How are you going? How are you doing? What did you do? Baby? You know that banger repeat by now. You know that is the theme song, the intro. Just the beginning of the college football function. You know the voice by now, right? It is CM. It is CM Funk. It is the black sheep of the family. It is the host that knows the most about that NC double a college football action. Maybe it's CM, your friend, your enemy. You hate me, you love me. Either way, I'm on your mind here with another episode of the college football function, baby. It is March 11th, 2024. I told you guys I'd be back. I am back. I hope you listened to the last one of the last shows that the football function just put out the NFL guys. I did a show with, of course, Mr. Mike Ritter and Howard Poole. We talked about the AFC North. Like I said on the show, I said I'd be back. I'm going to talk a little Heisman, talk about a little bit of history, some of the great men that have won that award. I'm going to talk a little bit about that. Of course, at the end of the show, I'm going to give my take on the whole Johnny Manziel, what he said not too long ago, about Reggie Bush and Reggie Bush being his Heisman, not technically his. He had been vacated due to what he did. We'll talk a little bit about that towards the end of the show. But like I said, I was just on the regular football function. Hope you guys go back and listen to it. It was a banger of an episode. Talk to AFC North. It's always a great time. I'm talking with Mr. Ritter and, of course, Mr. Howard Poole. Great time going, listening to that. I hope you guys are staying up to date with all these episodes, you know, the off-season outlook series. You know, the division breakdowns and, you know, with all the free agency stuff going on too right now, people getting signed, people getting dropped, people are getting requests for trades. The NFL, the crazy time is like right after Super Bowl. And then, of course, to the draft. There's just, you know, bodies going everywhere. Money is getting flung. People want to go to other teams, so on and so forth. It's a crazy time. And then you got the draft process, which I am still working on. You know, like I said in one of my last shows, I'm getting so deep. I'm getting really, really deep in depth with this draft process, you know, going position by position. Like I said before, I want to find the diamonds in the rough. Of course, everybody knows Caleb Williams and, you know, Marvin Harrison Jr., you guys like Terry and Arnold. You know, some of these other guys, I want to find the Puka Nakuas. I want to find, you know, the next, you know, fourth to fifth round guy. It just happens to fall to the right team, the right scheme, you know, the right coaching staff. And just goes balls to the wall, you know, wins Rookie of the Year, so on and so forth. Like I said, you know, I know CJ Stroud won Rookie of the Year. You know, it's typically a quarterback, you know, winning award. But I think Puka Nakuas should have won that award last year. Just to believe he was better earlier, I guess. And then, but like I said, the quarterbacks to face of the franchise and of the NFL. So, you know, of course, they're going to get a lot more, you know, love and more awards than probably not going to say that they deserve, but probably just, I don't know. I'm not going to talk about that. We're not getting into that. Like I said, we're talking Heisman. This is the outstanding performance, which best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability ability, sorry, combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. That's just, you know, what they classify the Heisman that's their little small, little, you know, paragraph of what describes a Heisman winner. It is just the MVP of NCAA who had the best year, statistically, who had, you know, was the just the best player doesn't necessarily have to be on the best team. You know, that is definitely something that we learned last year with Mr. Jalen Daniels out of LSU, the quarterback. LSU, I think only, I think they lost three or four games this year, you know, at least three, I want to think, but, you know, he just statistically was great, you know, had a great year, tossed in the ball, so on and so forth. But, like I said, it's a very prestigious trophy, you know, you can say you're a Heisman winner and you can go to any restaurant, any, you know, mall and people are going to know who you are just because you won the Heisman. 1935 was the very first Heisman was given out, it was given out to Jay Burwanger, so there's you a little trivia question, you never know when you're on a, you know, game show or someone on the radio or something wants to say who won the very first Heisman. You can say Jay Burwanger, the running back for the Chicago Maroons, by the way, the University of Chicago, that's what they ended up turning into I'm not even sure the University of Chicago is still even around so 1935 is when they started giving this, you know, award out. Of course, the last one, of course, 2023, Jane Daniels quarterback at LSU so, you know, here in about 22 years, there's going to be, it's going to be 100, you know, the Heisman have been around for 100 years so definitely prestigious like I said it's one of my favorite trophies. It was designed by sculptor Frank, a Lisku, and it's modeled after Ed Smith in 1934, you know, the Heisman pose everybody knows the Heisman