[MUSIC] Back in on Kentucky Central, it's Dan Reicho, Satyar Shah. We're in the mobile Kintech Studio. Kintech Canada's favorite orthotics provider, powered by thousands of five-star Google reviews. Soarfeet, what are you waiting for? Sean Shapiro joined us in the last segment. He was brought to us via the hotline. It's brought to you by Dispatch Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, the first call, the only call. So it is a Wednesday, and even though we are at Roger's Arena, we must, yes, we must assess things that are overrated or underrated. Hit the music. [MUSIC] Yes, overrated, underrated, or perfectly rated. That's the game we play every Wednesday. You give us topics and we decide whether they are one of those three things. Generally, we try not to land on the fence and say it's perfectly rated. We like to have takes here on the show. We do our best. We do our best, but we can't always be completely all in on one side. So let's get into it, producer Josh Elliott-Wolf. We'll start with this one from Woodrow, signing Philoparonic for $7 million per year, overrated or underrated. [MUSIC] $7 million per year, oh man, depends on the term, but I mean, I don't know if it would be like, I don't think that's overrated because I think that's probably a shade below maybe where his market value might be. But also, I don't feel like it's enough of a discount for me to say that it's underrated. It's right on the cusp. So I'm starting it off with a very great take today. It's perfectly rated. Perfectly rated. Perfectly rated. You'd be like, okay, good, they got Philoparonic signed, but I don't think I wouldn't be waxing poetic about that deal. I wouldn't be over the moon about that deal. Yeah, it was eight by seven, $56 million total. I know, it's so funny because I'm going right. I'm about to say like, if it's under seven, I'd say underrated, but because it's seven, yes. Yeah. I mean, honestly, I'd say if they actually got them signed to seven times eight, it'd be somewhat underrated because it would be below what his ass could be. I just like to have the number even lower, but maybe I'm being greedy. It's going to be tough, you know, like, it really depends on how much Ronics camp wants to drive a hard bargain and really wants to negotiate their price up as much as they can. How much of a home run can he hit? Can he get if like the thing that the anchor that they hold, the leverage that they hold is if they force their way into a trade, if they think they can get $8 million, eight by eight somewhere else, right? Like Bo Horvat thinking he could get eight by eight somewhere or whatever, you end up getting more eight by eight and a half. If you think you can get that somewhere else and you were able to get traded to that team, well, then that team can give you the eight years. But if he's going to UFA status, then, you know, if you're going into a summer where you're an unrestricted free agent, the team that holds you has a pretty good trump card and hey, we can offer you the extra year. Yeah. And that in and of itself is an extra $7 million. Yeah. Of course. But unless you make the trade in the off season. Yeah. And then he has a year. But that's the benefit that he has right now is as an RFA, you know, if he doesn't want to sign and he thinks he can get it somewhere else, well, he can drive that hard bargain. This one comes from earnest, having only one winger with more than 20 goals so far this season, overrated or underrated. Is there really only one winger? Well, so Hoaglander has 20, Besser has 35. But also J.T. Miller and Oley's Patterson are over 30 as well. So that's two wingers over 20 goals. Yeah. I think he meant like over 20 exactly. So 21 is more than, well, I'm sure they'll get another 20 goals score because I mean Hoaglander will get one more, I'm sure, before this end of the season. I would say their wings are generally overrated goal scoring wise. Like I think Besser has probably scored a bit more than you would expect generally speaking. Now he's making up for some lossy years as well. So it all kind of works out. But in terms of his goal scoring threat, is he a 40 goal score in terms of threat in and out? Like that's the one thing, right? And Hoaglander is shooting a very high percentage. It's kind of Kuzmenko-ish. Not quite as aggressive as Kuzmenko was percentage wise. But he's probably not going to shoot at the same number he's shooting this year, next season, right? So I would say that a goal scoring winger is still a big need for this team long term. Yes. Next one comes from Austin in Langley, the red gradient Canucks jerseys overrated or underrated. Oh my God. I