What over back J-4 when I was snoring at DP, old school, top of the five o'clock hour, still kind of going over the Nebraska game. But we brought you by the Mercado certified Piedmonttee special ingredients at butcher shop, 84th and half lock, 30th Nikki Hill, 85th and 100 Matt and 168th and maple up there in the O. You know, the one thing I'm reading over the text here and then obviously got a ton of stuff right here, and I'm big. I would say I'm big on, you know, players led teams. Look, man, I think, you know, you know, you got to make sure that the. I would say this and I had that we learned I learned this in high school. And I see was able to kind of be a part of some great teams here. You know, in Nebraska, you know, the teams that I was on, actually this room rings true in some of the guys that had some of the overflow. And, you know, I guess I kind of went through it maybe 94 year or whatever. You know, you know, you don't become a, I guess you don't, championships aren't earned generally sometimes in that first right at the begin. And you got to learn how to be a champion. You got to learn how to move like a champion. You got to learn how to think like a champion. And it might be something that I already do. And then some have to learn and sometimes you have to learn the hard way. And then sometimes you got to bring people along the way. And sometimes you got to kick people off the train when you're trying to do that. And it's not personal, it's just business. And that's I think really if I had to give, you know, really, that's what I feel that Ohio State game was where I think they really learn, you know, or I guess learned and saw it tangible with a championship type of mindset, competitiveness and then nature that you go about the game when you're playing against anybody, but let alone, you know, the best competition. You got to raise your level of preparation, your level of play, your want to. And so you do a lot of positive things. And now you're saying you maybe get a little bit of a taste of the fruit. What is what it's like? What is what it's like? It's probably something that's going to inspire and probably give them some in confidence that they don't even know that they have right now. And so it's a process that you got to go through. It's a process that was talked about over years prior to, you know, Matt rule and staff coming here and, you know, probably was a little bit of a start. Maybe when Mickey took over and stuff like that kind of a type of intensity and letting yourself go and going out there really competing, but then obviously over the last season and a half, it's kind of been something that you've been held to at every, you know, every step of the way. And then when everybody decides or majority of your team decides to say, Hey, let's like bump it. Let's go do this. Let's go see. Let's go see what it feels like. Right. Let's go. Let's go really shoot our shot. It might not be pretty. Obviously, you know, you nobody's going to just dominate. I'll say it's not going to be dominant, but we're going to go out there and shoot our shot. And then sometimes you get their result that what you saw on Saturday, it looks a lot different. It feels a lot different. And so that's definitely a step in the right direction. So it's tangible. It's realistic. You like to bottle it, but then also it's a good thing that you can refer back to when I talk about forgive and forget, you know, you know, I think when you think you're close and, and, and, you know, being in the right place at the right time and, and, you know, you got to tip your hat, you know, I mean, you talk about players making plays might have been, you know, I don't know if it's a busted coverage or not, but you got to think that last that first touchdown with Tate. That's a, that's a, that's once in a season, pitch and catch, you know, you got to tip your hat. Sometimes, yeah, you would like to have two guys back there, but, you know, you had good enough coverage that they had to put a perfect pass with a perfect catch and obviously some good enough coverage that you at times. If it's just a couple yard short, couple yards long, seven points off the board, but they were able to make those plays on the pressure. So you got, you got to tip your hat sometimes because good teams make you make mistakes. And I think sometimes that, that, that gets glossed over to where, you know, people watch the game and they expect when you play against a team, like Ohio State that if you run a hundred plays, all hundred, I'm going to work sometimes a 94 or 33, 44, they got different plans for what you had had planned to happen. And they, and they're some pretty dang good players on across their defensive front. Jay, there was an interesting thing that, that, that happened Saturday where there are a couple of interesting things. But one, going in the fourth quarter and I, I, I peaked over at the stats and Nebraska had, they were plus 13 minutes in time of possession plus 13 equal balance run to pass and had done a really good job of keeping Ohio State. You couldn't keep by the end zone, but you kept them out of the red zone. So they had big plays, which happened. Okay, that's fine. But until the fourth quarter, and I want to say until there were 13 minutes left, Ohio State did not drive inside of Nebraska's red