(upbeat music) - From the Ramona Radio Studios, it's the Travis Billy Ross Outlaw Country Show. - All right, we're here, we're live. We're doing it live. Welcome to the Travis Billy Ross Outlaw Country Show. Happy Sunday, everybody. Hope you all had a good week. We're gonna hang out. We've got a special guest, but with me as always. How are you guys? - Good, welcome to the show. - So happy to be here. - Very well, thank you. - You got the appropriate amount of beverage in front of you. - I do, good. - Like I said, this is reflective of my life. I have coffee right next to a mimosa. (laughing) - We love it. - Where's that going on? - I have everything I need. - Except a guitar, you hand me a guitar and then life is gonna be-- - There's one right there. - There's one right there. (laughing) - It's beautiful. - Got a little fender thing. So how are you doing, Miranda? What's going on with your musica? - Musica, we just released a new single on October 18th. So it's called "Waste Your Time." And it's about really mean people. - Is that a good song? - Yeah, like how you gotta get over the BS and how a lot of us wanna be petty sometimes when people are mean to us, but you just gotta let it go, man. And like move on and moving on is the best revenge. Like don't actually take revenge, just move the hell on and don't even give him the time of day. That's what this song's about. It's about reclaiming your own self worth. - Okay. - I always love that mantra. You're like, "Oh, you're pissed?" "Huh, anyway, I wonder what's going on." (laughing) You know? - I'm gonna look over here now. Yeah. - It frustrates people when they don't engage with their anger. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - I know. - I'm angry, be angry with them. - Yeah, you're fine. - And I love that I wrote this about so many people that like they're all gonna think it's about them. - Yes. - Can you relate, yes, you suck. - That's true. - Is that a lyric in the song? If you think this song's about you, you're probably right. (laughing) - I'm writing on Carly's side. - All right, you probably think this song is about you. You're probably right. (laughing) - I'm writing on Carly's side. - All right, you probably think this song is about you. (laughing) - Not so many, but is she wrong though? I mean, it's about some of them. - Yeah. Damn, you're fast. See, that was faster. - There we go. - You pulled that up in like 3.2 seconds. (laughing) All right, so I know that you won an award. - I won two awards. I thought it was just one. - Okay. (laughing) - So I know, I was-- - That was my surprise. - It was the, what, the same Diego-- - She's like listen to this. - I was just a surprise. Yes, San Diego Magazine named me best singer, songwriter of 2024, and then thereafter, I was also named country musician of the year for 2024. I was like mind blown, honestly. I released one song in March, and then I got nominated for these awards, which I didn't even know about, 'cause usually, I mean, we are pretty vain as musicians. Like, we're gonna push our own agenda, so usually we would like, hey, I'm gonna put myself in for this, but I had no idea, so someone after the fact it had already been open for voting for a week, and someone's like, hey, did you even know about this? I'm like, no. - Oh, that's funny. - So I missed a whole week of voting, and I still freakin' won, only because I have freakin' Ramona on my side. Everybody in Ramona showed up, and so I take zero credit. It was all Ramona that showed up and voted for me, so thank you all. - This is your song, though, yeah? You wrote it and everything? - Oh, yeah. - Yeah, take credit. What the hell? - Yeah, I wrote that song. - I wrote that shit. - Yeah, which is probably the only love song I'm ever gonna write, so enjoy it while it allows 'cause now I'm just pissed off. (all laughing) - Now you're gonna go full Miranda Lamorton, go crazy. No, no, no, no. - My next song is called The Only Men I Need, so get ready for that, yeah. - I've heard you do this song live. - I have been waiting, waiting, and waiting for the song. - I hope it's like Jack and Jose. - And I'm not gonna give the song away, but let me know when you need those guitars. - Yes, 'cause I'm gonna do a music video for that one, I'm pretty darn sure, so I need your expensive guitars because, you know, I can't, I have two of the three that I need, but I need one more. - Just need the G-word one. - We definitely have at least one of those. - I have one of those. - In our 27 guitars hanging in my living room. - I'm not even out. - It's been pretty close to 12, something like that. - Solid 12. - I'll have one one day, it'll happen for me one day, but I gotta fall in love with it first, so you can't spend all that money unless you fall in love with the instrument. - Yeah. - No, that's not sure Travis will spend all the money, 'cause he'll, we'll just be looking at whatever and he sees a guitar. He's like, I need that, I'm like, do you though? We have 20 of them. - It happens. - But I don't have a tailor, I don't have a fender, they don't have those, it's always the brain. I don't have this. - You know what I don't have? I don't have a, what are those ones? What's the one that Ashley has? - I don't