First pod of the new season. One more monster, this hell. 144. Are we safe yet? No. When we're last Kevin, Kevin, are we safe? We got a six-point and I figured it's nourished ones. That's bigger after that. Okay. We are sponsored by a new sponsor for this season. How exciting. JC Innovation and Strategy. The Global Research and Brand Consultancy from South London. With Jay. Visit JC-IS.com with a Jay. Wow, that's going to take some saying, isn't it? Yeah. What an innovation strategy. Correct. They've made a mistake of their first meeting. Strategy wise. They've been our sponsor for two minutes. Is sponsor a podcast? Oh, yeah. Let's wait until podcast three. Yeah. Well, this is the depth of tapestry as we know. What do you think is paying for Jay? Oh, it's not. It's not because we've still got, of course, Vector of the Case, still sponsoring us for the season as well. Holy mother of God. Yeah. So part one's going to be the sponsor part. Vector is, of course, vector printing. For all your print and embroidery needs, should you have any, go to vector dot code at UK. And that's vector with a. OK. There we go. So if you've got print and strategy needs, we've got, we've got covered. We've got covered. Yeah, absolutely. And if you've got a business of any sort, JD will clearly put more than one sponsor on it. That's it. Two is the limit. Two is the limit. But we're welcome. We've not UNICEF back now. Yeah. Yeah, they wasn't. Well, we've got two, we've got two shirts sponsors this year. Or rather one shirts sponsor and we're sponsoring. So it's really good news that the club. The youth kids. The youth kids. Yeah. So it's a very good music charity. That's very good. Because I think people were slightly uneasy about the idea of children advertising online gambling on their shirts. I think they're not allowed to be. They're not allowed to be. But again, that's right. They're allowed to be in Beppin' 7. Absolutely. So that's good. But it's good that they fit to really good charity like that. I believe it's one of Stevie Parrish's favourite charities. Is it? Well, good to you. So if they're allowed to be sponsors, then we're also allowed to be sponsors for our. So we welcome JCIS to the Palace family, FIP family. Yeah. Welcome. Okay. Oh yeah, I haven't introduced you guys. Kevin Day's here. Hello. Andy Street. Bonjour. And Mike Wicks. Hello. It's back on the board. James Endicott is a festival somewhere, I think. I didn't ask him. I didn't ask him. The last big one was a summer. Yes. He is coming back tonight though in time for me to go to a Thai bongo jazz gig with him. Which is not a euphemism. It's actually a Thai bongo jazz gig. Most of his gigs are Thai bongo jazz gigs. I don't know if he's a Thai bongo jazz gig. Well, I don't know. He said, do you want to come along? There'll be some Thai bongo. He's never playing jazz. When? When? Okay. Anyway. So for part one, I thought we would talk about the signings the Palace have made over the summer. We've made it, then. We've made a few. Yeah, we've got Patrick Bamford on loan from Chelsea. Yo, Hank Abai from Newcastle, probably should have started with that one. No, no, if you don't have to let it go, that's fine. What does it, Bamford? Cabai? Yeah, I mean we didn't sign a new car. Alex McCarthy from QPR. Yeah. That's it? So far, yeah. Possibly come on a wick and fee agreed, but he's not come yet, has he? No, he's in London. He came to London last night. Possibly for a Thai bongo jazz gig. Probably. I believe he's coming, yeah. Probably. Okay. Let's start a wick and then every feel about Connor Wickham because we've been linked with a lot of big name strikers and clearly haven't worked out. Now we've got Connor Wickham. It's kind of the sort of archetypal palace signing in some of these, not from the reputed fee, what you'd normally expect a strike of his age from England to be sort of going for. And there's been all sorts of reputed stuff about them. There was the article published by the secret footballer from the Guardian about the lifestyles of various Sunderland players and some of their exploits and all that sort of stuff. And talk about him being at last chance saloon for his crew, which I thought was a little bit. Well, he's saying 22. Well, exactly. That's why I thought it was a little bit hyperbolic and silly. But still, he's clearly coming at sort of a sort of fee that you wouldn't necessarily expect of someone of his age, but he's clearly got ability. You know, he was incredibly highly rated at Ipswich. He's played pretty well for Sunderland at times. He's mobile and big. And I think he could fit them all ready for that little one-up front in the type of system that we play. It's like Joe Samrino gave another one of his bizarre, I love palace interviews last night in which he said goodbye in Wickham, we're a very good business if we can come. I can't see it, to be perfectly honest, the money was spending nearly as much on him as we did on kabai according to reports. For somebody who scored one goal in the Premier League, I find it really odd. I think it's a lot of money for an unproved player. And I know all this talk about Pardew has got a good record remember its strikers, but we bought Banford in and Mourinho has proved in the past, especially if he's falling out with Everton at the moment, if Mourinho lends a Premier League player to a Premier League team, he expects that Premier League player to start. The whole reason Banford has come to us is for Premier League experience, so you'd expect him to start a lot of games. I just think we know we need a striker, but that seems, it smacks me to me, the old-fashioned late in the close season, who's available now, we haven't done the business earlier on. It does sound a bit like Pardew has been knocked back from their bigger target. We've gone after Wickham a few times before and it's early August, it's what, the second of August today, so it's not as if we get into the last drags of the sort of transfer window, which has occurred before when we've gone and bought certain players who shall remain carebait nameless and does on occasion happen to most teams, there's been concerted interest in him from Palace and he is still very young. We did ask a few Sunderland fans on Twitter through FIP and none of them gave particularly glowing reference to anyone if I was from something. The thing is as well, if you want raw, unexplore potential, it's still a lot. I just think it slightly goes against what we were talking about at the end of the last season about the targets that the club said they were expecting to get in. Like Remy was one that made sense, although he's having a shocking game at the moment in the Community Shield, Bamford, I thought, made sense because he's on loan and with Peggy's wages and again, there is definite potential there, but Wickham is somebody who's proved that he can't score at the highest level, which I mean we've got. But is he not there too? We've talked about previous players that come into this Palace mould, are players that got something to prove? Clearly he's got something to prove, he hasn't got a very good striking record. So does that not fit into player design previously? Yeah, I think the less than positive reaction to him, not just in this pod, but online, it's symptomatic of how expectations have risen from this time to 12 months ago. If we'd signed him last summer, albeit he'd come off the back of a great season with the Sunderland, then we've been delighted, and I think we've got him for, well, he's reported at what, 9 million, although that's supposed to include some add-ons, so potentially less. If it doesn't work out, it's 6 million, rather than 15 million that Charlie Austin was quoted at. I think the price is part of the problem, in that if we bought him for 3 million this time last season, I'd probably agree with you, but Charlie Austin can at least prove that he's scored goals in that division, and that's the one thing we all talked about all through the second part of last season and the summer is that's one of the areas that we're desperately short of, and it doesn't strike me that Wickham is the solution to that, not with that money, and especially not after we've got Bamford in as well, it seems that we've got two similar players. I think we're in Andy at your point, he's 20 years old, he's younger than Willf, which I find fascinating because it feels like Wickham's been around for ages, and we're in a position now, fortunately, we can afford to take a gamble almost on a 6 million pound player, and as you say, we've got Bamford, who most people I think assume will start the season, behind him we've got Murray, who proved very, very capable from January onwards, and then we've got, the problem is Murray is 32 this season, 32 at the end of the year, Bamford goes back to Chelsea, if Wickham comes good, then this time next year we've still got a very young player, 23 year old, he's been taken out of an environment where he's clearly not excelled, not just on the pitch, but off the pitch, and there's definitely a great prayer in there somewhere, whether that potential gets fulfilled or not, I think it's very much down to his attitude and his willingness, but also part you in the environment he's going to be, the new environment he's going to come into. Well that's interested in what Street is about, the Secret Footballer, what you just said about the environment in the 13th Congress, because it's quite clear that the rumor in the window seems to be that Sundon wasn't a decent place for a lot of players in terms of the training, the lifestyle, the diet particularly, and it may be the part you think she can turn, because obviously I mean you'd like to think that we have become that professional as a club, that we're not just taking an opponent anymore, that we're not just going as we did with Holloway until it's temporary, let's chuck money at the problem and one of them, let's buy 13 players, one of them would be fine, you'd like to think they've done their homework, it just seems, I think it reflects how few good strikers out there are available within our price range, that's the point, I think that's a massive issue to be honest, to strike such a premium, that it's very difficult then to fit someone who is both affordable and within the Palace model, but it's also half decent, and you can see a lot of seasonal from when we took the punt on Sonayo, which didn't work out because he's terrible, that it's going to mean that you're going to have to take some sort of severe risks on some players, and we did to a certain extent with Shamak when he first came in, we were all going, well you know, massively fell off the pace of Arsenal, had clearly had some problems off the pitch that were affecting his form, very, as I say, rough around the edges and that's probably what you're going to get from the strikers that come to Crystal Palace and this is a massive change in direction of transfer policy, and you can see right now if Wiccan does come in, you're going to have a series of strikers who all have some half decent attributes, but none of them will ever be that marquee, Charlie Austin