Raise your hand if you feel really represented in our Colorado state legislature. Yeah, that's what I thought. Hey, it's Ross, and I have no confidence that the people under the Golden Dome are routinely doing what's best for me and you, for our families and neighbors and friends and colleagues, because our system for choosing and electing candidates isn't functioning to benefit us, it's functioning to benefit the system. But there's something we can do about it, and it's called Proposition 131. Prop 131 will let all voters choose among all candidates, regardless of party, for the state legislature, Congress, and most statewide races, except president, with the top four going on to the general election. It gives us more options as voters, and importantly, it keeps party bosses from sticking us with bad options. And as someone who wants to have true choices, I have to say that I'm even more confident in my support for Prop 131, knowing that the party bosses on both sides don't like it. It takes power away from them, gives it to you and me where it belongs. For a better government vote, yes, on Prop 131. Pay for by yes, on 131, own cloth registered agent. [Music] Hello, everyone, and welcome into another edition of the GSMC College Football Podcast brought to you by the GSMC Sports Network. I'm your host, as always, Tommy Brzee. It is Friday, October 25th around here, and we have a great show for you today. I want to start going into all of the storylines as we head into week nine because there are quite a few of them, and some really, really good ones. So I want to break down for you guys today. Then we'll get into a little talk around the players and the coaches that are under the most pressure as we head into week nine. Quite a few all around the country, including Eli Drinkwitz, maybe could have the biggest moment in his coaching career this upcoming weekend. Then we'll get into a little bit of a week nine, whip around. We had two games already this week that have been absolutely incredible and a number of other ones that I want to make sure I have on y'all's radar, a little bit under the radar, but definitely worth your time. We'll get into a little talk around my best bets for the upcoming weekend. Definitely some ones that are a little bit out there. I think one of the bigger ones is Cincinnati. I think might just keep it close against Colorado, but we'll get into that in that segment. Then we'll do a little bit of a headline wrap up and injury update for all of this upcoming weekend. Obviously, some of the biggest news is Grace McCall, retiring from football. Definitely will break that down at the end of the show. But before we jump in, I do want to remind you all we get tons of questions and comments throughout the show. The best way for you all to your question on the screen, we can have a fun back and forth here, so use that super chat. The bottom of the sports network chat, you can click on that dollar sign and add a question, comment you'd like, and then I'll pop up on the screen where you can have a fun back and forth here. Definitely want this to be as interactive as possible, and the best way to do that is to use that super chat feature. So definitely utilize that. Also, GSMCPodcast.net is up and running if you'd rather use that. But let's go ahead and jump into this, because I feel like there are quite a few really kind of fun story lines as we head into this upcoming weekend, and one of the bigger ones is these undefeated teams, and then possibly going down for this weekend, because there are quite a few sketchy spots, and we'll start with that Navy game. This is the obvious one. With Notre Dame coming into town, well, them going up to MetLife to play this game, it is going to be a really interesting game for Navy. It's obviously one that losing would not be all that surprising. I think I picked Notre Dame to win. I think a lot of people will pick Notre Dame to win, but would bring an end to a remarkable season for Navy, at least in terms of the CFP, still plenty of things that they're playing for. And maybe even if they lose this game and win out, there's still that CFP team. Who knows? But at the end of the day, it would end their undefeated season, and I feel like that's rather likely as you look deeper and deeper into that game. But who knows? Maybe Navy can shock the world on Saturday. And then you do have Indiana. I think they walk into a matchup against Washington that is just the slightest bit sketchy. You know, you come in without your starting quarterback against a team that has coming off a terrible, terrible performance against Iowa, but also had that buy, had a little bit of time to figure themselves out. And it's still a very capable team that absolutely could go into Bloomington and get that big win with game day in town. So it would be a crazy, crazy game and definitely would bring into an end that incredible season that Indiana has been having. And then BYU, this is kind of the unlikely underdog of the weekend. They are going down to Orlando to face off against UCF, and they are the underdogs in that game. And if they aren't careful, this UCF run game will just totally take them to the woodshed and they will be absolutely dominated and lose their undefeated season as well. So a couple of teams there that absolutely could lose two of those teams are underdogs. So it gives you an idea that if favorites win this weekend, only one of these, Indiana, will still be standing at the end of the day. So it's going to be really interesting to watch that unfold. With BYU, if they were to lose, it would kind of help out this thinning out of the big 12 that possibly could happen this upcoming weekend because there are quite a few games all around the place for the big 12 this weekend that could help us out just a little bit. And we'll get back to that BYU UCF game here for a second because if BYU wins, we don't really learn a whole lot. You know, we still have those two teams up top with Iowa State and BYU and then everyone else kind of just jockeying for position in that second, third, fourth spot. But then if BYU were to lose, you would have Iowa State sitting atop alone, then you would have BYU kind of joining the mess at one loss. But the Cincinnati Colorado game is going to give us an answer. It's going to knock someone out of the race for this conference, whether that's Cincinnati or Colorado. It's going to be their second loss in conference that will likely do them in. If I had to imagine this is a conference that has so many people at one loss right now, I think it's going to be really hard to get in with two losses, especially with Colorado having a loss to Kansas State already and a couple of different things there. So I think that one definitely going to knock someone out this upcoming weekend. And then you got Texas Tech TCU. There's one where it's very possible with that TCU wins this game and Texas Tech team that two weeks ago was sitting at the top of the conference is effectively out of the conference race on Saturday. So definitely something to watch there. Really what it comes down to is if the favorites win these games, we have a lot of answers. You know, BYU would drop down a peg either Cincinnati or Colorado. If this in this case, the favorite is Colorado. So Cincinnati would fall out of the race for the big 12 and then TCU is the favorite. So Texas Tech would probably fall out of that conference race. So that's kind of all we need is the favorites to win, but that's been rather hard to come by in the big 12. So definitely something to watch there. It's one of those things that could give us a lot of answers, but we could be right back here next week talking about how crazy the big 12 is and how hard it is to get a beat on. And frankly, we'll probably be doing that anyways, but at least would love a couple of answers this upcoming weekend. But another thing I noticed as going through this schedule is there's a couple of just one game season salvagers and that sounds kind of crazy because obviously still going to be a disappointing season for a lot of these teams. But you look at the game that coming up this weekend, they win it. A lot of their fans are feeling a lot better about where they're at going forward and the biggest one probably is Florida State. It's been an absolute nightmare season for the Knowles. There's no two ways about that. And they have a big challenge going down to Coral Gables trying to get a win against Miami, but the reality is you get that win. You earn back the favor of a lot of fans. Mike Norvell is no longer the guy that they very badly won out of town. He's the guy that took a team that has no business going down there and beating Miami. He took him down there and won the game. So it's going to be really interesting to watch that one. And one of those games that very well could just kind of keep everything at bay for the time being down there in Tallahassee. And then they can figure things out in 2025. And then for Kansas, another rivalry game that could very well save the season. You know, Kansas got hit with losing their offensive coordinator, Andy Kodlenicki to Penn State. That's been an absolute disaster. And it's really, really hurt them this season. Jalen Daniels has been a little bit all over the place the way that he kind of was before Andy Kodlenicki. So definitely something to watch as we head into this weekend because they could be Kansas State, ruin Kansas State's fun in the big 12 and get a win where a lot of their fan base would feel a lot better about this season if they were able to get that one. Obviously not the season that they expected by any means, but being able to knock out your rival is going to feel more than fine. And then Nebraska. This is a huge one for Nebraska because I don't think this is even, you know, changing this past year or the past couple of games or, you know, the past month or two. I think this would go back years of disappointment and Lincoln. If they were able to go up to Columbus and get a win over Ohio State in the shoe, it's a program defining moment. It's a moment that these fans will remember for their entire lives. So this isn't just a one game season salvager. It might just be a program salvager for Nebraska if they're able to go up