Good morning everybody. Happy Monday. So relaxing weekend for us not a relaxing weekend for everyone else This is the second bi week where chaos just broke loose and we got to sit back and watch it That's a lot of fun. So we'll definitely be discussing that on today's show But first we want to talk about Texas returning from the buy and what do we want to see specifically versus Florida? What did we clean up in the buy? What do we need to do for this back half of the SEC schedule? And then we will talk to latest AP poll and that's when we can argue about the SEC race Is it even good to be in the SEC championship? Is it better to be a fifth seed? blah blah blah we'll get your opinions and we'll talk kind of back and forth there and as always your questions can take us off topic at any point So feel feel free to interject whenever you feel you have something you want to offer us y'all boys enjoy sitting back and watching the chaos I love bi weeks in general when they're boring You know, it's nice to get a weekend off spend some time with the families just a little bit There was a lot of football on so, you know, what's got, you know, not like we did a whole lot other than watch football But yeah, it's a time for us to decompress just like the players and actually get a better field for the overall landscape You know when the on game days for Texas I don't get to see nearly as much after record a lot of games and watch them in the week But it's nice to just just channel surf And actually get an idea for, you know, which players like I had no idea the Penn State defensive end was that damn good? Like I knew it was good. Yeah, I didn't know that either But you could see he got a false start or not a false start He got it off sides and you could see the NFL player just on the off sides I'm like damn he got off the ball so quick But just just being able to sit back and enjoy the games and watch them in a more detailed manner Then then we normally do on game day was a lot of fun and then of course chaos rained And you know, that was fun. We got the nice re night cap with an M and in the South Carolina It was funny to see Texas fans react just like there like Texas was playing I can't watch this cuz an M was coming back in the first half a lot of guys switching games And then and then and then totally no show the second half, but yeah Saturday was awesome Yeah, I was I was out of chilies just like eyes glued to it like trying to pay attention to my wife But it was right in my view Washington, Texas A&M coach. What did you think this week? We got to be fans again. Yeah. Yeah, I enjoyed I thought come get three upsets I was rooting for the black bears of Maine man. They went up seven nothing. I was celebrating hard That was good, I thought photos go knock off George. I was like, okay, you know, they got a shot here So I enjoyed that one and then of course, I love since South Carolina be A&M and that was a that's the thing of beauty I like when he finished him and that was perfect. Hey Homer. Did you get the Southwest egg rolls? I Did not my wife is a is a triple dipper enthusiast. I'm more of a smokehouse combo guy myself, dude Yeah, all right. Yeah, the Southwest egg rolls are good. Yeah, I'm going to fill these in years But man, you know, you you cover recruiting your end up in the chilies working from the bar time or two. Yeah Diego Pavia once again owns these three three wins in three years and he controls the state of Alabama now I didn't get to watch that game. Did y'all get to watch it? I didn't see any of it I mean, it's a huge free offense in 2024. So I wasn't, you know, Peyton Thorne is a quarterback. It's tough to watch but this was the least embarrassing Lost to Diego Pavia Pavia that he freezes had He's had Vanderbilt and a SEC team as opposed to what was your last year as a New Mexico state, right? So Yeah, not nearly as embarrassing. Do you see his postgame? He was like, I'm here for easy. He's like I'm so tired of that quarterback like jokingly But he was very honest. He's like mad that guy's a competitor. Did you see they only had like 250 totally yards? Vanderbilt did so they got him on Vandy ball again. So really Diego Pavia owns the state of Alabama right now He should run for government with election day running coming up tomorrow Yeah, they're They're what 23rd 24th now. So we got a quality win against them They're the real deal, man But also I feel like not Tim Beck who's the coach that came over from New Mexico state I feel like they have a shadowhead coach and that's how they're doing this. Oh Jerry Q Jerry kill Yeah, because they show he shows up as a like advisor to the head coach and now suddenly like they're winning I'm like, man. You got like a deep state head coach. That's weird, man It's the best identity match to talent Probably in the in the country right now as at least I was outside of the guys that are top like you talk about identity match the talent Like Michigan was a perfect example last year And you match it to scheme and that's how a lot of the big 12 teams had had success in the past years They would match their team identity to the skill and the talent and the schemes gary Patterson arbriles Uh leech attack, of course, you know, and their team identity is perfectly matched to it They play their ball and you've got to get them out of their comfort zone Which texas did for you know much of the game, but not not not like they wanted to Is this probably his last year of eligibility? Yeah, I'm pretty sure but uh, I mean they should just let the guy keep playing because he's entertaining Like that's true. Yeah, they shouldn't be but that's where I feel like there's kind of uh There's they can be flashing a pan right? I don't know if they can sustain this without pavia and also if kill um And then um, why am I missing out on their oc now chin back? Tim back. Yeah, if they get poached, it's it'll be interesting trying to see them sustain this at vanderbell Yeah, gary kill was a good coach in minnesota, but had the seizure issues. Is that what it was? There All right, let's talk texas, florida first and then we'll we'll circle back and talk about the fifth seed and like the actual value of The rankings and all that stuff So i've been able to break down florida. You guys watch georgia florida, which I think will give you a good kind of basis to talk here Um first things first man dj lagway going down brutal, man Yeah, they come out and said did terris hamstring that he it was obviously a hamstring injury the the field looked pretty bad A lot of people were struggling with it. Um, yeah, have they said the severity? I I mean imagine he'll be out, uh, which is Unfortunate. Yeah, I love that kid. That kid. He's just a great great great solid solid person You could tell by the way he's stuck with his commitment. Um, even though florida had their issues what kind of character he has Um, the elementary school in the in willis is named after his grandmother Uh for what she had done in the community. He comes from that sort of family So it's tough to see and obviously he had them in the game Um, you know, I think they had a much better obviously had a much better chance of winning if had he stay on but The interesting thing to me was georgia reverted back to the team that we saw pretty much the entire season outside of that one night and decay Yeah, of course Whoever looked like the team that had everybody predicting texas to beat them Um, you know karson beck had tons of of of bat had, you know, three interceptions could have more Uh, he threw in a triple coverage a number of times same, you know, three interceptions like he had against texas The defense wasn't on the same page. Uh safety got beat deep over the top Uh losing his eyes. They just didn't play nearly the same game that they played against texas So now we're feeling back to hey, hopefully they get to see texas in the in the scc championship again just like that But uh, yeah georgia did not look good. Uh, and florida played with a lot of heart they lost their two corners Uh, and they they still played good defense Um, you know, they ran the ball decently well, but they you know