(upbeat music) - Hello, and welcome to the Accountability Coach podcast, where we will discuss topics, ideas, questions, and issues related to having a totally balanced and successful life. This is Ann Bakrak. Today we're going to talk about the power of confidence, belief, and calendaring, or time management, as you might know it. First of all, we all need to focus on activities within our control. While you cannot control other people, communication is key for effective accountability measures to help ensure things are completed on some kind of a schedule. So you want to be able to focus on things that we can control, because obviously, that's all we can control. So what can you control? For you, you can control your belief that things will eventually correct themselves, and we'll get back on track to what is maybe somewhat normal. During these economic times, obviously, things are not normal. So eventually, you have to believe that things will be normal again, and focus on what you can control. You need to wake up every day with extra confidence, because people need to take some of your confidence to help them get through whatever it is they're going through. You have to come across with confidence, because you believe in what you do, and how you make a difference in people's lives with what you do. Do you believe that things will eventually come back to a better and more stable financial environment? You know, the markets go up, the markets go down, and you know this to be true, and so do most people. So again, you can't control the market, or what happens, and most people understand that. You have to do whatever it is you need to do to come in every day, wake up every day, with extra confidence to give away to others who need your confidence to help them get through whatever it is they're going through. So what do you need to do every night to wake up each day with extra confidence to help give away to clients and prospects, and friends and associates? What do you have to do every day, each day, to gladly give some of your extra confidence away to help others have more confidence in you and what you can do for them? Focus on what you can control and do those things that put you in the highest probability position to achieve your goals for the reasons that are important to you. So stop letting things outside of your control affect you. Peter Vidmar says he's actually the Olympic champion who said you only need to work out two times when you feel like it, and when you don't feel like it. Let's talk a little bit about effective calendaring, or again, as time management might be more familiar to you. Some of the success principles of any successful person is effectively calendaring. In order to create your ideal life, you must learn to schedule everything and be extremely effective at time management. You should have every minute of your day scheduled with something. It could be scheduled with a break, lunch, a pre-meeting or post-meeting time. It could be scheduled with, I just need a few minutes to run around the block to get my adrenaline and my focus back. I need to jump down and do 100 sit-ups and 50 push-ups or whatever it is that you need to do, but every minute of your day should be scheduled with something. And it could even be scheduled with something called unexpected time. So maybe you have things that come up or occur every day that are unexpected and you didn't plan for that sometimes tend to screw up your whole day. So have something on your calendar that when something unexpected comes up, it goes into that time slot. So you don't have to stop what you're doing to actually respond. When I work with people, I ask them to see their calendar and I'm amazed at how much time, basically on their calendar is empty. I ask several people about what they do or how they feel when they don't see anything on their calendar. And as you might imagine, I get a number of responses. Most of which, if there's nothing there, what are you doing? Nothing, and I'm not sure what I'm doing. Well, I don't really feel confident to really know where I'm going because nothing's there. I'm not sure what I should do next. That's why it's so important to schedule every minute of your day. Schedule each day, the night before, maybe before you leave your office so you know exactly what you're gonna be doing the next day. Ideally, you can schedule your week out, maybe at the end of the week on a Friday. You can schedule reoccurring events. Let's say, let's be bold and schedule them a month out. Then see what happens. If you have to readjust, readjust. If you have to move something, move it. Don't just delete it. One of the biggest things I see is when people put workouts on their calendar and let's say they put an hour. Well, they only have 30 minutes. Oh, so I just deleted and don't do it. Well, 30 minutes is better than nothing. And we all need to make sure we get physical fitness and exercise in with our busy and stressed schedules. The important part of calendaring is first to make sure you're putting the right activities on your calendar. And then obviously honoring that calendar. For most people, this is just really the hardest part to do. Most people let too many distractions or other things get in the way of honoring their calendar. Always put yourself in the highest probability position to achieve your goals. Each activity has a desired result or outcome. So you want to ask yourself, what has to happen to ensure the best possibility that you achieve your desired outcome? Prepare to achieve that goal. So make sure you have time on your calendar that lets you do that. When you calendar certain activities, you will need to calendar time, let's say, to prepare. We talked about maybe pre and post meeting time. Most people don't schedule that time. They do back-to-back meetings without giving themselves time to prepare or come to some conclusion at the end of the meeting for things that they have to do. I can't stress enough the importance of calendaring and honoring your calendar and the impact it will have on your life. You will find yourself more in control of your life. You will be even more efficient. You will be even more confident. You'll be able to give some of that confidence away to other people because you have your life in order. You becoming very effective at time management will have a positive impact on your life personally and professionally. You will be amazed at how much more productive you will be when you apply effective time management in your life. This is an important and key success factor and you must be skilled at maximizing your time if you want to get from where you are now to where you want to be in life. Sometimes when you calendar everything, you might realize that, oh my gosh, there's not enough time in the day to get it all done. I'm sure most of us have had that feeling. So then you obviously have to choose those things that are your highest payoff activities and get better at prioritizing. That's all you're gonna have time for. You can't do it all. That's just the hard truth. Focus on the results you want today. Next week, next month, this year and with every conversation and activity that you do, make sure you do whatever you need to do to wake up each day with extra confidence for yourself and to give away. Believe in yourself and what you do and others will want to do business with you and refer you to other people. Focus on what you can control and do those things and you will be successful personally and professionally. Create your own reality. You can do it.
