Who was that? Who just slid that arm in? Who was that? Slick Nick, that's Nick. Nick Nick's in here, he's having the day of all days, he's manipulated the itinerary, he's gotten his way, he's gotten out of any responsibilities and then he got to take a picture with his second idol, David Portnick. I was gracious enough to do it, I said he was a fan boy, kind of like when Jake Sorensen was with me down at the Super Bowl and he saw Lydanian Thompson just sat there and looking at him. "Man, go take a picture with that dude, man, I'll do it." You know, I understand what it's like when you meet people that you're admiring, you know, Barstools is here, they got a big setup, so it's been a good, man, it's been a good trip, I'll joke the side. How many times does Nick ask for a picture with you though? I mean, I feel like he should be looking up to you maybe more than he does. He doesn't, it's disrespectful, but it's cool. You know what, I'm cool, you know what, I was this, you can get more done individually when you do it together. Nick has not taken that type of advice, which goes all the way back to Aristotle. He has not taken that type of advice, but or even recognized that he says we're too old. I think you called me a Gen X today. No shot, we didn't call you Wilmer. Well, here's the thing, he was 100% of a fault, a pretty heated argument driving down from one establishment that we didn't get to attend because of his poor planning. Because Nick controlled the itinerary instead of you. Yeah, that's not happening again. Okay. But, but nevertheless though, it was a good, good travel day yesterday. I had a really good show right there with Nick, me and Nick did some stuff last night. Did some stuff this morning, obviously with him in the drive, and then we got some other good stuff going on. And I'm gonna tell you what though, Austin, the Husker fans have traveled quickly and thoroughly here to Bloomington, walked in and I saw one of my good friends. Bill Mischner from the Lighthouse, CEO of the Lighthouse, he came in and there's a ton of Husker fans already here. We came into where we're at here at the tap and the, I guess the manager told Nick, he's like, man, I didn't know you guys traveled like that. So now they're they're Bloomington is going to get blessed with how the Huskers roll. And then hopefully the Huskers continue to roll again tomorrow as well. Nebraska hasn't played Indiana that many times. It hasn't been out to Bloomington that many times since joining the big 10. I mean, all the way back to 2011, this is what second trip out there, third trip out there for Nebraska. Maybe some fans have made the the jaunt for basketball, but definitely not as many as for football. But Indiana, you know, long time big 10 program, I could understand, you know, just a couple hours further than Chicago potentially. You know what, let's make a weekend out of it. The place Nebraska hasn't gone very often. And I think J, it's a surprisingly big game for both teams. I mean, Kurt Zignetti, you know, doesn't lose. He would tell you as much. So I'm sure Indiana expected to be where they were in Nebraska sitting at five and one, probably about fair for the Huskers through the first six games. But nationally, how many people think that, you know, big name kickoff has come into Bloomington for this matchup? Not many Indiana fans obviously went to pack the stadium plenty drivable or easy flight for Husker fans. I'm not shocked that they're making the trip. Yeah, you know, it's it's actually a good drive to where you want to hit Chicago. He's kind of downhill, but the, you know, a lot of construction, but nevertheless, it's a good scenic drive and that makes it a little bit easier. And then you can get out of Lincoln or Omaha and get here in just one day. So it is definitely within drive with distance. And the one thing about, you know, Indiana and Nebraska gets two teams that have in different ways, you know, got to this place and looking straight at each other and looking at the same type of team, right? Whereas, you know, last year, I felt like Nebraska made some waves and kind of sputtered down the end, obviously down to down the stretch. But, you know, really, it looked a lot different. People start taking notice of Matt Rule and how things and how the players and everything look different and how they acted in the play on the field, especially the defense, you know, was, you know, starting to get some national credibility. Then I said we had the recruiting with the flipping Dylan Ryola. And then I would see a great transfer of portal gets and had guys come back because everybody was all bought in. Well, then you had, here's Indiana, right? Where you had Tom Allen, who was essentially on the hot seat, just coaching last year to kind of keep things close was very under, under talented, undermanned as far as, you know, the talent pool that he had, you know, to go out there and try to compete with Ohio states along with that gauntlet of Penn State, et cetera, last year. And he was let go. And he was revered around here. And then here comes Signeti from James Madison, who came in kind of like the same way as actually Dion Sanders, very brash, but just a different way brought 13 guys, I think, with him from James Madison. And now you see them being six and oh, we're five and one. And here's a great thing about it. Also, I know we're doing two segments here. And then, you know, I sent you the prerecorded thing with with Rhett Lewis, who's a famous Indiana Hoosier alum, former great wide receiver here, worked for NFL Network. Funny thing about it, first thing we said, you know, because we do some big 10 work together, we were talking about the Hot Wings Challenge with the two famous actors looking at it, looking at James and look at us, look at us, because we used to have it. Remember when Indiana played Nebraska a couple years ago, we went out to eat and we were at