Now from a Veritex community bank studios, bring you the fastest three hours in Houston sports radio. Here's Joel Blank and Jeremy Branham. Ooh, what a base town. Hey, how are we doing? He's blank. I am Branham. It's B-Rod. What are you doing here, B-Rod? Boston Rodriguez behind the glass. Why are you here? What are you doing? I was just on the schedule and told to show up. Interesting. Lots of communication in this place, obviously. We're playing who said it, B-Rod? I didn't see anything in Brian's folder. Thank goodness. We are going to do easy money, though. I think Brian sent in his picks. But Boston Rodriguez filling in for BMAC. Blankers going to take a little half day today. He's got some work he's got. He's got some family do. I got to support my daughters. And then Tyler Boyer, one half of Rock the Mic. One half of the tag team champions for Rock the Mic. We'll be joining us for the second half of the show. Blankers are watching this football game yesterday. Mike, I feel like I deserve a hug after watching that football game. Yeah, I did. Yeah, I did. I deviated and fast forwarded through the Amazon commercials. Now, I watched the second half on mute as I watched other things on the TV that my wife chose. But yeah, I sat through the whole thing. There was something that I was sweating in that game. Oh, got it. I sat through the whole game and watched that whole game. And I feel bad for two people. Two types of people. One, the people who sat through that whole game. I feel sorry for you. I apologize on behalf of the NFL that you had to sit through and watch that game. But also felt bad for Saints fans for a multitude of reasons. They're being hamstrung with injuries, right? They're at cars hurt, a lot of days hurt, Shaheed is hurt. I don't even know about the defensive side of the ball. I'm sure they have some injuries there too. And I sat there watching that game. I was like, man, Saints games have to watch this. They have to see their former head coach come into town with a mediocre team and just blow their brains out. So I hated that for Saints fan and I like Saints fan. I find myself usually pulling for the Saints. I love New Orleans. I love visiting New Orleans. They have fantastic food. That's the reason I like New Orleans so much. The hurricane stuff when they won the Super Bowl. Would you breeze? What a phenomenal story. And then I saw a series of tweets. Indic Riot was the one sitting out these tweets talking about like the salary cap. The salary cap hell quite frankly that the Saints are in in the coming years. Like they're going to be bad for the next four or five seasons. They're going to be the aunts all over again because they were kicking the can down the road with these restructures and piling on money and just adding and adding and adding and adding. And then all of a sudden in the next three, four, five years starting now. They're going to be awful. They're going to be terrible. And what I really hate, what I really despise for Saints fans is that Sean Payton knew was coming and left you. He knew he was coming. He left you. He brings in his new team that's not even very good. He hammers you in front of your home fans. And he was that scumbull that left you because he saw the riding on the wall. And that's what I feel bad the most for when it comes to Saints fans. You're not wrong. And the way that they did it too was, you know, they made about to be the hero. And he came back and he got all these warm welcomes and these hugs and this extended time and and all these things. But when you look at it, we talked about this forever and a day about how many times that they were twenty, thirty million over the number for free agency. And then all of a sudden they would extend contracts and manipulate contracts to get back under. But at a certain point, it was going to add up and you're right. This is a guy that decided to leave you at the time he thought he was going to Dallas. You thought he was going to where he had once coached that he still had a house that everybody said he was going to be the next coach Jerry Jones hired. And then there was the bidding war and then I didn't like him because of the way that he talked and Colin Coward talked about everything with the Texans when he was potentially being a candidate for that job. And then he comes back and it's like a reunion that all the old players are there and it's all the celebrating of the greatness of the Saints. And you're right. When you look at what they have now, you better hope Spencer Rattler turns into something. You know, it was nice to see Drew Brees being honored at halftime, but that might be the last time that you experienced the greatness of Saints football for quite a while. I don't have much faith that Rattler can turn into something. I'm not going to judge him on his first ever star. I guess this was his second ever start. But they also can't build around him. Like that's the beauty of having a quarterback on a rookie contract is that you play the salary cap right. You can build around him. Look what the Texans did this off season. Bringing in to no Hunter, bringing in digs, bringing in a Joe mix in like that's the benefit of having a rookie quarterback under a rookie contract. Even if Rattler amounts to something, they can't build around him. They're in salary cap hell. And I hated for Saints fans that Sean Payton just upped and left them. I hated it at the time. I knew he was going to come out. Yes. And someone texted him. Did he retire? Yeah, he retired from the Saints. He retired from the Saints head coaching position in January 2022. And even at the time left the door open for return to the NFL. He said, I don't like the word retirement. We all knew he was coming back. He was retiring because he didn't want to be the head coach of the Saints anymore because they didn't have a good roster. He knew it was coming with the salary cap situation. And I just, I really felt bad for the Saints that they had to put up with. Now it's going to be a very bad team going forward. And they had to watch that jabroni Sean Payton who left you high and dry coming in there with a mediocre team and just beating it, destroying you. I feel really bad for them. But we get whatever Texans off my soapbox. Now Texans play the other pack. You're a packer. Who are you rooting for by the way? I'm just going to watch. To me, if I'm going to be honest, I'm rooting for the Texans. I know I'm not a big Jordan love fan. And I've said this to people on social media. If I'm leaning one way or the other, I want the Texans to win this football game. Okay. All right. I'll take you for your word. If you were doing radio in Green Bay, would you say the same thing? Well, I wouldn't be as like married to the Texans as I am now because I've watched them. Like I grew accustomed to the Astros. Now they're my favorite team because I spent so many years with them. And I think the same could be said about the Texans. So