All right, welcome everybody to another edition of talking ball post game live with Pat Leonard, the New York Daily News NFL columnist and Giants beat writer here on the believe network and the PL on NFL YouTube channel live from MetLife Stadium after a disappointing Giants defeat. Frankly, the players as frustrated as they've seen them in a while, in particular Daniel Jones and he didn't say anything earth shattering at the podium after the game. But his demeanor, the fact that we know he took a beating in the game, we know they only scored seven points. It was more, I think, the cumulative idea of the fact that the Giants had believed that they had made strides, they had made improvements and they knew that last week's win in Seattle while exciting was only going to mean as much as they were able to back it up. And that was not only a fair way for us on the outside to judge them. It was also the way they were viewing themselves as a team that had made strides not just in that game, but as John Runyon Jr. the left guard said he was very thoughtful after the game I thought about the fact that the Giants felt like they'd really started putting things together and he frankly can't put a finger on or an answer on why they hit this speed bump again, why at home they're averaging fewer than 10 points per game as a team while they're averaging 22 points a game I think it is on the road through three weeks. They knew that the strong running game in Seattle, the team win the element of all sides of the ball at a certain point supporting each other, that had to continue and we talked after the Seattle game from Lumen Field when I was out there for the Giants, great win frankly over the Seahawks and the feeling coming out of that game was Tyrone Tracy was exciting, seemed like a little bit of a revelation Dario Slaton obviously produced in Malik Neighbors absence and Daniel Jones was lowering his shoulder playing tough making plays by and large though what happened was the Giants got in the end zone and in this game against the Cincinnati Bengals against a good defensive coordinator in Luan Arumo of course a guy we know well here from this area former Giants assistant you know head coaching candidate year in and year out even though his defenses you know from the last three years have regressed as the personnel is kind of regressed with it and they came into this game allowing 29 points per game which was 30th in the 32 team NFL and so you know the scheme was good they I thought did not pressure as much I think as the Giants expected to Daniel Jones alluded to the fact that defensively they were playing to take the big play away frankly I thought both teams were doing that you know Zach Taylor the Bengals play caller and head coach just really getting too cute offensively he and Joe Barrow just I mean you know they wouldn't take what the Giants defense was giving them and then the Giants defensive pass rush really impressive as he's Ojilari Brian Burns without cave on Thibodeau they were really getting after Joe Barrow and even though the defense had a couple breakdowns Brian Dable said at best I thought he said the defense played winning football and Tyrone Tracy said the exact quote was if we execute better offensively we win the game so that's good in the sense that you were right there because your defense played so well against the top quarterback and some of the best you know offensive skill players in football but it also means that your offensive head coach the play caller your quarterback the side of the ball that you're supposed to be growing with and improving is not getting it done and we're kind of back where we started we're back at square one and that's what Daniel Jones's demeanor looked like to me he looked like somebody who had taken a lot of hits and who walked out of here understanding that the progress that they had made in Seattle you know had hit a wall and now they're walking into this meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles with Sequon Barkley coming in Philadelphia they're reeling as well no question about it the Eagles not looking like they're necessarily going to dig themselves out of anything but the Giants can't take anybody lightly if they're going to be scoring seven points at home like they did here six points against the Minnesota Vikings 15 points against the Dallas Cowboys John Runyon Jr. said at best he had a quote he said we're not going to win any games if we just keep relying on kicking field goals when we get down there in the red zone we've got to put the ball in the end zone I know this home crowd wants to watch us win a game and they're tired of watching us on TV when we go away and are winning there we've got to score points at home so that that's really well said thank you all for being here I see everybody in the queue we'll get to your questions quickly when I remind you we are sponsored by my bookie my bookie response is celebrating its 10th year anniversary rolling out the red carpet for betters I don't want to pat myself on the back too much but I gave away the Tyrone Tracy receiving yards ladder if you played the receiving yards ladder on Tyrone Tracy all three of those legs hit you would have made some money I also played the Bengals minus two second half that hit as well of course you got lucky if you bet that because Greg Joseph missed a couple field goals but that's still hit and also I believe I went 10 and 3 against the spread overall in my picks two and one in my Pat's picks with Monday night Jets bills to come so make if you purchase a super chat or super sticker I will address your comment or question first right at the top of the queue otherwise I will go in order we start with Brett M who says second and inches twice quarter back sneak kick the field goal penalties beat ourselves again yeah those penalties especially they had a string of three straight offensive drives with penalties on them including the most costly one the Andrew Thomas illegal man down field penalty that negated the darius late in 56 yard reception that was a backbreaker a killer you know every week a play caller like dable you know just like Zach Taylor on the other side every week you draw up a handful of plays that at a certain point you feel very confident in a certain situation it's going to hit and when you call it when you use it when you unleash that idea and it works and it gets called back because of mental errors and details missed it kills you I asked Daniel Jones about that play he said that you kind of run the risk of something like that happening when you run an RPO just a part of the play so that was a run pass option and Andrew Thomas has a responsibility to block in the running game if Daniel hands that off so as an offensive lineman your responsibility is to make those blocks hold those blocks move those blocks down the field get to the second level but you obviously can't do that as an offensive lineman you cannot stray from the line of scrimmage I believe it's a yard from the line of scrimmage you cannot stray more than a yard from the line of scrimmage until the ball proceeds there so Andrew Thomas error there and frankly Andrew had really you know the one of the worst game I've seen him playing a long time Trey Hendrickson won that battle tonight Andrew did hold up on certain plays impressively and bought Daniel Jones time to throw on several plays no doubt about it but he had a tough night he also got hurt he did finish the game but he was laboring badly at the end he hurt of one of his feet he had an x-ray done on it and he told us that he needs an MRI done on Monday because they told them they need the MRI to tell them fully what's going on with the foot so kind of holding your breath on that one alright D kit purchases a super chat thank you so much D kit he says Pat this was an example of a team that can't find a level of professional consistency on offense why because the most important position doesn't do the things that are necessary when the team needs it