No. If you're a first-time listener we cover horror movies one movie at a time good bad Well, man. Yeah, man. What the fuck how does get made kind of thing? Spectacular. Yeah, even the spectacular ones like I want to say the one we're covering today is pretty spectacular but to start off I'm your host Richard and This is my beautiful co-host Hi killers. Yes, and then our special she usually runs the review corner But she's gonna sit in on this one the whole time Vienna, how are you doing? All right. Yeah, that's how you doing So yeah, I'm pretty excited this episode we are covering the ring 2002 How do you guys feel about that? I think it's a pretty good movie pretty good Solid pick a solid pick you're welcome. You're welcome. Did you pick this one? I did yes, and I picked Batman. What's up? Back to back Richard. What happened to that? Oh, we had to adjust we had to pivot I'm I'm glad we pivoted cuz this has been the best two weeks. I've had in a while with these movies But no, yeah, we're covering the ring. I'm jumping ahead a little bit. How has everybody's week? It's a Friday night How how was our week this week? We had some pretty big stuff Yeah, we went to iron made in I Was pretty stoked Angelus you're not too familiar with the band. How'd you like it? It was an experience magical experience, Richard. It was magical. What was your favorite part? Eddie? Okay, when he came out in battle everyone. Yeah, it was pretty samurai Eddie was pretty cool Richard hated it. Yeah Like I wanted to see their their legacy songs man old-school songs I wasn't trying to listen to their new album. I hate when bands do that I'm paying good money to see you perform your hits dude When you're iron maiden like I'm not paying to see your new album. That's all I'm saying. Oh Whoa, that's a bull statement Richard. It's coming in hot. You are coming in hot. Yes iron maiden. Oh My lord, I just come on dude. Come on Halloween town. You should be playing a number of the beast. Come on, dude But anyways, I digress. Are you gonna focus a little bit? On what? I'm a conversation. I'm just listening to you rant about iron maiden. Oh, you're not happy about it Mm-hmm. I thought I'm just saying for the amount of money we put into it. I didn't get it back We found a record store with typo negative that was worth worth the trip So high voltage records if you're ever in Tacoma visit that shop and we got pretty cool stuff We got typo negative. We finally found the album. What was the album? We got we have we got dead again But they also had slow deep in horror. Oh fuck that would have been good to get Maybe when we're back there we'll get that and then what else did we get for the family room? Oh a motley crew posters super awesome Yeah, a bunch of shirtless butt rockers Yeah, love it the band that took women's rights and sent it back 50 years Molly crew one of them Yeah But all right, let's get back to the to the movie the ring now You've guys seen this movie once before right? I've seen it multiple several times several times so by This time around like okay. What was your initial thoughts on this movie the first time I watched it or if you can remember And then yeah, you can compare it to now too like it's if it's changed I think I was I mean the whole premise of watching a movie and Killing you was pretty scary. So even watching the movie was like oh shit. Is it gonna come for you? Yeah, it was a movie, but it was like at the same time like oh my god So when you were initially watched this, that's what you're feeling like oh my fucking god you it was scary Yeah, I was like oh crap like there's a lot of tension and well think about it You could stumble upon a VHS back in the day You didn't know cuz people recorded over VHS tapes. There's blank tapes I know my grandparents used to record HBO on blank tapes. We'd have all these movies But you could stumble upon some movies. You didn't even know you're watching like oh shit So like the amount of fear like in that like not knowing what the blank tape had on it Could be pretty intense. I've never had that experience except with scary movies It was always a treat to like go their house cuz they wouldn't label any of the movies You just have to pop it in and see which I kind of like the element of surprise because then that's where coincidentally You know, I showed you my love for pumpkin head That's where that came from. I randomly stumbled upon it when I was like seven and I was like this movie fucking My grandparents They did not put that in the family rotation That would have been hilarious, but no there was no porn Oh really? No, let's hear it. Let's hear the story. Are you grandparents? No, not my grandparents all named family But they had a sack of VHS tapes on just chilling on top of the VHS player some of them were labeled but not all of them. So I was like yeah, that was a thing not to label I've watched this one. I don't know what this one is. Maybe it's a new movie that I haven't watched Burning you you're burning through the rotation And I popped it in and I was like boobs, but no, this is not a movie Turned it off and I was like, oh, I feel so wrong. I can't this is not movies. I'm gonna get in trouble Remember the title of the movie. No, I just like it was like they whoever was watching this They didn't even it was like right in the middle of the movie to it wasn't like a beginning or an end It was like right in the middle. Well, yeah, you fast forward to the part you like and then all of a sudden you Do the business and then you turn it off. It popped it in and it was like full-on and boob action everything. I was like, oh My god, that's hilarious. It was in the I was I don't know why I was like embarrassed I was like they're gonna know that I watched their movie Cool uncle or what? Or older cousin who had it no just give me a guess. Oh my god. I don't care That doesn't narrow down like that's good. You can keep it that That's funny, dude. Everybody's had that though. I've I've stumbled upon that stuff before it is shocking and jarring You know when you do there was a man to me really, but that's happening your mom That's happened to you too many times, but where you stumble across stuff. You don't want to see people's phones or whatever. Oh Yeah Oh phones are a big one, dude older generation. They don't like they understand acquainted with technology They're like, can you fix this for me? And I'm flipping through their tops. I'm like, ah Yeah, close the incognito tab. Come on, man another family member older family member Again learning technology. Oh, yeah, they were at someone else's house and other family members and you know frickin cable was new and then you have those big fancy remotes with the So back button the guide button the info and yeah too many buttons Okay for them to watch important to know and they were home alone and they were watching porn and the Owners of the house got home and caught him red-handed and he just read and couldn't figure out how to go back to the normal channels And you know how it's just in the background Ah And you know how would go into the history you pushed the back button you go back to the last So he had navigated too many of those channels. That's too good Go back to the normal to Cable and he like y'all don't write it. I was like, I don't know Happy I mentioned someone He's daughter-in-law had to go That's fucking funny. I got it. Okay off air. I need to know the names. I gotta know the story He Is this someone I've met he was really he was really embarrassed Everybody thinks you know everybody knows urges and everybody knows the story though So that's a funny part is deep down We know who it was and no one happened the legend of this person. Do I know this person? You've met this person. Hey, I love it Uh Okay, so we'll close that tab on porn and finding people's porn stashes Label your vhs isn't your movie. Oh, well, if you have vhs's and you're watching porn off vhs I have a story to tell you later Perfect But also this begs is a question too this begs the question not vhs anymore But using cognito mode, you know put the vpn on you can block that ship What's that Richard? How do you know huh, huh? I'm just I'm not an idiot. Come on As an avid user A pro I'll teach you how to use hey, I came in in the era where we transitioned from tapes to the internet And it was like boom technology exploded right there. I did verbally and physically I tease I tease anyways closing that tab Jesus Jesus baby hazels Vienna initially the what were your thoughts on this movie Was it freaky like do you remember when you first watched it? How old were you probably like what 10? Damn. Yeah, somewhere around there. So pretty early on. Yeah, it was It wasn't super scary. It was a little eerie to like the thought of it But I don't know like did the girl freaky out samara? No, she looks like me I see that in the mirror every day So that movie it didn't creep you out at 10 at all. You didn't have nightmares. You weren't scared. No Okay, I'm like some other was just baba duke. Yeah, did you get creeped out? So around 2002 I was like 13 It was creepy, but it wasn't like I wasn't creeped out. I didn't like some of the scenes like the nail scene It's very brief. I don't like nails like if nails are breaking. I don't like that I don't like seeing teeth getting smashed in or out like like if they're doing something like with eyelids or anything like that I don't like that. You don't like bunny whore A lot of it. I don't I can handle some but like I can't like nipple twisting. I can handle That's a different kind of But it's okay so Vienna but You like this movie. Yeah, it's pretty good. Like I feel like if you like I don't know just I feel like you can kind of watch this in whatever mood. I don't know something in the background It's like you don't know what to pick. So I forgot like I haven't seen this movie in fuck 20 years. I think I watched 22 years. I watched it when it first came out 2002 and I watched it a bunch of times Yeah, I watched a bunch of times in 2002, but I haven't seen it Sense I don't think and I just remember it all came back to me. I'm like fuck this movie rocks So I like it it brought everything back. It was entertaining slow burn You can tell Mike Flanagan gets a lot of inspiration from this Other people you can tell these slow burn guys They got a lot of the a lot of this a lot of influence from the ring, right? Yeah So yeah, how and you like this right angels? I did I do I did what did you like about it? I like the ear. I like that. Well, it's not as scary anymore, but The story I like that there's a mystery you kind of following through trying to figure out more about this demon girl Yeah, I like yeah, I like the mystery trying to solve it Seeing if you can actually stop it. Yeah, hey and Coincidentally, this is our second straight movie in our backyard Seattle or Pacific Northwest in Washington Blood moon bad moon they pretended to film it in the Pacific Northwest, but yeah, I mean so Yes, but it was both taking place in the Pacific Northwest this one was in Seattle Several exterior shots and establishing scenes were filmed in and around Seattle to capture the city's moody atmosphere And then another place was dungeness landing Washington. That's where the lighthouse scene was And also Whitby island or would be island, which have you ever been? I've been once No, dude. We might have to make that trip out. It's kind of a cool little town Cool island. I mean then a lot of uh, the interior scenes were shot in Los angeles, California Now have you seen the original ring? I started watching this. How do you pronounce it ring? I don't know Yeah, there's a you at the end. Yeah, something like that. I have seen bits and pieces of it. I've never seen the full movie Nobody want to I want to do I heard it's a little more campier, but I heard it's better. Yeah. Well, I mean people say people novice original I don't know if it'll be necessarily better because this one for me is pretty good And I have a bias since yeah I wonder if they like if they were homeless. They were like get all those shot Oh my god, maybe I saw homeless people smoking meth under the bridge today Nice Fun times. I know you need a what was it dare t-shirt? I know. No, I need a pipe to join. No, you didn't do not Okay, yeah, don't do drugs. No, let's get back to the movie So this movie's kind of interesting and how it was shot You know they used a green tint to make it a little more moodier to capture that like That generic what people think of Seattle all the time like it's always raining Which is not the case people is very like green or blue Well, it was on it was on purpose to have that that tone Yeah, like I think I have in the notes But it yeah, it was a gloomy rainy atmosphere. They did it on purpose So a lot of the sets too. They just flooded in water to make it Make it look like it was just a downpour all the time Which is pretty cool. I put two rings a lot, but not that much at least at times we've been there Yeah, I mean the winter time. I guess it rains a little bit more But even then it's still not as bad as they're making it look like it's flooding So this movie had a pretty uh good budget For 2002 the production budget was approximately 48 million dollars And it was a commercial success it grossed over 249 million worldwide Which is one of the highest grossing horror remakes of all times as of 2020 2002, right? The other cool thing about it is so more than two million DVD copies in us within the first 24 hours of release Dude, so and this is a quick turnaround for a remake And I don't know if it was a remake as it was an introduction to the states Because the Japanese movie the Japanese version the original was 1998 This one came out in 2002 Which was pretty quick usually for the movies we've covered with our remakes There's a huge gap in between so they're trying to introduce a whole new era of kids Yeah, decade of kids, but this one it's just quick. They're trying to get it over to the states because it was a really good story I lost my train of thought what I was gonna say I'll try to remember it go ahead No, so some notes that I have here regarding the movie It did go into production with that a final script which is fucking crazy to think about yeah, I read that too Aaron Kruger wrote three drafts of the screenplay and it's got frank was to come on and do Final rewrite But they were just like you said it was a quick turnaround. They were just trying to go go go So they started it while the final drop was stealing and work I do have so the director will touch a little bit more about it here in a little bit, but it was Gore verbinsky. That's it. That's how you pronounce name right? Yeah again. He was Go go ahead He was inspired to do the remake after Someone sent it my VHS copy of the original yeah, the Japanese version film And to him he found a really interesting