never liked those overrated. Those were my first jerseys, really? Like the, not the skate one, but the one that were first retro is based off of. I had a Cluche, red gradient jersey. So that's, that's your nostalgia. It holds a special place in my heart, yeah. So when they brought it back and made a blue and green, I was like, things are going great. Yeah, I didn't love that. I love that one. Our complete and total affinity for jerseys is just like, what did we grow up watching? Yeah. That's really it. That's all that matters. And whether or not you like a jersey. Well, I don't know if I have the same affinity for the, the West Coast Express color jerseys. Like I much prefer the blue and green orca over that color, orca, but the navy and red. But the gradient specifically underrated as hell. I think it's definitely overrated. Yeah. I'm with refer for me. Do you guys prefer that or the, the salmon skate one? Oh, God. The other gradient. Uh, I don't know. They're both bad. Neither. Neither's not enough. Neither is, is like, oh, next question. This feels like. I almost like being asking short-term. I'd almost rather take the Sprite can ones. So for those ones. I do think the Sprite can one is better than those ones. Yeah. Blue and green just like it went a bit better. So I, uh, the, I actually, uh, I wear the Sprite can jersey for my beer league team. Because I, I got it at the, the can pro amp. Oh, yeah. You know what? It feels better on than it looked like on, on the ice. And the ones you ordered were stolen too many ones. Yeah. The ones I ordered were the, the Michigan jersey was stolen, so, um, I was, it was definitely stolen. But, you know, I, I, I watched so many like jersey game, like every game you're looking at like last night Buffalo and, uh, and Detroit and it's like, man, I love these jerseys. It's like Buffalo wearing their, the, the black hedge, you know, that I remember watching from the late nineties and then, uh, you know, you'll watch the Calgary flames wearing their jerseys from, from the nineties and you're like, man, these, this is, these are great jerseys. Yeah. It's just like, yeah, that's because what I first saw is a five or six year old and I loved it. Yes. Yeah. See, I don't like the, uh, the Buffalo goat head one. You don't like the goat head? It's okay. It's, it's the same as the Canucks where I'm like, hey, the skate is a great alternate. The Buffalo one. Hey, that goat head is a great alternate. Do not make it your main jersey though. Uh, next one, this one, the Golden Knights deadline, overrated or underrated. I do think it's a bit overrated in terms of this year. The Golden Knights deadline, I think the whole notion of everything they did at the deadline and their contender this year, I mean, they are a contender, sure, but all those pieces coming together, hurdle, getting healthy and then all getting integrated and it's going to be seamless. I think we're all kind of assuming that they add Hanathan, the ad math, the top four D, top six, four goal score with some size, a good puck moving defenseman. Now they got to Mosh hurdle, another center for depth. Now you have stone coming back. Look at the team. It's like, well, how are they all going to integrate? What does hurdle look like when he comes back? When does stone come back? What does he look like when he comes back, right? So I do think the notion of them being such a powerhouse this year is overrated. Now watch them just, you know, come together and blow everybody out of the water. But I think for this year it's overrated long term. I think having Hanathan, having hurdle, you know, that's maybe underrated, but for this year definitely overrated. What's underrated about it is they didn't have to give up any roster players. And unless you think Daniel Miramanov was a roster player, I guess he was technically on their roster when they made the trade with the Calgary Flames for Noah Hanathan, but... Like think about the Canucks. They had to have Kuzmenko in the Flames deal and that arguably increased, well, I mean, not arguably. It didn't increase the cost, but you got five and a half million dollars off the books for next year. That was big for the Canucks. If they were to make another move on Deadline Day, they would have had to probably move out of salary or get an extra team to retain. Like the fact that Vegas was able to do all of that and not have to send a roster player is damn impressive to me. And I know they gave up a ton of picks, I know they gave up some prospects, but just an absolute masterclass to be able to add that much talent to your roster without having to give up one piece off of your current