- Hey everybody, welcome back to Fuzzy Bracatology, the podcast that believes in strong drinks, strong opinions and chronic champions. And we are here tonight for the second episode in the best treehouse of horror. Got it better for your mic right there, horror. Bracat, and we have got our five panelists here. Let's go ahead, let's beat them first up. Living down in St. Petersburg, Florida and living large. We'll leave it in my friend. How you doing, what's drinking? - Is that a fat joke? I'm doing great. - I've never seen you, sir, from the neck down, so no idea. (laughing) - No, I'm having a good night. I'm happy to be here tonight. Last night, my air conditioning handler decided to freak out and start smoking. So we sucked up my in-laws house. So I'm happy to be back in my own house tonight. Yeah, so just lucky I'm here. Tonight, I'm keeping a theme so far for this podcast. I'm doing another green bench beer, green bench burns at the St. P. Florida, really one of our top breweries in the city. I'm drinking one of their all-time favorites. It's called Turbid 7, it's a hazy IPA. It's really great, really crushable. It's only six and a half percent for a hazy, which is a little low, but, you know, we got a few podcasts to record tonight. Very good, as always. - I'll take that, I'll take that. Let's head on out to Reno, Nevada. Sarah Bell's my friend. How you doing? What are you sipping on? - Hi, Chris. I also am very excited to be here tonight. So I very rarely drink soda, but when I do, it's root beer, which makes a lot of people mad, actually. You'd be surprised, like, I hear about it a lot, but I've got myself a dad's old-fashioned root beer to get them started. - Nice. Excellent. - Final, stop texting it, jeez. - Jeez. - People get so pissed, like, they ain't root beer, I don't get it. - You know who does hate root beer? Chris Brewer, Chris Brewer hates root beer. Chris, my friend. How you doing? What are you drinking? - Oh my God, I do hate root beer. No, I don't hate root beer. I love root beer. That's, actually, that's my favorite kind of beer, but I'm doing all right. Tonight, I went back to the American IPA, Devil's Paint Box, brewed locally here at Tangled Roots, where every Wednesday you can come down to attempt to defeat my trivia team live. And spoiler alert, it's very easy to do so. - Oh, I love it, I love it. Next up, Huntsville, Alabama, Mike, my friend. How you doing, what you drinking? - Chris, I'm doing well, Sarah. I just wanted to say that I had my first soda in a long time this weekend, and my choice was also root beer, because I ordered a meal and it came with a soda, so I said, "Okay, I'll get a root beer, that's fine." So I am right there with you, and as we'll post in the chat, fuck the haters, there's the explicit tag. - Yeah. (laughs) - As for what I'm, that's right. As for what I am drinking, I'm also keeping with the theme here, I brought another pumpkin beer. This is the caramel pumpkin from Southern Tier Brewing. I had never had this or seen it before a couple of weeks ago, but found a nice four pack in my local establishment. So I decided to pick a few up. And this is a very good beer, if you like caramel, and/or if you like pumpkin, I think it works either way. It's not quite as good as their standard pumpkin, and certainly not as good as the warlock, but it will certainly do in a pinch. And I just said certainly a lot, I think, but anyway. - So eatingly. - Well, last, but certainly not least. (laughs) - Well played. - And my friend St. Petersburg, Florida local trivia host. How you doing? What are you drinking? - Oh, hi, hi. I'm doing okay. I'm hoping to recover from the debacle of the last episode with Snarky and Snorky. (laughs) I really need to gain everybody's favor back in my corner. And since I didn't originally had a cam pop, I'm gonna come in with the local brewery that I do host trivia at. It's called The Sent Craft Brewing. And they have a Berliner that has a vanilla and pineapple in it that tastes like a specific ice cream at a local theme park, but I don't wanna say it because I might get sued. So there's that little, that it's delicious. It tastes like candy. It's actually quite dangerous. - Tell them the name of the beer. That's a good hint. - Annual pass holder is the name of the beer. - Oh, there you go. (laughs) - That's my wife's favorite treat to go at that particular location. So, and that label looks very much like it. So I'll have to tell her that that exists. - It's delicious. - I'll mail you something if you don't want it. - I might have to get down there. You can't mail alcohol to Alabama. - I mean, legally I can't. (laughs) I'm trying to give you a possible tonight ability. You're just gonna fuck you Chris. - Fuck the government. - For being the don't tread on me state, it does seem to be a very weird law to be on the books, but anyway. - I mean, it's all the country. It's not just Alabama. (laughs) - All right, well it's my turn. And I don't consider myself an influencer, but I had to do it. I'm not the only one to do this, obviously, but the Coke zero sugar Oreo flavor. (laughs) - Barf. - I have to try. Now here's the kicker, here's the kicker. Depending on if I like it or not, I will be mixing it with a bourbon. - Of course. - If I like it, I have got myself a bottle here of four-grain bourbon. This is out of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. It's a really good mixing bourbon. If I don't like it, I am embracing the hate. I've got a bottle of Jepsen's bourbon. (laughs) - He's gonna hate drinks. - He's gonna hate drinks. (laughs) - I'm not going anywhere. - He doesn't have Oreo chunks in it, I'm sure. - What sucks is now I'm rooting for you to not like it, and that just makes me feel like a bad joke. Oreo-flavored Coke, it can't be good. - I feel like it could be good with vanilla ice cream, like a float. - I have some more, I'll try that tomorrow. I'll have to go get some vanilla ice cream. - Okay, it's a good idea. - Let me know. - Let's see. It's a lot ahead on that, but all right. - Hell yeah, brother. - Giggity. - Team root beer disapproves. - That does not