pose you know you got the one arm holding the ball one harm stiff arming while the one you got the left knee up everybody knows the Heisman pose you tell somebody to do the Heisman pose. Everybody knows what it is. Like I said, modeled after Ed Smith, a player in 1934 for New York University. It's made in cast and bronze. It is 13 and a half inches tall, 14 inches long, 16 inches in width and weighs 45 pounds so it's a super heavy trophy but everybody very cliche everybody says that when you're holding it up. It doesn't feel like 45 pounds, you know, it's the lightest and heaviest trophy ever to be given out, you know, because you know when you're on cloud nine when your adrenaline's going you're you're just, you know, the the epitome of just success. The trophy weighs nothing, you know, it's it's very, very cliche but it is very true. Like I said 45 pounds is very heavy but when you win the most coveted award in college football. It's, of course, weightless USC has the most, you know, Heisman trophies to their university with eight, not very much, you know, they're coming up on, you know, 90 years and USC is only one eight, you know, it's definitely been bounced around a lot. The three teams tied for a second, Ohio State, the Buckeyes, the Oklahoma Sooners, and the Notre Dame fighting Irish, all tied with seven. The largest margin of victory ever was, you know, not too long ago, everybody knows his name by now Joey burrow and 2019 the LSU quarterback just blew the water, you know, blew the doors open, you know, on that. Had 90 something percent of the total votes, you know, he had 90 something percent of first place votes. And that's what it comes down to the. I've never really understood the scoring process how it does, because it's got first, second, third, and fourth and, you know, some, some people have more, you know, I know it's not very complicated, but, you know, when you have previous highest and winners voting, you know, you got journalists voting, and I do believe that they have like an online vote, but it doesn't accumulate much percentage of the total vote. But that Joey burrow was just the best player that year, you know, period, he was killing it in that LSU offense, you know, of course going undefeated when the national championship that year. And there was a no brainer that Joey burrow is the best, you know, player on the best team, you know, that that was the actual, you know, when you think about it. The Heisman winner sometimes comes from the national championship winning team and undefeated team, but it also he can also come from a three loss LSU team like last year. Like I said, it's, it's very interesting. It doesn't have to be best player on the best team. It's just who just stood out who had their best year who was just you take that person off that team and they probably wouldn't win a game. You know, that's just kind of what it comes down to. Like I said, larger margin of victory, one of the biggest blowouts in Heisman ever. I think, you know, everybody was watching that ceremony that year and I think everybody, but Joe burrow knew that Joe burrow was going to win that Heisman that year. Nobody else was on his level that year. One of the greatest college players of all time. And, you know, he's doing his thing in the NFL and second level, everybody knows. One of the closest margin of victories ever came back in 2009. Mark Ingram, the running back over Bama over Toby Gerhart. There's a name, haven't heard in a while, the running back out of Stanford. That was the closest margin of victory ever. So, like I said, sometimes the numbers get a little jumbled and you know, it has to take a little bit more math to math, you know. So, to who gets to hold up that 45 pound trophy, but I remember that year quite fondly. There are some years that are better than others. You know, there's some years where you have four or five just great players all sitting next to each other, you know, elbow to elbow, shoulder to shoulder and, you know, just, you don't know who's going to win. But like I said, you don't have your times where you know who's going to win as well. But Toby Gerhart, you know, whatever happened to that guy, he goes from finishing second to the Heisman and I don't know what happened to him afterwards. I don't know if you, he probably did try NFL. Not really sure. But, or it's the guy now, you know, last time I checked, everybody knows who Mark Ingram is now, but it was to say if the roles were reversed, you know, nobody would know who Mark Ingram is. But, you know, like I said, it's all hearsay. It's all just kind of just interesting things I think about. Judy was boring. Hello. Then, Judy discovered Chumba Casino.com. It's my little escape. Anyway, 10 Heisman winners are pro football Hall of Famers. A lot of them are the same ones that you probably know. Guys like Charles Woodson. We're going to go in depth about that one. If you want to look that up, you're more than welcome to. 1938. These are just some of the Heisman winners that stuck out to me or have relevance or just some of my favorite players. To be honest, let's go back in time. 1938. Davey O'Brien, the quarterback for TCU. One, the highest man I know everybody knows. The Davey O'Brien trophy is awarded at the end of the year to the best quarterback in the league. Definitely something I heard about the college football game coming out in July, you know, college football 2025. They're not going to do that. They're not going to have the Davey O'Brien Award or the Outland and Remington. They're not going to do that because I think they have to pay those people that those trophies were named after. They're probably going to have to pay those people and they probably wanted a pretty penny. They're just going to give the best quarterback award to whoever it is in the game. They're just not going to call it the Davey O'Brien Award and so on and so forth. That guy, like I said, quarterback for TCU back in 1938 is why the best quarterback in the league and in the land gets that trophy at the end of the year during college award season. 