AP News. I'm Edonah here. A day after the House passed a bill that could result in the sale of TikTok. Former Trump Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says, "I think it should be sold. I understand the technology. It's a great business and I'm going to put together a group to buy TikTok." The bill in the House calls on TikTok's China-based owners to sell. Mnuchin was on CNBC. "Because this should be owned by U.S. U.S. businesses. There's no way that the Chinese would ever let a U.S. company on something like this in China." House lawmakers acted on concerns TikTok's current ownership structure is a national security threat. The Senate's top Democrat wants new elections in Israel, saying Benjamin Netanyahu is an obstacle to peace. Here's the AP's Sagar McGonny. Chuck Schumer has positioned himself as a strong Israeli government ally, but amid a growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, says Israel needs a course correction. "Prime Minister Netanyahu has lost his way." Saying he's badly heard Israel support worldwide by putting his political survival and his far-right extremist coalition over Israel's best interests. "Israel cannot survive if it becomes a pariah." Minutes after Schumer's unusually direct call for a change in leadership. "Jewish state of Israel deserves an ally that acts like one." Republican leader Mitch McConnell blistered Schumer, who is among a growing number of Democrats joining President Biden in publicly pressuring Israel to protect Gaza's civilians during the war. Sagar McGonny, Washington. A woman in Minnesota is facing federal charges of illegally buying guns used in the killings of three first responders in a standoff at a home in a Minneapolis suburb. Wholesale prices accelerated again last month, but latest sign inflation pressures are not cooling. Retail sales picked up a bit last month after pulling back in January. This is AP News. The number of Americans who applied for unemployment inched up, but is still considered low. Overall, 1.8 million Americans were collecting unemployment during the week that ended March 2nd. That's an increase of 17,000 from the previous week. The unemployment rate is a low 3.9 percent, it's been below 4 percent for 25 straight months. That's the longest such streak since the 1960s. Layoffs remain at low levels, but there has been an uptick in job cuts recently, mostly across technology and media. Some of the companies that have announced layoffs recently, Google parent company Alphabet, eBay, TikTok, and the Los Angeles Times, outside of tech and media, UPS, Macy's, and Levi's also recently cut jobs.