smell great. (laughs) - Hello, Jepsen. (laughs) - I don't know how to feel about that. (laughs) - I'm sitting here trying to read your face and it's a fairly neutral expression. - It tastes flat. - I'm gonna try and cut down the carb, maybe I can keep some more carbonation in the glass. But I think this is gonna go to Jepsen's. (laughs) - Shocker. - Yeah, with carbonation, it actually makes it worse. (laughs) - Let's pour Jepsen's doo-doo-doo-doo. - Jepsen's, my glass, a healthy pour. - A healthy pour. - Yes. (laughs) - Cheers, y'all. - Cheers, cheers. (coughs) - I feel bad. You didn't lose a bet. You chose this. (laughs) - All right. (laughs) - I have a surprise for next episode two. We'll see you then. But let's jump right into this. We are starting with our first pick of the episode. Our first pick features. The play-in game winner. Treehouse of horror number 29, which features intrusion of the potty switchers. Multiplyce, I am always gonna fuck this up. I don't know why I can't say this word. - It's okay. - Multiplyce-Lisa T. - Multiplyce-Lisa T, there you go. - Multiplyce-Lisa T. - Here's your pizza and geriatric park, taking on the overall one seed from this portion of the bracket. Treehouse of horror is number four, featuring the wraparounds, the devil and Homer Simpson, and terror at five and a half feet. Our first pick goes to Will. - All right. I'm not gonna talk about things that aren't episode four much because they mostly suck in regards to this conversation. As I said, if you wanna hear us talk it out, it's in the Patreon feed. Subscribe, check that out. I voted for 29 'cause it was the Jurassic Park, but it was my de redeeming quality. Cool facts about number four. It is the final episode that Conan O'Brien wrote. And it's the last Halloween special that uses segments to introduce like in between segments. So just some kind of cool old school stuff. Obviously, they stopped that pretty early on, but it was, it's cool to go back and watch it. I love the intro to it. You had that classic like couch gag, but it was like all done in Halloween like style, which a lot of the intros for Treehouse of horror while great don't do that. So I need to see and I'm picking four. I'll talk some more about it later. - Well, Forrest got its first vote, Sarah. - I also chose episode 29 as a playing game because of geriatric park as well, but I also feel like this is where it's going to die. I'm going episode four. And I think we should be talking about it for a little bit. - Sarah's hoping for some new hope with episode four. Next bit goes to Chris. - Yeah, I don't think I voted for 29, but I honestly can't remember, but it doesn't matter. There's no suspense here. Episode four is going through. So that's where my vote goes. - Short, sweet and to the point, kind of like Mike Maat. - Yeah, well, as much as I would love to make Chris have to pronounce multiplicity more. A, I no longer have that choice 'cause four is already moving on and B, four is clearly the superior choice. The only reason 29 is in this conversation at all was because it was going up against 22, which is even worse, but there's really nothing to recommend 29. All three segments of four as well as the wrapper parts around it, around each segment with where Bart is going through the museum and pointing out using all the paintings to inspire the shows. It's a really cool framing device, if you will, for that episode. Even that, I would rather watch than anything in 29. Four gets my vote. - And we have a sweep. - Oh, yeah, we definitely have a sweep. Again, I wasn't too worried that you were going to have to try and pronounce multi-plicity, 'cause I can't even do it. Although the voice acting in that episode overall really got, like they had a good time with that episode, but I said it was forgettable the first time. I'll continue to say it was forgettable, especially if it is up against episode four. And Will, I don't know if you saw me freaking out and raising my fists in the air. You took my buzzer beater that I was saving because this is indeed Conan O'Brien's last written episode. And that was my exciting tidbit for why absolutely four should go on, hands down. - Well, four is moving on, and Will still has his buzzer beater remaining because he took his shirt off. So that's always appreciated here. We are moving on, it is our five seed Treehouse of Horror number 23, which features the greatest story ever hold, a normal activity in Barton Homer's excellent adventure, taking on Treehouse of Horror number 14, Reaper Madness, excellent title. Frankenstein and stop the world I want to goof off. Sarah, we're starting with you. - I'm not quite sure how people are going to react to this. So episode 14, there wasn't much that I didn't really get into it, the whole stopping time playing around thing. I did kind of love "Older Bart." That was really the only memorable part of that episode. I actually really like episode 23 with the black hole, human nature, even though you're not supposed to do, feed it. I mean, the whole community lined up to throw stuff into it just to make it worse, right? And then my actual, the paranormal or unnormal activity, my favorite part of that was at the end when they were talking about home, we're doing it three way. And he was like, so me, like guy, girl, demon, they're like, no, demon, demon, you. That was the best part. I still remember that, it still makes me laugh. For that only, I would vote for episode 23, other parts to it, but yeah, episode 23. - 23 has got its first vote, Chris. - Yeah, Sarah hit it on the head, I think that was the best part of episode 23 as well. I do kind of disagree, I kind of liked 14. I liked Frank being able to get a whole little segment on his own, I've always loved him and kind of gave him a time to shine there. And then Homer is the Grim Reaper, I don't know, I just thought that was hilarious. So for that, I'm gonna put 14 through. - It's tied up one to one, Mike. - See, to me, if you take the first segment of 14 and pair it with the last two segments in 23, that would be a two seed, like, 'cause I think that Reaper