1939. Now, Kinnick, name sounds familiar. You will probably know that. He was a half back slash quarterback for Iowa. The name Kinnick, you should know that is what their stadium is named after. Mr. Now, Kinnick won the Heisman back in 1939. And they said, well, thank you, Mr. Kinnick. We will name our stadium after you. So definitely, I did not know that. Like I said, I like to learn stuff every single day. You know, I think you should learn every single day. If you're not learning every single day, you're standing still and if you're standing still, you might as well have concrete on your shoes because you ain't going nowhere. 1948. Doke Walker, the half back for SMU. And as you probably know, the Doke Walker award is, of course, given to the best half back slash running back in college football at the end of the year. Like I said, going to do away with that in the college game, but it's nice to know in 1948. Doke Walker, the running back for SMU won the Heisman and has a award named after him. 1963, Roger Staubach became, you know, a college football god that year. He played for Navy the quarterback. Of course, you know, he had a great, you know, college career. And then he turned around and had a very good NFL career as well. And also came from a military academy. 1966. Steve Spurrier, quarterback for the Florida Gators. Everybody knows the old ball coach, you know, the guy who really first started wearing visors on the sidelines. You know, he coached the Gators back in the day. He coached the South Carolina game clock as well. He even won a couple of national championships, if I'm doing mistaken. But, you know, he turned around, got himself a Heisman. He is definitely in college football lore. 1968, big year, O.J. Simpson, the half back for the U.S.E. Trojans, win, wins, won the Heisman. And of course, you know, had a illustrious, you know, NFL career. Everybody thinks about what he did or didn't do. Now you think of Ford Bronco, you type, you know, you just happen to think about O.J. Simpson. But he was a stud at USC. He was very deserving of a top. You know, I'm pretty sure he got drafted number one overall. Couldn't tell you. I'm not going to say it. I'm not going to put it in stone. But, you know, had a great career in the second level as well. But he was something else that you would see look up some of the old O.J. Simpson highlights back at USC. 74 and 75 definitely are huge years. Archie Griffin, of course, he running back for Ohio State, winning back-to-back Heisman's. I don't think this is ever going to be touched. I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's hard enough to win one and it's damn near impossible to win two. And no one will ever do it again. Just because of the Wake College football is now. I know Caleb Williams had a shot this year. But that pressure, man, you know, USC has the limelight on them all year. Everybody else with Caleb Williams is, you know, going into this 2023 season and it's just damn near impossible. And I really don't ever think it's ever going to happen again. We're going to have to wait until at least 2025, 2026 because Jayden Daniels is going into the pros this year. So we have to have somebody win one before they can win two. So, and, you know, in college football, you really only have to play two years. So I don't ever see anybody ever winning back-to-back Heisman. So 1974, 1975, Archie Griffin, Ohio State, Halfback, that's when you should know that was the back-to-back Heisman winner back in those years. 1976, Tony Dorsett, another great player running back out of Pittsburgh, ended up having a pretty good NFL career, just being modest right there, just being silly. But, yeah, great player, looking up some of his highlights. He was a great player in college as well. 77, one of the greatest running backs ever. I put him in the top 10, easy. And this is Earl Campbell, down here in Texas, down in Austin, running back, just seriously one of the best athletes I've ever seen. You know, he turned, you know, a Texas program into a powerhouse. I mean, he really did. He was a hell of a quarter of, sorry, running back. And, you know, he had a pretty good NFL career as well. And from what I hear anybody that's ever met, Earl Campbell, and there's been a lot of people because he's very predominantly in Texas. You go down certain parts of Texas and you might run into him and he'll shake your hand and, you know, he'll have, he'll give you stories. I've heard so many good things from a lot of people that I said they have met him and he is a genuinely great guy. So, big ups to Mr. Earl Campbell, running back from Texas back in 1977 when in the Heisman. '82, Mr. Georgia, I can't think of Georgia and not think about Herschel Walker running back that year. He