I can also add another breaking news story for you which is kind of perfect if I may say so myself. Okay. (upbeat music) This is the Greg Cody show with Greg Cody. Pardon it. Here's your host, Greg Cody. All right, let's just get started right away because we're very excited here. Israel Gutierrez, Izzy to me and others. Most people call you Izzy, right? I mean, let's start there. Yeah, most people do these days, and then they ask if I prefer Israel because I normally introduce myself as Israel because Izzy just doesn't roll off the tongue for me. But no, I would say 95% of people now call me Izzy. Wow, and how about that? Of the 95%, what percent just shorten it to is and just go there? Eddie Jones, former Miami heat guard is the only person who regularly shortened it to is. Right. Well, he's a busy man. He doesn't have time for that second syllable. Exactly. So by the way, Christopher is God knows where, doing God knows what. I actually know that. He's in Tampa watching Morgan Wallen Wallen or Waller. I couldn't care less. Okay. It's not Waller. It's Wallen, Morgan Wallen. And Christopher apparently is embarrassed to be at that concert for political reasons or something and blames it on his wife being a fan. So we'll talk to him about that later on. He's down the middle, Chris. Yeah, he's down the middle. So if any audience leans any one way or the other, he'd be feeling comfortable. Yes. I would love to see Chris at a concert the way he runs like when he's the car DJ. 'Cause he's the classic 45 seconds and switch songs. Skip to the next song. Right. Let's get to the first chorus and then boom, next song. It's frustrating. It's very frustrating. That's why I don't like to drive in a car with him because seriously, even he will say, "Hey, I want you to hear this song. I love it." And he punches it in and it's a great song. Like, I am loving it. And 30, 45 seconds into the song, he's... Onto the next one. Punching another song. He literally cannot listen to three minutes' worth of music. It's musical ADHD. Like you can't... Absolutely is. That's crazy. He tries to... He tries to present himself as like a good car DJ. I'm going to keep the vibes going. You know, you don't want to get stuck. Like, man, I don't know. No, he did that once on my boat party. He punched out a song that was just coming on that I particularly like. I didn't know this. I've heard this story. It's a very obscure Elton John song called "Look My No Hands." It was from, you know, late in his career, probably 10 years ago, which is late in his career. And nobody knows that song, but it's a favorite of mine because he talks about one of the lines is "Look My No Hands" ain't you proud of me. Like he wants his mother to be proud of him and everything. And that in the context of me turning 70, that meant something to me, but he was oblivious to that and just punched it out. So anyway... Punching out a song, is that a jukebox reference? I don't know. Is that not a thing? I don't think so. I think you're just making that phrase up. All right, well, I invented it. Punching out a song. Pat and pending. I find it funny that he skipped through an Elton John song and not the pink Floyd song you had on there. Oh, yeah, exactly. Comfortable enough. That'll put everybody to sleep. It was funny to have comfortable enough played at a party. Yeah. That's normally one where I'm driving at night by myself that I blast, you know. No, at a party, I saw people jumping overboard. Let's put it that way. (laughing) That's how bad that song was as a choice for my party. Izzy, by the way, I got your gift. And thank you very much. The party has been really bad for my liver because I would say 50% of my gifts have been alcohol-related. I was concerned about that, but you know what? I feel like mine is more important than the others. Because it was very much I'm sharing a discovery with you and I'll share this with your listeners. Extra añejo tequila. Nice. At least a quality extra añejo tequila is amazing. And I am not a tequila drinker. It tastes nothing like tequila. And it's the only tequila I've ever drank that you can just pour over ice and drink and sip comfortably. And so I felt like I had to share that even though I know you're mostly a Miller Lite kind of maybe red wine guy. Yeah, but I've gotten into whiskey a little bit, believe it or not. Ever, maybe it's traveling to Ireland, I don't know, but so I'm expanding my horizons. I thank you for that. I don't know too much about tequila, but Christopher did tell me it's a very, very good tequila is the way he described it. So thank you for that. I want to mention real quickly by way of getting to one of my gifts that was really weird. I want to mention a few of the really thoughtful, good gifts I got from that party. Yeti, you gave me one. You gave me a vinyl LP of Pebble Drive with a lot of songs that are special to me. And that was so nice of you. I want to thank you again, although I've done it personally. I got