(upbeat guitar music) That's the way. (upbeat guitar music) (upbeat guitar music) - It's gonna go tight, so don't change up some things, but I'm gonna leave that going. I hate to break up. I hate to break up a memory. (upbeat guitar music) - It's not about me. (upbeat guitar music) - Maybe I just couldn't have one big bit. (upbeat guitar music) (upbeat guitar music) - Oh no, who's got Psalm 16 today? While you got Psalm 16 today? - I'm sorry. - I'll tell you, they're probably in reverse-inism at this point. - Well, we didn't come in reverse-in, but we weren't a week before. (upbeat guitar music) - Psalm 16, I remember that from my favorite one from last week, Psalm 15, but we'll go with it. - You sure? It's not certain things? - No, I'm pretty sure it's Psalm 16. (upbeat guitar music) - Oh, okay. (upbeat guitar music) - Psalm 16, 16. (upbeat guitar music) - Preserve me, oh God, for I take refuge in you. I said to the Lord, you are my Lord. I have no good besides you. As for the saints who are in the earth, they are the majestic ones in whom it's all my delight. The sorrows of those who have bargered for another God will be multiplied. I shall not pour out their drink, offering of blood, nor will I take their names upon my lips. The Lord is a proportion. The Lord is a portion of my inheritance and my cup. You support my life. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me. I will bless the Lord who has counseled me. Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. I have set the Lord continually before me because he is at my right hand. I will not be shaken. Therefore, my heart is glad and my glory rejoices. My flesh also will dwell securely. For you will not abandon my soul to shield, nor will you allow your holy one to undergo decay. You will make known to me the task of life in your presence and fullness of joy. In your right hand, there are pleasures forever. - Can I get profundities? Any point? - Well, I mean, it's communion day and it says, the Lord is a portion of my inheritance and my cup. - That would be a very good communion service passage, won't it? Anybody else? - No, I was looking up a little bit. 'Cause you have the same time as months and time. Yeah, I should be, I'll have a title, which is the title. - Is Mick Tam, Mick Tam? - Yeah. - Mick Tam, Mick Tam. - Oh, David, I don't know what that is. - This is probably a musical for... - So I've got my USB for... - Matter of fact, matter of fact, I think we were listening, we had a Bob the other, we call it, we haven't a Bob. So we had a Bob the other day, I think Pastor Bolander even said, I don't know what Mick Tam is. - Yeah, I think he said that too. So he even said, you don't know what that is in the title. He has also said these titles, maybe it's in the ESV, but the numbering is off, the numbering starts with the title. And like the New America standard, the numberings off just one. Because it moves up, because they actually put the one, like an ESV bother do, you can tell me about that, whether or not it's the any ESV if the numbering is different. - I definitely feel like whatever that is, and I think, tell me, whatever it is, I feel like it has something to do with foreshadowing. - Shattering? I think it could be, but I think it's more with a musical instrument. - What are we looking at? - Mick Tam. - Well, there's one. Mick Tam in the title, in the title. I also see in here, bless, I will bless the Lord. That bless is mean salute or worship or give adoration to. It's not like we're going to bless the Lord or in a sense that we do something for him or whatever. It's a salute, a reference. On here it says, possibly Epi-Gramatic poem or atonement song. - Is that what it is? Okay. (audience member speaking off mic) (audience member speaking off mic) (audience member speaking off mic) - Somebody else's point now. Um, this, where it says, I said to the Lord, you are my Lord, and your Bible spell is different. You either have all capital letters and then you have Lord, which is not capital letters. You've got Jehovah, so I said to the Jehovah, you are my Adonai. - What verse? - I'm sorry. - Two. - Oh, okay. - An Adonai is like a title, like this is coming forth, so he said like George Bush, President Bush, he said his name is Bush, but President's the title. So Adonai is like the title in Jehovah. - Lord. - Yes, is his name. - I'd understand that, I don't know if R.C. went over there, but the Jews don't say Lord or Yahweh, they say Adonai. - Okay. - Well see, I don't know, so that's why they said Jehovah. I mean, I think they would say Yahweh. - Yeah, yeah, I don't think they say Yahweh, that's why they say Adonai, Adonai, and you do that. As for it, I could be correct on that. But you have two prophecy on that. You have prophecy on two. When Jesus told him, you know, you know, when he asked him a question, he said, who was this when it was that my Lord said to his Lord, you know, talking about David, or talking about David saying that my Lord said to his Lord about the father and son, whose son is he, Jesus said. And then over on verse 10, you will not abandon my soul and sheal. Cheal, nor will you allow your holy one to go under and under to go under and decay. So that's another prophecy out of that one. Whoa, prophecy in 16 there. All right, hour, anything else? Ready on right, ready on the left, all ready on the far in line. All right, hour, prayers today includes Rob Richardson. Please put it on your prayer list. Rob Richard, and this is already on in your handout, so you could go ahead and put a check beside that and anything else you have. Rob Richardson, master on his stomach, a point of contact with my brother. He's going, Rob is going for a biopsy next week to see if it has cancer or whatever it is. I guess you can have stomach cancer, so we're praying for him on that. Michael's also praying said, add on prayer list. And Rob Richardson is Zach's father. Zach is a Lindsey's husband. Am I my niece? What's that? Zach Walsh. Yes, Zach Walsh. Oh no, Zach or Rob Richardson. Zach Walsh is a friend and he mics, and so he's got cancer, praying for him. Bob Bolander, he's going to have an his kidneys checked. While back, I guess 30 some years ago, they saw some minor, we'll just say, Abigua T's with it. He said that doctors, it wasn't so concerned with it then, but it's more so now, so being prayer for Pastor Bob, so it's nice to talk to him. He's becoming a great friend. And then Robbie Dean's going for what I did. Same thing I went through. I don't even know what to call it. It's not catheterization or catheterizing, but whatever, they're running cameras up to his heart to check, make sure his heart's okay. So they're looking for that as well. Katie's mom, out of the hospital now, right? Okay, out of the hospital. She's got a different health issue, so be with Katie's mom for put that on your prayer list. And myself, I'm taking it easy this week. I had some, I went from the VA to one hospital to another hospital and they ran some heart checks, got partial blockage and I don't know, whatever, arteries they might have told back of what names or the arteries they had, but nothing real serious to get a stent or anything, but they put me on medicine and looking to get it broken up and get it cleared. One thing I did learn, and I'm not gonna go through that, but we'll close that with that. So anyway, let's do this. Who wants to open us up in prayer this morning? Okay, I volunteer. Let's start in prayer here. Father