[ Music ] >> Hello, and welcome to the Accountability Coach podcast. We will discuss topics, questions, ideas, and issues related to having a totally balanced and successful life. This is Ann Baccrack. Today we're going to talk about the top six strategies for dealing with difficult situations. Entrepreneurs and small business owners are often juggling multiple stressful situations, and if you let stress take over your life, you're going to burn out and lose passion for your business. Ever heard that before? Hmm. Overcoming difficult issues with ease is an art that can be learned simply by identifying effective strategies for dealing with difficult situations. Once you learn the basics, you can implement them in any difficult situation to help you reach your desired end result. Let's talk about six strategies to help you deal with these difficult situations. Number one, take it one step at a time. Approach your workload with one step at a time. When you're juggling multiple hot issues, it's easy to get overwhelmed, but taking it one step at a time is one of the best strategies for dealing with difficult situations. Start with the most pressing issue, and then break it down into small manageable increments. Although you may be up against a deadline, it's important to keep things in perspective. Deal with the most pressing issues that cannot be delayed or postponed. The projects that can be delayed without much damage should be dealt with secondarily. Make phone calls to the necessary context to inform them. The task will be slightly behind schedule. Apologize for the inconvenience and ensure the contact that you will deliver the task as soon as it's complete. Number two, focus on the goal. When you're dealing with a stressful situation, it's important not to overdramatize. Instead of agonizing about the situation, focus on the desired end result. Focusing on the end goal is one of the key strategies for dealing with difficult situations because it helps you prevent you from getting caught up in the stress and anxiety. When you remain focused and calm, you work more efficiently. Number three, vent if you must. Being productive is a difficult task when you've bottled up your emotions and stress. If you find yourself unable to concentrate on the task at hand, give yourself a few moments to let the emotions come to the surface. Cry, scream, yell, or go outside and run around the block. Whatever you need to do to regain your focus. Have your five minute pity party and put your big girl and big boy pants on and deal with it. Be aware you are a leader and your team will be watching you. Be careful what you show in front of them because they will most certainly feed off your state of calm or chaos. Seek guidance from a colleague, friend, or even significant other. They may have just the right advice for you to regain your focus. Number four, take a break. It may seem counterproductive to take a break when you're dealing with a tough situation, but taking a break can really make a difference in your productivity. When I say take a break, I'm suggesting you get up and out of the office. Sitting at your desk during your break will do nothing to change your perspective. Meditate, go for a walk or have a cup of tea. Stepping out of your office and temporarily changing your environment may just give you a fresh perspective you need to finish up the project while remaining focused and calm. Number five, organize. Working in an unorganized environment can lead to havoc. It can lead to a big deflation in motivation and harbor nasty procrastination habits. Keeping an organized workspace will help you overcome difficult issues with ease because your environment will not be contributing to the chaos. Develop the habit of filing papers in a specific area like a file cabinet, organize or eliminate all other items that are cluttering your workspace. Make it a point to tidy up your workspace before you head out each evening after work. A visually pleasing office will help you keep your composure even in a difficult situation. Number six, be realistic. Be realistic in what you can accomplish in any given amount of time. Although you'd like to think of yourself as Wonder Woman or Superman, there is a limit to what you can accomplish at any one time. pushing yourself to do more than is physically possible will only create needless difficult situations and just add to your stress. Set up realistic goals for accomplishing tasks without forcing yourself into a whirlwind. Prioritize, create a schedule and stick to it. Using a timer can also help. Place one on your desk and use it every day. If you're swamped at the end of the day, reprioritize the tasks for tomorrow before you go to bed so you can rest peacefully and get a good night's sleep. You can overcome difficult strategies with ease just by making a few changes to the way you handle tasks. Once you identify strategies for dealing with difficult situations and implement them, you will be prepared to handle just about any tough situation that comes your way. It's about focusing on the end result, breaking each task down into manageable steps and altering the way you work to reach maximum productivity. Remember, when you're feeling overwhelmed, that is assigned to stop and evaluate the situation. Tough situations are best dealt with calm and objectiveness. If you are too emotionally involved, upset or angry, it may be best to let it go for the time being. Take time to think and reflect upon your desired outcome and form your conversation around that goal. If you are ready to address it, great. If you need 24 hours to think about it, that's OK, too. The important thing to remember is to follow these six strategies to help you achieve your end result, however long it takes.