a China box. What do you got? La caja, as a dota or something like that, the China box to cook up big in the ground. I'm really looking forward to that. Didn't sound like you were speaking Chinese. (laughing) I feel like I am. (laughing) I could learn Chinese more than I've learned Spanish living down here forever, which embarrasses me no end. Somebody gave me a cooking class, which I love. I love getting these gifts that are like experiences. You know, and a guy up the street, one of my neighbors gave me a framed photograph of Willie Mays' famous basket catch, which was very special to me. - The picture wasn't signed, was it? - No. - Okay. - No. - 'Cause that would have been the greatest of all the gifts. - You know what, he could afford the signature. I would have no idea what Willie's signature looks like. He could have done that. He probably should have, but he wasn't looking ahead. But I got one gift I wanna tell you and then we'll move on. It's like a little individual tap, like a beer tap. It's very small. It fits one beer can. Okay, picture this. You put a beer can and it comes out in a tap, which didn't make any sense to me. Like, I can pour the beer from the can into my glass, but now I have to go through all this process. - It's like different. It's officially on draft. - Right. (laughing) - Like, that's a funny visual for the game room of Kerios. - Oh, it's a, it's a, it's almost like a joke. It's like a-- - That's like something from like a Leslie Nielsen movie or something, yeah. - Yes, exactly. Like, it's over-- - Are you telling us who got you that gift? - I can't even remember, to be honest with you. - Gary the bag, probably. - No, it wasn't Gary the bag. Gary the bag gifted me with his presence. - My favorite part of this entire week was Gary the bag interrupting the Levittard show with sports, "Texting Who Sports Takes." - Yeah. (laughing) Yeah, well, he was texting me just before we came on to record this, which is Friday, where at Lake Friday we're doing this. And he, this is a normal question. He said, "Are you coming up for the Patriots game on Sunday?" And I said, "No, because the Herald barely has a budget to pay me a salary, let alone fly me anywhere." And, and then I said, "Are you going to the game?" And he said, "No." So like, why is he asking if I'm going up there? But anyway, that's beside the point. He's, Gary and I have developed a, like a real pen pal thing where we're constantly in touch, which is great. And he's coming down here in a couple of months for a nieces wedding. And so I told him I'd buy him lunch at Sunday's, which is a little hoagie place we know down here. So, Izzy, I want to ask you a question, and it concerns your career because it interests me. And I've been wondering about it. You're still with ESPN as an NBA expert, but the rumor mill has it that you were joining Metal Lock Media and slash the Dan Lebitard show full time. And I would like you to break news on the Greg Cody show podcast right now. - Well, I'll break news to you individually. I am no longer with ESPN at all. So that, I mean, you can still call me an NBA expert, but it is not, my expertise does not belong to ESPN. - Any more, I am with Metal Lock Media. And there you go, hit the news sounder, I guess. (upbeat music) - Wow, at the moment. (laughs) - Well, you know, I mean, nothing's forever, right? - At the moment. - Nothing is forever, Greg. And the only unfortunate part is as much as you kind of wanted to break this news, your beloved rival, hated rival. What is he, Jonathan Zazlo? - Yeah, we love Zazlo. - He might have beaten you to the punch on his podcast last week, or in this case earlier this week. So yeah, I mean, I'm sharing this with you a little later than I shared it with Zazlo, but I can also add another breaking news story for you, which is kind of perfect if I may say so myself. - Okay. - I'm engaged. (upbeat music) - Yes. (laughs) - Yeah. - Very nice. - Excellent. - Yeah. I mean, you obviously, for anybody who doesn't know, you broke the news in the Miami Herald, not on your podcast of Dan Levittard's engagement to his now wife several years ago. - As you did. - And that was, he considered it a betrayal, I believe. But I'm sure you guys are still great friends. And so I figured, what better place? I still haven't posted, we still haven't posted anything on social, it's just a lot of work to pick out all the right pictures and say all the right things. - Wow. - And so here you go, Greg Cody. It's my second engagement, but the first one that you ever broke. - Okay. - The most recent. That's the only one that counts, congrats. - I like this is Greg's post-hearled career, that he'll retire from the Herald and just become like celebrity engagement scooper. - But not quite celebrity, like a niche celebrity, like a de-list scooper of engagement. - That's close enough. We'll take it. Congratulations, you guys are getting, you're engaged now and the marriage is gonna be when and where. I