it's a long way to say no. That's not true. You wouldn't be rooting for the Texans if you were doing radio in Green Bay. If I had never worked in Houston, if I'm working, if I'm working in Milwaukee and I'm a lifelong packer fan, then I'm going to root for the Packers. So it was true. I'm rooting for the Texans on Sunday. So it's true. You just like to play around with what I say. No, I didn't. I would have the two teams because I sincerely. You played around with what I said. You said what I said was not true. And then you backed up how it was true. I wouldn't be an Astros fan if I never spent any time in Houston either. I'm not blaming you. I'm not blaming you. But if you never came to Houston, there's no way you're rooting for the Texans again. No way. Yeah. But tomorrow I'll be with Sunday. I'm rooting for the Texans. Okay. Yeah, I don't disbelieve you for what it's worth. I'm taking you for your word. What are your favorite storylines? And we'll save the love-stroud conversation for the next segment. But there's a lot of storylines in this game that I'm intrigued by. I have a few that I'm very eager to watch play out on the not-so-frozen tundra of Lambo-filled and Green Bay, Wisconsin, coming up on Sunday. What are your favorite storylines? There's several. I mean, you want to start with the one that the media is going to play up like crazy. It's the fact that there's a history between Jair Alexander and Stefan Diggs. And when you look at the history and I remember the night it happened that Diggs went through the Packers tunnel and was talking to Jair Alexander the whole time they were on the field. And then later in that game, Jair Alexander ended up getting a pick. And I want to say there was a where he also blew up a play where Diggs was in it. And it goes back to the Minnesota days. And we always talk about those key matchups that are fun to watch. This is one that's going to be fun to watch because I don't think there's any love-loss between these two guys. They like to talk a lot of smack. And I think that it's going to be a little game within the game. It's going to be fun to keep an eye on. The Stefan Diggs was asked about it and Diggs was like, yeah, whatever. I get up for every single one of my games really kind of took the high road. I'm not justifying the rivalry with Alexander with an answer. But this was last year. I think it was last year. Alexander, Stefan Diggs, and you can kind of tell that Alexander had done a big Stefan Diggs fan. What happened to the tunnel before the game when you guys joined each other going on the field? Alright, man. I was just keeping it real with him. So let me kind of mess with me here, little boy. That's all that was. Just being honest. That's all I can do. You call him a little boy? Little boy. Yeah, usually grown men don't like you when other grown men call them little boys. What if I called you a little boy? Yeah, not please. You probably wouldn't like it a whole lot. But I'm not pleased with Jair Alexander and I haven't been for a couple of years now because he just, he hasn't really grown up a lot and he doesn't know when to shut up. But in this case, I like the fact that there's this going back and forth between them. But even then, you're not going to call a guy older than you that was more established at the time in the league than you, a little boy. I mean, did. So don't tell me that there's nothing there because there's going to be something there on Sunday. Yeah. I mean, Diggs is, Diggs is smart. Like he's not going to do the headline stuff, but I'm very intrigued to see how much. And Jair, I did see his questionable, but it was a limited participant in practice yesterday. So if you're a limited participant in practice, you're more than likely going to play. He doesn't even have an injury designation for tomorrow's game. Devontae Wyatt is out for the Packers and then Wicks and wooden are questionable. And so Alexander is going to play. We'll get to the Texans report here in a couple of minutes, which is not great. But yeah, this is one of my favorite storylines to how often Alexander finds himself on digs and to see if anything bruise between the two because my money is. I think that something will brew. I don't know if it's going to lead to anything physical, but I can almost guarantee you that they're going to be drawing. I don't think the one will be happen. I don't think they're fired. Oh, they're for no doubt about it. I think they'll be happen. I think you're absolutely right about that. And I think the one interesting thing is going to be similar to what we've talked about in the past when it comes to the Texans, but is there going to be a time where they just let Alexander cover him all over the field? I'm interested about that, too. Yeah, because a lot of times Green Bay, much like the Texans do, they normally just kind of stay in zone or they leave guys on one side of the field or the other. And I'm curious if LaFluor, because of the fact that Nico's out, feels like that he has other corners that can stay with tank and the other receivers, but he wants Alexander to stay with with digs that's going to be really intriguing. Yeah, I would think because, like, I don't think that there's a huge gap between digs and Tengdell. I don't think that Alexander will travel and that's me not watching the Packers as closely as you, but because there's not a huge discrepancy between digs and Tengdell, I think they'll just leave them on one side of the field. Now, if Nico is playing, I think you have a different story. It's totally different of Nico's playing, but I tend to agree with you that they do have, look, I think somewhat underrated to a degree, but they have a really good young secondary and their safeties and their corners are good outside of Alexander. And I think that they believe that systematically they will, they can stay home and stay on either side of the football field and nothing should change or be affected by them. And I think if Nico played, that would be different. Yeah, this is from an entry drama point of view. That is my favorite. Now, the specifics of the game, like the Xs and O's, I'm really curious to see the Texans defense versus the Packers offense. I'll say it right away. I have no problem saying this. I don't think the Texans win on Sunday. The injuries that they have, I'll get to the injury report here in just a second, the injuries they have, especially to critical positions against this Packers team, especially this Packers offense, I have a tough time seeing the Texans defense doing enough to be able to restrain the Packers from scoring more points than you. Now, if the Texans do win this game, I think it has to be a shootout. I think it has to be like a 30 to 27 type of game because I think the Texans defense will struggle against Green Bay. But the one specific area that I'm looking at the most whenever I look Texans defense Packers offense is how they handle the middle