WHAT ARE WE BRINGING TO THE TABLE?

We are only concerned with what we want. Think about what the other person's agendas and interests are. We might get a lot further.

You're Morning Grey of Sunshine by Anand Seth Kumar. What are we bringing to the table? This is an exciting project happening at work and we want in on it. We've asked for it, pressed our case, but nothing's happened. We start a feel frustrated and bitter. Wait, take a step back. We've only been seeing it from our perspective. Let's look at it from the POV of the people calling the shots. Why should they bring us on? What unique skill or knowledge are we bringing to the body? The day we figure that and make our pitch and it makes sense to the entrance, no one will say no. Our saviour, Varadabad, our kids are doing it. And this worry takes the shape of nagging them, pressuring them to study, giving them grief for bad marks. We justify this in the name of concern over the future, but just flip the perspective. What if they're already stressed about the exams and on top of that now, there's the pressure from us? They begin to feel like if they don't do well, they won't be accepted or loved. Like all we care about is their marks, result, rebellion, defiance. If all we are bringing to their lives is pressure and expectation, why would they see things, are we? What we need to offer is support, unconditional love, a reassurance that we are not judging them, that we will be okay with them no matter how badly they do. And then when they have dropped their walls, perhaps initiate a discussion about what the ambitions are, how they plan to get there, if they understand how the exam might make a difference to their dreams, their efforts may also change. But it has to make sense to them. We are only concerned with what we want. And that's how we engage in every relationship professional person. Think about what the other person's agendas and interests are. We might get a lot further. Sunshine in your day.
