Hey everybody welcome back to boozy bracketology the podcast that believes in strong drinks strong opinions and crowning champions and we are jumping head on into spooky season. It's October. We're talking some Simpsons tree house of four. Let's meet our panelists. I do like staying local when I can. So when I stay local, I go down to St. Petersburg, Florida. We'll evil in my friend. How you doing? What are you drinking? Hey Chris, I'm doing great. Happy to be talking Simpsons in any way that I can. We got some some good panelists on tonight who are also big fans. So I think that's going to be a good time. Chris is going to recognize us from a recording last night. I'm drinking a green binge brewing. Fespier logger. It's like a German celebration logger. It's fantastic. It's really good. It's a 5.8% not super strong. But for a logger, that's pretty decent. Take a drink here. Super Chris, a little hoppier than your normal logger. It's a good drink. Multi. Yep, that sounded good last night. Still sounds good tonight. You know what else sounds good playing trivia with and putting them down in St. Petersburg, Florida, and my friend. How you doing? What are you drinking? Oh, hoy, hoy. I'm doing wonderful. This is kicking off my spooky season. So I'm crumbulent. I'm in big end. I'm ready to go. I'm drinking an entire bottle of wine. I'm not kidding. Like there's no ASMR for this. I am I'm ready for some tree house. Half of this bottle is gone already. Oh, it's going to be a good night. We're going to we're going to pack up our plane and head up north. Chris Brewer, my friend, how are you doing? What are you drinking? I'm doing great, excited to be here and get some get some great Simpsons inside knowledge from these experts here. I'm actually usually a T. Totaler, but this is boozy. So I had to go out and get myself this little American IPA devil's paint box. It is made about five minutes drive from my house at a local brewery tangled roots from a hops farm that's about five minute walk from my house. So just so you guys are aware, this will be my first taste of beer in probably 25 years. Okay, let me push. We don't expect and no, no, no, no, no, no, I do that. I do that. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, let me make it clear. It is it is not a choice out of not being able to handle it. It's just a preference that I've last time I head beer. I didn't like it. So we're going to find out if I like it now. I love it. Yeah. And I couldn't get a pop. And of course, the alcohol by Valium. Anybody want to guess what it is for the devil's paint box? 6.2. Yeah, I was going to guess six to seven range, 6.66. Oh, of course. Oh, hell yeah. Oh, yeah, that's good. That's good. It's all over me, but it's good. All right. Ready to rock and roll. It took Brewer less time to like IPAs than me. Let's keep that in mind. All right. We're going to head on out West. Reno, Nevada, Sarah Bales, my friend. It's been too long. How you doing? And what are you drinking tonight? Hi, Chris. It has been too long. I'm super excited to see all of you Simpson's fans. I'm drinking tonight. I call it my kid juice. So I get the sun kissed fruit punch, little water pouch, but I mix it with unflavored sparkling water. So it's like bubbly, sun kissed fruit punch. And it's amazing. And I've got 40 ounces of that. So I'm ready to go to. So Sarah's going to pee in about five minutes. Yes. Last but not least, Mike, my friend. How are you doing? What are you drinking? Chris, I'm doing well also excited to be here. I went, I attempted to go thematically appropriate for these tree house or for discussions. So I got myself a pumpkin beer. In this case, it is the pumpkin sombrero from clown shoes brewing company. It is a Mexican style chocolate stout with pumpkin puree. Sounds good. Clown shoes is such a good brewery. They are. And I had this one when we recorded not that long ago. And it was really good. So I'm going to enjoy it again tonight. Oh, this is awkward. What about you? Y'all brought beers that you drank prior and I bought a beer that I drank last night. Hopefully not the same. It's literally the exact same beer I drank while playing trivia with Will last night from the Florida Avenue brewery. Like Dennis, no, sorry. This is from three daughters brewery in St. Petersburg. I was going to collect you on your own beer. I have dinner, okay? Three daughters brewery, a 10 minute walk to the trap. This is their mango crazy double IPA. It is a very hoppy, nice little mango drink. So cheers, everybody. Salud. Oh, it's going to be a good night. I got my buddy Sam over my left shoulder here. He's going to keep an eye on all of us. As we jump right in. Do you guys horror movie fans? Anyone know who Sam is? Trick or treat? Yes. Oh, yes. Well, my my friends kid, my friends like six year old was him for Halloween last year. And I had no idea who it was. I'm hoping a six year old has not seen that movie. Uh, they don't listen to this podcast. So I can say they aren't the best parents. He's seen that movie. And if you are listening, I'm sorry I didn't mean that. We're going to jump right in because we have got our one seed. Treehouse of horrors number five, which can, which included the shinning time and punishment and nightmare cafeteria taking on our play in game winner. Treehouse of horrors number 30, number 30 featured. Danger things. Having swipes right. And when Harry met slimy, will take us away. All right. Um, well, this is going to be very suspenseful. I'm sure everyone is nervous about this. Uh, if you didn't listen to the play in about between how episode 30 got on here, join Patreon, go listen to that. Um, we talked about that already. Some, I mean, some good IP, honestly, but just, it kind of fell short a lot. Um, they weren't the, it wasn't a good episode. Let's just say that. Um, five is an, um, one seed for, you know, the first five, five years of treehouse of horror were just, they're all classics. They're all bangers. Um, the shinning is just so, so funny. Uh, with, with Willy being, uh, he's the shinning that bark can see. Um, I think my favorite quote is, uh, I think Lisa says, mom is dead, good and eat us. And, and Marge says, well, we'll have to wait and see, or kill us, not eat us. She says kill us. Um, but yeah, I like, yeah, I like, I like that bit a lot. Um, and I mean, nightmare cafeteria, time punishment, I think is good, but nightmare cafeteria is really funny with, um, you know, all the kids getting eaten and stuff. Uh, uh, something, what do they call it? Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, brought in. Yeah. Ooh, ooh, such a good character. Um, I love when Homer slips him with a towel, uh, not entry house before, but, um, I'm rambling. Episode five is going to be my choice. I survived got a first vote and I'm going to save all of my father for episode five, because it's going to be here for a while. It is an easy choice, 30 limped in here. There's honestly, I'll give a little background of how I kind of rated these episodes was, um, there's some episodes that definitely get carried by a singular segment. And there's seg episodes that have all three of the segments are gold and those are going to be your ones that are going to be in the late eight and on. So hands down episode five is my choice for this one. Episode five got a second vote. Chris. Yeah, I don't even know. We don't even need to spend that much time on it. I didn't, I didn't even vote for 30. So, um, episode five and I'll save what I got for later rounds on that one. There are going to you. Yeah. Dinosaurs ended at 30. Uh, this is fine for me. Also, obviously, Mike, do we have a sweep? No, you, you, you prompted me to do it. I was, I was back and forth whether to do it. And then you, you, you basically set me up. I did steal your bit, but you're not a panelist. Uh, no, it's, it was said, uh, 30 was a play in game. It barely squeaked in here, uh, against very weak competition. Every single segment on five is better than every single segment in 30. And we're going to be talking a lot more about it later. So I'll save the rest of it, uh, for next time. And also because I'm, I'm bad at this. Yeah, you are. Well, narrowly, this would be the time in the podcast where I would compare episode 30 here to the Vanderbilt of college book. I can't do that this year. Unfortunately, I had to say episode 30 is the Florida States of the bracket. Oh, I know that here for you. Hey, all right. We are moving on. We're going to start this next one off with Ann and you are choosing between the four seed episode 28 with the suites here after the exorcists in Cora Lisa, taking on the five seed treehouse or horror number 19 with untitled robot parody. How to get ahead and advertising. And it's the grand pumpkin millhouse. Episode 19. It's the great pumpkin, uh, Charlie Brown parody for Millhouse's little child like love and just the trombone gag with Marge. There's, there's psycho killer use in this episode. There's two positive segments in 19 between how to get ahead of dead. I'm sorry, how to get ahead and advertising, which a great madman opening and grand pumpkin, but robot kind of forgettable, not going to lie. And then, um, versus the exorcist was a long time coming. I'm actually shocked. They took so many seasons before they parodied the exorcist and Maggie was an excellent choice. And it was good. And however, this episode core line carries it for me. I love that the leprechaun came back. Like, this was like when an anneal game in, uh, I, as much both of these are pretty good, but I think I'm going to have to take it. Core line is really, really memorable. It's creepy. It's, it's a great episode. It, it, it carries the other to the in the sausage party opening. So I don't think I'm going 28. 28's got its first vote. Chris. Um, yeah, I mean, the, that sausage party opening is, is pretty funny. Uh, the core line to just, just the style of it was really cool. It makes it memorable. Uh, I know there's quite the device feeling on Homer. Um, there's mixed, mixed reviews out there. I found it to be extremely unnerving and creepy. And so that's why this one's getting my vote. So 20, 28's going through for me. 28's up to nil. Let's go back to Sarah. So I, I, does anyone get like I, I watch these a lot and I rewatch them. And then just the theme is they love to eat people and they love to blow things up in the microwave. And it's a reoccurring theme. Um, in all of these. So obviously, um, Homer kind of with you on that, like it didn't really do much for me. Uh, the core Lisa was a little bit creepy. And even though I love all the Halloween whores, uh, tree house of whores, I'm not like a big spooky person actually. So if it even scares me just just a little bit. Um, I'm more of the, it's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Halloween shows. Um, I'm gonna vote for 19 to move forward. I agree with Anne. The Transformers one was kind of pretty, pretty meh in all of those, but I do like the, uh, the Mad Men opening as well. So I'm actually going to get my vote to 19 to move forward. Well, 19's got its first vote. Mike. Yeah, I, I, these are two kind of middle of the road tree house of whores. Uh, they don't have that the super highest highs, but they got some good moments. Uh, in, uh, 28, I really like the, um, the butter fingers callback and the sweets here after intro and I never, it never even occurred to me that was also a sausage party parody. Cause I never saw a sausage party, but I liked, I liked the reference to Bart being a butter's finger, butter finger given that he used to be a spokesperson. I thought that was pretty funny. Uh, and X exorcists, uh, there was some genuine, like, pazuzu was kind of genuinely frightening, right? And, and the animation in coral lease is great. Um, and I wrote this down because I'd forgotten this slide and I just thought it was so funny from the exorcist who you can't trust a Catholic priest with a child, child who can you trust? It's just like damn, but yeah, Homer doesn't really do it for me. And then you have 19 and, or 19 yet 19. Yeah, I was right. I read that right. The transformers parody is kind of whatever. It's got some decent site gags. Uh, the cold open, uh, where they make fun of rigged election machines has an aged well, uh, the great pumpkin. I wanted to like it better than it was. Uh, and there's some great random moments in the, um, how to get ahead in advertising, especially when you're like, Oh, gold of my year. Like what the hell is that pretty funny? Um, ultimately, I think that I'm going to give my vote to 19 as well and push this to a tie and see where it falls out. All right. 