A. P. News. Good morning. I'm Ed Donohue. Special counsel Robert Her is testifying on Capitol Hill about the classified documents that were in President Biden's possession that date back to his time as Vice President Jim Jordan is chair of the House Judiciary Committee. Joe Biden broke the law. But because he's a forgetful old man who would appear sympathetic to a jury, Mr. Her chose not to bring charges. The committee heard earlier comments about it from the president. I take responsibility for not having seen exactly what my staff was doing. Robert Her explained why the president will not face criminal charges for his handling of sensitive government information. We did not, however, identify evidence that rose to the level of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Because the evidence fell short of that standard, I declined to recommend criminal charges against Mr. Biden. In the report, Her questioned the president's age and competence, but says he also didn't disparage him unfairly. Consumer prices ticked up last month. The A.P. Shelly Adler has the story. Despite February's elevated figures, most economists, including Gus Fochay with PNC Financial Services Group, expect inflation to continue slowly declining this year. This was kind of a disappointing report, but we have had good inflation numbers recently, and I would expect that we will see inflation slow further over the course of 2024. As for the Federal Reserve, which meets next week, their concern that inflation is still running a little too hot. I also think it makes it less likely that the Fed will be cutting rates when they meet in May. Overall, inflation is plummeted from a peak of 9.1% in June of 2022, although it's now easing more slowly than it did last spring and summer. I'm Shelly Adler. They are back at home. Four astronauts from four countries caught a lift back to Earth with SpaceX, ending a half-year mission at the International Space Station. They landed off the Florida coast. This is A.P. News. I'm Seth Thutel, and this is Markets in a Minute. Stocks are bouncing around in early trading following the latest update on inflation. The S&P 500 shook off some early weakness, and was up for 10% after the first hour of trading Tuesday. The benchmark index is slightly below the all-time high it set last week. The Dow rose 60 points. It's about 2-10%. The Nasdaq composite was up half a percent. The highly anticipated inflation report said prices paid by US consumers last month rose a bit more than economists had expected. That kept the door closed on hopes that the Federal Reserve might cut interest rates next week, but investors are still hoping to get a rate cut in the second half of the year. Southwest Airlines sank after saying it would reduce capacity because of fewer aircraft deliveries from Boeing. Seth Thutel, New York. A man visiting the Florida Everglades is recovering after being bitten by a crocodile after falling off a boat. The man capsized his sailboat in the marina basin. I'm Ed Donahue, AP News.
