It's time for the podcast you've been waiting for. The show where Kool-Aid runs blue. Faces turn red. And rose-colored glasses never go out of style. This is the Detroit Lions podcast. We know it was going to be far from easy when the year started. The Lions won this weekend and now it's time to take a look at what else happened around the league. As always, we start by making fun of the Bears off season decision to get rid of the undefeated Steelers starter Justin Fields and move on to a quarterback who finally managed to throw a couple of touchdown passes to go along with all of his interceptions this week. Kayla Williams threw them all 52 times and to nobody surprised the Bears lost. Those things don't equal success for a rookie quarterback. DeAndre Swift showed why two teams have let him leave or kicked him out of town averaging 1.3 yards per carry on 13 carries. Roshan Johnson led the team with 30 yards rushing on the day. With that said Williams legitimately looked better than he had previously just still not good but his 363 yards on the day. It's a good number but it only led to 16 points and the Bears lost despite adding another to the many examples of Anthony Richardson being terrible by not giving up any big plays that prop him up in the minds of the Unenlightened. The Colts almost squandered a 110 to touchdown or 110 yard to touchdown rushing performance by John at the Taylor because they achieved essentially nothing else of significance. Richardson added two interceptions to his total giving him six in three weeks in the season. The Colts beat the Bears 21-16. Despite that the Bears fall to 1-2 on the season made their descent never stop. Packers ran the ball down the Titans throats this week with 37 rushing attempts and only 19 passing attempts but when Malik Willis is your quarterback that's what you have to do and the Packers have. In all seriousness Willis looked better than he ever has as a quarterback with a touchdown in the air and one on the ground. He led the Packers in rushing on only six carries with 13 completed passes. Anyone who thought they knew which Packers receiver to draft and fantasy this year has been disappointed because at least for now the answer was none. How long will it take the league to figure out the Packers offense under Willis? Well the over-under for things like that is about three and a half weeks so we'll see how this goes. I bet the under teams now have enough tape to formulate an actual plan to get this Packers offense so we'll see where everything goes from here. We've seen what two bad teams did. Next week we'll see what Brian Flores has for the kid to deal with and I suspect the kid is not going to like that. If he has a good game against the Vikings defense I'll probably have to stop calling on my glorified running back but until then Willis the two. This episode is brought to you by all state. Speaking of the Vikings they beat the breaks off the Texans and Sam Donald threw for four touchdowns and no picks on the day. Perry Jones picked up 102 yards on the ground just to Jefferson continue to dominate the target share and yardage with 81 yards on six catches. The defense sacked CJ Straut five times and forced two interceptions. John Alfred Bernard was the standout defender for the Vikings with three sacks on the day against his former team in his revenge game. This one was never close. The Vikings ripped the Texans and knew 134 to 7. So the North sits with the Bears alone at the bottom where they belong. The Packers behind the Lions on tie breakers as God intended and the Vikings as that guy who still says "what's that?" When he answers the phone because he doesn't understand that the joke is dead. That's me. I'm the Vikings. In the East the Eagles beat the Saints to rise to the top of their division's sake. One Barkley put up 147 yards and two touchdowns. Dallas Goddard caught 10 for 170 and somehow the Eagles only managed 15 points on the day. Their defense stepped up against the Saints offense that had been destroying all who opposed them in their first two weeks. Derek Carr managed only 142 passing yards with one touchdown on one interception this week. Chris Olave had 86 in the air with a touchdown and the Eagles beat the Saints 15 to 12. The Cowboys fell to 1 and 2 and everyone talks about them despite the fact that they suck. So I'm not really going to. Derek Henry led the Ravens to this victory with 151 yards and two touchdowns against what used to be a good Cowboys defense. And in the battle of two quarterbacks their teams are regretting paying the most. The Daniel Jones led Giants a way way way way way distance second in that race beat the Browns 21-15 leaving both teams at 1 and 2 on the year. This was the Malik neighbors coming out party. The rookie had eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns on the day. Well like that yards per catch is kind of a laughable 9.8. It's hard to argue against the quantity and the scoring. And it's Daniel Jones the only player with more than one catch who averaged more than 10 yards