Squeaky door hinges minor horrible right now, and I've been meaning to do it So what do most people do is squeaky door hinges other than just letting them squeak. Yeah Otherwise, they would probably use WD-40 because I think WD-40 is what you're supposed to use for lubrication Right, but it's not it's not why not Here's our top cleaning hacks and we guarantee you don't know at least two of them enjoy Welcome to the real estate podcast your go-to source for raw unfiltered stories and expert tips Whether you're a buyer seller tenant landlord or realtor join us as we dive into the world of real estate Ready yeah, actually there's a there's one product. I want to find cuz I saw you made a note about what's it called Okay, while you look I'll introduce everybody to today's podcast So today we've got 10 or 11 cleaning hacks We posted a hack about dishwashing dishwashers and Cleaning vinegar everybody was asking what cleaning vinegar was I was shocked I know that people don't know what cleaning vinegar is 56 year old adults. Yeah Ever there is that regular vinegar you're talking about white vinegar, right? And the answer is no There is such a thing as cleaning vinegar, which is stronger and you would typically buy it at You know a home hardware home depot Well depends on where you live in the world. Yeah But home depot and Walmart now carry it pretty religiously would it be a lot of the supermarkets carry it and the one that we use will Say the name. It's the Allen's and it says double strength on there, which means it's six percent You don't want to pickle with it That might be really good though You want to try it kind of I wonder if we I like vinegar we can do you ever do? Pickled onions. I've now I've never pickled anything, but I've eaten many pickled things So maybe we'll try and pickle something with the cleaning it says right on there not for consumption Oh, so maybe we shouldn't yeah, but it is I use cleaning vinegar on a lot of things And so in the grocery store, it's likely to be found in the cleaning department not in the It's funny because it depends where you go. Oh Like in Walmart, it's with the other vinegars You know one of my favorite stores and I for this reason I hate grocery shopping is Canadian Tire because I love Canadian you can go to their app and Click on a product and then push a button and it will flash the product tag on the shelf Yeah, and it's so convenient and for our friends to the south Canadian Tire. I Don't know what the equivalent would be in the US. Uh, it's kind of like a catch-all hardware Home, I mean it's sporting goods. It's they have everything doors It's they have everything. They don't have it would be like fresh produce clothing They do have clothing but like outdoors. They have closed but outdoors closing clothing. They don't have they don't have jeans and t-shirts They do. Oh, yeah, okay. It's a fucking target or Walmart. I guess well Yeah, not quite not quite and you would think based on the name that all they do sell tires Well, I'm sure that's how they started maybe I don't know the history But they do sell tires they you can get all of your vehicle needs there. You know, they almost ran out of business I know then they sold off all their real estate and now lease it and now I believe they're super secure there They're doing really well. So you can While your car gets an oil change and a tire rotation, you can buy all of your Christmas decorations there You can buy all of your cleaning goods your coffee Yeah, it's a great shop and they do carry cleaning vinegar as well I put you know what I do is I have the glass bottle sprayers and You know, you can buy just a generic cleaning. Yeah, yeah, and you put your own just a generic sprayer with a glass bottle not the plastic right and I put two tablespoons of cleaning vinegar in it roughly and The rest is just water and that's what I use but I use it on my Quartz countertops a lot of people don't know this only two tablespoons. Yeah, that's all you need Did you know in restaurants as an example? that is Now people are gonna debate and it depends where you live and some say you got to put bleach in it and whatever but to pass the food safety for sanitization You only need one cap full of regular white vinegar in a spray bottle And that's what cleans your your countertops the Alicia used to do just pure vinegar and I'd come home and it would Hang I use not horrible. I use pure vinegar sometimes too, but yeah, so again, a lot of people don't know this but it will deteriorate the seal on your hard surface countertops, so if you have quartz counters granite counters corian whatever They It'll it'll eat away. It's acidic. Yeah, it'll eat away at the seal That's on the countertop. So if you are using vinegar on your countertops You'll want to reseal your counters more often than you're doing a lot of people don't do it period or rinse and rinse it down when you're done Yeah, yeah, but that sanitizes it really well, so we're gonna go through some really nice cleaning hacks today it's I think really appropriate because We're not talking real estate, but we're talking about Well, it's all relative stuff around the house many of our clients could use these tips when they're getting their house ready for sale Yes, or just for your pure enjoyment of homeownership I'm gonna get one out of the way though, because it's not really a cleaning tip It's more of a maintenance tip, but maybe somewhere in the middle and that is squeaky door hinges Mine are horrible right now, and I've been meaning to do it so What do most people do a squeaky door hinges other than just not letting them squeak? Yeah, otherwise they would probably use WD-40 because I think