MISTI's and we said, you know, you know, sooner, so hopefully sooner than later, we will be able to have a meaningful game between our two schools. And this was, I think, when Mickey was, Mickey was, you know, interim coach, and obviously Tom Allen was there and we were just like, man, you know, it just seemed like there was no light at the end of the tunnel. And here we are a little bit about a year and a half later. And big new kickoff is here for a reason. And the great thing about it, I think, and me and Nick talked about it last night and obviously, you know, multiple times, you know, traveling is generally sometimes with like a school like Indiana, they're there as like to throw in. This is a, this is a equal battle between two teams that want to get to the same place, have earned it throughout this first six games. And it's going to be a highly contested and competitive game. It's not just a homecoming game, kind of like a formality and nothing else is on. I generally truly think that national eyes are on this game. One, to see, you know, is Indiana for real, because it's Nebraska is probably their best competition and who they, you know, match up wise. And then also, you know, can Nebraska become bowl eligible, but then also take another big step in getting back to national respectability and notoriety. And that's just the way I think that the mat rule would like it, right? Building this program, I think there are plenty of coaches who would say, yeah, they want, they want some pushovers, they want to inflate the record, build some, some confidence. And if you win games, you win games, absolutely. Obviously Kurt Signeti didn't build this schedule. He's only coaching against the teams that his athletic director put on his schedule, but there's been a little bit of chatter of both is it's Indiana, right? Is it really a top 25 team, a top 25 game? Leave history aside for this one, right? Indiana right now is a top 25 team in the country. Don't tell yourself that, oh, this one doesn't really count if Nebraska wins the top 25 game. Indiana's legit, right? And it picked their schedule if you want, but this is a good team. They're, you know, one of the top offenses in the country. Their defense has been even surprisingly salty against some teams to put up some points last year. So if, you know, Nebraska is able to find a way to get things done, like you've said all week, you know, by folks at King Super's pharmacy, care is making it easy to get vaccinated. Visit Colorado first step.org to get started and claim your $115 now. Sing on themselves what they have to do and to take care of business. This will be a legitimate way to get off the Schneider and the the losing streak to ranked teams. This is a good team that Nebraska is facing in that rule wouldn't want a cheap shot, right against someone that's over inflated their record and is just skating by on reputation. Indiana had to earn its way into the poll. Not only did Indiana win games, they've looked impressive in doing it. Voters wouldn't have put Indiana in the polls just because of their record. Look at Vandy. Vandy beats Alabama beats Virginia Tech who is a preseason playoff dark horse. They're not in the polls and they're an SEC team. Indiana is in the polls. This is a legitimate team, but that's not to say they're a juggernaut. That's not to say they're unbeatable. So you have to take pride in doing the hard work to beat a legitimate opponent that's down for the fight, but also you can't talk yourself into. Oh my gosh, it's Indiana. We're so scared. Just take care of yourself. Focus on the opportunity at hand. Go play some good football, see what happens. Yeah, that's exactly there, Austin. I mean, you look, you want to respect them, but don't fear anybody and look the way that they play. They've earned their way to be, you know, up until last week they were ranked number 18 and then they got a promotion. Every usually people get fired or knocked down on their on their week off or day off. They got promotion. They go now their number 16 and so they're legit and and you know, that isn't mean. Look, just a couple weeks ago, Nebraska was it was top 25 or what is it? 23. And so just because Indiana hasn't had a, you know, a gauntlet of a schedule, it doesn't mean that they're not a good team. Look, one thing they've been has been consistent. They've consistently put up points. They consistently have made plays when they need to unoffens defensive special teams. And so therefore they are legit. Look, they look when you have a quarterback plan, like, like Roark is playing in the multitude of receivers that they have, and then also opportunistic defense along with the coach that knows how to win. Give him credit. Doesn't matter what level he's been at. He's been very successful in building teams and building teams to be competitive and winning very quickly. And so he has a process and a plan along with two coordinators that have been with them for over a decade. They know exactly what they're doing, how they want to do it. And that's what they've been able to do at Indiana. But on the flip side, it's great that they've done that. And give, you know, coach, you know, Signeti or Sigzer, you know, what he's known around here, all the credit. But more or less, that you got that you also have to recognize what Nebraska's done and how far Nebraska's came and who they are individually and collectively in know that Nebraska, if they go out there and play good, you don't have to play phenomenal. Like if we were playing Ohio State and play, you know, the game of the century, I think of Nebraska plays good at the end of the day or good or obviously, obviously better than good on Nebraska has an excellence or really, really high percentage chance of pulling up the victory on the road in front of a national audience under the under the lights are, you know, not the lights technically during the day, but under