for the Giants this week was running back in Devon Singletary because he did a lot of work after the catch. Both teams suck. Let's move on to the West where there's a whole bunch more of that going around. The Seahawks are 3-0. Going into their week four match up with the Lions they downed the Skyler Thompson and Tim Boyle led Dolphins in an easy 1-24-3. In this blowout Gino Smith through two interceptions and only one touchdown but that Miami offense right now without two is about as toothless as they come. Matthew Stafford launched his millionth come from behind drive to lift the Rams over the 49ers to round out this division. Kyron Williams was the load bearer of that offense on the day with 89 yards on the ground at two touchdowns and Brock Purdy was just under 300 yards and 3 TDs for the 49ers all of them to checking my notes here with all of their weapons at the beginning of this season. Juwan Jennings just like they planned it in June. Rams beat the 49ers 27-24 putting everyone in that division but Seattle at a whopping 1-2 in the south. The Buccaneers kept pace with the Saints dropping one to the Broncos. Yeah it wasn't a close one either. The team that went to the deep end with the Lions and came out on top in the last game jumped out and then lost to the Broncos 26-7 in the following week. I guess teams really are emptying out the tank against the Lions. If you'll remember the Rams let the Cardinals score 40 the week after they played the Lions. Everyone's bringing their best. The Falcons dropped their Sunday night game to the Chiefs and they're not an interesting team to talk about so I'm leaving them out. The Panthers though shocked the world by launching the Andy Dalton era to the stars with a 36 to 20 beatdown of the Raiders. Dalton had three touchdowns and no interceptions with 319 yards in the same offense where Bryce Young managed 245 yards and three picks in the first two games. My fellow Albertan, Chuba Hubbard, added 114 yards on the ground and Deontay Johnson who I forgot was actually good. In Pittsburgh before Kenny Pickett went there had eight catches for 122 yards. This is a great example for future Bears regimes because this one doesn't have long left. For what a team with a middle of the road quarterback can look like. We know they've never actually had one since Eric Kramer set their single season passing yardage record back in the day. Onto the AFC after a break where I pause the algorithm knows to slap an ad here. This episode is brought to you by Atlassian. The Jets one Thursday night and Aaron Rogers refused the most affection anyone has shown him as an adult on national television but did win at the football game while continuing to lose at life. They beat the Pats who sit at 1 and 2 and the Dolphins are right there at the bottom of that division. The Bills are undefeated going into Monday night as the only like good team. But they're playing the Jags and I'm assuming the Bills lose this one because everyone has completely written the Jags off after their two losses to start the year which were lost by a combined total of eight points. Well the Bills have won their games by an average of nearly two touchdowns so this is probably gonna be a let down game. Also Trevor Lawrence is a human with human emotions and I like to cheer for that. In the West the Chiefs went to 3-0 with their win over the Dirty Birds. Sadly Taylor Swift was not in attendance for those of you who didn't catch the game so the thumbnail for today's video had to be taken from a 2023 concert. I wouldn't want all you Swifties to not get your fix. And the rest of that division the Chargers lost to Fields fell the two in one on the year. The Broncos beat the Bucks to climb to 1-2 in a tie with the Raiders who got Dalton's. In the North the Steelers are undefeated at the top of their division with Justin Fields as their quarterback. How many games have the Bears lost because of their new QB? Two? Right? Two? Is it two? I think it's two. Okay moving on to the rest of this is something like shockingly bad division. The Ravens finally won a game from their second in the division at 1-2 along with the Browns. The Bengals are still winless going into their Monday night game against the commanders so I'm gonna just go ahead and say that they're 1-2 on the year because the commanders are terrible. And I suspect that before the year started you could find about an equal number of predictions that the Ravens or Bengals were going to win this division and about an equal number of predictions that the Steelers or Browns would be last but I guess that's why they play the games. There's a lot of all left to play but this division started out kind of freaky which takes us to the terrible terrible nerdy South. The Texans are still at the top after their first loss of the year and the Colts are the only team with a win unless the Jags beat the Bills tonight. Actually they don't I'm probably gonna look like an idiot Tuesday morning. Let's bring it here together. Line's on three! 1-2-3! You've had enough of that shit.