was phenomenal. He really was. Look up some of his old highlights back in '82, Georgia. Herschel Walker was the man. '84. Doug Flootie, man. Come on, man. Quarterback from B.C. had one of the greatest plays of all time, one of the greatest innings of all time. But go and look at some of his numbers. The guy was flinging the ball all over the place. And the dude's like 5'10, 5'11. You know, he's, I don't even think he's 6'foot. He's a little guy. He was out there playing with monsters and just flinging the ball left and right. And he won the Heisman that year back in '84. '85, one of the greatest athletes of all time. And Bo Jackson, '85, man. They're running back from Auburn. Just phenomenal, man. This guy, you wanted to be Bo. You really did. You wanted to be Bo Jackson. I know he's a little bit before my time. I was only born just a few years after, you know, that '85 year. But everybody knows Bo Jackson, man. Just because he dominated in multiple sports. You know, he was amazing at Auburn. He was amazing in Oakland. And Los Angeles Raiders, where are these Los Angeles at one point in time? I don't know. I'm not real sure. I'm sorry. But everybody knows he played baseball too, you know, for the Kansas City rules. You know, one of the only persons to ever, you know, break a, the barrel of a wooden bat on his thigh. Like, I mean, come on. You did it on his head. You scaled a wall. Just was one of the biggest freaks of all time. And I like you hear the word "freak." You think of something bad, right? You know, someone with a fucking hand growing out of their ear. Or, you know, someone with, you know, an 18 inch, you know, pecker. That's when you think of a freak. No, freak is a good thing. You know, freak is just, you're just completely out there. And you're just a sight to see. And that's not always a bad thing. Bo Jackson was a freak and an athlete and just a complete baller, man. You cannot talk enough about Bo Jackson. 88, Barry Sanders, of course, one of the greatest, you know, college football players of all time. Pro, you know, had a very short career, but he did his thing in Oklahoma State. Like I said, back in 88, just, just the baller. One of the best running guys of all time. Easy. 91, Desmond Howard, you know, if you watch called Game Day, he's been on that panel for a long time. 91, he was a wide receiver slash punt returner. Dude was doing his thing. Just the ball got in his hands. He made magic happen, of course, from the University of Michigan, a Wolverine. One of the most interesting Heisman's of all time. Here it is. It could be another trivia question. Someone says in 1992, who won the Heisman that year. The name Gino Taretta, the quarterback for Miami won the Heisman that year. It shows you you win the Heisman and that could be the highlight of your life. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Not saying that at all. But sometimes that's it. I don't even know Gino Taretta. I know 92, I was four or five years old, but I don't know that name. Miami must have had a great year. He must have put up super duper numbers. But the name Gino Taretta, out of all these names that I've been listing, everybody knows who those people are. Just because, you know, they went on to second level or, you know, play baseball. You know, like I just said, there's just so many great things that all these guys have accumulated. Gino Taretta, this was it. This was the highlight of his life. And I know if you probably would have interviewed him, you know, in 1992 after the Heisman trophy and said, "Hey, how does it feel for this to be the highlight of your life?" He'd probably take it. But nowadays, if you give somebody Heisman and say, "Hey, this is as best as it gets," it would kind of feel bad. It would kind of feel like a loser. You know, and I know saying winning the Heisman, you know, you'd be a loser. That's not it. You win the Heisman to go on to the next level. You know, you go to be a top, you know, 10 draft pick. You go to make a franchise and to prevalence. You know, you want to win a Super Bowl ring. You want to be a Heisman winner and a Super Bowl winning quarterback, a Super Bowl winning wide receivers, a Super Bowl winning running back. So you can say, "Hey, I have a Heisman and a Super Bowl trophy." And if you can win a MVP as well, you know, that's the trifecta. You know, you were just a college football. I mean, just a football God in general. So like I said, 92, Gino Taretta, quarterback from Miami, could be a tribute question one day for sure. 97, Charles Woodson, cornerback at a Michigan. Another great, great player. Defensive, just straight up, cornerback. And the best player that year, absolutely. Dude was a baller. Definitely on that list of 10 of Heisman winners and is a Hall of Famer. He's got a Super Bowl ring as well. Charles Woodson. And from what I see, how he holds himself, that's just another thing about Heisman winners. It's not just about the trophy. You represent your school. You represent your game. You want to be an upstanding citizen. You just don't want to be a great player on the field. They give this to people that they feel like they're a great human being as well. You know, maybe the OJ Simpson thing is a little off right about now. And even Johnny Manziel, but that's not for me to judge. They just don't give it to one of the greatest players that year. They want to give it to a great man as well. Kind of like