The FAN Morning Show’s Got Talent

On hour two of The FAN Morning Show, Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning continue talking more about hockey and the Maple Leafs. They look at the matchup with the Hurricanes and if it should be used as a measuring stick in the Eastern Conference as well as how Toronto has earned the reputation of blowing leads. They bring on Leafs insider and analyst, former GM, Gord Stellick for his weekly hit talking about Toronto and how the team, and its fans, shouldn’t be concerned about who they may play in the first round. They also look at if there were any positives in that loss on Saturday and if they took away from it the same way Nylander and Keefe did. To end the hour, Ben and Brent welcome in-studio Canada's Got Talent judges Trish Stratus and Kardinal Offishall (34:57) to talk about the new “Million Dollar” season of the show that premieres Tuesday as well as some of their Toronto sports connections and loves.

[MUSIC] And the Carolina hurricane are gonna come from a two goal deficit to score on the power play with six attackers. And then with six attackers tie the game with 5.8 seconds left and win it in a shoot-up. >> I got that 4-0 6 goal and that 5-0 6, but I mean they scored two goals within the last like 10 seconds. So I think that was hard, but I mean I think we battled hard and I mean had a game for the most part. So they just been able to get a pass by us during the last couple of seconds. >> Yeah, I think we were skating and working really hard. I mean, I guess these guys you really gotta grind your way to get your chances. So I think we did a really good job of doing that and I mean playing a team like this probably would probably know what playoff hockey is going to be. Or should be like starting to get a good test for us when I thought we played really well. >> Fan Morning Show Sports F5 and out of the fan man and it's running down and yeah, it's, listen, that's exactly the type of sentiment I feel like we get after post season series where it's like, I at least played good enough to win in seven games against the lightning or the Bruins or in six against the capitals and didn't win, but you know? >> Do you think tried their best? >> Well, do you think the hurricanes respect them? That's the question or at least respect them more than they did at the start of that hockey. >> Probably not. >> And again, back to great story by Luke Fox on sportsnet.ca that an unnamed hurricanes player coming off the ice after coming back from down two goals with under two minutes to go and winning in a shootout. So that's Leafs hockey, Voria. Is that an indication that there's a lot of respect happening between or one way? >> No. >> Towards the Maple Leafs from the hurricanes? >> No, but it is an indication of the, I think it's the madmen. The, I don't think about you at all, every team can't help themselves, but think about the Leafs. Other teams who blow leads, you wouldn't hear, that's Jett's hockey, baby. Wouldn't hear that, because no one thinks about you. Barely the Jett fans think about you, they don't even show up to games anymore. >> I gotta say, I wish we could talk to the producer of hockey night, sorry, the director of hockey night in Canada, because it does feel like, you know, some coaches just have more memeable expression, expression laid into faith. >> But, Rod, and the first three goals are such egregious turnovers, and like for this team that's so defensively sound up and down this lineup, and there's a reason why with David Ayers and net, they can limit the shot attempts against, because they're just, that is a hockey team that knows how to play cohesive hockey. And reason why they're one of the best penalty killing teams in the NHL, but after each and every one of those goals, it was like immediately cut to a shot of Ron Brandenburg or his face. And his disgusted appearance. >> Yeah, I'm trying to find the actor here, and I can't, but he looks like the guy from Uncut Gems that Adam Sandler, like traps in his like, in between room in the office where he's just sitting there looking like, I want to kill you right now. That is what his face looked like after all three of those first goals, a little happier, at the end of the result, almost as happy as William Neamander. How happy will one, Leaf fans into the Leafs be if the results hold, and it's, Leafs Panthers first round of the postseason, I mean, the Panthers, just about by every prognosticator, pundit, when it comes to this sport, are picking as the cup favorites, and why not, they've got all the way to the final a season ago, they're having the regular season, many expected them to have a season ago. They got a Sir Gabe Abrowski playing near the peak of his powers, that being said, there's more negative history involving the Bruins, but there's recent history between Leafs and Panthers. I mean, how devastated would you be to see the Panthers in the first round as opposed to the Bruins? >> I think the Bruins are probably a better match up for the Leafs, but I think they're both stylistically somewhat similar teams. Like, math-a-chuck is scary because of math-a-chuck, and there's, you know, the history with Ryan Hart and Bennett and Carter Verhage seems to always find a way. Like, the Panthers are just a better hockey team, I think, than Boston is, but I don't think, even if this was, forget, just who would you rather, if this was the Leafs pick your poison, you can make an argument either way. Like, I don't look at the Panthers. >> Everything's poisonous. >> Yeah, that's the problem is like, they're like me, I was like a big, like I had peanut allergies, my mother was always like, I don't need anything. >> Oh, you have a peanut allergy? >> It's gone away, I've been tested since. >> Really? >> Yeah, like, I used to kill me, now I just don't like them. But, it's neither here nor there. It's like, the Leafs are like that kid with a thousand allergies, it's like, can't eat shellfish, you can't eat dairy, can't eat meat, it's like no Boston Bruins, no Florida Panthers, not a team with a good goalie, certainly not a team. And this is like the kid who's allergic to wheat, where it's like everything, it's in everything, because it's like, and not a team that has guys from the GTA or Southwestern Ontario. We can avoid that as well, that'd be great. That is kind of what they're like. Now look, that kid grows up, usually, they almost always make it to adulthood, and one day the Leafs will get there. I don't look at it as the Panthers are, are they a better team? Yes, are they a worse matchup? Yes, but I don't look at it as head and shoulders are night and day than I would with Boston. >> No, I don't view it that way, and I also don't view like, man, we've had, I'm old enough again to remember going into postseason, it's like, well, how important is it for them to win this series? I think it depends