Madness in 14 is far and away the best segment in that one. It's so much fun watching Homer. First of all, you see the world without death, which is its own funny thing where the mobster keeps getting shot, and they just can't kill him. And then, of course, just seeing how bad Homer is and actually being death, because of course he is, is hilarious. But then, whereas with the greatest story ever hold, I kind of thought that was somewhat meh in 23, but I thought the final two segments in 23 were both actually really fun. Sarah mentioned what I would say and thought too about the ending with the three way was really funny, but overall I felt like that there was a certain creepiness factor to a normal activity that is often missing in some of the Simpsons, how Treehouse of Horror that go more for the straight humor that I enjoyed. And then I just enjoyed the fun with time travel in the final segment, especially when one of the things I loved was when they were like Richard Dreyfus playing Indiana Jones and some of the alternate history type of stuff that they did. It was entertaining to me, so, because it wins out two segments to one, I'm gonna give 23 my votes. 23 has got a second vote, next pick goes to Anne. - This one's quite difficult for me because I think both episodes are very equal in overall standing. All of them pretty much I rated like a six, honestly, like down the board, so it was hard for me to pick between the two episodes. With episode 23, I do really enjoy the magic crap hole waist removal being the name that Homer makes to throw trash in the other dimension. And Artie Ziff, for me, I find him a fantastic character. It was exciting to have him come back and hear that old critic voice that I love so much. Versus episode 14, where again, agree with everybody that Homer being deaf is just the very central Homer treehouse of horror episodes tend to be better. Ones that are just like led by Homer doing stupid Homer things. I think Jerry Lewis got screwed on the second episode. I think he could have had a way better part in the Simpsons in general, and I feel bad for him on that one 'cause it's easily, it's the middle, forgettable one. And then I do enjoy the stopwatch one. It's sweet, especially Millhouse, thinking up really stupid things. Like we can get a head start on our homework. And then just the ending with Martin being pla, it's gold, I genuinely can't pick between these if I had to do anything. I think the Zoom joke pushes 23 over the edge. - Well, 23 is gonna move on, but I wanna hear from everybody, Will. - All right, I like this a lot for me because I would have picked 23 anyways, but now I get to talk, I can save my talk for 23 later and just talk about 14 real quick. One of the things, the reason I missed, or dislike 14 is because I'm a big family guy hater, I think it's a terrible fucking show. And generally the Simpsons does everything first, and they didn't do this first. They, Family Guy has almost an exact copy, or an episode where Peter is the reaper, same kind of thing, death dies, he has to take over, no one's dying. And the other thing too, and I could be wrong, I tried to look it up and from what I found, they used the same exact joke about Bart running like the wind, and they're like, "Mom, it's pronounced wind," and she's like, "I've only read it." All right, you know, I've only seen, I've only read the word before. So as a family guy hater, it makes me mad that the Simpsons kind of copied that. So I would have picked 23 anyways. - Well, 23 is moving on to the next round, and we are moving on. Chris, we're going over to you. The three seed, Treehouse of Horror number 34, which features Wild Bart can't be token, eight, and Lout, Loot, Lout break? - Lout. - I figured it out. - Lout. It is taking on Treehouse of Horror number 25, with School as Hell, a clockwork yellow, and the others. - Okay, so to be totally honest with everybody here, I only seen 34 once. And when going back and rewatching all of these, that one just fell out of my rotation. So I don't have a lot to say on that one, but it would have to be pretty fucking good to be 25 for me. Mo in the clockwork orange roll is like, I don't know. It's one of my favorite things out of all of these. So 25 gets my vote. - 25 has its first vote, Mike. Oh, big ass mupug right there on your shoulder, dude. - Got 'em. - Yeah, that mute bug would be my four-year-old that's currently knocking at my door and screaming that she doesn't want Mommy. (laughs) No, I'm gonna completely agree with Chris here, though. 34, I thought that the seven parody with Side Show Bob was great. The other two were kind of, they were okay, but sort of forgettable to me. Whereas I think 25 is actually a little under-seeded. I love, I really actually enjoy all three of these segments. The school-as-hell segment where, of course, Bart is basically an instant torture expert once he gets to hell and suddenly becomes a good student. That's a hilarious concept that I think they do really well. The clockwork yellow Stanley Kubrick litany of references is just absolutely fantastic. It's like the guy who's like, I don't even know what movie this is a reference to. Like, all of it's so funny. They've poured so many great references in that one and the other's parody where they're haunted by the Tracy Omen show versions of themselves. It's clever and it's really fun. So overall, I am also gonna go with 25 on this one. - 25's got another vote. Let's bring it over to Ann. - I think Mike looked at my notes and he read what I wrote. So I'm gonna just piggyback off of Mike and agree. Like, I hands down any references to the Cape Fear episode of The Simpsons are going to get me points, but that is the only segment that carried 34 from last year. So 25 definitely moving forward. - 25 definitely is moving forward, but I want to hear from everybody that includes? - Well, it's almost a shame because honestly, a lot of newer Simpsons, again, is very commonly, you know, a lot of new Simpsons isn't good. I really, to me, it's like the early to almost all the 20s, season's 20s, terrible. Newer stuff's hit, hit or