of the field because you're, you're going to have Jalen Pichu, who I think struggles is a nickel. You have Eric Murray's going to have to cover. Kamari Lassner has been ruled out. The Packers are super deep, even though Wix is going to be out of this game. And I think they're best receivers, a guy who roams from the slot in Jayden Reed. If Jayden Reed is matched up against Jalen Pichu, and yes, I think the tech, the Texans are also kind of damned if they do, damned if they don't, because the book says you're supposed to blitz Jordan love. But if you blitz Jordan love, now you're in man to man, a lot of man to man. Do you want Jalen Pichu, man to man against Jayden Reed? I do not. I think this is a really bad matchup for the Texans specifically Reed versus Pichu or not blitzing Jordan love. That's the thing, because that's the thing that until you, I saw the injury report until I looked at the guys that I think are so vital to the Texans that you got, you know, how strongly I feel about Al Shair. If he's in the ball game, I think it's, it's, it's even more intriguing. It might be the number one story to see if they can provide pressure up the middle, because I've been harping up to you and BMAC for a long time now about Jordan love gets away with more. Just throw it up off his back foot throws, because when the blitz comes, because of the fact that his receivers are so good about just getting deep into center field, they can just run under footballs and take advantage of smaller safeties and defensive backs. But if you can get pressure in the middle, he gets happy feet. I was talking to Lance about this before the show and he has not seen enough of solid blitz packages to show that he can handle the way CJ does with poison the pocket when he's pressured. And if the Texans are at full compliment, they can do that. But without those two guys, particularly at linebacker and then, you know, losing one of your key and maybe two of your key defensive tackles, it's going to be a different story for the Texans. Yeah. That's my, my biggest X and O storyline aside from the, the drama of Alexander Stefan digs. What are your top storylines ahead of Sunday's game? What are you most intrigued by seven, one, three, seven, eight, zero ESPN? Obviously the love versus drought storyline is going to be huge. We'll talk about that too. The injury port did come out pretty recently. All of these players have been ruled out, Kamari Lasseter out with the spatula break. According to Aaron Wilson, he has been ruled out by the Texans though. Henry Toa Toa concussion out Aziz out Shire knee outs, which surprises me a little bit considering he came back in the game. Jimmy Ward growing out Robert Woods foot out Steven Sims back questionable. I do want him to play because I don't want to take no returning kicks and then limited participant was a Foley fat, a cosy who has a shoulder and his questionable is expected to play. So those injuries, we do know that five Texans have been ruled out. Al Shire, Lasseter Toa Toa award in woods, concern level with those being ruled, those players being ruled out. What is your concern level of playing at Green Bay with those players being out? And what are your favorite storylines ahead of Sunday and we'll dip into the seat, the CJ Stroud, Jordan love conversation as well. B-Rod talks about a very specific drug in this song. This type of drug would get you suspended like Mario Edwards has been suspended for four games by the NFL. So there is that. B-Rod filling in for Brian picked up a pan handler to produce our show today. I'm seeing what I can get away with with B-Rod before he gets mad at me. He's never going to speak. He hates speaking. You can keep blasting him and he'll basically just nod his head. I did get a delayed grin out of him though. So I think I can do it. I think I can make fun of B-Rod a little bit. I'm trying to walk on eggshells a little bit, see what I can get away with, see how much I can troll him, make fun of him. I got a grin out of him though. I think it's good. It's positive. What if he really gets overall excited when you ask him to break down the top five prospects in Division two football? Yeah. Do you think that that's something we can talk to you about? Is that something our listeners would enjoy listening to? First of all, FCS is still Division one. Oh, so you're more FCS than Division two. I take all of our. All right. I got misinformation from BMAC. I thought he said Division two. 713780 ESPN. Jordan Love, CJ Stroud. Obviously, this is a big storyline. A couple of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL, depending on who you ask. I think more people would have Stroud ahead of Love. Obviously, we see this from like a very local, I mean, you see it from both sides. I do. It's a very local perspective, national perspective too. I think if you just took a look around, national talking heads, I think would have Stroud ahead of Love. But how big do you think the gap is between Stroud and Love? I don't know that it's that big. You know, I still have questions that I need to have answered about Love overall. But I think that you, in looking at it this week, it's so kind of comparable in terms of the fan bases, the way they look at their quarterbacks, the way they look at their teams right now on the rise and, you know, kind of monitoring. We always see all the Texans chats that we're involved in and that people tag us on. But I go back and I look at some of the Packer chats this week and I was curious. And the one thing that's cool is because Packer fans are normally pretty opinionated and very, very curt about any giving compliments to the opposing team. But this week, it was very much giving CJ flowers and saying how they respect him, how good he is, how much they think that on and off the field, he's one of the next guys that's going to carry the flag for the NFL. I think the biggest differences for me is the fact that CJ has already proven himself to be accomplished in terms of you and I talk about this all the time, his poison the pocket, how he can move within the pocket, slide the pocket, move outside of the pocket and do the things that he does. The things that I am still waiting to see a lot of Jordan Love is kind of what we were talking about if the defense was at full strength for the Texans Sunday. And that is that he rarely has to face full blitzes when he does get the full blitz in his face because their line has been better than a lot of people thought they were going to be. He gets happy feet. He has a tendency to throw Brett Farb style gun slinger doesn't have that same capability and gets himself in a lot of trouble, whereas we know CJ does it. So it's funny to me to hear some of the slander when people start saying love is this much better than CJ Stroud because obviously they don't watch the Texans enough to figure out between the two guys. I think that's the biggest difference. CJ is already matured and