the spotlight, the limelight. And that's what you want, right? And so, you know, I think that where Nebraska is at is a great place. There's no pressure on them. The pressure is on the home team because they aren't used to this. I mean, you got to think they have 50,000 people. They're going to be is going to be sold out. And this is the first time dealing with this type of magnitude of national media pressure expectations, all the interviews during the week, all the people patting you on the back only this week, but the week prior. Yes, you can say it's same as usual, right? Yes, you can say it. But until you really lived it and done it, you don't know. And then also, sometimes when you get to be six and oh, and and and we'll dive into this in the next segment here is you can kind of gloss over some things that are some some I source. Now, look, Nebraska had, you know, has ours as well. But when you have a defense that hadn't given up a first down in the first quarter all season, and then once you get it up against Northwestern, which is not a offensive drug or not, and you gave them up multiple times in Northwestern had the case of the drops under when it was game time. There's some, there's some, you know, some, some hay to be made as far as the offensive led by Dylan Ryla and company. So, you know, I think it's a great opportunity. You know, I'm excited to see what everybody does. And it's great to see both teams out there. You know, I have a affinity for Rhett. He's really helped me out in my career, but ultimately, you know, he's the enemy this Saturday. I told him that listen, I like Bloomington. I can see why he came here. It's a great little college town, but more importantly, you know, we are going to, you know, obviously come in here and probably spoil their, I think, his homecoming for him, along with some other things. So, you know, it's a, it's a, it's a good time for Nebraska. It's a, it's a game that Nebraska should feel once they arrive or if they've already arrived that they are their favorite. They control their own destiny. And then when you go from there, you know, it is coming down who can, you know, stay out of their own way and make the plays that need to be made to win the game. I'm going to touch on something you just briefly mentioned was that, that Signeti came in a little bit like Dion Sanders, right? Doesn't have that, that reputation to the same degree. But I think Coach Sanders and Coach Signeti are the same way, not in that they're, they're front runners. So don't get this twisted, right? I think they're legit dudes that believe what they're saying. I think they operate best when they're instilling that attitude of confidence into their programs, into themselves. That's who they are. That's who they've always been. And it makes sense. Think about Dion, the player he was taking over Jackson State, HBCU, and then a down in the dumps Colorado program. That's not a program that needed humility. Same with Indiana, right? Pockets of success here and there, but really a bowl game was great for that football program. Think about where Signeti came from. Little old James Madison competing with a lot of talented programs and universities with a lot of money in that area. You had to act confident at a place like James Madison and bring that with you to Indiana. And on the flip side, I'm not going to say Matt rules not confident and not speaking confidence into his team, but I think the general air around Nebraska was one of confidence. So I think Matt rules, humility, hard work hammering those basics landed better maybe with this fan base and this group of players on the team. So I think this is a fascinating clash of leadership styles like we saw in week two against Colorado. I think it's a similar sort of, I don't say chess match, but kind of mental game between Matt ruling and Kurt Signeti. Yeah, I mean, they know each other. I mean, all these coaches know, you know, who they are, but also when you when you look at Dion Sanders in Colorado and you look at Indiana and Signeti, this is what they needed. This is what they need. You need that type of brashness at a place like Indiana and or Colorado or something like that. And also those two coaches, when you have that type of confidence in yourself, when you're trying to steal it into, you know, the small masses at these two two different places, you have to hand pick places like that, right? Which is Indiana, Colorado, because they need it so much. Now, when you look at with coach rule, when he came in after Mickey was an interim coach, it was in a better place, especially better way better than Colorado, probably a little bit better than Indiana because of the players on the team that had to, you know, you know, essentially play through a lame duck head coaching in Tom Allen. Everybody knew it was just a matter of time. It wasn't if it was just when. So the situations were drastically different, but the personalities match up perfectly between Matt Rule and Nebraska, Signeti and Indiana. That's why we're having one team in Nebraska, five and one and Indiana six and oh, first time being bowl eligible almost or this soon in almost like 40 or 50 years. And so that's why how you get big new kickoff and that's why you have a big game. And then that's how you get old school live from remote and then a tap in Bloomington, but awesome. We're going to take a quick break, come back. We're going to dive into, you know, forming for four keys to win into the next, never tomorrow and then we'll turn it over. But yeah, it's a good game, man. I think this is a game once we come after breaking when you look at these four things I've been thinking about for a while. Hopefully two or three goes in Nebraska way and then we'll be a bowl eligible heading back. So with that being said, Jay Forman, Austin Orman, old school coming that you live from the tap, we'll be right back after a quick break.