in heaven, we love you, we praise thee this morning. Pray that you open our hearts to the things that we're about to study as we get into this book of Revelation and as we continue in our evening services on our road to Revelation, our survey through the Bible. Pray, Heavenly Father, that you open up our hearts. I be with our loved ones. Be with Michael and Terry and their worship up in Maryland. We pray, Heavenly Father, that you open up, be with Pastor Steve for venue. Pray, Heavenly Father, that they can find some sound, Bible teaching up there and worship in your word. I pray, Heavenly Father, for those that are not with us today, we ask, Heavenly Father, that you be with them and strengthen them, be with Robert Richardson, the mass in the stomach. I pray for that biopsy will come up negative and that it can be treated with your healing hands. We pray for Zach Walsh and his cancer. We pray for a mission there and Bob Bollinger for his kidney issues. I ask, Heavenly Father, to whatever the issue is that your healing hands be upon him and Robbie Dean, that all will go well tomorrow in his test and Katie. And I pray, Katie's mom, we ask, Heavenly Father, that you'll be with her. And I pray, Heavenly Father, whatever she needs to remission, be with both her parents. I pray this morning that you open up our hearts to the study of your word. I pray that this time together and communion will be a source of blessing and challenge as we continue to worship the in Christ's name we pray, amen. Our opening hymn this morning will be what a day that will be. So let us stand and join in. Amen, I don't think that, do I? Amen, amen, do we have a, what, do we have a hymn number on there? No. No, I don't think that's in there, I can look. All right, I'll tell you what, let's go with it. Yeah, we'll do that. There we go. There we go, so close. There we go. [MUSIC PLAYING] There is common pain when the heart, the angels come. No more clouds in the sky. No more tears you can't be out. All is peace, the wrath of the Lord. All of the happy, golden joy. One day, glorious day that will be. One day, I believe, when my Jesus, I shall see. And I look upon His face, just no one who saved me by His grace. Many days, me by the He, had made me prove to them all the same. One day, glorious day that will be. [MUSIC PLAYING] There we go, some are there. No more prayer than things to care. No more sayings you can't be. No more hearting over there. And forever I believe, when the light, the eye, for me, and for the day, glorious day that will be. [MUSIC PLAYING] One day, that will be, when my Jesus, I shall see. And I look upon His face, no one who saved me by His grace. Many days, me by the He, had made me prove to them all the same. For the day, glorious day that will be. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] Hey, babe, you can take your seat. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [LAUGHS] [MUSIC PLAYING] All right, boy, we are in the book of Revelation. We will continue on with our Bible survey on Tuesday evenings. I don't want to get away from that, but I missed going by verse by verse study. And so, yeah, I'm sure you have as well. So let's break it down. And today is also our communion service. And so let's start out. We'll read Revelation chapter 1 here, and then we'll start breaking it down. Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond servants, the thing which must soon take place. He sent and communicated to His angels to His bond servant John, who testified to the Word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that He saw. Blessed is He who reads the-- reads, and those who hear the words of the prophecy and heed the things which are written in it for the time is near. John, to the seven churches that are in Asia. Grace to you and peace from Him who is and from-- and who is to come in from the seven spirits who are before His throne. And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first born and the dead and the ruler of the kings of the earth, to Him who loves us and releases us from our sins by His blood. And He has made us to be a kingdom or priest to His God and Father, to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever, amen. Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him. Even those who pierced Him and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him, so it is to be, amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Verse 9, "I, John, your brother and fellow protectors of tribulation and kingdom and perseverance, which are in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud sound, like a sound of a trumpet saying, write in a book what you see and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamum, to Thyartire, to Sardis, and to the Philadelphia, and to Laod Cia. Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me, and having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands. And in the middle of the lampstands, I saw the one like the son of man clothed in the robe, reaching to the feet and girded across chest with golden sash. His head and hair were white, like white wool, like snow. In his eyes a flame of fire, his feet were like burnish bronze when it was made to glow, and when it has been made to glow in a furnace. And his voice was like a sound of many waters. In his right hand, he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp two edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in its strength. When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid, I am the first and the last, "and the living one, and I was dead. "Behold, I am alive forever more, "and I have the keys of death and of Hades. "Therefore write the things which you have seen, "and the things which are, "and the things which will take place after these things. "As for the mystery of the seven stars, "which you saw in my right hand, "and the seven golden lampstands, "the seven stars are the angels and the seven churches, "and the seven lampstands are the seven churches." And I have to look at this, and as I'm reading this passage here, I think of Martin Luther is the hero of the Reformation, and the one thing that he spoke of is that he thought, and I don't have the quotes on there, but he really thought that the revelation was like a waste of time. It was for a number of different reasons, and whatever the excuses were, it's either a part of scripture, it's not. But when it is God that tells, when it's the Lord Jesus Christ who tells John, write this in a book, and when it's to us, it certainly is now a waste, it's certainly not. And once again, I don't have those quotes, it just comes to me that this book is a maligned book, it is a book that preachers do not like to discuss or do not like to teach. When the book itself talks about the blessing that comes from those who read it, and those who hear it. And so let's begin, I've got this set up here a little bit, just to get a little bit on the notes here, there we go. And so we begin this morning with the first, first, first, first, first, the first verse, with this revelation of Jesus Christ, Apokolipsis Yeshu Kristu. And that first word is Apokolipsis. And Apokolipsis means to reveal, to disclose or to make known. And I think of kind of like the movie theater, when we were young, I love, you know, I brought this up several times over the course of studies. But with the coming of, and pretty much about the glorious darkness, how things get dark before the coming