Pulp avant garde was used to describe it The movie that he was provided if he described it as have been a poor quality VHS tape which to him made it more Creepy grittier. Yeah What she tried to do in the tape itself like in this movie Yes, what she did a pretty good job at Yeah, and then the company that produced this I'd had no I didn't even know this Dream dream work. Yeah dream works the Steven Spielberg company I didn't realize that and I never put it together but because they're not really known for horror When I think of dream works, I think sure Well, yeah, I think of small soldiers. I just think of the Steven Spielberg, you know family shit Yeah, I don't think this no that was cool. Yeah advertisement I wish I would have been like in one of the school places when advertisement was taking place They did promotional websites with characters and places in the film to advertise it and then they also had They had physical VHS copies of the movie that they were randomly like putting on people's cars Just adding public places. Oh like the actual ring like the scary The movie the actual movie or the no the actual movie the VHS copy just VHS copies of the movie the ring to those in two Wow, but they were put in them on people's cars other public places Outside of movie theaters for to get people to like okay Are you gonna be bait take it home and watch it before he released on movie theaters? So Pretty cool to get one of those copies. Oh, I would have been stoked. We should look for one to buy Yeah, we should look but how will you know if it's a real they bet I bet they have it marked like it's it doesn't It's probably a hundred to the a lot of money. Yeah, I'd be cool to have though I'd be cool to have we should just buy in general a ring VHS Tape where are we gonna find a VHS to play? We don't need to play it, but I want to watch it on a video just kidding for our collection We're just like no But yeah, that's cool. What else do you have? Let's see. So the title the ring It can be interpreted of many different ways. Some people were Describing it as being a telephone call which warns others about the tape. So like the telephone game where it goes around transferring In the Japanese version of the film the the title was supposed to be a reference to the cyclical nature nature of the curse Again, just kind of traveling going around Okay Let's see what else do I have here my notes the makeup for Samara the the little girl that we will cover later on It doesn't look like it's a lot right from those few shots. There was a couple scenes They caked a lot of makeup on there was a few scenes where she did look creepy But there's a few where she just looks very pale I think that's an all like that's the Japanese style of like ghosts Like because we've watched a couple at least not like shutter and other places Or it wasn't the ring, but it was a similar kind of thing even the grudge has it. It's a pale Pretty much face. They kind of use that well took over six and a half hours to complete Also for some of the scenes She wore a water wig under her dress to make it look like she was always dripping Yeah Well, so the main use of this it's really cool this movie although a lot of tech Was happening it was practical effects majority of this was and it was just skilled filmmaking And videography like how they were doing the angles what they were shooting They were just using practical stuff and they only used it very subtly like the Not CGI per se like a little bit of CGI when she's coming out of the tv But very little of it was used So I did find dreamworks bought the rights to wringo for one million dollars Jesus and then I made 29 at the time Wow, I do have there are some comparisons between the ring and wringo. So they're 50 different. They're not the exact same movie They do have the same basic premise of samara and the kids being the same But the there were there was a storyline involving characters having esp There was a volcano some dream logic And there was references to goblins in the original movie that were taken out of the remake See all that stuff's cool, but I like I like what they did striping it down to this story of this I do have that Coincidentally, although we said it doesn't run in Seattle all the time when they were filming it did rain almost every day Not to that extent. I don't think though, but it did. Yeah, a little bit And then at one point Chris Cooper wasn't the movie Right on me that is Apparently some very well known actor because he played a child murderer And he was in two scenes that were supposed to be at the start of the movie and the end of the movie And they did a test screening and audiences were distracted because they saw him at the beginning and the end of the movie But were distracted about what happened to him in the middle of the movie So they decided to cut those two scenes out just completely and get rid of Chris Cooper from this movie Chris Cooper are you looking at mom? Oh, yeah. Yeah, okay. He was in this. Yeah beginning and ending they got rid of him. He was too recognizable Oh shit. So that was a thing with a director. That was kind of cool. He was trying to find actors that weren't super well known to Feed him more into the what brine Cox is fucking well known now Dude, he was then he he's coming off super troopers He was in the original like Hannibal. He was the original Hannibal Lecter as man hunter in that movie He was Hannibal Lecter like the guy brine Cox is pretty popular Yeah Yeah, so supporting characters. Yeah, he wanted no thing. He wanted the film to be discovered by audiences. Yeah There was at one point for marketing as well a commercial About the movie, but it didn't say that it was it came out a couple months before the movie actually released It on ominous and just like oh, what the fuck is that? Yeah, it was just a killer video that was released as a commercial, but they didn't say oh i'm coming movie They just left it there. Yeah, I love it. What did it find? Yeah, that's pretty cool so I gotta say in this this movie the ring I have I broke it kind of down what it does really well So like the movies you like the slow burn suspense the pacing of this is deliberate It is creating a mounting sense of tension and anticipation I like how it blurs reality and supernatural the film effectively mixes the real world with supernatural element making the curse feel inescapable and Omni-present is the term I was seeing used And then obviously you have your unforgettable imagery because that's kind of burning my head You think of that. Well, you see the girl you see Vienna's bangs down if you guys know Vienna she has the samara bangs And then yeah, and then the performances were great from brat brine cox and amo wats They all did pretty good job snap club snap club Yeah And then the impact on the genre helped popularize the trend of remaking asian horror films from western audiences in the early 2000s Success paved the way for other remakes like the grudge and dark water Have you ever seen dark water? I don't think so. It sounds familiar. I'd have to watch the trailer I think i've seen it It showed that horror could be effective without relying on excessive gore violence, which at the time was kind of Settling down because of 9/11 but also people were clamoring for it It used it used more atmosphere and psychological tension to terrify the audience And the film success marked a shift towards more polished high production value horror films in hollywood Which is good or bad take it or leave it some pull it off like I feel like the polish on this was really good But the director is really good. Yeah, where some like I can see the complaint for texas chance on ask your 2003 although one of my favorite movies It is a little too polished. Does that make sense when that's supposed to be a little more grittier? Yeah But overall the ring stands out because of its atmosphere innovated story and ability to deeply Unsettle viewers without relying on cheap thrills. It's a film that lingers with its audience long after the credits rule And then I do have I wanted to cover we kind of shied away from it some movies that came out in 2002 The pretty familiar ones like 28 days later was a big one that came out that year Resident evil you guys seen that one. I mean, I think so. Yeah, queen of the damned I think viana watched it. You weren't too impressed with it had a leon. I watched a little bit it was And moffman prophecies wasn't very good go ship Do you guys we have to cover that we have to oh, it's good at least the intros good Okay, and then you have halloween resurrection Science came out in two and signs. Yeah with our boy. M night shamalama ding-dong People were freaking me. I remember that made the news not the movie, but like actual like people fighting The circles. So I think that was all publicity. I was reading some about that and they were doing that to Make publicity for the movie Yeah, it was like all over the news people were blowing it up and they were like oh my god Crop circles with weird patterns just appearing everywhere overnight How how do you guys feel about that movie science? Do you like it? I think it was interest. I I watched it when it came out Yeah, or a couple years after and I haven't gone back to us and I yeah, I watched her when it did come out I remember my mom took me in the movie three years watching she wanted to see it and I was like It's M night shamalama, but okay mom. You were already like I was already on the hate train I was already on the hate train. I liked the six cents, but after that I was like no But this one I'm kind of in the middle. It's lukewarm for me Oh, let me see your toe. It is lukewarm You dip the toe But yeah, so do we want to go into transition into the cast go to the car How do you guys feel about the cast in this was it casted well? The little boy was creepy a little bit. Oh, what's his name? Arden Aiden. Yeah He was very creepy. He did a really good job. Yeah, he played it pretty good. He played it pretty good I can't tell if he was more creepy at times or some more No Was he was he supposed to be autistic before autistic autism was a thing Was he this is an honest question I have no idea. I feel like he was you're gonna have to reach out to verb verbinski ask him I feel like he was but in a good way. I think he was uh, he was gifted I think he was clairvoyant and that's why he was so odd at times Yeah, because he could see shit and though the key could talk to the the ghost talk to him Well, they talked to him. I don't know if he talked back, but he was experiencing. Yeah, and he could see like Images of like when his cousin like those last moments, which we'll get into But I think he was just too mature for his age and he he had abilities. He had gifts He seemed older than he was. Yeah, yeah, and the actor we're talking about is david dorfmann He plays jetta dia in texas chance. I'm asking her 2003. Those Torah terrible teeth He's also he starts in drobitt taylor and it looks like he reprises role in 2005 the ring two, but I would have to rewatch the ring two. I don't know if I remember that one as well He was also in zombie roadkill, which I've never seen And then in panic back in 2000 and in family law for two years. Okay Have anything else on him? No, yeah, I it looks like he stopped acting Yeah After when he got into his teens, right? And then we have no Naomi Watts She's a england actress Let's see what we did her notable filmography. What do we got? We got mohalan drive 2001 That's a david lynch movie. I don't think i've ever seen it 21 grams She was in king kong the bad king kong the impossible And bird man. Have you seen any of those? No, but I have seen you seen king kong haven't you? Maybe I've seen sleep walkers. She was in there. She was also an i-har huckabees And then she was on the I remember her on the divergent elijian movies And then more recently she was in the watcher and tv show And then m&well m&well. Yeah, that's the most recent thing in 2024. Okay. What about you vianum? No, I don't know I feel like i've seen her and stuff But I can't recall And then we have martin henderson who plays no a clay is that aid and dad? He has a familiar face and I do remember him in this torque. Have you ever seen torque? I think ice cubes in it It's a biker gang I thought ice cube was in it. Maybe i'm thinking of biker boys with a z But anyways, it came around the same time, but I remember him in torque He was in bride and prejudice Grey's anatomy. I don't I've never seen it. I have any there and virgin river where he's I guess still currently in it It's a tv series. Oh shnames. He was also with mr. And missus myth Well, see that's the Brad Pitt and angelina. Yeah, and then the movie x in 2022. I do remember that Yeah, he plays the director How is that him? Yeah, okay Yeah, and then we have brian cox we talked about him a little bit earlier or I did again This guy's a legend man hunter in 1986 he was in brave heart 1995 x2 x-man in 2003 he was William striker And then he was in troy 2004 and he's currently in succession 2018 to present Which i've never seen succession. I don't think so either. He was also in trick or treat He was and the movie her pixels. I remember him there and the autopsy of jane doe Autopsy of jane doe was good because he was with what's his name? I can't remember his name. Uh that was a good one that freaked us both out. He played the doctor Well, he played the mortician and then the dad That movie was freaky because I remember freaked both of us out. Yeah, and I was like you guys are scared Yeah We were hype. I was like shipping movie. Yeah, I was like For her just having lived in the shit dog. You don't know And we have jane Alexander doctor grasnik. She is the psychiatrist in the movie And she she has some roles. She was in testament creamer versus creamer The great white hope Which I don't know if i've seen i've seen creamer versus creamer, but I don't think i've seen anything else No, I don't think i've seen her many things We also have davie chase who plays samara I've seen her in one other things so she also played she was in dani darko And some manta darko she plays dani darko's little sister Oh She voiced lilo instead. She did the voice for lilo And then big love jack goes home and more recently i'm 2016 american bromance. She wasn't half much after that Weird yeah, they're just like done. Yeah done with the actor her and what was his name? david dorman Okay Who else do we have we have amber tamblin who plays katie who's the cousin? Okay, i've seen her in a lot of things growling movies apparently she was also in general hospital The grudge too. She plays obry. She was in the sisterhood of traveling pants 172 hours she was in house Two and a half men and more recently in a movie called you hurt my feelings. Okay, they came out in 2023 Cool. And the last one that I have is rich old