19 has tied it up with 28. Before we go to will, there are buzzer beaters for the round of 32. You get 30 seconds. If anyone wants to try and sway will one way or another. Now is the time to raise your hand. Now, Will, you're on your own, my friend. Make your pick. Good. Cause I can't be swayed. Um, this is a good battle. Like they're both like, I pretty like even episodes. I mean, that's how picks work out a lot of, you know, you get these, the picks that kind of go ahead to head. Um, I, I think 28's pretty great that, that, um, the intro with the candy and it was, it's barter finger, uh, not butter finger. I think they're, you're correct. Yeah, that was good. Azuzu, I, I agree with Mike. I thought it was really good. And Anne, you took the words that I'm out. I can't believe it took them that long to do an exorcist bit. Um, or segment. Um, I, I loved when, uh, Bart's like, I want horns and he gets like the little nubs and then home was like, those are nubs. And then so just jams the horns off Homer's nose. Uh, I, that really cracked me up. The Cora Lisa was, was pretty funny. I'm not even a big Cora line fan, but the art, the animation was fantastic. Uh, I liked her sewing the buttons over. I scared her. And then they had the, the joke that, uh, Homer's butt took three buttons to sew up. Um, it was kind of a, I don't know if you guys got that. That was pretty funny. Um, yeah, I, I like 28 a fair amount. Um, all right. I liked him. Homer. I, I thought it was pretty fun. It just seems very Homer-ish to eat himself. Uh, I'll, uh, 19 transformers sucked. The advertising was pretty good. I liked the, um, the Madman intro. And then my favorite line was about, uh, Krusty saying the true religion is a mix of voodoo and Methodist. Uh, that's right. Cracking up a fair amount. Uh, that being said, I think I'm, even though the Great Pumpkin is really good, it was a good rendition with Millhouse. I'm going to go at 28, uh, to break the tie. 28's moving on to the speed 16. And so are we. Your next matchup is going to feature the three seed treehouse, a horror number 11, which features go, go, go, go, go, go. Scary tales can come true. And night of the dolphin taking on the six seed treehouse or number 15, which features the Ned zone for beheadings in a funeral, which that wonderful and in the belly of the boss, we're going to start this one off with Chris. Okay. So you just the go, go, go, go, go, go. That, that, I mean, that's great. Um, this was a hard one for me because honestly, I, I don't have much passion either way towards either of these episodes. Um, so even going back and rewatching, I don't, it just neat, neither of them really did it for me a lot. Um, the Grimm's fairytale, I think, was probably my favorite segment out of the six. So for that reason, I'm just going to push number 11 through. Number 11's got its first foe, Sarah. I'm kind of with Chris on this one. I, I was a little surprised to see the episode 11 was a three seed going into this. Um, I, I think my favorite out of the two is for beheadings in a funeral and it has Ralph in an opium den, which is pretty cool. Um, and then at the end of that one where Homer expands into Mr. Burns and it's Frank Sinatra. I've got you under my skin. I love Frank Sinatra. Uh, the Grimm's fairytale, I don't know. I, I actually, I, I watched Simpsons every night to fall asleep and this one had come on a week or so ago and it was kind of unforgettable to where I was looking at it and I had to rewatch it again. Um, so I'm actually getting in my vote to, uh, episode 15. Episode 15, set it up one to one, Mike. Yeah, this one was, uh, actually not all that difficult for me, uh, for, for primarily two reasons. Um, number one, I love the 80 sitcom cold open parody, keeping it codos in 15. And number two, I really just don't like night of the dolphin in 11. It's just, it's just weird and it's never, it's never clicked with me. I do think there's other things in a, in 11 that are really good. Like the, the, in Guga ghost dad where, where they had a lot of fun with all the times at home or almost died. I kept getting a kick about how, how much they escalate that's there's, there is some good stuff in there. I actually think my favorite segment of all these might be the Ned zone though. I just, I think that one's a lot of fun. Uh, so for those reasons, I'm going to go with 15. No, 15 broke the tie. Next picker goes to Will. All right. Um, it's tough. I don't necessarily love either of these as well. Um, I like the munches and intro, intro a lot. Just favorite, one of my favorite shows as a kid. Um, I like Homer dying by eating a piece of broccoli and then going back and doing it again. Um, very, very Homer Simpson. Um, there's some good jokes. Uh, Homer climbing up Rapunzel's hair and then just ripping your scalp off is pretty funny. Um, and then, uh, I liked the dolphin bear. I liked Lisa getting flat in the face with the dolphin tail. Uh, and then just the whole city ending up in the ocean or whatever, like on the couch is pretty funny. Um, for 15, the dead zone, I, you know, didn't really care about it too much. Um, one of the things I hated was that like Ned always calls Homer like his best friend and I'm like, dude, find a better friend. Yeah. I, I, I did love all the British stuff. Like, that's not a snog. Um, and then just chief wiggle. I'm like, just did like burning British food and like, you know, calling it crap. Um, because it is. And then, uh, and then my favorite joke of that episode was Ned telling the natives that, uh, they were having sex wrong because he was a missionary. Um, I forget a little funny bit, but, um, even with that, I'm going to go with 11. I think it's just like overall has better jokes, uh, than 15. You jerks. It is currently a two to two times going into Anne with me. She's going to be the one making the final pick. Anybody want to lodge a buzz or be to try and swear one way or another? No, I think this is to like, just let it go. How, how, how, and besides. And it's literally, you are the Elsa in this scenario. Let it go. This is tough. When I did my rankings, these are tied. These are completely tied. Um, I loved Night of the Dolphin. I'm the opposite of Mike on this one. Snarky is like one of my personal heroes. Is it snarky or snarky? I think it's snarky. I thought I've always called him snarky. Maybe I'm wrong. I think it didn't know. And now I have to rescind all of my opinions on this because that's changed everything. Uh, the ghost dad where, where Marge gives him ways to get into heaven and he goes, Marge, I'm just trying to get into heaven. I'm not running for Jesus is a fantastic line. Uh, George Cauldron actually showing up at the end of the Grimm's fairytales is a fantastic bit. But then at Ned zone, I think this is where it's going to sway me a little bit because 15 Ned zone is above the others, like way higher than the others just of kind of the, the overall, um, episode of Ned zone. I don't know how else to say. I do love the Cockney accents for