The insuleoin Podcast - Redefining Diabetes

#43: Crucial Turning Points in a Life with Type 1 Diabetes, with Scott Burrell.

On today’s episode of The insuleoin Podcast, Eoin speaks with Scott Burrell.

Scott is from the UK and has been living with Type 1 Diabetes for over 20 years. Despite living with the condition for this time, Scott admits that he hasn’t always been on top of his Diabetes management.

He tells his story of how he coped with things quite well initially, following his diagnosis, but as he got into his teen years he began to neglect the fact that he had Diabetes. Scott would check his blood sugar just twice a month, only take insulin while at home and refuse to carry hypo treatment while he was out with friends. Which inevitably led to numerous ambulance calls.

There were two dramatic turning points in Scott’s life which resulted in him completely changing his mindset around his Diabetes.

He’s now an incredible advocate for Diabetes health, represents his country at international Futsal Championships and frequently competes in long distance running races - breaking records along the way.