the Man of the Year award, like in the NFL. The Heisman kind of comes with its own expectations and goals and, you know, ability to be great. You know, they want great men to hold that trophy at the end of the day. You know, 98, great year, big year, definitely when I'm pretty sure that's what I had already been playing football for a few years. But another one of the greatest players of all time, Ricky Williams running back for Texas, ran away with that trophy that year. I feel just one of the best players of all time and look at some of his Texas Tate man. Some of his highlights, he was just a beast man, like he really was. And he turned around and had a really good, you know, pro career as well. Like I said, if he just would have put the bomb down a little bit more. But I actually like him a little bit more because he spoke to the vitamins, you know what I'm saying? Because, you know, it's sometimes it's hard to function. Sometimes it's hard to think, but he was a high functioning, you know, high society member. But with the lack of days of gold, I guess drug, you know, enforcement nowadays in the NFL because, you know, it's legal. In some places, you know, I guess he was just born a little too soon. But great player, like I said, 98 Ricky Williams running back from Texas. Just another interesting one back in 2006 off the top of your head. Who won the Heisman that year? I'll give you a second. Troy Smith, the quarterback for Ohio State won that year. Definitely another one of those weird years that you hear the name Troy Smith. Don't be my own. There's probably a lot of people out there who know. And if you know the name Troy Smith, much power to you, of course, I know who Troy Smith is. That was back when, actually, before this, when I started rooting for Ohio State, being my second favorite team. But he, it was just a weird year. Nobody really stood out. But I guess he had the best year between the other four, you know, nominees. Like I said, Troy Smith, the quarterback for Ohio State. Last time I checked, I think he did go to Baltimore. I know he played for Baltimore for a little while, but like I said, it just didn't pan out for him. He just wasn't a pro quarterback. But at the same time, he's got a Heisman. I don't, I'm not judging. I'm not saying anything bad about any player that didn't quite, you know, live up to the hype going into the next level. Because there was definitely a whole lot of them, for sure. Another one, 2007. Tim Tebow, man. Quarterback/halfback for the Florida Gators, man. Just one of the greatest players of all time. Greatest leaders of all time. When I think Ohio's going to think of upstanding citizens, I think of just a great man, a leader. Not just, you know, putting up the stats, just someone you would want to lead you into battle. And I think of that, I think of Tim Tebow, man. He was a leader, definitely not a follower. He would take on a hundred people by himself if he had to. He was just kind of one of those guys. And you could just see the love and just the pure love that he had for this game back in those couple years. Back when he played for Florida, he was just, like I said, I'm sure he's a great man too as well. 2011, another big year, RG3, the quarterback for Baylor wins that Heisman's great year. Just definitely a changing of the guard you saw around that year in multiple quarterbacks. You know, I know Tim Tebow was, you know, a couple years before that and even Troy Smith. But the game was just slowly starting to change in the late '90s, early 2000s. And I think this is when the NFL game, the college game really turned into a, I don't have to just stand here, stay in the pocket and, you know, throw dives. I can run. I can run for a thousand yards and throw for four. You know, I'll run for 10 touchdowns and throw for 40. You know, RG3 really changed the game. A lot of people don't give him the credit that he deserves for winning that Heisman at Baylor that year in 2011. With Lucky Land Slots, you can get lucky just about anywhere. Nearly beloved. Johnny Menzel did the same thing. You know, he liked to scramble. He liked to improvise. Definitely, like I said, a changing of the guard. Those guys that like to throw off cubes. You know, a little sidearm action. A little this, a little that. Like I said, change the game. Johnny Menzel, quarterback Alabama. Oh, I'm sorry. Oh, sorry. I can't believe I did that. I am so sorry. A and M back in 2012. 2015, kind of like 2019. What are the most dominant performances I've ever seen? And that is Derrick Henry. They're running back for Bama. He touched the ball. I don't know, 30 times a game. I mean, this guy was scary. A lot of people can remember back in your playing days, whether it be youth football, junior high, high school. I think everybody on that played football had a freak on their team. Whether it be a tackle. Whether it be a wide receiver. You were like 13, 14 years old and there was a guy on your team that was 6'4. And could run a 4, 4, 40. You know, and you put him at wide receiver. This is a guy that played called football that was 6-something and weighed almost, I don't even know how much you weighed. 