that that team looks like a lot more It's a lot more cohesive and organized than they were to start the season Yeah, dude. Did you see that portion where it's like they're secondary got cursed So they like they had starting nickel go down. That was actually their third corner. They went down So they're down three corners. They had uh de jon. What is it john johnson? Uh more was on crutches and then their starter marshal who was their best corner went out versus tinnessee So they had three corners go down. They had Uh casteel their safety go down. He came back in but it was insane, man Like their secondary just got totally butchered there out of nowhere a lot of guys came back But they're going to be hurting in the secondary as well really hurt them too on that one of the biggest plays of the game was on Uh, kormani mcclean who's very talented Uh, athletically and physically was very highly rational. He was a five star went to a lot in the basteron Not sure he has it between the years, but he gave up way too much cushion had a huge completion to pretty much steal the game Uh, so those injuries manifested on the field on defense as well as offense, but you know, they're they're starting to get their running game going a little bit Um, you know, I don't i'm not really worried about them. They're so limited on offense now with the the the yield transfer Aiden warner at quarter back now. It's like like he and said it's like rolling colord out no offense colord But it's you know, not going to not going to threaten the number one past defense in the country Um, so this game is going to be all about how texas moves the ball Um, you know, obviously they're going to see their share of blitzes You know what texas has on tape struggling with is exactly what florida's going to test Yep, and they've got the athletes and they've got some physicality on defense I'm really looking forward to watching the defense versus texas offense Yeah, that's so that's a big key for me. So they're a huge pressure team mostly simulated right We've been struggling with that picking that up on the offensive line and it's been stressing quin out The but what they'll do when they simulate that pressure then they immediately drop to those hot routes to those hook curl zones and stuff So you got to be wary of throwing a interception Um, and then no they're split field, but they also like cover three and cover three is what vandy did that completely shut down our deep and Intermediate passing game. So and also guess what they like to fire fire the nickel on a nickel points Yeah, so these are literally everything they do is what texas is struggled with offensively. Yeah, it's kind of good that texas Probably won't need to score more than 11 points to win, but you know, it's uh, it's going to be a good test Yeah, almost not all Florida is though. I want to see how motivated they are like they got up to play jointer I saw robbery, but I want to see how motivated they are to come in and play against texas I mean, I'm sure they'd be fired up because everybody gets texas the best shot I mean texas to get everybody best shot, but you know, they were extra motivated last week I want to see if they can continue that going throughout the season though, especially without Yeah, I wasn't really buying them. I think they were on a three-game win streak going into that one I wasn't really paying attention to him because they just been such a discombobulated mess Uh, but they they look like they're playing hard for napier and this rivalry game But I think they're going to come in fired up now if you if you land a couple shots early They might you know a couple body blows early they might give in but I think they're going to come out fired up and ready to go Texas gonna have to take the life. I don't take the air out of them Yeah, that's one thing if you watch their season from the beginning to now It's been an uptrend Um, and they've gotten better and the culture really like you said they're still playing hard This isn't a team that like you can tell when they hate their coach. It doesn't seem like that's the case Yeah, right exactly. I think they're playing hard for napier. Um, then they've got a long road to go there You feel I feel terrible for them. I you know I had sympathy for for napier throughout that game Uh, just with the injuries mounting on top of having the nation's tough of schedule It's just a real and you got people calling for your head But then you're watching them Yeah, how hard the team's playing for them and you're hoping that the people that make the decisions about his future are monitoring that You know if the team keeps playing hard for them I would I would keep them around and figuring to keep showing improvement like this You can show improvement and not that come across in the win loss column. I thought the defense should a lot of improvement on saturday Yeah, I agree. I think napier. I would give them another year Um, especially with lagway going down. I mean, what are you supposed to do? So as long as they're playing sound like their assignment stuff is good their execution and they're Getting up for games. Give them one more year. Yeah Florida is actually with lagway too because if if they get rid of napier everybody in the world's coming after lagway Yeah, yeah, that's easy Florida is actually playing good in comparison to the expectations I agree toughest schedule and cfb and only lost the top teams at this point Yeah, and if you watch the kentucky game man, they Lagway man. So lagway is the best deep passing quarterback in the nation Um, but if you look at him in the sec He's the second to worse intermediate passer and the worst short passer. So he it is literally I'm throwing bombs. He's not getting off of first reads. He has the highest average depth of target He's looking at wide receiver one and he's throwing it and he but he's dude. He's completing like 65 deep That's like unheard of Yeah, you know, he's from willis willis gave a gave the world Michael bishop and Michael bishop played the same way It's I talked to bishop in the spring. He's coaching Uh in houston and I said, you know, I remember watching the game We had eight completions, but for like 325 yards And he told me the exact game what what it was and that's kind of exactly how lagway is he but he can threaten you with the legs too. So that you know, that sort of takes care of that that creates the space his legs help him create space for the arm He's got a huge arm and he's he's a tough guy to bring down once he gets running too Well, and they're running game, dude. You have to keep the safeties back versus him But now you don't Like if i'm texas, they're gonna have to run right to get that young quarterback comfortable. Oh, man I'm playing I don't even I might play cover zero. Yeah What feast on the attacking? Have like eight nine tackles watch. Well, I mean he would if you played you know more snaps, but Yeah, taffa's gonna live around the lunch scrimmage Yeah, there's not a lot of It's not going to be hard defensively to game plan for a third string quarterback And he's very inconsistent. I think he was completely like what 30 something percent versus Georgia And like two times he threw a ball and I was like, oh, okay, like he all right But every other time he could not be consistent with his feet So he so he can throw a nice ball when everything works out But things don't work out often enough for him to be I they're gonna have to get tricky with it. It's going to have to be like tied in leek screens like very lateral stuff. It's gonna They're not going to have a full playbook to work with here So I don't really know what you do against texas in that situation the number one defense in the country and dfi I want four days to prepare it. That's gonna be tough Yeah, coach. What are you even doing these situations when you guys are in the room that week? It's like we just got to show heart. It's moral victory week. Like what do you do? No, you're gonna try to game plan to win, but Like we're gonna lean on a running game. It's we just saw we can do we go try to minimize the mistakes that his quarterback may make