there and get that win. And then maybe things start rolling downhill for them. But overall, it's going to be disappointing seasons for probably all three of these people. Well, if Nebraska gets a win, I think it'd be rather okay. But those first two absolutely are going to be disappointing seasons. And in this upcoming week, I think it'll feel a lot better going into the rest of the way. And then we have a do a kind of sad one here where we would, we could see the end of a lot of very fun stories of this past year. And Vandy's probably at the top of the list. They're staring down a huge one against Texas and plenty of people are picking them to win that game. If they do, then the Diego Pavia ride continues and I absolutely would love to be on it. But at the end of the day, they are 19 point underdogs. Texas is coming in with a little bit of chip on their shoulder after that last week against Georgia. It's going to be a tough battle. No doubt about that. I do think Vanderbilt probably loses that game and this incredible story of Diego Pavia and the Commodores kind of comes to an end. You know, an eight and four season would still be absolutely incredible for this program and would set them off on an incredible path going forward. But at the end of the day, four, twenty, twenty four would end that improbable CFP run that was, I think, in the back of all of our heads for Vanderbilt. And then we got Illinois, another team heading to Oregon this upcoming weekend, a really, really tough game. No doubt about that. That's why they're 21 point underdogs. But at the end of the day, if they're somehow able to go out there and get a win, a lot of things change. I tend to believe they're not going to be able to do that. So we probably see the end of this incredible run by Illinois and Luke Altmire. I do think they've built something that is going to be sustainable over the next couple of years. So I don't think they're going anywhere in any respect. But I do think for this year in particular, they're probably out of the Big Ten as well as the CFP race. And then finally, UNLV. They became one of the stories of college football after week three when Matthew Sluke left midseason. Hodge Malik Williams took over, has played incredible football after that. And they got Boise State coming to town. If they lose that game, they're effectively out of the G5 race for the CFP. And a lot of these incredible stories that we've heard out of UNLV, we've heard out of Las Vegas, will come to an end. But still a really, really fun team. And if they win this weekend, then the sky's the limit for them. And everything can happen for that program. So I think it's going to be an incredible weekend. But another thing I noticed is we're overlooking some rivalries around this schedule because we got Kansas, Kansas State. One where Kansas has struggled mightily this year. No doubt about that. Really in all of these, one or both of the teams have struggled enough to make it not quite the marquee matchup that it probably deserves to be. This Kansas State game, I definitely circled as one that was going to be huge for the big 12 title race. It's only huge for one of those teams. Kansas State has to get that win. And if they don't, then things get a little bit sketchy. And then you got Michigan, Michigan State going to be an incredible matchup. One of those games that you always love always has a little bit of juice on either side. Neither of these teams are necessarily to the level that you would like them to be for this game to be as important as it could be. And then the big time one is Florida State Miami. I thought this was going to be a game that frankly decided the ACC in a number of ways, but Florida State has been the disappointment of the year. And it's kind of led to a little bit of a disappointing matchup and Coral Gables is upcoming weekend. But as we know with that game, it can get crazy anytime. And then we got a couple of, we got an incredible one at the end of the Saturday with Texas A&M LSU. A little bit of an unlikely SEC supremacy face off because these two teams coming into the year were not pegged as the teams that were going to be. At this point, by any means, we knew that this game was going to be important. I think we all thought it was probably going to be important for a CFP spot, not for possibly an SEC title spot. So definitely something to watch here. I think for LSU, if you get that win, you might just be able to pencil them into the playoff. They do have a big game against Alabama coming up on their home turf. But at the end of the day, they will be favored in that game. And I think a lot of people would like them in that game. And then for A&M kind of can do the same thing. They are in a really, really good spot. And with the schedule they have coming forward, even if they lose to Texas at the end of the year, an 11-in-one schedule would very well get you into the CFP. It might just get you into Atlanta, which would be absolutely incredible for this program in their first year under head coach of Mike Elko. But overall, I think you look around this weekend, there are storylines all over the place. And there are some kind of interesting ones. Cannot wait to see how these undefeateds fare. Cannot wait to see if some of these great stories that we've loved, Vanderbilt, UNLV, a lot of these awesome ones. Do come to a little bit of an end. But at the end of the day, I think we are going to get some answers this upcoming weekend. But let's take our first break here. And when we come back, we're going to talk about the players and the coaches under the most pressure as we head into this upcoming weekend. I think Quinn Eures might actually take the cake in this one, although he's not playing the marquee matchup. Coming off a game where he very badly needs to put that behind him and play really, really good football. Bullbreak, all of them down right after this. Raise your hand if you feel really represented in our Colorado state legislature. Yeah, that's what I thought. Hey, it's Ross, and I have no confidence that the people under the Golden Dome are routinely doing what's best for me and you, for our families and neighbors and friends and colleagues, because our system for choosing and electing candidates isn't functioning to benefit us. We just talked about some of the big-time storylines as we head into this upcoming weekend. Could we get a couple of answers in the Big 12? Could a couple of these undefeateds go down? Definitely very possible in this upcoming weekend, but as we know in 2024, don't take anything for granted, but let's get into a couple of these players and coaches that are under the most pressure as we head into this upcoming weekend, 'cause there are quite a few, and one of the ones that I want to start with is maybe one that you're not expecting to start this list, but when you got to play better football, he knows that last week was not nearly what he needs to be playing for them to be able to win a national title, and there's quite a few people, and in whether it's the Texas fan base or outside the Texas fan base that are wondering, is he a guy that can lead you to a national title, and frankly, I'm kind of wondering the same thing. I think it's still a little bit up in the air. That being said, he has a moment this weekend to prove a lot of people wrong. They ranked a match up against Vanderbilt on the road, not necessarily an elite team in Vanderbilt, but still a very dangerous team as we have seen. They do have the 97th ranked pass defense in the country, and their O-line cannot be nearly as bad as it was a week ago. I have to assume the Texas O-line is going to be really, really good this upcoming weekend, and they should be able to get Quinn Ewer's back on track. They should be able to get him where he needs to be, and he should be able to put up some pretty gaudy numbers in this game. I think if he's all the way there mentally, and I think that was one of the bigger things on Saturday, they got to him pretty quickly, and he never really recovered. He played better football in the second half once he got to kind of collect himself and everything, but there's not enough time in this season in a lot of these games. For him to have to reset himself a number of times this season, he's going to have to come out slinging and make Texas fans feel like he is the guy that can lead them to a national title, or there's going to be a lot of questions around that quarterback room going forward. And then he got Jalen Milro, another quarterback that did not play, maybe played one of the worst games that I've seen him play last week against Tennessee, and to me, he's in one of the toughest spots in the entire country. He's playing for Alabama as quarterback, so that already puts you in a pretty tough spot, but to me he's obviously injured to a lot of people. He is obviously at least a little bit hobbled. He's also going to, at times, literally need to carry this offense. For large portions of the game, he's going to have to be the rushing threat on this offense because these running backs just aren't doing enough. And I hope to see more from them this upcoming weekend, but at the end of the day, they've kind of been who they are. I believe Jamarian Miller and Justice Haynes have only combined for over 70 yards once in SEC play this entire year. And maybe they haven't even done it once, honestly, but at the end of the day, it's going to be Jalen Milro carrying the weight of pretty much the entirety of Alabama football's fan base on his shoulders the rest of the way. So, can he deliver? It's going to be a huge question. And frankly, if he somehow runs the table and he somehow gets it all together and they go 10-2 and make the playoff, he should absolutely be a number one pick in the... I don't want to say number one overall, a first round pick in the NFL draft because it would be a remarkable, remarkable feat on a guy that I don't think is 100% right now. But he's one of the most talented players in the country. He's in a spot where it's going to be tough to handle all the outside noise and to handle all the craziness. But he's more than capable of pulling this team out of whatever they're in and getting them a huge win this weekend and then they'll move