don't know if you planned that far ahead to know exactly the where, but community. - We don't, I mean, we have ideas of doing something out in the really like wintery part, this Colorado maybe, like in the winter of 26 or maybe push it back to winter of 27 if we really want to. A lot of members of my family haven't really been in that part of the country when it's, when the weather's like that. And so I kinda wanna take them out there and Anthony and I've been in a lot of ski trips and it's been sort of a staple of our relationship. So just kind of fitting. And I don't think it's gonna beat where we got engaged though, 'cause we got engaged in Lisbon at I think the number 34 restaurant in the world currently ranked. - Oh my gosh, oh wow, look at me literally. - Which was an amazing experience and I gotta say, they're number 34, I think they're underrated because it can't be 33 better restaurants in that place. - Right, I'm just wondering if even globally your ranked number 34, is that the kind of thing where you put a weird number 34? - 34. - Or do you sort of downplay that? - No, I think you just keep the Michelin stars on the window and let that speak for itself. - Right, I love the whole Michelin star thing because even if you have one Michelin star, it's like worth bragging about. It's like a big time thing. - Yeah, yeah, I mean, some people would say you probably wanna go buy like James Beard award winners instead of Michelin stars 'cause they've kind of got a little commercialized. Like I went to a three, man, look at me look, I went to a three Michelin star restaurant in Spain and I was very underwhelmed, like with the food. Like everything else, a service presentation was great but the food, which is to me, obviously number one, the list of importance, not that great. - Wow, I'm honestly surprised. Is he, tell me more, before we eventually, I'm gonna talk to you about NBA in the heat 'cause I have a lot of thoughts on the heat and many of them are negative. But tell me more about your transition from ESPN to Metalarck and what you're gonna be doing moving forward with the Levittard show. - Yeah, you know, I feel like, I like to say 16 years, even though for four of those years, I'll still with the Herald. So 12 years total at ESPN, strictly at ESPN and nothing's forever, right? And I just kind of looked around and figured out the landscape of media and like what would make me happy? And I've been listening to Levittard show since it started, I've been down here, since I was two years old. And so, just find, I looked around and I talked to Dan for a long time and just sort of found a way I can help, a way I can contribute to his situation. And that's kind of what I'm doing now, I'll be on the air every once in a while, but yeah, just trying to find a way to be a part of a show that's meant the world to me for a long time. - Right, no, that's great. Podcast, everybody's got a podcast, I think Izzy needs one. - Yeah, there could be something like that in the works. I think, yeah, I think it's possible. Nothing concrete, nothing certain at the moment, but, you know, I feel like it's probably inevitable. - Yeah, you got a name picked out yet? Is it gonna be some crazy play on words? Izzy, Izzy, Izzy, Izzy, Izzy, you know, that kind of thing. - I've always had a couple of thoughts and like a podcast, I've always wanted to do one called TMI, Too Much, Izzy, and just really get in, just be a fun interview pod that just gets really deep and, but also, you know, not too personal, like uncomfortably personal, but just people like me who are an open book and willing to talk about anything. - Yeah. - And, you know, find a lot of people who can relate to what you're talking about and probably don't hear it very often. - I think actually the name uncomfortably personal would be a selling point for me. Like I would listen to any podcast that advertised as being just uncomfortably personal. Tell me about how low the Miami Heat ranks right now they're falling. I've written a couple of times and the whole mindset seems to be, all right, the Heat did nothing during the offseason to improve the team, right? And everybody else in the East has seemed to get better. And so the last time I looked at the betting odds, Miami is like mid-pack, like also Ranville, like 15th in the league in overall NBA title odds, sixth or seventh, I think seventh, now tied for seventh in the East even, like below Indiana. I mean, tell me what you think is the state of the Heat and how they got there. - I think there's a lot of gloom and doom on the Heat in terms of the projection and the prospects. And I think that's probably a little unfair. I think it's more just boredom. And if the expectation, like the problem with the Heat when they've struggled, when they get knocked out early in the playoffs has largely been held. Not to say that would've gone on with the championship, but something other than a first round, knock out feels like a significant