Got the juices flown and you leave them on a touchdown drive. Thank you It felt great especially in the first drive time for touchdown it's for your emphasize and just try and get the ball In the end zone this week, so I felt great to leave the guys down there for the first touchdown What'd you find out you're gonna be the starter Matt? Middle of the week probably Tuesday or Wednesday been a big battle with you and Aiden are you guys? I mean you try to help each other out is it just been a competition back and forth or how's that how's that working in the room with you - yeah, so it's been competition kind of throughout the weeks and I love Aiden. He's a great guy He's a great football player. Also a great guy We help each other out even on the sideline today just with film and talking about coverages and stuff, so Help each other as much as possible. You know, we hadn't seen that much of Desmond Hutton get let's again open D But you got you got him a couple of times, especially on that first drive How'd that come about was that through film study or just something you guys saw or you just have a connection? Maybe that we didn't know about before today. Yeah, it does play usually that he was played a big role for us Found him early, which was huge on the post felt great to get him ball a couple times He works really hard and he's a great player for us. Talk a little bit about your offensive line protection I mean they got two sacks in on you, but a lot of that was after the fact the first half You were pretty clean. That's a pretty clean pockets, didn't you? Yeah, our offense line played amazing today They all work really hard and they played really well today protecting me getting the ball on time I see you got a little bit of a knee. Is that something that happened today on this new turf matter? Is that something that you've been dealing with oh, that was new today, but that was just one play kind of held onto the ball too long So one thing I do want to ask you about right before half time there you had a good drive going What do you see on that interception because it looked like he was pretty well covered from up here? I don't know what you saw though. Yeah, definitely want that one back Obviously right before going into the half. I want to always want to get points going into the half Just missed him inside if anything just going low throw it away and just Pants went inside. So learn. Hey for first time starting a game. I was very impressed with what you did today Congratulations on a good effort. Thank you. You look at your journey here Well, it's a bit like kind of you know You've been you sat behind the oday and then you were gonna be the backup here this year What's it been like for you to kind of get to this point now? What's been that biggest key for you to keep after it and be a part of this pantheon? I think just a little bit of self-belief and always preparing on making sure you're preparing like the starter Even if you might not play that game preparing as much as you can because when you do start Those skills you learn before will come up. So just preparation self-belief has helped a lot So how was the locker room at halftime Matt? I mean it was tough going in there You guys did some good things, but yeah defensively obviously was struggling. What was the talk at halftime? It actually it was pretty positive at halftime our defense knew they let a few touchdowns, but they felt good about what they were doing It didn't feel like they were Felt good on offense as well. I've had a couple points, but it wasn't negative We've had belief going in halftime. Oh good. You got to keep it I still all it a lot of games left to be played to that point What's the biggest thing now that you have had to start you've got that behind you? You've done the first and all of that and touchdowns and seeing the offense in those live live action situation What's the biggest thing for you that you all know already that you want to work on and improve on moving forward? I'd say just consistency throughout the entire game just making sure my reads are right going through my reads each time not getting greedy On and again preparation just make sure you're preparing every week. Don't get too high on a win or a good play Just keep preparing like it's your last play. We'll talk a little bit about that trick play They got that second half touchdown. That was pretty sweet. Yeah, that was that was great Drew that up early in there in the week and Tied it great job selling it. They're really good job selling it and then again jelly did a great job blocking is going down Great, I wanted to ask you that one they're over here on this sideline. I look like you had I don't I remember Desmond or somebody was open deep and you were trying to it was where you were faking to run and then Try did you miss handle the ball a little bit or you saw it? I think right but just didn't then it the the defense was there right? Yeah, they obviously fourth the one that played pretty aggressive. So I got to make sure to get the ball out in time faster So learn in the next week learned a lot of things. No, I was impressed with what I saw from you today, man Congrats. Congratulations. Great effort. You get to have your family. Did they get to come down for this? Yes, nice. My mom and dad came down very nice. That's good. Get to be that in front of the folks Well, go find them go talk to them and congrats again and great job on that first start more. Thank you Look forward to watching them. Thank you now by the head coach