zone. And so there were some things that were happening and you don't have that sort of dominance, especially over our Ohio State team. Without it being on purpose. So, yeah, it's not a lot. Right. Like what and then it leads to the other question. One, you're able to, to, to, to get that sort of ball time of possession control and it's working, whether it's through dink and dunk passes through screen passes that sometimes don't work, but help something else work. It could be that broken plays with Dylan, you know, taken off and moving the chains. But there was some success. You had to feel pretty good about it. What was different? Well, I think, you know, I think both lines had a good day at the office. Obviously a particularly defense line. I think you even look at me. I'll throw MJ Sherman there, but we think Ty Robinson, your Mark Butler, I think your Mark Butler had three or four tackles for losses. Probably could have had another sack. You got sacked by the left tackle there. Ty Robinson got held on another MJ Sherman had a sack, I think, and a couple tackles for losses. So when you think of the defense line, I think they obviously nullified their running attack period. I mean, one of the things that said you got to shut off their run game and then try to get pressure to quarterback. They were able to pressure the quarterback, especially in the first three quarters. But, you know, missed, you know, obviously a lot of, you know, holding calls and opportunities, but they were getting them flustered a little bit. And I felt like the offensive line, you know, played well enough, played well upfront too. Look, they sometimes they got beat, but then Nebraska beat them. They were able to run some different things and get had on the hat and create some run lanes and create opportunities for running backs to have a successful day. And then, and so I think it started to stop there. I felt like across the lines Nebraska probably walked out of there with a W. Matter of fact, not probably. I think they won the line of scrimmage was a perfect, but it's not going to be perfect against Ohio State. That's what people need to understand. When you play against good teams, you're going to get beat. You're you're and it's not because you're not playing against guys that are that you're better than across the board. You're playing against guys that are as good as you and sometimes better in union and you got to compete. And that's what I think is different. Guys were actually competing. You were taking some L's. You were giving out some L's. There was a couple fifty fifties or stalwarts or whatever you want to call them and you were, you know, going back to the huddle and coming back again. That's what was different. The lines both took that approach. And then like I said, the biggest thing that you know, you want Nebraska to, you know, lessen or have that percentage is the direct access percentage. And sometimes, you know what? You just get beat. You just get beat at the point of attack. But I mean, more or less the direct access where, you know, we miss a check or something like that or a run gap or something like that. And then Ohio State started, you know, they stepped up their game. They started to bleed us a little bit in the run game. But I will tell you what, we started to make some plays. We started to make some football plays. We started to make some drive, save and tackles and getting guys on the ground and putting them in situations where they had to make plays. And then they, you know, they beat us on a like a kind of a corner route, you know, one on one against our linebacker and stuff like that. And, you know, tip your hat on. They, you know, you get gotten. Everybody's gotten beat. I've gotten beat before. You know, I've gotten, you know, I've had good coverage, gotten beat. I've had bad coverage and gave up touchdown. And so you want to make sure, you know, that you make sure you look at the game with the right lens. And I think there's also a little bit going to go back to Indiana, right? You know, how Indiana was able to really get off, right? Especially, I guess, offensively. You know, when you walk away from some of those games, and I always go back to when we played San Francisco one night, and I'll tell you, man, we got that. I mean, they were up there up like 21 nothing man before I could even like get a lather. You know what I'm saying? Turn over in our red zone, you know, off tackled touchdown, you know, big play touchdown. And then when you when you go back and watch the film, if you take out like on this case, when I played, it was like four plays, you know, you're pretty even Steven. And so you walk away with a little bit of confidence, like, okay, we don't punch yourself in the face. We give ourselves a punch or chance. And so maybe there was a little bit more of that where they knew that wasn't them out there against Indiana and was a lot of self-afflicted wounds. And a lot of boil over to where if you've got a, you know, couple first downs on offense, then it puts them in Indiana in a different situation offensively because they can't be super aggressive because you're actually closer to their, you know, the back, their backed up across their 50. And so you so you're not playing defense, you're able to play, you know, offense a little bit or if you