poised in the way he handles the blitz and heavy pressure, whereas I need to see more of that from love because I don't think he does a very good job with it. Yeah, he's I mean, if you look up his numbers versus the blitz, they aren't good. The problem though is you don't want to blitz that team because of all the receivers that they have. So you're kind of in between a rock and a hard place. Now I was listening to Jordan Love this week talk about, you know, a variety of different things, but it seems like he still pretty hesitant to run the ball because of his knee. It seems like that that's something that's still factored into how they run their offense. Not that Jordan Love was ever going to be taking these design runs, but it seems like he doesn't want to run as much because of that knee injury sustained in the first game of the year. It's very accurate. And the fact that they got him back and they kind of put him on the fast track to getting back as soon as he could because they had no one behind him and they had to actually go out and make the trade that they made just to withstand two weeks of the three weeks, essentially two and a half weeks that he missed a playing and just basically put it all together till he could come back. He is such a he is the vital cog that makes everything go on offense for them because they really have nobody else that I don't think he ever wants to be a runner, but he is elusive enough and athletic enough that he can get outside the pocket. He hasn't been doing it as much. The key for him is he gets away with a ton of back foot throws where he gets off his back foot and just has to launch it. But you're right. The biggest way that he gets bailed out is he's got four really, really good receivers to throw to normally. Yeah, they're pretty loaded when it comes to that wide receiver room. Now, if if wicks doesn't play then when you have three, but I still think you're fine. Like you're still fine. We haven't even talking about craft. I was often used for a really good tied in to the Texans are going to have their hands full. Look, Demico Ryan said that this is the best quarterback they're playing this week. Obviously some of that is coach speak. I disagree with Demico. I think Josh Allen is although Josh Allen nine for 30 against the Houston Texans. I do think the screen bay offense is better than the Buffalo offense though. I would have Allen ahead of love, but I would have Packers offense ahead of bill offense. I think a lot of that credit goes to Matt Lefluor. I think Matt Lefluor was stifled by Aaron Rodgers when he first got the job and he basically just knew that in order to keep his bread buttered the right way and keep his job, he would just stay out of the way and he would defer to Aaron Rodgers. When Aaron Rodgers left, Lefluor showed what he can actually do. He's an outstanding play caller and the fact that he was able to do and why am I for the quarterback that they had for two weeks? Malik Willis. Yeah, undefeated quarterback, by the way, the fact that the fact that they went and brought in Malik Willis for a seventh round pick at the end of training camp, taught him the playbook and worked on plays that were going to be to his strength and won two football games in the NFL is another credit to Matt Lefluor. He can attack your weakness, he has the weapons to use. Now he's not afraid to do it again, similar to D'Amico, that he wants to be a running football team. As much as he's got those receivers, he wants to pound the football. That's why they got Josh Jacobs. That's why he likes the fact that he can keep the defenses off balance with that too. But Matt Lefluor's offense is very tough to stop no matter who they're playing and we saw that in the playoffs last year. Yeah. Jake is pretty stinking good too. Like we talk about all the receivers and then it's like, oh, okay, here's Josh Jacobs who is pretty tough to bring down. Well, and the big thing on that too, is everybody hated to lose Aaron Jones and it's similar to like an Alex Bregman situation when you've been there a long time and you've established a legendary kind of reputation. People don't want to see you leave and he played great in the playoffs. But the reason why they let him go is because for the last two, three years, he'd missed six to eight games a season that were vital to the overall record. He's out again for Minnesota and Josh Jacobs is a work horse. Yeah, I think Jacobs better Jones at this stage of their career. He's probably accurate. Yeah. Going into the game, I think Stroud will still be ahead of love. This is his chance to put the team on his back and carry them to victory. He will step up to the moment. Yeah. If the Texans win this game, I will be highly impressed. I'll already think the Texans are like, I don't like if the Texans lose this game by seven to 10 points, I'm not going to be like, Oh, the Texans were demoting them an echelon in the NFL. No, it's a really tough match up on the road against a really good offense and you're banged up at critical positions that could better defend what Green Bay has to do. So I'm not even really sweating this game. If you lose, you lose. Now, if they go in there and win as depleted as they are, oh boy, I'm going to be pretty proud of the use. Yeah, that's the biggest thing. I am with you. I think that you're probably best case for success is to get in the shootout like that because you trust CJ and you know, if he's got the game and the ball in his hands with the game on the line, you have a legit shot and that's all you can ask for. That defense being dinged up is the biggest critical factor that I think could cost them because otherwise I think they're very evenly matched. Yeah. I think that if the Texans win, Stroud will little bro Jordan Love like he did Caleb Williams and Drake May. No, I think so because Jordan Love is older because they're both from California because they have history because of the fact that, yeah, I think, thankfully he picks his spots for who you little bro. I think you're a little bro. I don't think I think you're looking to keep it up, Jordan Love. You got a bright future in this league as he makes 55 million dollars. Yeah, I don't think I think I think you will. I want to see the Texans win solely to see if we see CJ Stroud little bro, Jordan Love. The only other thing that I have in terms of storylines is and it's, I mean, it's not that sexy, but really excited to see Daniko Autry in this defense and then secondly to see how he's deployed, how he's utilized like is he even on the field on first and second down? How much defensive tackle was he playing? How much? How much is he just rotating in a defensive end? So that's something that I'm going to be watching pretty closely is to see how Daniko Autry is utilized by DeMico Ryan's. No doubt. I think that similarly to those thoughts, I'm very curious, especially with the injuries and what we talked about. Can the Packers