on how it happens, and how they look. And you know, this is a, this is a tried and tested and true lightning team. And if they could just push them to seven games, wouldn't accomplishment, that would be like, yeah, to your point, it doesn't matter that they were pretty much inactive at the deadline. It doesn't matter that the Panthers are the cup favorites. The same conversation is going to take place around this Leafs team if they lose to the Panthers as if they lose to the Bruins. If they did seven games, four games, six games, it doesn't matter. The conversation's all the same. >> Well, but you're right. But it's also unlike years past where there's actually a question, everything's baked in of like, there's going to be no change. Let's say it's the Panthers. >> The blue line, there's going to be a lot of change. >> Okay, there'll be a lot of change on the blue line, but you're not, you're not traded Morgan Riley. I'm not saying you can't. I'm just saying I highly doubt that is leading you. That's the move to lead you to the promised land and all the forwards have their full protection. John Tavares in the last year of his deal, Mitch Marner is in the last year with a full no move. So the conversation's already been had. We can have degrees of how angry we'd be about it or how frustrating a loss it would be. But unlike years past where there actually maybe could have been a change, this one, it feels like it's already baked in in terms of the big kind of pillar pieces of this team that no matter how it goes, they're all back going forward. >> Well, not the head coach. >> No. >> And the gold tidings is obviously in flux as well here with one pending unrestricted free agent. Let's talk to Gord Stella, who is patiently standing by. How's it going Gordo? >> It's going great guys. How are you? >> Good. Do you feel one way or the other about a first round matchup between the Panthers or the Bruins? >> No, I gave up after Columbus and then Montreal. Those were the surest things. Montreal was the surest thing I ever thought of. >> Yeah, I think it's, you know, again, to your point, I was listening in. Obviously, well, I had no choice, but I was looking for you guys chatting. But yeah, when you start, you know, splitting hairs about who you prefer, that's when you get kicked in the groin, you know, about it. So I, yeah, welcome, but you got, you got, if you're going to, if you're going to go far in the playoffs, you got to beat heavy. They're all heavy weight. They're all better teams. They're the elite teams. They're the best half, whatever. So in some ways, if it's Boston, I'd like to do it because I mean, I always like the Leafs chances. You know me, I'm always optimistic. Thank God I wasn't betting. I'd be optimistic and broke, you know, and that. But I would like to see them see if they're up to the task against the Boston Bruins. >> Yeah, I think, I think there is some element to that of slaying the dragon and, you know, the team that has kind of been tormenting you. The Panthers have been recent tormentors, but they just joined the party. Boston's been at it for a while. I think there is some element to that. You know, we've, we talked a lot earlier in the season about maybe the Leafs will find some new edge because they actually have to play games that matter going down the stretch. Well, that ship is sailed. They're going to be in the playoffs. They're almost certainly going to finish third in the Atlantic. And it's not to say they won't try. It's not to say they won't be playing well down the stretch. But doesn't seem like they're going to have that life or death impetus that they may have had. Do you think that that's been kind of something that's hurt the Leafs in the past is being able to just kind of cruise control into the playoffs? And do you think it will maybe negatively affect them again this year? Well, it's funny when because, you know, we talk about all the time and with all teams, like what's the best way to head in the playoffs? How do you end? And there's, it's a total imperfect science about, you know, the regular season. You know, it's funny. I keep going back to one of the most compelling, great first rounds was that six game loss to the Washington Capitals. You know, that, and you knew at that point that, okay, that was just great just getting in. They got a standing hole shaking hands. That's the only time, you know, you get that the one year. But the point being is Brad and Ben was they made on the last weekend of the season. Remember they had home games against Pittsburgh and Columbus and Curtis McElite. He made that save. So they went, they went in with a whole lot of momentum and they really played a very spirited six game series against a, you know, much better Washington Capitol team. So, you know, in that case, there seemed to be a correlation, but, you know, the other one, you couldn't have it set up more perfect than the all Canadian division, how they played, heading in, taking that lead over Montreal, and then, you know, then finding a way to see it all dissipate. So, so I don't know, I'm glad that they got their act together, seemed to coincide with the Morgan Riley suspension that they've kind of made a commitment to play more of a team style with Riley gone. And to your point, yeah, they're not like the Detroit Red Wings right now, even Tampa Bay lighting to a degree with a little bit more playoff concerns. They're not home and cooled out, but, you know, they're the next best thing. Yeah, and, and to, to that point, it's hard to get two up an arms about a loss to a very good hurricane's team and a couple of, well, one, a six on five goal, one, a six on four goal at the end of regulation on Saturday. What did you make of, though, like the, the comments from just about everybody Sheldon Keith and William kneelander specifically and we played clips from both of them that are like, yeah, you know, it sucked. You never want to lose a game but a lot, a lot to like about this game. A good process against a very good team that, yeah, now it's now three consecutive games against good Eastern Conference opposition that you may have to go through in the postseason to against the Bruins last week. And now this one against the hurricanes that you haven't gotten the result in and that, you know, I get it. There's not a ton to play for during this regular season, but it's all we got that there's not more of a. Bringing not alarm bells but just being more perturbed that you just blew a two goal third period lead with under two minutes to go. Well, you know, that's what bugged me like when they lost to Columbus and Montreal. They didn't seem all that perturbed. You know, I mean, it's sort of been this kind of cocoon about, you know, let's not, that's, that's not have any bad stuff spread. So I, when I say take issue with it, I, it's a regular season game. So I try to put it in