forward. But to do that, they got to go through Eli Drinkwits. And Eli Drinkwits is someone that this could very well be his career moment. This could be the moment that defines him for a number of years coming forward because I don't care if it's Alabama from 2000. Well, I kind of care if it's Alabama from 2007. I don't care if Alabama has lost two games this year. I don't care if they're not playing the greatest football. Going into Bryan Denny and getting a win is very, very tough to do. Georgia proved that to you earlier this year. So it's one of those things that regardless of what team you're facing on the other side, as long as you see that script day and as long as you were in that Bryan Denny Stadium on Nick Saban Field, you get that win. It's a program changer. It is a career changer. And frankly, his name's been brought up just a little bit around that Florida job. Not saying this is an audition, but saying a win would help quite a bit there. I'm just being honest. But at the end of the day, it's going to be really, really interesting to see how he handles this. We'll talk about some of the injury troubles they've had. It's going to be an uphill battle for him to deal with it. But the reality is he's got to get his guys ready. It's going to be as much about motivation as it is about anything in this game because going in there and being fearless is 90% of the battle. When you go play in a place like Bryan Denny and it's his job to figure out a way to make sure those guys are not afraid and they go in there with their hair on fire and just flying around the field. Then we got Dan Lanning. This is a very kind of interesting one because he is playing an Illinois team that they are stronger, that they are faster, that they are more talented than all of that being said. They have that number one next year name and whenever that happens, the head coach has more responsibility on that week than he does pretty much any other week of the season because you understand what that what happens because these guys are 18 to 22 year olds and maybe to 24 to 25 year olds. But at the end of the day, they are young kids and it's going to be one of those things where they do open their phone on a Monday and see that their team is number one in the country that does get to teams. It does get to teams that has already this season and it will again. I have to assume and it could be this upcoming weekend. You know, Oregon doesn't have Northwestern coming to town. They have an Illinois team that absolutely can cause problems for you, not necessarily give you a ton of openings and then end up winning just a really tough hard fought game. It's going to be really interesting and Dan Lanning learned how to deal with this from Nick Saban from Kirby Smart. Can he lock his guys in and can they not get caught up with what that number says next to their name on Saturday because that is a battle in the sport. No doubt about that. Then he got Al Golden, the defensive coordinator for Notre Dame. He's going to have his hands full and I think he knows that he knows that he's once he took this job. Really, he knew that this was going to be a very, very tough thing to deal with and he probably stopped preparing pretty much that night. If I had to imagine for this game in particular because the approach has to be fully dialed in, the focus has to be outright elite and the execution needs to be near perfect because you start missing tackles. This thing can get weird in a hurry and Navy can put up quite a few points. So you're going to have to be very, very careful and the biggest thing that I've seen a lot of teams get in trouble with with the triple option. In fact, a couple years or multiple years ago, probably a decade ago at this point when Georgia would face off against Georgia Tech when Paul Johnson was there. There was a lot of we're just better athletes. We're going to fly around, make all the plays in the world. Sometimes they got them into trouble and that's why a much less talented Georgia Tech team was able to beat Georgia a couple of times in 2014 and 2016. They cannot do that. If you're known to them, you have to be very, very careful about the way that you attack this offense because they will beat you in a number of different ways. If you over commit, if you just fly to the ball without even thinking, they are going to be able to beat you. So you have to be very careful, very calculated. If you can't be, it's going to be a nightmare day for your team. I can almost promise you that because this Navy team can cause problems in a hurry for pretty much anyone that they face. Another guy to watch is Brian Kelly. And this is a huge one for me because he silenced a lot of the noise around him. He made a lot of people feel a lot better about what LSU was this year when they beat Ole Miss now that they beat Arkansas. You got to feel really good about where you're at. If you're an LSU fan, he is a great coach and he's got a moment this upcoming weekend where he just badly needs to deliver. This needs to be a moment where his program where he takes that next step and they become one of those teams that is no longer, you know, here for one year and then gone the next or hanging around nine and three, just waiting, hoping for a spot to open up in the SEC Championship or the CFP. They can plant their flag. They can go into Kyle Field. Win that big game. Make sure you guys are calm. Ready to go. The noise is going to be a factor. You just have to make sure it doesn't alter your players' minds. It doesn't get into the get into what they do on a down by down play by play basis. You have to make sure that all of that is kind of under control. And if you can, this becomes LSU's conference for foreseeable future. This becomes LSU's conference. Obviously have Alabama down the road. But this is the game where I think in a number of different ways, they can stamp their ticket to the CFP. They win this game even if they lose to Alabama down the road. They're a 10, 2 team with wins over A&M with wins over Ole Miss. I don't think it's all that crazy that they would be one of those teams that would get that at large bit at the end of the day. Now, as we're seeing, it could be an absolute log jam at that point. So we'll figure out what happens as we get a little bit closer. But at the end of the day, Brian Kelly has become one of the most scrutinized coaches in the country. That's what happens when you take the job at LSU. And I think he fully understood that. He fully understood that they missed a huge opportunity last year with Jane Daniels not having the defense that he wanted, went out and got an elite defensive staff to get everything going. It has started to get going. But this is the game where you really prove everyone wrong, where you really prove that you are a team that is going to get to the CFP, that is going to be a problem. And frankly, when I look around the country, there are a couple of those teams that are just on the outside looking in just a little bit that absolutely could make title runs. LSU is one of them. And I think it would start on Saturday with a win at A&M. But obviously, a lot on the shoulders with that noise, with that crowd. Got to make sure you guys are ready to roll. And if they get rattled, then this one could get ugly in a hurry. And then on the other side, you got Connor Wegman. He has to be able to deal with this moment, relatively young quarterback still. All of the craziness that has happened around him, all the injuries, he has not necessarily started a ton of games at A&M. That being said, he has played really good football when he is needed to. In that Missouri game, one of the best game, the best game I've ever seen him play. That is for sure. And one of the better games I've seen a quarterback in the A&M jersey play in quite some time. He was very, very good in that game. He came a little bit back down to Earth in that Mississippi State game. And they have to be very, very careful this upcoming weekend because Blake Baker is going to come after him. I can absolutely promise you that. There is not going to be many downs where Connor Wegman is not having to deal with some type of weird blitz, some type of weird coverage. He's going to have to keep his wits about him because this defense attacks you in so many different ways. In fact, Blake Baker literally had his guys lined up in a straight line behind the offensive line and they just attacked from all different angles. You're going to have to be ready for some weird stuff. That's the reality of Blake Baker's defense and a quarterback that doesn't have all the experience in the world. It's a lot about the confidence. You know, getting that thing going early on, getting those quick passes, hitting your open receivers, hitting the guy that you feel the most confident, probably no a Thomas, whether it's Johnny Walker or whoever, finding that person that you feel the most comfortable with early, and then you can continue on the rest of the way. But every quarterback has these big time moments. Every quarterback has these moments where they turn in from a good player that we all that colleagues football crazies know to a household name that everyone around the country is going to know going for the rest of the season. This is the game for Connor Wegman. You know, Missouri was that precursor and that was an incredible game really showed everyone what they're capable of. This is the game where he really kind of takes full hold of that entire narrative where he becomes a household name, where he becomes a genuine prospect for the NFL draft, whether that's this year or next year, where he becomes a guy that can deliver on the biggest stage of college football and I think it could be a moment that doesn't only change this season for A&M but changes his whole life going forward. So definitely something to watch and Connor Wegman got quite a bit on his shoulders this upcoming weekend. And then action Jainty. I talked about this one a little bit earlier in the week, but I think Jainty actually has the most to gain from the Heisman race this upcoming weekend. I know that sounds a little bit crazy because he is in the lead. He is my Heisman favorite as we head into the back end of the season, but the reality is it's