roster. Basketball fill, fights in practice, overrated or underrated. Generally overrated in terms of what they mean, guys get into it and they fuss here in the St. Louis Blues. What are you talking about? Sometimes the guys just need to have a go at it, you know? Sometimes you just, you got to get it out, you know? So this is... Get it off for just. This is in reference by the way to the Detroit Red Wings. Yep. Getting him fights at a practice today. Who was it? It was Ben Shrot and Lucas Raymond who believed. So they're going to win out for the rest of the year and then win the Stanley Cup, like the St. Louis Blues did a few years ago? Yeah, they're debating who's the best at doing the gritty on the team. Shrot that unlike Raymond's answer. 'Cause that's what happened to St. Louis, right? Canucks beat the snot out of them. Yeah. In St. Louis. And then they fought. And then they had a big fight at practice. Next thing you know, Jordan Bennington got called up from the AHL and they fired their coach. So what you're saying is... And they want to Stanley Cup. Jordan Bennington can thank the Canucks for his career and his cup. Pretty much. It wasn't for the Canucks. They don't win the Stanley Cup. Dang. That's essentially what happened. One team left the Sad Club thanks to one of the remaining teams in the Sad Club. The story I always remember, because he's told it so much to us. Shano Bryan talking about the fight in practice between Willie Mitchell and Mason Raymond in 2009. Everybody was mad at Willie for going after May. Why going after Mason Raymond for? And him and Kessler got into one year or two. Willie Mitchell, you know, taking, you know, they were amidst that like big eight game losing streak at the time of the fight and they turned it around. They figured it out, got to the playoffs and won around and then lost to the Chicago Blackhawks. How about the most recent example of Dakota Joshua and Connor Garland nearly coming to blows and training camp in this scrimmage, things were getting heated, you know, and now look at them. They're best friends. Now they're besties. Now the, the Canucks don't work without them. Demetri. Four game win streak. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. Demetri, having a tough guy like Rempeh on your roster in the playoffs. Overrated. I think that's overrated. In the playoffs. Yeah. I mean, he's not going to play place four minutes a night. Guys got to play. Yeah. You know, like in the regular season, perhaps underrated, having that guy around in the playoffs, he's not going to play. Is Pat Maroon even going to play for the Bruins in the playoffs? I mean, we'll see. I think he'll, I think he'll play for the Bruins, but I think Pat Maroon is a more, well, like, I don't want to say well rounded, but well rounded player than Rempeh. I just, you know, Ryan Reeves, like these times of guys, as much as I get the idea of having them on your roster, I don't think they accomplish a ton. If you want pushback on your team, it's not going, it can't just come from having a tough guy on your roster, right? And for Rempeh, cool, man. You got a goal. You've had a real good 15 minutes of fame in the NHL, and I, I kind of like what he represents. There's a little bit of old school to him, but you can't go out there, chicken winging guys, and if you're going to play like that, you have to play by the code and, you know, shooting down Curtis McDermott for a fight and those kinds of things like, it's just, it's not going to fly in this league very long if you're that he's, he's building himself a pretty bad reputation in 10 career NHL games. Yeah, I also think that, I mean, people wanted to fight every game now because he's fought a few guys. Like you can't just, you know. It's also running guys though. Yeah, but he did run the guy, but I'm saying he's being asked to like fight every single game. And then he bashed in and then he did it again to, to, you know, to see you get that. I think if he didn't want to fight every game, it's like, okay, maybe cool it on the big hands for a little bit. The bastion ones a big, like somebody to throw a big hit. Like I get it. Like the one he got suspended for it, but it's like, you don't want to got to play physical. No, yeah, it's just like this whole job in the league. Yeah. I mean, you're going to be physical. You shouldn't have to fight after every time you hit somebody. Now, if it's dirty, you've sure, but it's like, is the expectation he has to fight every single game? The question one was, it was last questionable, but it was still questionable. I don't know. There's always fights after every single way, but he has a