four beheadings and a funeral and the Sherlock Holmes spin of it. But I feel like the, uh, fantastic voyage gets kind of lost. So because of that, I'm going to go with the dolphin. I think kind of go with 11. Well, 11 is picking up another narrow victory. It's moving on to the round of 16. We are moving on as well. Cause your next pick is your two versus seven matchup. Your two seed is tree house of horrors. Number two, which features the monkey paw, monkey's paw, the Bart zone and if I only had a brain taking on their seven seed. Treehouse horde number 32 featuring a couple of these, my personal favorite, Bong Joo Hose, this side of fair sight. That's wonderful. Right, we're on Elm tree and dead ringer. This one, we are starting with Sarah. This is such a weird one to me. Um, I want to talk about some things from episode 32, but I think episode two for me, um, clearly a very early childhood memory of that one. So I, I kind of want to say what I'm going to say about that one, but episode 32 was slightly chaotic to me. So it was opening like Disney. You're thinking, okay, kind of Disney. And then it opens with Barty slash Bambi. And, um, then they completely just blow his mill, mill house's head off. And I was like, Oh shit. Okay. This is what we're going to do this time. All right. Um, it's not so Disney anymore. I actually never saw the movie parasite. So this one, that one for me didn't really go anywhere. Um, the artwork of Edward gory, that was really cool, uh, for that one, but it was kind of boring overall to me. And then the only thing that just made me laugh in the dead ringer is Rolf was making a joke that she killed Jerry and Larry. And I was clearly rock revolutionary and Terry. But then in another episode, I, they have brothers Jerry and Larry. I thought, I thought that was crazy, but I mean, those are my feelings on episode 32. I just had to get those out of there. I'm going to vote for episode two. Obviously that is the second treehouse of horror. It's a classic. I have a lot of memories regarding this and lots of things to say about it. And I hope we get to talk about it later. So episode two. This is another edition of Sarah's therapy session. Has its first vote next pick goes to Mike. Uh, yeah. So 32 is maybe, maybe a tad under seated. It's, it's not bad. I mean, it's not great, but it's not bad. Um, I like that they cracked a joke about, uh, how they always have the lame one that's in the middle. I appreciated that joke a lot. Uh, although very often I find that the middle one is, uh, tends to be, uh, one of my favorites in some of these, but, um, I liked, I liked when the, uh, the treat with the treehouse coming alive and all the trees and using pollen as a weapon that hit a little too close to home for me, maybe, but this is treehouse of horror number two. It's, it's one of the early ones. I actually do think of the early ones. It's not the strongest, but it still has a lot of really memorable stuff to it that, uh, it absolutely deserves to move on here. Uh, I love when Lisa wishes for world peace and Homer's like, that was very selfish of Lisa. Uh, treehouse of horror number two is getting my vote. Number two is got a second vote. Next pick here goes to Will. All right. I'll talk a little bit about episode 32 or treehouse for 32 just because it's not moving on. Um, uh, I thought I don't love the Disney intro. I, I mean, I don't know. Oh, yeah. Let's be for debt. Uh, I, I just prefer a more horror theme than like like Disney animals getting blown apart. Not that that's not fun, but, uh, just not my cup of tea for an intro. Um, parasites, cool movie. I don't really think, I mean, they kind of just copied the movie. They didn't do a lot. That was really like fun with it, in my opinion. Um, this is, uh, I do like the little bit of the, the issue and scratchy, the dough piercer, which is, I think, the second time snow piercer is on a treehouse of horror episode. Um, just in a different form. Um, the tree thing was dumb. I really didn't like it. And then the TikTok and the ring thing was kind of stupid. Um, I'm honestly surprised it took so long for the ring to be on a treehouse of horror episode. Just kind of like, uh, the exercise was, but yeah, I just kind of wanted to go over my thoughts on 32. I'm definitely picking number two to go forward. Uh, we'll definitely be getting into that, uh, in the next round. The number two is moving forward. We'll see it in the next round, but I want to hear from everybody. And that includes you. So I'll throw in a couple of positive notes for 32. Um, I, I did kind of like the parasite one because it was true to the movie a little bit in a, in a tongue and cheek way to add the, I, I enjoyed the way they worked the characters in. I thought they were really like well matched on the characters and a lot of the earlier episodes are pretty heavy with the violence being very like gun forward and parasite did an excellent job of the violence being all just random objects that they felt. So that kind of, as weird, as odd as it was that that pleased me. But, um, and just the gag with Grandpa Simpson getting the seven days phone call and he's like, what? And he keeps making him repeat it. And then he goes, let me just give you my credit card number. I mean, the ring was, was pretty great. Um, and Hathaway's singing, I could take it or leave it with, or Annie, Annie Hathaway's singing, I could take away or leave it with the Bambi opening. It was, it was kind of a fun, another, not like a shit on Disney sort of thing. So the episode itself and Professor Frank screaming, always teaching science. Doppler affecting away. Um, the episode itself is super positive, but no, can't hold up to two. I'm going to talk about that one later. Can't hold up to it. Two's moving on. All right, Chris, do we have a sweep? Oh, yeah, we got a sweep. I mean, I do love the Bambi spoof. I like that the hunter finally gets what's coming to him for killing Bambi's mom, spoiler alert. Uh, but yeah, no, it's, it's not even close to number two. I'll number two to the solid number two, what number 32 is we are moving on. Our next batch up from the lower left hand corner of the bracket, the one seed is episode 33, which features perhaps my favorite title of the segment here, the Pooka Duke, also Simpson's world and death to me or death to me. Don't know. Home. Death home. Death home. I assume, Mike, I, I had assumed you didn't put the space in the middle there. Oh, it's fair. Taking on, in this case, the eight seed treehouse of horror number 26 featuring one to