one of the very few times in the year, although he is playing just too late, but at the end of the day, the fact that the fact that he is playing a team that a lot of people love watching the UNLV become a big time story in college football, a game that's going to define the Mountain West going forward and you're kind of alone. There's not going to be a lot of people that aren't going to be tuned into this game watching this game and if you're a Heisman voter and you're not watching this game tonight, you should not be a Heisman voter. Go ahead and turn in your ballot blank because I do not want you voting on this award, but at the end of the day, he has a chance tonight. If he can get over, I don't know what the benchmark is really going forward for him, but I can pretty much say pretty confidently. He's got to get over that century mark. If he's not over 100 yards in this game, the Heisman campaign comes to an end. I feel pretty good about that. But at the end of the day, he goes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. He might just be the far and away favorite as we head on to the rest of the season because he's one of those guys that this is a huge moment for him and possibly his entire career going into the NFL. He could possibly just book his ticket to NYC on tonight. If he's able to handle business, put up crazy numbers, get that big time when become the favorite in the G5 CFP race. But with all of that, with all that stuff, with all that, you know, Heisman hype and everything going into this game and conference, you know, battles going into this game. A lot of that comes with pressure and he's going to have to be able to handle it. He's going to have to be able to go about his business and use that Grim Reaper approach that he has the first couple of weeks where he just stands there straight up in the backfield and then takes your head off on the first on the play. So it's going to be incredible to watch this one unfold and he's one of those guys that can gain a lot from this upcoming weekend, not only in the college football world, but possibly in the NFL world. I think he's already on plenty. If I'm being totally honest with you, but this would be an exclamation point on his NFL draft stock. But let's take our second break here. And when we come back, we're going to talk about just all the games. We have not a chance to get to this upcoming weekend, but also a couple of games that happened earlier on this weekend. We got an incredible game that was historic in every sense of the word up there in Kennesaw, Georgia. And then we got an interesting game in the ACC that did not go the way that I thought it would, but we'll break them all down right after this. Raise your hand if you feel really represented in our Colorado state legislature. Yeah, that's what I thought. Hey, it's Ross, and I have no confidence that the people under the Golden Dome are routinely doing what's best for me and you for our families and neighbors and friends and colleagues, because our system for choosing and electing candidates isn't functioning to benefit us. It's functioning to benefit the system, but there's something we can do about it. And it's called Proposition 131. Prop 131 will let all voters choose among all candidates, regardless of party, for the state legislature, Congress and most statewide races accept president with the top four going on to the general election. Paid for by yes on 131, own cloth registered agent. 88% of the workweek is spent communicating, typing, talking and going back and forth on topics until everyone is on the same page. We just talked about the players and the coaches that are under the most pressure as we head into this week. There are quite a few them all around the country. I think Quinn Ewers definitely has to deliver for Texas to feel a lot better about where they are going forward because that was quite the issue last weekend, no doubt about that. But let's get into a couple of talks around some of the games we just hadn't had a chance to get to and a couple of the games that happened this early on this week and there were some really good ones and we'll start with this Liberty Kennesaw State game. What a Wednesday game that we got. It was absolutely incredible to watch this one unfold and it was a historic program for the team that is only about 40 minutes from me up the road. So incredible to watch this program get their first FPS win. A huge shout out to Brian Bohen. He has been 72 and 36, three big South titles made the FCS playoffs four times and now got a chance to take his team up to the FPS level this year. Gets their first win over an FPS team in the history of this program, which isn't that far. They started in 2015 and he has been the guy ever since they took over incredible moment for him. You could see it on his face after the game. It was, it was really special. It was what college football is absolutely about and absolutely incredible to watch that one unfold. On the side of the players, Bryson, excuse me, Davis Bryson played a great game, 16 for 21, 89, one touchdown and one of those touchdowns or that touchdown came in a huge 41 yard touchdown to Christian Moss. Some really talented players over there at Kennesaw State getting a little bit of that run off from, you know, all the other teams in Georgia, you know, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, some teams, some players leave there. They find their way down to Kennesaw State and they play some really good football. They're very, very talented team and one of those teams that, although it hasn't been the greatest year in the world, this is one that makes you feel a lot better. 25 and a half point underdogs coming into this game. It's a program defining win. It makes you feel so much better about where you are going for it. Officially knocked Liberty out of the CFP. Frankly, I thought they were knocked out once that App State game got canceled early on in the year because I don't think 11 and though it was going to get them in. But at the end of the day, it was a huge moment for that program and could be a huge launching point. You know, there are a lot of recruits that were watching that game saying this Kennesaw State team looks a little bit fun to play for. So it's definitely one of those moments that you badly need as you head up into the FPS ranks and they got at a huge moment when everyone was watching them against a team that everyone thought was just going to walk through their schedule. So a huge moment for Kennesaw State cannot be happier for the Owls and Brian Bohannon and hopefully this continues on and they can become a real big time FPS program over the next little bit. But then we got to get into this one because did not go the way that I thought it was going to go. I can say that pretty confidently Syracuse out game pit by almost 200 yards. They were better on third down. They one time a possession by 23 minutes holding the ball by for almost 40 minutes of this game and they lost by 28 points. It was absolutely incredible to watch this one unfold. The thing is when you throw five picks and three of them are taking back to the house, you only have six rushing yards. You're not going to win a lot of games. You'll find that throughout college football. That is a tough formula to find a way to get a win in. It's exactly the type of night that Kyle McCord and Syracuse had. It was absolutely nightmare from start to finish. Even one of the picks was bad at the round, looked like it was going up into space and then fell just right into Brandon George's hand. So I don't know what you do there. I think it was just one of those nights for Kyle McCord. He could not catch a break. In fact, I believe he's the first ACC quarterback since 2016 to throw for 300 yards, which was a Syracuse record has thrown for 300 yards in seven straight games. It was one of those like Chris Paul cutting. They lead to 42 with a three. One of those type of means, but at the end of the day did break that record. Got over to 300 yards, but was the first guy in ACC history to have 300 yards and five picks in a game since Daniel Jones in 2016. So shout out to Cool Cube for that stat, but very, very weird game that I did not see going this way. I thought it was going to be a little bit of an offensive shootout. They go after each other a little bit, but pit stays undefeated. Syracuse officially out of the ACC race pit heads to Dallas with a huge date with SMU this upcoming weekend. It's going to be a huge game and frankly could be a playing game for the CFP, but obviously time will tell on that one. Huge win for pit, which was led by the defense. Not something that they've been accustomed to this year, but obviously one that they're very, very happy to see. Then getting into the Saturday games, Maryland, Minnesota is a very, very interesting game in my eyes because it's two teams that were a big part of burying USC season and causing quite a bit of trouble down there in Southern California. But overall, Maryland was able to do it in kind of dramatic fashion coming back in the last second, while Minnesota also kind of did it in dramatic fashion to be totally fair, only winning by three points at home. But this Maryland defense has been just terrible, giving up the past 288 yards per game through the air. Maybe this is Max Brosner's big game. Maybe it's the moment that he really kind of stamped himself in Minnesota. I don't want to say history, but on this year for Minnesota, and really proves the point, does incredible things now on the other side for Maryland, they love to throw the ball almost 60% of the time they are going to throw the football. And the problem is they're throwing into the teeth of a top five defense or past defense in the entire country for Minnesota. So I don't think the openings are going to be there. Give me Minnesota and we'll talk about that actually a little bit later on best bet. So incredible one there, but then awesome one down there in the Mac because I'm not down there up there in the Mac because this one's going to be absolutely so much fun between Bowling Green Toledo Toledo favor by a little bit under a field goal in this one. And both these teams sit at what is an absolute mess at two and one in the Mac right