bella who plays Becca the friend She didn't have a ton of stuff. She was in something called when pigs fly american gun and more recently drive through which was back into the Southern so I remember her in the crucible and I remember in Buffy the vampire Slayer. Okay Let's see Yeah Right here. So yeah, the only established people Naomi wats and brine cocks were already established actors with prestigious filmographies She and then samara in this movie played by how do you say her name davia? You think it's davy? davy chase She instantly made that and I you would consider samara an iconic horror character. Oh, yeah Yes, she's up there with the freddies the Jason Right. I like to think so too. She is scarier I think because she's like they're relentless, right? But she's like quiet relentless like when aden's like she never sleeps She's always coming. Yeah, I'm like, oh, fuck man. It's like And I get silent angry it taps into my hobby, bro I watch movies all the time like I would be like I pop in in the tape and samara be coming at me Yeah, I'm like that bullshit seven days. Fuck you smacker. Yeah, and then I'd be the guy sitting in the chair The frozen death We need a picture um But yeah, uh, so and we touched it a little bit gore verbinsky He's the director of this this guy is a certified badass He is I didn't realize I liked a lot of his work and this guy's pretty talented You want to go into a little bit? I know and you're doing research like what the fuck? He did this. He does this alone You remind was blown because we were watching something else on tv and you're like shut the front door We got a process for saying I was like what happened? Yeah, exactly He's one of american cinemas most inventive directors at one point in his life He was a punk rock guitarist as a teenager. He sold his guitar to buy his first camera And he went on to direct pirates of the Caribbean dead man's chest Which made a record of being the highest opening weekend of all time at the time with 135 point six million dollars And grossed over a billion dollars worldwide And he pretty much got a contract out of that with disney. Yeah, so he was born in tennessee He's dad. Actually, it was pretty fucking clever. He was a nuclear physicist Who worked at the oak rich lab his family moved to california I have as a kid some of his biggest influences were france kafkas kafkas Metamorphosis and black Sabbath as far as music is concerned He also made his first film together with Oh my goodness. Where did it go? with friends And then after he developed a passion for filmmaking he like I mentioned he bought his first camera was a super eight millimeter camera Then he ended up attending UCLA film school And then he graduated from there he's first so Sorry kaf What? I like about this guy is how versatile he is. So he's done comedy He's done like comedy drama or action comedy. He's done animation in rengo and Just all these yeah action movies. He's done a lot. He's done horror This guy is Awesome and all within a pretty I mean he's still is he still doing it Because he's still got like in that span from 97 To about 2016 he was pretty active just pumping out stuff good stuff too I like I wouldn't say all the pirates of the carrier beans were good, but couple of them are good I don't know if you've ever seen the romantic comedy the Mexican have ever seen that with Brad Pitt It's okay. It has pretty it's not like a favorite of mine, but it's got a couple of good parts in it My songs. I might have Julia Roberts. I might have one secret a while ago Yeah, and like mouse hunt is another good one. I growing up. I used to love that movie And so this one sounds familiar. It's a psychological horror a cure for wellness You ever seen that? No, I think I've heard of that. I have too. I maybe I have seen it. I don't know Anyways continue. What do you got first professional directing jobs were with music videos for alternative bands Like l7 bad religion and master magnet. That's sick He went on to work with nike cannon skittles united airlines and coca cola And he was the man behind the Budweiser frogs. Whatever that is. Yeah, bud. Why sir? It was before your time. He weren't in the state yet And then he had his featured direct directorial debut with the movie mouse hunt in 1997 cartoonish family comedy And then he went on to make like you mentioned the mexican But some of his biggest debuts ended up being disney related movies so pirate to the caribbean curse of the black pearl the ring And then our whirls and we're two of the biggest ones grossing like 650 million dollars and five Oscar nominations. He did have a he did have a shitty one though What's the loan ranger? although dude Like yes, you cast Johnny Depp as tonto, but you know what army hammer didn't do it any help either But that movie actually wasn't bad. It was pretty entertaining. I find it entertaining They did a pretty good job for updating the loan ranger. I enjoyed it. I thought Johnny Depp was pretty good I think we didn't have Vienna watch it. Yeah, you might like it. It's an about It's a comedy Indians and cowboys essentially wasn't it? Yeah Yeah, I have to give it a try Now who we have a couple writers on this right or just one a couple of them What do we got? So for the writers we have Aaron Krueger He was born in 1972 american film producer and screenwriter known for writing the ring He also wrote five of the transformers movies. Yeah screams three and four Blood and chocolate the ring to skeleton key Dumbo the brother's gram which I really like ghost in a shell and he often is known for collaborating with michael bae Which makes sense transformers So I have for a strength as a writer suspense and atmosphere Twist and complex narratives and big budget blog posters which makes sense with michael bae. Yeah, that's pretty cool Oh, I do have challenges and criticisms So convoluted plots Krueger's work particularly on the transformer series has been criticized for being overly complex or difficult to follow with too many characters and subplots that detract from the central narrative which that's not all his fault those movies have a lot of lore like Leading up to it like there's a lot of story that goes in so I I don't Give that but one it does fall on him his character depth His action heavy blogbusters often prioritize spectacle over character of development which has led to critiques about the lack of emotional resonance and some of his Scripts so but that goes hand in hand with michael bae. I mean you're not going to get really emotionally driven Filmography out of it. You're going to get a lot of explosions Think of little Smith and Martin Lawrence bad boys like you're going to get that kind of action. Yeah What else we got other writers Koji Suzuki we was a Japanese writer Lives in Tokyo. He was the author of the ring novels which have been adopted into other formats That's cool. And then we have Hiroshi Takahashi. I believe it was how you pronounce his name and he was the original writer He's known he has some other films called so dumbo no icky ichie and then Ringo and an occult Bullshit visam. I'm so sorry. I probably buttered all of us. That's okay. That's cool Do you have anything else? All right, should we take a break Let's talk a break. All right. Don't worry What man I see maybe innocent material made a video because that ends up in the rental cabin where a group of teenagers In a moment of boredom. Give it a chance A video followed by the weirdest phone call that leads people into an inevitable date Anevitable date with death. A reporter is tasked with finding out how a family member mysteriously died And takes up more dark family dirty laundry than a laundromat in downtown spookin Obsessed with fighting now how to stop the curse ritual totally neglects her child who clearly likes sleep And adult supervision as he himself ends up watching this freaking cursed film in a moment of boredom Ritual literally travels through land and sea to try to stop to her date with samara And give her some rest once and for all But will ritual's dedication and attention for this demon with teenage rage be enough to finally stop torturing people But will she just add She will just add to the list of reasons to be added to samara's little black list The end Okay. How do you say the word inevitable inevitable? All right, here's my mind's not as long or wordy and no less sound sound effects on a monopia All right, the ring 2002 when investigative journalist rachel keller Here's about a cursed videotape that so supposedly kills you seven days after watching it She's intrigued after all who even uses VHS anymore. Yes, even 2002 No wonder blockbuster was on its way out But when things start to eerie she realizes this might be more than just an urban legend With only a week to figure out the mystery rachel dives headfirst into terrifying investigation juggling creepy phone calls Strange visions and her son aden who suddenly acting like he's been a binge watching horror classics instead of cartoons Times running out and rachel needs to unravel the truth behind the tape before presses eject button on her life For good. Oh my gosh. Just don't forget be kind. Please or want peace out Richard very creative drop Not my best work, but I will take it on this one. I think i'm better but Well And i'm gonna add in like a tape ejecting You're supposed to do it by yourself with your mouth man I'm not a Wait, let's hear yours, Richard What I can't it's like They don't echo I have great acoustics in my house so I can help it Anyways, that was the quad Vienna, which one was better? Good job, Richard. You'll get better at it. Let's fuck you in You'll be a little warped or bad Ever I can't read a plot until I watch the movie. I can't utilize it. I wrote mine today I wrote mine today thumbian Cool cool beans cool cool beans beans beans. Well, here's the exciting part and this is where Which one of you has 80 D's Okay, I'm sorry guys. We're off the rails today I'm trying to get us together here. I'm trying to read the shit, but this is not Scene by scene. Yeah, let's go to scene for scene. This is why Vienna's here. This is the exciting part for her What do I do? And you've seen you watched the entire movie with those I've watched it before but you watched the entire movie recently with those, which is nice. Not with you What yesterday? No, I went to a shower briefly Difficult now. She's like always she's got that teenage angst She said I said good day The last word it looking so uh Let's get the scene going who wants to start it Richard I always do Yeah, no You don't remember how it starts, but I don't have notes We go to kati's house Katie's house No, yes, say what's happening They're watching fuckin jesus. They're watching the television Okay, they're sitting in she they're in a room, right? Katie's room Katie Becca's like that's not her house. She's the friend They're watching a movie They're watching tb and then kati's like oh my Breaking gosh. I hate television There's radio waves and they're killing our brain cells and tb's like Terrible for you and just on and on and on and on and on Okay, she's droning on and then they start talking about What they did over the weekend, right? Like it slips that Becca Was hanging out with her boyfriend Without her parents knowing well Becca asked she's like Because they're she's going on about the movies and asked if she has heard about a tape That's right that you watch and after seven days. It was a nervous something happens And kati gets serious for a second. She's like oh my god How did you know about the movie? And she's like wait like starts catching on the maybe did she see it And kati continues on with a straight face and her and Josh saw it a week ago And this is yeah when she slips and she was hanging out with the boyfriend And they're like oh my god. Did you guys do anything? She's like maybe Which is weird But it happens, but anyways, they do watch a movie But you don't know if they are because she starts acting like oh my god It's the seventh day which in reality it is And she acts like she's had like convulsing or whatever in Becca's arms And then all the sudden she like oh, you know, she does the trope where she was just playing she's happy she's like Just joking And she was like oh my god and then but when that happens the phone starts ringing And then that's when she kind of sobers up again where she's like oh my god Like the phone's going off like she's freaked out And her friends like wait Is there a really a tape because she looks scared and there is and she did watch a tape But we don't know that yet. We don't know the lore of it So we're like what the fuck's going on here because it doesn't explain the phone calls, right? No, not this time. We piece this together later But So they go downstairs the phone's ringing Becca answers And then she acts like it's nobody like that anybody knows, right? Yeah, but then it turns out she gives the phone to katie and it is her mom Yeah, and her mom They're kind of just checking in so it looks like the parents are not home. Right. It's just the two girls checking in And They say their goodbyes. She hangs up the phone And then Becca goes off. Yeah and disappears. I don't know where she goes Does she go back in the room or something? No, because they were downstairs. I know but where's Becca go? Does she shower? Did she say she was going on the shower? She disappeared. Maybe she had a poop. I don't know But she disappears for a while Katie's downstairs. She's doing her thing and all of a sudden she hangs up the phone and then the tv in the living room Goes off and it's just the fuzzy static Going right she turns off the tv. She's like, what the fuck turns it off Turns around it clicks back on on its own and she's like no fucking way. She's freaked out So she unplugs that but as she's unplugging it and she's standing in front of the tv You see in the glare of the tv like the reflection that something zooms past. It's blurry Right Then what happened she turns around and the next thing you know the fridge I think it was the fridge just opens on its own So they do this a couple times the fridge She has the fridge open and shuts it like the suspense like oh something's gonna be on the other side The first time shuts it nothing right Second time do you see something go by the hallway when she shuts it? Yeah Yeah Just yeah like very quick and she shuts it really quick and she's like fuck this Stars walking upstairs calling up for Becca. No response from Becca Yeah, and she's walking on the hall. She's going up coming up into her bedroom And there's just like so much water Under the door and onto the hallway And she slowly walks up to the door and goes to grab the door handle and this is the weird thing There's like water dripping from the door handle. Yeah, the water is there's water underneath. It's crazy She opens the door And there's