dead, then alive, Homer Zilla in telepaths of glory. Mike, we're starting this one with you. Yeah, 26. The concept of a sideshow Bob finally getting to, to, to kill Bart. It felt promising and then it just didn't deliver to me. Uh, and, and then Homer Zilla was very forgettable. And, uh, you know, teleplast of glory is, was, was okay, I guess, but it's, it's also not one that, that I remember a whole lot. I thought like the, the twist at the end with Maggie was kind of good, but 33 actually is, especially with, uh, of the more recent treehouse of horrors is one of the, the far more memorable ones, I think. Uh, all of the segments are really good, really entertaining. The Pooka Duke is, is actually genuinely creepy at parts. Uh, the, the animation in the death tome, uh, the anime style is actually really, really cool and different for the Simpsons. And then the Simpsons world is just so chockful. I mean, great. It, it's all self referential, but the, the references they pull are really great, especially making fun of the meme with, with Homer going back and forth through the hedge and stuff like that. It's so, it's, it's a ton of fun. So, uh, I am giving my vote to 33 on this one. 33 has got a vote. Will. Uh, Mike said a lot of the things I wrote down for my notes. Um, yeah, 26 didn't have a lot going for it for me. I had liked the idea of Bob being there, but outside of him, realizing that hunting Bart was the only thing that truly made him happy. It just, it felt flat for me. Um, Homerzilla is fine. You know, it's, it's, I can take it or leave it. Um, I think the only redeeming quality of that one is, um, principal Skinner, uh, correcting like graffiti on a wall so that it says wiener, um, about himself. I spelled wiener wrong. Yeah, back to the first episode. Yeah, it was very funny. Um, and then yeah, I honestly, 33 is really, for a newer Simpsons, I know new Simpsons gets shit on a lot. 33 is really, really good. Uh, Mike brought up the art style. Um, I know we'll talk about 33 again. So I won't say much more, but the anime studio in South Korea that did, uh, the animation for Death Note actually did the animation for this episode. Um, or for that segment, which was pretty cool to have them be brought in. So, uh, yeah, I'm fully supporting number 33 in this book. And, um, gonna echo, I'm, I'll talk a bit about 26. Um, I do enjoy Bob finally getting his win. And Kelsey grammar can do no wrong. He's, he's got a fabulous song. He's got a whole fantastic series in that segment. The rake coming back, the leprechaun call back in this episode. I mean, there, there are positives. However, I feel like the Godzilla episode, they did it already with King Homer. The King Kong was, that God, they're very similar in the sense it wasn't anything particularly new in my opinion. And then telepass of glory. I mean, I just kind of got lost in the shuffle. And I'll agree with both Mike and Will that 33 out of the newer episodes really shines. And I got to go with 33 on this one. 33 has picked up another vote when I suddenly realized that I don't know what to do with this tall salad and scrambled eggs. While I figure that out, Chris. Oh my God. Um, yeah, again, you guys are hitting on pretty much everything. Um, I mean, 33 I think to me is by far the better of these two. Um, and actually it's, it's kind of one of my favorite and the overall thing. So I'm going to save some of my most important stuff. I mean, the Simpsons ended up in Bob's burgers world at the end there. I mean, that's it. And death, Tom, just the animation of it was lights out. So up 33 all the way. Sarah, bring us home. All of those things, like exactly all of those things. Except 26, I think the intro was Brendan Stimpy style, which made me a little bit happy. And I think that's where someone can fact check me on that. But I think it started very ren and stimpy ish and then kind of bleh from there. 33 was surprised me. I liked it so much. So yeah, 33, it's a sweet rolls downstairs. Donor and pears. Open your neighbors. Just I'll jump in real quick. That was a uh ren and simpy. Uh, it was animated by the creator Everett and Stimpy. Oh, no kidding. That's cool. Great for us now. We're handy with that Google man. Let me keep keep you around. It's log, log, log. Don't, don't torture the listeners guys. Chris started it. I pretty sure I ended it too. They stopped listening while producing the next it's our four or five matchup, the four seed episode tree has a horror number 31, which featured toy gory into the home reverse and benign rewind taking on the five seed tree has a horror number 24 over the places you'll don't dead in shoulders, freaks, no geeks. We're going to start this one off. Let's go to will. Oh, I wasn't ready. Um, all right, uh, these are pretty close episodes for me. Uh, the intro for 31 was like, it shows you the horrors of not voting, uh, which if you listen to me on a on a PTE pod lately, I'm pushing for everyone to vote this, this election. Um, I like the Toy Story bit. The animation was fun. Um, Bart is like, clearly, uh, uh, uh, said in this from Toy Story very much him. Um, the, uh, uh, who's one of the action figures, his, his widow was a monkey. Um, and then the crusty just says love is love, which I love the message there. Um, that the spider first parody, uh, was fun. Um, but it didn't really like, I didn't love it that much. I just, I love that they included spider verse because it's such a great movie. And then the Russian doll parody, I did not, I don't like their, the groundhog, they trope. So I wasn't a big fan of it. Um, the intro for 24, it kind of just might seal the deal for me. It was created by Guillermo del Toro. Lots of references to his movies, but a lot of references to other movies too. Um, it was just very, very good. I liked Bart's head getting chopped off by the kite from Arnie Pi in the sky. Um, I don't want to run this up too much, but I think really just that the episodes are close for me and that Guillermo del Toro is going to take it away. So 24 for me. 24 has got its first vote. Anne Guillermo del Toro is, I agree, the best part of 24. Um, the rhyming for the Cat in the Hat sequence got, I mean, there's some Simpsons or clever, clever AF. They're really, really good. There are some very strong rhyming episodes, musical episodes in this list. And for some reason, the cat in the hat just didn't sit with me very well, except for the Mike Myers comment. Please don't let me be played by Mike Myers. The, uh, the thing with two heads, uh, it's a good Lisa and Bart episode, but it gets