have offensive type of mindset and you saw it bowl over against Ohio State and listen, don't make excuses for Ohio State. Don't don't don't come tell me that 11 o'clock, you know, and I grant it's not, of course, it's not a night game against Michigan, right? You could say the Ohio State and gave me isn't a night game in Nebraska against Colorado. Don't sit up there and say like, oh, it was 11 o'clock. They were just, they weren't trying, no, no, they were trying, they were getting their butt kicked. And then they started to kick our butt, then we kicked their butt, then they kicked ours and then we went back and forth. It was a heavy way fight. They did not play well. They didn't play it up to their standards. But I would say also neither did we, because we, I like to think that, you know, we could play better as well, but they were able to come out on the on the on the top end. And, you know, get the victory by no means were they out there not trying. They weren't trying. I mean, they were trying, excuse me, and they knew they were in a dog fight. And that's, that's what you want. It was interesting. Jay Jay and I were texting before the game. And he said, what's the vibe? And I said, no, it kind of felt like they were going to the dentist. I'm just watching body language, facial expressions, et cetera, right? Everybody's got a headphone on. Everybody's got your pods on and you're kind of you're watching to see whether eyes are up. Yeah, body language, you can maneuver yourself in a way, but to see how people look at one another. And there really wasn't much communication going on before. And then first hit. And I saw a group of Huskers get to pull together on the sideline before they went out on the field after the, the, the, the bots kick off and then, you know, a couple of your shank punts. You start to see players rally other players. And we've talked about it a couple of times at one Dylan on offense. He just, he just is like, he just is. He has that magnetism on the defensive side to watch MJ Sherman actually challenge some Ohio State lineman. Like to stand up to it. It seemed natural in that space, Jay, to watch. And it's amazing how young people step up to moments and then it's never the same. Well, everybody got that. You get back in a corner or you're feeling embarrassed or you let yourself down. You're going to come out as the fight or flight thing. And so that's where, you know, they were at. And, and, and, you know, I think look very easily the way that game started, you kind of muffled the punt and then you kind of sleep. I think one of the runbacks slipped on the, you know, the exchange with the quarterback. You know, you just kind of got to get you just trying to get going. Right. You're looking for a place where you can grow a rewarding career. Look no further spectrum. A leading connectivity company is hiring near you. Working here means connecting with great colleagues. King supers fresh for everyone. Fuel restrictions apply. Just trying to get into the game. You punt, you know, and you know, what she didn't have his best point. Well, the defense comes out there. And it's again, it's listen, but rarely do you get to answer the bell or a situation that you just had a week before. Right, sudden change, right? We had it last week. Right. We had a fumble. It's sudden change. And then we didn't answer the call. Well, here you are on the road in a in a situation where you very easily could have just pointed a finger and roll over in the defense now, you know, stepped up and was dominant. So it was a mindset thing that that they needed to change and understand everything is a winnable battle. And so, you know, whether it was MJ Sherman, whether it was, you know, Jamari, whether it was Ty or wherever they all they all, the collectively, they had a mindset of this is who we are, and this is what we're going to do. And, you know, sometimes, you know what, to be honest with you, maybe it was, you know, what they needed. I mean, I don't even like saying that, you know, you don't think anybody needs that on national TV. But I think maybe it's something that they needed to, to as a group to understand we and it's not a like it, like a bad thing. Sometimes you have to, you know, you could hear enough, but just say enough. Well, you know, you got to understand that we can go to another level, you know, we can do, we can actually do this. And, you know, and then you could go to another level, you can go be another person when you play on a play football. We can be another, we can be a step or two better. But then also, I think they probably looked at these dudes on tape. It's like, my name is scared of nobody. So I think, you know, right now, they just got a. You know, I think Matt rules said, you know, you got to worry about what we didn't do. And you go in and you're right, you got to fix some of those things and look at it and just get, you know, get executed a little bit better. You got to expect the best shot from UCLA to come in here off a bye week. And, but, you know, I think UCLA, as they watch that game, they know they're in for a dog fight. So you got to make it come to fruition. You got to, you got to get back to the basics and obviously the fundamentals and all that. You don't want to kind of gloss over those because I think it's, it's mentally as much