[ Music ] >> Hello, and welcome to the Accountability Coach podcast. We will discuss topics, ideas, questions, and issues related to having a totally balanced and successful life. This is Anne Bakrak. Today, we're going to talk about the top three traits of successful leaders. Do you ever wonder why certain businesses fail while similar businesses thrive in the same economic climate? There are several commonalities shared between strategic and successful business owners. The top three traits of a successful leader are centered on the internal operation of their business, analyzing current business practices, and carving out an untapped niche in the market. Continue listening to this podcast to learn the top qualities of successful leaders and learn how their businesses thrive. Number one, value your team. One of the top three traits of successful leaders is a sense of community with their business. Successful business owners understand that employees or team members must find a sense of happiness and connectedness within their organization in order to take pride in their efforts. Value your team and be sure to voice it and you will watch them walk the extra mile for you and your business. Valuing your team consists of things like offering competitive compensation for their dedication, treating them with respect, recognizing them individually, as well as a team, rewarding them when they meet certain goals, providing a fun, energetic work environment, increasing responsibility can increase a sense of ownership and also the value to your organization. The team members that are doing their best to see your company succeed should be given all of the above and probably a little more. However, it's also imperative to do your due diligence in weeding out the toxic team members. It will serve you and your business best to eliminate team members that pull and suck the energy of the team and bring it down. Team members who aren't adding value to your business should be replaced with dedicated and energetic members, ones that are actually happy to be there. Here's an action step for you to helping you implement this concept. Evaluate your compensation and benefits package for all your team members. If they are virtual assistants or temporary at help, think of ways you can create an incentive-based promotion, even if it may be a seasonal or temporary. In addition, you could ask them what they most need and see if there is a way for you to help provide it to them. Number two, go against the herd. Becoming a successful leader is not about blending in. It's about remaining true to your vision and going against the herd if that's what is required. If you have a gut feeling about your business, the best thing you can do is act on it. The more you can create a unique niche in your market, the more leverage you have against your similar competition. When Sam Walton opened up small convenience shop in a town with a population of less than 50,000, other business leaders were convinced he was headed for failure. They had no idea that Walmart would go on to be the largest retail chain, maybe even in history. What's the moral to this story? Going against the herd may be your ticket to success. Sam Walton had an idea, a passion, and carved out a unique niche in the market. He remained true to his vision and went on to provide his vision and make it into a reality. "Huh, shouldn't you follow suit on that concept?" "Are you playing it too safe with your business?" "Have you had an idea about how to do things differently, but we're just too afraid to take action." "Do one thing different with your business this week and see if you get improved results." Number three, commitment. The second top quality of successful leaders is commitment. Business owners that are committed to watching their businesses succeed rise above the challenges that are thrown their way. No matter what the circumstance, they approach challenges only as opportunities to learn how to do things better, and they never waver. Only a team that is led by a strong leader who is committed to success will succeed. This is the time when you are more than a business owner. You are really a leader whether or not you realize that your team is watching you and will follow your lead. Panic under pressure and they will follow suit. Remain calm, focus, and determined and your team will rise to the occasion. Be a source of inspiration to your team by holding your head high at all times. During weekly staff or team meetings, be sure to voice your pleasure with the things that are working well and thank your team for their efforts. Convey that things are only going to get better and you are committed to the success of your team. Be honest and tell them the truth, it will go a very long way. It all boils down to the fact that successful leaders cannot be dissuaded from the values they operate from. When you hold value in your team, stay true to your vision and commit to success, you will achieve your goals. You can develop these top qualities of successful leaders by ensuring that you have got a solid team that takes pride in their efforts, commitment to your unique vision, and a solid strategy for growing your business. Here is an action step. Are you truly committed to your values and what is important to you? Does your business force you to take action that is not in alignment with your true values? If it does, it is time to change that right now. Re-visit your values and what is important to you. Restructure your business if you need to to support these values so you no longer have to go against them. It is true that they say that owning your own business is one of the toughest personal growth periods of your life. You will not only become a business owner, you will become a true leader. Visionary and savvy business strategist, while these simultaneous roles are challenging, they will hopefully provide the springboard to a better you and a more successful you and a successful business. My hope for our time together is that you got value and an idea or two that will help you be even more successful, personally and professionally.