signed 15 million on 120 grand a week, going to score you 25 goals guaranteed, not saying that Austin would, but you know, you're not going to get that ilk of signing for Crystal Palace at the moment. I think Mike's right, I mean he's young, he is mobile, and obviously they've looked at how they're going to use Cabot here as well, and it's noticeable in the game in South Africa, but on the one with four nil, Bamford came on, and almost his first touch was a sort of 30-yard three ball from Cabot, just landed at his feet, which he didn't quite control, so you'd imagine that's a sort of ball that'd be encouraging Cabot to play to Wiccan, especially remembering the last podcast we did at Steve Brant's house when Keith was saying that Alan is really keen on getting the ball to the forwards as quickly as possible, certainly next season, so you'd imagine that's the scenario they're looking at. But again, you'd still, if I was dual-scale now, I'd be feeling quite upset at the fact that it looks like he's been shipped off to Fulham, because again, you imagine Cabot I mean, it's going off the shoulder of the last defender, would love some of the passes from Cabot, you know, imagine, but it looks like he's not part of the play, and according to the part you're at Fulham, there's a lot of the team and not part of the play, there's a lot of the squad. Really? Yeah, well he was talking about Collegeini coming in, and Collegeini being a beast and an animal, and that's been slightly shorter beasts than animals, but he said we've reached the stage where this squad where a lot of them won't be knocking on the first team door, and we have to move quite a few of them on, and this is that some of spending hasn't finished yet. I know, Joe, I think probably implies that he wants to get Collegeini in. Well, in that case, if I couldn't, if I can break the mould and pose a listener question now, which relates to strikers from Mark Skins, I don't know, is this, presuming we do sign in Wickham, which strikers do you think will depart? I reckon Mike's going to have some creative options, sir, he's always got some creative options. Well, there's any, what, four to choose from, in terms of existing strikers, it's clearly going to be, I saw someone make a good point this morning about, along with Simba Vane, which is, it all depends on the buyer, right? We might want to offload arguably Campbell over a gale, for argument's sake, but if no one wants to buy Fraser Campbell at the wages he's on, and the fee that we like, and we get enough for Dwight Gail, then he's the one he goes. In an ideal world, I think most of us have huge Glen Murray fans, partly because he harks back to the promotion-winning team and to the start of this journey, but also because he's a very, very good player, he's called a lot of goals last season, and beyond the goals he contributes a lot, but again, he might be our most saleable asset, and we certainly can't carry the amount of strikers we would have were we to sign Wickham. I see the value in Fraser Campbell, given how little he cost us, and how hard he works, and I think if you've got four or five strikers, they don't all need to score more than ten goals. You share the load a little bit, but yeah, him and Gail would be the most expendable ones in my opinion. Is it also? If we could get 20 goals in the strikers next season, that would be a start. Collecting, yeah, just from two strikers. There's also a list of a gamble having a collection, four or five OK strikers who can do a job, rather than one big man up front who then gets injured, and then you're actually going to be screwed. That was the Charlie Austin argument as well, and I think it's a valid point. Also, I think they're probably looking for more goals in the midfield as well. I think if goodbye starts every game, which I'm sure we will, they'll be looking for game to score goals, a punch at the score goal. It may reflect the fact as well that Pardu, as he didn't for the most part last season, won't pick the same 11 every week, that it will have a different team and a different set of tactics for, which is why I would like to see Gail. Gail does give you that slightly different option, because Wickham's mobile, but it's not as fast as well. We said last week, we lost in the last season, and now we've got a squad that you can drop and choose depending on who you're playing against, because different games need different kind of... Except, again, in those positions where we all, I think, were virtually guaranteed that we would get another... We all thought that we were sitting there talking about another centre-back at cover and another left-back at cover. Yeah. And we thought they would be the priorities before a creative midfielder and a striker, because I think Kebai is a brilliant buyer, because he adds qualities to the squad. But in an area where we already have a lot of third degree of quality, and it's reached a stage where if we don't bring anyone in before the first game, I really can't predict who the back four is like, I can't predict who the keeper is like, it's a bit of a competition. Well, that's interesting. Yeah, the competition is about four's like, because I was convinced they would get somebody in as centre-back. I mean, Kolochini would probably be the answer to left-back and centre-back, but obviously Scott Dan is guaranteed to start, but who starts along with him is a bit of a... Well, shall we, in part three, shall we talk about Norwich and try and maybe try and predict the line-up? Yeah. No, he's spoken about Kebai, haven't he? Not really. Not really. Well, he wasn't, when we did the last pod in the summer, he... I don't think he was confirmed, doesn't he? I wasn't even... He was supposed to be confirmed. It was fantasy football at the time. Really? Yeah, yeah. With no in there. I think Kevin said there, if Kebai signed for us, he'd run naked down Norbury High Street or something. No, no, not this time. No, because there's no. It wasn't quite fantasy football enough for me to make that rash promise. Well... We were talking about where we would play him, if he, you know, because it was starting to become a room of that. And the goalkeeper, does that mean, Hennessy's going or does that mean... Hennessy played yesterday against Fulham. I don't know. Is it out of this world to have three decent goalkeepers? No. I mean... Not in the Premier League. None of them may be guaranteed a start, but then maybe that's a good thing. You'd have seen one of them all get learned out. Yeah. Because otherwise you've got, well, three, worst case and I, you can, well, you can decide which of the goalkeepers you like the most and which one you've got the least, but surely everyone agrees that our third best goalkeeper is a decent Premier League quality goalkeeper. And that, that player is not going to get on the bench every week. And Hennessy will get picked for Wales while he's on the bench for Palace. Yeah. He won't. If he's, if he's, if he's on loan at, well, maybe if he's on loan at a championship team starting... There was rumours of humour trying to get him at West Brom, but I think apparently he was, he was now going against someone else. A lot of... Well, they signed David Marshall from Cardiff, I believe. Oh, okay. Well, there you go. The rumours of that in the previous... Getting jettled at as long as I... That's not going to happen. Yeah. Is it? Well, you know what? It's come very quiet. I mean, we, I think, again, all the discussions we had in the summer, I think most of us assume jettnet was the most likely of the midfield players to go. And that's what's been most surprising about this transfer window from our point of view, is that all the players we're worried about going have been versed in... Might make a really good point in the drive over here. He was saying... Did he say that you're driving a shit, I think? No, he said my driving was very good. He was very impressed by driving, actually. Right. He said Janik Balassie, being linked with a move, now, yes, he's injured or in quotation mark, injured, but could he possibly be being arrested for a potential move? Is that why he's not dead in presears? Why? I just don't see why we do that, to be honest. It does happen. Teams do do that. I think only if they're desperate for the move to happen on their own part because they need the money or because they know that they're not getting any value from the player or that he needs to be shipped out or whatever. I just... I don't know if you see that. Like pre-season games, people tend to go easy. I can see the rationale in the opinion, but I just... Mid-season. You might have been in one of your minds. No, I just think so. If you're in the middle of a top-premises season where you know in competitive matches you're going to get lumps kicked out of you, you know, you're guaranteed 50 million quid for a player who is worth half of that, then I think that would probably be a bit different to not playing him against a fairly poor Fulham team at the Cottie Chee. You know, it was a fairly non-competitive match I told. And also, if they're quoting 25 million minimums to top them, it's quite clear that they're not in any hurry to sell it. Yeah. Although having said that, ironically, he'd be the one at least upset by it. If we could get that amount of money for him. Yeah. I'd take that as I'm not entirely sure that we haven't seen the best of him as a Palace player anyway to be. Yeah. Well, again, we were talking in the car about how, and it's often discussed amongst Palace fans, that he may well be overrated by the general football population, because his style of play suits itself very well to highlight rules and, you know, little compilation clips. If you think about the games where he was really outstanding last season, you'd think, obviously, Sunderland away was sort of hat-trick, Liverpool away, where he was fantastic. You'd go at home, you had to go and keep that home, Liverpool at home. But then, beyond that, you can think of a lot of games where you're going to be. Where he was completely marked out of the game, the West Brom and Hole home games. Yeah, it's one or two. So I absolutely see the value he brings, even without scoring a huge amount of goals and getting a huge amount of assists. Not that it doesn't get that many, but beyond that, his pace, his power stretches team, forces back force to play slightly deeper, it creates panic and uncertainty and allows us to play, it creates a bit more space in the middle for someone like a Kebai. But I think if someone offered us crazy money, then, you know, I think we're still, you know, the parishes transfer strategy, we're still about trying to sell players at the maximum value and sign players, like a Wicom, who, you know, slightly rough diamonds, where we can increase that, Kebai possibly being the exception. But yeah, I tend to agree with you, Kev. If we had to lose one of our so-called stars for big money, Yannick would be the, yeah, Yannick would probably be the one. You'd also imagine, as well, that punching, if you work on the basis of, for what parches have been saying about MacArthur and for what he's been