season. And if you were to project health among this group, it's a very good deep group. Like it's a team that you look at and say, absolutely they can compete with the Milwaukee's and the Philadelphia's and even the Knicks because two of those three teams at least are going through some personnel changes that'll probably take them, could take them a while to adjust to. Although I think the Knicks in terms of fit are gonna look really good. But if you have a, assuming you have a healthy and motivated Jimmy Butler who's on a contract year, you've got Bam and something Kevin loves that at media day, Bam or most Olympians who come off that experience of winning a gold medal for some reason have a great year that follow. At least a great start to the year, but mostly a great season. And so you almost feel like you expect that from Bam. He still continues to have growth spurts in terms of skill development every year of his career. And you see a three point shot developing and so he'll probably show you even more of that this year. If you project hell throughout the lineup, it's hard to figure out how to defend that group. You've got so much depth. You've got Jaime Hawkez probably taking a leap. You've probably got, if you've got a, potentially a steal in Colell where I think that's probably going a little bit too far in terms of positive projections there. But if you do, I mean, you've got a very deep team. And if you look at the team that just won the championship, it wasn't, you know, Jason Tatum the head of the snake and then everybody follows. No, it was a team thing. Everybody could, you know, have a huge game and have a huge impact on any given playoff game, even not just during the regular season. So if the heat can sort of model something like that where we don't, you don't know where the scoring's coming from anything any given night, the defense is going to be sort of the calling card for the team and they're not going to let up. Because if that's, if Jimmy Butler's going to be told, hey, you got to play all the time and you've got to show us what your value is and you've got to work hard and this team's got to fall. Well, if he's going to be healthy and he's going to do it, this team's going to defend really, really well for the entire course of the regular season, which most teams, you know, have lulls in that area. So I just feel like the people who project gloom and doom are just projecting more injuries. And if that's what you're doing, fine. That's how you want to do it. But I'd rather say, hey, what would this team look like if it's healthy and to me, it's a top five, six seed in the East. Where my concern comes in with Jimmy is, and I know the team's a little different now, but for them to be the most exciting version of the heat that I've seen with Jimmy at the core, he's had to put on just the most like world beater display that we've seen. And I don't know how sustainable that is, both on his health, but also is he going to be able to carry that attitude through the season. - This is what I don't think when I say or when, you know, Pat Riley even suggests or are exposed to suggest that he needs to play more. It's not needs to play more and be, you know, 45 point of game in a playoff game type of Jimmy Butler. It's just set the tone. Be there when things seem to be collapsing everywhere. Hey, you know, settle us, draw some fouls, get to the foul line, et cetera. You know, get that pick six steal and settle your team. But if he's going to be there and just do that when needed, again, because they're so good behind him, he's not going to have to be, you know, he's going to, there's going to be games where he can take the fourth quarter off, you know? There's going to be nights where you can tell early on that it'll be, you know, Tyler and Rosie're game. And, you know, Jimmy just has to be solid. I think that's kind of the message, I believe, is just be available and, you know, as long as there's no freak injuries, you'll survive and we'll be better as a group. And I think there's sort of a selflessness message, not really message, but sort of a thread kind of going through the team right now with even Tyler Hiro saying, I'm not even going to talk about starting. I'm not going to talk about coming off the bench. I'm just going to leave it all to the coaches, all to the, you know, the front office people and just tell them to put me in the right position because I know whatever position I put in, I trust I'm going to ball out. And, you know, bam, being a naturally selfless player. And Jimmy, you know, I think there's probably a little something to him not showing up, not showing up in, you know, some sort of headdress or whatever. A lot of different hairdo this time and just being about business. And so, I think-- - Yeah. - I'm not showing up on time either. - Yeah, I know that's probably not his fault. Probably not his fault. I believe him on some airline stuff. - Okay, so even though much of the rest