Um, I'll be interested to see if they try to give him some confidence earlier Maybe like when he came in against Georgia, he took a deep shot, right? It was very very first throw And maybe they try to give him some confidence and say hey give us the threat of we can we can throw the ball deep Try to back us up so they can run more but it's gonna be tough I think it's gonna be a lot of quick screens Get the ball to the running back try to rotate me and running back as you can Take the ball away from Texas. That's gonna be the biggest day. Yeah, they can't turn it over Uh, they're probably gonna spend a whole day working on trick place, you know double passes and stuff You know try to get Texas cheating with their eyes But yeah, I noticed that too a very very first play you expect them to just do a simple dive handoff or something They let him let it rip and he he does have a pretty good arm. He made a couple throws as as Homer said Um, but you know, he also had about four balls that should have been picked As well. So he's uh, you know, they're living by the sword dying by the sword They at least we're trying to win the game with the backup So If they come into Texas that same mindset, it's probably not going to go well for them that game is probably going to be over in the first half but Um, they want to make it ugly. You know, you know, vandy game planning, you know, just run it as most as they can You know, don't turn it over. Texas beat got vandy three times when they would only turn it over twice the entire year Uh floor is you know, they're backs against the wall. I wish lagway would have been healthy for obvious reasons But also it would have been a better test for Texas Their first string back was hurt too. Um, I think he'll be back and then web another back and their rotation was also out Um, so we'll see if they get those two backs back as well. It's uh, it's been tricky, man Because they've had to be starting that that freshman uh running back Yeah Yeah, and uh, and so that they just spent it's been tough for florida I don't you can't accurately about firing napier here would have to be because it's something behind the scenes Or you guys are just getting antsy because there's no you can't evaluate a coach under these circumstances I think the one credible critique right now is recruiting and recruiting is kind of a function You know the last year to uh, um, and and a lot of the uncertainty around his job. You can't you can't recruit if everybody's To call uh, senior on the hot seat. Uh, so recruiting is a big problem that they have He's in a tough spot, but I I do hope that you know Lagway hopefully lagway comes in plays a couple games You know wide receiver you're going to want to play with him a lot of a lot of high school is we want to play with him They might be able to To improve that class down the stretch, but now he said he napiers in a really bad spot Yeah, that's pretty brutal And then also too we interestingly enough sarks face this this group before he's face Rob sale and he's face napier when they are at louisiana Um, so that'll be interesting too to see pk's face them So I want to see because they're pro style offense. I mean they'll do they'll do 13 personnel I mean they'll put a bunch of tight ends out there. They'll get big Um, it's not some like cute little offense. I mean it's a pro style offense And I think sale was with the giants or something a few years ago Uh prior to louisiana, maybe i'm wrong there, but Uh, it's a pretty good offense and the coaches are at least familiar enough with each other a couple years ago But before we keep going y'all let's hear a word from the one and only andrey This video is brought to you by andrey the lawyer If you're injured trust the team that secured millions for their clients and help thousands of texans with their injury case Car wrecks slip and falls 18 wheeler accidents on the job injuries and wrongful deaths Don't let insurance tell you what your claim is worth higher andrey the lawyer to fight for you Principal offices in dallas, but they serve texans throughout the state So don't wait and call andrey the lawyer today at 214 444-8808. That's 214-444-8808. The contact information is in the description Thank you. I'll see What do y'all think the o-line worked on during uh doing this by week? so me and ean broke down a lot of the run game last wednesday show And uh Our offensive line is just doing really bad on getting on double teams and staying on double teams with each other They're losing solo blocks too, but it's just not very well coordinated right now to be honest And guys aren't like winning. So I hope they're just Sounds like a cop-out, but it really at this point we need fundamentals. It was a fundamentals week You know trading blocks is a big part of the issues on outside zone as Ian has been mentioning Uh, I would throw blitz pickup as being a big point of emphasis with the running backs That's not a line, but it's all tied together Yeah, it was a back-to-basics week for the offensive line that you know the run game They're going to stick with the run concepts that they've been running They don't think there's an issue with those necessarily. They're designed to work. They've worked in the past They're just not doing a great job of getting their blocks mainly on the right side of the line And certain schemes are working better than others. You know, I think when when you see the guards pulling The gap schemes, I think tend to work better, especially with these running backs zone is more of based on feel and vision And you know gap skiing kind of puts you on the train tracks You know where to go as a running back or at least where the lane should be But it was more what we heard is uh on offense pretty much offense across the board Was they're trying to restore confidence run game and quarterback and it was back to basics week Yeah, that's a good point. I was about to say the exact same thing when she was back to basics Opens line and running backs working together on blitz pickup Probably seeing a lot more non-09 or extended periods during those times because you got you have nobody to be game playing for it So it's like hey old line work this half side of line work the left side of line, right Working on blitz pickups and working on double team get to the second level get into the line back because I see a lot of times Just watching games They're not getting to the second level like I said, but when they make contact They're not even moving their feet sometimes, right, you know, so you're not really driving guys So just getting back to those basics up You got to put out the old planks the old boards and chop you keep going down the board whatever it takes You know to get your mind back right and focus on finishing blocks. So I'm pretty sure that's what they did this week What do you think too about handling the simulated stuff because I mean very rarely or I mean teams send five But they're we're not getting a lot of all-out blitzes. It's a mental game that we're losing on a lot at the time Yeah, that's a lot of board work watching film and drawing it up Right and making people get up there and walk you through and talk it through us Make sure they actually understand before going out on the field So I'm pretty sure they got some board working in classroom with them went outside and went through a lot of simulated pressures Almost like you do in fall camp so to speak, right? You throw a bunch of things at the office line and run it back if they can pick it up and see what they're good at And say, okay, this is where we're good at. This is where we're not good at. Let's work. Let's focus on this and That's kind of what kind of what you do. Well, we know is it's not a Jake majors issue He grades out highly every week So, you know, it's the guys around him. I think are having some mental breakdowns. We're running back to the name We're mentioning a lot on blitz pickup being a big issue. We've all seen that with our own eyes, but Yeah, they just gotta get them playing better. They, you know, they've got the talent. Uh, they know what to do. They just got to execute it Yeah, I