stop the run? I mean, can the Texans stop the run? Because of the fact that the Packers are going to want to smash mouth football right down the middle of the defensive line as much as they possibly can. And with some of the injuries, I'm questioning the backups and the ability to kind of stop the run. I think they can stop the run, I think they have a legit chance to do some things defensively to stay into this football game. And then overall, I just want to see CJ against their secondary because I think CJ's still going to have some opportunities to pick apart in the middle of the field of the Packers secondary. Versace is asking us is DeMico a good coach. I told him no, he's not a good coach because he's a great coach. He's a great coach. I love me some DeMico Ryan's. I don't think he's like a super great schemer, but I think that he is great in leadership. I think he is great in getting the most out of his team. I think he's great at building a culture. And I think that those are the most important things a lot of times whenever you're talking about a coach. Yeah, two of the better young coaches in the NFL going up against each other, DeMico younger in terms of experience than the floor, but DeMico respected because of how he knows defense and how he does the things you said. And the floor has earned his stripes in Green Bay enough to be one of the premier young coaches in the league. Yeah. All right. I'm P listener line, Jim Rutledge, host of Jim, Matt and Molly on ESPN, Madison, and talk to him to get the other side of this Packers Texans matchup. It is the bees on ESPN 97 five and ESPN night do five, a moment for Vanderford air.com. You can go to Vanderford air.com right now and check out all the different ways that they can help you. They can help you in so many ways. If you want to put a whole dehumidifying system in your house, they can do that for you. If you want to get your air conditioning unit tuned up, they'll do that too. The main thing is, as we know, the air conditioning units are the most vital piece of any kind of living arrangements in Houston, Texas. When you own your own house and you have to make sure they're in tip top shape and when they go down, you need a company that's going to be there sooner rather than later. They are experts in their field and they back up everything they do. That's why I speak for Vanderford air. Lance and I both do because of the fact that they gave you everything in writing. They back up everything that they do and everything is a hundred percent satisfaction guarantee to your money back. Not many companies do that and I know from personal experience before I met the people at Vanderford air, I've dealt with those companies that came in, did the work, just told you what they were going to do, didn't put it in writing and then when things weren't right, you could not get them to get back to your house. You couldn't get back to reach them and before you knew it, it was a loss cause. Vanderford air, the exact opposite. From the time you call them, you have a guarantee that within 24 hours, they'll be out to see you. You don't have to wait for days. You don't have to wait for them to get to the rest of their customers. They'll be there to see you within 24 hours of you calling them and that's big, but then it gets even better because whatever the problem is with your air conditioning units or anything else you got going on, they're going to put everything in writing. They're going to put a writing and put it in writing, whatever it would cost to fix the part, if it's a part that's out and they'll also give you a second estimate in writing for if you wanted to replace your entire system and then from there when they start doing the work, from the work that their employees do to the parts and services that they provide, to the systems that they install, everything is guaranteed to the fact that the temperature be will exactly be ideal to where you wanted it to the parts and the actual systems are actually performing the way they're supposed to perform. It's absolutely all guaranteed or your money back, 100% satisfaction or your money back. You can't beat that when you're dealing with any company that deals with service. That's why I always tell you to lock their number in your phone, keep it until you need it and remember it's always there and when you need someone, know that they always have your back. 281557 cool is the number for Vanderford Air, 281557 cool. Make sure you have that number locked and loaded in case you need it and when you need it so that they can be there to help. We head to the HR and P-Guess line, be joined by Jim Rutledge, host of Jim, Matt and Molly on ESPN, Madison, you can follow him on Twitter and Jim Rutledge. Jim, thanks for taking a few minutes on this fine Friday afternoon to join us. We were just discussing the gap, if there is one, between CJ Stroud and Jordan Love. What do you think of these two quarterbacks and if there is a gap, how large is it? I don't think it's a massive gap and if there is one, I'd give it to CJ Stroud being in the lead. What he did doing it as a rookie with a defensive mind to coach is incredibly impressive. I think Jordan Love also is somewhere in between, kind of, toggles between Aaron Rodgers and Brett Farr as far as decision-making and a little bit more streaky than I've noticed CJ Stroud from afar. I think they're close. I'd give that edge to CJ Stroud, especially since he's doing this still in year two and Jordan Love obviously into year four. Jim, I'm being a lifelong, born and raised Wisconsinite. I've been through the ups and downs in all the different ride with the Packers and it's been amazing, as we know, the quarterback shuffle that's gone from Farr to Rodgers to now Jordan Love. But you would always expect that there might be a lull between those teams and I remember the days when Lefluor was taken straight because Aaron wasn't being treated correctly or the offense was this or the offense was that it's amazing how quickly things changed. We were just talking about how respected Matt Lefluor is as an offensive coordinator in the calls that he makes and the offense that he's been running, even winning games with the Malik Willis now getting his flowers from everybody in the state of Wisconsin, it seems. He absolutely is obviously Aaron Rodgers as he continues to maybe knock in his coach fired, but get his coach fired and get his best friend in with the Jets, which, you know, it's funny how a guy can have nothing to do with getting a coach fired, but then have everything to do with getting his best friend on a team that's floundering away from the playoffs. I think that helps though, Aaron Rodgers looking pedestrian while playing and looking old and injured and looking every bit of the problem, he was the last few years in Green Bay, that any of the, you can kind of rewrite history that any of the issues that the Packers had maybe had gone to Aaron