Mark Farley and coach this one Obviously we talked about it. There were there were some some positives there certainly from the offensive side The way you get out to a seven seven tie after one quarter What did you see defensively that was that biggest hurdle you guys had to get past against a very good South Dakota offense? Well, apparently they didn't see anything because they moved the ball all day long. So it's it's a simple It ain't simple deal, but it's a simple obvious thing that we couldn't stop them couldn't get them off the field couldn't win the line of scrimmage and Could it could get any edges and that was that was the problem? They'd give you any looks or formations or stuff coach that you hadn't seen I wish they would have but they didn't Know that was just when the line of scrimmage and we didn't do it and yeah I couldn't get off the field on third down. They were they started out eight for eight on third down And that's what obviously kept all those drives alive. Yeah Yep, you got a new starting quarterback in Matthew Shekleman You turn to him and the offense goes out gets those early ten points What did you think of Matthew when you look at him as a first-time starter and what he was able to lead that offense to in this game? I thought Matt did a good job. He came out Really through some tight balls and some tight windows. You can see that his height is a factor in there and he put it down the metal we hadn't been able to throw for the medal and And half those balls were down the middle so that that'll open up some other stuff But he threw the ball well. I think we only had one sack today, didn't we? Okay, they got two but one was late. Yeah, it isn't like we're getting sacks for low on sacks And even in the whole in the whole deal We've only been sacked probably six times seven times all year, so it ain't that but No, it was I checked checked did his job today What do you think made it so tough that it was tough running the football today and obviously you're a little short-handed But Ty really never really got going. What were you seeing that they were doing that caused that running game to not be so effective today? Well, it goes back to the line of scrimmage. I mean we had you know, it's There's a little bit of a I don't want to say a timing issue But there is there is a unit issues there because you know, I think Jack went out there did a nice job today Yeah, you know cuz cuz we were we were out our starting center and our starting guard and the whole deal And then and then Ty carried a little bit. Yeah, I thought tight tie tie did you know, it's Ty ran, you know for the multiple times he had to carry it and the hits that he takes and those types of things so You know, Chuck took some pressure off and made some completions Des like you said caused some balls force and did some good things So there was there was definitely some things there that showed spark But there's there needs to be a lot more Yeah, I'm gonna say a pattinger today pun the football did a nice job average almost 47 yards a kick coach Doing a good job. I told him that we cleaned up the special teams quite a bit this week And now we got to keep going that we can't let that slip and that was a factor And you know what you emphasize what you get and same thing We you know, we didn't get what we wanted it goes back the irritation and the and the and the struggles is stopping of run game and 12 personnel if you can't do that you can't play the game and so that's That's the name of the game and that just became nickel dime play action pass off that and then you can't get to the quarterback When they're when they're doing that to you. So, you know that we had some some We had some breaks and stuff with obviously, but when you can't play the base You're you're in a struggle. Yeah, yeah, no doubt it was Go ahead J double and then finally you look at it and last week the defense made some plays when you got to play head Up against South Dakota and the offense will shoot themselves this week the offense making some plays and the defense trying to find a Way to work through what's got to be the thing to bring everybody together to get that full unit all three phases working at North Dakota next week That's that's the that's the mystery that has to be solved if I knew that I would have done today So, you know, there's I appreciate you guys trying to make conversation, but at the same time It's like dang it. We couldn't stop the frickin run. All right. If you can't stop to run you're gonna struggle All right, we threw the ball good enough did some good things moving the chains what didn't have penalties and things like that out there So, you know, I look at it. They had the discipline of staying out of penalties. They had good special teams They did what I asked them to do all week long. They came in here and started good It was ultimately the whole thing of this game was that we could not stop the run game enough to then the play action pass took over and And then you falter all day long and then it leads to the whole game because it takes it takes the zap out of you So it was it started with the run game against the defense and that's that's where That's that's what I do And then when you sit there look at it Well, you can't play your base and be successful on your base and you then do you got all through everything? Well, six more to go coach another one coming up next week and we'll talk to you then. Okay. Thanks. Hey coach Mark Friday joining us We'll come back after this more Panther post game.