perspective, but that was a hell of a game. I mean, that was an exciting game and all but the fans should have been leaving feeling that that that's disconcerting how you bleed to the way like that. That is, I mean, that really is Carolina got their mojo going and you're at home and particularly the time goal like, Oh my God, for about a minute and a half or whatever it was. This is when they weren't killing the penalty. Man, oh man, they couldn't. It just was a, they played like to prevent defense. There was no aggressiveness. Carolina wanted it more. There were a lot of giveaways. There was, you know, trying to, you know, just a lot of feebleness for one of a word getting the pocket trying to get the puck out in that. So, so that was pretty disappointing because that's how they blow playoffs. Those are the kind of things you're talking after a game seven about what happened because it happened that way that a lead was blown. Whether you go back to 2013, right? You know, against Boston came seven. So again, I'm not, you know, so I'd be, I would be a little bit more perturbed, you know, keeping it and keeping in perspective. And I have to think behind the scenes. Okay, great. You can glean positives from that game. But man, you've got to be pretty pissed that it ended that way because that's just unacceptable for regular season. And certainly that's going to, that could kill you in the playoffs. Yeah, boy, what did I, let me, let me be very clear for everyone listening. I know you know this Gordo, but I'd take a very different tune after that loss if it was in a playoff game than if it was in game 66 of the, of the regular season there. You know, you kind of hit the nail on the head. I think as long as the message. I mean, William Neelander, you could just throw his quotes out there. He doesn't, he doesn't pay attention to any of this stuff. So I don't think you, you could got to read into what he's thinking of it. If those are the quotes in the room of, ah, oh well, we'll get them next time. Then I think that is concerning. I have very little problem with that stuff publicly, but I just, I think the worry people have is that there is some carry over behind the scenes and not the key is going in there and, you know, tussle them on the head and telling them they did a great job. But I think people who hear that, they do worry that it's a slightly, you know, a somewhat similar message being said behind closed doors. And I think that's the kind of biggest question of all this because if it's a different message behind closed doors, they could say whatever they want to us. But if it's the same one, then I do think there is some cause for concern. Yeah, and I got to believe it is a different, and I have a different message behind closed doors. And I also think Sheldon Keith. I think, I think he's opted a bit that he doesn't have to walk back comments. I mean, you see Rick Talkett in Vancouver, Rick bonus last year when his team got eliminated and just in general, you know, there's still a, there's still a constructive tough love component that's needed and expected. And, and, and rattling the cage is not a bad thing from time to time. And I, I think Sheldon Keith might be doing a little bit more behind the scenes doing that and, and, and the right dose of it can be, it should be healthy. Mm hmm. What are you more concerned about the penalty kill, despite the fact that they added three penalty killers. They, I mean, they allowed two power play goals against on Saturday. One of those was a six on four or the power play that's once again run dry. I like that the personnel is there and we've seen it at its best be just it looks like they're going to score every time they step over the, over the boards, but now one for their last 24. So power play would be concerning me the most again, keeping in perspective, but up late, it's gone dry, dry, dry. And again, they could have salvaged it with the, the love those four and three power plays like they had in overtime. But, you know, no way did it have the same kind of pressure. And, you know, I mean, they play a certain way. I'm not going to knock it. They, you know, you try to find that best shot and it's, it's worked for them. You know, very well prior prior to this kind of drought, but that would be the one. I mean, Mitch Marner is kind of looking like the heart trophy winner right now when it comes to the power play, you know, it him not him not being on it. But yeah, that was off and that was a difference in Saturday. And again, everything in playoffs, you know, special teams and goaltending are huge and they're big in the regular season. Don't get me wrong, but they're huge in the playoffs and taking advantage of those and they're not right now. And that's another factor in disappointment in what happened. You got to hope and assume that thing will be corrected, hopefully by game number 83. Yeah, he would, you hope the Marner thing is weird, right? It started off as, ah, it's just a little banged up. He's going to take a day or two off. Might miss a game. And now, you know, he hasn't skated yet. We'll see what happens today. Everyone around the team saying nothing to worry about here, but we could easily be trending at a position where he misses two weeks here. Do you think that this is a team just kind of slow playing things with with Marner? They've got, they've got the breathing room in the standing. So why not? Or, or do you have a little bit of cause for concern there? Because anytime there's an injury that starts off is day to day and it slowly turns to a week or two. I don't know. I always, it is my nature to just worry about these things. But what's your read on the Marner situation, Gord? Well, if it is a high ankle sprained and then it's exactly what you say, Brent, that it's one of those, like, you think of Rick Nash years ago with the Rangers, like he had the high ankle spring. He was weak to weak and it ended up being like year to year or something like that. You know, so, I mean, that's always kind of the worst case scenario, if it is. But, you know, to your point, it's not as pressing or urgent, not that they would rush him in if every game was a matter of life or death, making the playoffs. But, you know, it, whatever. I mean, it'll be nice to have him back. It is what it is, injuries are part of the game. And, you know, even yesterday, we're too quick. I don't know if it's every city. It's part of being a diehard fan to quickly excuse the injury. Go, well, yeah, Carolina came back with this. Yeah, but we don't have Marner. Well, injuries are part of the game. Okay. And I find that too often people. Well, we didn't have John Tavares when we lost to Montreal. We didn't have Jake Muslim when we lost to Columbus. Okay, come on, give me a break. You know, so anyway, they're a better team with him in the lineup. And I have no idea when he'll be back. It doesn't