lost in the shuffle a little bit and then freaks wasn't necessarily horror for me. It was a sweet love story. Great line with the ugliest thing in the universe being Mo and just the woman screaming bloody murder when she saw him just and he's literally just sitting there. That's like his old, like, shick. Um, so, I mean, that being said, the, the episode is good, but the, the Toy Story animation and the, into the toy gory and the into the Homer verse, just the iterations of Homer and like the opener that is just so anti-Trump, just the, the multitude of things. And this was several years ago and it was still a like 20 and not to get, you know, we have lots of listeners all over, but I mean, it was 20 seconds of like listing stuff. So I, it was very good damn, Simpsons, damn. And it's interesting that Russian doll is the reference for the third one because I could say, um, happy death day. I could say live, die repeat or like, yeah, like calm springs. Like they're to your point of groundhog's day trope. I think they did it. Okay. So I'm going to go with episode 31 on this one. Sorry, Will. No, Chris, going to you. Yeah, so the toy gory, I loved, I loved the play on, on Toy Story. Although that says, um, you know, one of my favorite animated films, so that that was nostalgia for me for a newer Simpsons episode to hit nostalgia. That's not Simpsons. That just did it. And then Spiderman into the Spider verse. I mean, Marge finally getting the Homer that she wants at the end, just for a deterrent. I mean, that was great. Um, and yeah, and then on, on the other episode, really the, I get, yeah, the freaks and geeks, it wasn't scary. Um, and they, they tried to parody how I met your mother. And I love how I met your mother. And to stick it at the end of that segment, nah, that, that, that loses it for me. So 31's got my vote. 31's picked up its second vote, Sarah. Well, I actually made a note that the intro was actually one of my favorites too. Um, so as soon as you said that, I, I agree with you on that. 31, I, I don't know, man, he does microwave radioactive men in the microwave. I don't know if you guys caught that they microwave people. It's a recurring thing, uh, stuck out with me. Of course, it's a great episode. But I, I don't know, I, I dug the, the Dr. Seuss episode, the references, the fat in the hat. Maybe I'm simplistic childhood, like nature in me just wants to go with Dr. Seuss. So, um, and then the only other thing is we'll also clarify the comment that Skinner's mom said to him in, uh, dead and shoulders. You start a car like you start a family, uh, and cut out on a little moment on the ground. Amazing part, amazing part. So I'm actually, my vote goes to 24. This has been amazing because you all have either been like in lockstep or for often. Completely. We've had one that we've had that was a four to one win. Was a mercy vote in a play in game. Cookie Dory or want to kill each other. So, can I call him for a buzzer beater, Chris? I was about to call for it. So it's yours. I'll try and sway Mike. All right. So there's two parts of, uh, the one where Bart's head, uh, he gets, he gets so on this, I think it's Selma's body and she's smoking and it's coming out of his ears. And then she says that she's always going to have a karaoke partner and she's like, mock and Bart's like, yeah. And she's like, yeah. And I love that. It makes you think of, uh, dumb and dumber. Uh, and it's just, I don't know, I love it. And again, uh, that, that I didn't say this, but the Dr. Seuss, uh, I think it's great. The art style was band to, it looks like straight out of a Dr. Seuss book in a scenery was cool. I loved it. So yeah, I, I really think you should put 24 forward. Mike, did Will work or are you going your own way? Um, Will worked only in the sense to reinforce the way that I was already already going to vote. So sorry, sorry, Will, for you wasting your buzzer beater. Um, 30, 31, I do like, I think it's got some good stuff. I, I wanted to like toy gory more than I did because it does play with that, that toy story nostalgia, but I just never felt like it really went anywhere. Uh, the home, the into the home reverse thing was, had a few laughs. It was kind of predictable. I actually really enjoyed the b9 rewind section. I thought they came up with fun ways, uh, fun of the, all the various ways that they kept dying. I, that I think I've mentioned that on another episode previously, the way that they get really creative in ways that people die as always, uh, entertaining to me. But no, 24 was going to get my vote here, uh, for honestly two primary reasons. I do like the cat in the hat segment a lot too. I think that has a lot of funny, fun site gags, but, um, the intro and I didn't even know until now that that was directed by Guillermo del Toro, but that, that absolutely tracks. And I actually really liked the freaks and freaks, no geeks one at the end because, and I think it's because I've actually seen the original freaks movie from the thirties. And it was the references that it makes it. It's, it's just spot on. And I really appreciate a spot on, uh, Simpson's parody. So 24 is going to get my vote. 24 is moving on to the next round. We've got two picks left this evening and you're cooking us off as she grabs her notebook. I'm gonna tell me what I'm looking at. Literally no. The only thing I had to do here is tell you what you're picking and start and stop on the recording. Uh, and you're choosing between the three seat treehouse of horror number nine featuring hell to pay the pair of tiny tune and starship poopers taking on the six seed. Number 21, war in pieces, master and cadaver and tween light. Whoa. Okay. Uh, so season nine, the hell to, I mean, snake doesn't get into, I feel like I could be wrong, but I feel like snake doesn't get into a lot of treehouse and horror. So it's kind of nice that, uh, he gets almost an entire segment, even though it's just his hair. And like the, uh, the terror of tiny tune gets lost. I don't remember that one. When I rewatch this one, I had actually totally forgotten that the kids get sucked into an itchy and scratchy episode at one point. So again, kind of my, my basis for episodes is usually like how many of them are quality or like the segments, but starship poopers is pretty fantastic as a king and codos focus one with March, March, uh, producing an offspring in, in her youth for king and codos. And then let's see, the other one is 21. So this one is the, oh, the hell razor kind of jumanji one. All right. Okay. Sorry. I was not ready for this. And then master and cadaver. The, I believe that one's the one that has Hugh Laurie as a, as a guest. Um, is that the one that has Hugh Laurie? Yes. Why us indeed it is. Yeah. And he's really, really good in that. I mean, he just carries that, I feel like mouse trap also does suck. That is a terrible game. I'm more of an activity. You know, like, it's, it's, how does anybody ever necessarily beat that game? And so because I might get to talk more about it later, I think I'm going to go with 21. 