WD-40 is what you're supposed to use for lubrication Right, but it's not it's not why not I don't know the answer, but I know that it's primary purpose is for Loosening things like if you have a bolt that stuck on you use it to loosen it, but it's not It's not a lubricant a lubricant it won't last long and it's not it's intended use right so the one that I recommend is called jiggle lube which is silicone based and it actually Provides a nice barrier and lubricates the hinges properly, but if you want to do it in an organic fashion and this is what I do in my house is I take a piece of paper towel and I fold it into a nice little square and I soak it in olive oil Okay, and then I take that little square of paper towel and I wipe down and and as you're wiping You squeeze it into the hinge a little bit but you wipe down the hinge and you push some of that olive oil into the hinge and you do that on all your hinges on the door and then just open and close the door four or five times to get that oil penetrated into there and Squeaks are gone. It's organic. It'll be a bad idea to pull the pin right out Who's gonna go to that length to do that? Well, you're doing it what once a year maybe yeah, no just Take take my advice just take a little paper towel push that olive oil in there That's not having hack, but it's a good hack and I just want to Put it out there - when I say WD-40 is not for that WD-40 as a brand does also make other That's true products like there's WD-40 graphite correct, which is a lubricant. Yes. They've expanded their offering to the traditional WD-40 product right and We are fans of WD-40 in the right applications. Yes, all right I'm gonna move to one that you don't particularly like but I particularly love Because it's something that's harder to maintain and keep clean and That's the glass in your shower. It's not hard to keep clean You just have to well squeegee every time you use it We can debate on that and it depends where you live and how hard your water is and if there's anything in the water that might be Like calcium as an example Builds up on glass really easily if you have harder water. It's harder to keep clean so For those of us that don't squeegee every time and even if you're squeegeeing every time no offense It's not perfectly nice and clean so You should go see my glass Yeah Here's the tip get your shower glass totally clean if You have this will be a double tip for everybody if You have hard water spots that you can't get out Use a little razor blade be careful with it Make sure the razor is clean because if there's any particles on that razor It's gonna end up scratching your glass even cleaning it whatever you're using to clean it Yes, can leave permanent marks correct, but as far as the rag get your glass totally clean and then apply rain axe to the glass rain axe is typically used for your windshield on your car and It acts as a barrier to allow the water to just sheet right off and if you apply it to your shower glass your cleaning of the glass just Just Is almost eliminated so my and my objection to it would be that it's a product made for cars and on the outside of a windshield So my thought naturally would be it's toxic and I don't think and when you're in a shower hot shower with steam I would think you're breathing in something you probably shouldn't I don't know I'm just this is my objection be said for your grout or your tile sealer or Yeah, the products that you're using well no because showers are intended for that use So you would also assume that they're safe for that environment Well, I don't know I'd be willing to take the risk on that one just to avoid having to clean it Dude, I'm telling you you apply rain axe to your shower glass You will thank me. Listen. I've got this amazing squeegee. I got off of Amazon It's 12 inches wide boom boom boom like five or six swipes. I'm done the glass. I do the whole shower But your shower glass still needs to be cleaned rarely well, it will Prolong your cleaning cycle if you apply the rain axe. Oh, so there's the tip of shower glass get it clean apply it and There's different rain axe products like we talked different There are different rain axe products. Maybe they have one for shower glass now. I don't know but And they have the wipes So you don't necessarily need to use the spray anymore the wipes don't last as long as the spray ones But you can actually just wipe apply it on Interesting. So that's one Now here's one That I think I introduced you to We've used it in our real estate business for several years now I'm trying to figure out which one of this I know that's why I'm keeping you guessing I have used it. My family has used it in our home for a number of years They're super I know what it is I know what it is and I don't agree with it Norwex cloths There's two cloths two Norwex cloths And we don't sell this stuff if you do leave a comment Tell us what you think if you use these products tell us what you think, but there's two cloths that I think every home must have It's the Norwex and viral cloth and their window cloth The window one is a little bit bigger a little bit thinner and The window one is my particular go to for anything glass So shower glass mirrors Even if you're wiping down your tv screen where we're like polished Fossils you really can you yes, it's great on like chrome and those anything that reflects It's amazing with and all you need to do is wet it down You're not using any chemicals There's no products to use it's just the towel the cloth itself and water and Your windows your glass your mirrors Never looked so good. So you think so for me being and frugal Adrian. Yes. My thoughts are I don't know