sound like it's imminent, though. All right. Blue Jays, they're slogan for the season is to the core, because it's like the core guys are going to lead them. What would be a better, like retroactive motto for this leaf season, whatever, or it is what it is. So what the Blue Jays, the Blue Jays motto is who's in charge of changing pictures? No, no, no, no, that's the sub headline. What we don't have the passion that unites is all anymore. Is that gone? That's my question. It's hard. It is hard to elicit. And I am a passion haver, but it's tough to hear. It is what it is when I'm supposed to be eliciting passion. That is hard to argue. I mean, yeah, that's what the leaf one is. Please don't break our heart again. Yeah. That's all just whatever, you know, kind of figure. So I, I, boy, it's, it's like, you know, it's so much fun when you had whatever number of years not in the playoffs, then you start making the playoffs and then you've got higher expectations each year. And we're kind of still there five years later, like, you know, that, that progression of, you know, two, three years or whatever it was that was going now. But we've sort of been in the same place, save for one playoff series win last year for like the last five or six years. Yeah. And this team will ultimately be judged at the end of April, and they're hoping into May and June. Gordo, always a pleasure, buddy. Yeah. Take care guys. Talk to you next week. Sounds good. Gord Stellick. So yeah, they can't break your heart now. Like, this is not the heartbreaking time. So it is like it is what it is. And it is whatever one more slogan. It's not from the team. It is from the head offices of the NHL to Leafs nation. Who cares? Take another week off. That's what it's been because it just had too many bi weeks this, this week with the Sweden trip and coming back from the Sweden trip and they just took a week off for some reason. It's too much of that. You know, it's an interesting point by Gord that we do have actual proof of concept with, like, regular season games up until game 82 that matter and, and how. It impacts the play on the ice. I'll be it. It was also in a postseason loss. They lost in six games to the capitals way back in 20, 16, 17, but, you know, five of those six games and over time, all of them won gold games and they, they looked invigorated. They probably got the shorter end of the goaltending stick. I don't know is just it's a very different team, that one. Then, then, like, there's, like, I look at that. That's pretty cap and I look at that and I do not equate that to because they had to bust their hump down the stretch and it was. Holy makana, holy makalani is Kurt makalani stone, Sydney Crosby and Connor Brown scored to put them in the playoffs. I don't think it was because of that. I think it was because they were a young dumb team that didn't know the pressures of what it meant to be elite in the playoffs. No, no, but exactly. That's the point is that they didn't, they played free and clear. Everyone told they were great, even when they lost a game. And it's the best they've ever looked. So, I don't know. Maybe that's the problem is they need to get back to that. I mean, it's, yeah, I don't, I've looked as good. I'm in the, in the meat of postseason series. I guess you can argue that because it went to overtime in game six, like, there's been too many game sevens where they haven't looked that good. I, I don't, I don't put that to anything other than it was, I mean, it was a good capitals team, but they were not like world beaters that year. No, it was the next year that won the cup. And the Leafs were, oh, oh, congrats. They lost to the biggest chokers in playoff history. Like, I look at it. I look at that as it was a step to be taken. You got in. It's a, you have puncher chance in the playoffs. I don't think it's because they went on some run. One of these teams in the Atlantic at the bottom, or in the east at the bottom of the wildcard here. Well, I don't know. Maybe they'll all just keep losing games until one of them just capitulates playoff spot to the other. But somebody's going to win some games heading into, and then you know what's going to happen? They're going to get their clock cleaned by a good team in the playoffs because it's more important to be good than it is to be showing some form at the right time. Careful. I mean, this is what we've talked about the Leafs are going to become the number one seed and have a wild card team. Oh, careful what you wish for. Oh, yeah, I'm so, yeah, I'm so worried about the boogeyman that is the Leafs become in the top seed in the Atlantic. And I was about to say played Tampa, but that actually would terrify me. So don't do that. No, I was saying more like careful because of this sport being very weird and us seeing a Columbus blue jackets team knock off the historical lightning team and this historic Bruins team being knocked off by Panthers team. But if one of them does it, I don't look at it as proof that, oh, well, look at it. I look at it. It's okay. It's hockey and it's weird sport and that happens. I don't think if you don't think there's nothing to be gleaned from last year's Panthers team and the way they got in. No, I think they have a really good goal in there. The guy was playing like MVP level hockey and math. You very much are the of the belief of like whatever with this Leafs team. I'm of the opinion of I might as well try something different. Honestly, like if you must know that is my belief of sure, let's try scratching and clawing in seeing if that's any different, but it's not going to happen. I don't think it's the be all and end all. I don't think that would have been the thing that had them lock into playoff mode or whatever to bring it back to life. Whatever. Trademark. Whatever. All right. Scotty Schaffler did the damn thing. Back to back wins on tour. Back to back players championships. That's the first man ever to do that at the stadium course at TPC Sawgrass holding off Xander Schaffler, Wyndham Clark and Brian Harmon. Wyndham Clark. I don't know. A couple of those guys held themselves out, but yeah, or held themselves off. Yeah. I mean, can you make the argument that Clark did? I mean, he goes birdy birdy and then hard like I don't I'm not calling that a four on 18. That's a three and a half. Yeah. Yeah. That's exactly it. No, it's a sharply is the guy who and it's the pot. It's the pot on 17 where you. I mean, he missed on the pro side. Yeah. Oh, well, I'm sure that will help him sleep at night is missing on the pro spot beside the respect in the handshake line of golf. I think it is. Well, and it also should be stated that Scotty Schaffler had a chance to birdy 18 as well. He didn't and didn't come through. Well, anyways, he's he's doing the damn thing kind of just lurking all week long and then he what he throws it up a 64 on Sunday just outrageous