Genesis 24:5 KJV And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?

Hey, man. Welcome to the program. Welcome to the cafe, pastor Clark Covington. Your Bible teacher here today. You're new to the program. We are a daily Bible study and Every day 15 minutes where we just go through the scriptures. We're working our way from Genesis to Revelation So we're going in order of the books the 66 books and guess what? We're still in book one. Amen. You're early to the show but in all seriousness we are You can look up the podcast. Certainly you can do this on YouTube I'm thinking you can do it on the podcast app and we are a few a Good bit in I think we're like 300 episodes in so there's plenty to listen to but you can go in you can go back and start at Genesis 1 1 and work your way through all the way to where we are now and Even if you listen to like a few two or three episodes a day you'd be caught up and I don't know Four or five months. I don't know but We've got as much as you want. Amen. We have as much Bible study as you want. If you carry spot something Listen to the program. I think you'll learn a lot Lord knows I have just studying for it and we give God all the glory Also, too another reason to return to those early episodes and Genesis Think like the first 10 or 15 episodes of the study this year We have little worksheets that you can there's like a link either in the like the listener notes or on the YouTube show notes And you can click that link visit a page and there's like an interactive worksheet that you can fill out and so forth. So Very cool stuff just helps hammer home visually some of these ideas some of the scriptures and We kind of developed it as an idea of like if you're on your mobile phone, you could easily just while you're listening you could click like Show more information and click that link and kind of toggle through it while you listen. It's kind of like a a Listers companion if you will so those have just started emerging and we've got a few of those on there in the early episodes of this So season one was all just topical preaching and teaching through the Bible 15 minutes at a time And that was last year and then season two and we're literally in a calendar year So like Jan second is when we started season two Jan third right around there is all of this Bible study so if you feel the need you can go back to episode one of season two and Yeah, and you can listen all the way through or just listen here But either way the goal is that this is a starting point for your Bible study And so Lord willing this is the beginning of your Bible study. Okay. All right. So we see in Jen Genesis 24 verse 5 Abraham is asking his servant to go and Get a wife for Isaac his son the chosen son from his homeland and not there in Canaan where they resided and the servant has a doubt he says The woman will not be what what if the woman's not gonna follow me to this land? I mean, it's like sincere doubt I imagine if I was the servant of Abraham and I was going back to the homeland I would think the same thing and I you almost imagine Eliezer the senior servant kind of reflecting on who he was that he looked trustworthy Did he have what he needed? Was he gonna be able to say the right thing, right? But Abraham is bringing this to God. He's saying look God if you look at verse 7 the Lord God of heaven Which took me from my father's house and from the land of my kindred and which spake unto me and swear unto me saying unto I see it'll give this land he shall send his angel before the right so Abraham is giving Eliezer a little bit of history in verse 7 saying God did this God put me here therefore God will do this So bring it into the spiritual and then Another practical question which again will tackle probably in the next episode must I need to bring my son again Onto the land from which thou came is so you know Eliezer's probably got like a idea that he thinks might be a little bit better instead of the woman looking at me Oh, this this just servant this older person Couldn't she just look at the at him and Abraham saying don't do that. Don't you bring him back there? Yeah, this is this is the land that we're gonna be in all right so we are dealing with this push and pull of this kind of Belief or lack thereof and in the consequences of it What we'll do is we'll take a break and we're gonna look at a new testament verse that deals with unbelief and Jesus when we come back So stay tuned. Hey, it's break time around here. Thank you for listening to KJV cafe If you haven't already visit KJV cafe.com for more information So if we look in Matthew 13, okay, Matthew 13 is a big chapter kind of like Genesis 24 is a big chapter But look at the end of Matthew 13, okay Verse 54, okay, so last couple verse here and when he was come into his own country This is Jesus. He taught them in their synagogue in so much that they were astonished and said once had this man This wisdom and these mighty works is not this the carpenter's son Is not his mother called Mary and his brother and James and Joseph's and Simon and Judas and his sisters Are they not all with us once then has this man all these things and they were offended in him But Jesus said unto them a prophet is not without honor save in his own country in his own house And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief and so we see the theme of unbelief Okay, and we see the theme of Prophet never being accepted in his own country We see that he goes to teach in the synagogue and at the time in the Bible times as I understand it The scribes would read the scrolls like literally there'd be scrolls of text and they would read them the modern day example would be like if you went into a temple like this ornate place and you sat down and There was a lawyer that was reading the Bible word for word and then being a lawyer they really were stickler on each word being correct and So forth and that was your service, right? So reading the scrolls, right? there wasn't I don't think a lot of Expounding upon them Movement of the Holy Spirit and all these things I don't know but as I've understood it. That's what was happening That's why they were mystified by this one that spoke with authority So it'd be very controversial if he's in the temple saying yeah, look in this verse and I say yeah, that's me You know, I'm the one that did that truly. I'm here. I'm the son of God like they're like what you know And he's not just reading the scrolls, but he's actually professing Truth from them and also then pointing to himself as being the one and so all of this was very challenging for them And what do they do? They go to the natural Just as Ellie Azers we spoke about in the last episode just to add these natural inclinations to be like well What if this doesn't work, right? They do