miss, but the newer She Have the Horrors are actually pretty good. I did like Gronk not really being able to speak. He's just a big idiot, you know, probably CTE. I loved, I mean, I loved the Bob bit, him having to re-sing the HMS Pinafore. It was just fantastic. I liked the Rube Goldberg death machine. Bob's calling out shrubs. Yeah, I really, really did enjoy 34 and I probably would have voted for it, but it's not moving on. So I will save my chat about 25 for next time. - No, 25 is moving on, but I want to hear from Sarah. - I feel like I was actually the, well, maybe will, to vote for episode 34. I really liked it. When Marge takes the cats and done checks the cats to kill the other cats. No pain against animals, but that was hilarious. And yes, the whole sideshow Bob revenge was super cool with Nelson being the bodyguard. And then she looked back at the video. I thought it was great. I actually really liked episode 34. So I'll give it a pity vote. It would have been my regular vote. I like even drew a thumbs up sign versus a thumbs downside for 25. So it's awkward, but yeah, 34. - Hey, Chris real quick. I wanted my one throwaway line about 34. I wanted to say it 'cause I said the real horror here is NFTs 'cause that episode already felt dated, which is definitely the one that definitely is not good for it. Like we're watching it a year later. I'm like, oh, this is stupid. - Well, episode 34 put up a fight, but it is not moving on. 25 moves on to the main game. We're moving on to our three, sorry, our two versus seven matchup, the two seed. Treehouse of horrors number six, which features attack of the 50 foot eyesore nightmare on evergreen terrace and Homer three. That is gonna be taking on treehouse of horror number 27, 27 features, dry hard, BFF, RIP and mofinger. Mike, we're kicking this one off to you. - Just making sure I wasn't muted that time. Honestly, this, I think that 27 got a little, a little hosed by its seeding. I think that it's, I think that it is probably deserving of slightly more than a seven seed. There's some good stuff in there. I think that mofinger to me is the winner out of those three. I think it's a solid bond parody. And then I really enjoyed the song at the very end about all the shows that were bad while the Simpsons has gone on like that. That's been done in the bond style. It was really good stuff. The other ones are not particularly memorable, but in a way that's a good thing because once you get down into this level of seeding in treehouse of horror, a lot of segments are memorable because of how bad they are. And these are just sort of like, yeah, those were there. I wouldn't necessarily not watch them again, but I just don't, they just don't stick out very well. But six to me is another one of those. It's part of that classic run. I, there's so many little parts of those shows that I still remember very fondly. Like the whole nightmare on evergreen terrace thing, I mean, you know, the whole lousy, smart weather thing. And of course, do not touch Willy. Good advice. You get it nice. That's such a great joke. And the animation of the, that in the Homer cubed segment is was really kind of cutting edge for its time, especially since you see how ridiculously weird Homer looks in the real world at the end. So at six is the winner here, 27 maybe, maybe probably deserved a little better, but I think six definitely wins here. Anne, go to you. - 27, and honestly, I'll give a little background on kind of the episodes for me that raised to the top. Like, if I feel like I learned something and I had to, or I looked up something afterwards because the Simpsons made me so interested in the topic material, if they do a parody of something, but they do it really well. And I tend to prefer if they do a parody of horror for Treehouse and not a parody of regular. So with episode 27 being two parodies of things I don't consider horror. I don't really consider Hunger Games horror. I don't really consider Kingsman or James Bond horror. They do it well. It's fun, but I just wouldn't, I don't really want to see it. I don't really want to see it in Treehouse. And that's me just being a picky little bitch. - That's a great point. - I do appreciate Grimey coming back and talking shit. I always love Grimey talking shit at any point that he can get any sort of screen time 'cause it never really happens. I enjoyed Sarah Silverman's little whining best friend. Like that was a pretty decent voice acting, but in comparison to six, which is like Lardlag taken names and Homer. Oh, he came to life. Good for him, just closing the door on Lardlab. And even with Willy kind of having the like a horror trope being him especially like I didn't mind it at all 'cause like you said, with Nightmare on Evergreen Terrorist when he, I'm correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure this is the one because I know there's like more than one reference of Nightmare. But like this is the one where he, they do the series of school budget cuts and Willy's like in the basement and they're like, we're gonna turn up the heat. Yeah. And then they cut the butt on the doorknob and he can't get out. And then he just sits in the classroom burning while no house's dad is like, I don't know what my kid does to spaghetti meals, you know? Like that. I mean, it's gonna be hard pressed for some segments to ever be that just like two minute series. It is, it is just absolutely beautiful. So I am going to vote for six. Six has another vote, Will. Yeah. I don't think this is a fair fight. I think they did a really poor job using the IPs they had in 27. And I've said it on the last episode kind of what Anne was saying, like, I want Halloween parodies. I don't give a, like we need to make a tree house of non-horror or something and they can do all the dumb shit they want with all the other IPs. But to me, it doesn't belong a tree house of horror. I love the Simpsons always kind of making fun of when episodes come out. And they're always talking about like the Halloween episode getting released after Halloween and like we got our Christmas tree up already, dumb shit