saying about Kebai, you'd imagine they seem to be his central midfield preference. Now, that leaves the question, does he play a third one in central midfield, but whatever happens, it probably wouldn't be punching if he did. No. So he'd be playing out wide in midfield. That's what makes you wonder whether punching is likely to start out wide in one side, was it hard on the other? Yeah. Because we got a lot of effective in the middle of that. I think if I were behind the strike, behind the strike, it would be, would one up front and, you know, would you have Kebai punching in front of him and we can be in front of that. Maybe it depends on who you're playing against. And in some games you want Kebai a bit further forward in some games, you want him a bit deeper? Yeah. Well, Scott Dan was our player of the year, but the two next best were probably MacArthur and Punchin. Yeah. And Punchin on the strength of a good solid half season of playing in the middle. And you add, on most expense, our record signing to that. And those three probably, well, they, I'll give you the campaign in midfield together, but you just, you'd think that one of Jelaneko Ledley would be there as a slightly less offensive, sturdier presence, and suddenly you've got, you're gonna have to drop one of those three players. Yeah. Well, because I mean, if it's Punchin and Kebai, then it would have to be McCarthy, you would imagine. Yeah. Which slightly wasted. The trouble is that it's a good problem, is that we've now got a squad where we have got eight players to fit into five to four positions. And I ask a question then of keeping the ones that aren't playing every week. But as you said, it might be the part who's not always been a big believer in picking the same 11-week in week out, so, you know. And we know he gives players a chance, but you don't see too much tinkering at the start of the season. It's keeping those players that aren't in the team regularly happy, and also, you know, they're not, they'll play now and then, or when needed, but, you know, they're okay to be on the bench and be part of the squad and not. I think in terms of strikers at Munson, I think if both Bamford and Wiccan, Wiccan comes in and join Bamford, I think Murray would be, that would be, it's wages are not the highest in the club, but I think there are plenty, I think the three promoted teams would probably let's talk a ball with a nori-toffering money for him, I'm sure most of the top half of the championship would, well, I'm not sure, sort of fee we've come on for it now, but it's quite odd, so maybe. Not that much. Okay, let's wrap up part one there, and part two, we've got a lot of questions from our lovely listeners, so do you want to send? Hello listeners, welcome back to the five-year plan podcast, Pod 144, first pod of the new season sponsored by our new sponsors JC Innovation and Strategy, the Global Research and Brand Consultancy from South London, visit JC-IS.com, global, I think, in big then, aren't they? They need to come up with a slide going for us. Well, we need to come up with one for them, we do a podcast, I'm not a marketing person. I don't know, well the vector one just happened organically, so maybe something will happen for JC-IS. Well, yeah, give us enough beer in maybe a little one then. Okay, and we've also still sponsored by vector printing for all your print and embroidery needs, whatever they may be, go to vector.co.uk, and that's vector with her. Brack us out. Okay. Okay, good, okay. Maybe that's new for this year's vector, they're getting extra words for that. What do you reckon to that? I just dropped it in now, what do you reckon? Well, they're paying us more. No, I wouldn't then. Okay. You should turn it up in a Versace seat, but I thought it was essential to that. Right, first question comes from Matthew Freeman. Oh, Matthew. He says, "Which players would you like to see improve the most this season?" Well, I'd see them all improve. Well, I've had two rules. Yeah. No, come on. Which, are there any players that you think we can get a bit more out of? That's what we're saying, players that underperform last season, or players that have potential to... No, a bit of both. Or maybe more potential. Okay, so... Don't interpret it how you will. Stay with me on this one. Oh dear. I've never said that. So we plan a certain way that's quite reliant on wide bend. We've not got that many wide bend, if we think about it. We've got Will from Velasi, who are great and fit in this league. Sully Kaikai. Sully Kaikai. I think Sully Kaikai could basically make me look stupid this season by doing absolutely nothing. No, he could... He could be... He could look quite bright in pre-season. This would be like three seasons ago, and I said that Bayern Fennock was the next big thing. Has he not gone out alone? He has gone on from strength. Two strength. No, Sully Kaikai looks pretty decent. Has he gone on alone? What? Kaikai. Not yet. No, no, he played the other night at Bromley, and has been looking pretty sharp. Hit the bar in San Francisco. Did. Did hit the bar in South Africa, and he fits it, you know, for whatever reason if Spurs come in with the £80 million bid for Balasi, and we go, "Yeah, that's fair enough," and we end up having to sort of put someone in at a wide position. Sully Kaikai seems to fit the bill, so I'm going to back it. The trouble is with that theory, and Mike's already alluded to this as well, is that the expectation of fans is such that if Balasi were to go for a lot of money, they would expect that money to be spent on a more well-known replacement, shall we say, than putting in a youth team player. Well, as five years ago, we would have said, "No, forgive me, that's the one beauty of a manager like Warnock," who sometimes said, "No choice but to try youth team players," and then you'd sort of start by them, but I think if we still don't know who the other centre backs are going to be, if it's delayinging, if we could cut out the odds, because we've talked about this ad infinitum, it looks like he's defending really well, because he's recovering from his own mistakes, but if he could just sort of cut out the two big errors of control that he tends to make every game, maybe those people. Maybe they've kept long three ball things. Well, he's under orders, as a three ball, how is he, that's long to do that? Yeah, he's pretty much an assistant manager. Would it not be better to pass it into a fairly decent midfielder? No, he just signed in, he's told to put the ball into a particular area, so... OK. And this is the manager you can't name? And this is the manager you can't name. And this is the manager you can't name? No, he must be a miffer around your net. Referring to a manager that you can't name. Oh, really? He told a certain centre back that we can't name, that perhaps he would like to just name the ball into that area. Did not know that. OK, that's interesting. It was funny, but... You didn't know you haven't heard it from me, you've heard it from... No. Was I there when you were told it? Yeah, it doesn't make a difference. You could well have been in the same room listening intently, you still would have taken it in, would you? I can't, right. That's not going to stand up in any court or the court. Yes, he was there on the knife in his hand, but he doesn't know what he did. Anyway... It's a good question, it's interesting. Who hasn't known what you like yet, Mike? Yeah. Me. Kelly, I think he's got the defensive version of Wickham. He looks the part, he looks like he should be an elite Premier League centre back. Huge, isn't he? Yeah. He's stocky. And I think, yeah, I think there's a lot of potential in there. As we discussed before, he has gone to a major tournament with England, which is crazy. But I think there's... As a centre back. As a centre back, yeah. There's a very good player in there somewhere. And if we, if he were to fulfil that potential, suddenly that saves us a good 10 or so million on an elite's and a half. Yeah, but the logic there is that he has to start at centre back, which we're not. Yeah, that's true. I think we all thought that was going to happen this season, but... And he did towards the end of the season once or twice, which kind of hinted. Did you look... You looked all right? You looked all right. Liverpool, he did one sort of mistake at the start and then... I thought he was the best at the start. One sort of mistake at the start that led to the goal. Yeah. But then was fine wrestling. Well, he gave away a goal, but then... But you can't... Oh, really the best centre back performance of the last few games was Hangal and Against. It's one of the last bonuses that he was magnificent. Might be him then, if he could get faster. OK. Do you know what? He's one of those players who I just automatically assume would be off the books in the first week. But I know, which is really interesting, so you kind of think that's... He's obviously there for a reason that I don't think he's there as a... Does that suggest that we won't be signing a new centre back then? I don't know. It's a call of cheating thing. I mean, there's so much to talk about, a call of cheating. I think if Pargi reaches a stage where he said on camera yesterday, yes, I'd love to persuade him. McLaren did a very half-hearted call of cheating as a sort of player. We can't afford to lose. Pargi said he was my captain for five years old. I love him, you know, beast animal. Yeah. Which kind of makes you think... I wonder if that's directed at a couple of the other players as well, because he's wanting more. But I wouldn't be at all surprised with call of... But again, call of cheating. You know, we talk about Wickham's 22. Call of cheating is for the... Exactly. To the race, Delaney and Hannah. Absolutely, yeah. And the fact that you can cover it... You missed a fair bit of football last season. I know you can cover left back. But having said that, you can't blame Pargi for wanting players around him. He knows new likes. And in the same way that it's clearly the driving force behind getting Kebai back. Yeah. And again, as a journey said, and the one thing about Kebai, you know, he hasn't played a lot of football in the past. I mean, he was... When he left Newcastle, it was the man you're not going to ask to have wanted him. And it's slightly worrying that now he's leaving PSG. It's not mainly not the last one. But he's been peripheral, I believe, is the phrase we all use in these six circumstances, isn't it? Has it given me some for not getting games? Although, having said that, France still picked him. Yeah. And he's still pretty. Oh, no, I think he's... I'm not complaining. I think it's a brilliant... I do think it's a really good buyer. But again, I also think it's one of those buyers where the club are going. Look how much progress we've made. Here's a marquee signing for you that we wouldn't have expected. It doesn't worry about where we're going to play. We'll think about that later on. So, my improved, most improved players... Who are you? Well, you always know in the last season that I never get involved in this thing. That's true. So, I'm going