to win yet again at at 20 under par over those three dudes and to the point about Wyndham Clark. Honestly, this my major takeaway was when you are an all time great when you're going through all time great moments like Tiger like Tom Brady. Yeah. Yeah, you're great and your play is is the major number one reason why you continue to have success. But it just seems like outside things happened that you end up at the top of the podium that you end up hoisting a Lombardi. Like, you know, you take advantage of a fumble against the Raiders and all of a sudden you're winning another Super Bowl or, you know, somebody dunks it in the water at Augusta and all of a sudden you're once again putting a green jacket over your shoulders. It doesn't. I mean, the Wyndham Clark is also a major champion. So like this is, this is not some crumbum. But yeah, stuff like hard 90 degree lip outs on 18 for the one guy that can catch you and send you to a playoff. That happens when you're going through an all time run like Scotty Scheffler appears to be going on. Yeah, he is on the heaters of heaters right now. Also, this is just like fun fact, as always, unless stated otherwise assume all fun facts in the world the golf come from Justin Ray of the athletic. This is the first time since 1960 that a guy has won and the same guy has been runner up to him. And it was Arnold Palmer who did it last time. And funnily enough, the tournament Scheffler won last week was the Arnold Palmer. The thing that made this stand out to me and I, you know, I'll, I'll do a quick little plug here. I'll have more expansive thoughts on this. Me and McKee recording golf show later today. So that'll be out wherever you get your pods. But is that for so long, Scheffler's been a guy who I respected his greatness. But I've never pulled for it. Not a root against scenario either. I've had great golfers that are root against love cheering against Phil Mickelson, for example, I've loved it. With Scheffler, he's just kind of been there and it's like, all right, he's great. He elicits no emotion out of me one way or another. He was super banged up this weekend. He's getting worked on by a chiropractor. He's got like the KT's tape all going down his neck. They showed him. Well, he was practicing because this thing might have gone to a playoff after his round was complete yesterday. He looked like he was going to be sick. And Scottie Scheffler having his like Jordan flu game at the players championship made me appreciate him in a way that I didn't wholly know I could. So I think it was an awesome moment for him to be able to, like, for a guy who it just kind of always seems to, to your point with the great ones, this happens. The C's just kind of part for him. Everyone fell away by the wayside when he won his Masters and that seems to happen all the time. And a big part of that is because he's so great. Well, we used to with Tiger, we were like, it's the intimidation factor. Everybody starts faltering because they look at the top of the leaderboard or they look at the guy who's right behind them. And I'm like, oh, I don't know. I don't think that he elicits that type of response. He has one major championship and I know he's world number one. But that's, that's not the reason. It's just, again, like watch sports for a lifetime like we have done. And look at what happened. This just, you have to be good to be lucky, lucky to be good. And luck has followed the grades. It just, it seems to the universe just, the C's part for these guys. It's just happened in recent vintage again, Brady and Tiger. Look at some of their great moments. It's because they were great results because weird things happened. Yeah, there's definitely, there is an element to that. And wow, I can't be the believe I'm the guy doing this because normally I'm the side of, yeah, yeah, a lot of things happen. And that's why shufflers in this body is, but I just look at that as nothing other than a big, big performance that stamps home exactly what a guy he is. And yeah, luck is part of it, but I don't know. Was it lucky that Wyndham Clark hit that putt to the moon? Like, yeah, that thing should have dropped, but I don't know. Don't hit it so hard and take them to a different line. You have to, I'm not sitting here saying he hit a bad putt. I'm saying that if he hit a great one, it'd be in the bottom of the hole and not danking out the way it did. So I look at luck is plenty down the pecking order of reasons why Scotty Shuffler is doing this. There's some element of it for sure, but that was so impressive for me seeing him this weekend at so much less than 100% Scotty Shuffler. Yeah, it's not luck that Xander Shuffling has to be. No, no, that's just pardon the pun here. That's just par for the course. Yeah, the other thing that I took away from this, talking about no live players being at this tournament is like, and okay, if you're just a general sports fan, do you know who Wyndham Clark is? He's a major champion again. Like, do you know who Xander Shuffler is? He's maybe the best player to not have won a major championship. Do you know who Brian Harmon is? Well, I showed it again like another major champion. And boy, he has a distinctive style to say the very least, but those are not like overwhelming names. But that was amazing. Incredible. It was a great finish. It was a great tournament. It was iconic because of the venue because of the name of the tournament. The live tour will never have that. Like it almost it's almost my language. It is. It's not quite plug and play because you didn't need some star power at the tippy top. That's the world's number one player trying to win back-to-back tournaments and win back-to-back players for the first time in history. But again, like it's these are not this is not Tiger Woods. No. And Rory led after round one boy. How many birdies did Rory have over the four rounds? And he finished outside of the top 20 because I think he lost seven balls over the course of the four rounds. Rory was the psycho scorecard king of the weekend. He absolutely was. So there was some star power. But again, like look at those guys. Those are if you ask just a general sports van, do they know who Windham Clark is? Probably not. But it doesn't matter. Like it would you have tuned into that thing watching X start to get excited about the final holes and and you're like, Oh, I know 16 with the tree in the middle. Of the fairway and the water and like that's the scoring. Well, obviously everyone knows 17 and 18 what an incredible finishing hole as well. The live tour will never have that. There's just there's too much history in too many of the venues. And I don't like what's next. The valve spark like that's that's a different deal. Adam Hadman won that one. Like the Sanderson farms, Invitational offense to Mr Sanderson. But yeah, there are still outside of the majors. Yeah, there