2-80, maybe 270? Hell, I don't know, but he was a running back. Dude was just tower. He was as big as a lineman man and was fast galloped. He would plow over you. Just saw one of the best plays off the top of my head. Derrick Henry was playing Wisconsin one year. And Derrick Henry got enough speed, hit a hole, plowed into his linebacker by the way. A linebacker at Wisconsin. A prestigious, prestigious, you know, position at that school. Completely annihilated this linebacker. The linebacker gets up. Doesn't know where he's at. I mean, he's fucked. I mean, bells ringing birds, chirping stars or stars, promise you he was out on his feet. He ends up going to the Alabama huddle. And like I said, the lights on, but nobody was home. And he did that a lot to a lot of people, man. This dude was just, like I said, a freak. And I do not mean it insulting at all. In 2016, Lamar Jackson, of course, the back-to-back reigning MVP, or not back-to-back. But he's got a bunch of MVPs now. You know, he won the Heisman back in 2016 for Louisville. You know, another guy. That's, like you said, a couple, four or five years before that, changing to the guard, the scrambling, the multifaceted quarterbacks. And a lot of them turned into pretty good, you know, NFL players. Of course, 2017, 2018. Oklahoma run the game, winning back-to-back Heisman's with, of course, Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray set the game on fire, you know, turn them into top overall picks. Baker Mayfield, of course, kind of had his fizzledness, kind of brash, kind of one of those guys that kind of rubbed you the wrong way. Definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Just because he kind of ditched Texas Tech, you know, he was supposed to come to Texas Tech and then, you know, transfer in Oklahoma. Went into Heisman. I'm not bitter about it. We got Patrick Mahomes. I think we won that trade that year. Kyler Murray, jury's still out. I still think he has so much to prove. And he's got probably more talent in his pinky than you and me combined. Definitely one of the greatest Texas high school players of all time. They'll show you. I don't think he ever lost the game. State champs, for sure, but still got a lot to prove. And I still think he can get better. Arizona just needs some more people around him. You know, he can't do it himself. And nobody can look at Kam Newton's, you know, tenure at Carolina. You know, he had to do a lot of that by himself and look where that got him. He got him retired. He got him an MVP, but didn't get him a ring. And then of course, 2022, Caleb Williams, the quarterback out of USC. What I'm hearing is the first overall pick coming up in the little over a month. I'm hearing Chicago is not fielding calls for that pick. They said we'll only answer our phone if it's going to be about Justin Fields. I think it's a mistake. Do I believe he's going to be to Marcus Russell or Ryan Leaf? Absolutely not. Does the guy check every single box talent wise arm wise? Yes, but I've just talked about this enough. I don't like what's between his ears. I do not like him as a person. He rubbed me the wrong way. And if there's something that I've learned between being a young man and the man I am is you always trust your gut. If your gut tells you something's not right or something's going to go wrong or something bad is going to happen, it's like your spider sense. You need to learn to listen to it and believe it. And I've had that feeling about this guy for a long time. And just everything he's done, even when he did at USC, they would lose. And he went on to talk to the media. That's character. You're not a leader. You're not the man I think you are. And then the whole thing he did with the combine, he's not going to throw all my going to do interviews. I get it. I get some of it. But at the same time, dude, I don't know. But then again, I kind of thought maybe he was a genius. But maybe he didn't want to put so much out there to make Chicago make it a no brain or to draft him that one. And then what I'm hearing, what I did here back in the day about whoever drafts him, he wants capital. He wants a percentage claim on what he's going to bring to that franchise. I don't like that about. I do not like that about him. Does he deserve it? Absolutely. But you don't demand that and you're not even a Chicago bear yet. You're not even a Tennessee Titan. You're not an Arizona Cardinal. And you're wanting steak. How do you think these veterans in their locker room, those 10 year guys are looking at a guy like him going, this dude already thinks this shit don't stink. And I have to play with him. And I like it here. You know, I was like, I've been here for 19 years and I have to play with this dude. Yeah, you're going to have to try to fix him. And a lot of people and a lot of teams are really going to have to and they're going to try. I just don't know if it's even worth it. I wouldn't pick him at number one. Like I said, I love his arm. I love his talent. The dude has got God given ability. I just don't like what's between his shoulders, between his ears. Like I said, I'm sorry. I hope I'm wrong. Like I say, I love to be right. You know, if I'm wrong about it, I will kindly heed my words. But Chicago is going to do a disservice. They missed on the Patrick Mahomes. It's the Patrick Mahomes effect. It's, you know, we have to get the next one and they're going to swing and miss. And then they're just going to still be right where the Chicago Bears usually are. And that's middle of the pack towards the bottom of the pack. Just at number four looking up, you know, I mean, it is what it is. And losing Justin Fields and I think Justin