most period I mean you know that's obviously fair at this point with the Giants track record with Daniel Jones's track record you know I saw our friend Jordan Ronon from ESPN he posted a stat that Daniel Jones has not thrown a touchdown pass in his last seven prime time starts and he's one in 14 in prime time with 12 TD passes and 20 interceptions I mean it's just impossible to argue with those numbers those are the numbers right so I do think one thing I thought about in this game I have to go back and look at the play by play in the moment is like Daniel Jones said last week I asked him about how the running gets him into a game and he acknowledged that running the ball does help him get into a game he does enjoy running the ball early and I felt like they did not run Daniel early enough and he they did not get in a flow offensively early in the game and it affected them the entire game and you know the players acknowledged that I mean Darius Layton it you know essentially admitted that going score was in the first half then you know impacts the way that the second half goes how you operate but yeah the first first Giants drive they go they go three and out no they go four and out so they get a first down to Darius Layton on a pass and then three three more Daniel Jones passes and a punt and then the next drive they go Tracy run Jones past Jones sacked Bengals penalty Jones past Tracy run Jones past Jones past Jones past Jones interception so he didn't run the ball at all in the first quarter and then they come out at the second quarter at the start of their third drive and Daniel Jones runs for 13 yards and that's the first time he gets his legs moving on the ground and gets running I thought that was a mistake I think you need to get him running earlier I think that's a key part of his game but D kit we just went over those stats that from ESPN one touchdown pass from Daniel Jones sorry no touchdown passes from Daniel Jones in his last seven prime time starts hard to believe D kit thank you so much for that support really appreciate you all right let's see who is next up in the queue here Jim says hey Pat what are your thoughts on benching Daniel Jones and on the offensive line so Jim I think on benching Jones so you know you don't want to react to so okay last week in Seattle Daniel Jones has the kind of game that makes you say this guy is going to be their quarterback next year again to right right I mean that was that was part of the conversation that was at least some of people's takeaways from that game and frankly that's the only fair way to act when Daniel plays the way he did in Seattle and when they do get in the ends of it when they score a big win on the road and when he's using both his arm and his legs protecting the football most you know mostly other than the first play where he fumbled and Andrew fell on it right and so you know I think you can't overreact necessarily to just one game coming off of that that okay I had supreme confidence in him in week five now we have a dud here and it's week six and now it's time to turn the drew lock because if you saw the Giants functioning at a high level in Seattle you know that Daniel Jones was a major part of it it's not like he was a long for the ride in fact I wrote a story last week for the New York Daily News I think you guys if you didn't read it already you should check it out but a huge part of their game plan in Seattle involved Daniel Jones checking and alerting often at the line when he was reading the Seattle coverages and adjusting to run calls to Tyrone Tracy Junior or other things that they had in their game plan that they knew they wanted to take advantage of but it wasn't just his running and his throwing it was also his recognition of what he was seeing from Seattle's defense based on his game plan with Dable he was a very good operation in a lot of ways now obviously at the end they still end up giving the ball back to the Seahawks and giving the Seahawks a chance to drive down and score so it wasn't perfect but there were just a lot of elements of that where to say all of a sudden you got to bench this guy now I think that's tough I mean Malik neighbors out this game I'm not making excuses for the guy I mean listen you got to you got to win these games right you got to you got to score more points than you did at least I mean for them to hold Cincinnati to 17 points and that's 17 included a touchdown run at the very end of the game right when Cincinnati's essentially icing it for them to do that for it to be 7 nothing as long as it was then tied 7 7 then Cincinnati up 3 and the Giants only down because they miss a field goal for them to not win that game and not generate enough offense to win a game like that where you're playing well defensively at home and the crowd is into it right the crowd was booing a little bit going into halftime because the Giants were shut shut out 7 nothing going into half but the crowd was ready tonight and the defense was keeping them ready and the offense still couldn't do it that he was kind of like keeping the crowd off of the offense and they still couldn't do it benching Daniel though I mean I listen I saw enough football in the preseason from Daniel Jones and Drew Locke to be able to tell you I think I think this is what I believe I think that Daniel is clearly and it's not close the best quarterback on the Giants roster Drew Locke does throw a pretty deep ball but I think Daniel overall his skill set his ability to run his strength his ability to take kind of take a beating and stay in there there's a lot of reasons why I think he gives the Giants the best chance offensive line you know I was talking about Andrew Thomas earlier not impressed Andrew had a really rough night. Jermaine Aluminor had a penalty Andrew had a killer penalty they had some illegal shifts as an offense the run game did not get going as they wanted it to the Giants finished with 3.8 yards per carry Tyron Tracy Jr. was a weapon in the receiving game so he ends up with 107 total yards and a touchdown on the ground after Slayton drew that pass interference in the end zone but Tracy only went 17 carries for 50 yards 2.9 per carry I think the interior of the offensive line was not getting the same kind of push we saw in Seattle and that showed looks like we got another super chat it's D kit again mom and D kit thank you so much he says Daniel Jones was very inaccurate tonight and made some curious throws to covered receivers when others seemed to be open do you have an explanation for that I do think D kit to go along with Jim's point just there I think that I think he got hit a lot early in this game or hurried and hit more early in this game than he has been I definitely think that he had security blankets that he liked to go to especially when he knows the down and distance in situation there are certain plays where Wandao Robinson over the middle is the quickest and easiest to read and most reliable and then Dariis Slayton he obviously have a good connection he said that on the interception he was trying to throw the ball out of the back of the end zone that's that's a strange thing for me to hear him say because the throw away seems to be if you're gonna throw it away seems to be easily just like Dable said throw it at the feet of Tyrone Tracy Jr. if you're not going to actually throw it over there to him the play was drawn up for Theo Johnson on a throwback into the end zone there and Jones said he tried to throw it out the back of the end zone and then when he did he got hit when he threw but obviously ill advised as far as the inaccuracies I mean no explanation D kit for I mean the under throw to Dariis Slayton at the start of the second half would have been like a 12 yard gain on a hitch or on a comeback route outside I mean he just under threw him good protection good route good everything under threw him Wandao Robinson streaking that across the field to the left side there with three guys chasing him open just misses him the deep shot