fight after every hit. Why? I do think that he like he's going to be the guy that it'll be like game four of the round and the Rangers will be down two to one. They'll be like, oh, you got to put rent pay in to get the, get the guys going. He is the most overrated player in NHL history, like the guy has played 10 games, but it's a good story. He played more airtime than like, because it's Alex Ovechkin's goal chase of way. He's not score goals. That's why. He's not scoring goals. You want people to talk about you score more goals. I mean, rent fees, I mean, he's a man that doesn't exist anymore in the NHL, right? Yeah. That's what makes it cool. It's a novelty again, right? And he's young. He's not afraid of chucking them. He does it in New York. It's a fun story. Man, Bob Probert, ultimate tough guy. Love that guy. Keep Sean. The dip score too. Well, he's going like 20 goals. Yeah. Probert. Sean overrated, underrated. The difficulty in flipping the switch from a non playoff team to a contender, like when you're hurdle going to Vegas, overrated or underrated. Like hurdles played enough playoff games that he could probably do it. Could he though, hasn't played all that well this year? And he's been hurt for a lot of years. Yeah. And he won't have a lot of time to get chemistry going there. I swear, people are going to come back and play this because the Vegas goal that's going to go off, but it's like I'm hurtles going to win the cons. Yeah. Probably. But I'm just like fading. I wonder more for a player like Casey Middlesat because honestly, the Buffalo Sabres are and we'll see Casey Middlesat tonight, but he has no idea of like, he hasn't played playoff hockey. And he was on a team that is like, you know, what I mean, you saw bone softer than a pillow. The Buffalo Sabres are awful defensively. They have a bad culture about that team and they're soft as heck. So for him to go into Colorado and hey, he's insulated by one of the tougher teams in the league. They play as a team. They play hard. They play well defensively. They do all the things that you need to and they've got a hard-ass leader in Nathan McKinnon. But I just, you know, I think I would imagine it's harder for Casey Middlesat to pull that switch than it is for Thomas Hurdle. I mean, I mean, he doesn't, he, there's no switch because he has never experienced it. He hasn't done it before. But I look at Colorado. My biggest question with their moves because they've undoubtedly improved their depth. I mean, Casey Middlesat, even if Middlesat, let's say, plays a 70% of what he brought in Colorado, I mean, in Buffalo, that's still 90% better than what they were getting from anybody else. Right? So it's still like, Ryjo was bringing the culture either on this Colorado team precisely, right? So I think it's an upgrade on that at the very least. The question is how much the question is, is he an upgrade enough that you not having bull and Byron the playoffs is going to be worth it. Now I know he had a struggles this year. Now, he wasn't terrific against Detroit Byron, buzzing me, just like on fire that game. Not having a defenseman that could be a top pair guy, play a big minisue in the playoffs. Yeah. That's more valuable to me than having Casey Middlesat. But they felt with how the year is gone, they're making a bet, right? That, hey, Byron's maybe not that guy right now. Let's get this player and we'll make it up with our defense. To me, that's a pretty big gamble. Yeah. And I'm not sold on come the postseason. I know there's a lot of thoughts that Byron wanted to be the number one guy, and he was always going to be number two to Kale McCar in Colorado. Not exactly an easier pecking order in Buffalo with Owen Power and Rasmus Daulin there. But they're not Kale McCar, right? They're not Kale McCar. They're not like the best defenseman in the NHL next to Quinn Hughes and slightly above Quinn Hughes for now. We'll see who wins the Norris this year. But, you know, like Byron looks incredible right now. We'll see how it all comes together next year. I wonder if one of those left shot D in Buffalo comes loose? Well, they're playing Daulin on the right side right now. Yeah. So I mean, maybe they get super comfortable with that and Byron and Daulin hit. And they already gave Matias Samuelson that big, that big contract. I wonder if they do something wild, like, trade Daulin or something, and we all see something nuts. That would be kind of stupid. No, hear me out for a second. Would you do Daulin for Brady Kachuk? Ooh. Like, could you guys not see something along those lines potentially in the off season? I mean nuts. Right? They're squeamish about