Rodgers and there weren't coach Lefluor's, even to the point of I was having a discussion of the day when, before saying, well, we don't want the thoughts and I'm sure Jordan Love, it wouldn't have been, it wouldn't have been good if the thought they was here. Jordan Love would have just started firing a ball for him. I would go counter that I think the way the coach Lefluor coaches his team up. Look at the teams like Detroit and look at San Francisco and look at some of those teams that coach Lefluor I think knows how to coach where the ball is going to get spread around and when you have a quarterback like Jordan Love willing to play with the net offense, you actually unlock more success than having a Hall of Famer wanted to do his way, do things his way like they had before there and at the back end. Speaking of receivers, Jaden Reed does not have an injury designation for this game. Now he's had an ankle that has bothered him this week, limited participant, all of that stuff. It seems like he's good to go if he doesn't have an injury designation. I think the Packers win this game and I think the biggest reason why is because Jaden Reed is going to exploit some things in the Houston Texans defense. What is the health of Reed in this, this wide receiver room overall? Where does it sack up against the rest of the NFL? It's funny. This season started and everyone was like, oh, how many ones do the Packers have? And I thought that was a bit overblown. You have one true star in Reed and I think he's as healthy as anyone can be at this point in the league or at this point in the season, but he's not 100% but he's still their most explosive player and wicks is probably the guy to watch out more for. I think he's got a shoulder thing that might end up putting him out. The Packers are very much outside of Reed receiver by committee and it's really whoever happens to be open. Whoever, Leflork and scheme open in that play call, whichever player that the defense gets fooled on is where Jordan Love is going to throw the ball. That's when the Packers are at their best. There's not a singular receiver that's going to scare you outside of Reed. Christian Watson's got to be down the field. He also drops the ball. Romeo Dobbs, I would say is a good route runner. He's not a guy that should beat you over the top. He's someone you're worried more in third down situations, red zone situations. Fucker Kraff, his best players are usually coming off something that is scheme open. If not specific to the players, it's how coach Leflork uses them. Realistically, you think you can win this game if they get after Jordan Love because Jordan Love when he gets pressure makes them wild throws and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. When they work guys, they work by like a finger tip and at some point that's going to fight him. He's pedestrian quarterback when he splits. Preach it, Jim. I have a question for you in regards to the defense. I know Joe Berry was much maligned while he was there and he frustrated me over the years on several occasions. But Jeff Haffley comes in. He leaves his head coaching job at BC and it seems like he's finally kind of tapping into all the high draft picks and the money that was spent on the defense over the years. Is that the biggest difference and what are the big strengths of this defense right now? So it's funny, statistically, I don't think that they are juggernuts as far as like points per game and other aspects, but what they do is turn the ball over. They are not a good pass rushing team. They do not get pressure for Sean Gary is a point of focus up here. Fans are very disappointed in him in his contract. Then Ness has not put up the numbers. You want out of a first round pick, but they are bringing a mentality of being ball hawks that we have not seen here in Wisconsin really ever. And that's been the difference. They're still giving up yards. They're still giving up points against good teams, but what they are doing is knocking the ball out and David McKinney is probably one of the best sign is if not the best signing and free agency in all of football, Jim Rutledge, host of Jim Matt Molly, ESPN Madison, joining us on the HR and P guests line, you let us know a little bit about some of the weaknesses the Packers have. Jordan love against the Blitz. Where else are the Packers beatable? I mean, they are not a team that has generated a pass rush and they're not really a blitching team. So I think if you hold on to the football, you're going to beat them honestly. I don't think their defense is a defense that is going to hold you up from scoring points. What they're going to do is, and the interceptions, with interceptions, I don't think he just routes you're going to throw a ton. It's going to be thumbles. It's going to be putting the ball, getting kicked in the wrong position. So I think if you hold on to the football, that'll put you in a good spot because they have not generated a pass rush. The rush defense is still, I would say, average. It's their ability to create turnovers is what they're elite at on defense. And then when you're on defense, just get pressure after Jordan love. And as always, if you can slow down that run game without putting extra people in the box, that will set you up well because this offense is very play-action heavy. The Packers, they played Philadelphia and they lost in the shootout. They played Minnesota at Landball Field. They got their butts handed to them in the first half. They did come back in the second half, but Minnesota was complicit in that with a bad special teams play and a sloppy fumble. And otherwise they could have been housed by Minnesota. So the two teams they played that are playoff caliber, the Packers have not looked unbeatable in. So I do think everything is out there for this game to be really tight. I think it's going to come down to a field goal that might be the Packers new field goal kicker who ends up deciding it either way. But I do think that it's going to come down to that. Jim, what a big difference between Josh Jacobs and Aaron Jones. I know a lot of people hated to see Aaron Jones go and the way he played in the playoffs. A lot of people were saying he shouldn't have stayed and they shouldn't have spent the money. But it seems like early returns are Josh Jacobs is as advertised and has been a huge addition for this offense. Yeah, he's definitely been what they're looking for. I think they're using them more than they want to, but Wilson's getting some more snaps. They did have a rookie in March on Lloyd that they wanted to use who's not been healthy. I think the plan was to bring Jacobs in and to use him in a way that he could be a back. It's maybe being used 20 to 25% less than he is being used to help him be able to maintain explosiveness and durability because for his career he's not been a big yards per carry guy and the games that he has the best yards per carry and the