to Dariis Slayton on the right sideline was a good throw I think it was good coverage to I mean the ball was there but just didn't connect that wasn't a that wasn't a bad throw but I know what you're talking about too on some of the third downs throwing one area where it looked like another guy was open like one day all over the middle when Slayton was open outside you know even it was interesting even that fourth down that really cost them there instead of trying the 54 yarder very strange there to me I know I know Greg Joseph had already missed a field goal but you don't want to tie the game your defense has been playing great you don't want to tie the game with Greg Joseph I mean I'm pretty hasn't he already hit a 50 plus yarder for the Giants so far I mean very strange stuff that's coaching there to me too I think as far as do I have an ex explanation for Jones being off target on those throws no I do not other than he missed the throws which obviously is concerning I mean it's like when you go to the doctor you just want a diagnosis right you don't want to hear there's nothing wrong with you and you're telling the doctor yes there is I don't feel good right so I know how you feel let's see Tommy says stable needs to be the offensive coordinator not the head coach Tommy is on something here it's sad to see the defensive unit have to watch the offense continue squandering great opportunities table needs to get demoted and bring Bill in someone anyone Tommy that's a very interesting point I personally think there are a lot of head coaches who are better suited as coordinators you know in fact the Giants have ended up with a lot of them as their head coaches and macadoo pat shermer two really good examples of guys who good offensive coordinators are offensive minds not head coaches right so you know I don't I don't disagree with you on table I think I think with a good quarterback you know can they will run a good offense you know that kind of thing but head coach all that entails right discipline of your team your demeanor on the sideline your leadership plus the play calling getting the offense going but Tommy it's an interesting you it's interesting you say that too because it's almost like you're saying that his offensive coordinator reputation is intact just not the head coach but to me you are the offensive coordinator when you're calling the plays and if your team scores seven points in a prime time game against the defense averaging only 20 not or averaging allowing 29 a game you're on the hook for that and table said that you know he said put it on me put it on me said that a couple times tonight and so I don't think you can excuse that I think saying that even that he would be a surefire great offensive coordinator is a lot right now because listen Josh Allen's a better quarterback than Daniel Jones so yes you're going to um you're going to score more points with Josh Allen than you are with Daniel Jones you know like good players make good coaches that's the that's kind of the saying great players make great coaches bad players make bad coaches whatever you know that really is what it is coaches can help coaches can develop coaches can augment coaches can drag things down right but it comes down to the quality the player really ultimately the tables track record with players who are not Josh Allen leading its offense you know it's not as strong as you would expect but you know again then you look at the Seattle game you look at the game plan you look at the how the team executed it and you say we've got something here right I mean impossible not to say that coming out of that game now you know positives I would say obviously Aziz Ozilari Brian Burns you know really excited for Aziz just personally for him let's say he had four tackles two sacks two tackles for loss two quarterback hits Burns had his best game as a giant eight tackles sack two tackles for loss two QB Harry's he obviously has made some big plays in other games to force turnovers et cetera but really really impressed by him there and let's see I know they gave the force fumble there to Bobby O'Karrick a I thought Aziz knocked that ball out I wouldn't be surprised if they changed that as well like a McFadden with the recovery there on the Chase Brown fumble and you know those things were encouraging the defense fought the team fought so Dexter Lawrence did not talk after the game I was I was in Daniel Jones's press conference after Brian Dable then I came into the Giants locker room Dexter Lawrence was not was not in there and what from what I understand he never came in to talk and did not talk Daniel what's up thank you so much for supporting the talking ball post-game live with Pat Leonard here on the Believe Network and on YouTube and by the way if you're listening to this on the playback on Apple podcasts on Spotify wherever you get your pods first of all please subscribe rate and review to the talking ball with Pat Leonard podcast on on these audio pods wherever you want to listen but also if you're listening come watch us on the YouTube channel sometime PL on NFL subscribe to the channel you get notifications you can participate in these during the week after the Giants games when I come out of the locker room I've been covering the Giants and the NFL since 2016 Dable should have kicked the field goal at the end instead of going forward on fourth down don't care they missed the last one Daniel I I I agree I mean I don't you know I think I thought you know it's interesting I thought that Dable got bailed out by his defense and thank you so much for the super chat Daniel I thought Dable got bailed out by his defense on the forced fumble after he went for that one fourth down and the Bengals stopped them and the Bengals had great field position and it looked like they were gonna go in and take control of the game and then Chase Brown Fumbles to me that it was interesting because that emboldened Dable then to keep going for it and he did keep going for it and it actually results in a touchdown drive where they get to fourth downs and Tracy scores but ultimately at the end it becomes the wrong move to just keep his foot on the gas right like that you know so they kind of lived and died by Dable's aggressiveness and desperation in that respect and you know I think I thought he overthought that I mean I don't I don't understand why you wouldn't try to tie the game I mean when they signed Greg Joseph after the Graham Gano injury when they signed him they said that you know they reminded us that Greg Joseph had a 61 yarder to beat them in Minnesota now I know Minnesota is inside all that but Greg Joseph has hit a ton of field goals for the Giants over the last several weeks and I know he had missed one already but you don't want to tie the game like let's see how far was his 50 yarder against the Cowboys he had a 52 yard field goal for the Giants against the Cowboys here in this stadium two games ago so what are we doing here Joey B says our offense continues to struggle that damn kicker needs to be cut ASAP defense played well but not enough so frustrating very frustrating Jay says another game the Giants should have won very frustrating barber says hope neighbors had fun at that concert yeah Malik neighbors goes to a Travis Scott concert while in the concussion protocol with blasting music and strobe lights all over the place table said he didn't violate any protocol but obviously does not seem like the thing that you would advise a patient recovering from a concussion to do Brett says we got beat one game lost four let's see they are two and four so oh I think what you mean is they got beat by the Vikings in week one but they lost the other three the Washington game the Dallas game cheers to fall at Whole Foods market with sales through October 29th select frozen pizzas are 50 percent off with prime so stock up and be ready for game day hosting a cozy dinner there's a sale on hearty no antibiotics ever beef chuck roast and stew meat or be the best guest