now, I believe like six or 17 sitting at two and one right now. So we'll get quite a few answers this upcoming weekend, but on the Bowling Green side, you have one of the best quarterback running back past catcher Shrios of the entire group of five and maybe even the entire country, but I won't go too too far in that direction. Connor Basilak, Terry, excuse me, Terry and Stuart, as well as Harold Van in Jr. are capable of doming pretty much anyone in the entire country and is really, really good. And one of those offenses that is just so hard to get a beat on. So that's what Toledo is going to have to deal with. And then for Toledo, they have a special pair of wide receivers, Andrew Juan Newton and Junior Vangros, these guys are making play after play. They combined for a thousand yards on this year and they only have about 1500 passing yards. So they are a lot of that offense, no doubt about that. They are now catching passes from John Allen rector after he took over for Tucker Gleason when he went down with the injury and the Buffalo Law. So definitely something to watch there. I think I would lean Bowling Green in this game. I think they have a little bit of juice to them. I think Harold Van is going to be able to make enough plays down the stretch of this game, although Toledo has a lot going for them. Don't love that they have that backup quarterback that did not play all that great last week. I think Bowling Green gets a big time win and stays in the hunt for the Mac in this one. Then you got Oregon State Cal, the back 12 still lives. We are still getting some of these games on the schedule and got very excited when I saw it on the schedule. So I just had to talk about it really quickly, but it's going to be really awesome for a number of reasons. But the biggest one is we're going to see a lot of good on good for these teams. Cal has a pass first team, averages almost 250 yards per game. Oregon State 13 best pass defense in the country, only allowing 166 per game. So Cam Fernando Mendoza and this pass offense find the openings that they're going to need. And then on the other side, Giovanni McCoy in this Oregon State offense loves to run the ball. Seven best rush offense in the entire country. Cal only gives up a little bit over 100 yards per game. So who's going to win out in that? It's going to be incredible to watch the good on good. I will take Cal in this one just by a hair. Then being at home makes me feel a little bit better. But maybe Oregon State can slow this one down. Get the run game going with Giovanni McCoy or Giovanni McCoy, excuse me, and get him going in. That's a really, really tough guy to stop once he gets rolling downhill. And then we got the game that we talked about a little bit earlier. A little bit of an overshadowed rivalry here because this is one of those games that pretty much every single year. You feel like you're always locked in on regardless of what the slate is. This one kind of snuck under the cracks for this upcoming weekend. Obviously not for the people up in Michigan. But at the end of the day, I do think this is going to be a really interesting game. And it's going to be fascinating to watch this one unfold. Ain Childs kind of had his moment in the second half of last week's game against Iowa, leading them to a 32-20 lead. He's a very, very talented player. He's got to play more consistently. So could this be the game where he falls back down to Earth? Or could this be the game where he really just continues on, this incredible run that he's been on? And maybe puts his flag in this Michigan State job. Because frankly, he wins this one. He becomes a, I don't want to say Spartan legend, but a fan favorite that he already is to a certain extent, but much more of a fan favorite than he already is. He will be absolutely beloved around that place. And I can promise, we'll not have to buy a drink in that place on Saturday. I can say that pretty confidently. But then for Michigan, they just badly need to find something. They badly need to find something that will give them any type of juice. Now there are facing a run defense that is kind of middle of the road, and maybe their offense can just lean on them and get a win here. But overall, I think the numbers favor Michigan quite a bit. I like Michigan State. I'm going to go with the vibes of Michigan State right now. I think they have a little bit of energy about them. I think Aiden child is starting to play a little bit better at football. I think they're going to be able to get it done. I just think these two teams are in two totally different places mentally. And then we got an interesting one down there in the SEC. These are two teams that are effectively out of the SEC race, but both head coaches are kind of looking for interesting wins, because I don't think either coach are in danger of getting fired this off season. I do think they're in danger of going into 2025 with a very, very tight leash. And I think that's something to watch as we head into the rest of this because Auburn and Kentucky just badly need as many wins as they can possibly get. I think both the Kentucky run and pass defense have been absolutely incredible. The thing about Auburn is they've been good about moving the ball. I believe I saw a stat earlier that they are one of the very few teams that averages 6.5 yards per play on offense and only allows less than five yards on defense. They're the only team with a losing record by a margin. I believe everyone else on that in that grouping, excuse me, in that grouping is 36 and four overall, they're two and five. It's all turnovers. Now, Kentucky is not great at getting away turnovers. So maybe Auburn can get something going offensively, but at the end of the day, getting things going offensively against that Kentucky defense is like pulling teeth. So we'll see what happens in this one, whoever wins it, at the very least can just breathe a sigh of relief for the time being. And then we got a really, really interesting one in the Mountain West that's getting a little bit overshadowed by the game that's going on tonight, and to be fair, it probably should. I'm not necessarily arguing that, but this is a game that's going to be a huge matchup and to find the conference moving forward in so many different ways because San Jose State, they get a win here. The power is in their hands. They still have Boise State. They still have UNLV on that schedule. They win those two games. They could be the CFP team going in. I know they're a team that we haven't necessarily talked about too, too much, but they absolutely could make a little bit of a run here for Fresno State. They've probably already fallen out of the CFP race, but only one loss in conference and our favorite here, they could win out and ruin a lot of the fun in the Mountain West over there and possibly ruin the fun for Boise State and UNLV down the stretch, but this is a very interesting game. I want to lean San Jose State just to add a little bit of chaos into that Mountain West. I want to lean San Jose State here. I think Fresno State might get it done, but I'll go with San Jose State just for the time being, just for the chaos aspect of it. I will go with the Trojans, but it's going to be so much fun to watch that one unfold and really all over the place this weekend. You have those marquee matchups and those are going to be incredible. I'm definitely going to be fully tuned into those, but there's so many really, really fun games all around the country, so many fun players like Harold Fanon. If you have not watched him up at Bowling Green yet, do yourself a favor. He is so much fun to watch an absolutely dominating guy and, in my opinion, the very best tight end in the entire country. So, incredible, incredible games all over the place, but let's take our third break here. When we come back, we got to talk about my best bets as we head into this weekend with a clean 500 last week, so still above 500 on the year, but going to be an incredible weekend this upcoming weekend, I've found a couple of bets that I like, so I'll break them down right after this. Raise your hand if you feel really represented in our Colorado State Legislature. Yeah, that's what I thought. Hey, it's Ross, and I have no confidence that the people under the Golden Dome are routinely doing what's best for me and you, for our families and neighbors and friends and colleagues, because our system for choosing and electing candidates isn't functioning to benefit us, it's functioning to benefit the system, but there's something we can do about it, and it's called Proposition 131. We just talked about some of the different games we have now had a chance to get to throughout this week, but also a couple of games that already happened. Kennesaw Steak gets that historic win over Liberty, and then we had a pit just stave off that keep alive, that undefeated season that Syracuse was very much trying to knock off. Well, they didn't even get close. That defense for a pit just absolutely dominated the day and they continue on their way. But getting into my best bets for this upcoming weekend, there were quite a few that I liked on the board this week, but there were some that I felt very, very convicted about. And some of them that I'm a little bit nervous about, I'll be honest, but I just had a feeling in my gut and I'm going to roll with it for this one. We are still above 529, 23 and two on the season, four and four last week, so when at even 500, hopefully we can get on the right side of things this upcoming weekend. But Indiana, Washington, I like the under in this game. I think this is going to be one of those games. It's very, very interesting. You had Washington had been a really good defensive team, and then somehow they played Iowa and they got beat up. They know an Iowa team that hadn't scored 40 points since the Eisenhower administration somehow was able to get one done, but I still think they're a very solid defense. I still think they have guys that can come off the edge and make some big time plays, like Zach Derphy as you see there. I think they have a number of guys that can make some big plays on the back end of that defense and especially on the other side. You don't have Curtis work in this game. I do think Dave