hope that that's been acknowledged by the manager and the coaches because as much as he's not had a great time at Marseille last season, he probably would like to come here and get into the starting line. I can play a lot. I don't think anyone as much as that might we might have been a nice escape from Marseille. I think he also would be much happier if he was getting more minutes than he is currently. So I would not be mad if they found a way for him to get into the starting line up. It would probably be at the expense of God. I don't think it would be Munoz. I think it would be more likely to be than Katia or Ebbs. So almost better where the Katia going. Thank you, BJP. Yeah, which does lay in front of us the challenge ahead of him, really. But again, even though we don't even seem to have started our season yet, we are heading into an absolute nightmare annual Hellfire, which is the various injuries and hamstring pools that come in November and December. He will get a run of starts no matter what as a result of that, particularly with the summer that some of the players have had. So let's hope it is sooner rather than later, because I think he has a potential to really offer a lot for Palace. And actually, I think this weekend's opponents without getting too complacent at having stuffed them last year, I do think their style of play is going to more likely lend to, whether it's from the start or actually coming off the bench, SARS pace against a team that's a little bit more expansive and playing a little bit higher up the pitch, as well could be well be a real asset to us on Saturday. Yeah, Jack, what are your thoughts on a Spanish SARS cameo three today? I like him. I said on the week, there's an element of chaos to what he brings. He won the penalty by bringing that about. And last night, I thought he did really well. He went through the middle and, yeah, stretched them more than had been stretched. Such a compact pitch. It's actually quite difficult to stretch people even in a fast paced game there. But I thought he did well, I think, as Joe said, he had an opportunity to come on and the basics last night would have won him praise before he came on and did the basics. So therefore, you know, the fans that were there last night and the fans that watched Sean from home are going to talk about his power many minutes, 20 minutes or so, quite positively. And I was pleased for him. I don't know if I expect to see him start a game soon. I think you don't drop ebbs. You don't. Well, I say that. I think the one that might be maybe for their own benefit is JP might be given a week off a start. But that does seem incredibly tough, given the way ended last season, you know, school two goals on Saturday. But I wonder whether, you know, saw through, not sorry, not through the middle, Eddie and Katya through the middle, and sorry, and that kind of right sided position could be something that's looked at, but in which game, I don't know. But as Joe said, I think it's not going to be too long before we start to get those Monday, those Friday press conferences with updates about muscle pools and they're not going to be there this weekend. So he will get minutes and it's good to see that he looks like he's ready to go as and when that opportunity presents itself. I think Mattetta actually would benefit from my rest, to be honest. He was very poor last night. He's playing like someone that has sort of it all on his shoulders. And I think actually maybe a bit of healthy competition might actually bring the best out of him. But we'll see going forward. Here's a question from Stephen Goldring. Hello, Stephen. He says, when will the pain of a Lisa leaving go away? Oh, God. Let's let's flip it, Jack, and use it as a chance to just enjoy a Lisa's continued upward trajectory. The guy literally with every game seems to get better and better. He's now scoring twice in his championship day. But the first player to do that since anyone say this, Wayne Rooney in 2020, 2004. Oh, I saw it. Yeah, it would actually it would have been. Yeah, but I saw on Twitter, it was a teary on me. Oh, that was the first frame. He was the first French. You're right. Sorry. I first Frenchman. But I think if you weren't Rooney, it would have been the last one against Fennabatche in 2004. Yeah. I mean, he's a superstar. I'm waiting. I can't really put any finer point on him than that. The guy is going to be injuries and fitness permitting. He's going to be at the very top of the next decade. He's unbelievably talented, seems to have the temperament to go with it. And it doesn't sort of anything he does. The thing about him and a couple of mates of mine have made this point too. Everything you hear and see about him doesn't surprise you. Yeah. Yeah. He scores two goals in Champions. He's going to be like, yeah, what's new? Yeah. It's Michael or Lisa. What else do you expect? He made his French debut. You know, last and session break was the best player for the first 60 minutes. He was on the pitch. You know, the guy is unbelievably talented and the fact that he played for our club for the three years he did is something I think we're all going to look back on very, very fondly in years to come. So wishing him all the best regret that