how much it costs I imagine it's like 15 to 30 bucks. Yeah, something like that how much better would it be than a 499 pack of Microfiber cloths from Walmart while microfiber cloths leave behind those little fuzzies And it smudges things whereas this one actually it will remove we need to put it to a test We have put it to a test. We use them all the time. I mean our side-by-side Legitimate test. Okay. We'll do it later when we're done this podcast Jennifer Uses it to wipe up all of their dogs Slobber because you know the dogs drool and then they shake and the stuff goes all over the glass and everything And She bought it and uses it at home where she used to use Windex and paper towel Because that was the only thing that would clean the slobber now she uses the norwex window cleaning cloth and the environmental cloth Basically does everything that the window cleaning cloth doesn't do So you can use that for cleaning your bathroom cleaning floors Wiping things down It it really really does a nice job And the benefit of both of those cloths that in your scenario with the microfiber cloth is that these have Anti back here, uh, Mike. What am I saying? Anti microbial properties to them because they have Silver fragments with that's built into the fabric itself. So it's antimicrobial It's organic because you're just using water They last a long time the ones that we've had here in our office have been around for four or five years And i'm just now going to order some new ones because we use them At every listing when we go before our photo shoots The girls are wiping down the mirrors and everything and that's what we use. So That is a huge win for me Definitely a cleaning hack if you don't have those two Norwex cloths. I'm sure everybody knows somebody that sells norwex I've never heard of it until I met you. It's a good Or until you mentioned it rather. It's not like we met each other and said, hey, have you tried norwex? That was our intro to each other. Yeah, yeah, okay. So I've got one yes, um Microwaves An easy way to clean them Is to get a bowl of water With slices of lemon Throw it in the microwave for three to five minutes on a high Let it steam and do the cleaning for you. Just give it a quick wipe down afterwards. It works really well Alternatively, you can just cover your food, which most people don't even if you cover your food The smell the nice thing when you do the bowl with it. Yeah, it smells nice Do you put a cover like you know those so that's where your Enviro cloth the norwex enviro cloth comes in handy So when you're done steaming your microwave with the citrus bowl. Yeah You take your enviro cloth Just give it a wipe down and it's totally organic no chemicals and it will look spotless Do you and it's easy do you use one of those lids like the plastic lids that you can put over your plate? No, oh, I don't either. I've seen some people use. I'll talk about toxins I know I don't like putting plastic in the microwave. All those some claim to be microwavable safe Yeah, I mean you're taking your food out of a ziploc bag to put it in a Radiation box like I mean well it also goes I remember watching a Jamie Oliver recipe he was cooking It is and he had he was poaching eggs in Saran wrap so I did it works great Yeah, but then I'm like well this is this safe like you're putting Saran wrap Which is not heat resistant at all into a boiling pot of water and I don't think that's a good idea. You can use parchment paper How do you How do you seal it? It's not as manipulative if that's a word that is why not Or use twine Yeah, maybe yeah, okay. Okay. Yes. So next You want me to go? Yeah, go for it. So next on my list truth be told. I don't do much cleaning at home Yeah, you don't do much cleaning around here either. We're used to it. So the You talked about the microwave talking about appliances a lot of people don't know this the easiest and nicest way to get a beautiful shine on your stainless steel And again, you can use those norwex and viral gloss for this Give it a wipe down And then apply a very thin Application of all of all I have done that and you can do your hinges at the same time Yeah You get the olive oil out do the hinges do the appliances so It brings out the shine It actually almost removes those surface scratches too. So it kind of fills them in makes us visible Yeah, so it makes it look like new and again, you're not using any chemicals. It's products that you have around your house so Next time you clean the exterior of your appliances or you do a deep clean in your kitchen Try it just put a little bit of olive oil onto a onto a cloth or even paper towel works and just rub it in And if you see there's a little bit too much on there Take a paper towel and just kind of And go with the grain go with the grain. Yes. Don't go against the grain. It's kind of like cutting a stake Okay So weird, weird reference Well, you go with the grain when you got a stick Yes Cleaning your oven so this one I just use my self-clean. So this one I can't speak to but Every oven is different with their self-clean some don't have one Some don't have one don't have one and some some have An oven where the self-clean don't work anymore. Oh yours doesn't work. Oh, it doesn't work. Oh, really? Yeah You still haven't replaced your oven. No, no still not We have not long have you gone with every oven. It's been three months Oh, well, but we it's a gas Cooktop, it's dual fuel. So we don't use the oven and the reason is the control panel started acting up So for unknown reasons it will randomly decide to lock the oven Yeah, that's happened to us which disables everything and which is when our self-clean stopped working But the oven