like that. That always makes me laugh. So I guess that was kind of the redeeming quality. Six is great. I mean, the large lad thing is homeward, homeward down ahead is just to me, it's so iconic, it's such a memorable character. And I mean, it's action figures and everything. Like it really stands out to me. So I'm gonna go with six as well. Six has got a three-nell lead, it's moving on, but I do wanna hear from Sarah. - Yeah, so my only notes for 27 is what Anne said. It was so good to see Frank Grimes. It was like my only notes for them. Obviously at episode six, I'm voting for six, it's moving on. Does, when the pet boys with their giant heads, when they cut their life, does that not kill everyone else? It's not every single damn type. I love that one. I do love episode six for every reason that everyone's already talked about. So six for me. - Six has got a four-nell lead, Chris, do we have a sweep? - Oh yeah, we got a sweep and it all started on the 13th hour of the 13th day of the 13th month. Yeah, yeah, episode six going through. - Episode six is moving on and so are we, we are down to the last quadrant of the bracket, the lower right-hand corner. The one seed, Treehouse of Horror, episode seven, which features the thing and I, the Genesis tub and Citizen Kang taking on the eight seed, Treehouse of Horror 16, which features bi-partificial intelligence, survival of the fattest, and I've grown a costume on your face. And we're gonna start this one with you. So I'll start with the lesser one 'cause I'm gonna say episode 16 in my opinion fall short here a little bit. I appreciate Bart going into Acoma and being replaced by a much better version of himself. Like, I mean, it's like, and I mean, the plots of all three, like survival of the fattest being the most dangerous game. And I'll throw back to my nerdy comment of like, this is how I found out what the most dangerous game was about. I wanted the source material and then, you know, became my parents were so proud that I learned things in school and definitely learned everything from the Simpsons. (laughing) It's a running gag in my house. I've absolutely learned everything from the Simpsons. And just the amount of different costumes they could come up with, like it's similar to some other horror episodes of where they just put so many characters into the episode and give them so many different iterations that are very clever. The costume one is still fun. However, however, Citizen Kang, the topical point in time captured election that still is 100% relevant today. I don't know if I can put, I mean, all three of these are amazing, but I'm just gonna use this time to talk about Citizen Kane as being hands down. The main reason why I will be picking seven to move on. - Episode seven, it's got its first vote, Will. - I agree with a lot of what Ann said. I'm a big, big baseball fan, so I did love the ripping of baseball from the beginning of '16, wanting to speed up the boring game. And then all the players go too fast and create like this death vortex. I thought that was pretty funny. I do honestly like a lot of bits about '16. I think the seating was hard on it. I mean, I don't know. I have a sweet spot for a lot of the middle teen episodes, seasons that I think a lot of people will kind of trash, but I think there was a lot of good about it. Lisa saying, "Mom, do you remember how you told us "you wish we'd never grow up?" Like, "Good way to tell your mom your brother's dead, you know?" But I definitely get why it falls short. Not what, you know, most dangerous game. I mean, that's probably one of the most overdone IPs on the planet. So, you know, it is what it is. I will, I mean, as a twin myself, I've always, not a Siamese twin, but as a twin, I always loved the Bart Hugo storyline. I always thought that was a lot of fun and like, honestly, scary as a kid. I'm like, "What if that happened to us?" You know, like, do we have a triplet living in the attic? But I will declare my winner by saying, "Don't blame me, I voted for co-dose." Seven is going forth. - Well, seven's got another vote. Next pick goes to Sarah. - Seven is gonna move forward. - I don't know, maybe it's just me. I have a hard time finding something that's coming close to episode seven from 16. It's just not. So yeah, my vote's for seven, of course. That's, I don't know. I wanna play my cards too early, episode seven. - Chris, give me your opinion. - Yeah, honestly, I would not have voted for seven. So guys, if you need your buzzer beaters later for me, just spoiler, I just don't like, I don't like the aliens. What are their names? Craig? - Hey, you got a total. - I know. - I'm sorry. - I know, I know. I just, you know, to get them like to pop up and do their little one-liners, that's fine. It's like the guys in the Muppet up in the balcony. - Tatlin Waldorf is getting offended right now. - Careful what you say. - I mean, everybody's gonna get offended at some point here. So yeah, no, I mean, it's going through. So, I mean, but I will give my vote to 16. - 16's got its first vote. Mike, take us home. - Well, Chris, once upon a time I did observe that very often on boozy, bracketology, our wrongness is part of our charm. So you're definitely bringing the charm here tonight. (laughs) - 16, yeah, I kind of, I grew with a little bit. There's a couple of funny bits. I just think seven is the far superior episode. All three segments are good. They're all memorable and they're all in one way or another still knocking around in the back of my head to this day. So yeah, seven is gonna get my vote and I will talk much more about it later. - Well, seven is moving on to the speed 16. And so are we. Will, you're gonna kick off this next one. We have got the four seed treehouse of horror number 20, which features dial M for murder or press pound to return to the main menu. Don't have a cow mankind and there's no business like Mo business taking on the five seed treehouse of horror number 12, which features hex in the city, house of wax and whiz kids. All right, I think this is a fairly like even fight. It's gonna be a tough to this. I don't even think I know my decision yet. I like 20 starting with the classic movie monsters having like shitty costumes. It's funny bit to me. I feel like that was kind of like done in monster squad too, like pretty similar. The style with the old school like Hitchcock films, I think was well executed, but I haven't seen a lot of those. So it doesn't like mean a lot to me. 28 days later style zombies are a lot of fun. I love grandpa getting left outside, very Simpsons, very good Simpsons, like kind of like a running gag. And I brought it up to off chat before off pod before, but finding out that Helen Lovejoy is Lisa's godmother is like mind blowing and like using, I'm just stunned. 