Fields, depending on where he goes, he could turn a team into a pretty decent team. I think the guys just needs a shot. He keeps getting new offensive coordinators and coach. You know, I know he had ever flew for, you know, for at least a couple of years. But the guy just keeps getting different things thrown at him. He has to either a scheme he can, you know, bet on, you know, that he can really dive into or give him a system that at least he can run for a little while. I mean, quit trying to change shit on him. It's hard enough to play the quarterback game and the NFL in general. And then you want to just try to, you know, make him learn something else the next year. It's ridiculous. But like I said, Chicago's from what I'm hearing is Caleb Williams is setting stone, going to the Bears. All right. Now that's enough of that. What I'm here for, and this is going to be very controversial. I'm probably going to Russell some feathers. Johnny Manziel, of course, you know, didn't have the best NFL career. You know, he ended up turning around and playing arena ball. If I'm not mistaken, or Canadian football, I don't know. When, when in a Heisman, he was Johnny football. He was the next Baker Mayfield or actually he was Baker Mayfield before Baker Mayfield. Just a very show me. Look at me kind of guy. And Caleb Williams kind of checks those boxes too, just so you know, I get the same vibe from Caleb Williams as I got from Baker and Johnny Manziel. But that's neither here nor there. He came out not too long ago. He had a interview with somebody. I want to say it was me. It might have been Shea Shea. She had a sharp and he was admitting, you know, back in college. I was getting this. I was getting that. And he said that he believes that Reggie Bush needs his Heisman reinstated. And that until he, you know, Reggie Bush gets his Heisman back. He's not going to vote on, he's not going to show up for the Heisman ceremony. And he says he's either going to get more people to be involved with that, you know, statement. Or he's, you know, going to, you know, like I said, he's going to do all he can do to try to get Reggie Bush's Heisman back. Admitting what he did in college is he thinks it's going to help. But there probably might not be as many on his side as you would think. Now here's my take. Cheating, cheating never wins. And I know somebody's probably going to say C.M. USC, Reggie Bush didn't cheat. He did. And he doesn't, doesn't deserve the Heisman. Now you're probably saying C.M. You're an USC hater. You hate USC. You're letting your feelings, you know, your heart blocking your brain. And I'm going to tell you right now, Reggie Bush is one of the greatest college football players that ever played. Period. I put him up there with the Bo Jackson's and the LSU's, you know, Joey Burrow. I put him up there with the Derek Henry of the Alabama year. Reggie Bush rules one of the most electric players of all time. And he actually turned around and did a very damn good job in the NFL. But he cheated. I know he screwed up. You know, did he personally take money? Did he personally do anything? Nobody's family did. And Reggie should have done something about it. He should have told his parents, "Hey, I can't take anything. You can't take anything. Your house, your car, hell, you could have had anything. A 50 inch TV, a booster bought you. You cannot take benefits to being a college football player." And maybe he knew about it. Maybe he didn't. But that's how the game went back in the early 2000s. You got benefits. You got caught. You got in trouble. And there's going to be the other side of the coin that everybody's saying, "Well, C.M., there's the N.O.L. deals now. Everybody can cash in on their name." That's now. Reggie Bush crawled so Caleb Williams can walk. That's exactly this. He was the martyr. He was the beginning of the talks of how college football players should get paid. He was. He really was. Does he deserve his Heisman back? One of the greatest college football players of all time will not dispute that one bit, but he screwed up. It's the same saying that Val Pete Rose, everybody to this day, are still clamoring about how Pete Rose should be a Hall of Famer. And I say, "No." He cheated. He bet on himself. He was cheating. Whether or not in 50 years, he gets the appraisal. He gets the approval on the acceptance that he thinks he rightfully deserves. And a lot of people do. There's a lot of people that are going to not like me after this conversation. It is what it is, but it's my opinion. And we live in the greatest country of them all. And I can say what I want. But the whole Pete Rose thing, you cheated. I don't think you should be in the Hall of Fame. I don't think Reggie Bush should get his Heisman back. In my honest, in my eyes, he's a Heisman winner. But in my eyes, he's not. He can't ever have that trophy. He can't hold that trophy because he or his family did what they did. Hello, Saver. He can get, you know, guys like Baker and, you know, Ricky Williams, Troy Smith, anybody else to get on board with this. But at the time, you could not take money. You could not take benefits. You could not do anything to jeopardize your career. You jeopardize your school. You jeopardize a lot of things. A lot of shit happened to USC because of this. It's not just the Heisman. They lost scholarships. They lost money. Pete Carroll ended up having to go coach in the NFL because of