(upbeat music) - Hello, and welcome to the Accountability Coach podcast, where we will discuss topics, ideas, questions, and issues related to having a totally balanced and successful life. This is Ann Bakrak. Today we're going to talk about four tips for building self-esteem for business success. If you've struggled with self-esteem throughout your life, it may be a bit challenging to start creating confidence now in your business. But I assure you, even you can build self-esteem and succeed in all your endeavors. Here are four tips for building self-esteem for business success. Number one, look the part of a professional. If you're trying to build your self-esteem in business, you've got to look the part of a professional. When meeting with clients and prospects, we're something that is considered standard for professionals in your line of work. If you're a graphics designer or artist, you will have even more flexibility. However, if your profession is more formal, such as a marketing consultant, you'll have to present yourself in a professional image. If you have an early morning meeting with a potential client, be sure to get a good night's sleep. You want to look bright-eyed and well-rested when meeting with clients and prospects. Appearances count for a lot of business. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Professionals take care of their appearance because it gives them confidence. Surprisingly, making sure you look groomed and professional is the easiest step to building self-esteem in business. Number two, first impressions. If your self-esteem is lacking, you may also have poor posture or a flimsy handshake. Sadly, these two aspects can leave a negative first impression. You want to appear confident and knowledgeable, so be sure to greet the client with a smile and a warm welcome. Introduce yourself, hold out your hand confidently and gently and firmly shake their hand. A simple, it's nice to meet you, can go a long way. When standing or sitting, be sure your shoulders are back and your spine is upright and not slouched over. Maintain eye contact with your client throughout the conversation and do not speak while your client or prospect is speaking. Be sure to provide ample listening time to ensure you are truly listening to what your client or prospect is saying. Number three, be confident. When you want clients to hire you, it's absolutely essential to acknowledge your accomplishments and present the client with valid reasons why you are capable of delivering the benefits they are looking for. Of course, this does not mean you should arrogantly brag or appear overly superior. However, you should be sure that potential clients are aware of your accomplishments and how that separates you from your competition. Not only will that give you an opportunity to stand in confidence, but it will also increase your client's confidence in your ability to deliver what you say you will. Be sure to place an about me section on your website. Include a few personal details about yourself. Then immediately shift the subject to what you've accomplished in your education and your career. Then relate what you can do for your clients. Give prospective clients a reason why they should hire you over someone else. Number four, experience. Experience will help you build self-esteem and succeed in business. Once you have successfully delivered results, be sure to ask your clients for a testimonial. With each success, you will gain more confidence. After a while, upselling clients and giving a good first impression will just become second nature. If you're just starting out, you need to jump on every opportunity to get to build that experience. Code call and email potential clients and explain how you can help them. Talking with the clients will boost your self-esteem because you're gaining valuable communication experience and each conversation will then become easier. In addition, even your most rehearsed sales pitch will transform into a natural conversation, allowing potential clients to feel more comfortable. With each success comes more confidence. So just keep trying. Before you know it, you'll be an established professional and know that your clients value your services. Isn't that what all professionals want from their careers? You can improve self-esteem in business by maintaining a professional appearance, working on the way you present yourself and gaining continual experience. Chances are you may feel a little nervous each time you make, quote, a sales pitch or meet a potential client in person for the first time. The important thing to remember is not to let the nervousness stop you. Just for the moment, forget about the sale and focus on your talent and what you have to offer. When you can remember that, you can do it and probably do it really well. The anxiety of, quote, making the sale will not even be in your mind or subconscious. With time and experience, your confidence and self-esteem will continue and grow until speaking with clients and perspective clients feels as natural as a conversation with a best friend. The sooner you can embrace your confidence, the sooner your self-esteem will carry you to business success.