to start playing... I'm excited. I would say I'm most excited by Chung Yeong Lee, intentionally, and Swari at left back. That wasn't the question. No, but that's how I'm deciding to interpret. Well, who's most excited about Swari? No, no, Chung Yeong Lee. That was nowhere near the question. So, the question was basically looking forward. The end of next season, who will be the most improved player. And you've got who excites me in the base now. Okay. Because he's going to improve. That's what Jim's going to say. Because I think I think Chung Yeong Lee is going to improve if he plays that. It could be excites me, but I don't think he's going to improve beyond what he is now. That's not what I'm saying. That's not what I'm saying. Where's Lee going to play? What is the question we had? Well, out wide, I guess. But I don't know if he's going to start. But I think he's got real potential. He looks really good. Works hard, he's quick. Good at the point of the thing. So, now, I'll answer the actual question. Who do you think is going to be the most improved player this season? Who do I think? So, not who would I like to, basically. Who do I think will be the best? Yeah. You know, the question was who needs to improve? Or who needs to improve? Will it improve? Who do you want to see? What is that, the question? Okay. Who needs to improve? I'm also very reminded at this very moment that Palace players are in a dressing room somewhere there. Who needs to improve most on the podcast? Yeah. It's been a show of hands and it's pretty much you. Really? Not Endicot. I was really worried there for a second. So, one of them said... Unbelievable. Who excites you the most in the podcast? Yes. They said me. No. Well, clearly, the hell went with me a punching shot. You've got the question wrong. Yeah. Answer the question, punch. No. He's got really upset because he's really touchy. Well, I'm going to go with Kelly then as well. Okay. Yes. That's pretty original, isn't it? Well, no. The other players don't need to improve. That's clearly what it's saying. I'm really confused by the question. Right. It's not a question, but it's also a very difficult question because it does imply that the players haven't played to their full potential or something. Which I think a lot of them have. So, I think it is difficult question because I think they're all performed. We want a difficult question. We want to step up this season. Yeah. Will then. Will. Will. That's what he said to me in the car. Wouldn't you say that? Yeah. Well, there wasn't a question in the car, was it? Okay. Question has thrown me. What was the question? Who would you most like to go out with your daughter? I haven't got a daughter about it. Question has thrown me. You've done a hundred and forty-two part of class. You've not got used to the concept of a question. We're moving on to next question. Actually, I think it's a fair point. Otherwise, I think people listening to this, most of them will be saying, "Wolf". Well, "Wolf", again, if my interpretation in terms of excitement, I'm excited by "Wolf" this season. I'm the only mother of God. I think most people are listening to it. And now we're going, "Why do I do this?" Why do I think it? Well, he's laughing as well. Street, he is. You're the lawyer. You're the one who's supposed to twist words around. It's a weekend. What's wrong? It's a similar, it's not twisting words. It's similar. Oh, it's similar. Of course it is. God. Avoiding words. Fine, next question. Fine, next question. From Tony King. Hey, Tony. Hi, Tony. And it's something that you alluded to a minute ago, Kevin. He's put, "Does the typical palace fan inside of you get slightly nervous about the level of expectation this season? I'm swinging between excitement and fear that the wheels will come off at any moment." Yes. He's got a typical palace fan inside. No, it's not. It's not good at Bristol's route this early. I think there's a really interesting thing that way. The sponsors of West Ham. In everyone, again, it's bookies who come up with really interesting scenarios. It's part of the second season. It's slightly worrying that every club has been out. Albeit, this is a different set of circumstances. But I think we are. I still think, for me, we're still in a situation where, and I'm not saying it's just to be like Eeyore, but we should be looking to stay in the division. We should be looking to stay above three teams. And anything else after that is a bone. I'm expecting anything else after that. But I still think we're in a situation. I think it's next season and perhaps beyond that you can do what Stoke fans are doing. I mean, Stoke fans are where every right to think they won't be involved in them. But I think it's still new to us. We're still in a situation where also previous experience tells us that anything that can happen to make a club go tits up can happen to Palace. Yeah, my expectation is I hope we start. I'm not guaranteed. I'm not banking that we do. Again, as we said, we haven't got goals in the team at the moment. We haven't made massive changes in defence. We're short and part of you could be the next England manager. You don't know. We could be brought out by a huge Asian conglomerate. You never know what Palace is. There's no point predicting stuff. You just hope it doesn't. We meet your attack. That could happen. That would affect everyone equally. No, no. They won't talk itself. You say that. You know, for a fact, if it were an open invasion, it would have been sell us part while we were falling up and in the UK would decide that that result would be void. You'd know that. So, we went down when we were fourth and bottom. We went down with a record amount of points. This is taking the pan space. This is taking the pan space. Culture, a step. No, I don't expect that to happen. But I'm saying this. I don't think we should be excited. I don't think we should be expecting, because we had such a good second part to last season, I'm slightly confused by all the pundits who were automatically saying we will finish above that position. Because I'm not necessarily sure we will. And the fact is that we finished 14 for 15. That would still be a good... Yeah, yeah. Well, there aren't many teams who were in the bottom three in January who then wouldn't go into the next season slightly fearful. Absolutely. Being near the bottom three. Yeah. And isn't that the point as well? This is something that's been brought up in a lot of analysis as well. That Pargy tends to win runs of games and then lose runs of games. In the Premier League, if you lose eight games in a row a bad time of the season, you can end up straight back down the mire. I don't know, that sounds like a massive truism. But it's not that difficult to fall down into a relegation scrap if you're not, you know, of that really elite band of clubs. It does happen. You know, it happens to Pargy's new cards on the season after they finished it. Fifth. Fifth. You'd imagine our ceiling is eighth, seventh at a push if everything went really, really well. Maybe two seasons time. Yeah, eventually. Yeah, eventually. If everything went really, everything aligned for us this season. And we signed a couple of good players, not a really good run. Our ceiling, what, seventh or eighth? Which is only three positions higher than where we finished. So let's talk of moving on and improving on last season. There's only a little margin to improve into. And a huge margin to digress. There is one massive room for improvement. That's our start of the season, which has been very poor in the first two seasons in Premier League. We got a tough run as well. We have, but we don't want to end up on the back foot again. We don't want to end up six points behind. It wasn't winnable games the first time. Yeah, I mean, that's why the Norwich game I generally think is important. Norwich is a really good benchmark, I think, because they'll be expecting, it's a great day out. But Norwich fans will be sitting there, probably thinking Palace and the sort of team we have to beat at Cara Road. If you want to stay up. Norwich fans will be saying they're not as good as they think they are, blah, blah, blah. And I think the way we approach that game and the way what we can't allow to happen is we approach it like an established Premier League team playing against some minnows. Because the energy, Norwich are going to come at us for 20 minutes and we have to be better. But in the final analysis, we have to finish above Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford. And the fact is, if we don't finish above those teams, we won't deserve to stay in the Premier League. I'm fully confident that we will. But it's a really good game. Well, there are some other teams that, you know, you crapped about the relegation line in our season, you aren't great, like Leicester. Yeah, yeah. I feel like we're going to scramble. Well, Villa have been perennially down there for the seasons now, it seems. And also, Villa have just bought, what, six players from the French? Who aren't in the first team from the French, in the French Premier League? Yeah, but all from the French. Sorry, Premier, Villa have just bought six players from the French Premier League, whatever it is. Leicester, running area has been out of the game for so long that it's hard to imagine that he's going to make a massive impact. So there are teams that we should finish above. I mean, what's going on at Leicester? It seems like a palace esque snore. I loved it without wishing to say the most archetype, the FYP podcast thing ever. I loved the Guardians preview of the Leicester season. They said after their end of the season, they would have to take something particularly despicable and outrageous and outstanding for anything to go wrong. And then something despicable and outrageous and outstanding happened. They seem to have lurched from sort of one crisis to the next. So they're going to be down there. Yeah, and the fact is, as well, I'm not too wide of it. I think we are probably better equipped to get results out of the top. And that's something else we need to do, is we started to do it last season with the Man City win. But we need to get more points off the top four or five teams. But I think we're better equipped to do that this season. I'm not expecting us to struggle, but also I think it's wrong if Palace fans are going into the season, expecting it to be a lot of it. I don't think as many fans do that though. I think most fans will probably be looking at the bigger picture. What happens if Pardee Resigns on Thursday? I just, I can't see it happening. Well, I feel like this podcast will probably date quite quickly, which would be a bit annoying. I'd love to do an emergency work. But this time of season, we love to do an emergency work. It's weird to think at this time of our season, we were going into a season we just finished 11th with crazy high expectations. And then Pudis walked out. Well, yeah, but I think the difference is that we all knew that Pudis was a colossal bellent and proved himself to be a colossal bellent. Whereas we know that Pardee is a colossal palace