he doesn't play for our club anymore, miss him every day. The tears are real. No, I think you just have to respect that the guy that's on that trajectory was going to play for our club for a period of time. And the fact that the likes of Mark Gay and Everich Ay, as they are still with us, is testament to the club that they've managed to keep them. But, you know, one was always going to slip through this year. And that one was Michael or Lisa. How do you replace Michael or Lisa? I'm starting to get to the point where I think you don't. Right. And you just have to kind of restart. And I know Salzy, and I agree with Salzy to a point on this. Salzy says there are, there's a world of football out there. There must be someone that could do something similar to him. I agree. In terms of level of talent, there will be players that we could go out and look to nurture over the next few years. But for the specific things that Michael or Lisa offered, I don't know whether we're going to find that guy anytime soon. So, wishing him all the best, he's going to be a superstar. So, good luck. I think, actually, Joe, for the ability that he has and clearly the star quality, he has three years of actually pretty good deal. Longer than actually, I think a lot of players of that quality stay at clubs at a positive level. Absolutely. And, you know, there's a lot of niellies and what ifs and stuff. I feel like we have got some of these players for a lot longer than they were probably promised. And such is the parish magic. And, yeah, well, maybe we were, maybe boy was white. Maybe we are spoiled, you know, maybe we should go there again. Oh, this is just chucking their phone on the phone edge, I think. Yeah. But, yeah, what a player. And, you know, we'll do very well to find more like him. We've done our best so far. But it's, you know, some clubs got their whole history about having players like that. So, yeah, exactly. How the hell did he not stay in high level youth academy? Like, it's insane that his career path, that's going to be one hell of a Wikipedia page by the end of, you know, put 10, 12 years on it from here. But having to go back to Redding Fair Play to the guy, like, he has kept fighting like Eb's did. Yep. And you keep fighting your way through the academy system, fight, fight, fight until you get your chance. And when you get your chance, my word, do you make the most of it? And, yeah, all credits that mentality. I think there's a culture, again, another friend of the podcast, but I think there's a culture of hesitancy in British coaching for those kind of mercurial players that they don't have the other qualities to survive in. British football, the very, very top. When I think, actually, that's been proven to be not to be the case with players like Elisa because the talent is enough. And actually, the other areas of his game is clearly worked on. We've seen that at Palace. So I think there needs to be a slightly more holistic approach to coaching, which is happening. We know it's happening with academies, certainly at Palace. So the players like that don't slip through the net. Well, long may they continue to slip through the net. Well, maybe we continue to pick them up for $8 million, $15 million, and turn them into $7 million. $8 million in hindsight is absolutely bad. This isn't it. Absolutely badness that we got him so cheap. I believe. There we go. Okay. Thanks for your questions. Really appreciate it. Off the break, we're going to preview many nights at home. [Music] Welcome back to the five-year plan podcast. We're previewing Palace vs. Mani and I did five-thirty kickoff on Saturday. Joe, they couldn't have prepared better for the game. Seven-nil victory that had in midweek, I think in the Carabell Cup. They and a three-nil win at Southampton at the weekend before that. Lots of pressure on their manager and their players, but they do look like they have suddenly found a little bit of form, which is very palace for them to do that going into this game. It's not going to be the four-nil of May 2024 again, especially given palaces from going into the game. What are you expecting from this clash on Saturday evening? Yeah, you will see a better Mani side than the one at the back end of last season. Most of that, I think so far, I've not seen a massive amount, but I suppose a lot of that is as much to do with the personnel they've brought in as it is a new way, a new wind of confidence in the manager. Some of the signings have been very impressive, very expensive, as is the Mani United way, but incrementally it does improve them. It's more the second half of the season where it all starts to fall apart and you realise their limitations. I'm probably risking my repeating myself. I do think, though, that this is a caliber aside that I think we would welcome playing this weekend, because just because they're going to want to take the game to us as any team with their aspirations should, and even in this short spell that has been this season already, our best result has come against the side like that in Chelsea, who are in much better form and better condition on the pitch that Manchester United are, I would say, this season and recent months. We managed to get something there, and maybe