of the Lord. But when I think Becca can kind of test this, I can attest this, we live, right now we live in a time where whatever movie you can, you can flip on TV and you can see whatever movie you want to. But back in the day, to see a movie, that was a treat. And you'd go and you'd sit there and you'd be watching a movie or you'd be waiting and it might have five, ten minutes and you just couldn't wait. And John Wayne's getting ready to come. Clint Eastwood or somebody. We'd get ready to watch this movie, or maybe even Chuck Norris. But they would always have the curtain. They'd have the curtain in your day. They'd have the curtain. It was the dramatic, the curtain would be closed on the screen, and then the lights would go down and the curtain would open up. And this is kind of like what is going to be in the future history, the revealing the disclosure, the opening up of the disclosure. And that's what the revelation is. And it's the up here, revelation of Jesus Christ. The up here, if you look at it as a subjected genitive in the Greek, the genitive's usually off. When you get a genitive, you can put an "of" in front of it in the Greek. Like you have here, you ace your crease through and the genitive. But genitive can also be about, it can be about. So this can be the revelation about Jesus Christ. And this, there's two events. What's an advent? I should ask you the question. What is an advent? An advent? Advent, you have a first advent and second advent. What's the advent mean? Age? No. Means coming. Coming, advent means coming. I'll put that on test questions sometime. Advent means coming. And Jesus is first coming. Very quiet, very unassuming. It's where we get to-- we get this on Christmas. We have those nice and gentle songs. You got a nice-- what do you call them? Nice-- what do you call the kind of a calm music? Soothing. Soothing. OK, soothing. OK, we call it soothing. But you have the Silent Night or Holy Night. What else, a little town of Bethlehem? Or I think it's a little town of Bethlehem? So I kind of like the more vicious one. But it's funny, but you have the other song, Joy to the World. Well, actually Joy to the World is more about his second coming than his first coming. Yeah, that's a robust song. So I'm saying here that his first coming comes so-- his first advent comes so unassuming, so quiet, so tranquil. And he comes as the quiet, gentle lamb. Not the second. Not the second advent. Second advent is going to be far from that. It will be a time when the lion is going to be revealed. The lion of the tribe of Judah. And listen, a lion doesn't come in all gentle like and everything. He comes in in a fury. And it's going to what the Lord is going to do with sin. Something we learned just the other day, back in the eye, learned the other day. I don't know if we've learned it or it was a reminder. You know how the-- how you hear that saying, the little saying that God hates the sin or God loves the sinner but hates the sin. Bible doesn't say that. Bible doesn't say that. The Bible says this, Psalm 5, 5, "The postal shall stand before your eyes. You hate all who do iniquity." This is David speaking. "You hate you, the Lord, hate all who do iniquity." Psalm 11, 5, Psalm 11, 5, "The Lord test the righteous and the wicked and the one who loves violence, his soul hates. Upon all wicked, he will reign snares. Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup. For the Lord is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright will behold his face. Revelation is a time in which the righteous wants long for. I've had people ask me. You've probably had people ask me. You ever have somebody ask you if the question of God exists, how comes there's so much evil in the world? How come God doesn't do something about the evil? How come there's death? How come there's sin? How come there's bad things happen to good people? I just heard somebody say you could ask the question right back to him. OK, let's say there's no problem. Why is our all this bad stuff happening? Shouldn't we be accountable for this? And then step into that. OK, so if there is a guy, I have will out this to get this back. And do you think he's upset with us? It was an interesting, sad way in the conversation. No, I've never had that question asked. But I've heard you say it. But yeah, it's necessary to say that we are the ones who allowed it with our free will. Yeah. When you have the-- He granted free will. He didn't grant us evil and all that. We grant that to ourselves. I guess you can say that. But what you said, with having free will, there's also a responsibility for properly using our free will. And there's consequences for using that free will negatively. They're right grades. So there is a reason. And there is accountability. We live in a time now where people think where their evil is running rampant. And it's funny. You get evil in the time of our day. And it will speak louder and louder and louder. They're building a indictment on ourselves. But because God is quiet, they are just expressing themselves saying, hey, we can do anything that we want. But there is coming a time. So I was asked when God is going to get fed up. And I don't know about the vocabulary saying God's going to get fed up, but he has a time. He knows the time. And he has that. So we have the opportunity. Every day we have the opportunity to repent. But there's coming a time when the Lord says, boom, that's it. The door of the ark is going to close. And so at the point of the second coming, the revealing-- and that's going to be the revelation. That's going to be the revealing. That's going to be the disclosing of the Lord Jesus Christ. And it's going to be the answer to all these people that deny that God and Jesus and all that. It's going to be the answer to those who have persecuted the righteous. It's going to be the answer to all those that have used the free will to go against God. And the door to the ark will be closed. And those who have despised God and rejected God's salvation plan, it's going to be a day of reckoning. It's going to be a day when-- it's going to be the biggest gulp in all of human history, and the Lord and Peter said that this-- that it will be just like in the days of Noah. They were eating, and they were drinking, and marrying until the flood came and took them away. Nothing wrong with eating. Nothing wrong with drinking. Nothing wrong with marrying. But to do all these things apart and at the absence of God in your life and dismissing him-- and basically it's saying, I'm going to go about my way, and I'm just going to dismiss God. What do you say these days? I'm going to dismiss God. I'm just going to ignore God. I'm going to go about my daily routine and stuff. And then finally, the salvation is finally the flood comes. And you see, the gospel out there is a warning. The gospel out there is a-- it's good news that-- and that's probably what Noah and the ark was a big billboard sign saying judgment is coming. The open door on the ark was a welcome. Come on in. Salvation is available. But there is coming a time. And who closed that door? God closed that door. And when that door is closed, remember what the Lord says. Whatever the Lord-- whatever Lord shuts, no one can open. He opens, no one can shut. And that door is shut. And it's the sealing doom of those because that's time. Time is a great commodity. And time is going to run out. And this is going to be the revealing of the judge. He