12 was really like, I really liked the intro on 12. We have probably one of the best guest stars on 12 with Pierce Brosnan. There's some really good bits. Bart's, is it Bart's head turning into a Zeppelin? And like they call him head Zeppelin. - Zeppelin. - I really enjoyed that. I think I just sold myself on 12 with the whole godmother thing. I'm just like, what the fuck, you know? So yeah, 12 got it's first vote, Sarah. - 12 does crack me up with the intro with burnt hanging the little tiny bat. And then him thinking that's what's scaring everyone. It's amazing. So this was actually probably the hardest decision for me. We're these two. Episode 12, you have the Gypsy with that little crazy horny leprechaun. And I love him and he just so happy. He just makes me smile. Same thing with Pierce Brosnan. But I never, so this is where I've never seen Harry Potter or read Harry Potter or so the last one I know. I'm so, I know. I drink group air. Give me a bite. Yeah, that one didn't do anything for me. The crisscross number on episode 20, crisscross. You know, I say that like all of the time when there's the tainted hamburgers and Homer's talking and they're like, all right, did you have a tainted burger? It's like, no, a brain's a brain's just talking. And then Sweeney Todd. I mean, it was a hard one. I will say I love the leprechaun. I know he shows up in other episodes too, but I'm going to get my vote to 20. Yeah, 20. Sarah ties it up one to one. Go on to Chris. Yeah, that's funny. Sarah, I'm with you. I've never read or heard a word of Harry Potter. So what the fuck are you? Who are you people? (all laughing) I mean, I hear enough of, here's the thing. Harry Potter fans talk so fucking much about it. I feel like I don't have to watch or read it. So you guys are doing it for me. Again, but no offense like what you like. But so on 12, I really love the first two segments. The third one does nothing for me. On 20, I love both segments. Last one does nothing for me. So flip a coin. No, I mean, the hex in the city, just with Bart getting his stretchy ass neck and trying to kill himself in his bowl of cereal 'cause he was tired of it. I mean, I'm put in 12. My vote goes 12. 12's got a second vote. Mike. Well, this is about to get interesting, I think. 'Cause I agree with what everybody said before me. This was a really tough match up here. And a lot of folks have said a lot of what I wanted to say. Everyone talked about Pierce Brosnan being brilliant in the House of Wax segment of 12. But I love the throw away Matthew Perry joke. That is one of the hardest I laughed at a Simpsons for Halloween during this period of the Simpsons ever. Could I be any more of a house? Like I just, I lost it for like the next minute. I was crying 'cause it was just so perfect. But ultimately the last segment, kind of other than the heads up one bit sort of falls a little flat for me. I do like the hex in the city, especially the leprechaun bit. I think 20 is overall a little stronger. I see Will's point about the weirdness of Helen Lovejoy being Lisa's godmother. But A, Treehouse of Horror is not canon. And B, it sets up one of the other funniest moments of any Treehouse of Horror from this era, which is a poo going, you can apologize in hell. And March going really cheerfully. I guess I could and then blown your away. Oh my gosh, that is just absolutely hysterical to me. And the Sweeney Todd, I enjoy the musical numbers, especially you could do worse thing. And to the tag at the very end where Homer's like, could you love a man whose half beer and March goes, I always have, I've got one 20 on this one. It's very close, these are of even quality, but I'm gonna go 20 and not just to set up the tie was going to anyway, but it also does make it interesting. Oh, it is two to two. It's all up to end. If you can't tell by the way, she has her head in her hands. I think she's a little perplexed. A little bit of the audience can see her head in her hands. If you could, you would see her head in her hands right now, but before we let her talk, does anybody other than Will wanna throw their buzzer beat or try and sway her one way or another? And I don't know you that well. So I'm hoping we're putting this in your more than capable hands. Oh, well, I have removed my head and I'm holding it sadly. (both laughing) This is really close. Everything said, Pierce Brosnan carries 12 for me. And then in a close second, thinner references for Hex in the city and just the leprechaun, I will mention the leprechaun every single time he comes up in an episode. (both laughing) The Twix gag where he throws Twix into the hole first and a whole bunch of rabbits, just run out and jump into the hole. That when Lisa turns into a horse and she can still talk, but when she stomps, yes, and Homer's like, see two means yes. Like that is a very close second to the, clearly I think the heavy hitter is the Pierce Brosnan house voice. It was just an all around, really, really good. Potter is, even as a fan, this episode was a bit of a throwaway for me. The best part of the episode was the weird frog thing that Bart makes that's like, please kill me. (both laughing) He just keeps popping and he's like, every minute I live is pure agony. However, one of the number one episodes that I quote is Chris Cross and asterisk. And ding-dong ditch means kill her, read a book. (both laughing) I will talk more about 20 because 20 will be moving