this scandal because he knew it was going on. Matt Liner was probably getting the benefits. He probably had a brand new car back in 2011 because he, not 2011, 2004. He won the Heisman the year before Reggie Bush did. Everybody forgets that USC program in the early 2000s were just dominant. Great teams. Liner probably had a brand new car in 2004, '05, but he did it the right way. And I know that sounds horrible. I know it. I know it sounds horrible. That's probably between help. But maybe even the start, maybe even the 80s, you never know. These guys are getting benefits. I mean, I know a lot of people have seen college football movies like the program or, you know, back in the day, you could not take benefits, even if it was a shirt. A booster said, "Here, have a polo, this polo shirt." You cannot accept gifts. Nowadays, you can. That's why this new age, this new age of people are saying Reggie Bush should get his Heisman back because it's legal now. Now, I'll change the story a little bit. Let's say I murdered someone. I killed somebody today. I go to jail. I go to penitentiary forever. That's, of course, if I don't go on death row. But let's say in 20 years, murder is legal. I know this is very drastic. I know I completely agree. Do I get to join society and all, you know, all is fair? Are my hands washed? Or did I commit that penalty? Did I commit that crime when it was illegal? And therefore, when I did it, it should still make it illegal now. I shouldn't be allowed to join society because of a loophole because later down the line, that crime is now not enforced. That's the way I see it with the college football. He got in trouble just so now everybody can make their money. Everybody can get their bag in college. Even if you're a sinner, you have a great last name. You could promote a car wash in your town. I mean, here in Texas Tech, you know, where I live, we don't have the NIL money. We don't have millions and millions of dollars to give to a star player. But you'll see a college guy in a local commercial on TV every once in a while. They're entitled to make money off of themselves because they're making money for their school. But back in the day, you couldn't do that. So that's why I am all still for him not getting his trophy. You can't. I said you just can't. I'm sorry. If I'm wrong, you think I'm wrong, it is what it is. But it is my opinion. And I'm not saying it's the right thing to do. I still think he's one of the greatest college football players of all time. One of the most of the lectured players of all time. But he screwed up or his family screwed up. Either way, it's a reflection on him and he should not hold that trophy because the Heisman trophy, like I said before at the very start of the show. This is just outstanding performance, which best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. That doesn't qualify holding that 45 pound trophy, right? That doesn't make him a great man, a great person because his family screwed up, right? You have to see it the way I see it. Now, if you don't, it's all well and dandy. The same attitude one bit, you can be all four. You know, Reggie Bush needs to get it hiding back. I'm not judging you at all. But this is just how I feel. And like I said, it's very controversial. There's going to be a lot of people on either side. There's going to be people on my side. There's going to be people that say Reggie Bush deserves his Heisman back. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying this is what I think. I know my college football. Love my college football. But there's just some things I stand my ground on, you know, just like with a lot of things that's going on in this country right now, you may believe in this. I may believe in that. Does that make you wrong? Nah. It's just your opinion. And that's the way I feel, too, with a lot of things. Not going into the gist of all that. But, you know, like I said, it is what it is, baby. But thank you so much for this little bonus episode of the College Football function. Hopefully I didn't ruffle your feathers as much as I didn't. But like I said, if I did, I'm sorry. You know, like I said, it's just my opinion. You know, I'm just an American and I'm just exhibiting my, you know, my right to free speech. So thank you so much. Like I said, bonus episode talked about the Heisman. Thank you so much. I should be back soon. I got stuff brewing. Like I said, I've been working a lot on draft. Should probably be doing draft stuff here pretty quick, breaking down positions and players and stuff and who to look for because we are about a month and ten days, I want to say, around that time, between the draft. So I still got a lot of work to do, but I've still got a lot of work done. So thank you for listening. I saw all the countries out there, Portugal, Canada, India, Ireland, Morocco, Poland, Germany, Australia, Ecuador, Myanmar, France, the UK, Venezuela, Haiti, Indonesia, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, Gambia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Peru, Mexico, Slovakia, and Uganda. I'll take it with a grain of salt, man, it won't hurt me, it won't bother anyone, but I will still, you know, sleep like a baby tonight, so don't worry about it. Big shout out to the boys at the function, you know, Mr. Ritter, boy Terry Minifil, you know, on the IR still, hope you're doing good, my brother, I hope to talk to you soon.