physically right now. And then you, and then you want us to go out and attack the week. And then when UCLA comes out, so you're going to be game playing for them and just go out there and, you know, give them the business that they, you know, can to get. It's going to be. It's, this is, it's, it's Charlie Brown in the football and Lucy. As much as, so again, we break things into the, into the three different compartments of those that feel like, hey, things are good. Things are good. There are people like, yeah, you still, we still don't know. And then the other thirds are going to wait and see you not real sure. But I just see Charlie Brown in football. Man, I hope Lucy leaves the ball down. Let's him kick it. Yeah, I mean, it would be, it would be, you know, stepping the right direction. But then also, I mean, you know, when you think about it, I mean, you know, people, I would say, like, people are going to show up and do a lot of things and have their, their, you know, rotten tomatoes, you know, review already written. So you got to understand is that, you know, you got to go on and earn it. I mean, you know, teams are allowed to get better during the year and teams are allowed to adjust and they're found the rhythm. You know, UCLA look significantly different than what the people, you know, they looked now, now they're looking a bit different than they did early in the season and they're a lot better. They found their rhythm. And then obviously with Nebraska, we've had to find our refined our rhythm, which is last week. And so I think it's going to be a challenge. You can't, you're not going to win games anymore based on what you're something or what, what, you know, is in a magazine because before the season started, you never would have thought Indiana was let alone was going to be eight no and be legit college football playoff contender based on the schedule and what they've, you know, they've earned it. You know, there's no more of what it's right. But on the other hand, you would never expect Rutgers with, with the fanfare that they've had and what everybody thought they would be would be that be where they're at. And so right now you just got to deal with where you're at and you got to be able to make some plays and go out there and beat them. And so you got to find everything's got a weakness UCLA is still the same players and their, you know, the inner rhythm. So you got to find out what they do well, take that away from them. And then we got to be able to take advantage of some of some key opportunities to match up, you know, come Saturday afternoon. I'm just looking forward to the post game. You, Nick Austin, Chancellor post game after win number six. Like, I just want to know what's going to be said. Like Austin's grinning, but I. Jay. I mean, it's kind of the windows more than anything. Yeah, that'd probably be pretty interesting. I mean, it's, you know, it's. You know, it's. When you play a lot of football, you're able to watch the game from a different lens, you know, it's probably something that probably I would say, like, we could, you know, I want to go out and congratulate him, but then obviously let's. You know, let's keep this bad boy moving. You know, let's, let's do it. It's fully what I expect. And when you look at the game with the realistic band lens. Um, you know, sometimes you don't get it at the, at the time that you want it, every time when you get it said that, you know, time is right. So I think it's right there for him, but you got to go earn it. And sometimes this game is a little bit harder than, than, you know, people really know because you can see the, the, the first goal. And you just want to get there. So. Yeah, it'd be interesting. I mean, I think that, you know, as you sit back and really just take a pulse of what people say around the, it's definitely an interesting time for what everybody's trying to get. Everybody's trying to get in where they fit in and try to stay to, to wherever they are, but definitely interest. I want to go to the text line, because this one, this one comes from Rodney's is DP and J. Why are the opposing quarterbacks throwing at such a high, ridiculously high percentage against the black shirts. I mean, I mean, you mean, you mean, you're talking about, well, I'll stay them. They got the best receiver in the nation. And the one to take was, that's a pretty good pitch and catch. That's what happens when you play against good, good players, you're going to get beaten out. You know, I'd probably say, you know, Indiana game, I probably so that's self inflicted. So that's, I mean, when you look at Ohio State. Well, when you, first of all, when you, you're getting your runs shut down, I mean, I would ask you, what do you, because I guarantee you, if, if Henderson. With 32 and one, if they're running up and down the field, then they were like, well, we're not stopping to run. Right. So. They would did a really good job against the run, which made them pass more. And they just hit a couple big plays. I mean, it's, you know, one was, I think, the first one, I think, in my opinion, I think it was a good pitching catch, you know. And then I think the second one, I think we just kind of were a little bit late and, and, you know, covering Smith down the middle. That's on us. And then the last touchdown, I think