ever and bring a robust bottle of Bordeaux wine or specialty cheese like humbault fog cheers to fall at Whole Foods market must be 21 or older please drink responsibly and the bagels game yeah I think that's a fair way to put it a Zeke says pretty sure we win that game with Malik neighbors healthy you have to hope so you also have to hope now at this point now again back to the positives here on offense long term it has to be encouraging that you have Malik neighbors and Tyrone Tracy Jr. here because Tyrone Tracy Jr. looks like a real NFL player right like this is a fifth round pick now obviously you didn't get as much out of him in the run game in this game as you hope and as you got in the Seattle game but you still get production from him including his receiving yards six catches on six targets 57 yards receiving tied for the team lead in receiving with Darius Slaton who had six for 57 as well so with him and neighbors in the fold those are some building blocks right so that's encouraging on the other hand it still only results today in seven points neighbors out so I think what you're hoping for a Zeke and what you're alluding to is get neighbors back in the lineup now you got Tracy rolling and Singletary eventually gets healthy as a compliment to Tracy and maybe you start kind of putting the pieces together Ken says the only hope we have is the NFC East Stinks all wild cards will come from the NFC North yes true that's true this division is extremely disappointing all the way around it's almost like three of the teams the Eagles Cowboys and Giants they're all teams that could have made changes whole it's wholesale changes after the season and decided not to or didn't and are running it back and you're now seeing the result of that kind of you know I mean Philadelphia very flawed team some talent very flawed Dallas I mean total frauds coming off of a game in Pittsburgh where I really felt like that was an impressive win and they just I mean what the heck was that today right so you're right that opens up an opportunity but again the Giants just unable to capitalize on their opportunity on a day where the Eagles looked bad they beat the Browns but did not look good and then the Cowboys get whitewashed 47 to 9 to the Detroit Lions and the commanders despite being impressive early in this season meet their match in the Baltimore Ravens and lose 30 to 23 in fall to 4 and 2 so if you look at the division right now you have the commanders at 4 and 2 you have the Philadelphia Eagles at 3 and 2 the Cowboys at 3 and 3 and then the Giants at 2 and 4 in the last place obviously this game is huge coming up against the Eagles Sequon Barkley Joe Shane Malik neighbors Daniel Jones the division rivalry the standings are the Giants going to stay relevant are they going to make noise in this bad division are they going to snap out of it in in MetLife Stadium and their inability to produce at home so much that's big about what the Giants are either going to bring or not bring in this game and what it's going to tell us about their team Michael says well Pat another home loss as usual yes very disappointing hooks says Pat please ask the players to have a players only meeting so they can come back even more fired up next week I know they want to win their answers are also nonchalant and clam we should have won this game today we just had too many small mistakes that led to large consequences that last comment comment is a good summary I thought there these were some good comments from John Runyon Jr he said about playing at home not scoring at home even though they score on the road he said I've got no idea I don't know why it's going like that the crowd's been good they're supporting us they have energy it means a lot we've got to give them something to cheer for it's tough when you score pretty much seven points in an NFL game you're not going to do anything all season like that he also said it sucks I felt like we've been building something over these last couple weeks regardless of the result especially last week we thought we played really well last week offense and defense to come here and not play up to the standard that we won at we're home on Sunday night football it's really disappointing so I thought that was you know a leader of the team of veteran kind of stepping up and saying something meaningful and insightful there I mean Daniel Jones too he said it was very disappointing he said we couldn't sustain drives couldn't execute couldn't get into a rhythm it's frustrating he said that credit their defense their plan and scheme was to take away the you know some of those explosive plays he likes that dable went for that fourth down he thinks that the offense needs to get it dable interestingly I thought this was kind of interesting I put this in my story the daily news that that incompletion is slating on fourth down dable said that he would have done that he would do that again when I asked him about not keeping that field goal he said felt good about the call still feel good about the call so I doubled back and I said what do you mean by that and he said I would do it again you know I don't know what to say to that barbers says pat the Giants fans need a star quarterback not a diva receiver attending concerts while in concussion protocol understand that you are frustrated and I understand why d-kit at a loss for words is how does Jones play like that how could the offense look so and that please explain to me how something like this happens well I think there are some games where Brian dable has shown a game plan that keeps the opposing coach and defense on their heels like the Seattle game we just witnessed last week and then there's a game like this where I thought he met his coaching match I thought Lou Radarumo with Cincinnati's players but also scheme I think very much won the day and they flustered Daniel Jones they flustered Brian dable and they impacted the Giants ability to move the ball the way they were they wanted to to move the ball that to execute the game plan they felt could effectively beat the bangles so I thought this was a coaching and a players victory for the bangles over the Giants there that's that's part of my explanation there a to has a rant coming he says can't keep having the same conversation over and over the Giants need to move on from Daniel Jones ASAP he's literally wasting good years from other players teams well the team will never advance with him there I'm gonna let that rant stand a to Z me because you know I understand that frustration right now Joe with a ten dollar super chat thank you Joe he says I think our defense played fantastic save the burrow run but we were one to two big plays away from winning this one I think the only way we take the next step is with more quality at the quarterback position yeah it was funny even you know I don't think Zach Taylor or burrow particularly had very good games at all but it was almost like when Cincinnati did need a play or make a play it was kind of burrow just making a play right like with you know you had his recognition on the scramble you had by the way after a week when Gino Smith had that scramble you know for 35 yards or whatever on that last drive last week I mean the Giants defense just had this happen to them right this is a problem you know it's almost like they go man-to-man there and they're just not able to adjust right because they play so much zone maybe that's it you know but even some of his bigger throws down the field and bigger completions like his one to Yoshi Vos on the sideline later on the left sideline has a nice catch nice throw you know that was kind of burrow improvising a little bit buying some time for his players to get open and you're right I mean it does come down often too who's gonna make a play Joey V says is there a quarterback out there we can trade for who helps us compete and puts points on the board Jamis Tanahill is on the couch too I don't think so Joe I mean they obviously showed that interest in Russell