on in this scenario. Strangers on Train is one of the greatest Hitchcock film and they do scene for scene in this. And it is just gorgeously done. So we'll talk more about 20 later, but my vote is for 20 with a good shout out to Pierce Brosnan as a sexy ass house. - The sexy ass head in Mars attacks as well. We're not gonna go there. We are moving on. It is time for our second to last matchup of the evening. Sarah, you're kicking us off. The three seed is the OG treehouse of horror number one, which features bad dream house. Hungry are the damned and the raven, taking on the six seed treehouse of horror number 17, which features married to the blob. You gotta know when to golem and the day the earth looks stupid. - So if you guys wanna talk about episode 17, you can. This one is never one that I even remembered. And I've seen these all. I had to go in and watch them like, "Oh yeah, that's the one with the giant's hand Jew." And I think it was a stretch. It's not even close for me, episode one. I don't even wanna talk about episode 17, but by all means, go ahead. I'm choosing episode one. - Phantom Menace has his first vote, Chris. - Yeah, it's not even close to me either. I mean, it's episode one. I do love married to the blob, but just the idea of Homer continuously eating until he's the size of the city. I mean, this is pretty great. And then the golem, obviously, having Andre the giant's Afro, to me is pretty damn hilarious too. But yeah, episode one, by far. - Episode one is up to Neil, Mike. - Yeah, again, again, this is not even close. 17, my favorite segment is actually the third one. I do think it's funny that they kind of parody the whole people believing the Orson Welles world, the world's broadcast. And then when there's an actual invasion, they don't believe it anymore. It's sort of like a play on the Boy U cried wolf, right? And it's always fun to see Kang and Kodos, but you know what else we get to see Kang and Kodos in? For the very first time is Hungary are the damned. The original is a classic. The original set the stage for everything that would come after it. The original is the reason that in my sixth grade class, when we were each assigned to memorize a poem and recite it before the class, I, of course, selected Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven. I can still do about the first verse and a half out of like the 20 something verses that are in there, but I'm not gonna bore anybody with that. Will's exhortations notwithstanding, I'm just gonna vote for one and move on. - That sounds like a patron exclusive. I've ever heard one. Now that we've let the zenials talk, let's move on to the true millennials, Anne. - Mike, I think you and I should hang out. - I mean, well, I'm not the only nerd, damn it. All right. - Oh, I know. I can out just for you, I'm sure. I can count all the nerds equally. - So episode 17, I think when it first came out, I significantly enjoyed it a little bit more than I do now. I personally don't think you gotta know when Tagalog has aged very well. A lot of the OG jokes in like what 20, when 2000, when this came out or whatever, but probably landed a little bit more less uncomfortably than they do now. But it is, I mean, Fran Drescher had her moment, good for her. And personally, for me, the War of the Worlds, but to hear Marisa Marsh, who also does brain on Pinky and the Brain, do Orson Welles and get his time to shine because he sounds just like him. I mean, I thought that was a fantastic segment, but the other two I can kind of give or take on, especially since, even though Dr. Phil gets eaten, like, I don't know, there's some reference. It's kind of like when Rosie O'Donnell's gonna pop up later, I'll be like, no, get her, get her away. I don't wanna see it. Whereas the new original number one, and hopefully I'm not stealing anybody's buzzer beaters, but fun fact about episode one is this is the only instance of a treehouse of horror where a guest voice is featured in all three segments. So R.I.P. to James Earl Jones, I'm gonna vote for episode one. - The originals are staining strong Will. - Number one. (laughing) - I like literally my notes. Like, I took notes on all these, you know, to prepare my notes for 17 or two sentences. I really don't like these IPs as treehouse of horror segments, maybe the blob. That's all I wrote. There was nothing redeeming for me. Yeah, number one. - Well, number one is gonna move on and we're moving on to our last pick of the episode. And Chris, you're kicking us off here. Is it going to be the two seed treehouse of horror number eight? That features the Ho Mega Man fly versus fly in the easy bait coven taking on the seven seed. Treehouse of horror number 13, which features sending the clones, the fright to creep and scare harms and the island of Dr. Hibbert. - Okay, so I have a feeling I know where this is going to go. So episode eight, honestly, my favorite part is the intro where the Fox sensor gets slaughtered as the ratings going up. And 13, I mean, the island of Dr. Hibbert is one of my favorite segments of all of them. I just, I love it. I love them getting turned into animals. I love Homer being a walrus at the end and choosing it because mating and rolling and filth and eating and repeating sounds better than everything else. I mean, it's seven over a two, but I'm voting for 13. - Well, today I learned that Homer Simpson and Justin Long have something in common. Did anybody get that reference? - I was waiting for the Tusk reference. - As soon as he said that. - Thank you Mike. - All right, next pick goes to Mike. - Yeah, I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time talking about 13. It, to me, I just thought most of the segments were kind of met. They're not terrible, they're not great. I thought sending the clones was fun enough, but at the end of the day, it just didn't go anywhere. And I kind of felt the same with the parody of the Island of Dr. Moreau. The middle ones is okay. It's just, honestly, it's a little too preachy for me. Eight has the Omega Man, which if for nothing else, it has the seat, it has comic book, I