of the country is saying the heat are going to struggle, they're a play in team, you're saying, no, this is a team that's being underestimated and can compete for home court advantage in the playoffs. - Yeah, and I mean, underestimated is, the thing about the heat is if they show it, everybody'll be like, oh yeah, okay. Like we saw it, we see it, you know, it's just, it was, again, it wasn't available regularly because of injuries, you know, consistently enough. And when it was, at least for the most part, 'cause Tyler wasn't available, but twice when it was, they made the finals. - Right, I want to switch gears here for a minute. And I have breaking news about Greg's Lobos, okay? But I want to tease that. I want to get to that in a second. First, Yeti, I want to talk to you about something you're doing this weekend or this past weekend 'cause we come up Monday. But it's a wonderful thing. You and a church group are making the trek from Atlanta to Asheville, North Carolina to support the town that was absolutely ravaged by Hurricane Helene and particularly the terrible flooding there. North Carolina, by far, the hardest hit state. What can you tell us about what you're doing? - Yeah, so there's a group called Crisis Cleanup that does a really good job mobilizing different volunteer groups when these disasters happen. It's the group that my church has partnered up with over the years. Before moving to Atlanta a little over five years ago, we lived just outside of Wilmington, North Carolina for several years. And within, you know, right before we moved, we had Hurricane Matthew hit us in '16 and Florence decided to, you know, just stay on top of the Wilmington area for like two days back in 2018. And so we saw a lot of that devastation first hand in our own neighborhood, summed our own property, you know. Like we were mostly spared anything major, but six miles down the road, there were houses that were six feet deep in water inside the house. And so people from Western North Carolina or the Western part of the Southern States came out to help us a lot. So it's really cool to be in a position for us to be able to help them. North Carolina was not expected to get hit really, but then it went up and just it dumped over two feet in the mountains of North Carolina and through Tennessee. That whole Marty Sis Smith has been doing a lot to try to get the word out about the whole Appalachian region. And because those, just those areas, the way they have the valleys and so many lakes built around there and loads of rivers, they just couldn't handle it. So we are, we've been assigned to the Asheville area that there are groups all over the South. I'm leaving here right after we finish recording to get in a staging place where we can go up tomorrow morning. And they're gonna, I think expecting about 1,000 volunteers this weekend, just through this one organization. And so we're gonna be gutting out houses, ripping up the drywall 'cause you have to tear up to the water line to get all the drywall and the studs down. Basically, anything the water touched you gotta get rid of. And then tearing up debris, tarping up roofs, anything like that that we can help with. And so it's nice to be in a situation where I'm not having to fix my own property. We can go and help other people with theirs. - Yeah, it's no matter what you guys do physically, I would imagine to the people who are going through this, just the moral support will be so emotionally important to them. - Well, I can, from being a benefactor of it and to be on the receiving end, it was. We had people come out and be able to help remove a tree that was not affecting our house or anything. Our fence was already destroyed by the winds. But via, but like a tree that ended up on our property, just wasn't it, like I said, our house was fine. But it was just nice to know that we didn't have to take care of that cleanup by ourselves. Now think about the people who needed their roofs that are tripped up so that while it takes three months or more for the insurance claims to get through and to get somebody who has the availability to come and fix your house, to keep the rain from coming in even more. Like that, just the peace of mind that that can bring it, it's a lot. So like I said, especially we were supposed to get hit a lot harder than we did to be that fortunate to where we can go help. It's, you know, it's not enough, but it's gonna be something. And from a story perspective, if time allows, and we'll see if I'm able to get some of that perspective from people on the ground on not only the hurt that this storm causes, but if anything else, like I'm inspired by the humanity this causes. We're in the middle of so much turmoil here nationally, worldwide with, you know, we see so much hate toward different groups of people when we're all just people, man, we're humans. And to be able to see the goodness firsthand, we hear that it's out there. I can say that I know it's out