I didn't see anyone else in the like Becca was not in her room either And the tv is on and it's the image Of a well well and that creepy image of the well and she freaks she's freaks out She's freaks out and in her face Turns all wear like in shock, but you don't see the full effect until later. Yeah, which when you do see it It's like pretty intense And then we go to this school. We meet Aidan He's sitting there in a classroom by himself with his teacher just drawing And you're hearing his mom roll up. She's bitching about something about work So you can it's painting the picture that she's young and She's Not necessarily like focused on being a parent. She's more career driven, right? Yeah, she's very sorry that she's late and Aidan like you start getting the vibe of what kind of kid he is He like packs himself up and he's like I'll wait in the car and he's like you deal with the teacher Yeah, he's more you get the vibe that he's more independent And they even say as much like yeah, he's independent for his age Yeah, and the teacher asks if she can talk to Rachel for a bit And you can tell Rachel does not want to give her the time and day her be her like Physical behavior like she said's on the table. She said on the chair. She just said some of the Taylor She's like all right. Whatever you're gonna eat. Yeah, she's young doesn't want to hear she doesn't have time for her quite frankly but the that the teacher does have like real concerns like Aidan just lost and you find out that he was close with Katie It was his cousin Yeah, but they were close. She babysitted him all the time They bonded and that was a close person for him an older person And literally just died three days ago and the teacher's concerned. She's like holy shit And she's like no, he'll do it in his own process. He doesn't say much About it and then The teacher brings up. Well, he did do these drawings. I want to show you Yeah, and then she's like it's really concerning and then what it looks like it looks like it's Katie In a grave Katie like in different scenes, but essentially she's dead But the problem is and they drop the bomb Here and this is where you kind of figure out Aidan is kind of a clairvoyant or he he has that supernatural ability Where he's special in that regard because then the teacher is like he drew this Five days ago. So before she died Yeah, that was already ongoing. Yeah, it was already going. Which why wouldn't wait the teacher report that anyways Like hey, he's drawing dead bodies. Oh, I don't know. Maybe she thought it was sleeping in a hole But I guess I guess it doesn't really matter because the mom doesn't really care She just brushed it off. She's like he's fine. Maybe this is his way of processing She does stop and think though. She's like holy shit. That was five days ago. She died at three days Yeah, and then that was it. She drives him home and then that in the car You can tell she keeps looking at him in the rear view mirror Like there's something something's up with that kid. Yeah, they get to her house And it's bedtime and she's like oh, hey, do you want to read something? He's like i'm tired Pretty bougie place For a reporter. I don't think reporters make that much money In the high rise. It's a pretty nice spacious apartment for downtown seattle. Yeah, great view And a and we just about to leave the room and he's like we don't have much time And she's like what are you talking about? She's like you're so young like thinking maybe he's thinking about death and yeah Same way because of his cousin dying right? And she's like you're young and he's like well katie said that she didn't have enough time And she's like no, but you're fine and the way he talks to her. He's like all right. Whatever. He's like good night ritual You're dismissed what she calls us her by her name not mom Which why did we ever find out why maybe he just also doesn't see her as the motherly hype The way she acts. She's like giving him mom vibes. I don't know okay Maybe or maybe yeah, he's just an odd kid and just calls him by the With the first name and so then it's the next day Again rituals just frantically running around trying to get dressed. She's running late And she heard her go to his to yell out for aid and she's like have you seen my black dress? Yeah, have you seen it? She can't find it and then it's painting that he's super independent super responsible because He's more organized than she is because he has her dress and she was ready to go. He's already dressed He knows how to tie it. Yeah, he's tying his tie. Yeah, man. He's in the mirror And she's even like whoa the fuck and she's like thanks They go to Katie's house. So we get the vibe that it's her funeral And there's a lot of people in there like family and then aiden We can see that he does have some feelings over his cousin's death He brings a rose and you can tell he gets a little emotional placing that flower next to her picture And Rachel you can tell she does not know how to act. She like wants to Embrace him and like comfort him, but then she's awkward about it and just kind of like awkwardly hugs him and gives him a kiss and she can't communicate. Yeah, she doesn't communicate very well So the purpose of this scene is it sets the tone it sets Rachel on the path to investigate the death of Katie so it's but it's prompted by her family's grief and Her curiosity, right? Like her mom pulls her or not her mom, but her sister, right? pulls Rachel aside and be like hey Something about this death doesn't add up She spent hours researching how a teenager gets a heart attack. Yeah, it just doesn't happen Couldn't find any other cases. She called doctors. Just trying to get information. She's not She doesn't believe this and this this is the logical thing that happened And if you look at it because people are mentioning like whoa, she had a heart attack We don't have an open casket. Yeah, which is a valid question, but how could any Who are the people that examined dead bodies? Goddamn it of Mortician. Yeah, isn't a mortician. No, they they kind of set the body up Well medical examiner to determine the death you can clearly look at her face She looks like a Van Gogh painting. So how the hell is that associated with? Yeah, how is that associated with fucking an heart attack, dude? She's gray and just looks horrible Yeah, and so her sister's name, Rachel's sister and then Miss Ruthie and she's like hey You guys were close like did she say anything when she doing anything weird? She's like no nothing that would explain her death And yeah, she's like you just do me a favor like this is what you do you investigate Can you please if I can look into this yeah and figure like help me find out? She essentially she's like I can't make any promises but I'll see what I can do Then she heads outside. She sees the young the younger kids what appears to be Katie's friends And then we do get to see in this scene because when Ruthie asks for her to investigate because It doesn't seem normal. We do get a scene of what? Katie actually looked like once. Yeah, it shows it very briefly for two seconds She was like it looks like she was in a closet just sitting squatting down Yeah, she was in her crows it like it looks like it just was something I was hovering over Oh gosh terrifying and freaking face. Yeah, I was creepy her eyes are like white milky white So yeah, Rachel goes outside and stars First first starting point is mingling with the friends. She plays the cool parent like she's coming out She's like hey guys. I'm a contemporary. What's up? I have a cigarette and then they're all smoking and she's like yeah I remember when I was 16 or whatever and trying to coax information out of them and the kids are dumb But one does say because she's like did she have a boyfriend And one did say she's like yeah, and they're trying to shut her up. But it was too late, right? Yeah, the other thing is She walked out while they were having a conversation about Becca too Like what scarabic is so bad that she's in a mental hospital. That's weird. Yeah, it's outside up And then we see we also see adam brodie From the oc and jennifer's body in here is very young Very very young And he kind of buds into the conversation and he's like yeah, she had a boyfriend. He's dead too He died the same night and this peaks Rachel's curiosity. She's like what seriously and they weren't together They both died separately from separate causes his was a supposed suicide And it shows a newspaper clipping, right? Eventually of him being Not pushed off but jumping off the high rise Seattle high rise. Yeah at the same time. We see aden He's walking upstairs And this is where we can see that he has some visions He sees katie's feet going upstairs Yeah Before her last moments, so he goes up there where he's I don't know curious or something and goes into her bedroom and He's looking around He's looking around that same thing a reflection in the tv does to him too Where it moves around And britu goes upstairs and finds him and she's like hey like Maybe it's not a good idea. We're up here. Let's go back downstairs and As she's walking out, she Finds katie's your book and she opens it and she flips through it And she notices something very odd all those like faces. They're scribbled out. Yeah, she circles around them Well, it's like a collage too like models their magazines And it just shows everybody's face What I don't get the purpose of at one point. They just start drawing circles It was just a reference that's how to look at the ring. Mm-hmm. Okay And she finds in that yearbook though, like a ticket stuff to go get pictures developed Yeah, so she takes it with her to get developed or she had to go pick up the pictures So we go to the next day and ritul did pick up the pictures. She's flipping through all this photos And it's of katie and her friends at that weekend at the cabin That she said she was with So it's just a lot of normal pictures But then she gets to towards the end of the stack of pictures and the faces started learning Yeah, like the war so after it kind of shows the transition You don't know it yet like before watching the tape and after the tape And then she gets home to her apartment. She's flipping like you said Newspapers obituaries. She's putting it together because she figures out who's with katie it was her boyfriend and then two other people it was another couple that were camping Yes, she sees them in the pictures Yes, they're noticing that all four of them died the same night at 10 pm and the other two died in a car crash And then we see ritul at work She's calling them morgue trying to find out what time katie died And this was kind of a funny interaction her boss walks out to her She did something about work and she's like, oh, yeah, it's funny and he goes, no, you're fired And she's like, no, I'm not he's like, yeah, you are and she's like go away. Yeah, she's like no I'm working on something. It's gonna be awesome. Yeah, he's like really. What is it? I can't tell you. Yeah, she's just like shush shush Yeah So he's like, okay And she finds out that katie also died at 10 pm. So this is really odd four people did four different places And she has something solid to work on now. She's like, what the fuck is this? She's intrigued Mm-hmm. How does she find out where to go though for the cabin? Does she go to a high school? Oh, that's right. That's right. Yeah, the pictures have the name So she drives up to the cabin launch She walked into the main office and the guy is like playing Magic tricks with with cards and he holds up before she says anything so weirdo and a creeper He's like, it's just your heart pick a card. Is this your card? Yeah, and I don't think he's intentionally supposed to be weird, but he's just kind of a loner kind of loser out there Yeah, and she's like, no, she's like, no, no Kind of playing a long trigger information mentions her knees right away. They're just trying to find her Yeah, exactly. Have you seen her and shows them pictures? And he recognizes he's like, yeah, they left without paying But he's like, that's not uncommon around here And they were complaining a lot specifically about the tv it wasn't working. He's like, but this is what we have Movies like vhs do it is for them to watch while they're in the cabins. They don't give a good reception up there Yeah, and she's like, oh really? Yeah, and she goes and looks at the tapes And he mentions again. Yeah, they didn't pay And he's the world's worst magician because he keeps showing her wrong cards So she offers. She's like fine. I mean, I'm what I'll take an app. I'll take the exact same cabin that they staying in And she finds an unmarked tape And takes it with her. Yeah, because she's he's like, well, let me go back. He grabs something for her, right And yeah, the keys I yeah, and then she quickly smuggles the tape So she goes to the cabin puts the tape in and the tape starts playing This is yeah, your first scene of what the hell's going on and you do see the the first thing you see is that well You see we don't know. It's a well. Yeah, you just see a white black screen white ring in the middle of it like a circle Yeah And then there's like bloody water a chair A lady brushing her hair in the mirror And you see a girl some are with the hair on her face You see this tree that keeps burning. There's a stupid fly that won't go away Eyeballs fingernails And then again, it just kind of circles, but it's an unsettling tape Like the chairs upside down a ladder is falling just random things just kind of keep coming around in circles And then it ends and at the end you see the well And then that's the end of the movie and she's like what the fuck Yeah, but she's kind of like freaked out because it is kind of a freaky movie Yeah, and as soon as the movie ends the phone rings Yeah, and it went to tell her seven days And that freaks her out too. She's like what the fuck? I mean she looks outside, right? Yeah And yeah, meanwhile he keeps focusing on that tree which it does play a part in this movie Like the tree outside of this cabin And it's in the movie as well like in the tapes you watched yes And you go to Rachel's apartment And you get a bike then it's the next day and we see eight and he made himself lunch Fucking packed himself up and he's like bye, Rachel I'm going to school and she's like like cooped up in her room doesn't even say goodbye No, just going through her stuff that she's already consumed man Someone should be calling like cps on this lady and then we get another we're seeing we're aiding gets off the school bus He gets to school. We don't know yet who this guy is Well, no, he's walking Not he's not at school. He left the apartment and he walks outside and he stops and looks up And there's this guy staring at him but he got off a school bus Did he? I don't know because what's his name was walking up because