21 is my vote. 21 it's got the first vote. Next up, we're going to head over to the far side of the world and hear from Chris. Yeah. So, boy, 21. That's the one that's got a, that's got Potter in there too, right? Mm hmm. Yeah. Totally missed the Potter part. Yeah. Dana Radcliffe plays Edmund. Uh huh. Yeah. Yeah. And Carter slash Twilay. Yeah. And it's, you know, and it's, it does have one of my favorite quotes where it's, you know, his blood is full of cholesterol. It is, I mean, oh my god, it's so bad that it can kill him. I mean, that's great. I do love the mouse trap too. I can remember spending so much time setting that game up just for that thing to not fall. Yeah. But then it seems like a lot of work to capture a mouse. And I mean, this, this is probably the hardest one on this round for me because I love Snake too. So to see him appear on there. And just in that segment, I mean, they punch each other in the face so much I laughs every time somebody gets punched in the face. Um, and, and I love the itchy and scratchy too. Plus the intro with Freddie and Jason and Robert England actually guest appearing to voice Freddie. Um, so I think number nine is going to get my vote. Number nine is headed up one to one Sarah. My goodness. If you don't vote for Jerry Springer, what the hell are we even doing here? Like that. I don't care about any of the other parts of those. I am 100% voting for Maggie being the daughter of Jerry Springer. Episode nine. Episode nine's got another vote. Mike Starship poopers to me is absolutely the highlight of Treehouse of horror nine. Uh, it's, it is, it is a lot of fun, especially that, uh, especially the whole Jerry Springer thing. Let's, let's, whatever he says, like, let's, let's resolve things the way that people do. And then they go on Jerry Springer. That one is a lot of fun. The other two, I've just never been a huge fan of. I love snake. It was just, but the, the, the murderous to pay thing was just maybe, and maybe it's my, my own lack of hair, but it just never sat well with me. And I actually had a lot of hair when that aired. So, um, but I, so, and I'm, I'm not just doing this just to, just to piss off Chris and make it yet another tie, but I think I'm genuinely was going to vote for 21 anyway. I think there's, uh, actually some legit scares and master in cadaver cause it's kind of a dead calm, you know, it's kind of aligned with that. And, and yeah, having, having, uh, one of the, well, really the star of one of the big, uh, young adult franchise, movie franchises, uh, play in a parody of another, another one is just brilliant. I think that I think that, uh, Daniel Radcliffe and tween lights, a lot of fun. And, um, as Ann said, uh, Hugh Laurie and, uh, is just masterful in mastering cadaver. No pun intended. Uh, 21's going to get my vote. Bold me to think I give a shit what your opinion is high. Everyone but will has a buzzer beater left. Will you're up. Anybody want to try and sway? Will one way or another here? He's already said he can't be swayed. So, ha ha ha ha ha. No, no, he's got some, some blue suede shoes and we'll see what happens. Will take us away. So that's 13. Uh, well, well, well, this is going to be fun. Um, I think, I mean, some very good points made by the panelists. Uh, it's, it's tough, but it's honestly not as tough as it was like for some other people. Um, I honestly think that you manji bit was not good. It didn't hit for me. Um, the master and cadaver. Honestly, I feel like I had too many like sexual jokes. Like for a Simpsons episode, like there's one where like there's a radio sitting in front of Marge and they're like tweaking the knobs and it's just like, it felt a little too adult. Um, and as much as I want, like the Simpsons, it's, it falls in a weird place. Like, is it a family show? Was it not like, and then stuff like that to where it's like, parents are definitely not gonna want their kids to watch that shit. Uh, tween light. Uh, it was, it was funny. It had some good bits. Uh, no house morphing into a poodle was, was really funny. Um, but I will say nine's gonna take it for me. It's got some really, really good bits. I'll talk more about it next round. So I'm not running this too long. I will say one of my favorite parts was Bartley said being in the TV and then like going to the different shows. I love them like shopping and every just in Cali. Like I thought that was a pretty cool like work of like animation with live action TV. Uh, there's some good bits and we'll talk about it more next time because I'm picking nine. We will be talking about it more in two episodes from now. Nine is moving on. We're moving on to our last pick of the episode. Chris, you are kicking us off here between the two seed. Episode number three, which includes clown without pity, King Homer and dial Z for zombies. Taking on the seven seed tree has a horror number 10. I know what you diddily Italy did. Desperately seeking Zina and life's a glitch, then you die. Yeah. Yeah. I know what you diddily diddily didn't do because that episode sucks. I'm sorry. Episode and I can remember when it came out thinking like, Oh, it's 10. This is going to be a big deal. Man, it just sucked. This one isn't even going to be close. I don't think so number three. There's so much to get into there. But I mean, this has to make it through. So I'm going to save my stuff. Three goes through. Sarah. Yeah. This one was tough for me only because I don't have feelings really either way toward these. I feel of the earlier Simpsons. These aren't ones that really, they're not my favorites. I do of all of them. I would say the clown without pity is my favorite. I love when Krusty goes home to the Barbie at the end of the day. And it's amazing. That one, I think out of all of these is probably my favorite. So I'll give my vote to three. Three is up to no Mike. I'm actually going to disagree slightly. I think 10 is a tad underceded here. And I think the problem is, is that I know what you did. Italy did is not a good segment. And when you start off with the