bellent. Yeah. And he might want to demonstrate Bellentry elsewhere, but I think he's happy to demonstrate it at Palace. So I just think. But I think Pardee, again, I'm still convinced by my own argument that Pardee wants his England job. But I think this is one of his last chances to get it. I think Pardee would be very determined. He's still a manager that gets a lot of criticism from some quarters. And I think I do genuinely think he's probably the best manager we've had for quite some time. And I'd like to think that he would be aware of all the things that we're worried about. I'm sure he's great for them. I looked up the odds on nexting the manager the other day because that thought crept into my mind. Favorite is Gary Neville. And Pardee's fifth. I think Mourinho's ahead of him, which I can kind of understand from a bookies point of view. Southgate's ahead of him as well with the bookies. I think the best scenario for Pardee was if Roy Hodgson goes short notice for whatever reason and then they need somebody for a year before Neville's clearly being groomed. Yeah. To be the England manager. Oh, sorry for using that word in its proper sense. Right. That's the way your little lawyer eyes open that movie. A lot of my gosh. Okay, next question. Next question is from Chris Kay. Hi, Chris Kay. Hi, Chris. He says, "What was the worst thing the panel did or were forced to do during the close season instead of going to a match?" I got married two weeks ago. Oh, congratulations. Sorry, what was the question? That's very good. Which game did you miss? Union Berlin. Oh, part time. But I watched the stream. That's congratulations. Where did you get married? In... I've forgotten already. In Somerset, from the nice one. Lovely, yeah. Special event. Sponsored by D-I-V-O-R-C-E. What are you boys? Ah, the summers are long bleak times. Oh, it's not again. The worst thing that was forced to do over the summer. Probably going to be the Thai bongay jazz band. I'm going to see tonight. James Endigott with people striking a bit and so forth. Lamb of Country show is a bit rubbish. I went to that. So, I went to it, yeah. And I thought it's a country show. It's in the middle of the park. There's no way that this can not be an alcohol fest with all sorts of local brewers. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Root vegetables. That was what it was. Root vegetables in counts. They got side of it? Yeah, no. I didn't find any side of it. Anyway, you're drunking off at the Palace Beer Festival to see you through the summer. That's a fair point. I think my summer went live all the way, swims you at home, stag do wedding, stag do wedding. Not all my weddings. Stag do wedding. My wedding. Then a weekend of rest, full of my way. No, it's your way. So, it's been quite a nice little compartmentalised quite well. Yeah, I went to a 2020 cricket game and two funerals. Oh, I enjoyed the funerals. Well, it was very good. Oh, my gosh. It doesn't like cricket. The only thing about the 2020 games is over cricket. Over cricket, over cricket. Let's get off. OK. It really is. No, I don't want to test-stay the wake for one of these holidays. I mean, it's a pointless waste of it. I don't really get cricket. It kind of, it seems to go on even the 2020... I think what you do is you're supposed to throw the pool down the outside. What are you supposed to do then over? I've already done what I've already done. Oh, the worst thing I was supposed to do was see his Edinburgh Preview Show. Ooh. You enjoyed my night, isn't it? Pluck, pluck, link, pluck, link. No, well, you didn't like it. You did a really good job on the fan. You did a really good job on the fan. You're not going to plug your own show because someone said they didn't like it. No. It's fine. Ooh, he loved mine so happily. Well, you can't possibly... If you're in Edinburgh, go and see it on either Kevin Day or James Daly's Show. There is a link on the F.A.P.E. website. Well, both. There's not a call on the F.A.P.E. website that links to both. Right. Next question. From Freddy Spencer. Hello, Freddy. Who will be our top goal scorer next season? Oh, well. That's a good question. You can't awake him. Glenn Murray. I'll go to Banford then. You've got Fraser Campbell, sorry. I'm going to go... Dwight Gail. How many... What did Banford get in the championship last year? 17. 17. But he didn't play the whole season. He's never played the Premier League game. I know he hasn't. And he looked... He had a bad game in the playoff finals, isn't he? Well, I mean, a middle screen. Yeah, it did. But I mean, everyone raved about him. I mean, I was genuinely... It's hard that thing because we've discussed our disapproval of the loan system in the past. And especially with West End, we had a three-player for master in Jenkins. We've kind of benefited from that. If it was a bit odd that you could just be given another player by a Premier League side. Yeah, it does seem weird. It's clearly a good player. It's clearly a good player. It's got the same... He kind of fulfills the same remit as kind of Wickham does in a way. Young... They don't fit mobile. But they... I haven't seen enough of either of them to know whether they're similar players a lot. They sound like similar players. Yeah. Well, to him and speak, I know that's not what you meant. They sound like a complete different player. Banford is quite posh isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. It's kind of your eyes and you think it's... Someone's making bridge or something. Yeah. Someone posted a link to one of his Instagram photos. Yeah. Someone posted a link to one of his Instagram pictures. And have you gone on his Instagram? He gets a Harvard, didn't they? He rejected Harvard. I did it. He's that posh that you rejected Harvard. But he's like something I made with Chelsea. The place he hangs out with, the place he hangs out and the people he hangs around with. Well, I don't like him. Anyway, irrelevant. Someone did tweet us out actually and I've lost the question. Said who is Banford our posh is to ever play? Oh. Well done. I wasn't in like the 1920s when I had like some gentleman player at that point. I can't remember. Oh. Gareth Southgate said it was posh. Yeah. Now we're just getting into class theory types now. My audience sense is tingling. I feel like... We posh compared to other footballers. Yeah. I mean, Banford did reject Harvard. So that's quite, you know, highbrow. It's not going to be the five posh. I mean, in Dowie, very well educated university, rocket scientists, but very much not posh. And can't count properly when you win. It's 4-0 and put three fingers off. Yeah. Or vice versa. We invented a whole new word though. Well, yeah, there you go. He did, yeah. Okay. What were we talking about? Talk both of them. Yeah. He went fresh camp. Well, he went fresh camp. I'm going to draw a girl. I'm going to draw a girl. If he stays, I think he'll still count off the bench and score. Oh, no. His record's very good. I'll be by Messi. I'll go and miss him. If we're working on... Well, Gail currently is a palace player. But could he do it in a cold Tuesday night? I can't stake. You know. You know, Beijing can. Well, you know, Messi, I think Messi probably could do it in a... Well, what about a bit left field for someone like you? Well, it's a joke. I mean, it's a joke. Look at the difference. You just talk about that Puleis was still state manager for three seasons. He's going to play as he bought in. All of them are big folk and the players are stoked by bringing it in. So, if we're going to make predictions for this season, surely a good prediction is that Puleis will have left West Brom. Well, they don't mind this go. But we'll also turn up at Leicester after Ranieri gets sacked by the end of November. They go, "Oh, shit, we need something to do to help each other." Well, didn't that Leicester thing just seem made on for either Puleis or Aladias? Obviously, mate. Aladias, yes, right. But it just seems again that, you know, owners of Premier League clubs are just enthralled to the so-called glamour of certain managers. But his record, he's not got a good record, Ranieri. He hasn't won anything since, like, 1999. It's lost. It's not where he was going. He was there for Grand Ambitions. Well, they've won the wedding in the Cup since then. I think that they went in '90s. That year, possibly. Yeah, yeah. But if you work on the basis of what they have to do this season is stay in a Premier League. They just act the one manager that will ideally keep... They could do that. Exactly. They'll arguably guarantee them the same as Aladias. You bring Aladias to Leicester. You think there's almost guaranteed to keep them. I think that's a recipe for disaster there as well. Because even though he's an idiot and a bit of a lunatic, not your person clearly had the respect to the players. Otherwise, they wouldn't have kept going like they did. They wouldn't have had their run in. They're unbelievably so, right? Yeah. I mean, like, you know, most managers, if they have the sort of run that he had during the middle of that season, they lose the dressing room completely. Yeah. Well, hold away, exactly. And Ranieri was fancy being the type of figure anymore that would come on. The respect to that dressing room, I think. It's a recipe made for, you know, disaster or anything. Pewdie's will be there come December. Okay. You heard it here first? Leicester hierarchy seems a lot to get rid of Pearson right from the start. They just, because again, it didn't fit their glamorous selling shirts since Selfie's day shooting. I think Ranieri does anyway. No money. That's great. He does to a cap to a market that doesn't know much about it. If you say we've got the manager who used to manage Chelsea and used to manage Greece, you don't need to necessarily look up the fact that. Yeah, true. He didn't win anything within the Faroe Islands and they lost. Right, next question from John Dodds. Hi, John. He says, "Which two palace players should I put in my fantasy team?" Oh, he's put into what the fantasy is. Someone's asking him. Yeah. That's really inappropriate. Is it? Yeah. I've been following my fantasy team. Fantasy football. So in the official one, last season, Balassi scored a surprising number of points because I think it goes on man of the match stuff. Did he get bonus points? Pat Punchin created more, I think I can't have this stat last season. He created more goal-scoring opportunities than any other English player last season. What's an assistant? Remind me how do you do that? An assistant is when they actually score when you pass them just before they score. No. Or you get fouled for a penalty. Or I think if you shoot and the keeper saves it, then someone... So who's the most specific player? Oh, fine. Who's the most specific player? Shoot and the keeper saves it. No, and then they get the rebound. All right. Who's the most expensive player in the practice football room? Probably. Probably. I should probably. I would have thought. Oh, now, of course, yeah. It's really hard to call, isn't it? I would go... Well, you're looking for players on this side every game. Yeah. So