it was just a, you know, kind of got caught in it in a weird position, or, you know, in a no win situation or weird position. There were some other throws, but they were, you know, they were, there was a couple were, you're right there. Heartstock was right there, single to Atlanta corner and the same route against the linebacker. Yeah, just, I mean, they were, they were made, we made them make plays. And so. I don't think anything to do with, we affected the quarterback, we got to the quarterback. Heck, there's a one play where I think they got 16 yards. And I think it's the one where it's tweeted out the guy had Jamari Butler literally by the neck. That, that by no means is, is not a football play. You, it's at the point of attack because the quarterback would be affected. The referee, the ref was sitting right there. That's his number one job. Obviously to protect the quarterback. And he just forgot to throw the flag. I think he had one job. Yeah, one job. I forgot to do it. So I think it's, I don't think it's anything a concern. I think it was, you know, I think it, they made them made a murder. You know, they got got on a couple of one or two plays. Another one, you know, they just was better on that play. You're not going to be able to shut. You're not going to shut Ohio State down to like 100 yards passing unless they just play absolutely like you just, or like Pittsburgh against Syracuse that night where every tip ball is returned for a six points. I mean, that McCord had three, five interceptions, three of them went for, you know, house calls. And so that's the only way that happens not going to happen, you know, with Ohio State. And so they're able to attack you, you know, every single way and to hold them 21 points is a pretty good job against the runner and or the past, regardless of the perfection that, you know, always look for for the defense but then also what everybody else wants. Yeah, I kind of felt that way that, that, yeah, you're allowing some things you can't take away everything on defense and then when you're playing in Ohio State offense. You're picking your poison and the question is, do you want death by 1000 paper cuts or do you want. You know, do you want to get back in the head? Well, for, for, for, of the 47 offensive plays Nebraska can feel really good about 38 of. Yeah, I mean, it's, but they're going to make plays. I mean, you got to understand you're going to make plays. There's, there's parts of the defense that you're willing to give up and they were making plays and, you know, they call some plays made some adjustments and, and, you know, that's what happened. Look, man, they got, they got great players over there. They got great coaches. They're well coached in school. And so we, so are we, they were able to do some things. I just think that, you know, we could get a little bit better at what we're doing. Obviously, we'll lead to a lot better this week, but then also, you know, take the, you know, the positives and what we did last week as far as really, you know, being dominant up front and really being aggressive and, and you saw some guys look, man, I could tell you, man, you know, getting into blocks, getting off blocks, making plays, playing with the attention to be the best you could be not even worrying about who you're playing against just being straight in it to win it. That's the type of championship mentality because that's going to boil over to practice. So when you, when you boil it over, practice is going to be second nature. And so, you know, I think it's definitely, you know, there's positives in it to it. And obviously, the most, most positive that you want is to win the game, but ultimately, you know, you prove a lot to yourself. Now you want to go prove it to everybody else, you know, amongst everybody else's six wins and then, you know, move on from there. You got four games are definitely winnable. There ain't no doubt about it. And so let's win. If you want to win all four, you can't win all four if you're not until you win the first one, which comes Saturday, I think it's 230. You know, I think the matchup is good. I think it's good to have some for, you know, recent revisionist history of it, keep you motivated, keep you focused, you know, two different games, which are two different types of motivation. And then hopefully it comes to fruition to come third or come Saturday at 230. It's going to be a big one. I, I, I'm going to try not to over hype. In my mind, the importance of winning winning winning win number six of the season. And doing it at home after playing well in air quotes against Ohio State on the road. After recovering from a brutal brutal beat down against Indiana and to come back and to play better and play your best, but you play better. Right. We can dream and hope that they continue to step forward enough. That's that's going to be my phrase for the next several days. I hope that this program goes forward enough. I think they'll be all right. Yeah. I mean, I think it's something that, you know, they got to get back to work. It's Monday. So, you know, games here by what? Four or five days. And so it's good. You know, it's got to be on a pop in here. So I was about to be on a pop. We're going to take quick break. Come back. We'll talk about a little NFL NFL talk, man. We've got the Jets.