she called him to the apartment And yeah, because she's like I want you to check this tape out. Maybe you can help me figure it out Oh, I think it was outside of the apartment. I said school bus. I thought he made it to school I think he was jumping home to school bus Well, we watch it, but it's irrelevant Either he's on or off. It doesn't matter. I think he's getting on Doesn't matter. I think I'm right, but because he goes upstairs the guy goes upstairs. He's there He visits before he gets there though. There's a brief. Yeah, I contact between Aidan and this guy. Yeah outside the apartment complex Or the high-rise and she's outside while he's making his way or she's not quite outside yet So she lets him in and kind of explains what's going on. She's like I have this tape Can you watch it? And she puts it in for him and leaves She goes out on the deck and she starts staring kind of looking at life looking at other people's thing I don't know what the purpose was of that well before the she shows them the pictures that she's been taking of herself Yeah, and they're bleeding and he even takes a few of them And she mentions the tape and yeah, let's him watch it Yeah, and he's not impressed either. So but what's the purpose of her being on the tequila time? I don't know, but what was the purpose of seeing all those people just seeing how life is going I don't know what the intent. I'm asking what the intention I don't know what the intent was. I'm saying feeling field time Sure I don't know Uncle He comes out and he's like all right. I made it through And he's like yeah, it wasn't the greatest. It's a college fucking movie He's like I ain't impressed whatever But I don't know if she's like well, there's this like urban legend attached to it, right? And the phone goes off the phone starts ringing The phone rings and she goes up and she's clearly shaking like disturbed by the phone call But she doesn't answer. She lets it go to voicemail And he's like are you sure like maybe you're just really tired and you're working a lot and you're freaking yourself out And she's like no I don't get scared easy. Like you know me. Yeah, she's like do I get rattled. No. Do I scare easy? No Am I factual? Yes And he's like dude people don't die from watching movies Yeah And she's like well, it takes a week. That's why I'm still alive and he's like whatever So he leaves But before he does she asks. She's like is there a way to fight now like who made the movie I was made where I came from And he says he'll take a look at it and ask and asks her to make a copy of it for him And after he leaves she comes back inside the apartment and notices that she has one voicemail And she just completely deletes it. She doesn't want to hear it So she goes to where it takes the tape with her and She starts playing the tape and making a copy of it. I think this is where it happens Yeah And she's re one in the tape and notices that the machine like doesn't show normal numbers They look like weird symbols. Yeah, this is your first thing like it's yeah, it's not showing the The dating and the coding of it Yeah, so we go to Noah's house And it shows So when she records it though in that station She starts going to nosebleed and she has a vision I thought that was the second time she tries to make pictures of the of the Movie because like doesn't she have issues? She takes it to another so this is the first time when she makes the copy Oh, I don't work on she takes it to another place. Yeah, that's right So we get on the screen. This is friday and it's day two Yeah, it's counting it down for us And it she takes no other copy that he wanted And he goes to play it and he says that like the track in the movie is weird like Apparently movies have a track on them and it tells you We'll have them what type of device the movie was made. He was common. He's like, oh, you give me this I'm gonna know a hundred percent there everything has a track I can see when and where and but then when he does get it. He's like this is impossible You can't track this. I don't know how they did this, but there's nothing. I don't know when this was Yeah, and so they're both sitting there rewatching these nerding out pretty much Rewatching the movie again and there's one scene so real quick his job though He's uh, what is he? He's like a photographer That's the vibe that I got. He has a bunch of he knows everything about cameras Another thing he looks like a starving artist, but then he lives in this huge converted old like What do you call it? I love to harm it, but it's a loft but at some point it was a business like a And it's fucking huge space. Yeah, yeah, and it's got its own elevator and shit That's cool. Yeah, so anyways he's starving artists, but man The way they must have a great religion because I'm there finding this stuff That's pretty awesome There's a scene of the portrait of the lady And they say that there's something weird about the movie. They're messing with the tape Trying to figure out what's in there and then this girl shows up And Noah gets up and he gets all nervous and he's like, oh, hi. Hi ritual. This is my Introduces ritual as his friend and introduces the girl as his assistant. Yeah, you can clearly tell there's more She's not just his assistant. She goes and kisses him on the cheek and Rachel gets a little like pissed and weirded out And he's like, well that tape, you know, my assistant here could probably look at it She's like, no, I don't want her watching it and he takes it as she's jealous And she is a little bit jealous, but I think she's starting to catch on like I don't want another person to see in this movie Yeah, if it's real, yeah So she takes it And she goes and gets in the elevator and he follows her and he's like, dude, are you serious? And they have all this personal drama come out and she's like, well, why don't we just cut to the chase? You're gonna say I'm a stuck-up bitch And I'm gonna say you never fall through follow through on anything And they go through that, right? Yeah, she's like, so we'll save us both the trouble and I'll just get that fuck out of here And he's like, all right. Bye And she leaves she's underneath your head from the apartment So it doesn't She leaves the apartment and then Runs into a ladder and wears her out a little bit and she's just looking at it and this guy comes up He's like, ma'am don't walk under a ladder. Don't you know, it's bad luck Yeah, because it's like a ladder similar to the what she sees on the tape, right? And then we go to the hospital and it's day three Yeah, she goes over to visit Becca the friend that's in my mental hospital And she just wants to know if Becca was there did she see anything When katie died does she know anything? So okay, you're you're blowing through this when we show up to this uh the mental hospital There she's walking with a screen like this nurse is Dragon a screen like rolling it and for some reason she can't be exposed to is it light? People I think it's the tv. I thought it was a tv It's a tv, but like she's walking around the whole time with this like maybe she's just terrified of screens Yeah, just any screens because it just because she's walking through the hallways like this And then the screen she stops and then she does see the screening and then she freaks out a little bit. Doesn't she like what does she do? I don't know. I just Cut the first part when the nurse is walking her to this room. That's what i'm saying What does she do there when she stops and she's a screen The looks and the the lady like blocks her immediately. She's like come on. Let's just keep going. Oh, yeah. She kind of gets her out of it. Yeah Yeah, so Rachel's asking questions And she's just sitting there quiet and not really saying much. Yeah, head down She's like and she gets to the point. She's like did she mention a tape? What was in the tape? Was she scared? Did you see something? And Becca's starting to catch on that Rachel looks like she's scary and she knows way too much about this tape Yeah, so she grabs her hand and she's like well she has a power You get like this thing like she knows something you don't like she's like you have seven days Or some shit. She's absent at yeah four days. She already knows she watched the tape like she has like an inside track on that Yeah, well she touches her hand and flips it around so I don't know she's seeing something That's what i'm saying. She did see something because she called it out four days And when she when Rachel's asking like this something happened was she afraid and Becca's like you'll find out she'll show you Yeah, what's she saw? So she's seeing visions too So if you don't watch the tape and but you're still within the radius you still get affected by it Apparently, yeah, yeah, like she's so traumatized And then we go to This is like an archive shop The second place she takes the tape too And this is where you were mentioning so some lady shows her how to work a machine and take pictures of of the tape Yeah old school tech man Yeah, and the lady's like, oh, whatever you're watching. She's like gonna watch this a lot Yeah So doesn't she do so just to back up she's at what's his name her boyfriend or ex boyfriend? Noah Noah's house and she's like, whoa, what is that? She sees something in between the tape, right? When they're rewinding and he's like, whoa, hold up You're gonna burn through this and she's like, well wait Just a little bit more a little bit more and there's something in between doesn't get it because then she ruins the tape But now she has a super high tech device, right when she's doing the recording. She's getting pictures Off of the tapes and they're printing out This machine in particular is able to get that a little bit better That in between scene that you couldn't see normally And what does she see it's a lighthouse And she figures that out and then she ends up getting that and then What else happens she gets a bloody nose, but what's what's going on to everything is She tries to get a picture of the lighthouse and the machine turns off so she calls for help And she gets it running again And the movie keeps going and she sees that fly that keeps running. Yeah, and she goes for it and Fucking picks it and pulls it out of the screen. Yeah, and right. That's when her nose bleeds starts And then the lady's like dude, you're bleeding. Yeah, she's like, did you need something? Yeah, so she ends up leaving with two pictures one of the lady in the mirror brushing her hair and in the lighthouse And then she adds to the library. Mm-hmm. And she starts doing newspaper clippings And she figures out it's an organ First she finds out which the the lighthouse which one it is in specific Yeah, because she's in the library. She sees the lighthouse. She just happens to stumble upon it What you even brought it up like how the hell did she get that her picture was not very clear But it does make sense if it's local and there's only so many eye houses like I admit this was like a perfect storm of finding it This was a she stumbled the pot. It was it was a stretch because Yeah, it makes sense that she would find it if she knew that it was local But they didn't say whether it was local or not. Yeah, but the settings. I don't know I feel like I really houses by the water but uh But yeah, and then she digs a little deeper the people at own lighthouse are the morgans And then she sees a picture of nurses and anamorgans one of them Was she right she's in black and all the rest of them are white weird I don't know there are there's this picture of all these ladies everybody's dressed. Yeah in white so they're nurses, right? I didn't get that from this. I just I don't know if I had to deal with her horse competitions But she's only one of all black it might be And she notices that So first she notices that's the lady. It's in these pictures Yeah, and so she recognizes it and then at the bottom of the picture It's the names of the people in the photo. Yeah funds the name looks her up She was this big Late person who hosted horse shows And there's all these pictures of her with awards and competitions and very well to do their prominent family Especially on that island. Yeah, and she keeps digging and then finds out that there was this mysterious horse deaths That were investigated So she takes pictures of all of this because that clearly intrigues her and she's like what the fuck? Yeah And then there's another article about it mentions like the horse has started getting better after their breeder I legit like committed suicide And she remembers in the movie. There's that scene where a lady jumps off the cliff And then She finds out that the lady at one point was in a mental hospital And she stops herself So she's taking notes of everything she's reading stops herself looks down And she notices that she's scribbling circles around Photograph faces as well doing what the rest of them are doing too like that has have come across this film And then we get a quick brief look at Noah. He's like buying cigarettes There's a security camera and the store and he looks up Yeah, and he gets close like right under the camera and looks and his face starting to blur This is what freaks him out. He's like what the fuck maybe it's real. Yeah, and he ends up calling her, right? Yeah, so she gets home And she had a babysitter there watching aid in and this is when the babysitter was like, oh, he's so responsible He's so good. He put himself to sleep. He offered a read. He offered a read the babysitter a book nighttime. Yeah a book So we do goes and checks on aid in He's asleep and then she calls her sister and she asks if she can watch aid in she has to travel And then she takes a sip of water and stars coughing And choking and she puts the phone down Who is she talking to her sister? I am about what though About watching aid in because she has to travel for work. Is she yeah? Oh, I don't know. I kind of glaze over that part every time I'm just chuckling because it's literally what I know what you said, but I don't know if that's is that exactly what they're talking about? Yes, okay Because she has to she find out she's gonna get on the ferry. I know that part. Yeah, but she's having her sister watch him She doesn't give anything else though any other detail. I feel like she says something else No, so she's in the middle of this conversation with her She starts to choke. She's like hold on Yeah, she starts choking and pulls and pulls at a very long I thought it was hair efforts, but it looks like it's a string. It's like a p. Yeah a piece of rope Attached to like those patches that get attached to your face for like medical tests And she gets weirded out which that's a really big piece of string and thing to pull out of your mouth I'd be concerned that make me a believer that I'm gonna die in seven days So she grabs the phone and she's you know, I'm