that's how I've built my team here. Swarry, you might... I see us conceding more goals than in previous seasons. I think we'll score more, but I think we'll concede more as well. Yeah, we only get two clean sheets on the part, do you? Yeah. I think that trend will continue. Yeah. So I want to go defensive. Go for an attacker. No, it's bad. I think Wilf is going to have a big season, so potentially a Wilf. If he can get more of an emperor. Oh, you've ruined it now, haven't you? He's not going to score goals. He's not going to score goals. He's not going to score goals. That was impossible. We're winning. We scored a few last season. Can't score. Is that a few? Can we be in that with Mike? Wilf. Four. Five. There we go. That's not terrible. That's not a top score loss, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah, Murray. Murray. And Gail, but Gail, what, three in the... In one game? In Carlin Cup. In Carlin Cup? In Carlin Cup? In Carlin Cup? In Carlin Cup? In Carlin Cup? In Carlin Cup? In Carlin Cup. The Bamford, maybe? Milk Cup? I would go punchin' in Balassie. Yeah, I'd go punchin' in the car for him. Okay. Good question there. John Dodds. Thank you. Good question. Oh, no. I'm going to say he expects us to be scoring... Consuming more goals. Put a goalkeeper in it. Makes no sense at all. No, sir. No, sir. We might have to save more to... Okay, Gareth Jones. We'll go there. Hi, Gareth. Hi, Gareth. Says a similar to before, but slightly different. Who will score our first goal of the season? Oh, I know this. I have a dream. We're going to beat Norwich 3-0. Oh, okay. And... We're going to be one and a half time, because if so, we've had the same dream. Yes, we are. Oh, wow. It's going to be... Oh, no. And there's Kate Bush from the score, the third goal. I had Loic Remi score in the first goal, so I wasn't going to have... I had a dream score in the second goal. Oh, no. So I know he's going to score a second and third. The second will be Cabay from a free kick, and Balassie. Well, he might be injured now, so... I don't know. Cabay, Cabay. Sorry. I did have a dream. I'm literally going to bet on that now. I had a dream where we were under pressure for the first 20 minutes, and we played really well. Cabay scored just for a half time, and in the second half we strolled it, and... Remi got one, and then... I think somebody came off the bench. Somebody unlikely. Chum yum lee. Most improve player. Most improve player. PJ Harvey. PJ Harvey, that was it. Kate Bush. I think that sounds plausible. I think that sounds good. I think that sounds good. If we get any... Bamford one. Any sort of result. Balassie three. I think Cabay... I think Cabay will get our first goal. We're free kick. Yeah, be free kick. Well, is Cabay gonna take over free kick duty from punching and all it'd be... Well, then one's left, and one's left, is it? Yeah. I think Cabay will. Yeah. Definitely. Straight. Sorry, I'm too busy trying to put a bet on three now, because it's been in two people's dreams. First goal for Palace is going to be a Nathan Redman and goal. For God's sake. Right. Good question that. Good question that. That was a good question. Mark Skeens again. It's got another question. This is our left field question for the pop. We've been told to tone down the left field question, so I'm doing one today. What's your favorite vector told you to do? We did a survey throughout the summer, and a lot of people said, "Please stop doing a few questions." But I'm doing one food question. No, I don't know what's that one. It says, "Mark Skeens says, 'Burgers in brioche buns. Surely they want a healthy enough or anything?" Don't stop me on that. Shortest. I went to a barbecue. It's going to be a very short story. I was just waiting on the afterwards question. You might tell a barbecue with brioche buns a day. I thought they were lamb burgers. He lives in North London. If they were going to go above the river. If they were lamb burgers. So I was told, the burger has a higher fat content than usual, and the brioche buns really sweet. So it'll offset it. Blah, blah, blah. I ate it. I felt sick immediately. A brioche bun has got more sugar than sugar. Sorry I just pointed that out. The same as the McDonald's. Brioche buns are just worse. It's just so sad too much for that. Yeah. Shocking idea. So I enjoyed barbecue season. I've actually never had one in a brioche bun. Do the question. Do the name bridge. And you're a vegetarian. It's because you've got your idea of eating bridge wrong. There's no brioche buns needing bridge bun. I've never had it. It's just the name part everywhere. It's too sweet. It's just not right. It's just one of those things. It sounds wrong. So I was putting cocktails in jam jars that they do in places like Jesus Christ and all these people. Please, can we say that's the last food question of the season? No, I quite like the food. It's the last one of this book. We're going to come down. We've got one now and then's all right. Enders loves the food question. We'll see that. It's almost like eating food. It's like a menu. He gets new ideas for him. He's putting butter on bread now because of that question from last year. Okay. What question? Well, I'll never forget it. That's fine. Are you sure he's a professional standard comedian? The question is... Does he show a mistake? He just grabs the wrong end of it. He's just astonishing. Definitely not professional. First question. Next question comes from Peter Hostachny. Hi, Peter. Hi, Peter. Hi, Peter. He says... I'm sorry for the pronunciation. Someone else has pronounced it right. H-O-S-T-A-C-N-Y. Hostachny? Yeah, we'll go with that. Okay. He's got a question about someone we haven't mentioned, I don't think. Marilyn Shammack. Great footballer. Didn't play in pre-season due to injuries. His current position at the club. Question, Mark? Well... both Keith Millen and Pardee talked about him at the play of the season in glowing terms. And Keith Millen in particular was indicating that if Shammack could stay fit, well, they were worried about the source of his hamstring injury because it's the third time. And they were thinking that it maybe comes from a different part of the body now, or maybe a trap nerve somewhere else. But he was certainly indicating that, as Mark Bright, was that Pardee really, really rates him and he would certainly be part of the... talking about him being the player behind the striker in front of the... so I think if he's fit, he's very much... he's certainly part of Pardee's plans, I'd say. I mean, again, my only problem with Shammack is we've talked about it before, which is a very good player, but it isn't scoring enough goals. And we've got plenty of them. Well, they... I don't think we've seen the best of him because he just doesn't get... I don't think he's probably played more than four or five games on the spin before being out. Yeah, I don't know. The thought of punching Shammack and Kebai playing together... it's quite exciting. Three proper technical... with a striker in front of it. Well, yeah, with a striking front, I guess that wouldn't work. To get fancy pants, isn't it? Yeah, that's... Yeah, against him. Yeah, I mean, I think he is part of the... I think he's very much part of the plans to answer the question, but the injury worry is clearly that hamstring... it's consistent, they need to find it out. But he's clearly a class player. Yeah, when fit, you've got to find a way to fit him somehow, but... it's increasingly difficult to figure out, as you say, a good problem to have. I would... there's interest. I mean, class player, but I wonder what, in terms of... as we've talked about, fantasy football, in terms of business, and whatever, how much... actually came from him. But, you see, one of those guys that doesn't necessarily... contribute those, sort of, headline things, and makes that... like, links up, play... Yeah, it does. You never get fantasy lead points for him, but... because he's not gonna score goals on this, so he'd contribute a huge amount of assists, but... he makes that play in the final third, a lot more fluid and... Well, not intelligently. Not only is that probably one of the most intelligent footballers I've seen at Palace. As in the away game at Liverpool, he gets in front of the back four. He really interrupts the... you know, you can't play the ball out from the back four to the midfield. He took Gerard out again, because he simply worked so hard in between... Liverpool's midfield and the back four, so that's a sort of thing. Oh, he's clapping. I've heard noises that he's not the best trainer at the club, but yet... Well, those noises from me earlier when I told you that. Yeah. I've heard that was the case in the past. Well, I heard because my Sunday team did pre... proper preseason training with a former Palace coach who worked for the first team last season. And I was like, when I found out you worked for Palace, I was like quizzing him. And I was like, "Well, who's basically like me? Who's the worst trainer?" And he was like, "Well, Shimak doesn't like anything that doesn't involve actual football." I just want to put Mark down. You will never be a spy. Terrible. But yet, he's one of the hardest workers on the pitch. On the pitch, it's clearly his fitness. Yeah. Who did that coach think should be the most improved? Well, the plan excited him the most was... Didn't ask him. But again, when it comes back to goals, it comes back to... What, in Beckman, where they're using that training? Just take away. We haven't got time for that. Okay. One more question. One more question for this pod from Gareth Richards, who is from California. Hey! He says, "What are you lot, aka the panel, excited about most of the upcoming series?" The player thinks he can improve the most. Drop it. Let it go. That's very good. I'm excited to have a bit of red and blue back at the ground. Rather than it looking like Cara Road. It's hard to say. It's a different approach this season than even last season. Last season, we still had that. Were we lucky to be in this division or not? Still felt a little bit like plucky outsiders and that sort of season mentality type thing. Especially with what happens with Pulis. Yeah. It feels slightly more sedate this year. I'm excited about all the talk about moving the ball forward quicker. Maybe again, just attacking our start position. Been a few yards for everyone since I've actually seen more goals and more stuff. I'm just in general excited that we're still in the Premier League and that we can see players like Schreinsteve coming to Tilla's Park. Or a player like Kebai playing. I don't know. That's pretty cool, isn't it? I don't think until I actually see him playing for Pulis. I'm not entirely sure. He's going to trip over a marble or something. I saw him yesterday. It was surreal. He got injured within ten minutes and he thought, "Oh God." Ray Wilkins. The funny thing yesterday was he played very, very simple. We got the ball turned, thought about playing a three ball and then turned back and just knocked it back to Scott Dan. He got a round of applause from the whole crowd. And then later on, he