Wilson before you could always say hey you know try and go there but you know they they got your lock I mean if they gave anybody a chance you'd have to think it would be Drew because they're paying him and they brought him in but that's not the kind of quarterback I think that you're asking for or looking for but no around the league there are not there are not any game changers who are just up for grabs right now if you look around the league in fact I mean you see the Colts are starting Joe Flacco you know Tennessee's got Will Levis in there just Sean Watson in Cleveland Miami you know struggling desperately without Tua I mean even the Jets thought they had a quarterback with Aaron Rodgers he's not playing well New England ended up benching Brissette starting Drake May they got smoked today even though May did throw three touchdowns but I think had three picks as well you know a lot of people at the quarterback position are struggling New Orleans scored some points today but ended up with their car out they had to start a rookie Spencer Rattler so you know it's not like it's not like there's a bunch of rich teams out there in QB and the teams who are rich at QB are certainly not looking to get rid of those guys I mean you know the one guy that crosses my mind on a bad team you know who man you you'd love to you know end up with is Matt Stafford but Stafford is he's under contract for a couple more years 22 and a half million dollar dead cap hit for the next couple seasons if he were to be traded do not think that he wants to leave Los Angeles and come to this team at this juncture after you know what he's been able to do in LA he's got his family out there I know the Rams are struggling but you know that that would be the that would be the player I guess I would call about I guess but you know financially doesn't make sense and situation wise doesn't make sense for Stafford to want to leave because he would be he would want to leave to go win a Super Bowl somewhere else if it was gonna you know like if it was oh it's my last season and I'm gonna leave LA you'd be you'd be leaving to go win a Super Bowl not to compete to win a bad NFC East and then hang them up you know what I mean let's see thank you for the support Joe as always hope you guys make sure you check out Joe whenever he's uh look go follow him on Instagram but whenever he does his stand-up comedy at Reds those comedy nights go check him out there at Reds down here at Carl Start right near the stadium near East Rutherford here Barbara says I'm petitioning the NFL to have all Giants game start at 1 p.m a great Barbara a great man some of these games like the Seattle game was was pretty fun to watch the Cowboys Thursday night game and this game against the Bengals oof not easy watches RJ says this team with the level of play Tyrod gave us last year would be a playoff team and with the top five quarterback in the league would be a deep playoff team Super Bowl contender that would be looking to add like three players I don't know about Super Bowl contender but I think RJ with a consistent offense that to me this is not just the quarterback it's also on the coach it's also on the play call it you know it's not just the quarterback to me it's on the whole offensive operation and the quarterback is a part of that for sure not defending anything there remember as we sit here and talk and keep this conversation rolling here on talking ball with Pat Leonard post game live from Giants bangles met like stadium 17 7 Cincinnati beats the Giants Giants get a special buy one get one free deal yeah RJ as far as tie rod quality I know what you're talking about there I mean you know tie rod definitely had the offense at times looking a lot different the operation looking a lot different right listen this is this is uh it's frustrating it's frustrating TJ philosophy says it's the quarterback A2 says thanks for finding the time and the spot to have these midnight post-game live streams Pat you got a day two I'm running on fumes man coach coach youth soccer and we had a 745 a.m. game on Sunday morning and now I'm here it is 1 25 a.m. Monday morning still rolling here on talking ball post game live I know we didn't have the midweek lives from week five to week six coming off the Seattle trip just a lot going on a lot of work for the daily news covering the giant stories I'm writing things I'm juggling and then we had you know we got the playoff baseball so we have different nights and that schedule shifting a little bit but we're going to make sure we keep getting these in first down with Benny Fowler is coming on Monday into Tuesday with me and the Super Bowl champion former NFL wide receiver breaking down of all the action Mike sees as Darius Slaton deserves way more love and appreciation I agree Mike see let's take time out to appreciate Darius again listen would you be surprised if by the end of this year Slaton didn't end up with that same you know nearly league nearly team leading you know that's 700 800 800 50 900 receiving yards you know whatever it is the 61 75 catches whatever he does every year he's mister consistent also in this game got twisted up tough on one catch goes off gets checked out comes back into the game runs one route defensive pass interference he draws in the end zone hits his head head goes in gets evaluated for a concussion gets cleared I asked him how he was doing coming out of those things and he basically said oh which which one I had a bunch of stuff happened to me tonight he said there was a lot of turmoil is how he described it that was a good word for it but yes Slaton deserves he's tough made some tough catches tonight including right off right at the start of the game on that first down some good coverage there made a nice nice catch and overall yes reliable and impressive player Barbara says it perfectly here she said this team takes one step forward and three steps backward no doubt collusion says the quarterback is holding the team back solving says who gets the biggest slice of blame and pie you know the Bengals decided to take the ball when they won the toss and the Giants defense was not ready for it they give up a 47 yard touchdown run to Joe Barrow that matched Barrow's career high for a game on one carry in his career it was also double more than double his previous career high on a running play his previous career high on a rush was 23 yards then he goes for 47 and a touchdown there optimal says the misthroat to Wandao Robinson wasn't infuriating for the past secures Daniel Jones has been everything but consistent 160 million dollars give me a break that was a yeah that was a bad miss no explanation for that one solving back to your biggest slice of blame pie I mean this game was definitely about the to me it was the head coach in the quarterback but you know the run the run blocking in the run game wasn't as good either just overall I mean you know there are games like the Seattle game where we see some parts of this roster panning out in a different way and some encouraging things like we just talked about Tyro Tracy Jr. Malik neighbors you know some guys who look special or look like they could be big pieces of this for a long time but there are also points where you look at this roster you know Tyler Neub and Aruki who make some good hits he's tough I really like him a lot I think he's a good leader but he's kind of learning on the job right now this is you know I think I think there are times where it feels like he's out of position I think that he's you know we talked to Jerome Henderson the defensive backs coach about it last week I think and he said that Neubin basically is almost too eager on certain plays to make a beeline whether it's to the ball or to a spot like he needs to kind of take a breath and read the play first and then go make the play I think you see some of that even on the Brown touchdown run at the end I mean DJ Davidson and Bobby O'Karrick both got washed out of the hole there but Neubin kind of like driving down