there, but then to be able to see other people pitching in to help out their fellow people, regardless of who they are. - Yeah, that's really cool. - That's stuff we can grasp onto. And I hope that that spreads because hate begets hate, but love begets love. And I just hope that we can put more of that out there. - Yeah. And when you were, and when you referred to spreading hate and everything, I don't know what you're thinking of, but I might be thinking of, they're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats, you know, the idea that we're pretending like lying about migrants in Springfield, Ohio. - What are you trying to work? What are you trying to force in now? - I know. (laughing) - It's like so ridiculous to me. But I was actually thinking about that today. And I was wondering myself because we have a storm rolling in here, we're about to be deluged in a minute now. And what is more terrifying? The idea of people eating dogs and cats or the idea of it literally raining dogs and cats. (laughing) Because I would argue that cats and dogs falling from the sky in-- (laughing) - It's plague. (laughing) - Might be more terrifying than dogs and cats being eaten at ground level, I'm just saying. - Cats falling from the sky, sure. But adorable puppies that are available to keep. - Who's good? - Yeah. (laughing) - That's not terrifying at all. - Isn't there like a cat island? Is it somewhere, man, I wanna say it's like in Japan or something, there's just this island that's just infested with cats and the pictures are absolutely terrifying. - Really? You gotta lift this one up. - I bet, that's an island of sociopathic creatures. (laughing) - Nightmare. - Yeah, I feel like I could catch an adorable puppy falling from the sky, but 80-pound jumping Charlie falling from the sky, I'm moving out of the way, sorry. You're on your own Charlie, a splat, but-- - Speaking of, you were trying to hint towards some politics there. We do it before you get to Lobos, 'cause I got some stuff to make fun of you on there. We have had a mayoral response last week. We had the low energy mayor of Albuquerque had a sound bite on the show. Chris and I were discussing Mayor Matt, the mayor of Cartersville, Georgia, which you checked in, Cartersville was spared and they were okay, so that was good to hear. But you asked, what has he ever done for us? And I was too busy, I'll admit. At that point, it was Saturday morning, I had just gotten pictures of Chimney Rock and that whole Western North Carolina is super special to me and I was distracted. So I didn't even hear you say that until I was editing. But Greg, Mayor Matt wrote you a song and he sent it in several years ago. ♪ Cody keeps coughing when he speaks ♪ ♪ And that has a sore concern as how the foul look is bleak ♪ ♪ Hacking up for love ♪ ♪ When Greg Cody talks his constant choking and wheezing ♪ ♪ Back in my day ♪ ♪ We send those people away ♪ ♪ It won't be long, I fear that he will stop breathing ♪ ♪ Cody keeps coughing, we all know ♪ ♪ But listen and subscribe to the Greg Cody show ♪ ♪ You'll never know ♪ ♪ When Greg Cody talks his constant breath ♪ ♪ We'll be leaving ♪ ♪ Back in my day ♪ ♪ There'd be a hospital ♪ ♪ Stay ♪ - Wow, that's a banger. - Mayor Matt sent an excellent song in. I want you to, I want a favor of Mayor Matt and Yeti, you'll do this on my behalf, please, reach out to him. I want him to broadcast every episode of the Greg Cody show Monday morning from town square. But like, he was basically making like all these teams have their mascots and UM has Michael Irvin. - Okay. - Like that's like, it's crazy. - That's not bad. - He's just like running around, he's waving the flag. - I know. There was a great scene on TV in the second half, and they were still behind badly at this point. And you see Michael Irvin behind all the players, and he's given one of his speeches, you know, 'cause he's a great order. So he's given a pep talk, and he's doing his hands thing, and all the players are facing the field. In other words, he's talking to the back of their helmets, but it was just funny. And I love Michael, he's great. - Dad, yeah, you smell that? No, that smells like life in the dolphin season. - It does. - Everyone in the division lost, the Jets lose, the Bills lose. Josh Allen was 100% concussed, and just like, I love his dolphin fans now, we get to like look around the league, like yep, that's a concussion. Like his head slammed into the side of the thing. He went into the tent for like three minutes, came running out through a bad pass, terrible time management by the Bills late in that game. Holy crap, to give, they just handed Houston that last field goal attempt. But you know, dolphins win, obviously they don't look good. Two is coming back in a couple of weeks, they play the Colts coming up who don't look that good. I don't know, I'm just, smell just a little life, little life after it felt pretty, pretty bad the last couple of weeks. - Yeah, it's funny what