got dispossessed or played a terrible pass which got intercepted. No one turned anything. If Jen Knack had done that. Yeah, yeah. It didn't help. But it was... So his hand is then combined out. Yeah. Well, you know what, it's interesting. It's what I hope. Because I remember we talked about Charlie Adam after the testimony against Dundee when it was just really simple. The ball came to him and he looked up and he moved the ball on. Sometimes we've no touch at all. And it was really exciting to watch. And that's kind of, I think, what are we going to get? That was the one thing we have lacked in midfielders we have talked about. Is that killer pass? I tell you what, that's something that concerns me a little bit about the perception of Kibai. People don't always appreciate central midfielders. And people don't always appreciate central midfielders because at the very height of the game, and if they're of a certain ilk, they'll do what Javi used to do for a pass. They recycle the ball all the time. Yeah, they do. They find an angle. They spread play all the time. Unless they score goals all the time or they assist all the time, people go, "What are they doing?" Well, and it happened yesterday. Geddonack got the ball, passed it into Kibai. Kibai, before he received the ball, looked over his shoulder, saw a danger approach and knocked it back to Geddonack. Yeah. And you could almost sense Geddonack thinking, "Well, what's he done that for?" And I think they'll take time for the players to understand that we have to play in a slightly different way. And that got me thinking, and the second half, Ledley came on, and I would think of the two holding midfielders, if you assume it's Ledley and Geddonack. Ledley's probably better suited to playing with Kibai. But to come back to your question. Yeah, and Kibai. That's a good point. That's an interesting one. Well, it'd be interesting to see who does it. Well, you're most excited about J.D. Just generally. I think, obviously, generally. I think just having proper football back, and getting so bored of pre-season, it just does my head in. Have a season ticket next to me? No, there's, thankfully, there's two others in between us, I think. Where is that? Well, that's exciting. Upper or lower? No. But not in the young, you know? In the old people bit. In the old people bit. Quested tunnel. I think just having Palace back. I think my season ticket for last year's gone. I've got to find somewhere else. Where were you laughing? Up a tier. Cute. I haven't seen him last year, still. Not yet. No, I'm waiting until I come back familiar and I'll see what's spare time. So I'm missing the first four games in the season. But the study centre no longer looks over the picture now, which is really annoying, because that used to be my getout card. First year with the study centre, I just got a meeting in there. Nice, nice. Right. Thank you, listeners. You're not going to ask me what I'm most excited about. I thought you already answered. Oh, did I? Yeah, you did, yeah. You said something. It was a law case, I think. Gone in, straight. Well, I'm most excited about. Scott Bandstain. I thought I'd guaranteed to leave. That's a good point, actually. Yeah. And I'm delighted that he's played, and I think he's won the best set of acts. I've seen Palace for a lifetime, and I actually, because I'm a bit, I like to be difficult contentious. I'm watching a brilliant centre back, and I think he's fantastic. So, I'm looking forward to watching him play for Palace for a lifetime. Five-year contract, just one of the best signs we could make. I quite agree, because Everton's interest was very serious. We spoke about how, you know, we think Palace need another centre back. But can you imagine a centre back pairing of Delaney and Hangalam? Yeah. We've all due respect to them, and I've paid them none there. Like, that would have been a little bit worrying, wouldn't it? Yeah. The best, as well, is that, yeah, you imagine if United had come in for Dan or Liverpool, he probably would have gone. It's like, if the last he goes, I don't mind, if the last he goes to one of the top four final, he goes to PSG final, she ends up going to Newcastle, West End World. Actually, it's not going to happen. That just won't happen. And also, I don't think we didn't notice your real criticism of women's football there. What? Where? We're really bored of all the football. I meant pre-season. Actually, the women's world cup was brilliant. I enjoyed it a lot. I enjoyed it a fancy feminist change day that he says. They won game. They won game. I think the final was USA. USA gets Canada in the semi-final. They beat Canada on their home soil. Yeah, that was amazing. They're quite fun. They're lost in the last minute with an own goal. It was a semi-final game. USA. Japan. Japan. We beat Germany in the third place. They did brilliant. Yeah, very, very unlucky. Good luck also to the powerful ladies. Yeah. I think we're getting rich at spokes on who's there, chairman at some point. Oh, really? To talk about their progress and where they're going and all that stuff. And the links with the club? That'd be good. Yeah, definitely. Good stuff. Right. Listeners, thank you for your questions. In part three, we're going to look forward to the first game of the season, which is away at Norwich. So join us in a bit. Hello listeners. Welcome back to the Five Year Plan podcast. Hey! Oh, wait. We're going to talk about the new season sponsored by JC Innovation and Strategy, the global research and brand consultancy from South London. Visit JC-IS.com. And vector printing for all your print and embroidery needs. Go to vector.co.uk. That's vector with us. OK. You're so much more professional this season. Thank you very much. You've been practicing over the summer. I've been practicing over the summer. Then what? Last season. Oh. It's not fair to compare that to seeing us. I mean, the bar is JD from the last season. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Onwards and upwards, boys. He's in both seasons. They call it us. Part three. We're going to look forward to Norwich Away. First game of the season, as Kevin said earlier. Potentially a six pointer or certainly one given palaces run after that. Well, there'll be six points. Up for grabs. Definitely a three pointer. I think it's a three pointer. I don't know there's a new rule this game. OK. To release the now students morning. Tim and Matt, imagine if you could do that. Imagine if you could do that. So Adrian Charles, as soon as you don't get six points. Imagine if you could do that. Like you play one joker throughout the season where you get six points if you win. Because we'd get it wrong. Palace, we'd get it wrong again. He'd just compare me to Adrian Charles. Yeah, number one. I'm not a sactory. I'm not a potato head. Who would you play against? Liverpool or Everton? Liverpool. Because of our record. We seem to be the... It's hypothetical question. I've got an intention to launch. It's awesome. It's a really awesome one. It's a really awesome one. It's a really awesome one. It's fine. Right. We did have a question relating to this game from... Aim half. Hey, aim. Hey, aim. What do you think... I mean, it's fairly obvious question. What do you think it's going to be starting at 11? I don't see those at all. Those are the worst questions I think. That's a really interesting question. Penisies. Penisies. Can I see it? Can I see it? Do you think Penisies is going to be starting? Sparing is going to start. No, he's injured, apparently. It's hard. He said, yeah, out for four weeks. Oh. He's probably not played all pre-season, right? No. Yes, which... When he wasn't named even on the bench or... in starting at 11 yesterday. I just assumed he was on a romantic break with Rob Sutherland. Yeah. Either way, he's not had a great preparation for the season. I love it. Not probably be... Well, if he's going to leave, I think that'd probably be a good indication on it. Like, in some pre-season you do juggle things around. Like, there's no indication as to sort of the direction you're going to say. If McCarthy starts that game, you'd probably have to say, maybe the intention is that Hennessy will leave. Well, Hennessy played 90 minutes yesterday. We're getting a pre-season friendly. Oh, I see. If McCarthy plays 90 minutes next week. Yeah, but I think the last pre-season game is usually very close to the starting 11. Until on the BBS earlier, compared our last three... that situation for the last three seasons, the goalkeeper never changes. So what was starting at 11 yesterday? Well, it was Hennessy and Gold. It was Ward, Dan Delaney, Swire, which makes sense. Yeah. Fred and I could buy in much in the middle. Whoa. We haven't discussed much very much. He's excellent yesterday. Was he? Fantastic. Yeah. Possibly hit him to our best player. Really? Yeah. Judonack played, and Ledley came on for him second half and was, in my opinion, much better. MacArthur, indeed? No, MacArthur played, so it was Judonack, MacArthur, and much. No. Sorry, no, much to start. Judonack, MacArthur, and Goodbye. Punch-in, Zaha, and Murray up front. Oh, okay. Bamford not even on the bench, but possibly because he played against Bromley on Thursday. Yeah. It's got a hat ring, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Well, I guess the question is, who starts in Gold, which is one of two, given to Bernie Zinges? Or in Holiday with Rob. What? Or in Holiday with Rob. Or in Holiday with Rob, yeah. Yeah. Well, slightly in Rob. Well, slightly in Rob. Speaking of which, congratulations to Rob Sutherland of this pod and of this fanzing. Of, uh, for completing the Ride 100 cycle thing today. Along with Kevin Thompson, also a friend of the pod. Well done. Well done. Well done to them and everyone else who raised loads of charity by cycling a very long way on quite a hot day. Do we know that they did it? Or were we just assuming they did it? My favorite thing was that Rob got to the end and I saw his pedometer thing that was sort of measuring it by GPS. And it said 99.7 miles because it cut out in the black hole tunnel. Oh, oh. Which I just thought was brilliant. It's like, you're not having that. You're not finished. No, well done to them. Well done, boys. That was impressive. Uh, I, I think probably Hennessy's the better keeper out of the two, if I'm honest, from what I've seen. Um, what have you seen? What have I seen? I've watched a summer cut. Nothing. I've seen nothing because I'm picking it on names and the fact that Hennessy's Welsh. Uh, I've seen a little bit of McCarthy in pre-season and also a little bit for QPR. But again, it's sort of fleeting glimpses in the same way that when Hennessy signed for Palace. Yeah. It was fleeting glimpses that we'd seen of some of his time at walls when he was a little bit young and a little bit more inexperienced, you've probably just got to trust the people that are training with these players every day as to sort of who they pick. Um, from what I've seen, I probably think Hennessy's the better goalkeeper. But if they decide to go with McCarthy, you know, although he didn't make that bad mistake