are still a couple of events that have cache. That's clearly the number one. And as long as it's a tight finish, that's it is almost plug and play with the players that you can put at the top of the leaderboard. There is. Yeah, there. This is inside golf, but like live the other thing. The reason they can never match it is because of their dumb shotgun start. So it's Scotty Sheffler, or we'll do Windham Clark. And he hits that putt on five because he started on like it's ridiculous. And I know they try to sked it up. So the guys who have the chance are going to finish on the more marquee hole, but that's one of the things you'll you'll never get with it. And lastly on this, John Rahm. What was he thinking yesterday? The answer is probably what is golf tournament? I was on a yacht somewhere. I don't know. Like, that's probably the answer. But if he is the John Rahm that I think I love so much and the fiery competitor who needs to win and his his legacy will not be money. It'll be trophies and the things he's won that we will remember forever. How could he not want to be a part of that? Because he will get to be four times a year and maybe a fifth if it's a Ryder Cup year for him. If he's allowed to do that anymore, TBD on that, I guess. But how can you look at it and say that you wouldn't want to be a part of that if you're just a competitor, live to never match it? No, they can't. And obviously, money is a is a big motivating factor for all of these guys and who can blame him in that regard, but wave a $600 million check on my face. Sure. Please look at the guys that finished at the top of that leader. Like Scotty Schaffler has made many tens of millions of dollars. Windham Clark has already a major champ and they've all like is the whatever a million bucks that separates T2 to one with the highest person who can believe on the PGA tour outside of the majors at the players championship. Is that like going to change Windham Clark's life? But look at the way he reacted to having that putt lip out as hard as it did. Like it's, it does like, you got to remind yourself, I don't, but no, people should remind themselves, especially considering some of the decisions that have been made and have been motivated by money that there's more than money that motivates these guys. It's just like factual. And yeah, you don't end up in that position being that high level of athlete without that burning desire inside of you that can't exist on the live tour. God, this is such a bigger topic that we've kind of stumbled into here, but it's like, isn't that what we always talk about about being a leaf and being going to play in some all surround at the differences as you get to always to stay only cup and that matters where you do it, right? That's kind of like harking me back to that. The idea of, yeah, you can play somewhere where it matters and people care, or you can go get your paycheck and go play golf in the sun. And that's exactly what those guys are doing. They're basically coyotes. So you're saying like Scotty Sheffler would choose to be a Toronto Maple Leaf. Now the only difference is like that guy wins, right? Yeah. Well, boy, we could we get like one of those guys who wants to be a leaf. That'd be good. I mean, we had one for five minutes anyway. What the hell out of here looking at you, Ryan or Riley time now for the wake and rake presented by sports interaction, your homegrown sports book, 19 plus bet responsibly. All right, we got Monday night hockey on sports net tonight. Yeah, the Monday night Calgary flames and capitals. A couple of teams trying to get into the postseason, the caps path seems a little more clear than the flames eight 30 Eastern time on sports net tonight. The flames are favorites at home minus one 30 while the capitals are plus one 10. The total in this game is six Brent flames picked up a good, good win recently over the golden nights in the, in the no a handful bowl. But I'm going to take the caps here. This is a team, as you mentioned, they both have a lot to play for Washington seems a little more realistic. And if they just keep taking care of their business, no one around them is going to be able, it seems to be able to do the same. So you get a little value on it as well. Give me the caps at a plus one 10 on the money line there. Yeah, it's hard to avoid that as well. A couple of teams that I think are pretty similar as far as their talent level is concerned. And the capitals, it's just, it's more a realistic possibility for them to get into the postseason. It feels like they're going to be the more motivated bunch. So, yeah, despite being on the road, the plus money isn't icing for me as well. I'm going to take the capitals plus one 10. That was the Waken Reich presented by Sports Interaction, your homegrown sports book 19 plus bet responsibly. When we come back, the new season of Canada's Got Talent going tomorrow at eight on city TV. We'll talk to a couple of the judges on the show, Al Fishel and Trish Stratus. You can stream it anytime on city TV plus. And this year. Rogers giving away a million dollars, the biggest cash prize in Canadian TV history to the winner. We are very happy to be joined by a couple of the judges, Cardinal Al Fishel and Trish Stratus in studio. Cardi is standing up for some reason. I appreciate that. How's it going? You know what? I played basketball on Saturday and got undercut. Oh, no. There's a negative reason. You can't physically sit. I mean, I can, but then I look like a weirdo when I have to get up. And these guys are judgy. I like to think you're just like lording over me. It's like, I'm always the tallest guy in the studio and you come in here and I'm like, I don't know about that. I don't like that. No legal over here. We're going to show you his boss. That's what we did. That's what we said. You didn't kill. He made me get out of my seat for this. I'm always sitting over there. You have really, I just said it would be easier for our guests to slide into the one side. Hey, listen. At least I'm not standing up. I actually kind of feel like I want to stand up. I got to be honest. This is a, this is like a radio school thing. They don't teach you, like, you guys, you guys are former diaphragm. You guys, let's take your diaphragm. This is working. Oh my gosh. The thing, though, is like, this is fine at 743. When we're getting a new hit six in the morning, if he can barely stand to see me talk, let alone stand. Well, yeah, I don't know about that. Look, guys, look at this. Look what I'm doing. Oh, see, I can't do that. I will not be lifting my leg anywhere out the table. You guys want to do yoga? I'm going to say you guys can't see what she just did, but she literally just took her heel and, like, almost touched the ceiling. You know, this is a radio. You could have just worn flats, right? No, I stand next to him. They can't shoot me. So I can't, you