that here with Jesus. They say is this not the carpenter's son is not his mother called Mary They're starting to look or as she so Jesus was fully God and fully human and and he was sinless So fully God and fully man, right sinless and perfect. Okay, they can't point anything out in him So what do they do? They start pointing out Mary and the carpenter, right? His dad Joseph and then his brothers Right and his sisters because them they would have been flawed, right? And is it not true, you know, like I haven't been back to where I grew up in forever But I can't imagine anyone taking me serious that knew me as a child as a Wild child as a you know, all this stuff, right? Not not not an example of like Young godly obedience by any means I can't imagine they would just like wait the same guy You know that was jumping on top of the school bus roof or whatever, right that guy that saying those things do it Oh, you're you're a man of God, right? See it is the same idea. Okay, that There's unbelief there and man is turning to the practical But what I want you to see from this is not not so much that principle though That's very fascinating and I remember asking older saints of God What does it mean and then a prophets never without honor save in his own country and that's a whole other message What we kind of touched on here But what I want you to see is the how this thing ends how it's punctuated in Matthew 13 verse 58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief So we see the fruit of unbelief is a lack of working from God a Fruit of unbelief is we're not seeing marvelous works of God and so the idea here is in order to really see God move We have to have faith, right? We have to have faith. I know that sounds simple and maybe even cliche or repetitive for some But yet we all desire to see God move and often we just keep turning to the world We keep turning to the practical isn't this so-and-so's person or whatever, right? Isn't this this, you know, whatever it may be you know When we you read about the great men and women of God and the old and you know old days, right? You read these biographies of missionaries and I love reading the biographies of hymn writers is incredible Some of the things that God brings them through as they write these beautiful beautiful hymns You know, they're not likely people right they don't fit that mold Like if you were to analyze them practically intellectually, you may say I don't think so, you know You look at Fanny Crosby. She can't see. Oh, that's gonna be one of the greatest hymn writers of all time I'm not not sure about that, you know On and on right you look at Brother Moody, right? It's a Dwight L. Moody. I hope I'm saying it right kind of drew blank there right he was unlearned, you know He was he was essentially Kicked out of his house, right? Became one of the greatest evangelists of all time really set the pattern for the revival movement that we would see later on with people like Billy Graham Traveled overseas. It's winning souls and sophisticated Europe and so forth. Just an incredible incredible evangelist You look at the Moody Bible Institute Moody publishers and all this that came from his ministry And he does all this in 62 years as an unlearned man, right? You'd say, well, I just don't know And so here is the point. God will use the base things of this world to confound the wise, right? He'll use the base things of this world to confound the wise and he does this to show us that we need to have faith I can tell you myself only way I can reckon God would call me to any kind of ministry Is because I would be one of the base things of this world, amen? And if he could use me he could use you amen and he's going to get the glory whatever God does through this ministry Whatever he has done. He's going to get the glory because guess what it couldn't be done by me. Amen 1 Corinthians 1 27 through 31, but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise And God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty And base things of the world that things which are despised That God chosen yay and the things which are not to bring to not the things that are that no flesh should glory in his presence But of him are you in Christ? Jesus who have God has made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption That according as it is written he that gloryeth let him glory in the lord That is the truth We are the glory in God And we could never be puffed up before God as man Because again, he will use the simplest things to confound You know the those that think there's something or someone right You know, he'll take a babe in Christ. He'll take a little literal child And bring a truth through that child that even the most sophisticated Phd could never ever come to terms with And God will do that so that we all understand our form and our need for faith And so when we have faith, can you imagine if Matthew 13 was kind of flipped on its head And he did many mighty works because of their great belief in him. That's not what it says, okay But can you imagine the inverse, right? I always like to do that. Look at the inverse So the scripture says and he did not many mighty works because of their unbelief It says verbatim and he did not many mighty works there where in his hometown because of what their unbelief, right? And so because of their unbelief, he couldn't do much. He wouldn't do much because they didn't believe So if we do believe, oh what God can do whether it is to bring the wife of The chosen line to Isaac in his land that God had given him rather than going back Isaac going back to his country to convince her Through the servant whether it's that Dealing with tricky old laban and everything else whatever it may be. Is it too hard for God? It is not And so in our lives as we Pray to God and seek God to have a mighty work in our life Whether it's in the ministry in our family In in school and work and in whatever a particular way We have to believe Hebrews 11 6 tells us it's impossible to please God without faith because we have to believe that he is and a rewarder of them that diligently seek him So once we believe in God and have faith We're then blessed and who better a picture of this than Abraham who was justified by faith Who believed in God who spoke authoritatively to Eliezer saying you go down there and you get Uh, you get Rebecca basically you go down there and you get a wife for Isaac and it will be done this way You promise promise me you're going to do it because it will be done You see that's the faith of Abraham and we can have that kind of faith when we simply believe God at his word Okay, tune in next time. Thank you so much for listening. Take care. God bless and amen Thanks for listening to kjv cafe and we'll see you at the cafe tomorrow