haven't I haven't had an issue with Jake once Um, what I'm seeing is Jake on a double team leading the double team in the right guard just putting his hand on Jake and not climbing to the second level Um repeatedly, so it's like That right side of the line is what we need to be on a watch out for. Yes. Let Ian get his victory lap He has been calling for Clemson to get exposed for a while. He's not on here, but he was dead on Yeah, I think on deep dive. I can't remember it was Wednesday or deep dive, but we mentioned Clemson He was like they will fall soon and they went down immediately Do you know what he's looking at? Yeah, that Ian curse I noticed georgia started calling short passes in the second half after Beck's three picks and what's successful Guess we know what sark is going to do Oh, man. I don't know what's going on with Beck man. That's a weird that's a weird regression I have no clue. I got a gay NFL guy, right? Like objective first round start the year like he's regressed so much or maybe he never was That what they said he was honestly, right? He's not good enough receivers Yeah, he locks on and he seems to lock on on one guy and sometimes that guy's running over the middle of field with a safety Two safeties and a linebacker on i'm like a couple times you threw in a blade and triple covers There wasn't even a window. It wasn't a tight window. There wasn't no window existed And he's just trying to rip it in there and it's it's not it never had a chance. I don't know. It's really weird He has questions about his team leadership to whenever i was doing the georgia breakdown listening to some georgia people Um, he's not a very like active leader and then you'll even watch like during that game There were fans of them just being like he just goes and and sits on the bench and mopes Like no one's even around him. You know, so there's also some like Leadership questions. I guess with him. There's an overall quarterback issue in the world Uh nfl and college. Yeah, I agree. There's no really, you know, the most exciting young quarterback is are They're struggling. You know, um, you've got Nikko hasn't exactly set the world on fire at a good game the other day, but he's definitely a year away Uh, dylan rael has had some struggles. He's also looked like a million bucks Uh arch, you know, they're young guys. They've got a chance, but man It's this current crop The best quarterback on a team that has a chance to win the national title and i don't include miami and that they're they're they're on borrowed time Uh, is dylan gabriel at or again, um That's the best quarterback playing right now on a team that actually has a chance to win It's not will how are he who tried to get the game away against pen state Uh, it's certainly not karsen beck. So that these next four weeks it could be quen by the end of november We could be talking about quen the same way we were talking about him in in september and that's the hope Yeah, and you've seen it like the nfl has also talked about how they're just killing quarterbacks They're just not developing them and who was it hurt one or whatever it's like because we don't teach and play quarterback anymore They're like not read they're not reading coverage it. They're not understanding football They're looking at space or two-man concepts if then kind of things if the corner does this then throw it. That's that's great For moving the ball and short chunks, but you can see there's like a lack of Wholefield awareness amongst younger quarterbacks and it's bleeding into the NFL now They are like the field general place. It's not a place to develop You go there because you're hopefully already developed and now you're competing against if you're not developing competing against somebody that is Uh, so development. It does not really occur in the NFL like people think it happens in high school and college Uh, maybe in the off-season NFL. You just it's you're not being there You're not there to develop You're there to play and earn your paycheck and if you don't earn a paycheck, they can play something that's already developed Yeah, which is brutal And it's gonna lose us a lot of good quarterbacks like, you know, like 10 years from now Um, but it's it's tricky man. And also of course the defense is right they're getting these defenses have answered the spread Remarkably, you know, like what they're just ability to disguise coverages I mean, they're totally screwing quarterbacks up because quarterbacks were such a simple way of viewing the weather Is the middle field open or closed? Yeah, and that's literally how we taught them to play quarterback and like now they're switching it and the quarterbacks Like literally you can't figure out what's going on. There was a time when units You still have three linebackers out on the field going against the more open offenses and it's just easy pickings Yeah, it's uh, that's the that's a tough part because these defenses Now the interesting part right the spread innovated defenses had to innovate Was the next innovation on top of the innovation though? And I think you were seeing it a little bit man teams are going back really heavy Yeah, that's what we'll play back to the run game That's just a natural conclusion to this is you know bigger backs probably Uh more power game more, you know, bigger personnel, which is you have to have an answer for everything That's why you know, that's why stark likes to be multiple. He's never really been a spread guy Um, but people are catching up to him, you know, they was all the rage last year with his condensed sets People are starting to catch up to that. So There's always a given intake and you know, people are always always solving you and you have to be solving them and returning have to always self-scout Yeah, so yeah, they're firing blitzes anytime he goes condensed And they're also like naturally people will play zone versus condensed Georgia was like no, we're gonna man them up versus condensed and we were not ready for that on some of that stuff So it's um, it's interesting to see because yeah Sarks potency has been less this season And if the answer to stark is just play cover three match and we're gonna check down screens the whole time And then there's not a team in the world. It's not gonna play cover three match That's i'm not worried about that. I think sark was playing possum with that passing game against vanguard. He was working on confidence throws for quin Um, he's gonna have answers for for match three Good That would be Absolutely brutal if he didn't just when dabbo was starting to get praised for tendos down for his position I know he goes down. What a dumb Thought process where he's actively hurting his team but trying to act like a hero Yeah, I was watching the broadcast the only teams that don't have transfers are him in the service academies because you can't transfer in and out of the army right, you know, and so uh That's just such a dumb that makes no sense man. It's yeah Go to some small school and live it out. You know where they'll never fire you or change fields, man Because you can't You're not you don't like whatever this current iteration is. Yeah, he's he's too young to show this little adaptability It's it's kind of alarming to see that now. There's obviously an importance on cohesion and culture and and you don't want uh Island of misfit toys where you're bringing in 20 guys every year Um, but you know you have to supplement your your your gray areas with with new talent Uh, and it if nothing else it improves competition. I mean, it's Whatever man. I'm glad i'm not a Clemson fan No Clemson hadn't played anyone they beat up on the five worst teams in ACC. They were always frauds Yep, yeah I felt this way about davos I don't know for the past four or five years and I that's what drives me nuts too Is like sometimes cleansing will still get kind of thrown in the elite category. It's like no They are not elite, man still living on the path a little bit Yeah, dude. Definitely used to be it used to be clemstoning was uh fallen up short in the big games Not clemstoning is just refusing to take any any portal transfers. Yeah, just