came as our Savior. And John says that he did not come into this world to judge the world, but he came in to save the world. That's his first advent. But the second is he's bringing his wrath with him. Another thing I should point out is that this is a singular revelation. I think you all know this for you. That this is not revelations. If you ever teach in class, don't call it revelations. I don't know if they do that anymore. If you still say it, we're in revelations. Why do they say that? Why do they call it revelations? Yes, because I think it's a bunch of different events. And so they don't think it, but this God is all one. This God controls me all. It's calling. Thank you. Well, they're just not grammatically structured. Yeah, I mean, you know, they just, it's easy to say about violations, because a lot of the other ones you know, you've got Psalms, Proverbs. Psalms, this is Psalms. Is that Psalms? No, it's Psalms. I guess it's translation. You're right. There's so much going on. You've got the breaking of the seals. You've got the bold judgment. You've got the seal. What you got? More at the beginning. You got. The Psalms of the. That's the book of Psalms. Each one of the Psalms. Anyway. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. We got that dissipated from Psalms as a Psalm or Psalms. But there's so much going on. I mean, bold judgment, and you got the bold judgments. You got the trumpet judgments. You got the seals going on. You got the Antichrist and what he's doing here, wars, famines, floods. You got some earthquakes. You got so much going on. He has to be revelation. No, it's revelation. One revelation. All of this is it. What's that? The revelation. The revelation. All of this. Yeah. Thank you. The definite article here. The revelation. I like that. Because that deep kind of puts a stomp on it right there. Any revelation about Jesus Christ, the revealing of the Lord Jesus Christ. And this is setting up for the time. And all of this encompasses one event. All of this is about one event. It is the coming, the second advent of the Lord Jesus Christ leading up to it. And so all of this is centered around that. So truly there is very active and there's going to be a little pause. This book is, I mean there's very little rest throughout this book. At the beginning he talks to the churches, talks to him about the warnings and all. For those that, you know, his evaluation of the churches. But once John is in heaven and he's, and he's seeing these things and these things being revealed to him, it is, it is a sequential and rapidly moving book. So, all right, let's come on back to our passage here, bring this up. All right, the revelation of Apokalupus, again, what does Apokalupus mean? Revealing or disclosure, revealing or disclosure, and here up there on the screen, you've got Yeshu Kristu and, what's that? Not revealing because that means it's already been, revealing, not feeling. You got to say trouble last time with the song, shut up, right? It's unveiling, because it wouldn't be revealing because that means it's already been shown. I know, revealing means to disclosure, to reveal, to disclosure. I'm going to reveal to you some bit of information here that I'm going to reveal to you what revealing means, to make known that revealing to, to, like I said, something that has been, let's play like this. Okay. I'm glad you tore it up. Well, I just thought about that because I had said revealing and I was, no, that's not getting a semantics. It's something that lays, something that has been hidden for a long time and now has been revealed, has been brought out into the open. Okay. Okay. Make known. Okay. So. I was just wondering if what we're being revealed is some of what Daniel had to. Oh, absolutely. I mean it was to be closed up. Okay. Very good. And I don't have, if you have the verse there, it's at the end, at the end where Daniel, it might be at the end of 10, but just tell me, but Daniel, and thanks for bringing that up unless you want to expand on it. You want to expand on it? But yeah, you brought that to mind Daniel wanted to know more, show me more, show me more. And the Lord said, no, we see, I'm going to seal up the prophecy. I'm going to seal that up. If you have the verse there, that'll be great. If not, I'll have it for you next Sunday. Um, never mind me on it, but this prophecy is being sealed up. You know, that, that's waiting for it to be unveiled later on. You've heard enough Daniel and Daniel wanted to know more, but he said, no, no more. It's a 12 eight starts as for me, I've heard, but I understand. So I said, my Lord, what will be the outcome of these events? He said, go your way, Daniel, for these words, you're concealed and sealed up until the end time. A 12 eight, 12 nine, so this is the until the end times. And that's what we're talking about. The end of the age right here, revelation, once again, is going to bring together. And it's Jesus is going to do it. I get on my high horse on this. I get on my soapbox on this, but we are not living in the kingdom now, folks. The church is not here to establish the kingdom. The kingdom will be established when Christ returns. And this is what this is all about. All right, revelation, the revelation of revealing the disclosure of Jesus Christ. Jesus is his, the name of his humanity. What does Jesus mean? The name Jesus, you will name him Jesus, for he will, he will save his people. He will save his people as equivalent is Joshua in the Old Testament. And it means Jehovah, Jehovah is savior for salvation, Jehovah is salvation. And Christos, what is Christos? Christos is title anointed one. What are the three offices that a Old Testament figure was anointed to? If you held one of these three offices, you had to do what, priest King and prophet. And these were anointed offices, and Jesus is all three. He is priest, he is prophet, and he is king. So it is Yaisu Christu, that would be the text in there, but it would from the Yaisus and Christos. Okay, which God, we're moving on, which God gave him, let me see if I got anything else on here, is which God gave him. This is revelation that is given to the Son by the Father. It is revelation, something given from the Father to the Son. And in view of the hypostatic union, Jesus is still in his hypostatic union. When he comes back, his title, he is the Son of God, but he's also the Son of David. He's also the Son of Man, and Daniel, you'll see that the prophecy of the Son of Man coming in the clouds. And Jesus, right now we have a human representative sitting somewhere in the heavens at the right hand of the Father, a human representative. Now Jesus, in his hypostatic union, remember what hypostatic union means, that he is God and he is man and one person forever. And so he's still that. So there are that which the Son of Man is given something, the Son of Man, the title of Jesus and his authority there. He is given revelation from the Father and in his hypostatic union as man there are limitations. We find that in Philippians 2, 5, and 9. And there are limitations there. Remember kenosis, go ahead, emptying, I like restricting better to restrict the free use of his divine attributes, if that means that he does away with him. But when we say restricting, that means he still has him, they're just unrestricted form. As the God man, his humanity doesn't call upon his deity, or let's just say they're not without mixture, his humanity and his, though he's one person, they