know. - Oh God. - It's like a big hollow body one, I can't think of it right now. - Is that her dog? - You don't have one of them though? Your mom, and she'll probably let you borrow it, so we don't have to buy one. - Your mom probably has one. - Yeah, again, she'll probably let you borrow it. She doesn't know what to do with it. - So, Miranda, me and Sweet Cribs, we do your mom jokes all the time, so that's what that was about. - Please don't be offended. - I do, that's what she said jokes a lot. It's very important. - Travis, every other conversation we have is something as, oh, you know what else? Your mom. - My daughter started doing that, that's what she said jokes when she was about 11. I went, stop, what are you doing? What, wait, what? - No, it's my mom, I love his mom, so it's fair. - So, Miranda, you got any gigs coming up? - I do, so I'm doing some private stuff, so I can't announce those, 'cause no one gets to come to those sadly. But on November 7th, I am going to be doing my third annual Veteran's Day Golf Tournament at Carlton Oaks Golf Course, and all the money raised goes towards veterans. - And where's that golf course? - Carlton Oaks and Santee. - Oh, I know where that is. - Yeah, so it still has a few slots open, it always fills up, so if you're interested in golfing and raising money for a great cause, please come. I will be there all day, serving you drinks for-- - You're gonna be serving? - I serve drinks for free all day. - Are you singing and drink and serving? - Well, I sing before I drink, usually. Are you driving around with the beverage cart? - I do have my own golf cart. Yeah, I drive around with Dino's Pub, so we have drinks made on the back, so I kick it off in the morning with, we do a flyover, it's really fancy. Like, we have tons of planes that fly over, World War planes, I'm not gonna get all specific, 'cause I don't even know. But we have a big flyover while I'm singing the National Anthem, it's all like very like touchy-feely. Yeah, it's super cool. - That's cool. - And then all day, I volunteer my time, and I'll just be serving you guys drinks. I come out on the golf course to your tea, and I will give you drinks, and so I'll be there all day, having a great time. - Maybe she'll sing to you too out there. - Yeah, I mean, I can bring you a guitar, and we could do some like acoustic little, you know, sets on the green. - It's a fundraiser, so people should-- - They should buy tickets. - They should buy. They should pay to have you sing to them on the golf cart. - Yes, get your $20 ready, and your song list. - That's so true. - Yeah, we could do like a mariachi style-type thing. Go up to the golf cart, don't get out of that golf cart yet. - I'm my brockas. - We're gonna play you a sock. (laughing) - It's always a good time, so come on out. I've been doing it with three, this will be my third year, and they've invited me back every year, so I guess I'm doing acceptable things. - Something's doing all right. - Yeah. - I have a real bad habit of turning golf into a drinking game. - I think most people do. That's why we go to the teas, and I get kind of offended when people turn down or drink some like, "Excuse me, are you sure?" "Sure, you don't want this free drink, right?" - Do you wanna golf shitty, or do you wanna golf better? 'Cause I have a bloody Mary for you. - Yeah, or more you drink the-- - Gonna take two strokes off your golf game. - The more you drink, the less you care, what kind of-- - And the better Miranda's guitar playing sounds. - Yes. - Don't forget that part. It's more you drink, the better we sound, so drink up. (laughing) - Yeah, so come on out, and then after that, I have a big announcement for Ramona. - This is the big announcement. - This is the big one. - Right now, you're gonna announce it right now? - Yeah. - I know. - Well, you asked me about upcoming games. - All right, yeah, ladies and gentlemen. - So, we've played at Ramona Ranch Winery a few times, but unfortunately, the owners were not allowed to be there because they were out doing awesome things. So, this last time when I played there, they were there, and they were having a great time, and Terry comes up to me at the end, and she goes, "Miranda, we absolutely loved what she did. Would you be willing to come back for a recurring gig?" - Yay! - So, now, I'm gonna be at Ramona Ranch Winery, the first Sunday of every month, and we will be starting that December 1st. - Beautiful. - That's awesome. - Oh, yeah. - I'm excited, that's cool. - Yeah. - That's awesome, baby. - What do they call that when you get, like, this reoccurring, it's called a residency. - Residency. - Residency. - Residency. - Oh, man, take me to Vegas, baby. - I know, it's very crucial, that's pretty cool. - Mandalay Bay calling next. (laughing) - So, how long have you been playing, singing and doing music stuff? - Formally, so I've been singing my whole life, but, like, and, you know, I was in cool, like, music theater and stuff like that, but I'm a very shy person, naturally, so I wasn't all about, like, hey, let me be in front of people that are looking at me. That was not my jam. Until, I think, I got a little older, and I just started not giving a-- - Yeah. - You know