this team does get a rise out of itself against the Manchester United. You can't fault the effort, I don't think, on Saturday, I'm sure that that will be demonstrated, but I'm not expecting any kind of cruise there, but I am expecting a more exciting contest than the one we saw at Loftus Road, absolutely. Well, let's hope so. Otherwise, we'll be back here on the podcast next week, complaining about the same things. Jack, what are your thoughts on welcoming Maynard Sellers? Yeah, sorry, just the way you asked Joe about introducing them as having just one seven-year-old really reminded me of that clip from that David Beckham documentary where Victoria Beckham is pretending that she's working class, because you did forget to, you admitted that they beat Barnsley last night. I couldn't remember who it was, I couldn't, I don't say Rex, but I know they lost to Bristol City, Bristol, Birmingham City recently. I couldn't remember. Tell him who they beat. Tell him who they beat. But it is that they're clearly in much better places as a core group of players and any United fan would be pleased to see Marcus Rashford scoring two goals, albeit against a third tier team, but yeah, it's going to be a difficult game for Palace, but I agree entirely with Joe that, actually, it's the type of game that I think we probably need. We probably do need someone to come at us. We don't need a repeat of last Saturday against Leicester, where they did come in and were very tight, and then were there to hit us on the break, and you would anticipate United, albeit, maybe somewhat scarred from last year, not last year last season, just four or five months ago. They're going to come out and will want to maintain the form that they showed over the last week or so, but they have only beaten Southampton and they battered Barnsley. So it's not a game that I'm particularly concerned about. It's not certainly not the same echelons as in City or Liverpool come to town. I think there's a game to be had for Palace, and there's a result to be had if we turn up. But as we've talked about throughout this week, and you guys have been talking about on other episodes, he said, it's about whether we turn up or not, and we're all going to be there on Saturday in the hope that we will be. But I'll be just in terms of the United. How many seasons are we unbeaten against them? Is it three seasons going back to the Wilf one day on the last end of the season? Possibly, yeah. So the last season was a double, wasn't it? Wondering if we actually started to develop a pretty good record against some or not? They've become our, they've become what was Liverpool for a time and Chelsea for about 18 months. Yeah, but in every time. One one that was, I mean, at Cellhurst in terms of home games, March 21, that was a draw, Neil, Neil. We have not lost at home to United since July of 2020, so the end of the lockdown season. Four years? Yeah, wow. I'd forgotten there was a Neil, Neil, I think that was a midweek, Neil, Neil, and then there was the Wilf last day of the season, then there was the Michael Lee's hat trick, and then obviously there was May's four-nil thrashing. So it's not bad, is it? I believe the kids call that owning. Wow. There's kids listening to this being like, "Shut up, granddaughter." There's no kids listening to this. My own, my own kids. You know what, kids? Yeah, I'm excited. Five-thirty game. Yeah, why not? Hopefully the sun's shining again like last Saturday, and we'll see. And if we do not get the result we want, then it's podcast we'll talk about next week, I doubt. We're all the same, mister. Indeed. Can I also, as well, wish you better luck to Crystal Palace women who kick off their inaugural WSL season this Sunday, a wet Tottenham, very, very tough game. We have spoken about them briefly on previous episodes. In fact, the last time we spoke about them, Jack, they had let a lot of players go and sign no one, and had no goalkeepers. Since then, they've been incredibly busy. I think it's at nine players permanently four or five players online. Did you see my market? Yeah, absolutely. And some really big names in there as well. There's a whole host of internationals. Josie Greene is a Wales international. They've signed an India page, Riley, experienced New Zealand international, Ashley Virden, who's a Dutch international, Katrina Verger, who's played 142 times for Denmark and another Danish international, Mil Gege. Plus, Katie Stengel was a very experienced American forward as well. Really, really clever signings. You need experience in the WSL, because it's going to be a very tough season indeed. So we'll be keeping tabs on them, won't we? And I think from when we spoke about them last time to now, this is exactly the sort of business that you need going into a first season in the end, in the WSL in the top, in the top flight. So I think they're slightly better set up than the last time we spoke about them, and we're wishing best luck against what's going to be a very difficult game away, but then they're all difficult, I think. It's going to be an incredibly difficult season for the team this year. But we knew that when they got promoted and Rob spoke to this system manager on the day they got promoted and it was indicated