still works actually and you can't you can't unlock it you have to flip the breaker Yeah, so we just turn it's exactly the same thing. Oh, is it? Yeah, so we just turn our locks breaker off Well, it's 13 years old 14 mine started doing it like seven Well, this one is now 13 and we turn the breaker off. It's a gas cooktop So we we still use the top we just light it with a barbecue lighter and we've been using the You're outside as an oven. Okay. So if you don't have easy clean or a self-clean oven or Some of them don't do a great job and the and they're very toxic and potent the the chemicals People use well if you're doing a self-clean. No, no, I mean if they don't have that option Right. So the alternative to using easy off or any of those very toxic very potent applications is Cleaning vinegar and baking soda. So essentially you want to make a paste so get a bowl Put a bunch of baking soda in there and Apply some cleaning vinegar. Don't use the regular vinegar. Most things that you'll research on this will say just white vinegar try it with the cleaning vinegar and make a paste To the point where it's a little bit thicker than a toothpaste And apply it everywhere It's almost like if you were salting a cod, you know You want to get your references or cooking. I know well, we're talking about kitchen stuff is true so Apply it everywhere that there's grease or dirt or whatever the whole thing if you so choose Close the oven leave it overnight Now my double hack with this Is as you're removing some of this paste You know in again, you can use a cloth the microfiber an environmental cloth whatever Remove some of it, but don't remove all of it and then spray Some of the cleaning vinegar again on this paste to give it that final little Extra cleaning power so you find this works with very little effort So it depends how of course how bad your oven is But if it just has like as an example if you roast a chicken And you want to get the skin nice and crispy You're doing that with the lid off, but what happens when the lid is off and you're Getting that fatty skin crispy It's spewing it's grease everywhere, right? So if you just have a little bit of that grease in your oven It's a relatively easy Process with this paste application, but if you're like me and you have a grease fire in the oven Then you might need a little bit of elbow grease. Yeah That was good to get it done. Okay, um I don't know too many people that have carpet in their home anymore Some people like carpet in bedrooms, but this also works for area. It's coming back to be honest I think it's gonna come back. You know what I think and it's funny. You should say that because I agree And I think we are going to see new carpet type of products Coming down the line. So at one point went into microbial. That would be awesome Yeah, some kind of easy clean like it's already coated So while you look at the ruggable rugs. Yeah, the stuff that's you know, nice and easy to clean You throw it in your washing machine that kind of technology or that stuff didn't exist really 10 years ago, right? So people like Having the warmth on their feet And it acts as sound deadening So I I agree we'll see carpet products Evolving and coming back But if you have normal carpet Area rugs anything with fabrics around your home You can buy certain like armor all products and you know those carpet Deodorizers and all of that but the easiest thing to use is cornstarch I used to use baby powder I haven't tried that as it's nice undertone to the smell But does it leave anything behind no comes up easily so that there's a double hack for you then But the cornstarch what it does is it actually soaks in the odors So I don't know if the baby powder would do that but I don't know probably masks it you can up Yeah, well, that's it right so cornstarch. You just want to give it a nice dusting Leave it for a little bit And then vacuum it up you can use this on your couch on your chairs on your area rugs or on your carpet It's natural. It's easy. It's cost effective So you don't need to spend the extra money and buy the stuff with the chemicals in it So that is one that I use and it works really well And you want to let it sit for about an hour before you vacuum it up. Yeah, let it do its do its work I Got another one go nuts. I have I have four more I guess three more just going back to the kitchen quickly. Yep Barkeepers friend. Oh, yes, and there's another product for many things for your pots and pans oven utensils, it's pretty universal and then the other one I found I was at I think if you want to do the organic one do the paste Yeah, I don't know what barkeepers friend consists of I don't know. It's fucking great though Yeah, the the bottom of your stainless steel pans. Oh, it's really good for that Oh, but I found another product that is natural. Yeah, so I I don't again I don't know enough about barkeepers friend to say whether or not it is natural or not, but um So this one I was trying to find the name of it and I believe it's just called universal stone it's And it's a stone that's Crushed into a paste format or like a palmer. Yeah, I have some of that at home And then you just get a wet sponge and yep, right? Yeah, it works real well It works. It doesn't work well in all products. It when I bought it at the home show It is very expensive, but you don't use much like it lasts forever. So I think it's warranted. So don't get scared by the price um When I bought it at the home show They claimed to clean everything including shoes. I found when I used on my shoes and made them really clean but for some reason Afterwards, there were more Inclined to get dirty like it almost left something on