biggest explosive plays of in the games where he's not asked to carry a ton of the load. They still want Wilson to develop, but I think that they I would call it a wash, but I think the durability of Jacobs over a gas salt Aaron Jones definitely helps for the Packers. Jim, we appreciate the time. Very appreciative of the inside. Enjoy your football weekend. All right. Thanks guys. Jim Rutledge, host of Jim Matt and Molly on ESPN Madison. You fall on Twitter. Should you choose to blinkers? Do you follow Jim as a packer guy? I do should. You should follow at Jim Rutledge. All right. I felt like it was a pillow fight. Like, I know you're going to win. No, you're going to win. Like I was telling, I told Jim, I think the Texans are going to lose and then Jim's telling me as long as you take care of the football Texans are going to win. So I should be an interesting game and did say he thinks it comes down to a field goal. I haven't been in a three, four point game myself. All right. Will a bit. You never know what you're going to get with the bill. Will a bit. You just know it's going to be very, very good. The killer bees are back and I honestly have no idea what's happening next. Could it be the next great big food debate, the biggest Joel Rant of all time, Jeremy trolling someone to the point of crying or just some actual bees making some honey? But let's find out, it's time for the wheel of bits. Let's play catching stray, catching stray, I don't think we've played catching strays in a while. These are just things that have been said by sports figures, personalities, people on the internet, where someone else catches a stray, and we all know what catching a stray is. The first guy that caught a stray this past week was Peyton Manning, and Peyton Manning catches a stray from his good friend Tom Brady, although they've always had a kind of a healthy rivalry. I think they get along, I think they're friends, but I think there's a healthy rivalry there. But here was a man in catching a stray from Tom Brady. Pretty rich of Tom Brady of Deflategate fame, to take some strays at Peyton Manning for using the old pick play. Yeah, he definitely took a shot there, I hadn't heard that before, and yeah, that was, if you're Peyton, I don't think, you know what, I don't know how good a friend they really, I think they're cordial. Sure. Yeah, I don't know how good a friend's there, because that rivalry was pretty, pretty thick. Yeah, I mean, they played in the match together, and they got along pretty well for 18 holes. I don't think that they, you know, text each other and, you know, have dinners together, but whenever they're in the same setting, I do think that they get along. I think it's also like when Belichick was on the Manning cast and made the comment about in Indy always pumping in the noise, like there's that competitive rivalry that's never going to go away, even if they're not playing against each other anymore. There's a little bit of jabbing it all times. Yeah, yeah, that was a little shot at Manning, though. You wouldn't have had that record if he didn't have those pick plays and through those 55 touchdowns. All right, so next catch in a stray Rory McElroy, who's, of course, professional golfers, had some success. Although I hadn't won a major in a while and is a little bit known for, for choking at some majors. There was an ABC politician, a political commentary commentator that took a shot at Rory McElroy when talking about presidential candidate Kamala Harris and she bombed like Rory at the US Open. What? Why does Rory need to catch that stray? What? That was on ABC after the, I think it was the, I don't even know where it was, what they were talking about. But yeah, it was like a political analyst. It's an ABC political analyst that's saying that Kamala bombed like Rory McElroy at the US Open. Why is Rory catching a stray during the United States presidential race? He's not even American. That was unnecessary. He's not even American. He's the master. He's too, I guess. Yeah. See, the masters is the one that I remember. I actually don't remember. He had the lead big lead in the back that I just completely melted down. Was it 10 or 11 where he yanked into the trees and made like an eight? Yeah. He was toast after that. I think he shot like a 40 something. He did. It was Sunday too, right? That was it. He took, he had the lead making the turn Sunday and then bombed in the back nine. I don't remember the US Open collapsed as much. It was recent. So he did do it. It was recently left here too. Okay. Yeah. Rory McElroy catching a stray from an ABC political commentator. That's incredible. That's pretty out of the box right there. I wouldn't expect that hilarious, but incredible. This last one's not necessarily, I don't think anybody's catching a stray here. Maybe you can make a reach and say that Mario Edwards is catching a stray here. But this was Aaron Wilson. He had the first question, D'Amico Ryan's on Wednesday. When's D'Amico talks on Wednesday, coordinators talk on Thursday. So this was the first question to D'Amico Ryan's after the off day Tuesday. We knew that Mario Edwards was suspended. And here was Aaron Wilson's question to D'Amico, very first one out of the shoot. Previous PD, this one is for a different violation. We guess when you signed in, did you kind of have a tickling that maybe something might happen or was kind of far along with sudden process? Unfortunately that Mario isn't here with this, Mario was playing a really good ball for us. And we just let the suspense in play itself out. We'll have God step up in that row. We'll get Kurt back added to the roster, got D'Amico in, we'll continue to roll our D on as we have all year. Maybe Mario's catching a stray here, but what is Aaron asking? You signed a guy who had PD history in the past. He just picked up a four game suspension. It sounds to me like Aaron Wilson was asking D'Amico Ryan's. Did you think Mario Edwards was going to use drugs again or did you regret the signing or something? Yeah. What is he asking? And you're not going to get a positive answer from the coach when you lead in like that. What is he asking? Mario Edwards has a history of PDs. Did you think like something like this could happen again? Here is Wilson again. First question out of the shoot Wednesday. Previous PD, this one is for a different violation. We guess when you signed in, did you kind of have a tickling that maybe something might happen or it was kind of far along with sudden the process there? What this guy has had a history in the past. Did you think there's something like this was going to happen again? Then like maybe the question makes some sense, but how in the world do you think the coach is going to handle that? And if we had an inkling, do you think we had assigned him? That's yeah, like I said, he sets it up in such a way that the coach has no choice but to be defensive. Did you think he was going to take drugs