trying to tell her sister about it But there's no answer on the other side and she notices that there's water like Yeah, it comes through the phone. Yeah, and she gets weirded out She walks by she goes to check an aid in again and she opens the door but Instead of aid in there's like I chair in the middle of the bedroom a Woman with long hair sitting in it and like a pool a pool of water underneath it. Yeah and The she gets she's freaked out Still have so much as fucking in the aid in his bedroom Yeah And she steps and the girl turns around and grabs her in the arm Yeah This is when she wakes up and she has like a burnt hand print on her arm. Yeah, she was dreaming. She was having a nightmare but she does get up she goes and Yeah, she calls for aid in Yeah, she's like aid in aid and and then all he's not answering and she walks the living room the door shut to the living room And you're static. Yeah, she hears a stack. She opens the door real quick and it's aid in watching that movie And she freaks out. Yeah, she's like, what the fuck are you doing? She's like, how could you I'm like, why are you fucking living if you're doing so much investigating And you're starting to believe it's real. Why would you just leave the movie where Anybody can't grab it. I would be walking that up. Yeah And he said that he couldn't sleep and he's like who is she? And immediately the phone rings And she's like fuck and she answers a couple times but then hangs up the phone And she finally answers and it's Noah and he's like a ritual. I believe you. Yeah, I think there might be something to this Yeah, you see his back seat. It's full of he's been taking pictures of himself Yeah And it's all blurry faces And she's like Noah He watched the movie. He's like who? He's like who and then she's like our son Um, so a pretty dramatic thing So pieces it together if you weren't like already aware when they're staring at each other when he's entering the bus But yeah, that's his son And he still feel weird which I'm I don't understand is it because he's young And they just had him way too young because eightens what nine? Yeah, that's what eight or nine says because the next scene is Rituals investigating Noah has it in the back seat drawing And this is a really fucking awkward interaction because I didn't go I've seen you in my school. You take pictures of me I was like, that's fucking creepy dude. He's like, yeah, you're right Yeah, and he's like you're not around much and he's like, but do you want me to be around more? Is just like not really he's like ritual told me you guys were young and I was like, oh shit There's like way too much But they start bonding because he makes him laugh doesn't he again? He's like, well, I like maybe it won't be a good dad And I don't know eightens is something like the smartest and yeah, doesn't miss his hand like you're both a bunch of clowns Yeah, you know what the fuck you're doing So yeah, they go and drop off eight and ritual sisters have their Ruthie's house And when she drops him off ritual does go I'm serious one more time into Katie's room. Mm-hmm. And she's flipping through a notebook and notices that Katie was sketching like horses and scribbles and just rear things and the last one was a circle to the ring. Yeah So her and Noah get back on the road And ritual's catching them up on everything that she's found out. She found out that Anna was a very nice lady She was married and she loved horses and then something happened and shit went down Yeah, the horses were dying I'm seriously So her plan is going to the island where they lived and look around well, they both set a plan in place She's gonna go to the island. He establishes. He's gonna be in town and go check the psych ward Yeah, the mental hospital because she doesn't have enough time And but she figured out something like someone was there was Anna Yeah, Anna was a mental hospital But she doesn't know it was for Samara Yeah, and so they're gonna split up just to take get this yeah divide and conquer. Yeah So she's about to get on the ferry and he gives her a drawing that I didn't draw for her And she takes it She's again flipping through more articles. Well, it's dramatic It's dramatic because it's pouring rain and he's like wait you forgot this so suddenly he's a caring father It just took a videotape I always think that seems funny. He's like now he's stepping up Here's your picture from our son. Yeah, he loves you Like is he the kind of guy at one point was like hey, I'm gonna go out for a pack of smokes and never came back Yeah He gave me that back. Yeah Hilarious or she was like don't come around and he's like say no more. He's a good looking dude. Obviously he's about himself He has a girlfriend. I know but he's more about himself. Oh So yeah, he didn't have time for the kid. Mm-hmm. Yeah, but now he's starting to make time Now that he's about to fucking die. He's gonna die in seven days. He's like I have a son I got responsibilities. It was the old trope. I thought I was gonna have more time I know I I thought I was gonna one day be my dad To the kid when he's in his 20s hilarious But yeah, she jumps on the fairy and then she She's flipping through some articles. Yes And in this scene, she sees a horse and a trailer Anna was injured and then there's mentions on this article about a daughter and she's like holy shit Anna had a daughter. Yeah, so yeah, she sees a fucking horse in a trailer and she goes up. She wants to go pet him What you never do that's no stupid. You don't go up to someone else's horse On a train wars was like making noises like don't get near me Well, the horse starts freaking out as she's getting closer because obviously she has she's been touched She's cursed. She has the fucking devil's stench on her And the horse is like, uh, get me have the fuck out of here. This is fucking crazy I'm gonna die like every other horse And she insists on keep touching it like if I saw a horse get that upset And she's trying to calm the horse in Yeah, you would just back up. Like she doesn't even move. She's just like huh and then the horse starts like kicking the Horsey I got you know you fucking don't yeah, and then the horse just starts beating the shit out of the trailer pops out of it It gets loose. Oh, yeah, you kind of know where this is leading But it's running around and everybody's like what the fuck and then the horse's owner the girl starts screaming It's fucking sad and this horse is running around all of a sudden it loops back And then it is starting to dart at Rachel, right? And then Rachel's like holy shit ducks the horse jumps over and lands in the water Sadness seen of the movie. They're dramatic. Yeah, he's trying to swim away from the ferry and it gets sucked underneath Yeah, samara is like fucking gonna kill him and everybody wants to the other side Of the ferry and they're waiting to see if it's gonna come out and you just see blood because the Horse went through the propellers and they killed him. Yeah, sad day, man Yeah, but you know that was kind of an afterthought everybody else was like oh shit And Rachel's like well shit happens every day sometimes twice the little girl was screaming. She was a traumatizing I was like no, but it was essentially well. What can you do? Yeah? Yeah And then we go to the psychiatric hospital. So no, I made it to his task He's asking for records for Anna and they're like no you don't he's like well. I've been there before I've been upstairs They're like dude. It's fucking downstairs. Yeah, and he's like fucking suckers Yeah, and that's all he needed and he breaks in yeah, he gets in there And he doesn't know quite what he's looking for except that he knows the date Is that what he's looking for and stuff about and I see what she was there for Anna Morgan But he has a date somehow he has a date because that's how the dude downstairs Or at this point does he go to that? Oh, that's the second place So he does find Anna Morgan stuff, right? And then that's when he finds out that there is a kid samara Yeah, on his own he finds out. Yeah, so in the meantime we go and he's like, oh, I gotta go tell Rachel, right? So he starts that process To get to Rachel. I don't know right My notes I have Rachel makes it to the farmhouse Right, but him after that scene he needs to tell her the latest development But he can't get ahold of her because her phone doesn't have any reception Um I believe so So we see Rachel making it over to the farm You get a glance of that lighthouse that she saw in the pictures And she gets dropped off and she walks up to it And knocks and I want answers so she's poking around seeing if someone's home and She looks through the windows and then finally And the farm like out on the What is it called? Just outside the farm spots mr. Morgan. Yeah, he's out in the field. He's working on a fence That holds the horses in Clearly there hasn't been anything in there in a long time, but he's fixing it up And she's like hi and he's like you're here about the horses and She identifies herself as a reporter Yeah, and he starts walking back to the house and she follows him And she walks inside the house and notices things around the house that were items that she saw in the movie like the mirror The window that kept showing on the in the movie And she immediately pulls out the vhs from her bag and she's like, do you know what this is? He's like, where did you get that? And she's like, well at mountain. What was it? Mountage or something like that. Yeah, and but and he's like, huh, you don't know yet Like everything about to happen, but he knows what's up. He's like, huh fascinating Yeah, and She's like, I think it's a message from your wife He's like, no, nothing good comes from that Yeah, and he's like, is that the only copy and she like stops and she's like, I have a copy for purposes And she's like, don't you want to see it and he just wants nothing to do Yeah, he's like, there's nothing good on this tape Yeah, and she starts getting like demanding and accusing. She's like, where's your daughter? And he's like, what daughter? I've never had a daughter. Yeah And he's like, what's wrong with you guys like reporters just poking at people's lives essentially And he's like, just leave things alone and kicks her out of his house And then this is where I picked up back on the hospital He finds, no, it finds, and to me, I thought they were x-rays at first The drawings of like four states and articles But there were copies, but they were like x-rays And there's records that they was uh And they were actual x-rays because they're asking they're like, how did you do this? Like you did this and she's like, it just came to me in an image But she didn't draw. She's like, I didn't draw this. It just happened Yeah And there was it was recorded there on the records that there was a medical tape that was recorded And boy that's willing to hand back to the other place And it's a doctor sitting there with Samara, right? Yeah Before we get there, we see Rachel calls Aiden And she asks how like the drawing that he made for her, the note handed her Yeah, there was a house and she's like, hey, the house that you have on there On the picture, how did you know where it was? If Aiden has never been to the island And he's like, oh, the little girl told me about the house. She shows him things She doesn't like the barn and the horses keep her up at night. Yeah And she lives in a dark place now And it's like, okay And then you go back to the psychiatrist's house because at this point Rachel is just Going wherever the clues are leading her Right And she has her grandson that doctor playing with some toy And Rachel goes over This lady is the only doctor on the island and Rachel asks that she knows the Morgan family Right So she does she tended to Anna and she also took care of Samara And she's like, well, what do you know about Samara? You know Why was she in the hospital? Was she okay? All the doctor knows is that Anna really wanted to have kids They couldn't have kids one day they went away and came back with with one They adopted this kid and that's when everything started Yeah And pretty much the doctors insinuating hey once I got in samara the horses started dying everything Around including other people including yourself. Everything was dark Gloomy depressing. It was not good. It was almost bad luck to everybody But as soon as she left it turned around Yeah And as far as you know the last of the doctor knows is that samara was referred to another psychiatrist Yeah Someplace else and as far as she knows she's probably still with that clinic Yeah, she's still alive Which I think the doctor knows a little bit more than what she's leading on Yeah Yeah, and so we go to the psychiatry to the other clinic hospital. We know it's pretending to be the father of Samara or Anna to get more like to get the tape Yeah, he's like 1972 on mr. Morgan Yeah, and the guy's like Follow me mr. Morgan and then they start talking. He's like, yeah, I'm a real stickler about this I need to fucking my shit up. He's like, I'm not stupid bro. I know you're not mr. Morgan Yeah, and it's so funny. He goes like I just want to watch the tape He opens the box and it's fucking empty and he's like, oh now I'm pissed He's like, does it say who's the last person who checked it out? Yeah, you mr. Morgan. That was fucking funny. Yeah And then so yeah, so Rachel's back again to the Morgan's house And this is when you were mentioning Noah is trying to get a holdover. Yeah And he's like fuck I got to get a holdover. So he starts the process of going getting on the ferry going to see her meeting her on the island and britu's at the door mr. Morgan is Doesn't want anything to do with her So he's not answering the door And she but the door opens like it's already open. Yeah, so she of course makes her way in And she's calling for him and she finds the box and there's like old medical like papers birth certificate of samara He he brought all this out. You can tell he is looking at over here. Yeah, and in the in a tv that has a vhs Attached to it. Yeah, there's a tape there. Oh, she grabs up in the box Or was it already in the vhs? No, it was in the box Okay, and it has like the letters sms mean samara morgan. I'm assuming her initials Exactly and she puts it in and it's a video of samara in in a hospital or in a clinic room or somewhere like you're mentioning The tape that noel was trying to get And the doctors are talking here's a little samanta in a white gown Samara and a white gown and she has a camera on her face and they're talking to her and asking her questions Yeah And she's like, I just want to go home. They're like, well, you need to stop hurting people and thinking about it She's like I can't yeah, she they're like your mom says you never sleep Do you ever dream and they're like what about the pictures? I mean, yeah, she to just things