on the play and kind of getting caught up in the wash instead of being the safety valve seemed like a lot of guys were not ready for that Joe Barrow run but you know he has a lot to work to work on there but you know the biggest slice of blame pie to me coach and quarterback tonight and offense as a whole. Play calling stunk says Jim and Daniel Jones can't move off his first read. Farris says can't pass against one of the worst back ends in the NFL couldn't run on Dallas a couple of weeks ago it hurts so bad I have to laugh. Yeah no very disappointing those are things you think you should be able to take advantage of that's why it's on the coach and scheme as well as the quarterback because that's on the coach. Collusion says Dabel and Shane have to start owning this Daniel Jones mistake and figure something else out this guy should not be playing. A2 says one step up two steps back the saga of Daniel Jones. Optimal says the defense did everything to keep the offense in this game Aziz looked great tonight Aziz did look great really happy for him. Barbara says losing is losing no medals for trying no doubt that's why we don't do the that's one thing we don't do here on talking ball post game live with Pat Leonard we do not do the oh this team should have won tonight if they only did XYZ there was one more play they had to make and if they made that they'd be four and one instead of vote one and four or four and two instead of two and four whatever we don't do that right that's this is a this is a league where games are up for grabs and a couple plays here and there mean the difference a lot of the times and the Giants aren't getting those plays in these games. Iconic says Pat are we getting to the point where we have to think about Ben Ching Jones you know I don't I don't think so I think he's their best option I think if you go to that too at stable I think if you go to that is stable how do you go back from that I almost think that's tables like that would be his last I think that would have to be Brian Dable's last ditch effort like once he makes that decision if and when he makes that decision I don't think he can come back from that like it it either works then or that's it you know if you if you do that that desperately I would think optimal says I'm taking 25 shots tonight am I cooked well tell us tomorrow killer camp says what's up Pat three more games until the bi-week are we looking at true lock before or after I would take after you know I would take after I mean you've seen some good football from Daniel Jones it hasn't been all that let's see hooks says that Andrew Thomas penalty was bad and untimely no dad and it was a legit penalty but the whole whole line wasn't good tonight right De Grant says the Giants just don't have enough talent on the offensive end Daniel Jones is not a starter collusion says it is what it is now we have six years of this with Daniel Jones some decent games and a whole lot of bad ones he's not good we know this not good enough he is what he is barber says I wouldn't call beating a Geno Smith team a big win it's not like it was against the Legion of Boom John says who had supreme confidence this is really overstating the DJ's performance in Seattle it was really average well John I I mean so as somebody who is always trying to present you know this in a fair and objective way as much as you know as much as I can as a professional I mean but you guys know that I'm more than ready and prepared and willing to criticize and be critical when it's time to but I also think people deserve praise and credit when they earned it and I'm not I'm not saying Daniel Jones had a an MVP level performance against Seattle last week that's not what I'm saying I'm just saying in the context of people asking me is it time to bench this guy after this game you know in Seattle he had 257 yards passing two touchdown passes plus the 38 yards rushing I thought that he made timely plays he was on target he was accurate he was tough he was leading the team and I thought the team kind of took its personality and its direction from him and I thought he deserved credit for that I know that he didn't play perfect I know they still almost lost the game I know that the offense at the end gave the ball back to the defense so I didn't I didn't mean to say that he was perfect or anything but I'm just saying when you go on the road and get that win and he plays that way there that was some of the takeaways of fans talking about like wait I see this from Daniel Jones now what does this mean you know this guy gonna be our quarterback next year too you draft one we can keep him as well you know he can he can still hold the fort you know who knows what happens the rest of this year because the division's bad right very different tone than after this game kind of flipping to it and saying you know you know what well I'm done with this guy you know now in fairness to you John and to others there are fans who even after the Seahawks game said hey I'm encouraged by this but I'm not you know not I'm not changing my mind I still I still feel like we need to get better here and you're you might might be and you're probably one of them if that's what you're saying here and that's totally fine obviously and I I agree with you that like let's not overreact week to week right but that that's kind of what I was saying there was like you know the determination coming into the season was that he was still their guy so after one good week one bad week these last couple couple like are you are you throwing in the towel yet you know the division the division is still within reach you know I think I think you have when you talk about Drew Locke and Daniel Jones and the quarterback position and when do you are you going to bench him because of the struggles especially at home to me like you have two division games coming up in the next four weeks I think right you have the Eagles and you have the commanders again coming up soon so I think you know if you if you lose those games right if you lose both of those games in division and now you're falling out of it you know that changes things I think if Daniel Jones starts scoring points at home and the Giants beat the Philadelphia Eagles next week for example and I know the Eagles aren't don't look like a very good team but I'm saying you beat it you beat an Eagles team like that at home and now we're having probably a different conversation right even though it might not look great but a win is a win you know so I think that our overriding point in this conversation is one that I don't disagree with which is that you know the product that you see with Daniel Jones at the helm and Brian Dable calling the plays out there on the field in these games like this it's not good enough it's not good enough and you guys pay a lot of money and spend a lot of time supporting and cheering for and watching this team so I totally understand and I opened this podcast by saying Daniel Jones came across to me post-game very frustrated and not he didn't explode he didn't snap or anything he's been feistier in press conferences before as you know but an edge year like he was after Seattle win but to me he came across after this game like somebody and I thought a lot of the players and Dable too they sounded like people who were searching for answers they did not have and I thought Dable or I thought Daniel Jones sounded this based on all these years of covering him and knowing him he sounded to me like he was very like extremely frustrated about their inability to get in the end zone and about understanding the stakes of the game you know yes one regular season game against the Cincinnati Bengals but this is a one and four Cincinnati Bengals team and they were mistake prone and very beatable tonight especially with the way the Giants defense was playing I think Daniel recognized how big of a missed opportunity this was both for the team what I was gonna say both for the team and the hit and for him but I think you know he