Welcome to the Professional Podcast Network, where brilliance meets business, elevate your brand, and supercharge your revenue with inspiring insights and innovation. Either everyone and welcome back to the show. This is your host Phil, and our next guest here today is Audrey Matlock, who is based out of New York City with her business called Audrey Matlock Architect, how you doing today? Doing well. Thank you. Ah, you're very welcome. So Audrey, tell us a little bit more here about yourself and what services you provide to people. Yes, we are a multidisciplinary firm of about a dozen people who are based in New York. We offer architectural, interior design, and landscape design services. A project based is international with projects in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and recently Africa, and a project consists of a range of building types including cultural, exhibition, commercial and residential, recreation, and multi-use. All right, how long have you been in business for with all this? 30 years, excellent. So it sounds like you guys cover a few different options here for people, so when they like reach out to you, is it always like basically a different plan or strategy, I guess? I guess, yes, and who it is, yes, of course. Okay, so is it some people that want like a brand new structure built or like just a redesign? Like it could be anything really, right? It could be. I mean, sometimes they're planning projects, large, like urban planning projects, or sometimes they are building, sometimes they're renovation, yeah, and sometimes they're interior projects. Gotcha, okay. And what was it that kind of led you down this whole career path here? What got you started with this? Do you want me to describe my business or how do you want me to go? I mean, how you kind of entered the field of like architecture, like what got you inspired to do all this? Well, I guess looking back, every life choice I made was leading me towards architecture. As a child, my greatest passions were art and building, and when my parents renovated our cottage in the Finger Lakes, I recycled the discarded materials to build sculptures, a real sailboat, a go-kart, and a tree fort, and went on to study art and college where I collaborated with engineers to create interactive environments that, greatly, were supported by grants. After college, I moved to San Francisco to seek a job at the Exploratorium. I don't know if you know of them. Exploratorium was the world's first interactive science museum created by the physicist Frank Oppenheimer. So Frank hired me to design and build large-scale exhibits and structures, and over the next two years it became apparent to me that I needed to mesh my love of art and science. And with Frank's encouragement, I left San Francisco and rolled in the Graduate Architecture Program at Yale, and I had never looked back. All right, there you go. So Audrey, is there anything else here that you want our listeners to know about you guys? Anything else you want to tell us here? Well, maybe I could tell you a little something about our business. Sure. An important distinction of my firm is that we practice out of a storefront building in New York City's Tribeca neighborhood. Adores to our gallery-like office days are always open to anyone interested in seeing what we do or those just looking for professional advice. This location has broadened our connections with neighbors, local biz owners, developers, and tourists, and helped enlighten us to our cultural fabric. Another, I think, distinction is our multi-disciplinary practice model. This supports our belief that every building is synonymous with its landscape. Every interior space is designed by architecture, and every material has structural, environmental, and aesthetic importance. We design at every scale, from landscapes to buildings to furniture, broad view of design ensures our clients, aesthetically and functionally, holistic design, one tuned to their individual needs and to the building's unique context, topography, and climate. All right. Good to know. So Audrey, if we want to reach out to you guys there or find out some more information about what you're doing, how do we contact you? You can contact me through my e-mail, the matlock@audrymatlock.com. Also through our website, AudreyMatlock.com, or if you wanted to write to us, you could contact us at 141 West Broadway, New York, New York, 10013, or call 917-251-4944, call me directly. All right.
