[MUSIC PLAYING] Welcome to the Carey Newhoff Leadership Podcast, a podcast all about leadership, change, and personal growth. The goal? To help you lead like never before in your church or in your business. And now your host, Carey Newhoff. Well, hey, everybody, Carey here. Man, this has been an exciting lead up to the official launch of the podcast on September the 9th. And I just want to thank you, man. It has been such an exciting time. I've heard from literally dozens and dozens of you who are just pumped about the launch of this podcast. Hundreds have already subscribed. It's just exciting, man. And what I want to do in this short episode today is just sort of give you a foretaste of what's coming up on the podcast. So this is who you're going to be hearing from in the first few months of the podcast. You're going to hear from Andy Stanley on what he had to learn to keep growing as a leader and how he mobilized his team to reach the people they're reaching. I had to learn to trust the systems. Andy, just trust the systems. Run the plan, run the game plan, do your part. Don't try to be all things to all be focused on what you do well and allow the people around you to do what they do well. Because they always say, good morning. Thanks for doing this. I'm like, no, thank you. It was not for you. I would be sitting on my front porch, preaching to as many people as I could gather in my yard. I think one of the things every leader learns is when people are in their sweet spot doing what they're created to do and you leave them alone, things just go better. You'll hear from Casey Graham on how churches are missing out on communicating with their most important people and how you can change that. So the point is that's where our people are. And so the reason why I'm passionate about it is because it's the best place to reach people. That is so simple. You can shoot it on an iPhone. You can have it on a web page. And you can send an email out and cast Vision for Outreach on a Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. You're going to hear from Dom Russo. Dom is a Canadian church leader who did something brilliant. He figured out how to use the past to revive a church that had seen better days. And it's doubled in the last 24 months. Incredible. Here's one amazing thing. School closed, church didn't split. Our attendance continued to go up. And in the midst of all of those challenges that we navigated carefully and pastorally are giving continued to go up and the church is still strongly united. I have to, as a leader, one of my key responsibilities is to gauge the temperature or the pace at which this community can handle change. Frank Bueller from Elevation Church is going to talk all about how Elevation Church gets literally thousands of volunteers as passionate about their mission as staff are. Definitely. So I think it's a good, healthy structure and layer of leadership, where we give people permission to cast that vision and empower them to actually lead. Some of the people running around on the campus on a given weekend, they perceive that they're staff. It really does get blurry on the weekend of who's staff and who are great volunteers that just own what we're doing. Jeff Henderson is an expert, a leading figure on preaching and communication. He's going to talk about why communicators connect and why they don't connect when they're talking to church people and unchurched people. Your leadership will grow or diminish based on how well you communicate. But I ask people, hey, are you prepared? They would show me-- they would say yes. And then they would show me 145 PowerPoint slides, as if that means that they're prepared. The ironic thing, too, Kerry, is the shorter messages you speak, the more impactful. But what's counterintuitive, it takes more preparation time to speak shorter messages. You're going to love hearing from Ron Edmondson. Two years ago, Ron took over a church that had seen its better days and has seen it double in size, as they've learned, how to reach out to their community and bring people who have never been to church. The other thing we did is we have tried to change the language around here. Rather than talking about what's happening here, we're talking about what's happening out there. Constantly, they're hearing me say, church is not done in here alone. We've got to get outside these walls if we want to be a church today. I think you're going to love hearing from Stephen Barr. You might never have heard of Stephen, but he actually launched a church in Orlando, Florida, which only serves Disney cast members. He's going to talk all about reaching niche markets of people and how to do that. We've been there for almost three years now. And have slowly been embracing the culture, understanding the little idiosyncrasies of the culture. And getting to the point now where cast members know us, they recognize who we are and why we're there. And every person is coached differently. I mean, I can tell you all the people in cast member church, every single one of them is unique. And they require a different language, a different way to approach them. And once you understand that, and once they understand that you care about them, really there's no limit as to what God can do through them. And Rich Birch from unseminary.com is going to join us and talk about the radical changes that churches need to make if we're really going to keep up with reaching the changing demographics in North America. There's a whole trend around EDM, electronic dance music. I think we can't be scared of those beats in our worship music. I think we have to figure out how to-- if you look at the electric guitar, is almost absent from top 40 radio now. It just isn't there. Well, I don't know about you, but man, are you a little bit excited? Because I'm really, really excited about the conversations that we're going to be able to have here on the podcast. And man, it's just such a privilege. And the goal is just so simple. It's simply to do this, to help you lead like never before. Now, those are just a few audio samples of some of the interviews coming up. I could go on a lot longer, but let me just dip in one more time to give you an idea of a couple of the other people you're going to hear from in the first few months of the podcast. You're going to hear from Kara Powell, an incredible leader who talks all about how to help faith stick in kids and your kids and the kids you lead at church, as they leave high school and go on into college. And it's a really authentic, great interview with Kara that I'm really looking forward to being able to share. John Acuff and I are going to talk all about why work is so important and some of the stuff he's been working on. Tony Morgan's going to talk about your volunteers and why sometimes they don't work out or why staff doesn't work out and how to make sure you don't keep making those mistakes of bringing the wrong people onto your team. Reggie Joyner is going to have a conversation with me. Craig Jarrow, somebody who's an expert in time management. If you follow him like I do online, he's time management ninja. That's his blog and everything. He's going to come help us all manage our time better. Diane Grant, somebody you might never have heard of, but you will really enjoy getting to know. She serves as Andy Stanley's executive assistant. And we're going to talk all about how she manages and leads Andy and what that looks like and what her role is. That's going to be fun. Craig Jutilla has a fascinating conversation all about how he was at the very, very top, working at a major mega church. And things just came imploding around him. His marriage was in trouble. And how he and his wife, Mary, got through that. It is such an honest, authentic conversation. Almost moved me to tears. Can't wait to share that with you. And I hope it helps. I just hope it helps. And finally, we're going to hear from Derwin Gray. Derwin's going to talk all about why churches find it so hard to be multi-generational, multi-ethnic. And he's got such an inspiring story. Former Indianapolis Colt played in the NFL for six seasons. I mean, just a great guy and a great friend. And again, that's not even everybody. So it's just fun. We're going to wrap it up for today. But I want to thank you. Thank you so much for making this such a fun journey so far, an amazing journey so far. I can't wait until Tuesday, September the 9th, when we launch episode one. In the meantime, we can keep up the dialogue on carrynewhough.com, just jump on over to the blog. And that's where a lot of the conversation happens. And if you feel like it, leave a rating and review on iTunes. That's just so helpful. And the more ratings and reviews that get left, the more people see the podcast, it just helps in the iTunes feed. And I'm so grateful. I hope all of this helps you lead like never before. Can't wait until we launch on the 9th. We'll talk to you then. You've been listening to the carrynewhough leadership podcast.