walk it down the street reading from the comic and all of a sudden the bomb, here comes the bomb and he goes, oh, I've wasted my life. Like that is such a great hilarious moment. And then at the very end, the fact that his family survived because the house is covered with layers up on layers of lead paint. Some of those bits are just really, really funny to me. The other two segments aren't quite as good, but I still really enjoy fly versus fly. Easybake coven, it's not the greatest, to be honest. I was a little surprised. I thought maybe eight was a little over seeded when I crunched all the data, but I am still going to vote for eight on this one. - Eight's got a vote. It's tied up one to one. The next pick here goes. And I know I like building suspense. (laughing) I didn't forget your name, I promise. (laughing) - I mean, the seating, I think, was pretty magical here. I was super interested to see how this will go because I think these are two episodes that are very much, you love them or you hate them. And there are course Simpsons fans that can sit there and be like, I hate the hammock gag. It's so stupid. And then there's the opposite other side of being like Homer making a bunch of clones of himself to do all the things he doesn't want to do, including like talk to his dad. And you know, like is freaking brilliant and hilarious and amazing. And on the other side of it, I think it's very similar to that like, the fly is a fantastic movie to parody. They didn't do it in any sense of shot by shot, but it's a really silly, absurd gag. Some people think it's really stupid to put a fly head on Bart's body. And everybody's like, this is fine versus like something. It's hilarious. And it's a really well done like, I'd be stupid not to do this. Like make myself a fly, you know? That transporter cost me 35 cents. So there's strong Omega man and the fly are strong. And I also, I personally, my name is Anne Putnam. And so anything that references the crucible just brings back trauma from my middle school years because that was the person that killed everybody. So the coven is like, I kind of forget about that one. And then similar to episode 13, I personally think sending the clones in the island of Dr. Hibbert are great. They're both fabulous. The frightened creep and scare harms is somewhat forgettable. So I am actually going to vote for 13 and hope I get to talk more about the island of Dr. Moreau spin off later, hopefully. - 13 is up two to one will. - All right, I said before the Fox sensor cracking on the other networks was a lot of fun for me 'cause usually it's the Simpsons ripping on Fox. And not that I care about Fox, but it was funny to see it go the other way with Fox ripping on the other networks. I think both episodes have some really good bits. The way that Homer uses the Matter Transporter, it's just like Pete Homer. Like, you know, just simple as chores, like if you can reach over here and you're reaching any other room, like it's like, who wouldn't do, I would do that. Please, can I have a Matter Transporter? I think the segments are pretty classic. 13, I like the intro of Bart dressing up as mod in the seance. Sorry, Flinders, but that was pretty good. - Mad returns. - Yeah, you soon. I didn't say this earlier, there was another episode. I don't think I got moved and voted on, but for those who don't know, early Simpsons season one, one of the classic Homer lines is like, "Let's go get some frosty chocolate milkshakes." And it gets brought up multiple times. So I love when the Simpsons bring that back up and then got brought back up in 13. I love the playground, you know, everyone hands in their guns and then they make a playground out of guns and go in on the slide and it's like shooting bullets. Sometimes guns are the answer is such a good quote from that. I talked about 13 a little bit more than eight and that's because I'm choosing eight to go on and I wanna talk more about it in the next episode. So we're gonna make this one fun for Sarah to break the tie. - It is two to two. It is down to Sarah Bales, the unpredictable, the wild card. I honestly, I've known her for over a decade. I have no idea where she's gonna go with this. That means I'm assuming guys she's reasonable and open to bribes. It's your last chance for a buzzer beer to this round. Anybody wanna use this? Chris, I see your hand up. - Yeah. - Go ahead. - Yeah, yes. I think I would. Just because I think once we get into the heat of things, people have their favorites. So Sarah, root beer, no Harry Potter. I get it, yeah, the hammock might be kind of a cheesy, get whatever, but how can you say more homers doesn't make an episode better? I mean, and the fright to creep and scare harms. Yes, it is kind of a throw away. However, gun violence. I mean, it's a very good topic to touch on. So I just wanted to throw those out there in case you were sway in one way or the other. You know, do the right thing. (laughing) - Sarah, the choice is yours. - You guys are gonna be so mad at me. - Two of them, yeah. - So mad at me. Never. - Look, it's gonna come down to one thing, and I'm sorry, I feel bad about this, but I don't really feel too bad about this. I actually love the movie multiplicity of Michael Keaton. I love that movie to pieces. I've seen it hundreds of times, great movie, but what is more than anything? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. - And fly versus fly, when Homer reaches through the transporter to the fridge and gets cat ear medicine. And then you hear, oh my God, that's good. (laughing) Guys, I'm going for that reason. Only I am moving on. My vote is for episode eight. And with that, episode eight is moving on to the sweet 16, which means the sweet 16 from this portion of the bracket will feature. Episode four against episode 23. Episode 25, going up against episode six. Episode seven against episode 20. And then the OG, episode one, taking on the two seed episode number eight. And that, along with all of the sweet 16 picks from the last episode will happen next week, right here on the boozy main feed. We hope you enjoyed the episode.