know. This is true. So how are you guys? Thank you for helping us. 8 p.m. 8 p.m. On CDTV. The million dollar season. That's right. I, yeah, a million bucks. You can't argue with that, but also it's besides the million bucks. And we're just getting into it. We were almost wasting too much of the good stuff before we came on the air here. But to me, I would feel under a tremendous amount of pressure when I am responsible for not just handing somebody a million bucks, but, you know, maybe they're professional life. Like, do you guys think about that actively? Have I screwed you up now by putting that into your brain? Like, just to me, I would feel like that would give me anxiety. It's giving me anxiety, even thinking about it. What do you think? Yeah, honestly, it was. And that when I first signed on as judge, it was something that was like, geez, you could literally change the trajectory of someone's whole life, livelihood, everything in the moment, which is great. And I felt honored to have that position, right? But, yes, the high pressure. But now with a million dollars on top of that, you know, something. I'm like, do you know, I'm just in card now. Did you look at anyone that's got that guy with a million dollars is not a good idea. Yes. Yes. There were a couple of contestants where I was like, there's no way we can give this person a million dollars. We're in the content industry. It's like, I'm going the other way. I'm thinking, give that person a million dollars and film it. Yeah, yeah. I'm not saying we could make the million back, but like we get a little. Some content. You know, it's amazing that we get such a wide variety of people that come through. So it's like the process. And that's, you know, it's not about the destination. Yes, shout out to Rogers and a million dollars is incredible. And also, you know, big up to CIBC and the $25,000 golden buzzer this year. Yes. But here's the reality is that it's really about the journey and not just the destination, meaning for us. I guess the pressure is like spread out. You know, I'm saying over the whole season. So it's never like it's just like at one time, like we're like, this person could be the million dollar person. What it is for us as judges, it's really a process and we get to see comedians. We get to see singers. We get to see contortionists, acrobats, fire eaters, whatever, like all these different things. So I think the real pressure is it's like seeing the potential of the people. You know what I'm saying? That's really like what we think about is it's like, this person could be the person to take it all the way. And then there's some people who are like, that was cool. Say hi to your mom when you go back home. So, you know what I mean? And don't forget, there's moments where a performer comes on stage and everything goes wrong. So that moment is your moment, but oh my God, like even technical issues that's happened before. So it's like, it's amazing. You know what? It makes for a great show. It does. I mean, one of the things I love most about the show is that it's, I mean, you get such a wide range of performers, right? Like, I saw a clip with the magician. I mean, you do have singers. That's what we love. You got rappers like, yeah, okay, I was going to ask you, what's your favorite type of performer that shows up? Oh, it's so funny. I really, I remember when I first got the gig and I was asked and I thought, I definitely resonated towards the group, like the collaborative efforts or things, mostly because of what I do. I know it's a collaborative effort, what we do. And then, and then, you know, I, but it, I really feel like it's not even an act that really is my favorite anymore. It's really, it's so unique. Everyone brings their own flavor. And sometimes I'm crying over like, you know, someone's singing a song, which I never thought like singing or like singing was my thing. So it's like, a lot of wrestling fans out there are like, it's crying over us. What are you talking about? Listen, those, some of those singers evoke some serious emotion. This is true. I never know what you're getting up there, right? Just to continue from what she's saying, it's like, this year, what I like is we're seeing a lot of combos. You know what I mean? Like, sometimes you, you know, you get somebody who you think is a magician, but it's like sometimes the comedy within the routines is actually even better than the magic itself. See, I would like a singing magician. I thought is where you were going there. I would like it. Yeah, somebody should break through as a singing magician. You should do it. I mean, that's, I feel like it's late in life to break up. That's what I'm talking about. I'm the rapping magician. So, none of those. I was going to say, like, you never have this for somebody's going to come up there and go like, all right, this is my friend. I'm going to suplex them through a table. Yeah, you have to have that when there's a rapper up there. I'm like, okay. No, no, no, no. Let's see this. I want to see this. You know, listen, you know what, it's interesting. And I think because, you know, I mean, because of the million dollars, like, people are leaving it all on that stage. You know what I'm saying? It's like, there is, you know, some friction that we have between some of the actors. I'm like, yo, you do realize we're the ones that are judging. There's a lot of like really, really amazing moments this year. Yeah, I can't wait to watch it again. It premieres tomorrow 8 p.m. on city TV. You can stream anytime at city TV plus. That's right. This is a sports show. I kind of, I want to talk to you guys a little bit about Toronto sports. Come on. And Cardi, I know you're you're a big Raptors fan. It's it's been tough. We've done like an hour and a half of Sports Talk radio. We haven't mentioned the Raptors and Magic once yet because it just feels so far off the beaten path. And I know this is a process and there without some guys. But yeah, what's your level of faith that this is going to turn around? So here's the thing, a couple of weeks ago, I got to hang out with my side. He did during Black History Month, like right at the end he did this event with Canada Goose. And I went to go see them speak and it was an amazing conversation because I got to hear him talk very candidly about what his process is, how he makes his decisions and like how it impacts people's lives. And that's what people don't. There's a parallel between what he does. Believe it or not. And what we do is to where he's like, listen, this is like somebody's livelihood. This is their family. So when he makes the decisions, people think, you know, by the time it gets to us, it's just like, oh, this person's being traded, whatever the scenario is. But, you know, it takes a lot. And he's like, listen, there's times where I pace for hours, you know, getting up the, you know, the gusto