are kind of hard like the Trinity. Seems simple but hard. They're without mixture. What is human is human, what is, what is divine is divine, they're both 100% in one person forever. So when Jesus did a miracle, I'm reading in between the lines here, when the girl touched him and it took it out of him, he noticed something had left him. So it's just an interesting thing to exercise divine power, it taxes the humanity. It's good, outreach, I think. And yeah, but there was a lot also in there. And when he did the miracles, when he did the power, it was by the power of the Holy Spirit and he depended upon the Holy Spirit as we would be dependent upon the Holy Spirit. As God, he was God. With that and other things, I think every once in a while, to a very select few, he demonstrated his deity. He demonstrated to like the calming of the storm. It also shows his identity that he was the God from the beginning, the one who brought the flood to begin with, the judgment from the beginning. So the point is that even in, he's still in his hypostatic union, even at the right hand of the Father. He is the unique person of the universe. And here's something that of revelation, this is revealed, this is given to Jesus, and he's going to pass this on. This is something we see in Matthew 24, 36, but of that day, this is Jesus speaking, but of that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the son, but the Father alone. And it is the Father that reveals the truth to the Son. One of my favorite, I probably the favorite Isaiah passage is 50, verse four and five. The Lord God has given me a tongue of disciples that I may know how to sustain the weary one with the word. He awakens me morning by morning. He awakens my ear to listen as a disciple. The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not obedient, nor did I turn back. Scripture tells us in Luke that Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature. God doesn't grow, nor does God grow in wisdom because God knows all the knowable, but the humanity does. John 5.20, this is Jesus also, for the Father loves his son and shows him all things that he himself is doing. And the Father will show him greater works than these, and that you will marvel. John 4.34, Jesus said to him, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work." One thing I thought of here, sometimes you think of time, and I'll throw this out because it just came to mind. You used to say when the Father gave him this, when was it that the Father gave this revelation to his son, was it prior to the cross? I mean, he has it now, or he has it, and is it something that Jesus had for some time? And now he's going to disclose this revelation. So we don't know, we know that, but we know what Jesus has, it was given to him by the Father. It was revealed to him, and the plan was revealed at some point. Maybe it was an eternity past, I don't know, unless that goes against him, not even the son knows the day nor hour. But it's so hard to nail down and explain the eternity. If you've seen Jesus, if you've seen his undo, if you've seen his father, but you can't, Moses can't, you can't see God, nobody can stand before the glory. Jesus doesn't know the time. So Jesus doesn't embody the permissions. He does, but he restricts that use. Because as God, he knows all things. But he is one person, and he restricts those, and that was what kenosis is. And you say, emptying, if God empties himself of anything, he's not God, he's immutable. So in that person, yeah, you're right. It's like Trinity, it's so easy to explain, so difficult to understand. Amen, and I'm going to say amen to that, I really am. Because if we could figure out the mysteries of God, God would not be God. I believe, you know, can I clearly, am I going to, I'm still working on salvation. And you know, there's been times when I've said that, you know, I don't know nothing. And he's the, it is the fool, not only says he doesn't believe or a fool that says that there is no God, the fool also says things that he knows everything that there is to know about God. Yeah, I can explain to Trinity. I can explain that I protect you. To a certain degree, I can bring you along, but there's always going to be questions. Amen. What he was saying that we met that day, okay, okay, put K on your prayer list too for wisdom. Yeah, exactly. Okay, K was quick, K was quite the motivator. All right, but let's move on. So man would know nothing apart from God revealing it and God reveals it through his son, who is the logos of John one, and somebody can give me John, John one and pass the chip. We know so well, but he is the mediator. And so he is the one who stands between us and God, and John one, John one, one. Yeah. Yep. Yep. That's it. But you can go ahead with it. In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and apart from him, nothing came into being that has come into him, and him was life, and the life was the light of man. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not come prehanded. Okay. That revelation also, going back, you can also say that revelation is a revealing, and like the Lord caused the blind to see shedding light on ignorance, and so forth. Logos not only means word, and it does, but it also means message. The Lord Jesus Christ is the message, himself embodies the word, embodies the message. In the Old Testament, it was to preincarnate Lord Jesus Christ, who was, who is the angel of the Lord, the messenger, the melech of the Lord, Lord God. So Jesus Christ is the messenger on that. He is given the message, and he communicates it to those who are his. So you want to know about the truth? Jesus is the truth. He says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. And listen, and we're going to see this, this is through those who belong to the Lord. This message is not to the unbeliever. This is something that you cannot convince and reveal to the unbeliever. This is our message, this is that which is given to us. Jesus Christ is the word, and then Genesis 1 and 3, God said, and God said, and Jesus is the word, I don't know, I always just kind of put those together almost like Jesus is the one that does the end. And that's what Bob said, that's Pastor Bolander brought that up, he said that God speaks, the Father spoke, the Son executed, the Father spoke to the Son, and the Son executed that. He said, and God spoke, and there was light, and Jesus Christ is a light that comes into the world, and it's God who sends his Son into the light, so that's something else we can expound on, and you know, easily explain, but goes into that, but I like it. Alright, so it is our Lord, okay, and John 14, 6, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life that no one comes to the Father but through me. He is the open door that we walk through, he is the living water, he is the bread of life, and so if we want to know revelation, we must know the one who is connected to God. You cannot know God, you cannot know the things of God apart from knowing his Son. That that would be the great opening right here for the Gospel message, that Jesus Christ provides eternal life for you, for anyone that trusts in him for, without the Son you have your love, without the Son you know, you can know nothing of God, you're not in that family, and through Jesus Christ by believing in him, that you do have eternal life, that you are born again, into the family of God. If you don't know Jesus, you cannot know God is