listen he does it for the team he cares about the team that's what he's in it for but I think he recognized you know I don't think this is lost even on Daniel Jones how concerning this was Daniel thanks again for supporting me here with the Super Chat he says I think the defense is extra upset after tonight about the offense and Dable feel like there will be tension in the locker room yeah it's a good question I mean not seeing Dexter Lawrence in the locker room and Dexter Lawrence not doing an interview is interesting definitely makes you think about what's going on there what conversations happen there I think that's something worth pursuing and worth asking Cheers to fall at Whole Foods market with sales through October 29th select frozen pizzas are 50% off with prime so stock up and be ready for game day hosting a cozy dinner there's a sale on hearty no antibiotics ever beef chuck roast and stew meat or be the best guest ever and bring a robust bottle of Bordeaux wine or specialty cheese like humbault fog cheers to fall at Whole Foods market must be 21 or older please drink responsibly let's see collusion says the Giants will never be a high level team as long as he's cool oh wait let me let me go back to that for a second Daniel this would be the same thing all over again right if it was if the defense is upset with the offense we're right back where we started with Wink Martin Dale's defense right Brian Dable's offense Dable's offense can't score the defense can only hold so much that eventually you know it breaks their backs they start to wilt a little bit they start to get frustrated you know last year there was you know there were all the the kind of the finger pointing from dable to the coaching staff as well but this is kind of like you know if you have some of that if some of that starts up or crops up this is just same old Giants from last year if that comes up right collusion says the Giants will never be a high level team as long as he's the quarterback okay my ranting is done on Daniel Jones just frustrated with knowing this team has pieces and this guy's our quarterback Braden says hey Pat we talked months ago about careers in college hoping we can continue that soon sounds good Braden he says several missed opportunities tonight what would you highlight as the team's biggest missing piece for success biggest missing piece for success you know I do think it's hard not to look at Jaden Daniels for example and say oh man that would be nice right so that young elite developing quarterback I think is something that you could pinpoint but Braden I think that they're I think their leadership is questionable like I think that there are games like the Seattle game where dable has a really good game plan and he's giving them an advantage but even in Seattle it was the frustration on the sideline it was the end of half an end of game situations that they were just screwing up that they weren't ready for tonight it felt like some of the decisions were like fly by the cedar pants type stuff which is nothing different than some of the game management situational football issues that have plagued them you know especially last year you know I think I think their direction is in question I think that the coaching I think the head coach's management of the game is something that is missing like the overall game start to finish is missing as well as the QB but you know you need your high level players to play their best and you need strong depth as well so there's a lot of areas they need to improve on it's a good question Braden Giants management have way too much invested in Daniel Jones to turn back now all aboard says A2 barbers says the Giants aren't trying to win this year they're just trying to get through the season and make big changes it seems to me they are trying to win this year Barbara but you're right I think if they don't win this year there will be big changes iconic says Pat I feel just from the eye test that Jones is average at best I think we need a functional quarterback to get through this season Intel says we need a quarterback Alex says any word on benching Jones nothing NYOG says should we look at Drew Lock the defense is more than respectable held a very good offense in check I would keep Dable to the end of the year but after that yeah no I definitely think I've been saying this the whole time jobs are on the line resetting this whole thing is on the table depends on where it goes from here collusion says Dable owns some share but even read isn't going to win with a guy who went 2 for 8 on passes 10 plus and this is a trend outside of the Hawks game human being says DJ seems like he is a slight in a slightly different headspace at home I don't disagree with that human I think I definitely think the prep he feels the pressure differently here I think and I covered a Rangers team in the NHL years ago when they won the President's trophy so for the most points in the NHL in the regular season and they were not great at home but they were the best row team in the league and it was they just had an attitude about them as a team like they were way better when the crowd was against them and they were kind of us against the world backs against the wall we've all we got type of attitude and mindset and situation and environment then being in the tents Madison Square Garden where you know everything came difficultly and you know they had to work so much harder for their goals and you know close game at the end and everything got tense and it felt tense right they just reacted better to the nothing to lose loose on the road type thing and I have that I feel that similar type feeling with this Giants team but specifically with Daniel too like I think I think he doesn't I think he has thick skin and he reacts you know he fights back against the pressure and the expectations and the doubters and the critics and he's tough he's tough-minded but I do think that maybe I don't know maybe he does press a little bit here maybe he does think a little bit more when he's on this field about you know what if this goes wrong or maybe he's trying to force the plays that much more because he's really trying to make it happen right you know I definitely think at this point it's hard to it's hard to say that Daniel and the Giants aren't pressing when they're here NYOG says Giants fans with tickets are going to start selling them wouldn't surprise me I know some who started selling them after that Vikings game humans says fans lining up outside the stadium exit to boo Daniel Jones after the game probably did not have a positive effect on his performance yeah that's fair that's fair I think that's another good point you know players consents when they're not exactly wanted NYOG says how do we get a star quarterback that's gonna have to be in the draft most likely barbers says Baker Mayfield was available to sign before last season at a lower cost than Daniel and he's a legitimate NFL starter but he was deemed not good enough to be on the Giants yeah and the Giants the Giants they believe very much in the in the height weight speed measurables part of their scouting rubric and traditionally are not looking to secure undersized quarterbacks that's not their style but yes Baker Mayfield the Bucks had 51 points today so you know may want to reevaluate that one and I'm not the biggest Baker Mayfield fan either but obviously you know as we see now with Sam Darn a little bit too here in Minnesota it's like sometimes you know this is why I even said like Daniel Jones probably eventually will leave the Giants go somewhere else and do better so these first round talents are first round talents you know usually if they if you get them in the right situation you'll see that first round talent come out you know barbers at Drake May and JJ McCarthy were also deemed not good enough for the Giants who was good enough for them no Drake May they want to Drake May they just couldn't get them they like Jayden Daniels but they want to Drake May they just