then he gets the sporting club to pull to you girl. They're not called sporting policemen. No. Nora into Milan called into Milan. That's true. Oh yeah. Which is the most hip is the comment that we've made on this podcast. Um, but he didn't make quite a bad mistake. And Hennessy's looked fairly reliable, isn't he? Sorry, wasn't it? Glasgow's silty, don't call Glasgow's silty. What are they called? Silty. So why do we call them Glasgow's Celtic? Why do we call them into Milan? Yeah. Inter. Uh, yeah, good. Why do you call them athletic, I mean, red? Yeah. Well, it's not athletic. Athletic. Athletic. Athletic. Cloud. Athletic. Why? Because they started by an Englishman and they dropped the O as a tribute to the Englishman. That's cool. They've all started the club and managed them. That's cool. So they've always been athletic. Athletic. Club. Not the bar. But not bill well. No. Fantastic. Glad we cleared that up. I think it's where we asked them. I think McCarthy's been bought as a second-choice keeper. Yeah. Well, a long-term, long-term keeper. A long-term, certainly. Because my instinct was that Hennessy, I didn't know about that. Julie had been in touch. My instinct was that Hennessy would be the starting keeper this season. Yeah. I think McCarthy's the backup and Julie in having a sort of world-deserved rest before sliding into the world-deserved... Sure. He's delighted to be under that rest. He's probably still getting over the fact that my dad kept calling him a little fella at the beer festival. Did he? Yeah. It took a bit more, but my dad met Jim Cannon, which he's pleased about. David Payne, which was just two old blokes, gets a what pond to each other. And my dad going, "I don't remember seeing you play in that game." But he met Julie. And he was so, he went, "Oh, you're a tiny little fair for a goalkeeper, aren't you?" He was smart. He was a bit fella. I met Julie. He was very nice. Well, of course he was so nice, isn't he? He was so nice. He was breaking down. Dude, he's the same as all the time too! But then also, my dad looked at the picture of Dave Madden in the beer and looked at Dave Madden and then looked back at the picture about ten times before going, "Are you sure you're the same bloke?" Poor old Dave man. I think it's funny we're playing. Sorry, when fit, I mean, this season when fit. Well, the question was usually the star of his life, so we've ascertained. Well, I'm allowed to, I'm the pod host. I'm allowed to go. So as far as it's going to be an effect, I think it's probably going to be Hennessy, because even if he doesn't go, he's the more experienced keeper at that level at the moment. Who's the other left butt from the youth team was in? Scales. Scales one. No, that's what I'm starting to be for. I think he's the good though. Dan and Delaney surely, or may it of Dan and Hengeland? Did we not say for most of the last season that we thought Delaney reluctantly wouldn't be starting? I know, but weren't we all assuming that we would be in the situation where Delaney wouldn't be the first to us in the back? Yeah, probably, yeah. Well, before recording the pod, if we could pick one position to strengthen, if we could only make one sign in the summer, it would be a centre back, and it's the one we haven't made. Because we're all assuming that Kelly's going to be really just in the back. At some point. At some point. I think an assigned collaging on Tuesday, he's going to start. Well, obviously, again, I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't happen. That's my start. But whether he starts on that, I don't know. But again, Swari's apparently been quite good in... Swari's looked really good. The team midfield, I think the back four, pretty much at the moment, takes care of itself for the personnel that we've got. It's then how it starts in midfield. But again, I think that will change. Maybe it will be an indication of his attacking intent, because obviously I don't think we'll start with the same midfield away at Old Trafford as we would. Yeah, exactly. So I think it depends whether he wants to set up to win the game. And I think Paul drew from what we've learned of him, and as Streety said, he doesn't really like draws. He doesn't really like draws. He doesn't do. He'd rather go and try and win the game. Yeah. I think he will. I think he will set up with a more attacking... I think the key, and you mentioned it earlier, nor it will come out all gun to blazing. First, going back in the Premier League, at home, a winnable game in their eyes. An important thing for us to do is to take the thing out of the game in the first 20 minutes. Control possession, don't let them get in behind, don't let the crowd get... Well, make the crowd get on their backs. Goodbye would be vital to that. Yeah. Yeah. As a result, I pick, ledly, over Jeddonack. Probably someone else who can keep possession. Punching. So those three. Oh. I said that. You wouldn't be at all surprised, as Paul has with two, no doubt after. Yeah, of course. And then clawed our way back to... Yeah. But you, J.D. was shaking... I think Jeddonack will start. Do you? I think it's a sort of game that... Paul, do you think Jeddonack could be good in? But again, this is one of the discussions we've had, literally every pod since Paju came in. He doesn't fancy Jeddonack, I think it's too slow. Played him, almost every game, I think. It's interesting that... I think you'll play him and McArthur and Ben Kebai in the middle. And unfortunately, I think Punching will be our wide, and I'd rather him in the middle, but... I think he has to be, because Velas is injured. So he's our next best winger. He's our next best winger. He can't... It's one of those conversations where we can't not play Punching off in the back of the last seven games of the season. Exactly. He provides for you and you need a defensive midfield player or two away from home. Off the back of yesterday, well, after yesterday, and off the back of last season and pre-season at this point, if I'm the manager, which I'm not, don't worry, there are... It's inclusive. I mean, I don't tell you that I'm bringing the big stories here. I think we've got three central midfield positions, and for me, it's three out of five, which is Ledley, MacArthur, Punching, Kebai, and Jordan Mutch. So... Why'd you not done that? I just think it was so wrong. I don't... I'm not... I'm so wrong about my own opinion. No, I just... Disagreeing my opinion. Yeah. I think he didn't know. Despite not playing much in the second half of last season, despite getting a bit older, I still think, for what he offers, he's still got to be up for consideration for one of those two defensive midfields, but... There's no player, probably, in that position, more physically intimidating in that league than Janak, and I think there's a value in that. And I think a lot of it is going to come down to whether he is prepared to be, at times, a bit of a bit part player, because he's not going to start every game. No. But I think there'll be a value for him. He's our captain, exactly. Because of what keeps us there. No, he'll come out, all guns blazing, and we'll want to keep possession, but we'll also probably want to make a bit of a statement to them as well. Exactly. That's why I think it's perfect for this game. I just don't think you'll probably come out in that game with a punch in a MacArthur, and a Qibai, I don't see that. I think David McCarthy, Qibai, and Janak. McCarthy? Uh. I agree. I agree. I agree. I agree. I agree with MacArthur. Janak and Qibai. We're punched, punchable, and Murray, or Bamford. I wouldn't be surprised to happen. I wouldn't be surprised that you wouldn't be here. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was Murray that started. I think it'd be Murray. I wouldn't be surprised. Bamford coming on? Yeah. Bamford and Chung Lee, most exciting players coming on. Remi? No, no, no. I don't think that's going to... Seems to have gone very quietly. Kind of wicked. Kind of wicked. It tends to me. You can end up with Ava Conneiro, his physio as well. His girlfriend. Really? Yeah. Seriously? Yeah. J.D. has a live size. Not anymore. Not anymore. Not anymore. What do you want? We're not kind of wicked, but Ava Conneiro. That went ages ago. Who's Chelsea physio? That's one of them's girlfriend. I believe so. I thought he was... Welcome to the Heat Podcast. You thought he was supposed to be getting out of someone from a tower in one of those programs? No, no, no. He was supposed to be going out with the Geordie Shaw. Yeah, it's something like that. You just made this up street. I feel like I'm up. What's the point? I'm trying massively though. No, no, no. Where did you get out of a live size cutout? I found a printing company. A company who agreed to print it for quite a lot of money. Victor? It wasn't Victor. The reason I did it was... They've got some standards, Victor. Can I just clarify? The reason I did it, I did a parody song on YouTube about Ava Conneiro a few years ago. For the video, I thought I'd have a live size cutout. And then it sat in my room for ages and I couldn't get rid of it. I tried to sell it on eBay. Didn't get rid of it. I tried to sell it on eBay. I didn't get rid of it. I tried to sell it on eBay. I didn't get any bids, but that's probably because I put "used" as the condition. So probably "used" should have been "used". Anyway, on that note... And this is why we've got no theme artists. I think it's time for us to wrap up this week's pod. First part of the isn't? Perhaps. Thank you very much for joining me. Thank you for joining me. Thank you for being on the pod that you're always on anyway. So listeners, thank you for listening. Oh, quick plug. Jesse Boyce, who designs our fanzine, has new t-shirts out. Oh. And they say "fly super out", but rather than "LA" is "L". They're quite cool little t-shirts and you can get those on Twitter from @thegoldfather. And I don't know what this website is, but you'll find it through the F-O-B Twitter. We'll put them on the F-O-B website as well. So check those out because they're awesome. And they're probably going to be sold out fairly soon, I'd imagine. Not very much. Good. So listeners, thanks for your questions. We're back next week after the Norwich game. We won't. You and I won't, but Andy and some other people will be. And if you are in Edinburgh, come and see Kevin's show and come and see my show. Where are they? With time to date. Time to date. I'm at the Gilda Balloon 615. All right. Well, every night. Yeah. That's going to be Tyron, isn't it? No, professional comedian. It's only an hour or night. I can manage. Yeah. No, I've got a night off. It's going to be nice at the night, too. All right. I'm only doing two weeks because I'm not a professional comedian. But I am at the Jacqueline Hyde. What time? 2pm from the 8th to the 15th and 12th to the 16th to the 21st. I'm making people buy tickets for these things. On the North. Mine's free. There we go. In my one, you can get via the Gilda Balloon website or the Fringe box office or the box office on the day 30. So if you're in the area, check them out. Please do. It'd be great to see you.