there that just made them more prone to getting dirty Um, but pots and pans it made my stainless steel pans come out like brand new You want to hear okay, so this wasn't on my list But do you want to hear A hack that will blow your mind. I do mr. Clean eraser bars. Yes Do you use them? We have them. We don't use them often, but we have them and we use them in we use them in our business. Yeah How much are mr. Clean eraser bars like you usually buy it in like that three pack, right? Yeah, I don't know Four or five bucks. Okay. I'm guessing somewhere around there probably I went on to alley baba express And I ordered a 10 pack Of melamine foam, okay That's what the mr. Clean eraser bar is it's melamine foam, but if you get it wet Yes, there's like a almost like something in it. All right. I have one here. Okay, but when I use yours Yes, okay, and I'm gonna prove it to you and show it to you. Okay the 10 pack of the melamine foam through alley so on You can buy it on amazon for 799 right now for 10 of them. Okay, so 79 cents a piece You can cut that down To about 30 cents if you ordered from alley baba express and wait For shipping because it takes longer, right? But you can get a hundred of them if you want that many for like 30 bucks. Oh, well And it works exactly the same in fact Sometimes the mr. Clean eraser bars If you use it on walls, it leaves a residue behind because they do put something in it Yeah And the melamine just melamine foam It cleans it doesn't leave the residue. I use it on my shoes I use it for countertops like if you have a stain in your counter. Yeah A little bit of baking soda and the melamine foam And it cleans it Beautifully. All right. I feel like I'll have to order some I've I've got a sample here that I will Prove to you that this is a great Yeah, clean my shoes You can clean your own shoes Um Now here's something we talked about the Enviro cloth. So if If you're doing your base board You you're dusting you're dusting things. I like to add a little bit of essential oil sometimes Just give a nice this is not really a hack. It's just a little um Little added Kick this is just for smells Yeah, okay Yeah, and what it does Is because now you're adding an extra barrier for dust. Oh, so it's not just smells It's not just smells because there's the oily consistency to it. Correct. So if you're wiping down your baseboards and you put a little bit of Lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, whatever you like Actually eucalyptus will help keep the bugs away too. So if you have ants Spiders especially on baseboards if you have ants spiders You know creepy crawlies You wipe down your baseboards put a little bit of the eucalyptus oil wipe it down It'll help keep bugs away. It'll help keep dust away And make it easier to clean And keeps your home smelling great And this I don't know it's just my house, but I think it's this time of year I'm starting to see more of those little creepy crawlers. Oh, yeah, they're looking for a place to to call home. Yeah All right, um last but not least Toilets this one I didn't know about I've never tried it Try it. It works real well So alcacelzer Has citric acid in it So you want to take a couple of alcacelzer tabs Throw it in your toilet Let it fizzle and do all of its stuff Let it sit for a few minutes. And what I do is I take about a cup half a cup to a cup of cleaning vinegar I give it a little scrub with the toilet brush Sparkling clean Smells great if you don't like the smell of vinegar You can dilute it a bit So we got a lot of comments. I hate the smell of vinegar a lot of people apparently hate the smell of vinegar So if you want to dilute it put it in a spray bottle or whatever Put a little bit of vinegar top it up with water and add your essential oils to that mixture To dissipate the smell of the vinegar Does that do that though or would it be like a smoker that puts perfume on? Masking the vinegar. Yeah, no it depends on The oil that you use obviously I like to use eucalyptus or lavender lavender is a little bit more subtle It does smell a bit weird at times with the vinegar depends how much vinegar you use But the eucalyptus actually smells quite nice. So it's a good idea. Yeah, if you don't like it Yeah, so if you have You know because if your water is hard Or you're at a cottage as an example, you know at cottages Sometimes they have that rule if it's yellow let it mellow if it's brown flush it down But if it's yellow and it's been mellowing for a long time It's going to leave a stain. I think whatever cameras just shut off not our problem so if If it's stained you do this alka seltzer tip and Or if you have a guest that makes a big mess like you had somebody I don't want to talk about it Anyways, there there are some hacks for everybody Try them out if you try them leave a comment and let us know what you think if you have any that we haven't mentioned Then leave us a comment. Let us know If you've got a hack that works for you So to sum up the products that we recommend people getting product. It's how wex rags the environmental And the norwex enviro and the norwex window Friend the natural stone cleaner. I don't remember is called as a green container. Yep Cleaning vinegar which is a thing is a must Double strength is the best double strength baking soda Alka seltzer Alka seltzer I think that oh and olive oil and essential oils and essential oil and essential oils people have around it All these natural cleaning products while barkeepers friend. We're not sure if that's that's right But they replace almost every cleaning product in your house and They're Truly hacks to make your lives easier and make your stuff sparkle Great tips. Thank you.