and Jackson is going to be more than fine. I think he's going to be able to play winnable football for this team. I don't necessarily think it's crazy to think that there's going to be a couple of mistakes here and there. A couple of turnovers that kind of slow this game down, maybe a red zone turnover that totally takes points off the board when you felt like you were at least going to be able to get three. And on top of that, I do think they're going to lean on Justice Ellison on Tyson Lawton and then just hope that they are able to kind of gut out of win here. From Washington, I think they need a reset. I think they want to throw the ball in this game. The Indiana pass defense has just been too great this year. I think they're going to try to lean on them, try to run the ball with Jonah Coleman and live with the results. And it's going to be really interesting, but I think this one goes comfortably under. I think both these defenses are going to come ready to play, especially Indiana knowing they have to come ready to play in Washington with a little bit of chip on that shoulder. I think this game goes under 53.5 by a pretty comfortable margin if I had to imagine. And then Texas, this is a little bit of a sketchy one. I'll be totally honest with you, Texas minus 18.5 at Vanderbilt. I do think they get that done. I think this is a Texas team that got absolutely punched in the mouth last week. And there are a lot of people questioning just what this team is and I'm kind of in that group. You never really know what they are because Michigan has proven not necessarily to be the greatest team in the world. Oklahoma has proven to not be the greatest team in the world. You're going to have to prove at some point that you can play with the big dogs. And frankly, I don't think this weekend is going to do that for you, but at the end of the day, it is going to prove a point that you are not a team that's going to get knocked down and stay there. Because there have been teams in the past and you will see teams probably this weekend that got knocked down last weekend, lose this weekend or effectively out of the CFP race. I don't see that happening here. I think Vanderbilt really benefited from some of the holes that were in that BAM at defense. I don't think there are nearly as many holes in this Texas defense. On the other side, it was one of the worst games that I've seen from Quinn Euer since his freshman year. Plain and simple. He did not play good football particularly in the first half, but he has proven enough to me for me to feel confident in his mental toughness to bounce back in this point, get a big time win, play really, really good football and honestly kind of put on the show and get this Texas train back on the track. So I like Texas. I like Texas big. I think they prove a point and show that last week, although it was really, really ugly and there's still questions around this team was a little bit more of a blip than anything else for this season. Another one that is the slightest bit sketchy because about everyone in the entire college football world has put Wisconsin on upset alert this upcoming weekend. As did I earlier this week and I stand by it. It is a very, very interesting game. It's one of those where you're looking forward possibly to that Ohio state game. The thing about it is, I think we're talking a lot of great things about Wisconsin and I do think they found something offensively. The thing is they found it against Purdue Rutgers in Northwestern. You were no longer playing Purdue Rutgers in Northwestern. You are now playing Penn State and frankly, if Wisconsin can't get Toby Walker going in this game, I think it's going to be one of the longest days offensively they've had in a long time. I think it's one of those things that is just a prerequisite. If they're going to be able to play really good offense, Toby Walker needs to be running the football. You got a top 10 run defense on the other side. I don't think he's going to be able to get things going and then if you're putting the game in Brayden locks hands, mistakes are going to come. That's just the reality of facing a defense this good with a quarterback that's not quite as experienced as you would like and then on the other side. I think the big thing here is I think Wisconsin can be attacked through the air. They are top 10 in the country in past defense but they gave up 300 yards to Miller Moss. I think they can absolutely give up Drew Aller. I don't want to say 300 yards but I think Drew Aller can get plenty. I think he can definitely get his and I think Penn State wins by at least a touchdown. I think it could be 14. It could be 21 and you head into that Ohio state game feeling very, very confident about where you are. And then for Illinois Oregon, I do think we're going to see some points in this one. I have the over for 54 and a half in this one and this is a game where I feel like it's kind of being overlooked and everyone's just picking Oregon to win and I'm picking Oregon to win. I'm not necessarily saying I'm not but this Illinois team is more than capable of making this one just a little bit interesting. I think both defenses are capable. The Oregon defense obviously has shown that they are very capable. It doesn't change that they've been able to get beat downfield just a couple of times this year and I think Illinois has the dudes to do it. I think a lot of people look at Pat Bryan and Zachariah Franklin and say well they're Illinois. They're not necessarily the elite players that you need. I think Pat Bryan could play on Oregon. He's a very, very good player and NFL receiver and one of those guys that I think he's going to go up and get a couple of these big time plays throughout this game and then on the other side Oregon at this point offensively. I think they could score 30, 35 points a game just the rest of the way. He is there an absolute monster to deal with and if they can get that deep ball going the way they have the last couple of weeks it's going to be a nightmare to deal with. So I do think this game has quite a few points. I don't think Illinois is going to be able to win this one but I think they're going to be able to make enough plays through the air. Pat Bryan to Zachariah Franklin and just at least keep this one respectable. I think Oregon wins pretty comfortably but at the end of the day I do think there's quite a few points here and we hit that over 54 and a half for sure. Then we get another game that I went in the Upset Alert. In fact I kind of went to the Upset Alert quite a bit in this segment which makes me feel a little bit nervous but at the end of the day Tulane minus eight and a half at North Texas is a very very interesting one because North Texas can score. They can do just about everything they wanted to do especially in the past game. They are I think top five in the country in the past game this year maybe even number two. The thing is North Texas can't stop molasses in winter right now. They can't do anything defensively. They are going to be able to be run all over in this game and I think the biggest thing is Tulane has a rushing offense that is going up against the hundredth ranked rush defense in the country. They are absolutely elite at that running back position. It could just be Tulane just slows this game down a little bit absolutely grinds it out ends up winning by 14 points. It's not the prettiest thing in the world but they ended up just running the ball. They took care of business handled everything they needed to handle and continue moving on and I think North Texas even one pick in this game could totally bury you. So I am going to go Tulane in this one. I feel pretty confident that they're going to be able to cover that eight. Although it's one of those sketchy numbers out there. I am going to go Tulane to be able to handle it. They are forcing quite a few turnovers almost 2.2 per game. So I think they're going to be able to get one in this thing just changes on a dime if I'm being honest. And then we got Arkansas Mississippi State yet another game that I put in my upset alert but at least I'm not picking anyone in this game. I do think there's going to be a really strange one in Stark Vegas. It's going to be one of those games where you're kind of in a weird spot with both these teams. They're out of the SEC race which we likely expected them to be but they also have some pretty electric quarterbacks that have had some great moments throughout this year. And they have some defenses that can get got throughout this year. So Arkansas obviously the better defense of the bunch coming off a tough loss to LSU. But at the end of the day the Mississippi's offense has been really really good at being able to just find the holes in defenses. It hasn't been necessarily all that pretty hasn't been necessarily super consistent or putting up crazy numbers every single game. It has been enough. You score on the road 31 points against UGA. You come back home score 24 against A&M. That's going to be plenty in this game and it's going to be able to put you in a position to possibly win it. And frankly, you're not facing Georgia. You're not facing A&M. You're facing a defense that is much more attackable than those two defenses. So I wouldn't necessarily be overly worried. I think it's one of those games where Tailing Green puts on quite a show against the Mississippi State defense that frankly can't stop much of anything right now. So I think it's going to be really really fun one to watch in. I think it's just one of those games where neither of these defenses are going to be able to handle the dual threat nature of these two quarterbacks. In Minnesota, I love them in this game. We broke it down a little bit earlier, but Minnesota minus four against Maryland. I think this Maryland team got a little bit of an over correction after that comeback win over USC. I think a lot of people thought, you know, this is a launching off point. They're going to carry all of that over to Minnesota. The thing about Minnesota is they are very, very good at just punching you in the teeth and kind of bringing you back down to earth. Whether that's in the run game or finding some of these receivers over the middle of the field, whatever it