the purpose here, okay, moving on. To show, coming up, yeah, here we go, to show, and that Daikum Daikum, I had this right this morning, Daikum, I can't say it now, I had this morning, but anyway, to show, and that show, to make known the character or significance of something by visual, auditorial, gestural or linguistic means, to make known, to demonstrate, to show, and Daiknumi, Daiknumi, that's what it is, Daiknumi, Daiknumi, okay, the new Upsilon, that's new, okay, the Daik D, Daik is Delta Epsilon, Yoda, Kappa, that's Daik, the, look down at the dictionary form on your notes, the dictionary form is different, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, we're looking at the dictionary form, okay, and it's Daiknumi, okay, so Daiknumi is to make known, the character or significance or visual of something by visual, auditorial, gestural, or linguistic means, to make known, to demonstrate, to show, he's showing something, he's demonstrating something, we look at the world today, we look at the wickedness, which is on full display, and I'm not even going to list them, I'm not even going to, I'm not even going to, I'm not even going to lay that, you know how ugly this world is, if you don't know, you've got your head in the sand, there are people who leave their TVs on all the time to catch the news constantly, it's a constantly drum beat, but, and it's, it's, it's completely ugly out there, but, and again, you go back to the statement, if God exists, how come all this, how come all this is, is with us, how come, how come He doesn't do anything about it, and the, and we see the righteousness, how, how His righteousness is being traveled, and it breaks our heart, and it, and one way, another way, it makes us look stupid, and we're asking how long Lord, we're going to see, and when, when the persecution of the saints and those who have been persecuted, they're going to be under, they're going to be at the altar, under the altar, and they're going to be crying out, how long Lord, how long, and we're asking that question, how long Lord, will they continue to trample your holy name and your righteousness, but the Lord says, okay, I'm going to let you in, I'm going to let you in, your mind, I'm going to show you something, I'm going to demonstrate something wonderful for you, something great, some, you, and listen, if the Lord wants to show you something, if the Lord wants to demonstrate something, I'm all, I'm all about it, I'm excited about it. And who is he going to show, who is it that he's going to show, he's going to show here his bondservants, I think this is totally politically correct bondservants, I like the term slave, because that's what it is, do loss, do loss is a slave, it's pertaining to a state of being, completely controlled by someone or something, subservient or controlled. ESV servant, ESV is just servant, okay, it's not bondservant, it's just servant. And a servant, I still, with that a servant, a servant is free to come and go, I guess a slave here, we're freely God's slave or not a slave, but it's one indentured to, like Paul says, you know, he's, Paul's not a bondservant, he won't agree with this, he would say I'm a slave to Christ, James is free to, a servant is free to go, he comes and he says, I'm going to clean up, I'll be on my way and go about my business, but when you have a slave mentality and you serve in all that you do, you recognize, let's go over, I'll tell you what, let's go over some points of being a slave here, I think I got him here, let's just bring it up, all right, from the current slide, all right, there we go, there we go, all right, first of all, point of darkness, a slave, okay, yeah, okay, the slave is property of another, a slave is a property of another, he's indentured to, okay, point number two for slave, a slave has no personal property or rights outside of that which is given by his master, every right, all your rights, all your, every, all your rights and all your privileges is given to you by the master, all that belongs to the slave is of the master including his life, what's interesting is the slave depends upon his master for logistical support, a master's business is the slave's business to accomplish, let's go back to three for a moment, all that belongs to the slave is of the master including his life, including his wife and is including his children, excess, 21, 4, if his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master and he shall go out alone, it's lean up to get his ear pierced on that, so even, even the wife and the children belong to the master, point four, the slave depends upon the master for his logistical support, for his food, for his life, for his life support, the master's business is the slave's business to accomplish, the sole purpose and the mentality of the slave is to do the master's business, what did Jesus say, there was several places in there that Jesus is the servant of the living God, of God in heaven, slave does business in his master's name by the authority of his master, the only ambition of the slave has to serve the master's will, is to serve the master's will, our mentality as one who has the slave mentality, the slave to the Lord is that I have no other purpose in this life but to serve God and to serve his purposes, if that's not my life, then my life has no reason of being, that's our mentality, we wake up in the morning with the understanding that I serve a living God, that's what I do, when we go to work, we serve, we might serve our company, we might have a boss, we might have a paycheck with his name on it, but our mentality is that we serve God, here is no greater position held in the world than the one who is God's own slave, so I take the bond servant off, a servant comes and goes as he wills, but a slave indentures himself to God for all that God, for all he is, belongs to God, it's not a part time servitude basis, nine, it is far better position to be a slave to the Lord Jesus Christ, than the richest or the most prominent person in all the world, even in all the ages, I would rather be, our mentality should be, I would rather be a slave to God, slave to the Lord Jesus Christ, than to be a king, even the most, I would say king of the world, but that's going to be the Antichrist, so there you go, would you rather be the Antichrist, or would you rather be a slave to God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, number ten, it is to his slaves that God reveals the most important details of his coming, and point of application. Being a slave to the sovereignty of the universe who loves us, and who we love in return leaves us with a personal sense of duty to serve the master with all our heart while living in the devil's world. You see nothing else matters, in comparison nothing else matters. But the world is burning down, it's still the fact that the question is when we are living in this world, regardless of what's on the news, regardless of what's going on. Our sole purpose is to come to the understanding that I am a slave to Christ in every condition, in every circumstance, and that I have a purpose in this life, and my purpose is to do God's will, and so to show his slaves, we, the master loves us with a love that has no depth. In response we love our master, and he says come, come on, he goes I got something to show you, I got something to show you, I've got something to encourage you. I've got something that's going to just, and all that he shows, he shows