about them and they just they just are they manifest themselves Yeah, so somewhere I read that this is as far as samara is concerned. This is her superpower She's able to Think things in her head and making my period neither other people's heads or like intellectual images So she was making her parents go crazy by putting images in their head. Yeah, which they did this She essentially put it on tape now Yeah with her powers And they're like, well, you can see your mommy once we know what's wrong with you and like make you better And she's like, I love him And they're like, yeah, but you don't want to hurt anyone do you and this is kind of creepy where she's like, but I do Yeah, but i'm sorry She's like I just won't stop but like, oh, yeah, she's evil And she's not stupid. She's like, you know, I know they want to leave me here like dad only cares about his horses. He wasn't care about me Yeah But we don't know quite yet what the extent she doesn't know Rachel doesn't know To the extent she just knows her dad and mom a manager at the psych ward terrible terrible parents Yeah, and at this point she's behind it. Yeah, and hits her over the head, right? Well mumble and he's pretty much like I told you still she's like, what did you do? Yeah, what'd you do to her? What'd you do? You killed her and he's at this point has a he takes the tv with Hey, he takes the tv he's carrying upstairs and he's got a power cord with him And extension cord and he's doing all the stuff. He's hooking it up. So when you get closer upstairs. It's dark I mean you start seeing water on the ground. It's flooding you overflowed the tub He started staying in it. He's still bullshit into it. He's like, well, he's this he's tired of everything He's like you have no idea She would put again images in her heads like make us see things She'll never stop. He's like you being here investigating shows me that she will never stop Yeah, and then at this point he says a couple other things, right? Yeah He's he's he didn't mention that his wife was not supposed to have a kid Yeah, and he just wants it all to stop and she's like, well, I have to stop her otherwise Her son's gonna die and he's like it's too late. He's already he's gonna die. Oh, yeah, he's like he will die and So yeah, he has like you see like a wall in the bathroom is just Tower with all kinds of electronics. Yeah, and he Pull up he steps inside the tub and he puts on a horse He puts on like a horse thing that they put on their heads. He puts on his head and it's all metal Oh, and then he drops the tv tv into the bath and he gets electrocuted and dies She screams At this point she's in the hallway like screaming crutch down and then this is when Noah shows up. Yeah and After she comes on she's like hey, remember what Aidan said about samara like She doesn't like the barn the horses keep her awake and that's kind of a clue for them to try to find out More of what happened to samara so they see on on the barn that they have at the morgans The very top you can see there's a door. Yeah, so they oh in the barn Yeah, they break into a they grab the huge ladder that they saw in the movie and they climb up to the very top Which is really high up it is well. This is where the ladder is playing apart. Yeah from them from the tape So they get up there there and the when they get up there the chair that spinning that plays a part here So there's a tv there's a chair. There's a bedroom the rocking horse and the tv's playing apart in it too So this is kind of the origin of this tape because the tv's big extent because they're like They just left her alone up here. Essentially it's a room But then they figured like oh they didn't leave her alone. They left her with a tv Yeah, and they're like her mom was going crazy and morgan blamed the kid so he threw her up here and I deal with her Yeah And that's why the horses kept her up at night. Yeah, because the horses were there And so they do notice and she was putting images into the horses had killed Yeah, and they killed them more again like the horses more than he liked her Yeah So then she killed the horses she had like fuck all of this and which led to more Where we start to figure it out where she now Sleeps in the dark place and that's the bottom of a well Obviously she drowned Hey, it's dark but fucked up In the in the room where she lived in the barn they see there's like wallpaper and there's the crack And they start pulling at it and they see that there's it's like all wood and they see an image that was burnt onto it And ritual says she's like oh it looks like the burn that I have on my arm And she's like I know that tree. Yeah, they pull it off and it's a tree And she's like and no, it's like oh, yeah, it's in the tape. She's like, no, I've been there. It's at the the shelter mountain. Yeah So they drive up there and you see the sign that is day seven and they get into the same cabin again And you know, Rachel's like, yeah, it's been a week since she watched the tape She's like I'm done for now. It's your turn to take care of aid and for whatever time you have Yeah, try to figure this out Yeah, they're arguing. It's really late. She's just kind of giving up and notice of sentences throwing things around And notices that there's a bunch of like marbles and they fall and they just pulled the center Of the floor and the cabin And they think it's weird. So they left off like a rug and there's a circle Burned onto the wood on the floor. So they find a hatchet. No, it finds a hatchet and it starts breaking up the floor Rachel finds a flashlight and he just keeps breaking it apart And this turns into a pretty big hole on the floor in this cabin. Yeah, and there's a what the well. It's underneath The floor which they built this cabin over the well is weird to me, but yeah So it has a cover they open and it's super dark. Yeah And read and then ritual is flashing the flashlight trying to see but you can't see anything Yeah, it's super deep and they're like, okay, we got to drop something down there At the same time the tv store is kind of flickering TV's flickering water Flooding starting to happen and it's working the nails out of the ground or like off the the wood for And then what's happening is now that tv is kind of you can see where it's going. They're bullshitting down there trying to figure it out All of a sudden that tv the the wood gives the tv slides down and hits Rachel then the chest and she gets hit into the Down to the well into the well. Yeah, and Noah's freaking eyes. What the fuck he doesn't know if she died What's going on? She's not really answering. She's kind of obviously she took a nasty spill which Let's be real. She wouldn't ask her right. She would have been hurt Badly, it would have been knocked out. She would have hit the sides. There's no way she would have felt as clean as she did Her face and that was it. I know it's crazy. It's how much water is at the bottom. How does she not hit the bottom? Yeah, exactly break something. Yeah. Yeah, so she gets up and she's like, I'm good Yeah, he's like all right. I gotta work on getting you out again. She's still has a flashlight. She's looking around She notices that there's scratches on the side of the well She finds a fingernail And she remembers in the movie there was like a fingernail falling off And then she's like has her arms in the water which would have been so gross She reaches down and feels just like a long string of hair Yeah And in the hand grabs her again from under the well and it throws her way back in time And you see way before this cabins were built It was just this big open field There's that tree that we keep seeing on the background and samara's looking down at this well There's horses running in the background And then ana her mom comes up and she's like, oh, it's so peaceful Things are gonna be so like so much better. All right And this she goes over and puts a plastic bag over her head Over her head Starts suffocating samara. And she's like, oh, everyone it was a baby and fucking throws This girl down pretty dramatic. It's a pretty dramatic scene Throws her down. It's kind of terrifying. It is and then they end up sealing the top Yeah, and so we find out later in the scene. She doesn't die right there She's like Rachel. She fell down there. She's stay there alive. She didn't suffocate. She was up Yeah, she's survived and that's how they she finds out. She's like she didn't die For seven days. Yeah, that's how long that's fucked up. Yeah, but that's not the end of the movie, isn't it? Yeah, so we're just pushing more water around and like she has like this manifestation of samara's body as a person with Flush and bone and this is the CG And she picks her up. She's like, it's okay. I'm like Corbases her and slowly stirs melting back into a skeleton. Yeah Noah calls her out You can see Stern again more and more dark And next thing you know, yeah, police and firefighters are there. They cut them both out Noah tells her that they're gonna bury samara within like next week or something And Rachel's a little confused. She's like, well, you know, and I wanted kids so bad Why would she do this? She's like I get like sometimes kids like to cry or drop or like to get to this level Yeah, and yeah, this is where he's like I can't imagine. Can you imagine like being in a well alone? Like by yourself as a kid, right? Like how long would someone survive? And she's like Seven days exactly just fucking brutal. Yeah, can you imagine that just pitch black for seven days? And she looks pretty young like what 11 10 if like nine. Yeah, she looks pretty young So we go back to root this house Rachel and Noah pick up eight and they take him back to Rachel's house And They have a brief moment where they hold hands. Yeah They're starting to rekindle. They went through some shit together Yeah, he's like, I love you, baby. She's like, I love you too. Now we're mature now. We can do this So Rachel, let me get in those tonings Noah leaves She goes to bed and she actually does something motherly she goes to bed On this with no one or not Noah, but eight and she falls asleep on the same bed She's she's got a whole new outlook on motherhood and just life in general But after seeing what samara went through she's like fuck. I gotta love my son a little bit more Yeah, you can't criticize and I look at you. You let your kid watch a fucking killer table exactly Yeah, and even eight and he wakes up and he's like, what the fuck you're sleeping on the bed with me Like this is weird. He's like, aren't you going to work? Like you're gonna be late and she's not today And yeah, and this is where we see sheds not over because he's like what happened to the girl He's like is she still in the dark place? She's like not anymore. She's got set free We set her free and he's like you set her free. You weren't supposed to let her out of the dark Yeah, and she's like no he she won't hurt you and he's like you don't fucking understand ritual She never sleeps. She never stops and he gets a nose bleed and she looks at his arm And he has the same like burnt hand print into his arm She's already coming for him and she's like how the fuck did I get away? yeah, and then we see no one's working from home and We start noticing signs of stuff's gonna happen. There's like a ring of a circle of water on the newspaper And he's tv turns on again, that's static-ing yeah And he checks it turns it off. It turns on again and then We see on the tv there's the well And then ritual at the same time. She's trying to call him and tell him to watch out, but he's not answering his phone exactly And she's just calling him like crazy. She ends up leaving aiding at home and starts running And trying to get to his house. Yeah, she eventually gets there though So no one's here alone with this tv that won't turn off he walks up to it to see what's wrong with it And then out of the well, you see samara crawl out the epic classic seed that everyone knows She crawls out of the well. Yes cross to the field and out of the tv Yeah crawling towards him. He's freaked out He's trying to get away. He trips up and then that's kind of the end of him, right? Yeah, yeah, oh what we this is what we briefly see like samara looks Yes out of her hair and this scary white Yeah, she's crazy. Yeah, yeah Yeah, and he screams and his face kind of freezes Rachel makes it there And she walks in there and as she's calling him, you know, it's just her And she sees blood on the floor in the in the apartment and finds Noah on the chair And there's like water under the chair where he died where he's sitting right? She flips him over and freaks out and that's when we see his face and he's like Another grows looking face. Yeah And then she freaks out. She's like, oh fuck so she has to get out of there She's going down the stairs and she sees his girlfriend come up the elevator and she's hiding She's like, oh fuck. Yeah, she doesn't anything. Well, you have said anything me like, hey, don't go in there You're gonna get freaked out. No, because at this point people aren't gonna start blaming me for the murder Which I always like in scary movies Like samara's dad Electrocated himself. You were there you talked to the doctor on island And like nobody's putting this shit together like you're it's following you Well, I just foul play like yeah, it's not a coincidence He dies and you're on the island asking about his daughter and shit. You know what I mean? Yeah, and then like this It's not a coincidence. It's like Exactly But all scary movies always do that hilarious. Yeah She gets back home and eight is just fucking minding his business sitting on the couch watching like Or coloring or something and she freaks out of name. She's like go to your room and this poor kid Okay Freaked out that look at his face I had to rewind it He just they gave him like the makeup that they did on him. He looks pale and has the biggest dark circle Right, he just looks a little decayed So he runs to a private sleep weird and Ritual so if I can piss She grabs the tape. She doesn't understand why he didn't kill her, but it did kill Noah And she's on the ground, isn't she? Yeah, she burns the tape And she remembers well, she looks and underneath the chair is a copy and says copy on the tape She's like, oh shit. This is why the I did this is the thing I did different from everybody else Yeah, so now she gets the idea. I'm going to take aid into the place where I made this copy I'm going to make him make this copy Yeah, so she takes aid in to her work and has him pushing the tape and stores making a tape and they're both sitting there watching it and Even aid and he's like it's going to keep killing anyone stop and she's like it's going to be okay He's like what's gonna What's gonna happen to the person that we show it to? And she doesn't say anything. Does he say what's gonna happen to the person we show