what, about-- - You didn't say shit. - Okay, yeah, I didn't give a shit about what people thought anymore, and I was like, I like to do this, and if I'm good at it, I'm good at it, and if people like it, even better, right? So, I decided about, I'm going on six years now, but I was like, gonna do this thing. So, I got on, you know, a website that kind of connects you with band members, and somebody reached out and wanted to meet with me, and so I joined a rock band for a little while, and then, as I know-- - I'd seen you singing that, what was the name of the group? - It was the name Hindsight. - Yes, Hindsight, yeah, that was like my first band, and then, you know, the ebb and flow of everything, and then I joined a country cover band, which countries where my heart is, and so, that lasted for a while, and then I was like-- - Was that branded? - Mm-hmm, that was branded, and then I left-- - I think that's where I first saw you. You were at the barn. - That's what you said, you guys at the barn, yeah. - And then, I think you guys, a bunch of Mona people, 'cause we used to play over at Mollies as well, on a regular basis, so we'd be at Mollies, and a lot of people came out, and that's how I met kind of the Ramona music alliance, that's how you guys kind of adopted me, and even though I wasn't really like a Ramona person, I don't live here, I wish I did. - You're close enough, you're-- - Yeah, like I'm adopted. Ramona adjacent. - Ramona adjacent. - What is that, Considered Lakeside? - Yeah, I'm like, I consider myself South-Pow-ey. - South-Pow-ey fair enough? You could say Lakeside, I grew up in Lakeside. - I mean, you look just hills, so-- - You look just hills, okay. - Yeah, I feel like, it's a good little area, so I'm about like a half hour away, isn't it? - But, but Miranda, no matter what's going on at Ramona, she's always here, so. - Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. - Oh, and I finally get to come on Mondays again. Oh man, Mondays are my favorite, so yeah, with music, so, and then, gosh, sorry, I get distracted. - It's all right. - Oh, that's my ADHD going. So then I was like, you know, it was hard doing the same thing over and over and over again and not changing it, so then I said, I'm gonna take a break from this and wanna see if I can write my own music, and that's when I met Doug Walker and Ashley E Norton, and Doug Walker was like, he read some of the stuff that I'd written, 'cause I said, I don't really know how to be a musician, so I write things down and I think it's like, I want it to be a song, but it's more like a poem at this point, so I sent it over to Doug and he goes, you're absolutely a songwriter. He goes, I'm gonna set you up with Ashley Norton, and you guys are gonna take this poem, and she's gonna compose and you're gonna song. And I met with Ashley the very first day we spent an hour and we wrote "Whole," and I literally cried on the way home. I called my mom, I'm on my way from Ashley's house, and I'm crying on the phone, I'm like, "Mom, we wrote a real song, it's a real song!" And literally, it was so emotional to go from this cover band singer to like, I can be a songwriter, and Ramona gave me that feel of acceptance and like empowerment to be able to do that. It was really cool, so then I've been doing the singer-songwriter thing, and I got music in the pocket ready to come out too, so it's even better. - That's awesome. - Yeah, Ramona's a great community, especially the music community. So who inspires you? Music, what famous musician inspires you to write? - You're never gonna believe this, but my answer is Billy Joel. - Billy Joel? - I think he's the best songwriter of our time. - ♪ Play me a song, you're the piano man ♪ - Yeah, every song sounds different. - ♪ Play me a song tonight ♪ - Yeah, he's very, he's very eclectic as an artist. - Oh yeah. - And he's very broad-ranged. - Yeah, I like New York State of Mind. That's a good song that he did. - I like all of them, and I grew up listening to him because my dad was a big fan. - Up town girl. - Oh. - Christie Brinkley. - Yeah, you are never Christie Brinkley. - Yeah, literally, you can name a song, and I can like sing along with it. I know the Billy Joel cover band, Billy Nation, is here in San Diego. They are phenomenal. If you get a chance to go see them, huge fan. Friends of everybody in the band. Last time I saw them, they brought me up for Uptown Girl, which was super amazing. - Wow, that's cool. - So I got to sing with them and perform, and so they're just great people too. So Billy Joel's absolutely my songwriting hero 'cause he could just, he could write about anything, and he wrote different melodies, and nothing sounded the same. And I feel like sometimes, you know, musicians these days, like a song comes on, you're like, "Oh, I know who that is." - Yeah. - Again, sounds exactly the same. And he wasn't like that. So that's my songwriting hero. - That's cool, right on. - Well, I'm gonna hear Miranda songs. - I wanna hear her latest release. - All right, let's hear it. - Is that okay? - Yeah, let's talk about mean people. - Let's do it. What's the song called? - Let's get a replay of it. - Let's go waste your time. - Waste your time. All right, let's hear it.