I wrote in my column is, I want to be cynical guy, right? I want to look at this game. Two down teams, the two worst offenses in the league, it was a boring game, but I can't beat that guy right now because this is a desperate team and a desperate coach just trying to survive this season without tour. And that was a hell of a win. - You gave Huntley an extra, he looked like a guy who had another week to like, yeah, it's better. - I mean, it was an ugly win, it was not impressive. They made all kind of mistakes, especially in a embarrassing first half. Huntley looked more comfortable. - But they win. - Huntley looked more comfortable. - He did, and I knew he would. - His head looked like it was spinning last week. - Yes, I knew he would. And I predicted Tyreek would have a much bigger game which he did, although I don't think he got to 100. But no, it was a big win from Miami. I'm not going to make fun of it. I'm not going to belittle it. They needed a win desperately to save a failing season. And they got it. - And I love how I saw some stat before the game about how that concussions are down in the NFL. Not in the Dolphins, they're on a Chan guy one. - What happened? He got a concussion. - I know, I saw the play. - Yeah. - He didn't even hit his head on the ground. - It was just annoying to see that. - Oh my God. - It's like not on the Dolphins. - Oh yeah. - But you knew it was a concussion because one of the trainers was pointing like this way, you know, to the 10th. - I was thinking about you all earlier when I was looking at Dolphins versus Patriots and the schedule coming up. And I don't know what category you would call this game. You have different categories for certain games like, but like I was like, this is one of those games where you're not going to win any real like confidence points by beating the Patriots here. But this is just like, let's just survive because get through this. You save yourself from going down one to four or one and four. You also get the bye week coming up. And now like Chris, as you said, you've got the Colts. That buys time for Tua maybe to come back and you could be at 500 after the very next game, two weeks from now. - It went from being like, if they go one and four, like if they lose today, like they are, you could say like the season's over. - Yeah. - And now just like it, I think they're like one game or no, like are they tied for the division lead right now or something? - I doubt it, but maybe. - That's what I mean. It's just like it was a, obviously it's early in the year and you know, the Dolphins still look like crap right now without Tua, but you know, and when he comes back in a couple of weeks, they could still be in it with that win. - No, it's true. It may be the biggest shit victory in the history of this franchise. I will say that. - A shick-free, exactly. - Yeti, you were doing some very important stuff this week as like hurricanes right now are just like, it's hurricane season and you know, the Carolinas have been hit hard, Tampa was hit hard last weekend and now we got another one. That's looking like it's going at the West Coast of Florida. What were you doing this weekend? - I talked about this a little bit in the earlier part of the episode when you were in Tampa, Chris, about what I would be doing. So I won't bore us with that. So yeah, yesterday, Saturday, I was able to go up to the Asheville, North Carolina area to work with my church congregation and other volunteers to help with the hurricane clean up. The team I was on was assigned to the Hendersonville, North Carolina area, which ended up being kind of neat for me because just a month ago, my family and I were in that town attending their annual Apple Festival. So it was interesting for me to have just seen the place in normal circumstances and now to go back there in the aftermath of a horrific storm. Some groups were in charge of climbing on the house and putting tarp on the roof. Others had to go and clean out water damage and things like that. We actually were fortunate enough to be on tree duty, cleaning up debris and chopping up trees. And so the high level of what we were doing was getting the trees chopped up, getting the debris put together and out to the road to where cleaning crews could come by and put them in their trucks when that time comes. So we had a group of 15 people started the day with three orders and they thought maybe that would take into the next day to get all three done. But we actually, we took up, we did seven orders ourselves just yesterday and then more people were up there today. More people will be going back next week. It's really cool. So the, but our orders ranged anywhere from people just having a bunch of trees in their yard. Like the pictures I sent you, that guy had five trees down in his yard to another person only had one tree, but it was on their house. Big, a wide variety of circumstances that we had to work through. I was impressed by the positivity