again, Demico? Like what in the world? This is like, this is like whenever Stern asked Jim Rome, when did you stop beating your wife? Like, what is it? What are you going to say to that? Hey, Mario Edwards has had a history of drug use in the past. He had drug, he got busted for a drug test this past week. What do you think about that, Demico? Yeah, I think that we thought that there would be times that he would be down and then he could come back fresh and we would use them at the times that he wasn't on drugs. Man, that was a bad one. He's had drug use in the past, he thinks he's going to have drug use again. That's the guy. My goodness. Junior Bronco says, "Stoots, you get the first question." I do think that Aaron should be demoted to the last question after that one. Yeah, that's... Unbelievable. That's one of the worst questions I've ever heard. Imagine if he asked that to O'Brien. I mean, I don't know how you answered. I mean, I think Demico answered it perfectly. He did, but I think Bill O'Brien would be fired up. You think? Oh yeah. Yeah, it's kind of critical. Yeah, you might be right. I think he'd come out of the shoot with the first name mentioned and then just read face and go right at him. Mario Edwards had PED use in the past. Did you think something like this could happen again? What in the world are you asking, man? What answer are you getting at? That's the biggest thing. That's the other thing. Like, why do media members ask the question? Because of the context of the response that they're going to get. Whenever you aim your questions towards whoever you're asking questions to, it's to try to get the best answer that you can possibly can so you can use it for however you're using it. Back in the day, writers, so they could build quotes and stories off of the quotes that were said by the coach of the players. Nowadays, you have social media influencers or people who do everything digitally. So it really doesn't even matter what they say. It's just about getting the entire answer and film it and then put it on social media or whatever. But that's getting nothing. Like, that kind of question is getting no response. No response. Or it's getting a defensive or ticked off response by most coaches because of the fact that that's not something that you can answer positively. And you're right. DeMico did as diplomatic a job as you possibly could, but nonetheless, you're setting yourself up for failure because more times than not, you're going to take the brunt of whatever the answer is. Yeah. Now, with O'Brien, maybe it's worth the question because you're going to get some entertainment. You're going to get some entertainment. Yeah, you're going to get some run out of it too. You might get into the doghouse, but you can get some run out of it, but that's not going to happen to Mico. DeMico ain't going to fall for that bait. So good on DeMico for that silly question. Yeah, PED used in the past, this is an unrelated failure of a different type of drug. Did you think something like this could happen whenever you sign what? What are you doing here? Alex says O'Brien would ban him permanently. I had O'Brien mad at me a couple of times. Chris from Sam Houston, D'Amico played next to Juiced Up Cushing. I don't think he cares about PEDs. Imagine if O'Brien was a mod in here, says 75, how Brian would lose his gasket. That's for sure. Yeah. But D'Amico handled it well. What else you thought too, when you're thinking about that, Mario Edwards was just supposed to be like a body, maybe just a camp body or a depth body. And then for him to play as good as he's playing, I think that's why it's so much more significant that we're talking about the fact that it's tough for him to lose. I don't think we were even bringing his name up with DJ at the end of camp and wondering now, couldn't that translate to the regular season? He's been really damn good. Yeah, he has been. It is a loss. So there's no doubt about that. Like, what if you had Brady, or not Brady, I saw I looked at the call screen, but what if you had Barry Bonds? Like, let's say that Barry Bonds didn't get blackballed by baseball. He still wanted to play, never played because he was blackballed by baseball, but somebody picks him up and then he gets, he gets busted for another, well, I guess he never got busted for a majorly baseball drug test. Let's say he gets busted for a drug test and you just asked whatever manager, Hey, you know, Barry Bonds was alleged to use steroids in the past. Are you surprised that something like this happened again? What is the manager going to say? What are you going to say? 713-780-ESP. Let's go out to the HRMP listener line, L.A., you're in the hive with the bees. What's up, L.A.? Great. Thank you. Hey, this is L.A. I want to make a comment about what Tom Brady did, and I respect Tom Brady, but if you ask me, the bottom line is Brady and the Patriots, all seven of those Super Bowls that they want should have an asterisk by them, mainly because they cheated and they filmed, other teams, five lines, got caught and continue to do it. So if I was Peyton Manning, that would be my comeback to Brady, like, Hey, yeah, you may have, you want all those Super Bowls, but you guys cheated and kept cheating, got caught and kept cheating. Yeah. So shut up. Appreciate the call, L.A. Thanks, L.A. That would be a good rebuttal. There's a lot there, man. I mean, you go back to that first one that he's talking about with videotaping the sidelines. The guy disappeared. That was the focus of the investigation that was videotaping. And there was a small fire in the NFL offices at one point in which all that was burnt were the videotapes from the Patriots and a few other things. It's like, hmm. Does make you scratch your temple a little bit. I like a good conspiracy. Six, eight, five, six. How do they decide who gets the first question in the media room? Usually it's a new order. The claim used to have it forever. I think since McLean left Wilson thought he could just take the reins. Domingo called him out a couple of weeks ago for always asking the first question. All right. Yeah, he goes. He goes. Aaron always asked the first question and had somebody else asked the first question. I know Warner used to like to try and get near the front. Did he? Yeah. That's so weird. The little political like the political game going on with asking the coaches questions like, Oh, I want to be first. No, I'm going to be first. It's so silly. Yeah. You think about all the guys over the years, Brian T Smith and all the guys that had to get in there, but Barry was always trying to get a, you know, that, that hard hitting question. I'm going to get the first one. All right. Any objection to this, Daniel Orlowski, Harry Douglas, top quarterback receiver duos in the NFL? Where to shroud? Where to Nico rank? And should they rank there? It is the bees on ESPN 97.5 and ESPN 97.25. Hey, you guys, bunch of football coming up.