worst segment, it drags down the rest of the trials of war. But the other two segments are actually pretty entertaining. One of my favorite moments in any treehouse of war is when Lucy Lawless is flying them to safety at the end. And Lisa goes, wait a minute, Zina can't fly. And she goes, I told you, I'm not Zina. I'm Lucy Lawless. And she goes, oh, I love that. And honestly, Lisa gets the two best laugh lines because the other funniest part of the of the episode is when she's asked which parent she wants to bring. And like, she doesn't even hesitate. She says, mom, like the timing on that is absolutely brilliant. All that being said, to this day, I don't know what potassium benzoate is. But I know it's bad. This is treehouse of four or three. And it's not close. Number three is got its lucky number third vote. Well, let's hear from everybody will. Uh, yeah, I think honestly, I think 10 could 10 has a lot of potential that it just doesn't live up to. I think combo guy being like a a villain is a very fun plot. And it could have been better. Mike, if those, this is not, this is an audio medium. So like, you can't see me, but I was quoting Mike's quote about Lucy Lawless flying it gets me every time. Um, Y2K is it's a funny one. Like it doesn't feel like an age well. So she feel like younger people like who weren't alive during that time. Like they're probably going to be like, what the hell is going on here? Like, this is stupid. Um, so it just, I don't know, it just doesn't age well for me. But yeah, 10 had potential, but it just fell flat in a lot of places. Uh, episode three is so good. I love the, uh, we also sell frozen yogurt. I call it. There's so many good quotes in these, in these bits. Uh, I'll save a lot of what I have to say because, uh, it's going to pop up again. So I'm voting for three. Now y'all have been a Jekyll and Hyde here tonight so far. I'm going to bring over to Ann, that's her best Eddie money impression. As I say, take us home tonight. Take me home. Is that what you needed? Or like, I don't know. I was asking you to do the be my little baby part. There we go. Uh, I will give the time to episode 10 that it deserves. And we won't know. I'm kidding. Uh, ever since so, I agree with Will in the sense of like, it could have been so much better than it was. I like, Ned going on fog walks. I worry about my little netty on his fog walks. And it's just turning into him in a werewolf is kind of like, okay, the Zina episode, I would have loved to have an entire Simpsons episode just with that and it not be in a tree house. Yeah, because yes, that segment was effing hilarious. I loved it. I loved everything about Lucy Lawless kicking ass. I just didn't necessarily feel like it felt that it should be in a tree house of horror. Um, it was, yeah. And then the life's a glitch then you dive for a capture in time of remembering 1998 and 1999 of the world is going to end in the year 2000. And like having rocket shoot off the planet because everything started. Like, we just shut down because 2000. Oh my God, the world's ending is it's like really, really topical. But I don't really, the amount of Rosie O'Donnell and tree house of horror, I can do without that. So I mean, and Tom Arnold, I mean, it's just kind of an amazing snapshot of the time period. But again, tree house of horror. I can, I can leave it. So I'll give it its time. It's dude. It was fine. It's, it is towards the bottom for me. Whereas the opposite of episode three, I can't even pick which quote I want to use to move on. So I'm just going to say like, I was strolling through the gas one day and vote for three, please. Three is moving on and it's getting swept there. I've got to ask you guys know, I'm a huge horror guy, but I've never seen a single up to the tree house of horrors. But like, I'm looking at this. And you say tree house of horrors? He's been saying it the whole time. I haven't corrected him yet. That's, that's the teens. That better for you, Will. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you. He's like, fuck you all. This is why I drink. Let me understand. I'm going to grab another beer when this reporting's over. Desperately seeking Zina is that that's got to be some sort of a play on desperately seeking Susan. Do they actually have anything to do with the movie in the show or is it just they're playing on the word? They're just playing on the word. And then it's just a play on the title. Yeah. I mean, that's like her then to a horror movie. I would have been interested. Well, that's they do that. They pick a clever name sometimes like for the master and cadaver. They're on a boat. So they're they're definitely dead calm. They're playing after the movie master and commander for the title. But the parody they're playing off is that that call or whatever it is because that they'd call him. Yeah, I've never seen that. You know, a horror movie that comes. I'm not. I enjoy them. But I like I like the real artsy shit and weird stuff like like her commentary and Midsome are I like the weird stuff. Ari Aster got it. Have you seen anything by Lars Von Shreer? I have no idea. Weird stuff. Start with Antichrist and let me know how it goes. Hell Satan. Okay. All right. I saw the house that Jack built that one. That's the only one of his I think I've seen. That's the most tame of his. Yeah. Yeah. And it was it was a delight until the last 20 minutes. But overall, sorry, good. No, you're you're good. Well, I honestly hope you all had as much fun listening to this as we had hosting it and playing it because that was a hell of a fun recording. I think it's a better episode. Mike, you sound so good. We agree, Mike. Let's move on. I hope Mike said it in this episode. I cannot believe his name is Snorky. I am like my entire identity is just. It just stood out to me. It's always just like, his name's Snorky. It's a dumb shit name. That's why I remembered it. It does make more sense for a porpoise, I guess.
Welcome back to Boozy Bracketology! The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror" is a Halloween tradition, and at this point there are over 32 to choose from, so this month we are going thematic and embarking on a journey to determine which of the 34 "Treehouse of Horror" episodes is the best. Chris has never seen a single episode somehow, so he's hosting while panelists Will, Anne, Chris, Sarah, and Mike make some tough decisions and, of course, a whole lot of jokey references. The only thing missing from this episode is a classic Marge warning about its contents, so don't miss it!