of everyone and not so much by our group 'cause we were there to help. We were in good shape. We were ready to help. But the positivity of the people who we were helping, it wasn't sad. They weren't depressed. They were uplifted and that was just really neat to see and maybe for the first time in a week felt hope and it was really cool to be a part of someone who was giving them that, to be a part of a group and to be a part of an effort to give those people hope. I mentioned earlier in the episode, so many people had helped out my community when we lived at the coast and it was just really cool to be able to help out this community now. So we saw some really cool things during the day. Even the people we were helping in the morning wanted to chip in and help their neighbors when they saw we moved on to help those houses and they started helping us push and pull things and it was just really great to see these people who were in the middle of their pain being willing to help others who were in pain as well. But the coolest part of the day for me was our last order. We had two houses we were taking care of, but one was this really, it was a very humble trailer at the top of the hill. The landlady had called in, who lived further down the hill, called in the order. So when the family came home from trying to find some supplies, they were really in shock to see these 15 people in yellow shirts trying to clear their road. It was a really big hill, I'd say 400 yards maybe, three to four football field lengths up a pretty steep hill. It was dirt road, it was washed out. So we had to actually hike all our equipment up the hill and we thought it would take the rest of the day, another two hours or so. We cleared that entire hill. There were just trees had fallen all over the place. It was just thick, thick forest that had fallen. And we cleared that entire hill in 25 minutes. Everyone in our work crew was just shocked. The tenants who lived in the place were shocked. None of us thought we could have done it that fast and we did. It was the easiest job of the day. When physically, it may have been our most daunting task. We were just strengthened by the effort we were doing and we were just clicking on all cylinders. And it was pretty beautiful. - Wow. - We asked the family if we could pray with them before we left and they said yes and we didn't. It was a really nice prayer. But then the husband of the family's name's Kim. He asked if he could offer up a prayer as well. And we said sure, and y'all know I've prayed a lot. And I've seen some things and I've felt really strong prayers before. But I don't know if I've witnessed a more beautiful prayer in my life. This man who hasn't been able to get home for several days with his family was offering a prayer asking for us to be comforted and uplifted. And there's something really special about someone who was in pain, offering comfort and energy and strength to someone else who was in less pain than them. And so it was a great day. My body hurts, my joints are achy. I need to take a nap, but my spirit is full. My soul is full, I am happy. And I hope that's something I can remind myself throughout this week and as we go forward and that the rest of the people who are involved in this effort are able to impart to those we're serving as well. - Yeah, that's really impressive to me. I'm trying to picture myself, the person who's ravaged by this hurricane. And it's great, the clearing of the land and the physical stuff you're doing. But to me, the most emotional profound stuff is just the moral support, just the idea of, wow, look at all these dozens and dozens of strangers who are coming here to help us out. - Yeah. - You know, the government didn't send them. You know, their heart sent them. And I just think it's a wonderful thing. - And Greg, that really is how it works, you know? And it's everybody coming together, whether you're from the government, whether you're from the neighborhood, it's being willing to come and be kind to somebody. And I've been thinking a lot. I mentioned some of this on the front end, but hatred and anger, those are choices, but kindness is as well. And I hope that we all can choose just to be a little bit more kind, to look beyond ourselves, to help somebody out. As the biggest lesson I thought was, a lot of times we don't do these things because we feel we can't provide the total solution. And yesterday up on the mountain, I realized we don't have to. We just chipping in and help where we can, 'cause we certainly didn't provide the total solution, but we've provided some, and I'm pretty happy for that. - Yeah, good. And on that, hopefully uplifting note, we're gonna say goodbye, because I was willing to come. All right. - Damn it, Chris. - Okay. - Okay, on that note, thank you, Izzy, for joining us earlier. Thank you for your upcoming nuptials. We look forward to being there if we're invited. And it's a wonderful thing. Thank you, podcast family.