couldn't get up there barbers at Stafford is old I don't want him Joey B points out that it's after 1 a.m. we're almost at 2 a.m. I just he says I just got home thanks for the love and comedy shout out Pat let's get that planned together to watch Sunday games in Pittsburgh that sounds good yeah I'm going to Pittsburgh for the Monday night football game in two weeks and I'm getting there on Sunday probably going somewhere on Sunday night to watch the Monday night football game I believe it's a good Monday night football game that week it's or sorry Sunday night football Sunday night football that week is Cowboys at 49ers so that's Sunday October 27th in Pittsburgh Joey B and I'd probably find in the spot to to put a few back and watch the Cowboys Niners game so maybe we can call it an official talking ball with Pat Leonard meetup I don't know that might not be a bad idea for anybody going to the Steelers game that'd be fun Braden says this team varies so much week to week even with a large time of possession it feels as if Davos conservative play calling consistently puts the team in one place situations that result in losses Braden very good point I totally agree that is so well said he is conservative I do think it's because he protects the quarterback from self at times I think that's very well said I did the giant way to win is to keep things ugly and to it's almost like yes they want to be they want to be explosive but the way that they play and the way he coaches is to keep it ugly and grind it out and win does that make sense you said that very well great it's a great point Iconics says Pat what do you think this team would look like with Hendon Hooker Jalen Milro or can board a quarterback do you think the team would flow better I do think it could impact maybe Davos play calling for the quarterback and then that along with the quarterback's talent could help open things up Hooker looks it looks like an encouraging player but he's also developmental one and these these guys coming out next year would be young developmental guys who even if they were exciting I think there would be growth and and growing pains I do think though you know you'd have to hope iconic that not just increased talent necessarily but also I think that talent you would hope would help the play call or whether it was able or somebody else would get more aggressive and open up the offense more and trust the quarterback more although like I said there were several throws tonight that Daniel missed that was it wasn't no one trusting him it was just him missing the throw don't know when it's gonna be lock time I don't think yet Franklin that wasn't on my mind coming out of this game despite the disappointment Franklin says why is pinock starting remember I asked you this earlier in the year belton is a better player um pinock's a better blin series a good athlete um belton's a guy that's good on the ball um at times has had lapses in coverage breakdowns I think they trust pinock more to not have those breakdowns but um you know listen they want to play their own draft picks any chance they get so if they're not playing one it shows you that they feel that that player has a way to go um I think you know there have been times where they've used dane in certain situations and it's cost them usually in passing situations he has shown an ability to turn the football over he did that ecology has been able to do that um in the pros at times uh but pinock pinock frankly is just he's a better blitzer and a better all-around athlete so they use him um especially as a you know rushing the passer that's why he has three sacks so far let's see bill says burns interview was funny he says it was questionable what he really meant was I was held a hundred percent of the time and they didn't call it I thought it was interesting I got to go look back at this but it looked to me like burns burns has rushed a lot um on the left side on the right tackle this season he was he was often on the left tackle on the right side uh tonight in this game and it you know it uh paid off it you know in several cases killer camp says I get not benching him big dash what's up he says awful showing an offense no doubt collusion says good point with the whole defense thing this year and last definitely something to that yep Visager says there was a discussion about the Giants being a quarterback away last year and how they were not now I'm not so sure I think with Josh Allen they are five and one oh they're turning the lights out on us here we're gonna have to get going here soon yeah they were never a quarterback away for this season Visager says hi Pat how are you oh so the saga you think they're five and one with Josh Allen well well Josh Allen's also a top three NFL quarterback I mean top two NFL quarterback you know I mean to say to say you're a Josh Allen away I mean Visager you could almost set you could almost argue every NFL team is Josh Allen away from being like somewhat good you know what I mean if not okay you're good um I think the bigger question would be like take like take CJ Stroud out take my homes out take Josh Allen out take those guys out um what if you put I don't know what if you put Dak Prescott or jail and Hertz or uh Justin Herbert or Bo Nix or you know Trevor Lawrence Jordan Love you know Sam Darnold or the Giants uh one quarterback away of those are the quarterbacks right hey Visager what's going on he says here we go again let's win five to seven games so we can get a mid-round pick again and not try for the franchise quarterback right Mara likes to see the same movie over and over again I know it's infuriating has to be it's infuriating for him yes Dee points out that Drake May was drafted before the Giants had a chance to right they tried to trade up to number three to get him but they couldn't get up there with the Patriots obviously they had eyes on Jayden Daniels as well but he was never getting to them and everybody do it Visager's Giants fans need to stay away and let Mara see the stadium empty that will happen if the losses and the lack of offense continues Braden says in the Vikings wildcard win Davis aggressive play calling enabled Daniel to play loosely and confidently ultimately resolving a high-level play how did the Giants even come close to that again you saw some of that in the second half with that touchdown drive going for the two fourth downs um and you know I think that aggressiveness when Dable is aggressive I think that is his truest self as a play caller so I do think he needs to lean into that you don't want to be reckless though you want to have a plan behind it you don't want to just be reactionary in the moment but think back to that first game in Tennessee in his first season when he won coach of the year they went to the playoffs that year the playoff game that was the Brian Dable that you need that you want um but again that's a good example too in that playoff game in Philadelphia he desperately at fourth and eight around midfield goes for a fourth down you know I don't know if in his mind he's thinking oh yeah I'm gonna be aggressive but you're also being too desperate and you're indicating that you feel like down seven nothing you have to get this or else you don't get it the Eagles go right down score make it 14 nothing and the game's over before you're in the second quarter so I'm gonna be aggressive but not so desperate that you're reckless. Franklin says at the end of the season to keep his job Dable will have to put all the blame on Daniel Jones but I'm not sure he'll win with a rookie instantly next year either I don't know how this works for either I think there's still a very good chance at high rate of and significant changes with this Giants organization if this doesn't turn around because this is not good enough and it's hard for me to believe that you can separate this quarterback from this regime because they did resign him to that contract D kit Daniel Joe Joey B thank you guys for your super chats during this chat