does to say what I got to say. And I think similarly, like for us, it's, you know, the way that they edit it, it seems like a simple process. But a lot of times for us, it's super tough. And I think for the Raptors, like, you know, Masai, he's got, you know, he's, he's really incredibly smart at what he does. You know what I mean? He plays no games, but I have total faith that, you know what I'm saying? Like he's going to be able to restructure and build back up the team, you know what I mean to a championship team again. Well, it's also tough because it's like, we didn't know what that was like. Now we have a little taste of it. That's right. That's right. That's right. But I love his confidence though, you know what I mean? So I believe in him for sure. Well, it is interesting, like in your not the first person who's told a story just like that, there are few people in this city in this life that you beat where it just seems like every person who comes across his path, they have some story about how driven or something they could take out of it. Yeah. And Trish, we were talking a little bit with you. You were good luck and bad luck for the Leafs. I won't put the bad luck on you, but I'll die. You can. I'll walk it away. Believe me. We do an hour. We've done an hour and a half of this. I've been putting plenty on the Leafs. I have no problem doing it now. But you brought some good luck last year too. I did. I mean, I was so used. I'm good. Is it Drake and me or good and bad luck? Yeah, that's the one. I guess Drake is good luck because they finally broke through in 2019. Outside of that, it's been a lot of bad luck. Yeah. I mean, I basically, we won that first round because of my... That's obvious. Your presence? Obviously. No, no, because of me rubbing the cup. Oh. I had contact, direct contact with the Eagle. Got a little closer. Got the given them a rub, so to speak, you know. However, I attended the game the first, second round and they lost. You have to say that part. You could have just left it out. I can own it and I'm okay with that, you know. Because I will not go again to the first game of the second round when we ever, if we so get. We'll be back. We'll be back. It's fine. You have to be determined what your presence at the All-Star game, like how that impact would think. But yeah, it was cool for the first time in over 20 years to see the biggest stars in the sport in the city for the All-Star game. And for them to come back to where like hockey matters. Oh my God. Yeah, what was it like? I mean, I'm sure there were some tremendous parties. And it did feel like, boy, as much as hockey compared to the NFL and the NBA in North American parlance, like it's kind of down the packing order in this country. Those guys are true superstars and it does feel like Austin Matthews is kind of the guy that breaks through the people. If you have to name one hockey player, like an American will know Austin Matthews is. They're not wrestling, like the non-resting fans are like, but no, you know, so I'm close to Boston though. It's just like that. The right there, right? Or the rock, right? People know he's the breakthrough. It was super fun and watching the players and knowing, you know, not a player, but you know, as a sports person on the road. It's an arduous task to be on the road. And so it just looked like they were having fun. You know, it looks like they were just like letting loose, having fun and the crowd was into it. I'm sure that, you know, it's something to give to that energy. It was pretty awesome. Oh, please. Those guys get 41 home games a year. How many times you get to a wrestle at home, right? Not very many, right? Way harder. Way harder. What did you think of John Cena being bare bare butt at the Oscars? Yeah, that's a choice. It's a choice. That's a good one. Yeah. You know what? We got some publicity. So, hey, mission accomplished. I suppose, huh? He's got a great physique. Yeah, there's no question about that. Great sit-outs on him. That was never in doubt. Yeah. Yeah, we saw almost all of it. You had to miss all the parties because it was Grammy week during all sort of time. It was. It was. But you went to those parties. So, you're fine. Yeah. If you haven't made you prefer all-star week party for Grammy, it's pretty good. Guys, this is a sport show. Yeah. So, I was torn apart. I was torn apart. Yes. Good answer. I was torn apart. Did you get it to support? I hated being at the Grammys. In the warm Los Angeles, it was on and off. Oh, bummy weather. Oh, so terrible. Yeah. You sweat. Oh, my gosh. That's uncomfortable. All sounds really bad. It's true. You listen to music. Superstar is the music. Oh, it's terrible. One thing. My partner here. Oh, my gosh. Sorry. It was always next time. You're a battleer, though. You're battling today. Standin' up. That's right. You're getting destroyed. Who destroyed you? Who won? It's a sport show. Tell us a story. You're a public. But, you know what I mean? Like, you know, I was playing basketball and, you know, I was going up for my layup and somebody got a little bit, um, you know, overzealous. That's a great word. One thing that people don't know about Trish Stratus before at 9 a.m. Yeah. Her verbal lexicon is incredible. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, the amount of big words that she has used this morning alone is just blowing my mind. People think that, you know what I mean? She's a wrestler. She's a wrestler. She's a dancer. She's a dancer. Don't let the blond hair. She's a dancer. She's a dancer. Not as dumb as I look. What? Yeah, you know what I mean? So, you know, land it on my back. So, still in a little bit of pain. Okay. Also, it was a big and then dunk. You know whoever did this, you know who you are. Pastard. Yeah. Send them to me. I'll take care of it. Well, not even put it out there. In solidarity, we all did this standing up. Yes. Guys, it sounded great. But if you could only feel the awkwardness in this room, it is super weird. But at the same time, our lives are open and we sound great, but all are feet hurt. We can hold it out. No, we're seated. Well done. So, we're working on this jingle, uh, just what do you guys think? Uh, we know. Yeah, no. I think it's got potential. We should keep working on it. Keep working on it. Yeah. I think there might be something you can use a little bit. Okay. Thank you for that feedback. We appreciate that. After all, it is a sports show. So, what do you guys know, right? Nothing. You're annoying. I'm about to start talking about these. Uh, again, tomorrow 8 p.m. on City TV, you can stream anytime on City TV plus a million bucks to the winner biggest cash prize in Canadian TV history, guys. Thanks so much for doing this. Okay. Thank you, guys. Anytime we'll be back soon. I'm sure you will. All right. Fan Morning Show continues. Ben Annus, Brent Gunning, Sportsnet 590, the fan.