refusing to make your team better makes that It's crazy, man. All right. Let's hear a word from laura and then we will talk about this exciting weekend that we just witnessed Hi, I want to tell you about laura baker If you're looking for a new home in the 512 or even at this point, let's face it seven three seven area code There's only one number to call that's laura baker at 512-784-0505 As a member of the elite and the allen team with keloland's laura has helped long horns find the home of their dreams In central texas just ask our resident sec symbol ean boy who moved all the way from michigan to texas with laura's help laura can help you find what you're looking for in the 512 the 737 or even parts of the 254 and the 210 Just you know, give her a call at 512-74-0505 Her email is in the description as well as the rest of her contact details. She's a friend. Give her a call Gundy is embracing the transfer portal. What is going on? Okay state Gundy has such a weird like he is such a volatile like he's he's somehow both remarkably consistent and volatile I know it doesn't make sense, but he's an enigma. He's a paradox like that Um, it's I have a lot of respect for what he's done. Oklahoma state, but sometimes you look over you're like, what is going on over there? Yeah, I don't think he can compete. I don't think they compete in the quite an nio space I know he comes out and talks about it quite often You're still looking to your pay to stop the place for you and all that i'll tell you ages to go away before the season But he always finds a way to get his team ready for like the big games, right? And then all of a sudden they just kind of fall asleep versus things they should be I'm not having quite under never understood that with Gundy But, uh, I don't know man. I'm glad we don't have to play him anymore. So this is like he always got his team ready to play I've watched I've watched shockingly little of the big 12 This season. I thought I was going to kind of keep keeping touch on it, but I have thought Watch hardening any of it. Everybody's turned over to watch the Texas tech Iowa state game. I just yeah, no, I'm good over here Yeah, that's honestly how I've been with the big 12 too I was like man, I think i'm gonna miss it and watch it and i'm just like no I just hear about afterwards like Iowa state got beat. It's like, oh, okay What's their what's their record right now? Let me see. Oklahoma state. Yeah. Oh my god. They're 16th and the big 12. How's that even possible? They are 0 and 6 Remarkable 0 and 16 conference Oh, man, you know, he's always done done more with less Um, he's doing less with more, uh, at least but based on his historical standard Oh my gosh, he's got he's got her to be set to retire. Yeah, you know, loose and cheap boond pickings right before nyl truly Took off was a brutal man Beat for him, but Oh, man. I didn't realize it was going that bad either Oh and six they're three and six. They always play really crappy Non-conference, so that's not surprising, but she is making 0 and 6 in con. I gotta see they played they normally get better throughout Colorado will make the They were in the big 12th championship last year. We all know that because we watched Texas kick the crap out of them, but I mean Who's that quarterback Colorado make the playoffs aren't isn't Colorado already a two-loss team Yeah I don't want it now for like ratings and stuff, man Like if you can get Colorado in the playoffs get them in the playoffs. No, they'll figure out a way if it's if it's at all possible Yeah, I mean, I don't blame them. I mean that would be Yeah One confidence a lot of six and two overall four and one in the big 12 So you think Ryan they're gonna get in the playoffs due to winning the league. Is that what you're saying? No, I'm just saying it the the power science No, Ryan Must be the money because he said they're making the playoffs I said they're a two-loss team, but he's saying they're one conference loss So the way they can get in is winning a league. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, okay. So yeah, he's saying winning the league But yeah, they're not they're not gonna be in it. I mean, they know the they'd love to throw them in there if they could just for the ratings I need to watch BYU man because man their offense was anemic last year And so for them to turn it around that's pretty impressive Think they got an impressive players back. Maybe who won't missions last year. You know that team gets older Or you're they're super young when you're the older. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they have the advantage of having like a bunch of like 26-year-old linemen That have been in like South America for two years. Just just developing as a as a young man It's pretty impressive. All right, let's look at the ap people Because it's it's gonna be fun All right Oregon at number one. I think everyone's good with that Georgia at number two I would have Ohio State ahead of Georgia So would I just because Georgia, I mean if you just watch the Texas Georgia game you put them number one in the country But every other game damn it. They have not looked good So I don't know Georgia number two number three, whatever Ohio State Man, I just don't this this year man the amount of parity like there's nobody that's like scary at the top No, including Texas correct Miami Uh, they don't I mean they show up later in the game But is man if you could get up on Miami enough in the first half then you'll be able to expose them playing playing around all the time Yeah, they're second half team. They're they're right for it I mean they they'll probably win the ACC and get in the playoffs, but they're not gonna last long Yeah, Texas at number five. Okay. Um, pin state at six Oh, yeah, I mean that was They played they played a pretty decent game against Ohio state. Um, it was a tough loss for them that Your that interception going into the half was a killer. Yeah, they're about to score And I don't know how that got picked that ball off. That was crazy Yeah Tennessee Tennessee also man just kind of like what a weird team I'm just kind of like skirting by they had a good game last week, but No one like I said, no one's that impressive Especially for the what we thought we were going to see from Tennessee offensively And really it's their defense is killing it Yeah, definitely right near near the top. I think it's a yards per game is I think they're number one, right? Or they may not be after this week Yeah The run defenses way up there the D line is the star of the of the show there Yeah, Indiana. I have not watched a single Indiana game have y'all No I try not to watch the big 10. Honestly, I just it's you know, that's when I get my chores done if I'm actually at home Other than oh how state Penn State was, you know, you got to watch that, but I have not watched Indiana What are they calling a nine windy in there right now? Yeah I haven't watched them. I need to watch them because they're like to feel good story And also it's always just impressive to see what those coaches potentially are doing schematically and that kind of stuff to even make this occur BYU Haven't watched enough of them. They're gonna be interested. Let me see if I can pull this up So we're not just blocking our faces the whole time. I like it. I like BYU's coach, man. So talky Yeah, so do I It was just to see that turnaround from this year to last year is what's really kind of impressive there Indiana is beating up on bad teams Yeah, I was seeing somebody that was talking about like strength to schedule that like they only play like one team in the big 10 It's worth their salt So that's going to be on bad teams for Indiana is not That that's still a big deal, right? They're getting by because well, Indiana was a bad team. So Yeah Notre Dame Can you Look, can you admit a team into the playoffs at loss to NIU? That's on the back of your mind. Yeah, like apparently you can but There has to be some disqualifying losses here, you know But also on the flip side who I mean, who would you put in? Who do you think is better? Significantly better than knock them