it to his God, the father shows his son, the son is going to pass it on to the angel, which is going to pass it on to John, and John is going to write these things in the book, and it's for our benefit because we are the slaves, his slaves. He loves us, and he's going to show us because it's going to give us encouragement. This is why we're going to see you later on, a blessed of those who read and to heed the things that are in this book, to take the heart to understand that God has a plan and you are the object of God's plan. We are privy because we are slaves to Jesus, we are privy to information that the kings of this world, they are not privileged to this information, but we are the lowest of the low. This information isn't given to religious leaders that are, and I say religious when I say they may be religious, but not ungodly, not to governmental. Remember that Jesus came, he didn't come to the Pharisees or the religious leaders then, that the Pharisees, the Sadducees, to the scribes, he came to the lowest of the low. You see, we are the last, last one types in this world. We are the lowest of the low. Jesus passed through the rank and file of all those prominent people in the world, and he came and he was born on the other side of the tracks. We are his people, we are his, the humble of the humblest, the humblest of the humblest. And he's saying, I've got something for you because remember, what the Lord said, the last will be first and the first will be last, and he says to us, he privileges us, his slaves to show us something that even the world, even the world, cannot even understand. That's a humongous, amen. Tell you what, in this we will close this out, we will pick this up, carry on with this next Sunday, as we will continue with this, and then we will, we're going to close this session out with a song and then we'll do a communion, and then we will dismiss for the day. How's that? Our second hymn this morning will be when the rollers call it up, yonder, and then we'll go right into the hymn, and right at this point, go ahead and throw it in to hymn, if you have anything on your desk, go ahead and clear it off for, to make it ready for the communion, and Grady, if you help me with the communion table, that'll be a good thing. All right, as we go on, all right. So let's stand, and let me see, do we have a paycheck for this one? 516? 516? Yes sir. All right. I don't have that on there. It says 516 on here, but it's, on here it's, he's everything to me. All right, well, it'll be up on the screen, how's that? Um, is that, that one, when I roll, we'll call it up, we'll be on it. When the trumpet of the Lord just hound and talk to me no more, And the morning breaks the turtle bright and bare, When the sage on the earth he got it on the shore, When the road is called up yonder, I'll be there. When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, When the road is called up yonder, I'll be there. On the bright, loudest morning, when the dead in Christ shall rise, And the glory of his resurrection share, When his chosen one shall gather to their home, we'll love the skies. And the road is called up yonder, I'll be there. When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, I'll be there. When the swam before the master from the doctor's setting sun, And the swam from all this wondrous love that came, Then when all of life is over and our work on earth is done, When the road is called up yonder, I'll be there. When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, I'll be there. When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, When the road is called up yonder, when the road is called up yonder, Enter into the most solemn phase of our worship service, Which is the Lord's Supper or Communion. It is Eucharist, it is the thanks and it is what the Lord says to do this and remember it's of him. There is no magic between the bread and there is no, the bread is the bread, and the cup is the cup. And the community service is a ritual. And a ritual is a physical manifestation of a spiritual reality. And the, as the world, as we've, we've just noticed it and noted, as we've noted from time to time, and we don't need to because we can really see how the world is going. There's many distractions for all of us as we go through life. We have our jobs, we have our marriages, we have our families, we have our hobbies, we have our we have things inside the church that we go through and so there are many things within our lives that become a, even when, even when there are good things, can become a distraction to our lives. You see, Communion, we do this once a month, we could do it once a week or we could do it every day. The Lord says, as often as you do this, we are a Bible church. And when we take Communion, it is about concentration. It's about coming to, it's about what you know about the Lord Jesus Christ. It's about what you know about His Word. It's a time of reflecting upon your life of where am I in my spiritual walk with the Lord. Am I walking worthy of the sacrifice that was made for me? So it is actually a test and I'm not going to do the grading but you grade upon yourself. It's your it's your report to yourself. Where am I? If you find yourself in your mind's wandering, well what time is it? You know, it's about time to get out of here and I hope you don't go along or if you have no mind at all, if your mind might be going to worries up the day, if it's about something else, you fail the test. And that's on you and that's you on between you and the Lord. Is this something that we just do? Because it's the second Sunday of the month. We didn't do it last Sunday but what will we do it monthly? Is it just something? Oh man, we're going to do this. Where's this something that means something to you? You see, as we grow and the way we grow is that we take in and our lives become more and more as a response to what Christ and everything that Christ means to us. Yes, when we were saved it was come as you are but don't remain as you are. And what we focus on is what we generally become more like. Well, we the identity too. Baptism, baptism is identity with to be immersed to become identified with something else. It's like the old pickle recipe that ain't your pickle recipe where you put the cucumber in and you take the identity and the flavor of the juice around you. When you're consumed with the Lord's juice Christ when you occupy with them and that doesn't come all at once so if you're a new believer or if you're a believer that really have got your spiritual footing yet you still got the grace and you're still growing but it's time to take on the your footing and that footing starts with understanding God's word. The disciples walked with Jesus. They communed with Jesus. They were with them every day. And it took them some time and really even after Jesus has called them when it wasn't until Jesus left this world actually until they saw and experienced over resurrected Christ until they received the Holy Spirit that they began to take on a new identity. If you look at the apostles for who they are and the disciples, same people prior to that they were different people. They took on the identity of Christ. Paul says be imitators of us who are imitators of Christ. And it all comes down to the point of remembering to go back to the basics. The very basic of our salvation is the resurrection. It is the bread. At Jesus Christ was humanity. He had a life and he lived