it to? Yeah, or is it what's gonna happen to the person that sees this? No, that would that's the direct quote What's the person what's gonna happen? What about the person that we show it to what happens to them? Okay? That's the direct quote. Yes, sir. Okay. Just making sure got it good. Yeah Because I like to think they make the copy and they just got to set it somewhere They're not physically showing the person because that never happened to them so don't argue with me with it because then They stumbled upon it investigation, but it sounds like the kids stumbled upon it So I think what's gonna happen is they just randomly put it somewhere and let Someone watch it. They made the copy so it's out of their hands at that point So now that copy is on the world. That's the problem. Now. It's gonna duplicate duplicate with people figured out but That I think is what happens. I don't think they're physically saying hey, man Steven go check this out. Look at this cool tape. I have I don't know that's a direct quote from this scene. I don't know. What do you think though? Are you on the thing that they're gonna give this tape to someone? I think that they have to put it somewhere where someone has to watch it Yeah, that necessarily be like turn it on for them But put it somewhere where they know some of them because this one got at the cabin who put it at the cabin Well, that's where the well was I know who put it at the cabin I don't know did samara start that shit No, there has to be others before them Like he made the tape because samara made the tape in her mind. I think yeah, and then she put it somewhere Maybe she's the one that keeps putting that in the cabin because that's where she's buried essentially Yeah, I like that concept like it just keeps coming back to that area. Yeah, she just keeps making this tape over and over again Dude, I like that. I just have a hard time thinking they're gonna give it to someone I don't think they're gonna give it to anybody. I don't know I think they're gonna set it and forget it Maybe it's like the fucking promotion for the movie. They said it on people's cars Yeah, I don't think they the someone has to necessarily watch it is what i'm saying I think they just had to make the copy and then it's out there in the world Well, one thing that she said that they remember and she kind of went back onto it when she remembered the copy was She remembers that There there was mentions that samara wants to be heard And she never sleeps so she wants to be heard is this or her way of being heard people watching the tape to know what happened to her But making copies Yeah, but people had to watch it. There's no point in making a copy Well, I know but that's the point of it is it makes more and more copies so her voice is being heard Everywhere and she's wants to inflict her pain on everybody Yeah, but as many people as possible. Yeah, but people have to watch the movie That's what i'm saying, but I don't think you have to watch it for that person to be saved Oh, I don't know. Yeah I don't know that's a concept that I go with listeners if you have a different concept. That's great too. I want to hear it I'm interested. I'm not saying i'm 100% accurate, but every time I watch this movie That's where my mind goes, but I could be entirely wrong. Yeah, you got to make a copy and then you're out of the clear But you did bring up that was uh resemblance to what you're like a movie was reminded right Maybe it was reminded of the it took serious liberties and influence from this movie, right? Uh, I said it reminded me of it follows. Yeah, but it follows reminds you of the ring because the ring came out first Yes, so the ring she has to make a copy of this movie And said send it out into the world for someone else to be exposed to it In order for her to not die Or the next person and then it follows they have to keep having sex with other people in order for them to not die But it always come back to them though when that person on it follows If you have sex with that person and that person doesn't have sex and dies it goes back to you Yeah, well, that's what was happening to it wasn't coming back But as long as you made a copy you were safe you're in the clear, but if people that didn't know You spread the good word of samara People that were unaware of the rule of making copies then they died Yeah, which they very vague. You don't find that out like rachel just stumbled upon that Yeah, she's like what did I do different and she was thinking about it, but think about all the people that don't Yeah, they're just fucking I die That's why that it follows doesn't really track Because eventually what if nobody has sex like and then everybody dies you eventually go to square one Like what happens there? I've done that. See you know the curves are just ones 100% of celibacy what which Accurately Someone's always gonna have sex. I get it so it'll stay it might linger for a while It might linger for a while But it's gonna go away eventually because it's gonna because it kills every host it has, you know what I mean? So eventually it's gonna wipe out enough people True I don't know. That's what doesn't track for me But the same thing could happen with the ring But the fascinating part about the ring is you got all these copies out there There you won't ever completely get rid of it Yeah, you know what I mean? There's always gonna be that that copy yeah to restart things To get it going again. Does that make sense? Yeah Is that the end of the movie? That's the end of the movie She doesn't say yeah your name. That's it now So that being said With the thorough conversation as you guys' feelings Her opinions change about this movie. Oh, it's not it has it. Mm-hmm Do you want to know what kind of ghost somewhere it was or no what? It's a mythological unreal. It's a japanese ghost that manifests After dying in the grape of a powerful rage And returns as a very pale and physical ghost to seek vengeance of the living Yeah, and like I was mentioning samaras her powers her psychic abilities are known as nensha Which is a form of a spirit photography That enables someone to burn images from their mind on 20 solid surfaces Just by thinking about him So this is what kind of uses explanation like I mentioned about her parents Having nightmares and visions because samara was like putting those images And to them right also, you know with the videotape making them making copies of that And then I did find someone did have a bit of an explanation They're their version of of the ending explained But so you like this movie still? Yeah, after talking at length. Mm-hmm. Okay continue The Ending that someone had explained was again like we kind of come to the same conclusion the ritual was fair because she made a copy And Aiden and no, I watched the copy that she made not because she saved samara that had nothing to do with her being saved Again samara just wanted to be heard Aiden made it sound like Now whole another level of fucking hell is about to be like being unleashed But it's the same concept. Yeah, I feel like we need to watch the second one I know i'm kind of curious in the third one because there's the ring two and rings rings I did that one came out in like 16 or something. Did you watch it? I did see it. It's got johnny clucky in it Is it good? I was entertained by it So yeah viana, how'd you feel about it after this conversation? Oh, I don't know. I still stand. I think it's pretty good pretty good Angelus, what would you rate this movie? I would rate this movie a At 3.5 you get 3.5. So i'm giving this movie a 4.1 Okay, go on. I for me this this had all the kind of thing For a slow burn movie, you know slow burn movies are my thing, right? Like I need pace. I need pretty good pacing and needs to kind of be bam But this one does it perfectly. I like the pacing of it Even the fucking tv was having a moment last night when we were watching even like Even the characters were pretty good. They were and they had more they had depth Story to them. I like it and then favorite kill. Yeah, what was your favorite kill? The horse That's your favorite kill the horses it's sad because like what do you get away from it? But I feel like that's the most like action packed it really had. They were only like what like Four on dead screens. My favorite was noa Just because she comes out that iconic scene of her getting out of the tv. I was fucking awesome I feel like the most Traumatic death for me with some more So that's another one being thrown in the well suffocated. Yeah So that one's pretty good. I just like noa because as the iconic scene a whole takeaway of the ring, right? Yeah Her crawling out of the tv at chron all the well and eventually out of the tv. I thought that was pretty cool Vienna, what would you rate this? I'd tell like a three and three and a half three and a half nice. Why? It's just good. Okay. What about you angeles? Why why three and a half? Because I like it. It's good, but it's I don't know. It's not super duper scary Okay, so that's the deciding factor to make it closer to a five Is it has to scare me? Okay, but it has a good story. It has good mystery. I feel like if you watch this by yourself Get a little freaky This yeah, I think you get freaked out. I don't know No, no, no, I feel like at times like the story is good But it also kind of goes around in a circle like she started out of the cabin She goes to the island and she's back to the cabin. Yeah, that solves the mystery. Yeah A real Scooby-Doo I don't know like this one Like would give me nightmares give me a dream the girls creepy dude Psycho psycho So yeah, do we want to go to the reviews? We got a Vienna's review corner Yeah, so overall this movie on letterbox had a 3.3 like average Yeah reviews Someone gave it four stars in our heart and said the story of a woman who only has seven days to analyze the meaning Of an avant guard experimental art film. Just take a cinema studies class girl Exactly Someone gave it three stars and said all i'm saying is if this bitch want to storm out of my fucking Samsung smart tv and ruin it She got to buy me a new one. No Someone gave it four stars and said why is so much of this movie about horses You're just a part of the theme, man. I know Why they're complaining they're all hung up on it So i'm giving it four stars and said a movie made to frighten a generation that left their kids in front of the tv to entertain them That is true Someone gave it two and a half stars and said I like how they turned it into a pyramid scheme at the end What do you mean? Oh, yeah, yeah Someone gave it three stars and said so this is where all the sheriff You don't want to die tonight facebook post come from oh my job Someone gave it three stars and said why do I feel like this is just a week in the life of a david lunch fan Actually, I can see that yeah Someone gave it four stars and said typical horse girl Someone gave it three and a half stars and said I would be some mars most frustrating victim Because I always have my phone on vibrate my go Someone gave it four stars and said somewhere in an alternate timeline this movie's title was reserved for a crappy early 2000s rom-com about a proposal man Someone gave it three stars and said when she gets out of the well after like 7347 years and her hair is perfect Would you say it's perfect? It's pretty much pretty nice. Really? Yeah, dang. Oh my god Someone gave it half a star and said why is this considered a horror classic at fucking sucked? Whoa, I need I need to demand a more explanation That's all the explanation they gave that's fucking nuts Someone gave it four stars and said I need to know what shampoo and conditioner samara uses I honestly wasn't even thinking about that That's like that's your focus. It's her hair. Mm-hmm Yeah, look at it Yeah, it's pretty sleek Someone gave it three stars and said just don't watch the fucking tape I mean, yeah, but I know I would watch you would watch the tape wouldn't you I would I'm like, yeah, I'll fucking watch it. I ain't scared. I know you I'd be dead in seven days. Look because I'm lazy. There ain't no way I'm doing the investigation Fuck Someone gave it three stars and said the tape is just this tape is just the type of ads you get When you try to watch a film illegally on one two three movie pirated shit So we gave it three stars and said me watching experimental short films be like My god Someone gave it two and a half stars and said watch this on an iphone 15 pro max Go ahead and try to call your fat ass through this film Damn Someone gave it two and a half stars and said corny ending to be honest would have been better If it ended about 30 minutes before still a classic concept You know, I actually could see that if it ended 30 minutes before that I'd be I'd be just as satisfied, but I like the ending of her crawling out of the screen I mean, dude, that's iconic. I don't care what anyway says Someone gave it two and a half stars and said is that it? Mm-hmm Someone gave it one and a half stars and said some good parts, but mostly just long and boring Boring ringu is better. Yeah Someone gave it and I'm not saying either way You know, I think there's good takeaways like you said angel's earlier 50% of it's different, right? Yeah, so I think they're both kind of their own thing But same origins, but kind of their own thing. Yeah Sorry, someone gave it one star and said shit ending, but even worse was that little freak. Fuck that kid. Wow Which care are they talking about? Dicks jettadiah That was all that jettadiah. He does. Yeah, that's it. Awesome. Thank you. Those are good ones So we're running a little bit long. Yeah, start wrapping it up One more question. What movie are we watching next week? Dude, we have a good one. We have a classic Many of you will remember it from its VHS cover at the rental store. I know I sure do. It's a maniac 1980s little thing. Yeah maniac So that'll be nice To round out the movie just to finish that. Did you do the reviews like critics? Yeah, IMDB 7.1 out of 10 rotten tomato 71% Metacritic 57% and Google users 73% So well favored It falls along the lines of you guys the 3.5 I'm just a little more happy on it or high on it, but you know what I used to not be when I was younger I think as I got older It had more like watching it now had more effect on it on me than it did previously. Does that make sense? Yeah, like a lot of it went over my head the first time I watched it because I was young I was 13 But now at 35. I'm like oh shit. So this hits a little bit harder. I'm like damn. This is pretty good Emotional family drama exactly before I'm like, yeah, fuck the kid. Yeah Should have drowned in her sooner I'm kidding That's cool Now we have some pretty big news. This is uh angels is baby And we have a giveaway that's wrapping up tonight folks come midnight. It's gonna be wrapped up What is it?