out. There's also Notre Dame in the tv tv ratings matter for the playoffs. So it's gonna factor in And their defense is actually really good. So you know, you can make a case for them, but yeah, that loss in northern Illinois They played a lot better since then, but Yeah, you don't you wonder how that happens. How's that even possible? Yeah, and they don't they don't really get a good They get a crappy USC team, which is probably my favorite aspect of the season so far outside of any Texas successes USC's failings and I don't even hate USC. It's just my My diabolical rage towards Lincoln Riley But so they're not gonna be able to boost their schedule with a good win. That's not gonna be a quality win when they get it My suspicion is that Lincoln Riley is not an actual program builder You know, he just got to take over a good situation from stoops And it seems to be true that he's not able to actually build the program side The next the next tough team physical team he has will be his first Yeah That goes for mental toughness too Yeah, a 10 and two another day with this schedule shouldn't make it with that resume, but they would probably make it anyways Yeah, who do they have coming up? They're playing army or somebody who are they playing coming up? Yeah, they just beat navy. They got florida state, which is you know, there. That's you Goodness gracious. They have florida state, virginia army And USC so they're not going to lose another game Right, you know army less army does some weird army stuff That game's in yankee stadium. That's that'll be a lot of fun Yeah Alabama The mighty have fallen and by falling they're just like actually still a really good team But they're just not able to This so first of all these ap rankings are absolutely bonkers. You've got indiana. By you Notre Dame, Alabama, then it goes Boise state and smu That's insane. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I really are I was reading this article this morning that was really good Let me pull it up not for y'all just to make I want to make sure I credit correctly because it was really good piece by roger roger Sherman and so Apparently some college students actually did a study on the transfer portal and what it's doing And they've proven that it benefits lower ranked teams So they had tier one teams most players go from top to bottom not bottom up So it is proven so that whenever we thought the rich was going to get richer We were all wrong because basically alabama hasn't been able to hoard those four stars for four years anymore And now they're going and starting at whatever school and uh, it's been a huge we were seeing that And the reason some of the these are some historically bad teams on this in this top 25 right now And that's what the article was Yeah, and that's what his article was on. So these are the eighth eight worst teams Historically, let me just I'll share Okay I'll show this one These are the eight worst teams ever Kansas Look, the list is getting off to a bad start here, but read on all right. So vander build. They're five and three They beat alabama duke is six and two now. They lost to a one point to smu Indiana is eight no has not trailed in a game yet hot damn Illinois is now six and two Colorado is six and two has a very famous coach Syracuse is six and two and smu is seven and one. So these are like the historically bad programs Um, and all of them besides kansas and kansas is still on the up train not this year But it's showing you that uh, we're actually getting more parity and we're getting a better product overall Away from just like a georgia and alabama steamrolling everybody Yeah, it makes sense It's cool. And so He also did read that article by him guys. He did a good job. He also talks about the transfers out of alabama during their elite uh Rain and they had like however many five stars not a single five star transferred out during that period So they were able to basically bench and hoard all this talent And and now they can't do that anymore. So it's been it's been actually really beneficial the transfer portal Is benefited the little guys and we're seeing that Yeah So Bam at 11 right and the bam lsu game. We'll talk about that. It is a lot of a lot of implications for texas This weekend is going to be nuts Yeah, okay. Wait Uh, and then you have Boise state you have gente who's Going crazy What does that look like what does that look like at the power five level? So if he's he's already his numbers are so gaudy. It's not like he wouldn't be good at power five But does that take 20 off of his averages? Does that take 30? How does that work? You know I don't know man. When you just look at the guy you can tell he's the ball. It's going to be a good pro Oh, yeah, he's going yeah, it's He stands like Michael Myers in the back There just completely still he's gonna be a baller pro tackle. There's no good like he's got a low center gravity It's just The ultimate pinball back. Yeah, you can look for the game versus that organ too. Like he went off his organ I know it was like week one whatever, but still he was able to run That's a good point. That's a good point Um, and then smu Man, they took the dumbest deal ever to get into the power four I mean that was some desperation stuff like happy to be here stuff Um, but they're hey man number 13 in the country I actually think that was a good move by smu because i'm not sure how long the ACC is going to be around So if they can go in there and be good in the ACC They might end up getting a better seat on an expanded SEC I'm not saying it's likely or anything, but I think they had to do something to not get left behind Uh like washington state now washington state still here at Oregon state Um, yeah, I understand why they took that deal. They they were just went out in a position to negotiate But they've got they've got the funding man. They've you know, there's a lot of money in Dallas Oh, yeah, they asked them you perhaps you're gonna take care of them It's still dead the foresight You're right the play down the road might make a lot of sense And also a lot of money's not changing hands. They might be able to maneuver a little bit better too, right? Post uh collapse lsu Weird team very weird weird team They can beat you and you wouldn't be surprised. They can also lose by 20 and you wouldn't be surprised weird coach Um, everybody's been talking about coria ramen for you know a decade over a decade And you know terry joseph can't coach, which would who would you rather have right now? I mean if you you're going by a recent track record, it's pretty obvious Yeah, the defense is uh Yeah, questionable and that's my man. He's talented, but good lord. He'll do some crazy stuff. Yeah Dude, this is such a weird year, man. I love it though, dude. Like it's this is fun, man This top place five is bonkers man. Dude. It's it's a lot of fun Uh tech saying it So fun game we talked about it. I was eyes-on at the chilis Yeah, um We need to talk about that. Oh, yeah, of course. We're circling back on this one Um, so here's here's the thing To south carolina's run game, especially on the perimeter was brutal man like they were killing them Now, of course, I have to project with texas. It's like well, we don't have uh rocket Um, we don't have sellers. We don't have big body runners Um, so that'll be a little bit tricky. Can we recreate that? Let's see Um, and then sellers man just getting away from sax and pressure Also, we're also not going to be able to do that So that's kind of uh the scary thing too. So I don't know how much of this Even relates. I don't think it relates to texas placed on at all frankly Um, but it was nice to see uh them give beat uh thoroughly No texas in half that so what what translates to the texas game is their tackling was absolutely horrid Um, and not just sellers if they're tackling overall was bad Um You know sellers had they had a lot of uh water shippers were breaking tackles. It's just uh, it was a total total physical beat down Uh, especially in the second half So you can't recreate some of that but also, you know if texas has good blitz pickup and gets false To the perimeter