that life and Hebrews chapter 10 tells us that he said that the blood, the bulls and goats you took no satisfaction. But you gave me a body to do your will. He was too humanity. He felt the cold. He felt the heat. He had his likes. He had his dislikes. Probably had certain tastes he favored over other things. He was every bit of humanity. As humanity can be. Except for one thing. He was minus a sin nature. His disciples loved him. He loved his disciples. I could imagine that there was times when he laughed. We certainly know there was time when he wept and he had these emotions. He was so human that I think even his mother forgot about the Christmas storkus that the coming in and his miraculous birth and all. Because he was so much like a human. And Isaiah 53 tells us that he that there was nothing that opens up that he did not have a parents that we all should all be gravitated to him. He was just your average human being. But it was a body that he was given again. He was he was born perfect. He was or he was born perfect as Adam was created. And it was humanity that had to he had to come as a humanity in its hyper-static union. Because it was a human representing humans. He was man representing man. And this will be the bread. And so as we passed the as we passed around the bread at this point we are going we will hold the bread until all have been served. Jesus said I am the bread of life. He is our sustenance. Our life takes no meaning and in his totally in vain without the Lord Jesus Christ. And it was the body that was broken. It was his body that was a true humanity that was placed upon the cross. While they were eating and when they were formed into the upper room and while they were eating Jesus took some bread and after blessing it he broke it and gave it to his disciples. And he said take and eat this is my body. In the garden. When God had established man, gave him the boundary. As I've said Adam was created or created perfect as Jesus is born perfect. Adam had no sin. We say that at the end of Genesis chapter 2 where Adam and his wife were naked and they needed no atonement. They need no covering. But the moment that they took from that tree they broke God's ordinance and they became guilty sinners. And where there's perfect justice there is a there has to be consequences for breaking God's law. When man sin sin came into the world and death passed on to all men because all men have sinned. We are all sinners. We're hopeless. We cannot save ourselves. What man had broke man cannot fix. And that was a relationship with God. The death passed on age after age it was the same old story that where there was a death there was mourning. There was weeping. There was sadness. It's a universal language. Regardless of where you are in the world and you have a loved one who dies. The heart breaks. And there's a sense of hopelessness there. When Jesus stood outside of the tomb and he wept as we know and as we would talk. He didn't weep for Lazarus but he went for the broken fates of all the people and through that broken faith that brought us the problem to begin with. There was certainly a problem and he would deal with it upon the cross. Upon the cross he gave his God sent him to the cross. And while we were yet sinners Christ died as a substitute for us. See we couldn't die for ourselves. We couldn't give ourselves in the Old Testament the blood of the animal was sacrificed to demonstrate something that had to take place. Jesus told Adam that in the day that you eat thereof you will surely die. And he did die. He died spiritually separated from God subject to eternal death. But he gave it now and was the innocent blood of not the animal but of Jesus. That he died in our place. That we might become a righteousness in him. He became sin for us. And the blood he did not bleed to death. The blood is a picture when it speaks of blood it speaks figuratively of his life because life was in there. The blood the wine that we take here the juice is a picture of that sacrifice. And as we take the bread and as we take the cup these things should be these are reminders. He said when you do this Jesus said when you do this remember me. And this is the reason for communion. It's to bring us back. It's to bring our thinking back. It's to sit aside all the other sacrifices. And I neglected to do it for the bread but we'll do it for the drink and the cup here as the Lord has blessed us. So let us pray. Father in heaven as we have come to the bread and now when we're coming to the cup. We ask Heavenly Father we thank you first of all. That while we were at the centers and more and more we recognize as we grow close to the our God who is light. How we look back on our lives and how we were not worded. We may have thought then that we were worthy that we were right. But we really see now and then seeing your righteousness we look back and we know how much of a scoundrel we were in the past. And that how unworthy we were. But yet by grace you saved us. The greatest gift is your son. And as your son who provided us with salvation he is our ark. He is our savior. We thank you Heavenly Father that as we in this Eucharist which is thanksgiving for our so great salvation neither earned or deserved. But certainly we recognize the love of the that brought us this salvation. We pray these things in Christ name. Amen. All right now as we as the cup is being distributed we will hold on to the cup until all have been served. [Music] [Music] When you're taking the cup and giving thanks He gave it to them saying drink of it all of you for this is the blood of my covenant that has been poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Where's Peter? 118. Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver and gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers. But with the precious blood as of a lamb unblemished and spotless the blood of Christ for he was foreknown before the foundations of the world but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory so that your faith and hope are in God. It is the communion service which we offer up thanksgiving for our future and should give us a future sense of destiny regardless of what goes on in the world. We are looking for because of this for a new heavens a new earth or righteousness dwells he has given us a new identity in him and we will be either taken home or either by death or by translation we'll be taken home to be within and that which we can be assured of let us pray. Thank you Father for this time together this morning I pray Heavenly Father that with what we've studied and will continue to study about your your coming I pray Heavenly Father that and with the communion service morning that our lives will be lived in such a way that is worthy of our calling we pray these things in Christ name Amen. On this we have our closing will be when I survey the wondrous cross get out of there and this is this we will open up our hymnals for this when I survey the wondrous cross was it 188 185 close after all these years I want to know right so so when I survey the wondrous cross on which the prince of glory died my richest king I count the applause and more content on oh my man oh Lord in law that I should vote in same in the ten love fries by god all the maintenance that you're in the above I sakrofars them to his blood see from his head his hands his feet sorrow and flow flow down his eyes love and soul. Whose revelation is it and who does it belong to