is, they're very, very good at you coming to their stadium. You're immediately playing their football. That's just the way that things go. And I think for this Maryland, the defensive approach, you can do just about anything you want to. It plays perfectly into what Minnesota does defensively. If you want to throw the ball, cool. Minnesota has a top five past defense in the entire country. For Minnesota on offense, Max Brosmer, he's more than capable of pushing the ball down field. Maryland can't stop anything through the air. So it's one of those games where I think that just the line is just wrong. I think Minnesota is going to be able to win this one. I think they win it rather comfortably. And I think Maryland's one of those teams that got a huge win last weekend. That's probably where the magic comes to an end. And then this is the one that I'm probably the most worried about. I'll be on a Cincinnati. I do have plus five against Colorado. This one just feels wrong. Betting against Colorado right now in general just feels wrong because of how well that they are playing. The thing that I'm banking on in this game is Cincinnati just making it look really ugly. Making this one be an absolute just muck-fasted gate goes back and forth. It's not pretty at all. But at the end of the day, they're able to get it done. And I think one of the biggest ones here is they're able to dial up blitzes very, very well. They have three linebackers on their roster that have at least over one sack on this year. And then they have a Jared Bartlett leading the way with four sacks on the year. They're going to be able to create havoc up front and not just from that four defensive linemen. From those linebackers coming off the edge, coming up the middle, it's going to be really hard for Federal Sanders to really get a good rhythm in this game. I think this one could just get a little bit ugly. And then this defense has been solid at getting takeaways. But when you have Deontay Corleone up front, you got no run game to worry about. He's going to be able to eat them for dinner on the offensive line. I think he's going to be able to stop that run pretty, pretty effectively, which means they can sit back in coverage and just tackle. That's really all you have to do in this game. And play a little bit of Ben Dome break against that Colorado offense. And then in the red zone, just be able to make those couple of stops. So I like Cincinnati in this game. I don't necessarily love them to win the game. I think it's going to be really close though. And I think Cincinnati has plenty in the tank to make this one at least a little bit interesting. And a little bit gross for Colorado. If Colorado is able to win, you know, a 20 to 17 game or something really ugly like that, a ton of respect for me. But I think it's going to be a lot of fun about that because it's one of those games where you get down to the mud. Could be where Colorado kind of struggles, but they've proven quite a bit this upcoming season and they're going to have to prove or this. This season in general, they proved quite a bit and they're going to have to prove quite a bit this upcoming weekend. But we'll break it all down after and on Monday, of course, but let's take our last break here. And when we come back, we just got a couple of headline updates, a couple of injury updates that I want to get on y'all's radar. And one of the bigger ones is Grayson McCall retiring from football. We'll break it down and how incredible his career was right after this. So stick with us. Raise your hand if you feel really represented in our Colorado state legislature. Yeah, that's what I thought. Hey, it's Ross and I have no confidence that the people under the Golden Dome are routinely doing what's best for me and you for our families and neighbors and friends and colleagues because our system for choosing and electing candidates isn't functioning to benefit us. It's functioning to benefit the system, but there's something we can do about it and it's called Proposition 131. Prop 131 will let all voters choose among all candidates regardless of party for the state legislature, Congress and most statewide races except president with the top four going on to the general election. It gives us more options as voters and importantly, it keeps party bosses from sticking us with bad options. And as someone who wants to have true choices, I have to say that I'm even more confident in my support for Prop 131 knowing that the party bosses on both sides don't like it. It takes power away from them, gives it to you and me where it belongs. For a better government, vote yes on Prop 131. Pay for by yes on 131, own cloth registered agent. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Alrighty, welcome back everyone. We just talked about my best bets as we head into this weekend. Definitely some that are a little bit sketchy. I'm kind of going with my gut just a little bit more this upcoming weekend. And if it goes poorly then I will go all the way away from my gut next weekend. But at the end of the day let's get into a couple of just weekend wrap-up stuff. A couple of headlines I want to get on y'all's radar and then a couple of injury updates from all around the game this upcoming weekend. And we'll start with Grayson McCall. He is retiring from the sport of football. If you saw that hit that he suffered in that Wake Forest game, it is not all that surprising. It was a very very scary hit. One of the scarier ones that I have seen in all of my years watching college football. And he released a statement with his family, said I battle injuries my whole career but this is one I cannot come back from. Brain specialist my family and I have come to the conclusion it's my best interest to hang up the cleats and I fully agree with them. It was very very scary to watch that unfold. I think everyone's first thought was man I hope that kids okay. Everyone's second thought was probably the last time he puts on a football helmet and you hate to see him go was a remarkable player throughout his time at Coastal Carolina. And then when he made his way over to NC State at Coastal Carolina 12th excuse me 10,005 yards 88 touchdowns over 44 games for Coastal Carolina was incredible in that 2020 2020 COVID season had that incredible game against BYU. That was felt like a high school game the way that it was scheduled but he was absolutely incredible to watch didn't necessarily have the year that he wanted that NC State by any means but was still a big time part of that team. I'm sure from a leadership perspective and now he heads on to his next chapter and it sounds like the next chapter is going to be coaching whatever capacity that looks like in. I don't know but a very special player a career that I think a lot of us will remember for quite some time and we'll be telling our kids in 20 years saying you know this grace and McCall kid you're going to want to watch a couple of those tapes because it was really really fun to watch this kid play especially Coastal Carolina it was it was a special thing to watch so his next step into coaching I hope he does incredible amounts of success he's a very very small football player so I have very little doubts that he's going to be very successful and he will be in that industry for a very long time but obviously you hate it whenever a career like this especially has to get cut a little bit short but obviously in the best interest for him and his family and now he gets to move forward to his next chapter and I think he's going to be incredibly successful in that absolutely love to see him sticking around college football and can't wait to see where he ends up whether that's Coastal Carolina or NC State or anywhere else in the country I think he's going to be a huge success so hate to see him go a little bit earlier than we were hoping but obviously best thing for his health and whatever he does next I'm sure he's going to be plenty successful in that and then we move forward to the Pac-12 because they had a very interesting announcement earlier in the year that a lot of people were mad about but it sounds like Oregon State and Washington State will play each other twice in 2025 they're going to play a little bit of a home and home on that season and it's the last season that they have kind of on their by their lonesome all the way out there in the Pacific Northwest it's the first game will be on November 1st at Oregon State then Washington State will host on November 29th at the end of the year so I think this is really cool I understand why people are not too big of fans of it I understand why this is something that they're not necessarily loving I think it's kind of cool it's two teams that are out there kind of on their own their pseudo independent teams they're not going to get into the playoff as we've seen this year we had that incredible run from Washington State to start the year it's rarely going to get to the point where they make the CFP regardless I think there's a fun little wrinkle into the season it'll give you a fun idea of just how much home field advantage matters and I can promise you a sweep in those two games would give you just crazy bragging rights moving forward so I understand why people don't necessarily love it I totally get that I'm kind of into the idea just because it's their last season out there let them have some fun that's kind of my stance on the whole thing I'll be totally honest but then we move over to the SEC and weirdly we move over to the SEC and I show you Vince Young but the reality is Vince Young along with a couple other people have been added to the SEC Legends class of 2024 I don't know how I last I checked Vince Young did not play in the SEC but at the end of the day he is not alone in the people that have been added to this thing that did not sniff the SEC Barry Spitzer is in this class and he coached for he was an incredible coach for Oklahoma from 1973 to 1988 they were not in the SEC during that time and then you got Chase Daniel he's making his way in from the Missouri quarterback incredible quarterback He's been a number of years from 2005 to 2008 they were not in the SEC in 2005 and 2008 and then you got Jake Jockel a guy that or Luke Jockel excuse me a guy that got