player makers, you know, they'll break they'll break some tackles, but That would stood out to me about that game was the stadium was absolutely crazy Um, and they got out to a 10 point lead and you know with the colors and in in uh, columbia I was sick and man that this better not be what what kyle field is like at the end of november But you know, it's gonna be it's gonna be that loud and then some oh, yeah, it's gonna be That atmosphere was insane But yeah ag is just got whipped that quarterback is like i like i wrote the other day It's like if anm got rustle shepherd all over, you know, they you know, they miss something about a high school Um, but he's he's an athlete But he's not really doing a whole lot of quarterback things other than he does a pretty good job of keeping his eyes down the field when he's moving around Looking for the open man, but he's not going to beat you from the pocket That's just not going to happen. Uh, I think a lot of fans are for gun shy because they saw what he did against lsu That's that's not going to happen against texas Well lsu dumbies like act like they've never seen a running quarterback before and don't know how to defend zone read and guess what? South carolina stayed home on the quarterback and made him get hand the ball off and guess what he wasn't telling you Yeah, i think running back that's rough too Yeah, and yeah, he's like eric said he's not playing quarterback right now He's playing playmaker Um, and you're in You need a lot of plays to win a game. So look if you can make nine plays Good on you. I doubt you're gonna be able to do that versus number one defense I think start to take advantage of banning defense because they're not really they play hard, but they're really undisciplined They get out of gaps at time. They blip. You know what i'm saying? They make a ton of mistakes and You can if you were there eyes or what they're looking at so i'm gonna take advantage of that especially with the rpo game Um, because those guys are not disciplined whatsoever. They just like to play They run 100 miles an hour, but sometimes they go the wrong direction. That's talent versus execution, right? They got athletes, but they're not staying sound Um, and they're also, you know, they'll do some dumb penalties too Um, and you know in the texas and an m game. It's gonna be like there's gonna be some dumb 15 yard penalties It's who makes the least of those Anm home field advantage will be brutal for you. I think it'll be brutal for anyone, but also man quinn on the road I'm riding. I like quinn on the road, dude Like I think quinn plays well on the road. So There we go voltex So anm It's going to be interesting, right? They're kind of in the same spot with us with the sec calculator They need to beat us and then I think they have Somebody has to lose for them to get in old miss man. They were the darling of this off season I They still got a chance to make some noise. They've got uh They got georgia this week, right? It's a georgia. Yeah, georgia. And they got a defense Yeah, what's weird dude texas? Tennessee old miss all these offensive head coaches these explosive offenses It's all their their defenses are carrying these teams Uh Georgia has full miss and then tennessee back-to-back Yeah, they're no they're no lock to make it to the sec championship game. That's what they're playing Right Yeah, it's um Yeah, we you'll see in a second. We have to have georgia or l.s. You have to lose uh for us to waltz in here Good work. I'll stay here now for but yeah Quinn plays great on the road. I agree. He does play well on the road. Iowa state. Campbell goes down Yeah I mean, yeah, of course they're gonna lose always And still be a good team. But yeah, they there's a talent kind of ceiling there Man if someone can steal that defensive coordinator what those guys have to be the biggest bros I've ever seen in college football because you can steal a cock Man, that could change a lot of stuff, but they are just they are a ride or die for each other Okay, this is what they're like trying to go learn from him too like every year By trying to go sit in cleanse what they got learn a defense three house safety defense But nobody can run and like him. Yeah, this is a great sentence right here. My vaults will take care of georgia for us Yeah Hopefully I like Let me see Ole Miss talented, but it's hard to mesh so many portal transfers into an identity What I think is most important too that Ole Miss is like Continually signified how serious they are in the modern age I think that's important, especially when everyone wants to snatch Kiffin from you To show that you're willing to pay up and all that stuff is um, it's pretty awesome How do you guys feel about defensive staff this year for texas? I feel incredible about them Um That's been it's been fantastic We actually have more questions about how the recruiting class is going to finish on the defensive side then how they've played on the field Yeah, yeah, you feel like the defense is going to keep them in every single game Uh, certainly yeah kept them in the georgia game Yeah, played played better than it looked against Vanderbilt last time we saw Yeah, so I'm not worried about not worried about defense at all They've the coaches earned their paychecks and you know, I think it's they're probably not getting enough notes for how good they've been doing I'll give them some notes Gideon and joseph my bad on a couple of the previous years You guys are you guys are doing well in that secondary Maybe there was some talent gaps there Yeah, that's why I was always sticking up forgetting it was it was really the last position Properly addressed, which you know, you can understand you've got to come in and fix o-line and quarterback right out of the gates and d-line Uh, he finally got some talent. They've got some experience. Um, they've got a couple coaches on the field I mean jadei baren. Yeah, there's cares that happen saying jadei taf Mccuba Uh, even malike mohammed has always played beyond his age They finally got the talent and experience and we're seeing what happens when you have that So I think you know what we do at inside texas has provided a lot of context and say hey Just let these guys get their pieces in place. That's what we said all off season I felt athleticism when iq was addressed Uh, and we're seeing it and nance in his big addition is team wide run fits have been really really strong Yeah Yeah, you had an analyst that came in from michigan state too, who's you know works with secondary and turn to like You can tell like a lot of things have been implemented this year. There wasn't a year in the past You know, we talked about homework communication like They overcommunicate which i love in the secondary like nobody's out of place at all. No matter who plays it can be mcdonald We saw him last week he came in huge right on he right on target fit in like he's been getting all the snaps all season So I love to see that man. Just it's just it's just been it's been wonderful Yeah All right, and then towards the bottom here. It really doesn't have much effect on us. It's interesting, you know Shout-out army good job washington state that's interesting Colorado all the doubters on Dion that's I mean they're top 25 from an awful one win whatever So we'll see how they do down the stretch kansas state suffering a loss that was weird But they've been pretty good losing their oc So interesting pit haven't watched them once this year have no idea what's going on there Shout-out vander built They're gonna upset a they're gonna take it's not even I mean it is upsets But this is just a real team, you know, we're kind of everyone's kind of doing the head pat like look how cute vander built's winning It's like guys. They're beating teams thoroughly. There's nothing. There's nothing flooky about this game And they play LSU to finish it out. So, you know, that would be interesting. They might help us out. All right. Yeah Let me see if I can uh Share this here tab All right, this is the sec calculator Okay It looks like a library for ants. I can't see any of that. Yeah, it's uh, this is about as