paying Daulin $11 million a year right now. Yeah, kind of whatever. Maybe in a new regime. They need to change things up, right? We know it's not great right now in Buffalo. I mean, sorry, in Ottawa with Brady Kachuk too. There's some stuff going on there. And if they end up moving Jacob Chikrin. Yeah. I'm just wondering here. I mean, are we going to see the Buffalo State but do something really, really spicy this off season? That would be incredible. It is weird that they have all of these guys playing left shot team, you know. But I mean, I do think Daulin is more of their guy than the power though. They just pay power though. I know. Well, they just pay a bunch of guys. Daulin kicks into a, what, an $88 million deal this summer? Yeah. So, I mean, yeah, maybe they've soured on them. I don't know if they soured. I'm just wondering. It's just, it's an interesting move, isn't it? We already have like two incredible lefty defensement. It's definitely, definitely an interesting one. Unless, you know, you're just looking at it from a talent perspective, like, hey, bow and buy them. Casey Middlesat. Yeah. I'll take that. I'll take the buy room kit. Next one, Justin and his fan Atlanta, 3.0, overrated or underrated. I'm going to go underrated. I'm going underrated. I'm going underrated. Good job. What's the old saying? What's the charm? Yeah. Underrated, man. It's a big market. Honestly, I love it, man. Just for the jokes about it too, right? No, it's a top 10 market in the United States. You want to be in the market. You do. And honestly, when you look at the market, if you look at how hockey's done an incredible job expanding, Georgia's a pretty big state. Yeah. You want to have a foothold in Georgia. Like, when you think about it long term, you kind of want to be there, right? So I think that's part of it. And that's why, with Arizona as well, like, I think you want to have a team in those states. Yeah. It's the NHL's version of Ross and Rachel, you know. Is it going to work? Zach Morris and Kelly Kapowski, you know, on again, off again. I do think it's going to work, though. This time it works. I've got confidence. Are they going to have a third name, though? That's what I was about. Atlanta Flames. Are they going to be the thrashers again? Yeah. Can't be the thrashers again. I think they could be the thrashers again. I don't know. That was a weird name to begin with. Like, bring back the baby blue cherriesies and I'm all in. Just call them dirty birds. I mean, that's their nickname. Yeah. Actually, call them the dirty birds. Yeah. Next one, Steve, the Whopper with Cheese, overrated or underrated? Oh, underrated. The Whopper with Cheese? Yeah. And I haven't had a Whopper with Cheese in a long time. Yeah. I think you have to do the cheese. Otherwise, like, the barbecue smells like two of a Whopper. What are you doing? Burger King still do the chicken fries? Those are great. I haven't had those. Dom is nodding. Yes. It's basically just chicken strips shaped like a friendship. Yeah. But that's all it is. But it's a chicken fried marketing, right? Yeah. And we'll end with this one from Tyler, gravy on fries, overrated or underrated. But like, not poutine, just gravy on fries. I don't know. I think it's-- I mean, I think the poutine is-- it's good. Poutine is gravy. Just gravy. As good as you think it is. It's-- it never is. Depends on who you have. Oh, I don't know. The gravy is cold. It doesn't melt the cheese. And it's just like, what am I eating here? This is disgusting. I think that says more about your decision to where you eat. You're just a big anti-poutine guy. I am a big anti-poutine guy. Yeah. I just gravy and gnome. I'd say overrated. I would say so too. You need the cheese. I generally just-- I don't know. Catch up. I don't love the taste of a lot of places gravy, I guess. Really? Yeah. Are you like, are you a gravy guy in general and you just don't like it? Like, Swiss chalets got great gravy. Swiss chalet. They were-- I don't care. Never mind. This man always talks about like, fine Italian cuisines and like-- he's such a coffee snob. I just-- I don't-- I swish chalets. I can't figure out why Swiss chalets didn't work around these parts. I don't know. It was not good. It was not good. That's it. All right. It's Dan Richeaux, Satyarshot. Coming up, the pre-game show, Canucks, and the Colorado avalanche coming from-- Rodgers Arena tonight. It's a 7.30 puck drop. So we've got 90 minutes to preview the game. You'll hear from Rick Talkett coming up his take on how you can defend Nathan McKinnon and much more on your Vancouver Canucks. That's coming up next on Canucks Central. [BLANK_AUDIO]