drafted number one overall very talented offensive lineman at A&M he played in 2011 when they were not in the SEC so I don't understand what we're doing here Absolutely ridiculous you do not need to give these teams spots in a in the Legends class when they have not played in that conference just wait you have more than enough people with Johnny Manziel for A&M put him in you have a number of people for Missouri you have people that you can put in from that group and then for Texas though you just wait a little bit maybe Steve Sarkeesian can join that group in ten years maybe you know who knows maybe Brent Venables can join that group in a couple of years it's one of those things that I don't understand why they're trying to force this it just makes this little goofy and not a real thing so I didn't love it by any means I don't think anyone really loved it it felt very very weird very forced in one of those things that a lot of these programs are probably don't really much care about being totally honest but I guess if you can get him into that legend status you'll take it but a very very weird thing a thing that I do not like at all and a thing that I can't even fathom how they came to that decision but at the end of the day congratulations to Vince Young to Barry Spitzer to Chase Daniel and to Luke Jockel because you are SEC legend somehow so your legends of two different conferences congratulations but moving forward to some injury updates for this upcoming weekend because there's quite a few well start with that Texas Vanderbilt game it does sound like Isaiah Bond is not going to go in this game he was questionable going into that Georgia game felt like he was going to be able to be a full go didn't play for the vast majority of that game probably played much less snaps than he usually plays I bet 80% less snaps than he usually plays and then on the back end Derek Williams is still doubtful a very talented starting safety probably going to be a couple of weeks before we see him again but definitely one that they're hoping to get back as quickly as possible for Vanderbilt the big news is Miles capers and Cedric Alexander sounds like they were going to play they have been updated upgraded from questionable to probable for this game capers they badly need very very good edge rusher and someone that they're very badly going to need in this game Eli Stowers is another guy to watch sounds like he's going to be good to go as well so Vanderbilt with all the questions in midweek a lot of those have been subsided throughout the week so no worries there if you're a Vanderbilt fan moving on to Navy Notre Dame not necessarily a ton of updates here the biggest one is Mitch Jeter the starting a court starting kicker for a Notre Dame is going to be at or might be out in this game he's still a little bit up in the air definitely something to watch he was out for that Georgia Tech game last week and Zach yokem the guy that came in for him one for two on field goals on that day so you probably want your guy back especially if you're going to be in that close game laid down the stretch if you miss a kick with a backup quarterback it's going to sting a little bit worse but at the end of the day we'll see what happens there if he plays then could be a huge impact could be no impact but we'll find out on Saturday then moving over to Missouri Alabama this one that for Alabama they avoided a little bit of they dodged a bullet on the back end of that defense cuz Keon Saab the starting a safety sounds like he's going to be out for an extended period of time hate to see it lower body injury been a very very talented player for that back end being said it sounds like Zabian Brown, Devonta Smith and Red Morgan will be good to go in that back end because there was a world where not all of those guys were ready to go and you have a very very interesting back end going into a game where you gotta face Luther Burton and Theo Whis and Mookie Cooper so definitely something to watch now on the other side it's a lot worse for Missouri at best Brady Cook and Nate Noel are doubtful for this game it was reported earlier in the week that Nate Noel wouldn't go by Pete Thamel then other sources closer to the Missouri program said it hasn't been decided yet I wouldn't expect him to see it to be out there and then Mookie Cooper is still questionable for this game I expect him to play but we'll see how close to 100% is I can tell you pretty confidently that Missouri was not planning to trot out there with Drew Pine as their quarterback but that might just be the way that they have to go about business on Saturday and then the big time one at night we have a couple of different updates here for LSU CJ Daniels is good to go and that's something that you're probably gonna watch pretty much week over week for the LSU just to make sure that he's ready to go but it sounds like he's getting back up to speed he should be fine the rest of the way and barring some additional injury obviously but a very talented guy that they very much need in that lineup Kaden Durham also probable for this game very badly need him in the running back position no doubt about that Chris Hillman continues to be questionable I don't think he's gonna play in this game it's one of those things that I've kind of stopped holding out hope that he is going to play in some of these games so I do think he's probably out but the wide receiver room just continues to get that little bit more healthy for A&M The one big thing here is Chase Bassantas the starting offensive lineman for A&M is going to be out for this game and possibly out for a little bit of time but we'll update you as it goes on could be a huge difference in this game LSU just needs a couple openings on that offensive line and things should happen in a hurry and maybe losing Bassantas is just enough but then we got some other notes all around the country for Oregon they've hit got hit with a little bit of an injury bug right now Jordan Birch as well as Terrence Ferguson they're starting tight end Matthew Bedford further starting a lineman are in kind of a wait and see approach it seems going into this upcoming weekend I'd be a little bit surprised if they play I'll be honest I think Oregon feels good enough about where they are in this game and where they can be going into this game that I don't think they're gonna play but obviously we'll come down to what happens on Saturday we will see there and definitely could be a difference in this game I just tend to believe that Oregon can get it done even without these guys then over in Columbus Ohio their left tackle is out for the year Josh Simmons definitely a very very tough loss for this team Zen McCalsky will take over at that left tackle position and he's gonna have to play really good football he is a red shirt junior so has played plenty of football in the past but definitely going to be something to watch because this offensive line it felt like it was starting to roll downhill losing Josh Simmons definitely does hurt that quite a bit and then Lathan Ransom the very talented safety he's day to day right now I'd be surprised if he played this weekend just because of the opponent but who knows at the end of the day he very well could be out there and he's one of those guys that you're gonna have to pretty much drag off the field if you don't want him to play but on the other side for Nebraska Amir Johnson will be out for this game a huge blow for a team that very badly needs to slow things down Gabe Irving is gonna have a lot on his table this upcoming weekend and does sound like the Sean Singleton and Nash Huttmayer or Huttmacher will be ready to go which is absolutely huge for that defense they badly need especially Huttmacher a very very talented player on the interior that defensive line you badly need him in this game so a couple of good news one really bad news for Nebraska on this front and then he got Travis Hunter he is going to be good to go in that Cincinnati game he's gonna be watching just how much he plays how they allocate his snaps frankly I think they should play him a little bit more on defense and then take him off on offense but at the end of the day I'm not Dion Sanders I do not know more about football than Dion Sanders so whatever decision he makes I'm sure is the right one to go with and it'll be interesting to watch this one unfold really throughout the next couple of weeks not just on Saturday and then another big time story from the world of college football Colin Lacey a very talented wide receiver that transferred South Alabama to Louisville he is going to utilize his red shirt and be out for the rest of the year very confused what the situation is there I don't know if it's you know a little bit more of that NIL type stuff I don't know if it's playing time I don't know if it's injury it sounds like it's injury it sounds like he does have something lingering around that is just kind of impeding him from playing the best football that he can so if that's it I'm more than fine with that It would be interesting to see if he does return to Louisville this upcoming season and maybe that gives us a better idea of what was really happening behind the scenes there but definitely a development for them this upcoming weekend or tonight against Boston college and we'll see what happens there but Colin Lacey officially out for the season in Louisville would just have to make do with your Corey Brooks and Chris Bell and a couple of the other guys they have back there so going to be really interesting to watch this unfold and overall we can just have something about it I there's something in my soul that makes me think that this is going to be a little bit of a while a little bit off the walls weekend where we get a couple of answers and you badly need him at this point in the season because we're getting to a point where I'm getting nervous that we're not going to have any answers by the time you get to the selection Sunday so I think we'll get a couple of this upcoming weekend and we will break them all down on Monday but that'll do it for this edition of the GSMC college football podcast brought to you on the SMC sports network your support means a lot to us so please remember to subscribe to the