zoomed as I can get you Okay. Can you see that better? I'll pretend I can okay. Cool. So November 9th So here's the trick right say LSU Wins here. Why is this like it's like freezing up on me. Give me a second. There we go. Okay, so say LSU wins Out LSU wins out every game remaining game. Okay, Texas wins out every remaining game And Georgia wins out every remaining game Making sure we're good here Calculate standings Texas will not make the SEC championship, okay So LSU gets in above Georgia and Texas based on conference opponent wins percentage So when there's a three-way tie You can't do like head-to-head common opponents Right because a lot of people automatically go Texas gets in because Texas would have be Texas A&M and LSU lost Yes, and a head-to-head situation, but Georgia doesn't play A&M So you can't do that type of logic Um, so the so what it ends up going to is like the third or fourth rule And that's conference opponent win percentage who played the better schedule and Texas does have the weaker schedule of the two so Um, so if all teams went out Texas Georgia LSU Texas does not make the SEC championship And please quit repeating that Texas gets in over LSU because we beat A&M that does not work three ways Georgia does not play now. Here's the difference right Alabama beats LSU all things remain the same Georgia and Texas get a rematch Okay So we're rooting and it really any LSU lost there's a there's a lot of very ways Texas gets in if they just keep winning Yeah Yeah, but this is where there's going to be a thousand pass, but we're the most likely right Right And the most likely is the LSU would have to lose and the most the team they're most likely to lose against Is going to be LSU on their remaining schedule Our uh, Bama on their remaining schedule. Yeah We're so it any Georgia loss any LSU loss in Texas wins out. We're good But most likely right LSU losing to our LSU losing to Bama would be most likely And then Georgia and I think Georgia and Tennessee right Tennessee gets the Georgia one So that game that Bama LSU games in Baton Rouge Bit of a bummer It is Imagine they beat Bama and then you're rooting for the team across the red river to beat LSU next week I don't know. I don't know. I think I'll be saving that bullet for Vandy or you know Tennessee has like we said Tennessee has Ole Miss then Tennessee Georgia has Ole Miss then Tennessee back to back Yep, they have Georgia. Yeah, and then I I swear they don't have any games the last two weeks. It looks like weird It's like they're bi-weaking I think they're probably just not playing conference or playing like Kennesaw North directional state or something Um, okay, so that's that's the big Trick guys, so we need to be else you have to go to Florida and you know, it's Yeah, we need Georgia or LSU to stumble. That's just the reality of it And it's it's possible because like we said Georgia hasn't showed up for any games besides us and LSU sketchy Um, but we do need some help. I've heard some Texas wins out and everything will automatically be fine. That's not that's not correct Um Texas, that's why whenever we lost to Georgia There's always this like man will be fine. No, man and this much parody one loss can really change things It's not like how it was so um, it's uh, it's gonna be interesting, but here's what I wanted to ask you guys And I've heard this expression. I haven't really been able to think it out enough. Is there value Do you even want to play in the SEC championship? Yes. Yeah, and why why would you? To get the first round by okay First round by you play at home. I mean, yeah, why not number one seed Probably they would have a chance to get the number one seed Oregon oh how state would have something to say about that as well What's the what about the risk reward of playing the extra game and losing so you you play an extra game lose and don't get the buy? Yeah, that's a bummer, but you know you play to win the game as our our guy said, uh back in the day um Yeah, and you know you want to I think dude win in the SEC in your first year in the SEC. You win the big one. They'll be incredible. Yeah Dude the bragging rights just I I want to play in the game and win it just so you can be like, oh, we're not SEC ready That's but that's mostly why I want to do it. I want that more than the first round by What what day what day is the big 12 of the SEC championship game? No idea. I can try to look It's like December 7th 8th something like that And you've got signing day on December 4th, I think I'd want to be on December 7th. Yeah So if you got signing day December 4th, I think I'd want to spend the last few hours Recruiting these guys across the line telling me getting ready to go play for the SEC championship game and Things are just getting started in Austin, Texas Well, yeah, that's the downside rise you do lose then you just end up taking a beating versus the number one team possibly get injured You lose drop in ratings and you uh, you don't get a buy so that's the this is what's interesting in the modern area is that There's a little bit you're being disincentivized a little bit to play in that game Also, I've heard paul's voice this Paul thinks whoever loses the SEC game will drop further than the first team out of the SEC Yeah, and that's stupid that that's useless. I think it's depending on how the game goes, right? If you get absolutely smashed then I can make a case for it Um, but as far as getting hurt in the SEC championship game I mean you can get hurt in that in your five 12 game too, you know, if that's where you see it or you know Your first round playoff game, you know, uh, by then I imagine stark is it's gonna be going to be wanting another buy week Right we've been a buy week on october 5th And we saw how much they needed to buy week this past week So I imagine a month or a little over a month five weeks from now you're gonna want another buy week if you can get it Yeah Yeah, I agree. I don't think you can The the first team out cannot drop or cannot go ahead of the the second team Otherwise you've made it to where it's advantageous to be like a fist seed Not playing your conference championship and be able to sit back. So it's like you can't make it to where The conference championships mean nothing Right, um or do away with them at that point. Um, if you're getting punished for making that game Just go win it go win the rest of your games take care of your business Just go to the SEC championship and win the whole thing, bro That's where i'm at with it. You can't worry about Yeah, over the other me only only all the entertaining factor is if we do drop the five In a team out in vegas bees boy to stay It's a fire to a match up versus texas unlb. I'd be off of that one. Just trust if you find entertaining rather than that not I don't want that to be a road game Yeah, that'd be cool. Yeah But uh, yeah, you're right. It's silly if basically to me there should be a stay on movement If you didn't play that week, you don't get to move up and if you did play that week You don't get to move down. There should be a total stay there that loss if you do absorb the loss It really The tough part is right. You say you get beat 60 to zero Then it's like all right, but it's like we shouldn't be able to jostle guys around because one team did well Are and yeah, yeah, yeah, you're punishing achievement Yeah, but I I will not be shocked if that's exactly what ends up happening Yeah, but it's the goal The goals went out ideally have ls you lose so texas can rematter georgia Um, that's kind of the the dream that I think people are holding on to All right guys Any final thoughts are you guys you're ready to ride if I have any more thoughts they can catch me tonight at six o'clock That's true or on inside texas.com where you can ask eric and coach questions directly on the threads Fans thanks for hanging out. I always enjoyed doing these shows and in hearing the all's opinions and talking about our favorite team Until tomorrow at 9 30 a.m. I will see you guys then hook them [Music]
After a bye week to regroup... what do we need to focus on heading into the back half of the SEC schedule?