that this promotion came almost two, three years before they even thought it was possible. So to have done the business they've done is quite incredible to be honest. The caliber of player they bought to the club, it gives them a chance this year, but I think we have to be very open and honest. The WSL typically sees the promoted club from the championship go straight back down, and then it is very much a case of rebuilding. But the gap between the women's championship and the WSL is monumental, both in a financial sense but also in a kind of caliber talent sense. But these times give them a chance, and there'll be a number of players who came up with the team last year who will be so eager to impress at this level and rightly be playing at this level having earned promotion last season that they've got a chance. They've got more of a chance than I thought they would because they've done such decent business on the look of things. So yeah, I hope they go well on Sunday. And then the first home game only ran the corner. And as you say, Jim, we're going to try and keep up to speed within this year. And any listener who is an avid attendee at the women's matches and wants to give us a shout, then please do. But yeah, very exciting. And we got very excited on this podcast towards end of last season about their role towards the promotion and the fruits of their labor first opening there the season. It's very, very exciting. Hey, Palace's first day of the Premier League campaign in 2013 was Spurs, and that ended with a very surprising survival. So fingers crossed through repeats itself. Very too, because their next game is home to Chelsea on the Friday night, who are, I believe, top yourself, reigning champions and won a lot recently, although they've lost their manager. I actually think Palace's secret weapon will be Laura Kaminsky, their manager, who has done so well. And I think there's a big character in that club. So yeah, best of luck to them. And then Jack, shall we do a quick nod? I know you are keen to do this too. Yes, you do it. Oh, yes. Go on. You've been happy to do it. 40 years at Palace. It's been at Palace as long as I've been alive, which is some doing terry biofield. Congratulations on 40 years at Palace. The man has seen some things. The man has seen a lot of things at Palace. Think about where the club was 40 years ago and where it is now. And the trials and tribulations along that way in that particular 40 year period. So yeah, big shout out to Terry. I know you're listening. I think he probably is listening. So if you are Terry, it's the book we all want to read, mate. So get writing it if you haven't started. Yeah, congratulations 40 years at the club we all love. If you are listening, thank you for everything you've done for the club. And it's to a few more good years. Yeah. And I think Mr. Crystal Palace. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I was going to say, I think maybe this is an open invitation to Terry. If he's coming on and telling us some of his stories and down the years, we'd happily sit in attendance wouldn't we? So if he's allowed to, might have been allowed to. But when the time is right, Terry, as or when the time is right, you feel free. FIP towers, doors are open. He's got clear with the palate head of comms, right? Who would that be? And the head of HR, who is also Mr. T biofield? He's fine. And we're fine. No, top man. It's really, you know, it's rare in football, isn't it? For such long stints these days. So yeah. And he's done every job. He's seen everything. And he's still there. So top man, Terry. Right. That's it for this week. Thank you very much. Lads really appreciate that. Thanks, everyone, for their questions. As ever, the content rolls on the warm up on Friday. So tomorrow morning with Alex and Rob, available to top tier to top tier patrons. His efforts this week. And he's gone. I don't know where he is. We're recording right now when it's the evening. He might well be near it outside Brisbane Road. I mean, who knows where he is, but he's been walking from every London to and from every London ground. I'm just looking at his socials now. He has just finished today's efforts outside Craven Cottage. But it's for the Lily Foundation. And if you text Kevin to 7 0 5 6 0, and that will send a tenor to the Lily Foundation, which is a charity worker that's very close to Kevin's heart. So any listeners who I know have a lot of love for Kevin that wants to support his endeavours, that's the way you could do it. And Jim will chuck it in the show. No, it's no doubt as well. Yeah, definitely. And I should say as well, I did reach out to Kevin recently about coming back on. And I did say about this week, and he said, I might be a bit busy. So when he's recovered, we will get him on to talk about that and to get his thoughts on on Palace, because we have a lot of requests from listeners to get Kevin back on. So we are definitely definitely working on it. And we'll sort the scheduling out for that. But that's it for this week. Thank you very much. And yeah, let's hope Saturday is another memorable game against Monday night. Until then, enjoy your week. See you again soon. Goodbye. This podcast is part of the Sports Social Podcast Network.
